Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Toni Morrison Analysis
Williams and Morrison: A Look at Female Solidarity Relationships between women are often complex
and ever changing. It is a universal truth that mothers and daughters, female family members and
female peers will have struggles, misunderstandings and complications. Female solidarity is a major
theme in many types of literature. Relationships between women are complicated and often emotional.
Toni Morrison s Recitatif and Tennessee Williams Cat on a Hot Tin Roof are prime examples of
literature that uses female solidarity as an important theme. Both deal with the relationship between
mothers and daughters as well as relationship between peer women. The characters of these women
are better understood when examining and analyzing these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She feels because she has children and Maggie does not, Gooper should inherit the plantation over
Brick. Instead of supporting Maggie during her struggles, Sister Woman makes derogatory comments
regarding Brick and their marriage. She spies on Brick and Maggie and reports what she learns to Big
Momma. Sister Woman uses her children as pawns to hurt Maggie, creating a big rift between the
women. Maggie does not help matters by terrorizing her nieces and nephews. She makes derogatory
remarks about the children s physical appearance and behavior in front of Sister Woman, Big Momma
and the children themselves. Their relationship is made up of contempt, malice and competition and is
the opposite of female solidarity.
The relationships between the main characters and their mothers play an important component in these
works. All three women, Maggie, Roberta and Twyla, do not receive any maternal support. There are
different reasons for the lack of support. Twyla s mother is mentally unfit to fill her role as mother
while Roberta s mother is physically unfit because of her illness. Maggie, however, lacks maternal
support simply because her mother in law disapproves of her. All three women look to fill that void;
Maggie by bonding with her father in law instead and Twyla and Roberta by bonding with each

An Investigation of Chemical Vapour Deposition of Graphene...
Graphene exhibits numerous unique properties, which have caused large scale research of the
material. For example, its charge carriers have zero effective mass (called Dirac fermions) and exhibit
ultra relativistic effects , therefore possess mobility s of up to 200,000 cm2V 1s 1; the material shows
the half integer quantum Hall effect and shows absorption of 2.3% of the visible spectrum of light .
Graphene of the highest quality and best structural integrity is acquired by mechanical exfoliation of
highly oriented graphite . As graphene produced in this method is structurally superior, it is used as a
reference and new methods are compared relative to it. However, although mechanically exfoliated
graphene exhibits low amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This phenomenon is a result of the separation of carbon from the metal carbide, which occurs at a high
rate upon cooling, in Ni grains and occurs heterogeneously at the various grain boundaries. Thus,
carbon can precipitate out of the grain boundaries, resulting in greater thickness of graphene at the
edges of a layer. However, extremely high quality uniform monolayers of graphene have been
deposited using polycrystalline copper foils, on diameters of up to 76 cm2,10. Raman analysis shows
that copper foils treated at atmospheric pressure, show up to 95% monolayer coverage, with 5% bi
layer or tri layer graphene10. These values are not related to the growth time or the rate of heating and
cooling. In addition, copper foils are relatively cost efficient and are etched simply with solvents that
are readily available. Chemically etching the transition metal is the best method to transfer graphene
deposited on the substrate, resulting in free floating graphene membranes.
Copper is used as it has the lowest affinity and solubility of carbon, as it does not form a carbide
phase, relative to Ni and Co . This is attributed to copper s filled 3d electron shell, possessing an
electron configuration of [Ar] 3d104s1, which due to its symmetrical electronic configuration reduces
reciprocal electronic repulsions. In addition, copper is able to transfer charge from the π electrons of
the sp2 carbons to the empty 4s orbital of

The High Cost of Stability in Aldous Huxley s Brave New...
The High Cost of Stability in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Conditioning the citizens to like what they have and reject what they do not have is an authoritative
government s ideal way of maximizing efficiency. The citizens will consume what they are told to,
there will be no brawls or disagreements and the state will retain high profits from the earnings.
People can be conditioned chemically and physically prior to birth and psychologically afterwards.
The novel, Brave New World, takes place in the future, 632 A. F. (After Ford), where biological
engineering reaches new heights. Babies are no longer born viviparously, they are now decanted in
bottles passed through a 2136 metre assembly line. Pre natal conditioning of embryos ... Show more

Babies receive electric shocks in the presence of flowers and books so that they will grow up with
what the psychologists ... call an instinctive hatred of books and flowers ... they ll be safe from books
and botany all their lives (Huxley, 18). The conditioning of the children forms a barrier in their minds,
so that they are never free to decide for themselves, but are always bounded by the instructions of the
state. Hypnopaedia is another form of psychological conditioning. It is used to teach moral education.
While they sleep, the children of the new world are drilled with moral education such as when the
individual feels, the community reels, [and] ...cleanliness is next to fordliness (Huxley, 98). These
phrases are repeated thousands of times throughout childhood till at last the child s mind is these
suggestions ... the mind that judges and desires and decides... (Huxley, 25).
Psychological conditioning in the new world is much like the television programs of today. The
programs repeatedly tell their obedient worshippers to consume name brand material and to follow the
lifestyles of the characters in the programs while the true masterminds slowly take away their devoted
members hard earned wealth. The psychological conditioning limits the mental freedom of the citizens
so that they are never at liberty to decide what they want

Grief Model
Facilitating the Grief Process After a Loss Grief is a complex, emotional process that involves various
forms of expression. Because of the nature of the healthcare industry, nurses and healthcare providers
are exposed to death and grief. Furthermore, nurses care for various diverse populations. In order to
help others with the grief process, it is important that nurses have a good understanding grief models,
as well as an understanding of the role that cultural variation has on the way people express grief.
Normal and Abnormal Grief Grief can sometimes be thought of as something that should be avoided,
however it is a normal process that allows individuals to process a loss. Leming and Dickinson (2010)
suggested that in a normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tasks of Mourning
There are several models on grief, however this author believes that one of the most significant is
William Worden s four tasks of grieving model. According to Leming and Dickinson, 2010, mourning
is necessary for all individuals who have experienced loss and there are four tasks of mourning one
must accomplish before the mourning process can be completed. These four tasks are as follows: to
accept the realty of loss, experience the pain of grief, adjust to an environment in which the person is
absent, and to withdraw emotional energy and reinvest it in another relationship. Worden suggested
that if the tasks are not completed, the individual will struggle to develop and grow (Worden, 1982).
This model has a unique application to nursing because it suggests that certain actions can be done
through the control of the mourner in order to facilitate the grieving process. Even more significant is
that nurses with knowledge of this theory will be able to help guide grievers through this process.
Accept the reality of Loss The goal of this step is to help the griever accept the reality of the loss.
While this can be especially difficult in situations where the death is sudden, it is important to
overcome the response of denial. Some of the ways in which one can facilitate this step would be to
view the body, attend the funeral, or to discuss the death and situations around the death (Leming
Dickinson, 2010).

The World Of World War II
World War II has been considered one of the worst things to ever occur in history. Violence, death and
aggression took place in the 1930s and 1940s in certain European nations. German leader, Hitler
played an important, yet a very big role during this time. With the rise and domination of fascism in
Germany and Italy, the goal was to maintain peace, established by the Treaty of Versailles ended up in
major disaster. World War II began with the poor economic conditions in Europe after World War I
and the confrontation of clashing forms of governments and in the end it brought about positive and
negative changes of the world. World War II began on September 1st, 1939 when Germany invaded
Poland; this invasion led to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, The Great Depression, and the
Holocaust. World War II began when Germany invaded Poland when Hitler tried convincing Britain
and France that the invasion was a defensive act by bringing living space for the Germans but Britain
and France was not convinced. Hitler gave orders for the Poland invasion to begin on August 26, but
on August 25 he delayed the attack when he learned that Britain had signed a new Long 2 treaty with
Poland, promising military support should it be attacked. ( Germans Invade Poland. ) World War II
had gotten more than 50 countries to be a part of the Allies who were against the Axis. These countries
were led by Great Britain, The Soviet Union, France, China and The United States. The Axis powers

Essay on Kierkegaards View on Faith
Kierkegaards View on Faith
Kierkegaard was a Danish philosopher in the mid 1800s. He is known to be the father of
existentialism and was at least 70 years ahead of his time. Kierkegaard set out to attack Kant s rational
ethics and make attacks on the Christianity of our day. He poses the question, how do we understand
faith? He states that faith equals the absurd. In Fear and Trembling , he uses the story of Abraham and
his son Isaac to show an example of faith as the absurd. The story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice
his son Isaac signifies a break in the theory that ethics and religion go hand in hand. He shows how the
ethical and the religious can be completely different. I by no means conclude that faith is something
inferior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abraham is known to be the father of faith. Abraham went beyond infinite resignation and made the
leap into faith. This is the peak on which Abraham stands. The last stage to pass from his view is the
stage of infinite resignation. He actually goes further and comes to faith (Fear and Trembling, 14).
Kierkegaard also revealed that to have faith, you must have passion which is not something we can
learn, we must experience it for ourselves. No general or universal rules apply to our choice of what to
believe. Whether a person has the right to say this must be his own decision; whether he can come to
an amicable agreement in this respect is a matter between himself and the eternal being, who is the
object of faith (Fear and Trembling, 21). Only the individual can decide. To him, faith was absurd
because you have to step out of your universal, surd self and make the leap into the absurdity of faith.
In conclusion, Kierkegaard decides that faith is paradoxical and completely absurd. He also concludes
that it has nothing to do with the ethical realm of reason and is actually much higher. In order to
perceive the prodigious paradox of faith, a paradox that makes a murder into a holy and God pleasing
act, a paradox that gives Isaac back to Abraham again, which no thought can grasp, because faith
begins precisely where thought stops... (Fear and Trembling, 22).

A tramatic brain injury or TBI is a injury that occurs when a unexpected impact causes the brain to hit
the inside of the skull in a accelerated motion. There are different types of tramatic brain injuries mild,
moderate and severe. Mild tramatic brain injury or mTBI is the most common brain injury. It is said
that about 1.7 billion TBI s occur in the united states each year. And of that number roughly 80% of
those are mild TBI s. (hyatt) TBI may be associated with a diminished or altered state of
consciousness at the time of injury and often leads to cognitive, neurologic, or psychological

The First Round Of Racing
AFTER THE first round of racing was completed, after the sun had set on the first day of the festival,
Rubio, Julia, Aurelius Falco and Alfidia and her two daughters, retired to the Domus Aurelia. Rubio
was rather weary from his injuries and wished only for his bed and concrete cubicle. But Julia was
having none of that. She prepared one of the villa s many spare bedrooms and had Rubio brought in,
so she could watch over him and care for him personally. He was bruised and body sore but would
recover in a few days, so said the Lageum s head surgeon. And once he was comfortably situated,
Falco brought in the stable medicus, and he too gave a favorable diagnosis; Rubio would be up and

When he finished, he rolled them up and franked them with his personal wax seal, then had them

a late night confab. Come hither, Buccio, Falco said, motioning to the empty chair in front of his large
desk. Take a chair, will you? Many thanks, Dominus, Buccio replied, sitting down in the chair offered.
I got your summons and I came right over. And I thank you for prompt response, Buccio. Falco poured
Buccio a cup of wine and slid it across his desk. Have some wine? Buccio took up the cup of wine and
took a little drink. Mmm... excellent wine this, he remarked, sighing pleasurably, suitably pleased.
Falernian, is it? It is. Falco nodded. Buccio reclined more comfortably, crossing his legs. I m surprised
you called me in so late, Dominus. This is quite unprecedented. Must be important, eh? Yes, quite
important. Falco clasped his hands in his lap and leaned back in his chair. I bid you, Buccio... he
began. What make you of today s calamity, hmm? Any observations as to why Rubio wrecked and so
soon after starting? What say you, my man? Alas, Dominus, Buccio replied, a grim look on his pudgy
face. Young Rubio was in a bad mood today before the race, as I recall. Nearly bowled me over when

Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds Analysis
Men have dominated and control the scientific world for decades. Men often thought that they were
the superior sex and that they had a better understanding of science and how to conduct experiments.
Many men regarded women as less superior because they believed that females did not have the
mental capacities and resources to understand how science, nature and the universe works and that
women are too emotional. However, through the founding of the Royal Society by King Charles II
women was slowly allowed to enter the scientific world, conduct their own experiments and published
their own writings. Through plays like the Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds by Bernard le
Bovier de Fontenelle and The Virtuoso by Thomas Shadwell it shows how ... Show more content on

The reason why science was considered a masculine occupation is because many men believed that
the male gender is better at controlling their emotions and separating their emotions from themselves
thus not letting their emotions cloud their judgment. However the common belief about women are
that they are a too emotional creatures who will let their emotions cloud their judgment and reason
thus not providing accurate results in their experimentation. But over time men started to see the
benefits of allowing women in the world of science. Females are better at observing animals and
plants in their natural habitat than males. Females are better at noticing the small details of plants and
classifying them into the different species and genus which made botany the perfect scientific field for
women. This was the first major step in changing the perspective of science as a male dominated field
to a more gender neutral field. Another major step in allowing women to join the science field came
through the plays by Fontenelle and Shadwell who both made their protagonist young women with

African American Women During The Civil War
African American Women
In American history there have been many truly extraordinary women. These women range from all
different time periods, races and other backgrounds. Over the years women have participate or become
involved in multiple different themes including: politics, midwives or physicians, inventors, literary or
arts figures, feminists, suffrage or equal rights activist, wealthy women, academics, fighters physical
or metaphorical etc. This paper will exemplify three special women, all the while providing
background, some life achievements and details of their last years. These women are Ida Wells,
Isabella Baumfree (A.K.A Sojourner Truth) and Harriet Tubman. All African American abolitionist
who fought endlessly for the civil rights owed to them as Americans, free citizens and humans.
Ida Wells, a woman born a slave in Holly Springs, Mississippi, before the close of the Civil War on 16
July 1862. Some six months later Abraham Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation freeing
slaves. Her parents, who had been slaves, were remarried again after freedom came. Her father, the
son of a pastor, had been taught the carpenter s trade, and mother was a famous cook. In 1878, at age
14 when she was visiting her grandmother in the Holly Springs suffered a yellow fever epidemic in
which both her parents and her 10 month old brother, Stanley, died of Malaria. With no one else to

The Theme Of Absurdism In The Stranger By Albert Camus
Arul P Saravanan
Ball
World Lit/ Writ
27 November, 2017
Too Hot For You
Albert Camus wrote The Stranger to express absurdism within society by having Meursault, the main
character, suffers many ordeals without showing any signs of pain or emotional suffering. He is
affected by his mother s death at the beginning of the story. The whole mood, sadness, and isolation is
the fuel to Meursault s behavior, his hunger, and his emotions. Meursault blames the sun for
everything. The sun symbolizes his society and how society has more expectations of him than others.
In The Stranger, Camus incorporates the sun to symbolize inability to cope with his emotions that
stem from his failure to meet society s expectations.
Camus shows many non physical aspects to express many emotions that drives Meursault through
everyday tasks. Similar to the sun, society is generally thought to be a positive figure. People usually
regard a good strong society that firmly establishes its members with a strong, unified code of morals
as something to be desired. These morals are what drives every single person each day through
difficult and challenging tasks. Morals of a society are what makes it stand out. In the same way,
people tend to think of a bright, warm, sunny day as something good and positive as in for a vacation
or a time to relax. However, both the force of society and the force of the sun can become
overpowering. When the sun becomes overpowering it beats down on the people, suffocating

Business and Climate Change
§ 1.0 Introduction
Although research on climate change is quite vague about the exact degree of warming and the
consequences for the natural environment, a wide range of impacts can be expected (Metz, 2011). The
temperature changes and the sea level rise, this has a negative impact on food production, water
availability, human health, biological environment and infrastructure in coastal areas. Vulnerability is
highest in poor countries where the changes will have a devastating effect. Metz (2011) states that
there is no escape from the conclusion that human beings are responsible. As a consequence, the

Furthermore, voluntary climate change policy will result in elevating UBS reputation (Hoffman,
2005). As stated before, a large percentage of society all over the world has concerns about global
warming. Different business units of UBS can benefit from this reputational aspect. First, private
investors who consider environmental strategies in making investments will prefer UBS Wealth
Management and Business Banking Switzerland above competitors such as Citigroup and Morgan
Stanley. Second, institutional investors as well as private clients will value UBS environmental
friendly reputation. Thirdly, UBS could broaden its scope by starting trading carbon credits. Their
reputation could help them compete with competitors such as Morgan Stanley that is active in this are
already. Besides their clients, UBS employees will be more motivated to work for a CR company
since they believe that companies should contribute to solve global warming problems. Therefore, a
green policy can increase the retention rates of skilled workers (Hoffman, 2005).
§ 3.0 Method to implement green policy
To become carbon neutral, UBS could adjust their company activities or compensate their GHG
emission. Besides replacing business travel with videoconferencing, UBS could manage their energy
use more effectively with the aim to realize carbon neutral buildings. First, concerning their buildings,

The New Destination Of Las Vegas

For the first time in years, the number of guest rooms in Las Vegas will grow only slightly in 2001 by
3,000, pushing the total to about 127,000. This modest 2.5 per cent increase from two years ago is in
stark contrast to the extraordinary growth rate of the late 1990s, when the Strip provided fertile ground
for a bumper crop of ever more elaborate hotel casinos, culminating in the arrival of the Aladdin in
summer 2000.
This latest wave of construction, and the numerous expansions and renovations of existing resorts,

Where to stay
If you want to stay on the Strip, remember it s a 32 mile (5.6 kilometre) hike from one end to the
other. You could spend a lot of time tramping from casino to casino, so consider whether you want to
be based at the north, centre or south. The more recent mega resorts are the most attractive places to
stay, but there are also older properties that retain a charm that hints of old Vegas. The cluster of
Downtown casino hotels do a good job with accommodation, although their dining options are more
limited than those on the Strip, and non gambling entertainment is practically non existent.
Of course, you don t have to stay in a casino. Off the Strip, in the area surrounding the Convention
Center, rooms are aimed at the business traveller and are generally unencumbered by noisy casinos,
while out of town, the Regent in Summerlin and the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas cater for visitors who
want to combine casino luxury with easy access to the golf course. Casino rooms offer such good
value that the budget accommodation sector is relatively small. In addition to the hostel on page 62,
there are any number of fading 1950s motels cluttering up the more unfashionable stretches of Las

Nature Of Human Nature
In Genesis the word of God leads humanity in the direction of self preservation, urging them to
procreate, to Be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 9:1), and to minimize hostility and violence among
people. As Freud asserted, Besides the instinct to preserve living substance and join it into ever larger
units, there must exist another, contrary instinct seeking to dissolve those units and bring them back to
their primeval, inorganic state (Freud 77). Genesis exemplifies the struggle between the two opposing
human instincts, with God acting as a moderator between them. Forms of justice are put into place in
an attempt to control these drives, one example being the proclamation that Whoever sheds the blood
of a human, by a human shall that person s blood be shed (Genesis 9:6). The ethics and laws that
develop throughout Genesis seek to prevent the crudest excesses of brutal violence but are unable to
control the more cautious and refined manifestations of human aggressiveness (Freud 70). Since they
cannot be completely eradicated, the scriptures instead play into the more negative aspects of human
nature, especially narcissism, and manipulate them into a force for conservation rather than
annihilation. God s guidance often comes in violent forms, punishing humanity for going astray of his
wishes or attempting to raise themselves up to god like status. First, in the beginning of Genesis he
attempted to control Adam and Eve by withholding knowledge, telling them that

Essay about How the Media Uses an Ideal Victim in...
In recent years, the subject of crime has become an increasingly important theme of political,
academic, and public debate. In particular, the media today is more focused on victims than it has ever
been before. Through media representations of the ideal victim , this essay will subsequently show
how the media are able to construct and re affirm pre existing traditional ideologies within the public
realm. In effect, this assignment will critically assess the concept of an ideal victim and show how the
media have used this when describing crime. In reference to the media s role, they have been
highlighted for playing a part in maintaining these views by portraying victims in a certain way
according to the newsworthiness of each story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term is often related with negative meanings of powerlessness, passivity, and some victims could
be even perceived as inferiors. It is also important to note that when the word victim is gendered, it is
biased towards the female sex. Therefore, assumptions that females are passive and weak also
coincide with the assumptions of victims. The alternative term survivor is sometimes preferred,
particularly by feminists, as it places emphasis on their strength and the severity of the experience
with crime. In addition, groups may also be victims; usually involving a type of hate crime such as
racism or homophobia.
In victimology, there are still many unanswered questions and difficulties to find patterns that would
easily classify victims, because nobody is exempt from becoming a victim. Nevertheless, some
clichéd views about victims are embedded in our society. For example, Christie (1986) describes the
idea of the ideal victim, which is, in fact a person who is easily given the status of being a victim.
Ideal victims are perceived as blameless, law abiding, usually female, vulnerable and worthy of help,
sympathy and attention. Walklate (2005) used the fairytale of little red riding hood to illustrate the
ideal victim ; young, innocent, female out doing good deeds only to be attacked by

The Next Generation Of Virtualization And Software Defined...
The Next Generation of Virtualization and Software Defined Networking (SDN)
The network infrastructure industry is evolving and following a path of first generation server
hardware to application specific servers to virtual machines. The second generation is migrating from
function specific network hardware to software based virtual functions. Now, software defined
networking (SDN) offers nearly infinite economies of scale by replacing expensive networking
hardware with software. SDN moves network control out of hardware devices onto a software
infrastructure, thus decoupling traditional hardware functions from closed proprietary software
thereby providing extensive agility to network and data center operators. One of the key enablers ...

As enterprise adoption accelerates. the market for open source SDN controller solutions has gained
tremendous momentum through Linux Foundation initiatives like OpenDaylight (ODL) and Open
Networking Operating System (ONOS). In particular, OpenDaylight has emerged as the second
generation of SDN technologies led by industry luminaries like Inocybe. Inocybe is positioned as an
effective way to deploy next generation software defined solutions. In effect, Inocybe helps CSPs,
enterprises and network operators to more effectively deploy, integrate, and manage Cloud, Internet of
Things (IoT), and 5G virtual networking solutions from the data center to the edge, at scale.
NV and SDN controller solutions create a logical connection between hardware and virtualized
infrastructure. By doing so, this enables CSPs and operators to simplify how they manage networks
and speed up the delivery of revenue generating services. In the past, CSPs and telecoms would
deploy expensive and proprietary hardware solutions from vendors like Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, and
Huawei to stand up traditional communications networks. Now, these same organizations can deploy
software based solutions, at scale, across standardized commodity off the shelf (COTS) hardware
which in effect improves scalability at a lower cost.

A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week. What is it about
this quote from General George S. Patton that some leaders are able to grasp and others cannot?
Throughout military history, untold number of plans have been developed and executed with both
success and failure. It is not the plan that moves entire Army s across a land mass or storms a country
s beach head, but the plan that is developed during a split second between rounds cracking over your
head that defines the battle at hand.
In today s Army, we as leaders have become inundated with having to know every little piece of
information out there that we have become afraid to make certain tactical decisions for fear of not
doing it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next day, the driver and I went out to the truck early just to make sure Murphy s Law hadn t
struck and everything was still set for the prisoner transport. We drove down a couple of dirt roads on
the FOB, less than a mile, and I found the NCOIC I was to link up with. He started off briefing me
what the timeline looked like and where I needed to be. My driver and I went inside to get the mission
brief, after we waited by the truck to be inspected. That s when the games begin. The Sergeant First
Class looked over our license and dispatch paperwork; that tarp that we didn t have just became a
problem I never foresaw coming. This SFC didn t think it was safe to put prisoners in the back with no
way to hide them. So, out came 1SG. Surely I figured she would be to say yes or no. I was sadly
mistaken because before it was over, I was answering questions from the Battalion Commander of this
unit. He explained that it wasn t safe to have prisoners being seen by the local populace, which made
no sense to me at all. I gave him a simple alternative to fold the seats up and the prisoners could sit on
the floor of the bed, thus not being able to be seen by other civilians. This solution didn t appease the
LTC because now the prisoners were not safe from a rollover. It took everything I had to not smart off
to him and say a canopy wouldn t protect

The Science Of Space Probes
Space probes are our doorway to the rest of our solar system, allowing us to find new information
about our universe. Space probes travel to other planets, moons, comets, and any other body in space.
Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are also traveling outside of our solar system in order to further explore. As
the space probes travel, and once they reach their destination, they constantly measure the
environment around them with extremely interesting scientific instruments. Many space probes have
been launched by NASA, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and each one has
different equipment based on what is intended to be studied. Five extremely interesting space probes

The Planetary Radio Astronomy (PRA) listens to radio signals produced by the sun and planets, while
the Plasma Wave Investigation (PWS) essentially works like the PRA, but only listens for audio
frequencies and frequencies slightly above audible. The last instrument is IRIS (Infrared
Interferometer Spectrometer and Radiometer), which actually acts as three instruments. It acts a
thermometer, measuring the heat objects emit, as well as, determining when certain elements or
compounds are in an atmosphere or surface and using a separate radiometer to measure the amount of
sunlight reflected by a body. All of these scientific instruments helped the voyagers study the outer
planets, and will continue to help scientists learn about interstellar space.
Despite the fact that both voyagers were built the same with all of these components, they are slightly
different. As mentioned before, different instruments for each probe are disabled or broken, but they
also had different missions when they were launched. Voyager 1 was supposed to study Jupiter,
Saturn, and Saturn s moon Titan. However, Voyager 2 was supposed to study Saturn, Neptune, and
Uranus. Both were later extended to study the interstellar medium. Voyager 2 was also launched after

Gender Norms In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
In the epilogue, the audience is reminded that the character Rosalind is played by a boy actor when
she says the lines; If I were a woman, I would kiss as many of you as had beards that pleased me,
complexions that liked me, and breaths that I defied not (Epi. 17 20). Based on the gender norms
during this era, this line would cause discomfort among the audience because the boy actor is saying
that he would kiss the men in the audience if he was truly a woman. During Shakespeare s time it was
okay for a man to have feelings for another man for a short period of time as long as he never acted on
it because this shows that the man has not yet matured. He will only truly mature into an adult when
he has taken a wife for himself and forget about

Who Is Responsible For Cleopatra s Downfall
Raina Rodriguez
Cleopatra
Being the most powerful person to rule an area is difficult, but to be female and to be the very last
ruler is even more troubling. Cleopatra, a name known to many, was an Egyptian ruler and last true
pharaoh of Egypt. Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt to the last dynasty in her family.
Many people have speculated what Cleopatra s ethnicity is, and she very likely has Greek descent and
African background. By the age of 14, Cleopatra had gained joint regent with her father and
eventually after his passing, gained joint monarchy along with her brother, age 10, and herself at the
age of 18. Due to ritual customs, she married her brother and then decided she wanted sole power.

Cleopatra had tried to create a rebellious uprising that had failed and caused her to flee. While in exile,
Pompey was involved in the Roman Civil War, and was eventually killed under Ptolemy s orders; this
was done so Ptolemy could get closer to Julius Caesar. Caesar was presented with Pompey s beheaded
head and was furious because he was the widower of Caesar s only daughter, so, he captured the
Egyptian capital in a rage. This capture meant Ptolemy was dethroned and he was the mediator
between Ptolemy and Cleopatra. Cleopatra had come close to Caesar, causing him to not annex Egypt
and instead help her reclaim the throne. Caesar eventually brought Cleopatra to visit Rome, creating
an outrage due to him being already married. Cleopatra and Julius had a son, Caesarion, who later
succeeded the throne along with Cleopatra. Eventually, Cleopatra went to Italy to build a base for
Caesarion forces, causing her to meet Antony. Antony s conquest of Armenia allowed Cleopatra

No longer a student, but reluctant to return to the Potteries, and what Vyse described as its stifling

decision by Vyse. The position of a modeller was open for Vyse at the Doulton Art Studio, Burslem.
Emphatic in his rejection, for him modelling in Burslem was out of the question. Vyse liked to boast
that he had once studied with his friend Septimus Bennett, the younger brother of author Arnold
Bennett. Later, Vyse would say about him scathingly, Septimus went back to work in the Potteries, not

In 1911, Vyse aged twenty nine, submitted three works to the Royal Academy, the maximum number
allowed under the rules prevailing at the time. Exhibition rules for works of sculpture were rigorous,
in ways unthinkable today. Figurative sculpture, the RA reasoned, was either well modelled or badly
modelled and its presentation within a certain format and genre, and was to be assessed on the quality
of its interpretation. Vyse exhibited a group work titled The Kiss RA1857, a sensitive study of a nude
couple caught up in an intimate embrace (see page 9). A second figure Aphrodite RA782, also a nude,
the whereabouts of this work is presently unknown. His final exhibit, was a portrait statuette of
Elizabeth Gurney Fry, RA1759 (1780 1845). Desmond Eyles, in his book Royal Doulton Figures,

fourth I am not against the use of morning after pills to help prevent a pregnancy from taking place.

Battle Of Midway Essay
Define the Battle (who, when, where) On June 4, 1942, only six months after the Japanese attack on
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States defeated Japan throughout a 4 day battle (until
June 7) in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. This battle s location was primarily
the island of Midway Atoll, which is roughly 1,300 miles northwest of Oahu, Hawaii. Recognitions in
part to major advances in code breaking, the United States was able to preempt and counter Japan s
planned ambush of its few remaining aircraft carriers, inflicting permanent damage on the Japanese
Navy. An important turning point in the Pacific campaign, the victory allowed the United States and

Scarlet Fever Essay
Scarlet fever is an infectious disease that has made itself prevalent throughout history. Many different
countries have been affected by outbreaks of scarlet fever in the past. In the nineteenth century, scarlet
fever was a serious epidemic, but with better hygiene and modern medicine, it is rare to see today.
Scarlet fever is a bacterial infection that causes a red rash on the skin. It is caused by a toxin producing
organism called Streptococcus pyogenes. This organism is rarely seen in well developed countries.
The age group it affects is typically six to twelve year olds, however; all age groups can have the
infection. The modern form of scarlet fever ...in children is now causing toxic shock like syndrome

If a pregnant woman catches scarlet fever her baby is not at a high risk. If the woman is near her due
date, then the infection would start causing problems and they would need to go see their healthcare
provider. Once the infection is gone, the person is now immune to the toxins produced from the
streptococcal bacteria. Children under two years of age have an immunity to it due to their mothers.
The treatment of scarlet fever is very important because it accelerates the healing process and reduces
any chances of complications that may occur. Unlike other childhood diseases, vaccination has not
played a role in reducing its toll. The microbe itself may have mutated into a milder pathogen, or
improvements in hygiene may have contributed (Lerner). Serious cases of scarlet fever are rarely seen
in modern times, but it is because the bacteria itself metamorphosed into something more
maintainable. In the nineteenth century, scarlet fever pandemics happened often and medicine to treat
it was limited.
In the 1800s, scarlet fever was a common epidemic that spread around quickly. In the nineteenth
century, scarlet fever was one of the most feared of all childhood diseases, with a mortality of up to
35% (Lerner). Scarlet fever was called the plague of the youth in the 1800s. The mortality rates were
the highest in the United States, Western Europe, and Scandinavia. Around ninety percent of the cases
were among two to eight year olds. It was focused in the more

Deoxygenated Blood Differences
The vena cava is divided into two, they are the inferior and superior vena cava. De oxygenated blood
travels through superior vena cava and inferior vena cava (or the coronial sinus). These are the large
vein that return deoxygenated blood back from the upper and lower part of the body to heart. The
deoxygenated blood means that the blood has very low oxygen because the tissues in the body have
used up the oxygen in the blood making the blood to turn darker instead of bright red.
The superior vena cava receives deoxygenated blood from the neck, upper limb and the head, while
the inferior vena cava receives blood from the lower torso and the legs. The blood is then send to the
heart.

Poverty Of The Wealthiest Country
Poverty in the Wealthiest Country
People often say that money cannot buy happiness. However, this statement is not applicable to
everyone. Bare minimum financial revenue is actually necessary to provide well being and happiness.
When the concept of poverty comes up, usually the first image in our minds is people living in
developing countries such as those in Africa; however, first world countries are not safe from this
issue. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 14.5% of the United States population are living under
the poverty line; that is, 45.3 million people struggling everyday to afford essential life items such as
food, healthcare, transportation, clothes, and housing in the world s wealthiest country (Income and
Poverty in the United States). Poverty has distressful effects on the poor as individuals and on the
society as whole. It poses health and financial hardships on the individual; and threatens the safety and
productivity of the society. The root causes can be classified into three categories; economic factors
being the primary, social and educational factors being the secondary.
Poverty is a serious issue that has been traumatizing and spreading despite the efforts being made to
combat it. Impoverished people suffer from the lack of jobs and education that would otherwise
improve their situation. They are subject to greater physical and mental health risks such as
malnutrition and depression. Children suffer the most; they are deprived from their basic

A Literary Analysis Of Atonement By Ian Mcewan
Atonement
Published in 2002 by Ian McEwan, Atonement presents readers with a story of love and war,
childhood and class, guilt and forgiveness (McEwan back cover). In this narrative, a ripple effect of
unfortunate events occurs after a thirteen year old girl named Briony falsely accuses someone of
raping her cousin Lola. Through the character s actions, the readers come to understand that one
cannot change the past, even if they seek atonement with the highest amount of effort. Ian McEwan
does an excellent job of presenting this theme by shifting through different perspectives, using
symbolism, and showing the metamorphosis of the characters, specifically in Briony. Over the course

The theme and truth is that there was an absence of atonement in Atonement (Pastoor 1) and the
recognition that one could attempt to achieve it, but might never actually get there. One cannot change
the past or justify one s actions in the process of obtaining atonement. However, one can try to do the
right thing and learn from one s mistakes, and even pass on those mistakes so that others do not
imitate them just like how Briony wrote about the consequences of her mistakes in her novels. She
was not selfish enough to give herself a happy ending by letting Cecilia and Robbie forgive her, but
she gave Cecilia and Robbie a happy ending. If Robbie and Cecilia are dead, as many readers presume
from Briony s statements, then let their deaths not be in vain through her stories, but if they are alive,
then it would be ideal for them to read her story and truly forgive her for this might be the closest and
only way to obtain some sort of

Pros and Cons of High Fructose Corn Syrup Essay
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Abstract:
High fructose corn syrup is a commonly used artificial sweetener in foods. High fructose corn syrup is
a hydrolyzed version of ordinary corn syrup, which is produced via a steeping process. It is so widely
used because it is both economically favorable and it helps to preserve food for extended periods of
time. However, the drawbacks of high fructose corn syrup include issues like potential obesity,
diabetes, loss of liver function, malnutrition, and cancer. The fact that the producers of high fructose
corn syrup can deceive people that HFCS is harmless makes matters worse.
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is an artificial sweetener commonly used in the United States. As its
name implies, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As corn will naturally ferment, it is bathed in water containing sulfur dioxide. The water is kept at an
elevated temperature at about 120 Fahrenheit for the 40 hour duration of the steeping process. George
Inglett indicates that during that time, the corn absorbs water, swelling to its maximum size, and
starches are loosened from the protein matrix (79). Soluble components in the corn are also removed
during steeping. The steepwater is often recovered, allowed to ferment, and used to make antibiotics in
its fermented form. The second major step is milling. After the steepwater is drained, the kernels are
sent to degerminating mills. Here, the kernels are torn apart and the oil containing germ is freed in
centrifuges. The oil containing germs are ground to separate the starch and gluten from the coarser
particles. These two elements are separated with centrifuges, and the extraction of water completes the
process of recovery. Finally, the starch and gluten are refined to make pure corn syrup. By extracting
different portions of the corn at different times, other products can be produced from basic corn like
corn oil, feeds, starches, antibiotics, and other sweeteners.
Producing corn syrup is the simple part of making high fructose corn syrup. It took the sugar industry
many years to figure out how to increase the fructose content and thus the sweetness of corn syrup.

the fact that most Natives were headband in the film, however, Indigenous people did not wear

Survival of Earthly Life Depends on Science and...
Running Head: SURVIVAL AND SCIENCE Nature Articles Name of Student School Introduction
The unprecedented upheavals in the environment in the last few decades cannot escape anyone s
notice. Widespread and increasing global pollution, natural disasters of unusual intensities in more and
more places, new and deadlier diseases, disappearance of animal and plant species, and disturbing
signs even in the skies are among these. Seven serious observers publish respective opinions on the
nature of these threats and recommend solutions. From their pronouncement, a common thread can be
gleaned. Survival of earthly life today largely depends on science and technology. Body At the current
rate of degradation, about 20% of the earth s surface is predicted to become extinct (Thomas et al,
2004). This was the finding of a study conducted on the effects of climate change in sample regions.
The prediction placed the probability of extinction in three ranges, namely, about 18% minimum, 24%
mid range, and 35% maximum. The investigated regions were the Queensland forests, Brazil for its
vegetation, and South Africa for its Proteaceae species. The authors predicted that climate warming
would add to other already recognized threats to global biodiversity. Loss of habitat is considered the
greatest threat to the species in most regions. The interaction between threats is also predicted to
produce the strongest impact of climate change. The affected species ability to take refuge in

when he sees Dorine, Tartuffe tells her, Cover that bust. The flesh is weak. Souls are forever damaged
by such sights, When sinful thoughts begin their evil flights. (lines 8 10) Tartuffe preaches the
importance of celibacy here. However, in the next scene, he contradicts what he tells Dorine. He
blatantly seduces Elmire and urges her to betray her husband. He takes her hand and presses her
fingertips (Molière 87) and places his hand on her knee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Molière s juxtaposition of Tartuffe s behavior in these two scenes enables the audience to clearly see
the inconsistency between his words and actions. Tartuffe s drastic change of behavior in the course of
two scenes produces a comic effect that is intended to satirize the kind of religious hypocrisy
embodied in Tartuffe.
Like Molière, Voltaire attacks religious hypocrisy. However, unlike Tartuffe, which embodies religious
hypocrisy in a single person, Candide focuses on the religious hypocrisy of entire religious
organizations. Voltaire believes that the priesthood of the Catholic Church and the Jesuits, in
particular, are especially hypocritical. The clergy tell people to follow a set of rules and moral codes
and severely punish those who transgress them. However, they themselves do not obey these rules and
codes. For example, some Franciscans and Jesuits are found to have syphilis

Michael Jordan Leadership Paper
Study of a Contemporary leader When sitting down and thinking about a leader that I wanted to write
about, and eventually stand up in front of people and talk about was a lot harder of a thing to do than I
originally thought. There are so many different types of leaders that people follow and are drawn to,
for so many different reasons. Whether those reasons follow a certain beliefs like that of cults and
religions, or if they simply follow leaders because they were just born with all of the necessary skills
and attributes that helps them relate to people, everyone follows a certain type of leader because of
their own personal reasons. This leads me to why I chose my leader to talk about in this paper.
Michael Jordan to me is one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t until his junior year of high school that Jordan finally won a game against his older brothers.
But even still, only standing at 5 11 as a sophomore Michael Jordan did not make varsity and had to
play on the junior varsity team. This drove him to work even harder because he was fully confident
that he could play with the older kids. Every single day after his normal basketball practice, Michael
would go home and worked on his game even more, day in and day out. This drive and determination
helped him get on the varsity team the next two years. He went on to average 25 points a game his
junior and senior year at Laney High School in North Carolina. Michael s senior year he received the
nomination to play in the McDonalds All American Team. Also during his senior season Michael was
offered a full ride scholarship by North Carolinas coach Dean Smith to play for the Tar Heels. With
Jordan having such a competitive edge, motivation, charisma, and drive he was able to become the
most important player on their team, and a strong leader for the players around him. During his time at
North Carolina, Michael Jordan led his team to victory in the NCAA Division 1 championship in
1982, when he scored a buzzer beater against Georgetown University to win. Michael Jordan was also
recognized as NCAA College Player of the Year in 1983 and again in 1984. Jordan also made his way
to his first appearance at the

An Historic Mega Event Such As The Olympics Brings Together
An historic mega event such as the Olympics brings together nations from all over the globe to
encourage young athletes by creating national pride, as well as celebrating sport. The first modern
Olympics was held in 1896, encouraging cities across the world to compete, and host the event.
Canada has hosted the Olympics three times in the past: summer in 1976 in Montreal, the Winter
Olympics of 1988 in Calgary, and most recently, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (Junyk,
2016). This paper will explore the costs and benefits of the possibility of Calgary hosting the Olympic
games. The position I take in the paper follows, Calgary should host the 2026 Winter Olympics, due to
considerations of past records of the mega event being hosted by ... Show more content on

Also, will public private partnerships play a role in building of infrastructures and upkeep during and
after the event (Mason, 2017b)? The next impact is tourist activity; how will an increase in tourists
help benefit the host city. A way the city can benefit from tourist activity is by implementing a soft tax,
known as a tourist tax. This tax may include a hotel tax and/or car rental taxes. According to Mason
(2017a), hotel taxes are used frequently in [the] US to fund major league sports facilities. If the host
city were to implement a hotel tax during the years leading up to and including the event, the revenue
gained could be put towards the building of infrastructures needed for the Games, and other costs that
may arise. The final impact of landmark events includes economic and sociopolitical factors; such as
using the event as a tool of economic development. This can also help to enhance the global image of
the city, therefore facilitating economic growth. All of these factors must be taken into consideration
when a city is debating on hosting such a large event.
Even though hosting the Olympics seem like a thrilling, once in a lifetime experience for cities, it also
comes with many concerns, which impact citizens directly. Some criticisms of hosting the games
include the threat of increased taxes, such as for the 1984 L.A. Summer Olympics, the increase in
taxes lead to a taxpayer revolt. Debts created

She makes derogatory remarks about the children s physical appearance and behavior in front of Sister Woman, Big Momma and the children themselves. Their relationship is made up of contempt, malice and competition and is the opposite of female solidarity. The relationships between the main characters and their mothers play an important component in these works. All three women, Maggie, Roberta and Twyla, do not receive any maternal support. There are different reasons for the lack of support. Twyla s mother is mentally unfit to fill her role as mother while Roberta s mother is physically unfit because of her illness. Maggie, however, lacks maternal support simply because her mother in law disapproves of her. • 3. An Investigation of Chemical Vapour Deposition of Graphene... Graphene exhibits numerous unique properties, which have caused large scale research of the material. For example, its charge carriers have zero effective mass (called Dirac fermions) and exhibit ultra relativistic effects , therefore possess mobility s of up to 200,000 cm2V 1s 1; the material shows the half integer quantum Hall effect and shows absorption of 2.3% of the visible spectrum of light . Graphene of the highest quality and best structural integrity is acquired by mechanical exfoliation of highly oriented graphite . As graphene produced in this method is structurally superior, it is used as a reference and new methods are compared relative to it. However, although mechanically exfoliated graphene exhibits low amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This phenomenon is a result of the separation of carbon from the metal carbide, which occurs at a high rate upon cooling, in Ni grains and occurs heterogeneously at the various grain boundaries. Thus, carbon can precipitate out of the grain boundaries, resulting in greater thickness of graphene at the edges of a layer. However, extremely high quality uniform monolayers of graphene have been deposited using polycrystalline copper foils, on diameters of up to 76 cm2,10. Raman analysis shows that copper foils treated at atmospheric pressure, show up to 95% monolayer coverage, with 5% bi layer or tri layer graphene10. These values are not related to the growth time or the rate of heating and cooling. In addition, copper foils are relatively cost efficient and are etched simply with solvents that are readily available. Chemically etching the transition metal is the best method to transfer graphene deposited on the substrate, resulting in free floating graphene membranes. Copper is used as it has the lowest affinity and solubility of carbon, as it does not form a carbide phase, relative to Ni and Co . This is attributed to copper s filled 3d electron shell, possessing an electron configuration of [Ar] 3d104s1, which due to its symmetrical electronic configuration reduces reciprocal electronic repulsions. In addition, copper is able to transfer charge from the π electrons of the sp2 carbons to the empty 4s orbital of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tasks of Mourning There are several models on grief, however this author believes that one of the most significant is William Worden s four tasks of grieving model. According to Leming and Dickinson, 2010, mourning is necessary for all individuals who have experienced loss and there are four tasks of mourning one must accomplish before the mourning process can be completed. These four tasks are as follows: to accept the realty of loss, experience the pain of grief, adjust to an environment in which the person is absent, and to withdraw emotional energy and reinvest it in another relationship. Worden suggested that if the tasks are not completed, the individual will struggle to develop and grow (Worden, 1982). This model has a unique application to nursing because it suggests that certain actions can be done through the control of the mourner in order to facilitate the grieving process. Even more significant is that nurses with knowledge of this theory will be able to help guide grievers through this process. Accept the reality of Loss The goal of this step is to help the griever accept the reality of the loss. While this can be especially difficult in situations where the death is sudden, it is important to overcome the response of denial. Some of the ways in which one can facilitate this step would be to view the body, attend the funeral, or to discuss the death and situations around the death (Leming Dickinson, 2010). ... • 7. Essay on Kierkegaards View on Faith Kierkegaards View on Faith Kierkegaard was a Danish philosopher in the mid 1800s. He is known to be the father of existentialism and was at least 70 years ahead of his time. Kierkegaard set out to attack Kant s rational ethics and make attacks on the Christianity of our day. He poses the question, how do we understand faith? He states that faith equals the absurd. In Fear and Trembling , he uses the story of Abraham and his son Isaac to show an example of faith as the absurd. The story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac signifies a break in the theory that ethics and religion go hand in hand. Abraham is known to be the father of faith. Abraham went beyond infinite resignation and made the leap into faith. This is the peak on which Abraham stands. The last stage to pass from his view is the stage of infinite resignation. He actually goes further and comes to faith (Fear and Trembling, 14). Kierkegaard also revealed that to have faith, you must have passion which is not something we can learn, we must experience it for ourselves. No general or universal rules apply to our choice of what to believe. Whether a person has the right to say this must be his own decision; whether he can come to an amicable agreement in this respect is a matter between himself and the eternal being, who is the object of faith (Fear and Trembling, 21). Only the individual can decide. To him, faith was absurd because you have to step out of your universal, surd self and make the leap into the absurdity of faith. In conclusion, Kierkegaard decides that faith is paradoxical and completely absurd. He also concludes that it has nothing to do with the ethical realm of reason and is actually much higher. In order to perceive the prodigious paradox of faith, a paradox that makes a murder into a holy and God pleasing act, a paradox that gives Isaac back to Abraham again, which no thought can grasp, because faith begins precisely where thought stops... The Theme Of Absurdism In The Stranger By Albert Camus Arul P Saravanan Ball World Lit/ Writ 27 November, 2017 Too Hot For You Albert Camus wrote The Stranger to express absurdism within society by having Meursault, the main character, suffers many ordeals without showing any signs of pain or emotional suffering. He is affected by his mother s death at the beginning of the story. The whole mood, sadness, and isolation is the fuel to Meursault s behavior, his hunger, and his emotions. Meursault blames the sun for everything. The sun symbolizes his society and how society has more expectations of him than others. In The Stranger, Camus incorporates the sun to symbolize inability to cope with his emotions that stem from his failure to meet society s expectations. Camus shows many non physical aspects to express many emotions that drives Meursault through everyday tasks. Similar to the sun, society is generally thought to be a positive figure. People usually regard a good strong society that firmly establishes its members with a strong, unified code of morals as something to be desired. These morals are what drives every single person each day through difficult and challenging tasks. Morals of a society are what makes it stand out. In the same way, people tend to think of a bright, warm, sunny day as something good and positive as in for a vacation or a time to relax. • 16. Nature Of Human Nature In Genesis the word of God leads humanity in the direction of self preservation, urging them to procreate, to Be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 9:1), and to minimize hostility and violence among people. As Freud asserted, Besides the instinct to preserve living substance and join it into ever larger units, there must exist another, contrary instinct seeking to dissolve those units and bring them back to their primeval, inorganic state (Freud 77). Genesis exemplifies the struggle between the two opposing human instincts, with God acting as a moderator between them. Forms of justice are put into place in an attempt to control these drives, one example being the proclamation that Whoever sheds the blood of a human, by a human shall that person s blood be shed (Genesis 9:6). The ethics and laws that develop throughout Genesis seek to prevent the crudest excesses of brutal violence but are unable to control the more cautious and refined manifestations of human aggressiveness (Freud 70). Since they cannot be completely eradicated, the scriptures instead play into the more negative aspects of human nature, especially narcissism, and manipulate them into a force for conservation rather than annihilation. God s guidance often comes in violent forms, punishing humanity for going astray of his wishes or attempting to raise themselves up to god like status. It is also important to note that when the word victim is gendered, it is biased towards the female sex. The alternative term survivor is sometimes preferred, particularly by feminists, as it places emphasis on their strength and the severity of the experience with crime. Gender Norms In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet In the epilogue, the audience is reminded that the character Rosalind is played by a boy actor when she says the lines; If I were a woman, I would kiss as many of you as had beards that pleased me, complexions that liked me, and breaths that I defied not (Epi. 17 20). Based on the gender norms during this era, this line would cause discomfort among the audience because the boy actor is saying that he would kiss the men in the audience if he was truly a woman. As corn will naturally ferment, it is bathed in water containing sulfur dioxide. The water is kept at an elevated temperature at about 120 Fahrenheit for the 40 hour duration of the steeping process. George Inglett indicates that during that time, the corn absorbs water, swelling to its maximum size, and starches are loosened from the protein matrix (79). Soluble components in the corn are also removed during steeping. The steepwater is often recovered, allowed to ferment, and used to make antibiotics in its fermented form. The second major step is milling. After the steepwater is drained, the kernels are sent to degerminating mills. Here, the kernels are torn apart and the oil containing germ is freed in centrifuges. The oil containing germs are ground to separate the starch and gluten from the coarser particles. These two elements are separated with centrifuges, and the extraction of water completes the process of recovery. Finally, the starch and gluten are refined to make pure corn syrup. By extracting different portions of the corn at different times, other products can be produced from basic corn like corn oil, feeds, starches, antibiotics, and other sweeteners.
