The Importance Of Characters In Fifth Business
In the novel Fifth Business, characters mark new chapters of their lives by changing their names.
Names are used to identify people in society and they are a symbol of self. The characters, Dunstan,
Boy and Paul all change their names, Dunstable to Dunstan, Percy to Boy, and Paul to Magnus.
Despite the characters attempts to change their names and personalities, Davies reveals that people
will always maintain their true identities.
Throughout the novel, Dunstan plays the role of Fifth Business even when he embarks onto a new
chapter of his life. Dunstan s major role in this book is revealing to Paul that the cause for his mother s
insanity was because Boy threw a snowball with a stone in it that hit his mother. He says, Dunstan
Ramsay counselled against revelation, but Fifth Business would not hear. Yes, guilt. Staunton and I
robbed your mother of her sanity (Davies 263). In this quote, Dunstan claims that he is Fifth Business
because he provided information that led Paul to kill Boy. Paul was always told his birth was the cause
of his mother s insanity. Her madness is what made him leave Deptford and caused him trouble during
his childhood. Later on in the conversation Dunstan says, Fifth Business insisted on being heard again.
Would this jog your memory? I asked, handing him my old paperweight. (Davies 264). Dunstan
proves he is Fifth Business again by revealing the stone that was placed inside of the snowball. This is
very important because Paul now

Lavender Scare Essay
During the Cold War disloyalty throughout the nation was something everybody was scared of and
many government officials and police were taking matters into their own hands. One of the best
examples of conformity and disloyalty in the United States is with the Lavender Scare. The Lavender
Scare was a very extreme persecution of gays in the 1950 s, who were seen disloyal to the people and
government officials of the United States because of all the terrible things that was going on with
communism. Conformity was the basis of the Cold War because the United States was trying to find
anybody who could bring harm to the nation. For example, if there was anybody who was not normal

The government, knowing very little about people and hardly any evidence would take anyone they
thought was suspicious of anything odd for questioning and if they were suspected of homosexuality
they would be fired right away. The government thought people who were gay were disloyal to the
United States and made it so gay and lesbian people were without jobs in the state departments, which
later started the Gay Rights Movement and till this day is still a very controversial topic. Not so much
within employment in government jobs but more of people not being able to love and marry the
people they please. Any person who was thought to be gay or lesbian were perceived as a security risk
because they were thought of as disloyal to the United States and were discriminated against. People
had a hard time distinguishing between political disloyalty and security risk. The security risk that the
government thought a lot about was the fact that the gay and lesbian employees knew that it was an
issue to work there but they hide it. They thought that if these employees could hide something like
this from us, then they could possibly be hiding the fact that they were communists and if a
communist would threaten to tell the government that they were gay or lesbian than they might tell
communist what the government was planning to do to take down communism around the

Pros And Cons Of Hiit
4. I just bought the Insanity Workout DVD. Is it any good? A. Workouts like Insanity ... ....are
examples of High Intensity Interval Training [HIIT]. It therefore makes more sense to talk about HIIT.
B. So What exactly is HIIT? HIIT are exercise routines consisting short bursts of intense activity
lasting usu. 30 seconds, followed by low intensity activity lasting around 45 60 seconds. HIIT should
not really last longer than 15 minutes on average. [This excludes warming up, stretching, cooling
down, etc] C. So What exactly are the Pros and Cons of HIIT? Advantages of HIIT ‣ You get up to
50% more fat loss than you do doing traditional cardio [eg. an hour on treadmill, etc]. ‣ Improves
aerobic and anaerobic endurance. This means you can perform better in sports utilising similar
concepts to HIIT e.g.. football, basketball, sprinting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, HIIT switches on a fat burning switch in your body that can go on for a day or two. ‣
Shorter workout. You re in and out of the gym in 30 minutes. Disadvantages of HIIT ‣ Injury prone.
HIIT can cause injury due to the amount of pressure and stress placed on joints/tendons.. ‣ Not
suitable for beginners. This is because HIIT is very intense and, as a result, does require the individual
to have some experience with regular exercise routines. If this is not the case, injury is more probable.
‣ Not suitable for people with cardiovascular disorders. ‣ Will compromise muscle growth if done too
often, especially for those on strength training programs. 5. So Do I Count My Calories or

Using A Virtual Private Network
VPNs
By
Samantha Fitzpatrick
Prepared for
Dr. Ford
30 April 2015 Introduction There is a growing need to connect to internal networks from locations
other than the regular and secure office. Employers and organizations need to realize that employees
often need to connect to internal private networks from home, hotels, airports, etc. A solution for this
problem is using a virtual private network (VPN), which is a network that uses public network paths,
but maintains the security and protection of private networks. Secure communication is expensive, but
VPNs allow organizations to have a number of discrete communication services for a large amount of
clients. It is cheaper to have a copious amount of virtual networks on a couple physical devices than
having a copious amount of physically discrete devices accomplishing the same objective.
Methodology
VPNs transmit data through secure tunneling. A packet is first encapsulated in a new packet with a
new header and then sent through the tunnel, which is normally IPSec, L2TP, PPTP, or SSL. Both
points of the tunnel need to support the protocol used. To provide access to the internet, the packet
with a private IP address can be sent inside of a packet with a global IP address. For security, VPNs
use encryption to make sure packets are indecipherable without the proper keys, which provides data
confidentiality. They also provide data integrity using a message digest to ensure the information has
not been tampered with

Essay On Fat-Tax Law
Introduction: The Minister of Health of Canada has created a new law which targets those who have
health concerns due to obesity. This law is meant to deal with the aging population and the increase of
cases of obesity. While, also being concerned on age and obesity, the increase of demand for health
care became a factor in the creation of this law. The Fat Tax Law, the maximum waistline size for
anyone age 40 and over: 90 centimeters (35.5 inches) for men and 85 centimeters (33.4 inches ) for
women. If one surpasses these limits they must be remeasured in 6 months and given a warning. But,
the person does not pass a second time, they must pay a higher premium on their provincial health
care. Once they pass the measurement test, the y will be able to pay a lower premium. Mr. Big is 56
years old and 50lbs overweight, and he failed the waistline test. For six months, Mr. Big dieted and

A Restaurant At A Glance Essay
Dining at a Glance When it comes to dining in at a restaurant we all want the best service that we can
get. When I think of the best service I think about the cleanliness, nice waitresses, good food, and
affordable prices. There are so many different options when a family thinks about going out to eat,
especially if they have small children. It s often hard to go to a nice dine in restaurant because
sometimes it s hard to find something on the menu for everyone in the family. I have experienced
many things at two completely different restaurants. I can say Demos is better than Logan s because
the food and service is much better. Cleanliness is especially important for women; no one wants to go
into a restroom that has nasty, unsanitary toilets. Having a nice waitress is a big impact on a family s
dining experience. If you have a rude waitress, it ruins the whole meal. If you have a family,
affordable prices are convenient because you don t have to worry about leaving the restaurant broke!
Lastly, good food, it makes or breaks your dining experience. This is mainly good for women seeking
delicious and cheap meals for their families. Demos is located in Murfreesboro which is known to be a
very populated town. With that being said, sometimes there is a 5 10 minute wait on a table. As long
as I ve been going there to eat it has never been over ten minutes. It s not really a fancy place to eat its
more casual. When you walk in you hear classical music it s very peaceful

Dickens A Christmas Carol and the Industrial Revolution
Besides being the secular story of Christmas time in an
urban setting, A Christmas Carol, tells the sacred story of
Christmas as well. With A Christmas Carol, Dickens initiated an
ongoing creative process in the Anglo American imagination. As a
result of the Industrial Revolution and the growth and
development of cities people s lives changed drastically as they
moved from the life and traditions of the country into those of the
city. As industrialization continued, for many people in the city
living and working conditions worsened. As reports of horrible

While some argue that Dickens was prompted by the plight
of the poor to write a story bringing some of the traditional
Christmas spirit to the city using a secular story, there is clear
evidence that Dickens looked to religious beliefs and Christian
values as a way to keep Christmas sacred and also as a way to
respond to the problems society was facing. In particular, the time
Scrooge spends with the Ghost of Christmas Future shows how
Dickens asserts various Christian values. Just as Jesus speaks of
welcoming and caring for children as a way of honoring God,
Dickens story suggests the same moral and Christian value; in this
case the caring for Tiny Tim and his poor family as a way of
honoring God. A more symbolic lesson can be seen by
comparing Tiny Tim s grave with Scrooge s. When Bob Cratchit

The Signs Of Shopping By Anne Norton
Shopping, a common activity conducted by almost everyone at least once a month, is such a normal
subject in our everyday life, one barely puts any thoughts into the potential semiotic explanations
behind it. According to the two essays, The Signs of Shopping and The Science of Shopping,
Shopping has significant impacts on one s self identification. It is a two way straight, the consumers
shopping styles can also influence the economic status of the retails businesses. The Signs of
Shopping by Anne Norton mainly talks about the hidden semiotic meanings behind the concept of
shopping. She mentioned how women shopped to obtain a sense of self identities by spending money

pathetic and evil. As a feminist, I believe in gender equality. I have to admit I may be a little bias here.
Women can seek self worth from working, volunteering, and even directly participating in their daily

evidence on the reasoning behind the behaviors of shopping homemakers. I, hereby, argue that

The Gondoliers Research Paper
Humor is an essential part of life. It makes the worst moments in our lives seem livable. Also
important in life is music because it simply allows us to enjoy a moment. A moment that can remain
infinite, in a lifetime of finite moments, but only if composed and performed correctly. With music by
Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert the elements of music and humor are effortlessly
combined to create a comic opera also known as a savory opera The Gondoliers (The Gondoliers
Program). The Gondoliers first premiered at the Savoy Theatre on December 7, 1889, and has become
a world renowned savory opera that is still frequently performed (Smith). This opera is infinite in that

Gilbert but it almost never materialized. Sullivan had said comedic opera had become distasteful and
he wanted to work on something more dignified (Smith). Luckily for the pair they did create The
Gondoliers which ran a total of 554 performances and was to be given a royal command performance
for Queen Victoria (Smith). The Gondoliers was actually the last great success for Gilbert and
Sullivan. The story of this light hearted opera concerns a complex plot in which there is a tale of love,
marriage, and of course mistaken identity. Two brothers, Marco and Giuseppe, are Republican
Gondoliers with very idealistic ideas (Smith). Just after Giuseppe and Marco become newlyweds Don
Alhambra informed them that that either Giuseppe or Marco is the King of Barataria and are to be wed
to the beautiful Casilda. Upon this news the new wives of the brothers, Tessa and Gianetta, are very
upset and promptly burst out in tears. In the meantime we find out that Casilda is in love with the
family servant Luiz. Casilda is upset as she did not know she was married as a baby and she is worried
she will not be able to love her husband. We then find out that the King of Barataria has been killed
and until it is determined who the rightful prince is the two gondoliers must jointly rule the kingdom.
To find out who will get the crown, Luiz is sent out to find his mother, the nurse of the prince as she is
the only one who can identify the rightful heir to the thrown. Casilda then arrives to claim her husband
only to find that both Marco and Giuseppe are married. Giuseppe and Marco are skillfully left alone
with Casilda but to add to the drama and comedy Tessa and Gianetta sneak in. The group then
discusses the complicated problem of who is married and who is not. The group is interrupted by the
arrival of Inez, the nurse if the Prince. She confesses that when she was caring for the Prince there

Refugee Crisis Essay
Refugee crisis is a global societal problem for two major reasons; it is causing great suffering to
societies across the globe. Among the sufferings, include unmet goals in life, death of civilians and
separation of families. The second reason is that it is slowing down global integration and progress.
The failure to resettle refugees condemns them to poverty and cuts them off from normal lives being
led by other people. The situation created is one where not every human on earth gets to enjoy equal
human rights just because some are refugees.
Solutions to the Refugee Crisis
To generate solutions for the refugee crisis, the existence of refugees cannot be wished away. If it
could, the first pursuit would be stability in countries that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the UN currently has plans to annually resettle 10% of the refugees. This plan has been
affected by underfunding since the rich nations are distancing themselves from the responsibilities.
The UN is greatly underfunded as it stands. The challenges notwithstanding, an immediate solution
that qualifies as a starting point is the resettlement of the vulnerable individuals among the refugees
(Tufekci, 2015).
The vulnerable individuals are people with special needs ranging from severe psychological trauma to
physical challenges. Torture victims need resettlement as soon as possible and put under therapy
before their mental state deteriorates. This group of the vulnerable also include individuals with
special medical conditions who cannot survive the conditions in refugee camps any longer. Statistics
indicate that presently, over 1.2 million refugees need emergency resettlement. This will also ease the
crowding at the refugee camps and set the solution to the refugee crisis in motion (Tufekci, 2015).
Adoption of a More Humanitarian Approach
As it stands, countries are handling the refugee issue from an economic point of view. Other countries
are more focused on national superiority that they would not help a dying person. Reports indicated
that thousands of people who were fleeing persecution in Myanmar in May 2015 suffered for weeks
due to reluctance by Thailand,

Australian Coastal Beaches Analysis
Coastal engineering is an increasing field of importance due to the growing population in coastal areas
and the trend of moving to coastal communities. Currently over 90% of Australians live within the
narrow and dynamic coastal fringe (Mariani Turner 2013). Approximately one half of the Australian
coastline consists of sandy beaches and it is projected that they will be the worst impacted by the
predicted global warming (Cooke et al. 2013). Increasingly, sandy beaches are being squeezed
between rising sea levels and extreme weather events on the seaward side and coastal infrastructure on
the landward side (Cooke et al. 2013). Erosion, accretion and retreat are all naturally occurring
environmental processes, however coastal development has

The Labeling Of Genetically Engineered Crops
Introduction: In an immense variation of ways, farmers grow their crops and keep them healthy and
ready for distribution. The need for a greater variety of healthy and resistant crop is consistently rising
as populations continue to increase around the world. Yet, agricultural food scientists have
manipulated the DNA structure of countless foods. One main concern for consumers is the use of
GMOs, genetically engineered crops. However, GMOs are very hard to find when manufacturers
claim to not have them in their products and also not completely healthy. To provide information to
customers, labeling requirements have been set up in many countries to aid international trade. In this
experiment we will test different foods to find traces of GMO including one that claims to not contain
GMOs. We hypothesize that the lettuce sample would not contain any GMO genes.
Material and Methods:
DNA extraction of samples for PCR.
Three samples were prepared: Soy bean with GMO, Soy bean without GMO, Lettuce, and Chex®
cereal. The food samples were crushed into a powder and separated. Next, 100 µl of Edwards buffer
was added to samples. For another minute, the food was then grounded. Then, 900 µl of Edwards s
buffer was then added to each sample and vortex. The samples were then boiled for 5 minutes and
centrifuged for 2 minutes. Next 350 µ of each supernatant was transferred to fresh tubes. 400 µl of
isopropanol was then added to the supernatant samples. The solutions were then inversed

Different Type of Budgeting Technique
Budgeting lies at the foundation of every financial plan. It doesn t matter if you re living paycheck to
paycheck or earning six figures a year, you need to know where your money is going if you want to
have a handle on your finances. Unlike what you might believe, budgeting isn t all about restricting
what you spend money on and cutting out all the fun in your life. It s really about understanding how
much money you have, where it goes, and then planning how to best allocate those funds. Here s
everything you need to help you create a budget using different approach.
(a)Incremental Budgeting
This is where the current budget and actual figures act as the starting point or base for the new budget.
The base is adjusted for forecast changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words Managers might have overestimated their requirements in the past in order to obtain a
forecast which is easier to work towards, and which will allow them to achieve favorable results. *
Does not account for change This method is based on the idea that expenses will run pretty much as
they did before. However, in business, this is rarely the case. There are always variables. * No
incentives Such a simple method of budgeting really does not provide your employees with much
reason to be creative. They have no incentive to innovate and come up with new ideas or policies.
When a budget allows a little extra room for innovation, you might find that your employees come up
with something great. * Use it or lose it Many employees view this as a use it or lose it system. They
know that next year s budget is going to be incrementally based on this year s. Therefore, if they do
not spend everything that is allocated to them, they may not have enough money to work with next
year. This creates an environment where waste is encouraged.
(b)Zero Based Budgeting this method was briefly popular during the 1970s but didn t quite make it as
a widely held practice. Yet in today s current business set up, the method is being revived and regarded
as the better approach.

Essay on The Myth of Sisyphus
The Myth of Sisyphus Sisyphus is the absurd hero. This man, sentenced to ceaselessly rolling a rock
to the top of a mountain and then watching it roll back down, is the epitome of the absurd hero
according to Camus. In retelling the Myth of Sisyphus, Camus is able to create an extremely powerful
image which sums up the intellectual discussion which comes before it in the book. We are told that
Sisyphus is the absurd hero as much through his passions as through his torture. His scorn of the gods,
his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in which the whole
being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. (p.89). Sisyphus is conscious of his troubles , and ...

In these essays Camus looks the problem of suicide. In a shocking, unnerving manner he opens with
the bold statement that: There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is suicide. (p. 3).
He goes on to discover if suicide is a real answer to the human who is unhappy with life. Or if life is
worth living now that god is dead? The discussion begins and continues not as a metaphysical cobweb
but as a well reasoned statement based on a way of knowing which Camus holds is the only
epistemology we have at our command. We know only two things: This heart within me I can feel,
and I judge that it exists. This world I can touch, and I likewise judge that it exists. There ends all my
knowledge, and the rest is construction. (p. 14) With these as the basic certainties of the human
condition, Camus argues that there is no meaning to life. He disapproves of the many philosophers
who have played on words and pretended to believe that refusing to grant a meaning to life necessarily
leads to declaring that it is not worth living. (p.7) Life has no absolute meaning. In spite of the human
s irrational nostalgia for unity, for absolutes, for a definite order and meaning to the not me of the
universe, no such meaning exists in the silent, indifferent universe. Between this yearning for meaning
and eternal verities and the actual condition

(Impact of cloud computing in supply chain, 2015) The difference between distributed computing with
individualized computing is that the cloud technology gives an extensive variety of capacities. The
usage of cloud built solutions depends on different elements, for example, the division in which the
business works; the practicality of porting existing parts on cloud, size of the organization, and the

Racism In Pecola Breedlove s The Bluest Eye
A common thought process that most people have been experiencing within the past decade is the idea
that racism is an occurrence of the past. This couldn t be further from the truth. Overall violent crime
has been declining since 2005, but the percentage of violent crime victims amongst the African
American population hasn t exactly followed this pattern. The percentage of violent crime victims in

Other books on the topic give us an important but at the same time an all too common view of this
subject. Digging into the novel we see a continuing theme where black characters are being put down
by white society throughout the book, and there are even instances where members of the minority put
each other down. This vicious cycle is a form of learned submission that Morrison s characters
decided to accept as a given way of life. An example of this submission occurs when Morrison is
giving us a coherent description of the Breedlove family for the first time in the novel and we are
blatantly told that they are ugly. Despite the fact that Morrison makes it extremely clear that the
Breedloves are ugly, she begins to make contradictions when she states that you [could] look closely
and not [be able to] find the source (Morrison, 39) of their ugliness. Morrison is trying to point out the
confusing rules that society s beauty standards are based upon. She starts to become more coherent
when she explicitly points out that some mysterious all knowing master [gave] each one a cloak of
ugliness, and they accepted it without question (Morrison, 39). This omniscient overlord that Morrison
speaks of is the power structure established by the beauty standards which we continually agree to
uphold because of the silent contract in our heads that is remnant from our ancestor s transgressions
against the Black community. Education is the only means of taking this contract and ripping it in two;

What Is The Tone Of The Road Not Taken
The Road Not Taken , by Robert Frost is a poem about a travelling individual who s come upon two
different paths leading to the same destination. He chooses one, but tells himself that if given the
option again he ll take the other path even though he knows it ll never happen. This poem in a way
talks about life and the choices we make.

generations of careless readers have turned it into a piece of Assay mark happy graduation son, seize

He knows that he will be inaccurate, at best, or hypocritical, at worst , when he clench his living up as
an example. In fact, he predicts that his future self will betray this moment of determination as if the
betrayal were inevitable. This actualization is ironic and sincerely pathetic. But the sigh is critical. The
speaker will not, in his old age, merely muster up the youth about himself and say, Do what I did,
kiddy . I stuck to my gunman , took the road less traveled by, and that has shuffle all the difference.
Rather, he may say this, but he will sigh first; for he might not believe it himself. Somewhere in the
back of his idea will remain the effigy of yellow Sir Henry Wood and two equally leafy tracks. Ironic
as it is, this is also a poem infused with the expectation of remorse. Its statute title is not The Route
Less Traveled but The Road Not Taken. Even as he brand a pick the speaker knows that he will second
guess himself somewhere down the line, or at the very least he will wonder at what is irrevocably lost:
the impossible , unknowable Other Path. But the nature of the decision is such that there is no Right
Path, just the chosen path and the other path. What are sighed for ages and ages

A Case Or Thought Experiment Where Act Utilitarianism Essay
Consider a case or thought experiment where act utilitarianism seems to give the wrong answer. How
do you think the act utilitarian should deal with this case? Act utilitarianism is a form of utilitarianism
that is derived from the greatest happiness principle of utilitarianism, which is defines as actions are
right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of
happiness (cite, got from lecture slides). Happiness and reverse happiness in this definition stand for
pleasure and pain. Act utilitarianism measures the net pleasure of an action. If this net pleasure is
positive, the action is morally right, but if this net pleasure is negative, the action is morally wrong. In
most situations, act utilitarianism is morally correct, but that is not always the case. In this paper, I will
explain how political power can be manipulated through the majority and minorities of a country s
population and how that can lead to the oppression of minorities, but also be morally right under act
utilitarianism. As mentioned above, act utilitarianism uses pleasure minus pain to determine the
amount of pleasure that will come from a certain action. If an action creates more pleasure than pain,
then that action is considered to promote happiness (Mill pg.). Act utilitarianism comes from the
philosopher, John Stuart Mill. This theory of act utilitarianism derives from the greatest happiness
principle. Actions that promote happiness is another

Identity In Joanna Gaines s The Magnolia Story
Joanna Gaines, the creative and super talented co star behind one of America s favorite home

identity while growing up as a bi racial child. She states, I finally believed it was actually a beautiful
thing to be unique and to be different (Gaines, 2016). The battle for identity is a real facet of life for
every human being. We must all come to terms with the fact that even if we exhibit similar ethnicity,

Of course that only seems possible if people look to God and not man, despite the condition of their
home environment and genetic makeup. David, the Psalmist, puts it this way, I praise you because I
am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:14).
David discovered his unique identity as one who God loved, and not only that, but he confidently
proclaimed his identity as God s wonderful work. What people must consider is that his family life,
friend life, and love life was not a cake walk. Actually, he encountered major hits and these hits
attempted to teach him an alternative narrative, or label him as something different from what God
said he was. He could have easily believed that he was an outcast or a problem, and therefore, he was
not worth love. Saul, his main persecutor, is an example of a relationship that communicated those
things to him. However, instead he chose to find his identity in God. He overcame by the power of
God s love even in the midst of turbulent environments. Truly, this seems to speak to the resiliency of
humankind and how we can overcome incredible circumstances like impoverished upbringings,
dysfunctional home lives, and poor genes, especially when we believe we are unique and beloved by
God. Besides

that they had a completely handover performance as a result of effective inter professional

whether I might have reflective practice skills like two clinicians when conducting a clinical process
appropriately in the inter professional communication environment. Although I could possess these

effective communication strategies in professional practice. Apparently, as a first year nursing student,
I have not sufficiently developed my ability to perform assertive and active listening skills like them.
As the pregnancy related stroke case is to threaten the safety for Sally and her baby, there should have
proper characteristics of teamwork communication to cooperate adequately. However, I could not

Age Of Art Research Paper
The Age of Art What happened in 1930? Several well known events took place in that time. The great
depression, the age of art, the Nobel Prize, and different types of films and superhero comics had been
written. Today I m presenting the age of art, print, film and radio. First I will explain print. During the
1930s was the great depression as well. American writers responded to this problem with multiple
stories. Some wrote about the social change, and some the American suffrage. Others documented and
decided to try and understand the nation in crises, but with a bleak view of it. These stories had totally
opposite vantage points. But with one thing in common. They all had the urge to describe the

place for some characteristics that actually cannot be achieved for. But still many people had tried to

The Effects Of Creating A Central Hub On The Griffith...
There would be positive and negative effects of creating this central hub on the Griffith campus. The
effects would also be split in to time frames, whether they are short term or long term effects. There
are going to be fewer positive effects in the short term but there will be more positive effects in the
longer term. The negative short term effects of expanding the library would be the congestion caused
by the original construction of the development. This construction would create traffic due to the
closure of roads near the site of the expansions. Positive short term effects could be the opportunity of
local students in Griffith University Gold Coast Campus to help with the construction planning or the
design of the expansion. The markets at night would also have some short term effects also creating
traffic problems throughout the campus. This would only create problems at the time of the markets
are being held. There wouldn t be any negative long term effects of the markets apart from the green
space not being able to be used on those nights for the future. There are numerous positives effects of
the markets being held at Griffith. The positive short term effects would create a steady income for
those involved in the markets. The markets will also help advertise local produce to the wider
community, supporting local farmers around the area and enticing local farmers to come down to the
campus and sell their produce.

Resolving Two Alternative Dispute Resolution
This paper is to critically discuss two alternative dispute resolution processes, which are the
negotiation and mediation. The importance of these two alternative dispute resolution processes is
mainly related to various noticeable benefits associated comparing to the traditional litigation process
(Ruh, 2015). Specifically, it is to discuss the different strategies for negotiation, which can be
applicable to the dispute between Johnny, Sally, and David. Thus, David is to be advised of the most
effective and efficient negotiation strategy he should use based on the comparison between different
negotiation strategies in terms of respective benefits and drawbacks. In addition, it is also to advise
David, Johnny, and Sally regarding the benefits and costs of using a mediator, in the context of the
dispute between them.
Negotiation is one of the commonly used alternative dispute resolution processes, where different
strategies can be implemented. Brett (2015) states that the determining goals would be a direct factor
to determine which strategy to be used. This means that the disputed parties should take into account
of the relative importance of substantive outcomes and relational outcomes in order to determine
whether the collaborative, accommodating, competitive, or avoidance strategy should be implemented
in order to help them achieve their goals (Brett, 2015). Therefore, each of the strategies is not suitable
to David s circumstance really depends on the particular goals

Oppression In Plato s The Jumping Bean

The idea of oppression is seen as a thing of pass and not relevant to current century. The funny thing is
that being is hard for people living a specific reality of life to understand the issue and its effects on
humans around them. You see many of us are like Plato describes as prisoners to a cave that is filled
with one perspective of the world of them. Instead of breaking the chains of society because we are
comfortable. Oppression is made of many different chains that are known as social norms that control
our ideas, beliefs, and even feeling. The Jumping Bean is amazing example of oppression among the
Chicano/a culture that is depicted explicitly through the eyes of the characters of the story. The reality
of the characters are being changed and challenged which is clouding their ability to see pass the

How The Rising Swedish Democratic Party Is An Acceptable...
It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie
in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance
between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several
other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway tend to rank highest in terms
of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between
themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher,
and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential
increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally
socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and
Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern
for quite some time in Europe. This paper will seek to establish how the rising Swedish Democratic
Party has aggregated decades of social desire within Sweden as well as a correlation between influxes
in refugees, international and national crises, and rise in anti immigrant sentiment. Socialist
democracies in Scandinavia were brought about in correlation with the Nordic model of governance,
also known as Nordic capitalism or Nordic social democracy. A prevalent system of governance since
the 1980s, the

Trojan Women Analysis
The Trojan Women was an eye opening escapade for multiple viewers. This play was written by Ellen
McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s Department of
Theatre and Dance. The cruel effects of war on the world is evident; however, most forget about the
heartache women behind the scenes experience. McLaughlin wrote a moving script that portrays the
struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry displayed an emphasis
on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women was not a play for all types
of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the viewer. Personally, this play is not
one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and the direction tied together interestingly
to make this production.
Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the
chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between women
that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through their actions
as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles complimented with
unique performers emerged from the rest. Hecuba played by Abriana Quiñones was breathtakingly
wonderful in capturing the audience when expressing the heartache of losing Troy. The weeping and
restlessness was raw and authentic. Andromache played by Bess Lawson made

Núñez Cabeza de Vaca. When the Spanish came, they spread their diseases to the defenseless Native
Americans that resided in Texas.
A Frenchman named Rene Robert Cavelier Sieur de la Salle explored Texas in 1682.

The first wave of immigration occurred between 1831 to 1869, many European immigrants especially
people from Ireland and Germany. By the time the Civil War came to an end, many Europeans had
immigrated to and populated Texas. In the period of the great migration, thousands of Europeans
immigrated to Texas.
In 1842 to 1878, Germans created an organization for German immigrants to attempt to constitute
New Germany at the borders of Texas, which was called the Adelsverein. It brought approximately
sixty thousand German immigrants to Texas. Affluent Germans created a society, in which they helped
farmers who didn t have enough money to buy farmlands. The Germans formed a German belt, where
they clustered in small communities from Houston and Galveston to Kerrville and into the Hill
Country.
The Germans affected the Texas Revolution quite a bit as well.
Some German immigrants lended a hand to the Texans, helping them with the battles in the Texas

Levinas vis-à-vis the Other Essay
Levinas vis à vis the Other
Philosophy, arising from its Greek tradition of a love of wisdom , seeks to critically examine those
questions most fundamental to humankind; it is concerned with essential concepts (or rather,
questions) of being (metaphysics), rightness and goodness, knowledge, truth and beauty. As a branch
of metaphysics, ontology seeks, in particular, to understand the nature of being (or existence) by
placing objects within categories and organized totalities, while always assuming God as the first
cause (causa sui). (Rebidoux) Yet as most philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Descartes each
attest to their distinct definition of being , there is an exception to these ontological contenders:

Before evaluating Levinas humanity opening theories, however, it seems necessary to understand the
process by which one can come to know the initial Other. For before the subject can enter into a just,
fraternal relationship with the Other, he must be wholly prepared to welcome its face. According to
Levinas, before encountering the Other, one is in a sleeping state within the Order of Being. Mundane
and superficial, this Order allows only for categorization and objectification of things. At this stage
even animate objects are reduced to their formal properties: a cat, for example, is classified according
to its genus and species, recognized only as one instance of cat ; a human, similarly, is reduced simply
to another instance of humanity. (Rebidoux, 26 Jan 2004)
It is from this state of perpetual sleep, Levinas orders, that one must awaken. Whilst sleeping within
the Order of Being, one is instinctually awoken by the Infinite. This Infinite, according to Levinas, is a
consciousness that occurs in revelation of the transcendence of the Other. (Rebidoux) The Infinite
emerge as an appearance of unending depth that overflows both

Influenza Vaccine
Influenza is one of the major causes for illness around the globe and vaccination is the best way for
controlling it. The licensed inactivated influenza vaccine includes antigenic components from the
three influenza strains which are chosen annually to match globally circulating strains of influenza
viruses.
The aim under this objective was to evaluate the humoral immune response to inactivated influenza
vaccine (IIV) in adults who were administered seasonal IIV for 2012 2013. The study was able to
identify significant differences in the antibody titers as B cell responses between different groups after
IIV immunization where one group receives IIV and other was given no intervention.
The routine monitoring of the immune responses usually

Functional Analysis Sociology
One approach is increment both the quantity of cops in neighborhoods and increment their association
with the influenced territories. Police officers are deemed in such a bad light that I think that if police
officers are seen in a sincerer light of being more connected to the community, they will forge a better
bond to the community links to the area and help to become a barrier in the war. While justice and
police have an important role to play, repression only is counter productive if not combined with
development interventions that look at the drivers of violence.

  • 2. The Importance Of Characters In Fifth Business In the novel Fifth Business, characters mark new chapters of their lives by changing their names. Names are used to identify people in society and they are a symbol of self. The characters, Dunstan, Boy and Paul all change their names, Dunstable to Dunstan, Percy to Boy, and Paul to Magnus. Despite the characters attempts to change their names and personalities, Davies reveals that people will always maintain their true identities. Throughout the novel, Dunstan plays the role of Fifth Business even when he embarks onto a new chapter of his life. Dunstan s major role in this book is revealing to Paul that the cause for his mother s insanity was because Boy threw a snowball with a stone in it that hit his mother. He says, Dunstan Ramsay counselled against revelation, but Fifth Business would not hear. Yes, guilt. Staunton and I robbed your mother of her sanity (Davies 263). In this quote, Dunstan claims that he is Fifth Business because he provided information that led Paul to kill Boy. Paul was always told his birth was the cause of his mother s insanity. Would this jog your memory? I asked, handing him my old paperweight. (Davies 264). Dunstan proves he is Fifth Business again by revealing the stone that was placed inside of the snowball. This is very important because Paul now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lavender Scare Essay During the Cold War disloyalty throughout the nation was something everybody was scared of and many government officials and police were taking matters into their own hands. One of the best examples of conformity and disloyalty in the United States is with the Lavender Scare. The Lavender Scare was a very extreme persecution of gays in the 1950 s, who were seen disloyal to the people and government officials of the United States because of all the terrible things that was going on with communism. Conformity was the basis of the Cold War because the United States was trying to find anybody who could bring harm to the nation. For example, if there was anybody who was not normal or from my understanding, perfect to the government, then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government, knowing very little about people and hardly any evidence would take anyone they thought was suspicious of anything odd for questioning and if they were suspected of homosexuality they would be fired right away. The government thought people who were gay were disloyal to the United States and made it so gay and lesbian people were without jobs in the state departments, which later started the Gay Rights Movement and till this day is still a very controversial topic. Not so much within employment in government jobs but more of people not being able to love and marry the people they please. Any person who was thought to be gay or lesbian were perceived as a security risk because they were thought of as disloyal to the United States and were discriminated against. People had a hard time distinguishing between political disloyalty and security risk. The security risk that the government thought a lot about was the fact that the gay and lesbian employees knew that it was an issue to work there but they hide it. They thought that if these employees could hide something like this from us, then they could possibly be hiding the fact that they were communists and if a communist would threaten to tell the government that they were gay or lesbian than they might tell communist what the government was planning to do to take down communism around the ... • 8. Using A Virtual Private Network VPNs By Samantha Fitzpatrick Prepared for Dr. Ford 30 April 2015 Introduction There is a growing need to connect to internal networks from locations other than the regular and secure office. Employers and organizations need to realize that employees often need to connect to internal private networks from home, hotels, airports, etc. A solution for this problem is using a virtual private network (VPN), which is a network that uses public network paths, but maintains the security and protection of private networks. Secure communication is expensive, but VPNs allow organizations to have a number of discrete communication services for a large amount of clients. It is cheaper to have a copious amount of virtual networks on a couple physical devices than having a copious amount of physically discrete devices accomplishing the same objective. Methodology VPNs transmit data through secure tunneling. A packet is first encapsulated in a new packet with a new header and then sent through the tunnel, which is normally IPSec, L2TP, PPTP, or SSL. Both points of the tunnel need to support the protocol used. To provide access to the internet, the packet with a private IP address can be sent inside of a packet with a global IP address. For security, VPNs use encryption to make sure packets are indecipherable without the proper keys, which provides data confidentiality. They also provide data integrity using a message digest to ensure the information has not been tampered with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are so many different options when a family thinks about going out to eat, especially if they have small children. It s often hard to go to a nice dine in restaurant because sometimes it s hard to find something on the menu for everyone in the family. I have experienced many things at two completely different restaurants. I can say Demos is better than Logan s because the food and service is much better. Cleanliness is especially important for women; no one wants to go into a restroom that has nasty, unsanitary toilets. Having a nice waitress is a big impact on a family s dining experience. Just after Giuseppe and Marco become newlyweds Don Alhambra informed them that that either Giuseppe or Marco is the King of Barataria and are to be wed to the beautiful Casilda. Upon this news the new wives of the brothers, Tessa and Gianetta, are very upset and promptly burst out in tears. In the meantime we find out that Casilda is in love with the family servant Luiz. • 25. A Case Or Thought Experiment Where Act Utilitarianism Essay Consider a case or thought experiment where act utilitarianism seems to give the wrong answer. How do you think the act utilitarian should deal with this case? Act utilitarianism is a form of utilitarianism that is derived from the greatest happiness principle of utilitarianism, which is defines as actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness (cite, got from lecture slides). Happiness and reverse happiness in this definition stand for pleasure and pain. Act utilitarianism measures the net pleasure of an action. If this net pleasure is positive, the action is morally right, but if this net pleasure is negative, the action is morally wrong. In this paper, I will explain how political power can be manipulated through the majority and minorities of a country s population and how that can lead to the oppression of minorities, but also be morally right under act utilitarianism. As mentioned above, act utilitarianism uses pleasure minus pain to determine the amount of pleasure that will come from a certain action. David discovered his unique identity as one who God loved, and not only that, but he confidently proclaimed his identity as God s wonderful work. What people must consider is that his family life, friend life, and love life was not a cake walk. Actually, he encountered major hits and these hits attempted to teach him an alternative narrative, or label him as something different from what God said he was. Although I could possess these characteristics as my personality trait, I realize that there is a gap of cognitive knowledge to meet effective communication strategies in professional practice. Apparently, as a first year nursing student, I have not sufficiently developed my ability to perform assertive and active listening skills like them. As the pregnancy related stroke case is to threaten the safety for Sally and her baby, there should have proper characteristics of teamwork communication to cooperate adequately. However, I could not manage my voice and body posture calmly, relaxed if I encounter this situation; moreover, I might have some limitation of conveying handoff professionally and confidently like James. It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway tend to rank highest in terms of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher, and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern for quite some time in Europe. As a branch of metaphysics, ontology seeks, in particular, to understand the nature of being (or existence) by placing objects within categories and organized totalities, while always assuming God as the first cause (causa sui). Before evaluating Levinas humanity opening theories, however, it seems necessary to understand the process by which one can come to know the initial Other. For before the subject can enter into a just, fraternal relationship with the Other, he must be wholly prepared to welcome its face. According to Levinas, before encountering the Other, one is in a sleeping state within the Order of Being. Mundane and superficial, this Order allows only for categorization and objectification of things. At this stage even animate objects are reduced to their formal properties: a cat, for example, is classified according to its genus and species, recognized only as one instance of cat ; a human, similarly, is reduced simply to another instance of humanity.
