The Theme Of Dreams In The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge
Within the films The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge the theme of dreams is consistently present. Baz
Lurhmann who directed both films used numerous filmic techniques to convey the influence of
dreams. A dream is an aspiration and fantasy that one deeply desires to attain. Dreams go hand in hand
with ambition and thus drive the characters actions. However, in my opinion, dreams may take on an
idealistic and delusional nature and thus act as unattainable and unrealistic entities. Thus this essay
will focus on the unrealistic nature of the characters ambitions and the consequent failures of their
dreams. For the purpose of this essay I will be discussing different scenes within the films and the
numerous filmic techniques used that explore the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It inhabits Gatsby s dream of unbounded wealth and attempts to allure Daisy from across the river.
Image two shows an establishing shot of Gatsby s house that introduces this vibrant, vast and
extravagant lifestyle led by this rich demographic. It shows this kaleidoscopic carnival of people from
every walk of life and every corner of New York City descending upon Gatsby s house. The house
welcomes everyone with all its windows lit up and the flamboyant towering fountains shooting into
the air. In the establishing shot one can see behind Gatsby s house the dark and neglected Valley of
Ashes on the left hand side and on the right hand side the excessively lit East Egg. This technique is
used in order to convey this looming idea that The American Dream does not benefit everybody and is
essentially a failure for the vast majority of people. The scene experiences a quick transition
introducing an eye level long shot of swerving cars and frenzied party guests. The audience s senses
are assaulted by the disorientating sound of trumpets and car horns, giving momentum and a pulsing
beat, which invigorates the audience. Lurhmann uses numerous zooming techniques as a way to
immerse the audience in the raucous and recklessness of the drunken partygoers. Nick is swept into
the entrance hall that is filled with people and

Compare And Contrast The Pantheon In Athens And The Parthenon
Two Ancient Monuments
Two of the ancient world s best examples of architecture, which still exist today, are the Pantheon in
Athens, and the Parthenon in Rome. Both of these monuments are more than just classical temples,
they are symbols of the great civilizations of the past which constructed them. Achievements which
have stood the test of time, despite the fact they have been stripped of their former glory.
First of all let s consider the older of the two, the Parthenon. The Parthenon stands on the top of the
Acropolis, a rocky outcrop in the center of Athens, Greece. Work began on the temple complex shortly
after the war with Persia ended, from 447 to 432 BCE. The funds to finance the building of this grand
monument came from the surplus of the war treasury of the Delian League, an alliance of city states
created for the sake of defence against the Persians. The Acropolis had suffered greatly in the war
when the Persians invaded Athens in 480 BCE, looting and destroying the temples. Yet the building of
the Parthenon was more than just a restoration of lost temples, it was a statement, a ... Show more

The largest dome ever made when constructed, it is still considered the largest unreinforced concrete
structure of its kind. The dome of the Pantheon is what makes this building so unique. The rotunda
measures 43.3 meters in diameter, which is the exact height from the floor to the oculus, open
skylight, which means it is a perfect hemisphere. A 43.3 meter diameter sphere would fit perfectly
under the dome. The dome is made of pumice mixed with concrete, a process which was lost with the
fall of the Roman Empire and only now starting to be understood. The thickness of the dome tapers
from 6.4 meters at the base to 1.2 meters around the oculus. The weight of the dome was reduced by
forming five rings of 28 coffers, recessed panels, into the interior

World Trade Center Expansion
The World Trade Center stood to be built as a reflection of peace with a fierce ambition and
disciplined achievement on a massive scale. The statement of these buildings was to construct an
uplifting stamina of downtown Manhattan. Its purpose created both a negative and positive aspect in
its construction to help those in need of it, but it also caused some damage in its creation. Its massive
scale as buildings allowed the people of New York City to see it as a symbol of expansion in that
particular area of Downtown Manhattan from it reign being the peace towers to the construction of the
Freedom tower. The reasons as to why the Twin Towers was an expansion for downtown Manhattan it

Key West Ehrenreich Character Analysis
According to Ehrenreich, no job is truly unskilled ( Ehrenreich 194). Ehrenreich s three proudest
moments included finishing her tasks fast enough to help others. the breakthrough at Wal Mart where
she believed she could make $7.75 if she kept quiet, and specifically the day at Woodcrest. Ehrenreich
claimed it was a moment I ll bask for the rest of my life where she fed the locked Alzheimer s ward all
by herself, all while receiving smiles from others (Ehrenreich 194). Ehrenreich was proud of her
physical ability because of her endurance. She argued that in a time period well into my fifties I never

the amounts they were earning twenty seven years ago Ehrenreich 203). Specifically, the poorest
workers are the ones who have made the least amount of progress. Workers do not quit because at a
new job, you have to start all over, clueless and friendless (Ehrenreich 205). Low wage workers are
also restrained by their immobility. Most of them rely on someone driving them to work or having to

Hinduism and the God Shiva Essay
Hinduism is a religious tradition compromising of the beliefs and practices of Hindus. The majority of
Hindus choose a personal deity who they feel a personal connection with. One can show devotion of a
deity in many ways including prayer, ceremonial worship, chanting and even visiting a site sacred to
that deity. For my art project I wanted to choose a deity that I could personally connect with, I chose
the Hindu deity Shiva. Some of Shiva s characteristics are devotion, self confidence as a motivating
force, selfless service, and achieving balance on all levels. These are all characteristics and values that
I find important. I would especially like to work on the ability to balance the mind, body and spirit,

regulate these through ayurvedic cooking. Shiva is also the God of Yogis, a practice of mind, body and
consciousness; where life force is regulated by breath, and breath energy is controlled by the mind.
These are all different ways one can show devotion to Shiva and provide a path to religious
understanding.
Shiva is easy, light and graceful, he is self controlled and celibate. At the same time he is lover of
Shakti, goddess of destroying demonic forces and restoring the balance. He was lover to his two
previous wives, Sati and Kali. Shiva s first wife was his beloved Sati. He was married to her against
her father s wishes. Shiva fell in love with her giving nature, her patience and radiant personality.
Meanwhile, her father organized a gathering and invited everyone except Shiva; Sati went uninvited,
and her father humiliated her by insulting her lord. Sati then proceeded to sit on the floor, and with her
mind fixed on Shiva, she controlled her breath which sparked her inner fire until it consumed her.
Shiva was extremely pained by Sati s death and can be seen dancing on his ex father in law who is
responsible for the death of his beloved Sati.

Purpose: The sysnthesis of t Pentyl Chloride from alcohol.
Procedure:
Preparation of t Pentyl Chloride. In a 125 mL separatory funnel, place 10.0 mL of t pentyl alcohol (2
methyl 2 butanol, MW _ 88.2, d _ 0.805 g/mL) and 25 mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid (d _ 1.18
g/mL). Do not stopper the funnel. Gently swirl the mixture in the separatory funnel for about 1
minute. After this period of swirling, stopper the separatory funnel and carefully invert it. Without
shaking the separatory funnel, immediately open the stopcock to release the pressure. Close the
stopcock, shake the funnel several times, and again release the pressure through the stopcock (see

Wash (swirl and shake) the organic layer with one 10 mL portion of water and again drain the lower
aqueous layer. Transfer the organic layer to a small, dry Erlenmeyer flask by pouring it from the top of
the separatory funnel. Dry the crude t pentyl chloride over 1.01 g of anhydrous calcium chloride until
it is clear (see Technique 12, Section 12.9). Swirl the alkyl halide with the drying agent to aid the
drying.
Distillation. Transfer the clear liquid to a dry 25 mL round bottom flask using a Pasteur pipet. Add a
boiling stone and distill the crude t pentyl chloride in a dry apparatus. Collect the pure t pentyl
chloride in a receiver cooled in ice. Collect the material that boils between 78°C and 84°C. Weigh the
product and calculate the percentage yield.
Results

Discussion
First thing we did in this lab was to add HCl to the t pentyl alcohol. We did this because by adding the
HCl, we are creating what we wanted, t pentyl chloride. Then, due to the difference in density, layers
will form. The top layer and less dense is the organic layer, the t pentyl chloride and the bottom layer
is the aqueous layer. The purpose of shaking vigourously is to make sure that the 2 liquids mix
properly, giving us the desired product t pentyl chloride. Then we wash the organic layer with water. T
pentyl chloride is insoluble in water, so it wont be

Hypocrisy In Canterbury s Canterbury Tales
Canterbury Tales is one of the most important pieces of writing from the Medieval times.Having a
major influence of religion to carry the tales out,While giving the reader an idea of how religion
dominated society during the fourteenth century. The narrative of Canterbury Tales are religious, as the
characters are on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. So,throughout the tales there are various evidence of
religious influences, but the two main Religious aspects that are very prominent within the text is
Religious Hypocrisy and Church Corruption. Religious Hypocrisy is when a virtuous person with
moral or religious beliefs or principles, usually in a high religious ranking who does not really possess
those qualities that they claim to have, and usually lives the total opposite way of what they portray to
believe in.There seems to be plenty of Hypocrisy going on in Canterbury tales from majority of the
characters. The old saying practice what you preach,is highly ignored by the Pardoner, who traveled
along the countryside selling official church pardons, which were pieces of paper signed by a bishop
entitling the bearer to forgiveness for their sins. The Pardoner addresses ideas in his sermons such as
greed, selfishness, and other sins.Only to neglect his own teaches and indulge in these sins that he
preaches against. He also is one of those main characters that show us how much Church Corruption
was going on within that time because, at one point he was trying to sell his

Analysis On The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System
The integrated geophysical, remote sensing, isotopic and geochronologic and modelling studies on the
Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System have come up with the following findings and recommendations:
1 Geophysical studies:
Based on the integration of gravity, magnetic, and borehole data the structural trends, uplifts and
sedimentary cover affecting the aquifer behavior have been conducted. The area of the NSAS is
affected by several structural trends in different directions; the most prominent directions are NE SW,
N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and Qattara mega
shears.
The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern Sudan and
southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The sediments thickness shows a
shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift which
may impede the south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas in the
south.
The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues upward in the
sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along its zone, which were filled by
high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin in
Libya and Chad to the northern part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. This zone could provide a preferred
groundwater flow pathway from the Kufra to the Dakhla Basin.

Traditional Families In The 1800s
Families in History
There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several
centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within
a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The
biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth
century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included
as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a
husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging
ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent
homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Childhood was not considered a special time for development but rather a hurdle on the way to
adulthood. The goal was to get children speaking, reading, reasoning, and contributing to their family
s economic well being as quickly as possible. (Mintz 50) Many kids as young as six were working
outside of the home at the time. A cultural revolution began in the eighteenth century when many
middle class parents began to relish in their children s innocence and saw this a time to nurture mold
their children. As this form of parenting became the norm many parents began to have less children by
using birth control, thus giving the fewer children they had more of their attention. As time progressed
kids spent more time going to school rather than to work. Within the last 3 centuries Societal views
about methods of Child rearing, the nature of children s play, the ideal duration of schooling, the
participation of young people in work, and the demarcation points between childhood, adolescence,
and adulthood have shifted significantly. (Mintz

From a young age, building things interested me, so I chose a task in which I constructed a wooden
bridge with a partner. The bridge was to be judged on its weight, correlated with the amount of weight
it could sustain. From the outset we were disadvantaged: we had far less preparation time than others

Kodak Options Memo
In my March 6 memo, I discussed the need for Kodak to revamp its core strategy and regain
popularity. Eastman Kodak has been the leader of photography and printing products for nearly 130
years. Over the last few years Kodak has been in distress due to its poor fundamental shift into the
digital age. Lack of strategic creativity led Kodak to misunderstand the industry in which it was
operating. This lack of strategic creativity was costly for Kodak.
This memo will explore the options I briefly discussed in the previous memo, in order to find a
solution to this problem. Each option will be assessed based on the same criteria. The options to

These profits can be achieved through tracking consumer needs and maintaining efficiency within the
value chain.
The option can revamp its line of attack to surpass current expectations. Though this option has a high
level of risk, if successful, would implement a drastic change to Kodak s strategy and overall
performance for the good of company leaders, employees, and stakeholders. The new CEO will be
evaluated after one year by leaders, employees, and stakeholders.
Option 2: Enter into a new aggressive market
Kodak currently has no position within the ink market. The ink business is a $45 billion a year sector
that could regenerate Kodak s position in the printing sector. The market for ink is dominated by HP,
followed by Epson, Canon, and Lexmark. Entering a complete new market may be beneficial in its
current position. According to Kodak, the greatest obstacle to printing at home is the cost of ink and
supplies. Kodak can develop a cost efficient solution that will be more appealing to consumers. With
the launch of this product, Kodak must focus on several sectors of business: marketing, pricing,
distribution, and production. Onesource (2011). * Marketing Kodak is the world s foremost imaging
innovator. Its reputation in the film printing business is dominant. Introducing a new line of cost
efficient printer ink will be effective and popular. Kodak s target market will include anyone with a

Outsourcing has become so prevalent in recent years that one can say that we are living in an age of

This allows the service provider to manage the business processes which may include resources that
are necessary to providing services. For example, the technology, equipments and personnel are
transferred to the service provider. The amount transferred to the service provider often depends on the
magnitude or complexity of the services to be carried out. Additionally, the magnitude and complexity
of the service also determines the how long the relation between the organization and the service
provider.
Chamberland (2003), also points out that outsourcing s transfer of ownership to the service provider
differentiates it from other business relationships. In other business agreements, if an organization still
retains its processes, then the organization is purchasing time which is a services relationship.
However, if the contracted service provider owns and controls the processes, then the organization is
outsourcing. For example, a manufacturing company that hires an outside IT company to help repair
and maintain its computer system is not outsourcing. On the other hand, a manufacturing company
that transfers some of its business processes to an outside service provider that will provide customer
service and Human resource management services back to the company for some years is outsourcing.
Much like other business agreements, there are

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis Of Shooting An Elephant
Introduction:
Shooting an Elephant is an exposition composed by George Orwell. It was first distributed in the
artistic magazine New Writing in late 1936 and communicate by the BBC Home Service on 12
October 1948. George Orwell was an English author, writer, columnist, and commentator. His
exposition depicts the experience of the English storyteller, conceivably Orwell himself, called upon
to shoot a forceful elephant while acting as a cop in Burma.
Statement of the Problem:
In the paper, the essayist don t endeavor to murder the elephant Orwell, realizing that the elephant is
most likely no longer unsafe, has no aim of shooting the elephant. In spite of Orwell s abhorrence for

He is eased, he concedes, that the coolie kicked the bucket, since it gave him an affection for shooting
the elephant. To the extent his kindred officers are concerned, he made the best decision. To the extent

regularly pondered whether any of the others got a handle on that I had done it exclusively to abstain
from looking a trick.
Orwell can better comprehend government through his run in with the elephant on the grounds that the
elephant fills in as an image of imperialism. For instance, much like the Burmese who have been
colonized and who mishandle Orwell, the elephant has been incited to dangerous conduct by being
mistreated. While its ruinous conduct, and the Burmese more unobtrusive insubordination may not be
unequivocally great things, they are made reasonable given the harsh conditions both the elephant and
the Burmese have needed to persevere.

The Mescalero girls puberty ceremony is an example of a quot;Rite of

(Chapple and Coons, p. 484). The ceremony marks the transition from girl to quot;mother of a nation

The category quot;female quot; is related to fire, the color yellow, and the idea of being protected.
quot;Male quot; is related to the poles, the color red, and the idea of being the protector.
Yellow pollen, symbolizing women, is applied to the girls early in the ceremony.
Furthermore, rather than being stripped bare, the girls are ornately decorated.
However, one may argue that they have been stripped of the attire they wore before the ceremony.
According to Turner, the liminal period is one of humility, obedience, and danger. The girls do exhibit
these qualities during the period of transition, particularly during the all night dancing ordeal. I still
would not interpret this as a quot;low quot; because of the blessings the girls bestow upon the
community and because of the massages they receive from the
Godmothers.
The period of incorporation has been described as phase in which quot;. .
. the individual begins once again his interaction with the members of his community . . . quot;
(Chapple and Coons, p. 485). As noted earlier, the girls interaction with the community is maintained
at different points in the ritual.
However, the girls do undergo a radical change during the ceremony, culminating in their
reincorporation into their communities as new individuals. The ceremony began with the males
constructing a lodge and ended with the girls destroying the lodge. In the beginning, the girls gave

Origins Of Sexual Orientation
One of many debatable topics nationwide today are the origins of sexual orientation. According to the
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate

(What is Sexual Orientation?). Society classifies people who only seek the opposite sex as
heterosexuals and those who adore the same sex, as homosexuals. But what comes to your mind when
you think of the reason for their preference(s)? Do you think that people are influenced by society

He also includes adopted brothers into the study to prove that although influences play a supporting
role, they do not determine one s sexual orientation. For instance, Glaude includes Twenty percent of

Globalization of the Economy
Economic globalization has voluminous positive influences on international security as well. The most
important effect of economic globalization is that it curbs the authority of state. It also reduces states
dependence on military based security and ultimately reduces states monopoly on security. This effect
is considered by many, a prime factor contributing towards peace and stability. There are number of
factors associated with economic globalization which affects states authority.
Firstly, present economic globalization has opened the door of opportunities for most of the countries.
Though developed countries are making most profit from this opportunity but developing and even
least developing countries are also exploiting the mutual benefit. Due to open competition local
productions in less developed and developing countries are achieving better performance and
standard. Economic globalization is also creating employment opportunities in those countries. On the
other hand states are losing their monopoly on tax collection due to mismatch of economic and
political jurisdiction, and internet based trade. Thus, on one hand economy has become priority for
states, and on the other hand states losing part of its control on economy. Therefore, economic
globalization is exerting its authority on political and state power.
Secondly, with economic globalization there is an immense increase of the number of MNCs and their
power in influencing politics. These MNCs, as

For this the final reflection assignment I will be using the Sniper 101 Part 44 Cleaning your Extreme

Becoming The Boss And A Survival Guide For Leaders
Kathleen Wykoff
March 1 2015
HSMP 3200 995
Leadership Review Paper When I read the two articles Becoming the Boss and A Survival Guide for
Leaders , I noticed various differences between the two. While both articles consist of tips and advice
for leaders, they go about that in two diverse ways. From the one article read, leadership is made out
to be an abundance of responsibility, while the other article starts by describing leadership as
dangerous and risky. Although responsibility and danger come with both good and bad in this case, I
felt very differently about the separate articles. However, in both readings there were things I liked
and disliked, and many things I would remember for future reference. In Linda Hill s article Becoming
the Boss She begins by writing about the common misconceptions of management. She does this to
help future leaders skip the first few days of despair that so many new bosses experience. Hill goes
about being a successful boss with the method of changing the myths and misconceptions into realities
of the job. A few ideas that are suggested in this article are to make connections outside of your
business that can benefit your workers, show good character, influence and treat your employees with
respect (listen to them), understand that control doesn t mean commitment, and let others help you.
The last two I listed seemed to be very stressed in her article. When Hill writes that control doesn t
equal commitment , she is referring to

1. LITERATURE REVIEW
This literature review explores the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty
and how do these theories affect businesses in hospitality industry. Hence, there are many researchers
that have studied about these two concepts that will help people to better understand about the two
theories.
Why does customer satisfaction is very important in business? This is because all businesses need
customers and if the customer is satisfied with the item he or she bought, it will help to increase the
market of the business itself. As that particular customer will help to try and promote the products to
their relatives or friends. Customer satisfaction basically is the key objective in service operations
representing an affective self evaluation based on price and quality trades off (Roest and Pieters,1997).
There are few definitions about customer satisfaction according to different researchers. According to

Study indicates that satisfaction basically consists of cognitive and affective variables. Cognitive
measures include disconfirmation and expectations (Oliver,1980), also perceived performance (Tse
and Wilton, 1998). Other measures include equity and performance (Oliver and DeSarbo,1988),
fairness (Oliver and Swan,1989), expectancy disconfirmation (Oliver and Burke, 1999), need
fulfilment (Oliver, 1995), and price acceptance or desire to pay (Huber et al., 2000). This
measurement can lead to the discovery of affective variables by trying to improve satisfaction. There
are two affective variables that Westbrook (1987) found. One is positive affect the other is negative
affect. He stated that both positive and negative affect are linked to post purchased word of mouth.
Thus, this makes that there s a relationship between quality and customer

The Effects Of Culture On Drinking Behavior
One of the concepts that I was able to understand better from the interview is the way that culture
view the use of alcohol. From what James described he was considered an adult in his house hold and
when he began to drink he viewed it as a natural rite of passage. His mother consumed alcohol from
time to time, but it was not out of control so he grew up with the cultural belief of his mother which is
that alcohol is a sign of being an adult. In America it is seen as something that provides sexiness,
maturity, sophistication, and status. My perception on culture and the effects that it has on drinking
behavior we completely changed. I understand that there are many components to determine if a
person is going down a path of addiction, but

Underdog Branding and Its Consumer Appeal
Picture the Jamaican bobsled team going for the gold at the Winter Olympics. Or competitors in what
seem fundamentally unbalanced battles: the Chicago Cubs versus the New York Yankees, Apple
versus Microsoft, and Southwest Airlines versus United.
In the public eye, the weaker party is often more attractive. Why?
The reason might be an increasing willingness on the part of consumers to identify with the underdog.
In today s economically difficult times, it appears, underdog brands are gaining psychological, and
real, power in the marketplace.
In today s world, underdog narratives address real world challenges and anxieties faced by increasing
numbers of Americans.

Q: How did you notice this trend? How did you study it in depth?
A: Our interest was piqued during the 2008 presidential election when virtually all the candidates,

positioning across a diverse group of brands.

Symptoms Of Sleep Apnea
When the throat narrows a little or is absolutely shut, the sleeper gasps for breath, and wakes up very
often.
This plight is known as sleep apnea. People with this ailment have trouble sleeping.
What causes sleep apnea
Certain conditions can also promote sleep apnea causes such as bulky throat tissue, large tonsils, a
recessed jaw, adenoids, uvulas, tumors or cysts in the airway, and nasal deformity. All these can cause
the airway to collapse when you breathe. Sleep apnea is usually years in making, and the pauses can
last from 10 seconds to a minute. It can happen at any age, but more likely in thirties and forties when
muscle tones become flabbier, and weight gain takes a toll.

condition is getting quite serious, you might want to try conventional methods for treatment.
These methods may not be comfortable, or may be subject to some side effects, but could be help for
sleep apnea.
There are so many non prescription nasal sprays available such as Afrin that can open the airway in
the throat. But be careful not to overuse them because they can make matters worse.
Generally, you need to be wary of medications, because some doctors can recommend stimulants to
keep tone in the airway during your sleep. Unfortunately it can stop you from getting extended sleep
you need to be healthy.

Compare And Contrast The Astronauts In Apollo 11 And The...
Have you ever wondered why historians compare the astronauts in Apollo 11 and the Corpse of
Discovery? Almost 200 years ago, 35 men were sent on a long journey that lasted about two years.
This journey took place after the Louisiana purchase and soon made American history. Then, on July
16th,1969, three astronauts were sent up into space about to make American history. There were some
difficulties, but they successfully made it to the moon. These two topics may sound off, but if you
really think about it, they are similar in many ways. First of all, astronauts in Apollo 11 and Lewis had
to adapt to their new surroundings. Since they couldn t carry an Infinite amount of supplies, both
groups had to ration their food and water supply. Lewis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be an astronaut, you need to have a degree in science and engineering. In fact, you must be
in top condition in order to go into space. You must be free from diseases, and you cannot depend on
drugs and alcohol. On the other hand, Lewis only picked men who were in the military. He did not pay
attention to their condition when he was choosing his men. However, his men had never been out
west. This was a big disadvantage because no one knew what could of been out there. On the other
hand, Neil Armstrong, one of the astronauts on Apollo 11, is an experienced astronaut. This was a
advantage for the other astronauts. In comparison, both of the groups were able to bring back some
amazing things. The astronauts on Apollo 11 were able to bring back lunar samples for scientists to
study. Lewis and Clark sent back plant samples and a prairie dog for Jefferson. In conclusion, the
Corpse of Discovery and Apollo 11 may sound different, but they have many similarities. Both of the
groups had trouble getting to their destination, but successfully made it without too much trouble. Like
Apollo 11, the men participating in the Corpse of discovery were specifically chosen. However, these
two topics had their differences. For example: While the men in Apollo 11 rode on rockets, Lewis and
his men had to walk or ride on boats. No matter how many differences

Benefits Of A Cloud Based Service Essay
Which is best ? A burning question for SMBs
In the recent decade, the price of storage and bandwidth has continously decreased, and so cloud
based services are most sought after and more attractive to small and medium sized business(SMBs),
which are seeking to reduce licensing costs, avoid recruiting IT staff and focus fully on their core
responsibilty growing the business. Although the cloud provides SMBs the cost effective option,
companies need to be careful and should not fall into the all cloud solution strategy. There is no one
model which fits in for all the requirements rather than diving headfirst into the Cloud, SMBs would
do well to see how they can maximize the benefits of their existing set up as well as those that a Cloud
based service can give them. With the hybrid delivery model, SMBs can leverage best of both type of
infrastructure without long term commitments, unnecessary costs and the inefficiencies of hosted and

They Call Him Mr. Gacy Essay
There are numerous portraits, perspectives, and analyses of the life and deeds of American serial killer
John Wayne Gacy, who is thought to have sexually assaulted and murdered 32 boys between 1976 and
his arrest in December 1978 (Cahill, 1978; Gacy, 1989). This profile of Gacy compiles a birth to death

citizen, and serial murderer.
Born to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Hanely Gacy on St. Patrick s Day in 1942, John

In September of 1964 he married his co worker Marilynn Myers whose father owned a franchise of

During this period, John and his wife invited employees to their home for drinks and television.
Hidden in the game room were homosexual videos, alcohol, and marijuana. One particular visit to
their home, John approached employee Westphal to solicit a blowjob. Although Westphal declined the

Westphal fulfilled John?s desires. After this incident rumors of John?s sexual preferences began to

John?s interests in young boys increased and in the spring of 1968 he was indicted by a grand jury in
Black Hawk County for allegedly committing sodomy with a teenage boy named Mark Miller. Mark

Light and Dark in Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s repeated use of darkness in his novel Heart of Darkness has been widely interpreted.
Readers have arrived at many different conclusions about the use of darkness throughout the novel.
The critics themselves cannot agree what the darkness means.
The critics draw different conclusions about the use of darkness. For some critics, the use of darkness
is seen as an intentional literary device. For example, Gary Adelman and Michael Levenson discuss
the use of darkness and comment upon Conrad s purpose. Gary Adelman suggests that Conrad used
darkness as a means to tie together various elements of the novel. Adelman says, the most elaborate of
Conrad s devices for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Marlow finally meets Kurtz, he is faced with a shocking revelation (87) writes Adelman; that
the darkness . . . is not African, but European (87).
While Adelman talks about darkness and how it links many elements of the novel together, Michael
Levenson concludes that Conrad chose to use darkness throughout the novel because of the sense it
conveyed to the reader. Levenson sees darkness as the perfect moral term (404), conjuring up a certain
impression that is conveyed from beginning to end of the story. As the story unfolds, the reader is
meant to associate darkness with facts and values. Levenson reasons that the transitions (404) from
one scene to another are almost seamless (404) as a result of the way in which Conrad uses words like
darkness and gloom and what those words come to mean to the reader. To illustrate his point, he talks
about the transitions from the literal gloom of the African jungle to Kurtz s gloomy horror . . . from the
black bank of clouds above the Thames to the heart of darkness (404). They appear seamless, says
Levenson because this darkness is a metaphor which so reliably links facts and values (405). He then
points out that because of its associations and the frequency with which it is used, the word darkness
scarcely seems a figure of speech at all (405). According to Levenson, this works to Conrad s
advantage. He suggests that, as long as there is a strong association in the reader s mind between
darkness

Personal Narrative-Freshman Ella
Freshman Ella. It s a scary thought, but for this story we have to go back to March of my freshman
year at an event called Chamber Festival, which is basically when you play in small groups instead of
large orchestras. In our school orchestra I was second chair viola which, me only being a freshman,
was a very big deal. At least it was for me. Many of my other friends in orchestra already had their
own instruments, and I felt like it was time to get one of my own. So for months I begged my parents.
I insisted that I wouldn t give up playing in a year or two, that I really would stick with it long enough
for the investment to make sense. Finally, in the beginning of 2015, they agreed to get me a viola.
Now was the hard part, agreeing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

shop, called The Baroque Violin Shop. When I walked into the white walled room, the first thing I
noticed was the three tables full of violins and violas. I walked around for a while, before working up
the courage to ask one of the workers if they had any 16 and ½ or 17 inch violas. They had one, a 16
and ½ inch with a light finish, and slight striations on the wood. The strings are worn, and my fingers
have grey lines indented on the tips, after I ve played for hours. The sides of the face are chipped from
two years of wear and tear, for it goes everywhere I go. I have a pretty indepth knowledge of what this
viola looks like. Unlike most instrument owners, I haven t given this viola a name yet. I don t know
why, I just haven t found the right name yet. I have put so many hours into this viola, you think I

Escalating Professional Athlete Salaries

In recent years, with the growing popularity of sports, athletes salaries have escalated like that of a

true meaning of their salary, the love of the game.
Others feel that if a person is able to earn that kind of money, why shouldn t they? Increases in athlete

The problem is they want to do that immediately. In a couple years, after Garnett develops into a

undoubtedly necessary to have rookie salary caps. If there weren?t those rookie caps, kids out of
college, even high school like KG [Kevin Garnett], would be signing these multi million dollar
contracts right after the draft. There is no doubt in my mind that that was a good thing to do. He also
feels that these high salaries are good because it shows that revenue is going up (Rosen). Sports
salaries have sky rocketed in the past ten to fifteen years. Professional athletes have moved from six
figure salaries to nine figure salaries in what seems like a snap of a finger. Michael Jordan, for
example, got paid about $35 million a year not counting endorsements. Let?s put that in easier terms:
$439,000 a game $12,500 a minute played, assuming he plays about 35 minutes per game $209 a
second played almost $40,000 a jumpshot, assuming he makes 11 jumpshots per game That is a ton of
money when one looks at it this way. If one includes the endorsements he gets, which are from Nike,
Gatorade, Hanes, Ballpark hot dogs, Jordan shoes and clothing, Rayovac Batteries, and Michael
Jordan cologne, he makes about one million dollars per game. Now this is a little too much, even if it
is, in fact, Michael Jordan, probably the best basketball

Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay
I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba,
but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in
mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were
shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution
was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story,
Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that

He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know now that
is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently

more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes
or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were
important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander
or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to
the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro
trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking
statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will
resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was
surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was

  • 2. The Theme Of Dreams In The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge Within the films The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge the theme of dreams is consistently present. Baz Lurhmann who directed both films used numerous filmic techniques to convey the influence of dreams. A dream is an aspiration and fantasy that one deeply desires to attain. Dreams go hand in hand with ambition and thus drive the characters actions. However, in my opinion, dreams may take on an idealistic and delusional nature and thus act as unattainable and unrealistic entities. Thus this essay will focus on the unrealistic nature of the characters ambitions and the consequent failures of their dreams. For the purpose of this essay I will be discussing different scenes within the films and the numerous filmic techniques used that explore the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It inhabits Gatsby s dream of unbounded wealth and attempts to allure Daisy from across the river. Image two shows an establishing shot of Gatsby s house that introduces this vibrant, vast and extravagant lifestyle led by this rich demographic. It shows this kaleidoscopic carnival of people from every walk of life and every corner of New York City descending upon Gatsby s house. The house welcomes everyone with all its windows lit up and the flamboyant towering fountains shooting into the air. In the establishing shot one can see behind Gatsby s house the dark and neglected Valley of Ashes on the left hand side and on the right hand side the excessively lit East Egg. This technique is used in order to convey this looming idea that The American Dream does not benefit everybody and is essentially a failure for the vast majority of people. The scene experiences a quick transition introducing an eye level long shot of swerving cars and frenzied party guests. The audience s senses are assaulted by the disorientating sound of trumpets and car horns, giving momentum and a pulsing beat, which invigorates the audience. Lurhmann uses numerous zooming techniques as a way to immerse the audience in the raucous and recklessness of the drunken partygoers. Nick is swept into the entrance hall that is filled with people and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast The Pantheon In Athens And The Parthenon Two Ancient Monuments Two of the ancient world s best examples of architecture, which still exist today, are the Pantheon in Athens, and the Parthenon in Rome. Both of these monuments are more than just classical temples, they are symbols of the great civilizations of the past which constructed them. Achievements which have stood the test of time, despite the fact they have been stripped of their former glory. First of all let s consider the older of the two, the Parthenon. The Parthenon stands on the top of the Acropolis, a rocky outcrop in the center of Athens, Greece. Work began on the temple complex shortly after the war with Persia ended, from 447 to 432 BCE. The funds to finance the building of this grand monument came from the surplus of the war treasury of the Delian League, an alliance of city states created for the sake of defence against the Persians. The Acropolis had suffered greatly in the war when the Persians invaded Athens in 480 BCE, looting and destroying the temples. Yet the building of the Parthenon was more than just a restoration of lost temples, it was a statement, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The largest dome ever made when constructed, it is still considered the largest unreinforced concrete structure of its kind. The dome of the Pantheon is what makes this building so unique. The rotunda measures 43.3 meters in diameter, which is the exact height from the floor to the oculus, open skylight, which means it is a perfect hemisphere. A 43.3 meter diameter sphere would fit perfectly under the dome. The dome is made of pumice mixed with concrete, a process which was lost with the fall of the Roman Empire and only now starting to be understood. The thickness of the dome tapers from 6.4 meters at the base to 1.2 meters around the oculus. The weight of the dome was reduced by forming five rings of 28 coffers, recessed panels, into the interior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Collect the pure t pentyl chloride in a receiver cooled in ice. Collect the material that boils between 78°C and 84°C. Weigh the product and calculate the percentage yield. Results | Weight | Empty Erlenmeyer flask | 39.23 g | Flask with collected t pentyl chloride | 46.61 | Discussion First thing we did in this lab was to add HCl to the t pentyl alcohol. We did this because by adding the HCl, we are creating what we wanted, t pentyl chloride. Then, due to the difference in density, layers will form. The top layer and less dense is the organic layer, the t pentyl chloride and the bottom layer is the aqueous layer. • 8. Hypocrisy In Canterbury s Canterbury Tales Canterbury Tales is one of the most important pieces of writing from the Medieval times.Having a major influence of religion to carry the tales out,While giving the reader an idea of how religion dominated society during the fourteenth century. The narrative of Canterbury Tales are religious, as the characters are on a pilgrimage to Canterbury. So,throughout the tales there are various evidence of religious influences, but the two main Religious aspects that are very prominent within the text is Religious Hypocrisy and Church Corruption. Religious Hypocrisy is when a virtuous person with moral or religious beliefs or principles, usually in a high religious ranking who does not really possess those qualities that they claim to have, and usually lives the total opposite way of what they portray to believe in.There seems to be plenty of Hypocrisy going on in Canterbury tales from majority of the characters. The old saying practice what you preach,is highly ignored by the Pardoner, who traveled along the countryside selling official church pardons, which were pieces of paper signed by a bishop entitling the bearer to forgiveness for their sins. The Pardoner addresses ideas in his sermons such as greed, selfishness, and other sins.Only to neglect his own teaches and indulge in these sins that he preaches against. • 9. Analysis On The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System The integrated geophysical, remote sensing, isotopic and geochronologic and modelling studies on the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System have come up with the following findings and recommendations: 1 Geophysical studies: Based on the integration of gravity, magnetic, and borehole data the structural trends, uplifts and sedimentary cover affecting the aquifer behavior have been conducted. The area of the NSAS is affected by several structural trends in different directions; the most prominent directions are NE SW, N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and Qattara mega shears. The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern Sudan and southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The sediments thickness shows a shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift which may impede the south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas in the south. The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues upward in the sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along its zone, which were filled by high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin in Libya and Chad to the northern part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. This zone could provide a preferred groundwater flow pathway from the Kufra to the Dakhla Basin. 2 Climatically (GRACE CLM4.5): ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Traditional Families In The 1800s Families in History There are many ways that the idea of the traditional family has changed over the past several centuries. For instance prior to the 19th century family was often considered anyone who lived within a household whether related by blood or not. This included employees and extended family. The biological family was less sacrosanct, and less sentimentalized, than it would become in the nineteenth century. (Coontz 35) In society at the time it was socially unacceptable to be separate and not included as part of a family household. Over time the term family came to encompass the immediate family, a husband, wife and their children. During the late 1800 s through the mid 1900 s there were emerging ideas of family that were not widely accepted as traditional or normal, these included single parent homes with only a Mom or Dad, Stepfamilies and ... The most important effect of economic globalization is that it curbs the authority of state. It also reduces states dependence on military based security and ultimately reduces states monopoly on security. This effect is considered by many, a prime factor contributing towards peace and stability. There are number of factors associated with economic globalization which affects states authority. Firstly, present economic globalization has opened the door of opportunities for most of the countries. Though developed countries are making most profit from this opportunity but developing and even least developing countries are also exploiting the mutual benefit. Due to open competition local productions in less developed and developing countries are achieving better performance and standard. Economic globalization is also creating employment opportunities in those countries. On the other hand states are losing their monopoly on tax collection due to mismatch of economic and political jurisdiction, and internet based trade. Thus, on one hand economy has become priority for states, and on the other hand states losing part of its control on economy. She does this to help future leaders skip the first few days of despair that so many new bosses experience. • 31. Compare And Contrast The Astronauts In Apollo 11 And The... Have you ever wondered why historians compare the astronauts in Apollo 11 and the Corpse of Discovery? Almost 200 years ago, 35 men were sent on a long journey that lasted about two years. This journey took place after the Louisiana purchase and soon made American history. Then, on July 16th,1969, three astronauts were sent up into space about to make American history. There were some difficulties, but they successfully made it to the moon. These two topics may sound off, but if you really think about it, they are similar in many ways. First of all, astronauts in Apollo 11 and Lewis had to adapt to their new surroundings. Since they couldn t carry an Infinite amount of supplies, both groups had to ration their food and water supply. Lewis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to be an astronaut, you need to have a degree in science and engineering. In fact, you must be in top condition in order to go into space. You must be free from diseases, and you cannot depend on drugs and alcohol. On the other hand, Lewis only picked men who were in the military. He did not pay attention to their condition when he was choosing his men. However, his men had never been out west. This was a big disadvantage because no one knew what could of been out there. On the other hand, Neil Armstrong, one of the astronauts on Apollo 11, is an experienced astronaut. This was a advantage for the other astronauts. In comparison, both of the groups were able to bring back some amazing things. The astronauts on Apollo 11 were able to bring back lunar samples for scientists to study. Lewis and Clark sent back plant samples and a prairie dog for Jefferson. In conclusion, the Corpse of Discovery and Apollo 11 may sound different, but they have many similarities. Both of the groups had trouble getting to their destination, but successfully made it without too much trouble. Like Apollo 11, the men participating in the Corpse of discovery were specifically chosen. However, these two topics had their differences. For example: While the men in Apollo 11 rode on rockets, Lewis and his men had to walk or ride on boats. No matter how many differences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They Call Him Mr. Gacy Essay There are numerous portraits, perspectives, and analyses of the life and deeds of American serial killer John Wayne Gacy, who is thought to have sexually assaulted and murdered 32 boys between 1976 and his arrest in December 1978 (Cahill, 1978; Gacy, 1989). This profile of Gacy compiles a birth to death chronology of events and activities that may lend insight to the personality of a habitual liar, model citizen, and serial murderer. Born to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Hanely Gacy on St. Patrick s Day in 1942, John Wayne Gacy was the second of three children. Hidden in the game room were homosexual videos, alcohol, and marijuana. One particular visit to their home, John approached employee Westphal to solicit a blowjob. Although Westphal declined the offer, John would joke with him that if he ever caught Westphal with his wife, he would owe John that blowjob. During a subsequent visit, Westphal became inebriated at John?s house and stayed the night in the guest room. After Westphal began to doze off, Marilynn entered the room and joined Westphal in bed. John then entered the room to remind Westphal of his obligation. Fearing the loss of his job, Westphal fulfilled John?s desires. After this incident rumors of John?s sexual preferences began to spread. John?s interests in young boys increased and in the spring of 1968 he was indicted by a grand jury in Black Hawk County for allegedly committing sodomy with a teenage boy named Mark Miller. • 34. lighthod Light and Dark in Joseph Conrad s Heart of... Light and Dark in Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s repeated use of darkness in his novel Heart of Darkness has been widely interpreted. Readers have arrived at many different conclusions about the use of darkness throughout the novel. The critics themselves cannot agree what the darkness means. The critics draw different conclusions about the use of darkness. For some critics, the use of darkness is seen as an intentional literary device. For example, Gary Adelman and Michael Levenson discuss the use of darkness and comment upon Conrad s purpose. Gary Adelman suggests that Conrad used darkness as a means to tie together various elements of the novel. Adelman says, the most elaborate of Conrad s devices for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Marlow finally meets Kurtz, he is faced with a shocking revelation (87) writes Adelman; that the darkness . . . is not African, but European (87). While Adelman talks about darkness and how it links many elements of the novel together, Michael Levenson concludes that Conrad chose to use darkness throughout the novel because of the sense it conveyed to the reader. Levenson sees darkness as the perfect moral term (404), conjuring up a certain impression that is conveyed from beginning to end of the story. As the story unfolds, the reader is meant to associate darkness with facts and values. Levenson reasons that the transitions (404) from one scene to another are almost seamless (404) as a result of the way in which Conrad uses words like darkness and gloom and what those words come to mean to the reader. To illustrate his point, he talks about the transitions from the literal gloom of the African jungle to Kurtz s gloomy horror . . . from the black bank of clouds above the Thames to the heart of darkness (404). They appear seamless, says Levenson because this darkness is a metaphor which so reliably links facts and values (405). He then points out that because of its associations and the frequency with which it is used, the word darkness scarcely seems a figure of speech at all (405). According to Levenson, this works to Conrad s advantage. He suggests that, as long as there is a strong association in the reader s mind between darkness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Personal Narrative-Freshman Ella Freshman Ella. It s a scary thought, but for this story we have to go back to March of my freshman year at an event called Chamber Festival, which is basically when you play in small groups instead of large orchestras. In our school orchestra I was second chair viola which, me only being a freshman, was a very big deal. At least it was for me. Many of my other friends in orchestra already had their own instruments, and I felt like it was time to get one of my own. So for months I begged my parents. I insisted that I wouldn t give up playing in a year or two, that I really would stick with it long enough for the investment to make sense. Finally, in the beginning of 2015, they agreed to get me a viola. Now was the hard part, agreeing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So first I went to Christian Eggerts. When I went there and asked for the viola they held for me, I was sorely disappointed. The viola they had, had the exact same timbre as my school viola which, though not bad, wasn t what I was looking for. I was disappointed, so I decided to look at the other music shop, called The Baroque Violin Shop. When I walked into the white walled room, the first thing I noticed was the three tables full of violins and violas. I walked around for a while, before working up the courage to ask one of the workers if they had any 16 and ½ or 17 inch violas. They had one, a 16 and ½ inch with a light finish, and slight striations on the wood. The strings are worn, and my fingers have grey lines indented on the tips, after I ve played for hours. The sides of the face are chipped from two years of wear and tear, for it goes everywhere I go. I have a pretty indepth knowledge of what this viola looks like. Unlike most instrument owners, I haven t given this viola a name yet. I don t know why, I just haven t found the right name yet. I have put so many hours into this viola, you think I would be able to think of a name, since every day I ve played for at least an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Escalating Professional Athlete Salaries Escalating Professional Athlete Salaries Works Cited Not Included In recent years, with the growing popularity of sports, athletes salaries have escalated like that of a superb stock equity. Athletes are taking full advantage of their position, causing the average man to wonder how high will they go. Some feel that athletes are greedy people who have lost care for the true meaning of their salary, the love of the game. Others feel that if a person is able to earn that kind of money, why shouldn t they? If there weren?t those rookie caps, kids out of college, even high school like KG [Kevin Garnett], would be signing these multi million dollar contracts right after the draft. There is no doubt in my mind that that was a good thing to do. He also feels that these high salaries are good because it shows that revenue is going up (Rosen). Sports salaries have sky rocketed in the past ten to fifteen years. Professional athletes have moved from six figure salaries to nine figure salaries in what seems like a snap of a finger. Michael Jordan, for example, got paid about $35 million a year not counting endorsements. Let?s put that in easier terms: $439,000 a game $12,500 a minute played, assuming he plays about 35 minutes per game $209 a second played almost $40,000 a jumpshot, assuming he makes 11 jumpshots per game That is a ton of money when one looks at it this way. If one includes the endorsements he gets, which are from Nike, Gatorade, Hanes, Ballpark hot dogs, Jordan shoes and clothing, Rayovac Batteries, and Michael Jordan cologne, he makes about one million dollars per game. Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba, but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. We know now that is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently despised. Castro praises the people of Cuba. No general can do more than the people. No army can do more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39).
