Post Antibiotic Future
Since the introduction of penicillin to the public in 1942, antibiotics have gained widespread use
throughout the world. The drug has allowed society to make advancements in medicine, increase
an individual s personal well being, extend life expectancies, and stop and prevent infections.
Antibiotics are one of the largest backbones to maintaining personal health in society today, yet
there may be a day when we are no longer able to depend on antibiotics to fight infections. In the
essay Imagining the post antibioticfuture , Maryn McKenna establishes the importance of
antibiotics to juxtapose how devastating life would be without them. McKenna first introduces the
origin of penicillinand antibiotics. The first known antibiotic,... Show more content on

By weight, eighty percent of antibiotics are used in agriculture to fatten animals and protect them
from the conditions in which they are raised (McKenna). Animals are given micro doses of
antibiotics, that is, a small amount of antibiotics to prevent diseases from occurring. This micro
dosage amount allows for mutation that Fleming described. The routine use of antibiotics in
agriculture has led to [sixty five] percent of chicken breasts and [forty four] percent of ground beef
to house bacteria resistant to tetracycline . Additionally, [eleven] percent of pork chops carried
bacteria resistant to five classes of drugs (McKenna). These bacteria then spread from animals to
the humans who eat them, causing humans to get infections which cannot be treated. The issue
isn t as simple as ceasing to give antibiotics to animals. Most animals raised for consumption live
in an environment ripe for infections and diseases to spread. Instead of giving the animals more
room to live, the majority of farmers opt to give the animals antibiotics. For cattle, This prevents
diseases and death to the immature weaned calves and cattle which saves the rancher both time
and money passing on the savings to the consumers. In a free market society higher prices tend to
not go well. However, if antibiotics became useless farmers would have to [enlarge] barns, [cut]
down on crowding, and [delay] weaning , which ultimately would increase the costs of raising

Philips Versus Matsushita s Strategic Capability
Philips versus Matsushita
Thomas Edison State College
Abstract
Carefully read Case 4 1, Philips versus Matsushita, on pp. 331 347 of the Transnational Management
textbook. Consider the organizational development of each firm and its implications on that
company s strategic capability.
What do you think of the change each company has made to date the objectives, the competencies,
and incompetencies? What strategic impediments and disabilities did each bring to the
organizational dynamics? What recommendations would you make to each organizational leader?
Philips versus Matsushita Philips and Matsushita have over one century long history. Philips is
based in the Netherlands and Matsushita based in Japan. Both based in fairly small countries and it
was not long before they went global. Both of them can say that they had the ups and downs. They
went through World War II and survived it. During their century in business survived the economic
down turns. In general, Philips built its tenured success on a portfolio of responsive national
organizations. On the other hand, Matsushita based its global strategy on a centralized and efficient
operation through Japan. As they developed and reorganized their international strategies, each
company was forced to undertake its strategic posture and restructuring as its competition position
fell. In the past few decades technology changed rapidly and at the same time strategies for both
companies at the same time. To

The Miami Vice Fad
Regardless of when this question has been posed to me, without giving much thought I quickly
revert to the late eighties, and the Miami Vice fad. It is unfortunate that I cannot say with
certainty, just how widespread, the fad was, or now that I review, whether, the fad was a fad or a
trend, because, I don t know exactly how long the popularity of this style began. Per Bruce Cohen
(2013) a fad is something that spikes and wanes, where a trend sort of simmers and gradually
becomes popular.
I recall receiving a shipment of suits, regardless of the owner s intent for the suit, I immediately
envisioned the Miami Vice look, which included a variation of Stacy Adams footwear, and short
sleeve tee shirts. My first sale of the ensemble interrupted my completing the actual display; and the
sales continued. I can literally say that repeat sales were made from that purchase as one told a
friend, and so, on, and so on. I was impressed, excited and amazed at the demand.
Again, I can only speak for the success of the shop where I was ... Show more content on

There were attempts to push the envelope at times in attempts to gain even bigger bargains to the
sale price.
Finally, the usual shortage where we scrambled to meet demand, turned to surplus, which moved us
to either return suits to the main store, or to shop around to find which store(s) continued to
experience the demand.

A Letter To Harvey Milk Summary
The topic of the Holocaust is a broad and gruesome one; maybe it is because of the horrors that
happened that people still write about it, to try to understand what happened, and how it did.
Regardless, Elie Wiesel explains why he, as a Holocaust survivor, writes within his essay Why I
Write: Making No Become Yes . He writes that perhaps it is ...in order not to go mad. or to touch
the bottom of madness. These two possible reasons are quite different from each other, yet they
share a similar topic, this is similarly true about Elie Wiesels essay and Harry Weinberg s short
story A Letter to Harvey Milk The similarities and differences in these two works shows the

Pretty In Pink Character Analysis
1.Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful are two films both written by John Hughes and
directed by Howard Deutch. They depict themes similar to that of The Breakfast Club. Central
themes such as class and popularity along with secondary themes of angst, love, self discovery,
fitting in, and the need to connect with others are prevalent throughout both of these films. Pretty in
Pinkis a prime example for the depiction of class and popularity. Its strong main characters,
Andie and Blane, contrast in both of these categories and they develop into deeper story lines as
the movie progresses. Class is a strong theme throughout the entire film and is presented in
unforgettable scenes. Everyone is nervous walking into their first big high school house party, but
the look on Andies face as her and Blane walk through the door is unforgettable. Clearly someone
of a different social status, Andie, a true fashion icon, dresses how she desires but sticks out like a
sore thumb amongst the upper class teens. No one can forget the iconic line, Nice pearls. This isn t
a dinner party, honey , uttered at Andie in this scene. The clear and evident vulnerability of Andie
shows just how uncomfortable she is in this setting along with the guiltiness of Blane for having
brought her there. Class divides their two worlds and creates conflict throughout the film. A
secondary theme that is very popular and might be controversial in the ending is love. Notable with
John Hughesfilms are

Universities Must Continue with the Race-sensitive...
Newspaper headlines and public forums demand educational reform with growing frequency. Race
sensitive admissions policies are often at the center of these debates. For example, according to the
Los Angeles Times on March 21, 2001, the Los Angeles Community College district trustees are
scheduled to vote for a resolution to support the University of California s move to reinstate
affirmative actionin its admissionspolicies. This reinstatement has visible student support as seen in
the March 15, 2001 rallies at the UC Regent s meeting in which over 1,000 supporters of
affirmative action came out to voice their opinion. This activity closely follows two other perceived
victories for affirmative action proponents when two recent court... Show more content on

These types of arguments are a disservice to both sides.
As tensions surrounding race sensitive admissions continue to grow, proponents of eliminating race
based policies are gaining momentum. A conservative political climate, as seen in the mandates
for race neutrality in California and Washington and a recent court decision (Hopwood v. State of
Texas), which significantly limits the use of race as criteria for admissions in three states, fuel this
charge. Although race sensitive admissions policies are still widely used, a vocal opposition has
destabilized the foundation on which these practices are based (Tierney, 1997).
Arguments against race sensitive admissions overlap and work in concert with each other. Four
main charges encompass many of these seemingly disparate complaints into clear areas of
discussion: (1) a moral argument which charges that society should be colorblind; (2) an
economic charge that argues race based policies admit unqualified students, creating a financial
burden for institutions; (3) a charge of social Darwinism which argues that race based policies do
not allow for normal selection process; and (4) a political charge which questions whether policies
effectively service society. In order to establish a position on the issues of race sensitive admissions

The Incredibles Analysis
The Incredibles(Bird, 2004), while more progressive in its message than previous Disney projects,
fails to fully embrace progressive ideas in its characters or how they affect the story. The
Incredibles when seen through its adherence to gender roles and inability to put real influence in its
female characters removes possible story strength when given to a female audience when put in
comparison with the story structure of Frozen(Buck Lee, 2013). In Frozen, the two most influential
characters are women and sisters in contrast to the focus being put on the patriarch of the family.
Some may look at The Incrediblesas equally as progressive as Frozen given the family dynamic
changes to put a more equal weight of responsibility across genderlines, and allows the female
characters to show strength while the male characters can show weakness. When compared to
Frozen, The Incredibles does not fully embody progressive ideals. This is primarily due to the
differing family dynamics in each film and the dependence on patriarchal characters for substantive
plot development in The Incredibles. In comparing these two movies, one can clearly see that the
ways these families interact is a symptom of the progressive nature of the film with Helen doing no
evolution towards progressive ideals, and much development happening throughout the film in
Frozen. After the superheroes are outcast, Helen turns to the life of a stay at home mom, this
backtracks from her status as a powerful female

Theme Of Survival In Life Of Pi
Survival is the key to any species continuing to exist, many of us manage to jeopardize our state
of well being to sustain ourselves, resulting to violent motives and immoral urges. In the novel
Life of Pi by Yann Martel, character Pi Patel stranded at sea, accompanied by animals due to a
ship sinking that serves as the main purpose of the book is a great representation of the
hardships a person goes through in order to survive. By viewing through the perspectives of
how all animals are dangerous by nature, the cruel acts men will do in order to live, and
overlooking individual morals, Pi reveals that in a life or death situation, survival will always
overshadow one s humanity. This close analysis of the theme of survival proves that it has a big
role in our everyday lives, as when our life is being threatened, there are no limits an animal will
go in order to survive. One of the first ways Pi proves how survival outweighs humanity is
through his observation that all animals are dangerous by nature. For example, Pi s father
addresses to never get comfortable around animals and says Life will defend itself no matter
how small it is. Every animal is ferocious and dangerous (Martel 41). This is a pivotal moment
for Pi, as even though some animals may seem harmless, they can instantly turn into a savage due
to their genetically hard wired behaviours when feeling threatened. Moreover, Pi s father decided
to prove a point as to how dangerous the animals can be by

Analysis Of Concord, By Jakob Andreae And Martin Chemnitz
The book of Concord, or Concordia , lays out the beliefs and theology of the Lutheran Church. It
was officially put together as of 1580, or late 16th century in order to put a stop to religious
controversy after the death of Martin Luther in 1546. This book was written by a group of
theologians led by Jakob Andreae and Martin Chemnitz. This book was intended to grasp all of the
prefaced doctrines and beliefs and to put together the Lutheran Church as we know it today. It opens
with a preface, and then goes into three past creeds that establish what a Christian is, then followed
by the Ausburg Confession, Which is the literal written out beliefs of The Lutheran Church.
Inside of the Ausburg confession, there are 28 articles, including a preface and a conclusion,
though only the first 21 are actual chief articles of faith, the other 7 speak of abuses of power.
Article 1 is about how the Lutheran church sees God as a whole, believing in the Triune God and
reject other interpretations regarding the nature of God.
Article 2 speaks of sin, how since the fall of Adam, all men (and women) are born into sin without
the fear of God, without trust in God and with strong desires to please oneself, and that even now
we are dead to sin, unless saved through being born again through babtism and the Holy Ghost.
Article 3 speaks on their beliefs in Jesus, or the Son of God. They believe that the Word did assume
human nature in the womb of Mother Mary, but also kept his divine holiness,

Teen Suicide In The Pact By Jodi Picoult
The Pact by Jodi Picoult perfectly describes a typical high school romance. The story accurately
creates a scene straight from a teen s mind. The book is based on two teens Emily and Chris, who
are in love, a love so strong they are willing to die for, or rather with each other. Emily and Chris
create a suicidepact together, but since only one of teens, (Emily) is actually suicidal, and when
the gun only kills one, the question of suicide or murder, stirs in the air. One of the most
controversial points among the friends and family of the now deceased Emily is that no one knew
of Emily s suicidal intentions, mainly because she did not express the common symptoms of a
depressed person. This book addresses the important struggles and issues teens commonly face in
today s society, ie. suicide, depression, stress and growing up. The Pactmay seem like a
devastatingly tragic story of two teens, but most do not realize how this is a reality for most of the
today s young generation. The article Teen suicide by the American Academy of Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry. Shows the heart aching facts and scary truths of teen suicide and
depression. The article gets into the mental disorder and creates more depth and truth to what
character Emily Gold might have been going through in the book. The Pact by Jodi Picoult and
article Teen Suicide by the American Academy Of Child And Adolescent Psychiatry, expresses how
suicide and depression can be an undetectable tragic reality.

Technical Writing And Creative Writing
Many people are unaware that there are many different types of writing. Writing is used in a wide
variety of different subjects. Some people think that left part of the brain is used for technical
writing and the right side is used for creative writing (Patel). Technical writing is used in the fields
of science, engineering, technology and the health sciences (Nordquist). Creative writingis used in
novels, poems, epics, short stories, screenplays, songs, television scripts, etc. (YourDictionary).
Although they have some minor similarities, the differences between Technical writingand Creative
writingare clear.
Technical Writing Background Technical writing is used in the professional world and is always
non fiction. It helps to provide clear communication so that the contents are completely understood.
Technical writing helps to put your ideas out on the table so that they may be considered. The only
way that you can get patents is by providing exactly what your invention does, so you must be able
to communicate clearly so you can receive a patent. The Society for Technical Communication
(STC) offers this definition of technical writing: the process of gathering information from experts
and presenting it to an audience in a clear, easily understandable form. (Nordquist). The biggest
difference between technical communication and the other kinds of writing you have done is that
technical communication has a somewhat different focus on audience and purpose.

Informative Essay On Badgers
HOW AND WHY WI. BECAME THE BADGER STATE
By:Carlos Sanchez
Credit: EKK!
Date: October 23rd, 2016
Badger intro
Have you ever wondered how Wisconsin became the badger state and why most of our teams are
named after our state animal.Well, the reason why we are known as the badger state is because back
in Wisconsin s history, all the way back to the 1800 s, miners dug tunnels into hillsides as they
searched for lead and then lived in the holes they made during the winter months to keep warm.
This reminded people of badgers and that is how Wisconsin became known as the badger state.
Badger Background
The badger is 9 inch long from head to tail, 9 26 pound, black and white , member of the weasel
family. Weasels are small, slender, carnivorous,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Badgers can readily dig rodents out of burrows but cannot run them down readily. Coyotes, on the
other hand, can readily run rodents down while above ground, but cannot effectively dig them out
of burrows. When badgers and coyotes hunt in the same area at the same time, they may increase
the number of rodents available to the other. Coyotes take advantage of rodents attempting to
escape from badgers attacking their burrows and it has been demonstrated that coyotes benefit from
the association. Badgers and coyotes tolerate each other s presence and may even engage in play
behavior.
Importance of Badgers
They are our state animal and are able to help balance the population of small animals.
They also have some predators that can depend on them for a food source like golden eagles,
cougars, and bobcats.
The badgers are also able to provide good shelter for other animals after they move to a different
location.
CONCLUSION:
Badgers spend 90 percent of their time deep underground so if you see a badger you should
treasure seeing them since they rarely come out of their dens. But if you get close to one you
should run cause they snarl, growl showing off their teeth ,and if threatened enough they can give

The Year Of The Flood
In Margaret Atwood s novel The Year of the Flood, several saints are mentioned during Adam
Ones speech for Pollination Day namely Saint Suryamani Bhagat of India, among so many others,
because of her contributions to forest preservation (Atwood 276). Atwood may have chosen to
incorporate Bhagat, an environmental activist, as a saint in her novel considering that The
Gardeners had devoted this festival to the mysteries of plant reproduction, especially that of those
wondrous trees, the angiosperms, with special emphasis upon the Drupes and the Pomaceous
Fruits which matches with the work Bhagat has been undertaking to counter climate
change(Atwood 276). Although more than half of Suryamani Bhagat s life is still before her,
extrapolating from her current and past deeds it can be anticipated that she will continue to stand
as a servant of God due to her immense beliefs and rigorous efforts to combat deforestation for the
welfare of the community; live a life of heroic virtue as she fights to preserve her culture and
property rights of her people; remain praised and idolized in her community for her
accomplishments and facilitate yet more miracles such as obligating the government to accept,
honor and fulfil the demands of her tribeas well as facilitating the astonishing increment in female
literacy in the area; for those reasons, in addition to the fact that Bhagat also mirrors the
characteristics of the gardeners and shares a similar background story with Toby, Margret

Similarities Between The Poem And The Silver Thhread By...
I found that my favorite poems from the class are about nature. Poems about nature related the
most with me because I find them calming and relaxing. While The Silver Thread by Afaa
Michael Weaver and Fall Song by Mary Oliver share similar themes and styles of writing, The
Silver Thread is more connected to my life because of my past experiences and the more detailed
imagery that it contains throughout the poem.
Both poems share a theme involving the beauty of nature. The Silver Thread focuses on the
scene of a stream, while Fall Song emphasizes the Fall season. The scene in The Silver Thread
shows how nature blends with modern life and civilization when it says, the stream disappears
under a bridge made by men so trucks can crawl back and forth over this road of dirt with its one
row of grass. This image of a man made bridge over the naturally occurring stream shows a
balance in the world between the world s now complicated aspects of life and the simplicity of
nature which remains straightforward. I can appreciate the balance represented in this poem
because I also try to balance the stresses of life with the beauty of nature. The elegance of nature,
which would be hard to recreate. Nature s simplicity gives people a sense of calmness even in bad
times.
The Silver Thread connects with me better than Fall Song because it relates more to my life.
Weaver s poem shows more modern aspects of life, such as the bridge over the water. Because
he includes more modern aspects, it is much easier to establish a clear image from his
description and imagery. My experiences in life have supplied me with many images matching
the description of this stream and bridge. While I have also experienced the Fall season, I do not
remember any specific scene from it. The Silver Thread also contains deeper meanings about life
within it. It says, while up ahead a curve hides tomorrow from our crystal ball. This is a good
metaphor for life, because people can never be sure what the future hides. Anything could be
around the corner in life or the river. Fall Song also speaks about time when it says, unmattering
back from the particular island of this summer, this Now, that now is nowhere except underfoot.

Alfred Thayer Mahan s seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660 1783,
published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although he is a revered military
theorist, Mahan was criticized for not being a systematic. For example, he failed to consider
social and cultural conditions in the rise of sea power; the rise of the English middle class,
American agrarian discontent, and the rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the
term sea power, of which he claimed to have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea
power do start to emerge. Firstly, the command of the sea through naval superiority and second,
that combination of maritime commerce, overseas possessions, and privileged access to foreign
markets that produces national wealth and greatness. Mahan also theorized that a naval fleet should
never be divided and that victory at sea is only possible by fleet concentration, his most important
principle in naval warfare.
During the time of Mahan s publishing, the United States was beginning to change its views on
warfare. After the Civil War, US militaryleaders had more time to devote to studying ... Show more

Pangloss World View In Voltaire s Candide
Throughout Voltaire s story of Candide, Pangloss world view is frequently brought into
question. Pangloss believes that the world that they live in is the best of possible worlds. He
believes that this is the case because God himself created this world. Throughout the story
Candide struggles and goes back and for the between whether or not he believes in Pangloss
view of the perfect world or not. His view is very reminiscent of the idea of fate and that all
things happen for a reason. While this may not be exactly what he meant, the way that all of the
events seem to be connected and turn into something good one way or another, closely relate to the
idea of fate. While in the end both Candideand Pangloss agree that they do live in the best possible
world, there are times when they both struggled with whether or not that was actually the case. This
was especially true for Candide who was constantly doubting Pangloss due to some event and then
seeing the truth in Pangloss words when a different event would occur.... Show more content on

Differences Between the Birds the Movie and the Birds...
The Birds The Birds, the movie was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and was based on the short
story The Birds written by Daphne du Murrier. If you would have read the book and then
watched the movie, you would see that very few things are the same. In both the short story and
the movie flocks of gulls, robins, crows, and sparrows join each other. This is really weird
because different species of birds never work together. The story and the film both have the same
climate. It is cold and chilly; the ground is frozen and it will be a black winter. The climate gives
the versions of the story a creepy and suspenseful feeling. Each version also has the main characters

and a man, and the man s mother and younger sister. In the film, it shows more of the school and
the children then it does in the short story. The radio is also more involved in the short story
then it is in the film. More events happen in the film, such as the fire at the gas station and the
restaurant. The film shows more details then the short story and helps you visualize the attacks

Brahms’ Brahms’ Brahms’ Third Third Third
Brahms Brahms Brahms Third Third Third
In his early days, Brahms was attracted to the traditional form of classical music specifically
Beethoven and Haydn. When the original form of the symphony was created, many composers
tried to follow and fit the same mold. In this third symphony from an older Brahms, we see that he
fits this mold by having this symphony divided into a fast slow minuet fast. Just years before
Brahms wrote his first symphony, he was declared as the heir to Beethoven. This obviously had
pressure on Brahms at that point in his life, therefore he had to shift from a more traditional form
of writing to making it original as shown in this third symphony even though he followed
Beethoven and Haydn s traditional form. It s as if he had this heaviness of the past on his
shoulders, yet we listen to his genuine response towards this feeling. Yes he followed this form, but
we can see Brahms rhythmic display, motivic thinking, motivic saturation, and above all his
musical wisdom. That being said, I m a firm believer that music comes from within a person and I
really do believe that Brahms felt this way toward his music. What we listen to today, are
movements that put together, have become masterpieces and models for many composers.
Brahms third symphony is similar to Haydn s conception of the symphony which he shows in his
Oxford creation. It starts with a fast allegro movement, followed by a slow andante movement,
later has a scherzo, and finally an allegro

A Fast Paced, Business Ordinated Technological World The...
In a fast paced, business ordinated technological world the overall welfare of a company is tied
to the success or failure to make the tough decisions. On one instance a company s CEO might
be able to make the choices based on experience, advice, or simple gut instinct. However, this is
not the only skill one needs. There is a great deal of information to be found in being able to see
investments in data and analytics. These decisions are based off of big data. Big data is a catch
phrase, used to describe a massive volume of both structured and unstructured data that is too large
to process using traditional database and software techniques. The volume of data is in most cases
is too big, moves too fast or it exceed the processing capacity the company has. Despite these
potential drawbacks, big data contains the potential to help companies by improving operations and
making faster, more intelligent decisions. This can be broken into three key parts, knowledge, data,
and information. The first of the three is knowledge. This is what drives what one knows, a
combination of experience, insight, and information. All link and categorized in one s brain,
allowing an individual or organization to benefit from that knowledge. However, there lines in the
main difficulty with relying on just knowledge, a computer is not able to understand what it is
processing, and thus cannot make independent decisions based solely on what it s been told. While
this seems to be a simple concept,

Consequently, the League had a fine philosophical doctrine to end war for good. Even so, if an
aggressor state was ascertained enough to ignore the League s verbal warnings, all the League
could do was implement economic sanctions and hope that they worked as it was unable to

The League had success at a social level. Teams were dispatched to Third World countries to dig

Health Organisation started a cause to wipe out leprosy, child labour was also targeted, they also
attempted to tackle the drugs smuggling.
These problems still exist in the 21st Century so it would unfair to criticise the League for failing
to annihilate them with what little resources they possessed. However, to me, the greatest success
the League had involving social issues, was merely the act of revelation. Informing the world at

What Are The Causes Of Street Children
2.2.3 Social Causes
Every phenomenon of social system exists or developed with various perspectives, in this way
street children phenomenon has its own social perspective in urban areas of Ethiopia. Most of the
population of the street children in urban areas comes from rural areas. Poverty, broken families
and lack of healthy interaction between parents and children are main causes for children to move
towards urban areas or to start life as street children. Children move from rural areas towards cities
bring with them a different perspective and life style. Therefore, social perspective in the street
children phenomenon is different from street children having urban and rural background. In the

one of the most effective and easiest to put into place and keep up with in our already crazy

UC is a complex inflammatory process of the colon with no known cause. Inflammation begins in
the submucosa and spreads inward and outward affecting the serosa and mucosa. However, UC
affects mostly the sigmoid colon and rectum, causing ulceration of the colonic mucosa. The mucosa
is dark red with erosions that converge into ulcers. Frequent diarrhea with blood in the stools are not
uncommon in UC (Dudley Brown, Huether, 2012). Symptoms of UC are abdominal cramping,
weight loss, mouth sores, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and joint pain. Cigarette increases the risk
for active UC, especially in women. When individuals present with common symptoms of IBD,

One could go further and argue that the intentional eroticism of something so violent is
somewhat sinister after all, a caress is supposed to be an act of affection and love, and is not
normally associated with something spiteful and violent. A sense of the victim s entrapment and
entanglement is created in the next line, in which Yeats describes the swan s wings as dark webs
(the word dark is also used to portray the swan and its actions as sinister). This sense of
entrapment is emphasised where the swan is said to have the nape of the victim s neck trapped in
its bill . The contrast in texture between the words nape and caught emphasise the power of the
action. Yet, despite the brutality of Zeus initial action, the softness of the word bill implies that it is
forceful, yet not overpowering. The eroticism which occurred in the second line continues in the
line He holds her helpless breast upon his breast . The softness of the words used, combined with
the sexual connotations which they carry, lends the line an erotic tone, made sinister by the
forceful nature of the animal s actions. The second stanza of the poem consists of two questions,
both pondering on the nature of the victim s actions,

Fedex Of The Fedex Corporation
FedEx specializes in the overnight delivery of the packages of high quality, heavy freights and the
documents. The company came up with the overnight air express industry that in the 1970s. The
success of the FedEx Corporation was due to the 1990s flattery form that led to the increased
competition among the industry players . The company also intensified the mastery of the logistics
and tracking ability of the packages during the transportation gave it a cutting edge over some of
the industry players hence, retaining the leadership role in the express air cargo and the warehouse
for several companies and individual clients. The FedExoperated in two hundred and twenty one
countries globally and it served the entire states of America which provided between twenty four to
forty eight hours delivery of the valuables and the cargo that were time sensitive globally.
The FedEx Corporation was founded as the Federal Express Company in 1971 by Memphis,
Tennessee native, Fredrick Smith. Smith was a former pilot hence he outlined his thought for the
overnight delivery service in the term paper he wrote for his economics class at Yale university.
The founder felt that the industry had different requirements as compared to the air passenger
service hence a company that concentrates on the freight and not the passenger service has an
added advantage as it would have a lucrative business segment. In this industry, the speed is more
important as compared to the cost according to Smith,

Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et...
Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen
World War I, probably the most horrible of modern wars, inspired some of the most beautiful and
powerful poetry of the 20th century. Two very good examples are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke
and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, both were written before and during the this war.
Rupert Brooke was a well educated English man who lived the enthusiasm of the whole country
when the war started. He wrote this and many other poems with the illusion of a very short war
with a happy ending. He joined the army and went to war. However, he didn t have the chance to
fight because during the journey to the front he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brooke poem tell us about the good things of dying and even sounds perfect to died in a war and
Owen portrays the image of grotesque death in the field during the war. This difference is mainly
due to what poets experience. It is probable that if Brooke had experience war his poems could
have change of point of view.
The structure and the language both poems have very little similarities and many differences. One
similarity is the consistency of their rhyme scheme. Both poems have a regular rhyme scheme, this
is because… The language Owen s use in the poem is very informal and colloquial. For
example when he wrote Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots / of disappointment shells that
drop behind . The poem doesn t have a formal stanza laid out, the first stanza has eight verse and
the third only two verses. By not using ceremonial words and not having formal stanza laid out,
Owen try to point us again that the war is not elegant or has formal structure. Brooke poem is quite
different, he is language and the structure of the poem is very formal. This suggests that his way of
thinking of war is very formal and by some means without suffering.
Dulce et Decorum Est is full of similes and metaphors, For example, Bent double like old beggars,
under sacks/ knock kneed, coughing like hags or his hanging face, like devil s sick of sin the

The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims
Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with
Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants
face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being
implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx
of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet
others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come
to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies
will have on future immigrationto Europe(Glazer, 2010).
In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims?
While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are
migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh
(Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of
unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010).
Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue
that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the
populace s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national
identity which some

The Story Of Kohl s
The story of Kohl s commenced during 1962 in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Founded by Max Kohl,
the company initially began as a department store, meaning it sold a variety of goods, which
back then included food produce. The company BATUS inc., a division of British American
Tobacco, took control of Kohl s Food department by purchasing 80% of their stake. BATUS was
not able to deal with the amounting competition, so they went out of the retail business by the
mid 1980 s, and later sold Kohl s food stores to the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea company (A P)
in 1983. Kohls ranked eighth in Wisconsin s top 100 privately owned companies by 1987, and the
greatest growth year was in 1988 when the company purchased 26 federated department stores. This

The Economic Factors And Aspects Of The French Industrial...
The Industrial Revolution in France occurred after the other revolutions throughout Europe;
however, they experienced an increase of the pace of their industrialism despite not exactly
developing as quickly as other countries in Europe. The competition from the other industries seen
in foreign areas caused the revolution in France. Unfortunately, many people with specialized,
artisanal skills had to give up their trade. The largest shift of this nature was those who spun cotton
and wool had to give their consumers and production over to the developing textile industry. The
cottage industries, those jobs completed from one s home, in France became extremely difficult
for citizens. Those who worked in those industries could not find jobs that paid enough for
survival. Degradation of the family economy gave rise to cultural shifts in the working class as
families had less control over their lives. Many men were forced to make more money by traveling
with the construction industry to build methods for transportation like railways and canals. Their
industrial revolutionalso spawned the creation of poor and middle class as well as recurring and
violent labor strikes. The living conditions of workers in France spiraled as wages decreased and
starvation became commonplace. Production, factories, and workers became more expensive as
the skill needed to perform jobs decrease. Despite all the negative aspects of the French industrial
revolution, France was also a capital for

Coming Of Age In The Outsiders
The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it. Moliere, a famous author of the 17th
century, explains that obstacles that stand in a person s way can make them stronger. This
happens because overcoming an obstacle can make a person gain something and grow during the
experience. This is one way a person can come of age. Coming of ageis when someone grows
mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Coming of age mentally is when someone grows in their
state of mind. Coming of age emotionally is when someone grows in their feelings, or in a
relationship. Coming of age spiritually is when someone grows in their beliefs. This growth
happens both in real life and in literature. There are many ways for a person or character to come of

When first introduced into the story Clay is just an average high school student. He was friends
with a girl named Hannah who recently commit suicide when he receives a box of voice recorded
tapes from her explaining her reasons behind killing herself. These tapes are the extraordinary
circumstance that force Clay to come of age. In the tapes, Hannah explains how if people
reached out to her, talked to her, maybe things would have been different, maybe she would still
be alive. I think I ve made myself very clear, but no one s stepping forward to stop me. (...) A lot
of you cared, just not enough. And that s what I needed to find out (Asher 280). Hannah
explains how she made it clear that she was unhappy and thinking about suicide, but no one did
anything to stop her, and it seemed that no one cared enough about her to do anything, resulting
in her death. After hearing these tapes and these words, Clay has a new perspective on people,
to be nice to everyone who seems sad so they don t end up like Hannah. Earlier in the book we
were introduced to a character named Skye, who, after 8th grade, stopped talking to people.
Clay was on the bus while listening to a few of Hannah s tapes, and Skye realized he was in the
seat in front of her, and decided to talk to him. Skye s always been pretty, but she acts like the
thoughts never crossed her mind. Especially the past couple of

Matriarchal Themes In A Pair Of Tickets By Amy Tan
A Pair of Tickets was written by Amy Tan and can be interpreted as an extension of film, The Joy

backstory of the main characters A Pair of Tickets expound on the storyline. Together the stories

herself. Rose mentions, I just want you to be happy as her husband request to hear her voice ,
which was misplaced, furthermore, the quotes supports this notion. Sharing the same sensation in
emotional loss of identity allows the protagonist an opening; permitting a strong want to connect
her with their traditional culture. It also authorized Jing Mei to fill the void of her blurred identity,
as she grips on to the good intentions of her mom. The audience recognizes the women, and their

events. Those horrible events allowed the members of the Joy Luck Club to recognize that they had

Should Cloning Be Allowed Research Paper
Should Cloning be Allowed?
One of the best possibilities of cloning are the amazing medical possibilities. With cloning, people
can now potentially treat diseases such a diabetes. Cloning also makes future parents not have to
worry about their children having diseases that will affect their entire life, with cloning we can help
cure these and let all people live life to the fullest potential. While some people call it abnormal to
be able to clone people because it can t be done naturally, other organisms clone themselves and
thrive in today s society. The cloning debate will probably turn out like most others, where people
didn t want to at first but then after allowing it to happen appreciate the possibilities of it.
One of the biggest reasons cloning should be allowed is because of the curing possibilities. Now
with cloning becoming an option for medical purposes, now diseases can be cured with gene
therapy (Keyser). As cloning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people dislike it because it interferes with their religion, or just feel as if it disrupts nature
and the way things are naturally meant to be done (Begley). While yes, it has the potential to
interfere with religions, it only does if you let it. You can think about it the same way as how some
religions allow you to only eat certain foods, other people eating that food doesn t interfere with
your religion, so neither should cloning.
In conclusion, cloning has many massive advantages, that could greatly help our future generations.
Cloning can help our future generations by, making our kids and their kids healthier by potentially
eliminating infertility, and by helping cure diseases such as AIDS, and cancer. But one of the slight
disadvantages is the interaction between cloning and religious things. But if we were to ignore the
amazing medical possibilities of cloning just because of the interaction between it and cloning, then
it would be a grave

Mexican Drug Cartel Analysis Essay
A widely propagated myth would have us believe that Mexican drug lord Joaquin El Chapo
Guzman Loera and his Sinaloa Federation are less violent than many of their competitors.
Statements from journalists and analysts allege that Sinaloa is more businesslike than Los Zetas,
whose reputation for brutality is well documented, and that this business savvy somehow renders
the group relatively benign. In turn, this has led many to believe that the Mexican government
could broker a deal with the leader of one of Mexico s largest criminal organizations. However, a
close examination of Sinaloa s evolution demonstrates the group is hardly the hallmark of civility.
In fact, the history of Mexico s cartel wars over the past decade reveals that... Show more content on

Enforcer groups were no longer untrained thugs with guns; they were trained fire teams that
knew how to maneuver and use their weapons. Seeking shelter from the Arellano Felix brothers,
Guzman fled to Guatemala but was arrested in June of 1993. He was extradited to Mexico,
where he continued to run his criminal enterprises from the safety of a prison cell until he
escaped in January 2001. When Gulf cartel leader Osiel Cardenas Guillen was arrested in March
2003, Guzman saw an opportunity to make a move on the Gulf cartel s territory, especially the
lucrative plaza of Nuevo Laredo, the busiest point of entry for trucks into the United States from
Mexico that provides direct access to the Interstate Highway 35 corridor. Guzman s push into
Nuevo Laredo was spearheaded by the Beltran Leyva brothers, who convinced local gangs such
as Los Chachos to turn against the Gulf cartel. Beltran Leyva gunmen aided local forces, and
eventually a hybrid group was formed when a U.S. citizen and member of Los Chachos named
Edgar La Barbie Valdez Villarreal assumed command of Sinaloa enforcer group Los Negros. Los
Zetas responded strongly to the Sinaloa incursion into Nuevo Laredo and a bloody struggle
erupted for control of the city. By mid 2005, law and order had almost completely broken down in
Nuevo Laredo, and then President Vicente Fox deployed federal police and army units to take
control of the town. But even these forces proved insufficient to stop the

Similarities Between Latin American And Caribbean
Latin American and Caribbean are one of the richest countries when it comes to natural resources.
The natural resources that they have are some of the most useful ones in the world and that
consists of gold, oil, iron, sugar and many more. World Bank stated that Latin America produced
around 80 percent of the world s silver in the 16th through 19th centuries, fueling the monetary
systems of not only Europe, but China and India as well . This shows that Latin America had so
much natural resources that others depended on them. Since Latin America and the Caribbean has

During the past few years the tourism in these countries has increased which helps them get
more money in the country and make the economy grow a little but this is not going to help the
country s GDP increase a lot because this is only one part of the income that contributes to all of
the Latin American and Caribbean countries. In Regional Economic Outlook: Western
Hemisphere Northern Spring, Southern Chills It was stated that Latin America and the
Caribbean are the known spot for tourist destinations . This shows us that the Latin America and
the Caribbean are beautiful places but their economy just isn t doing the best. Also tourism is
not the only source of income for the countries because these countries also hves oil which is
one of the leading asset in Latin America and Caribbean economy. There was also a sharp drop
in oil prices in 2014 and cheaper oil is creating significant relief, which is cutting import bills by 3
4 percentage points of the GDP on average. This helps other countries look at Latin America and
Caribbean as places to get cheap oil. This will ultimately help Latin America and Caribbean get

This story shows how its not good to lie about something, also it shows the love they still have
Wisniewski 3 for each other after the husband was lied to (Parameswaran,1). Myths are made to
tell to children and usually there is a lesson or story the myth teaches. Another Myth is called
Shiva and the Sacrifice. Shiva s father in law held a sacrifice for the gods, all of the gods were
inited but only Shiva was not invited. Shiva got very angry being left out from the sacrifice that
he and some servants of his world attack the ceremony. They ate all the priests and threw blood
on the priests. While doing this, a drop a sweat fell onto earth and formed disease. Brahma then
promised Shiva could take part in all future sacrifices, in return Shiva made disease into many
ailments, this would trouble the humans and animals (mythencyclopedia.com,1). This myth was
created to show how Hindus believe disease came into this world and how something you do can
negatively affect other people. The afterlife Hindus believe in is much different but unique from
other beliefs. Hindu s believe life is cyclical. This means that they do not just die once but are reborn

  • 2. Post Antibiotic Future Since the introduction of penicillin to the public in 1942, antibiotics have gained widespread use throughout the world. The drug has allowed society to make advancements in medicine, increase an individual s personal well being, extend life expectancies, and stop and prevent infections. Antibiotics are one of the largest backbones to maintaining personal health in society today, yet there may be a day when we are no longer able to depend on antibiotics to fight infections. In the essay Imagining the post antibioticfuture , Maryn McKenna establishes the importance of antibiotics to juxtapose how devastating life would be without them. McKenna first introduces the origin of penicillinand antibiotics. The first known antibiotic,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By weight, eighty percent of antibiotics are used in agriculture to fatten animals and protect them from the conditions in which they are raised (McKenna). Animals are given micro doses of antibiotics, that is, a small amount of antibiotics to prevent diseases from occurring. This micro dosage amount allows for mutation that Fleming described. The routine use of antibiotics in agriculture has led to [sixty five] percent of chicken breasts and [forty four] percent of ground beef to house bacteria resistant to tetracycline . Additionally, [eleven] percent of pork chops carried bacteria resistant to five classes of drugs (McKenna). These bacteria then spread from animals to the humans who eat them, causing humans to get infections which cannot be treated. The issue isn t as simple as ceasing to give antibiotics to animals. Most animals raised for consumption live in an environment ripe for infections and diseases to spread. Instead of giving the animals more room to live, the majority of farmers opt to give the animals antibiotics. For cattle, This prevents diseases and death to the immature weaned calves and cattle which saves the rancher both time and money passing on the savings to the consumers. In a free market society higher prices tend to not go well. However, if antibiotics became useless farmers would have to [enlarge] barns, [cut] down on crowding, and [delay] weaning , which ultimately would increase the costs of raising livestock ... • 3. Philips Versus Matsushita s Strategic Capability Philips versus Matsushita Thomas Edison State College Abstract Carefully read Case 4 1, Philips versus Matsushita, on pp. 331 347 of the Transnational Management textbook. Consider the organizational development of each firm and its implications on that company s strategic capability. What do you think of the change each company has made to date the objectives, the competencies, and incompetencies? What strategic impediments and disabilities did each bring to the organizational dynamics? What recommendations would you make to each organizational leader? Philips versus Matsushita Philips and Matsushita have over one century long history. Philips is based in the Netherlands and Matsushita based in Japan. Both based in fairly small countries and it was not long before they went global. Both of them can say that they had the ups and downs. They went through World War II and survived it. During their century in business survived the economic down turns. In general, Philips built its tenured success on a portfolio of responsive national organizations. On the other hand, Matsushita based its global strategy on a centralized and efficient operation through Japan. As they developed and reorganized their international strategies, each company was forced to undertake its strategic posture and restructuring as its competition position fell. In the past few decades technology changed rapidly and at the same time strategies for both companies at the same time. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Miami Vice Fad Regardless of when this question has been posed to me, without giving much thought I quickly revert to the late eighties, and the Miami Vice fad. It is unfortunate that I cannot say with certainty, just how widespread, the fad was, or now that I review, whether, the fad was a fad or a trend, because, I don t know exactly how long the popularity of this style began. Per Bruce Cohen (2013) a fad is something that spikes and wanes, where a trend sort of simmers and gradually becomes popular. I recall receiving a shipment of suits, regardless of the owner s intent for the suit, I immediately envisioned the Miami Vice look, which included a variation of Stacy Adams footwear, and short sleeve tee shirts. My first sale of the ensemble interrupted my completing the actual display; and the sales continued. I can literally say that repeat sales were made from that purchase as one told a friend, and so, on, and so on. I was impressed, excited and amazed at the demand. A Letter To Harvey Milk Summary The topic of the Holocaust is a broad and gruesome one; maybe it is because of the horrors that happened that people still write about it, to try to understand what happened, and how it did. Regardless, Elie Wiesel explains why he, as a Holocaust survivor, writes within his essay Why I Write: Making No Become Yes . He writes that perhaps it is ...in order not to go mad. or to touch the bottom of madness. These two possible reasons are quite different from each other, yet they share a similar topic, this is similarly true about Elie Wiesels essay and Harry Weinberg s short story A Letter to Harvey Milk The similarities and differences in these two works shows the varying ways people cope with similar past experience, the impact those memories can have on their lives, and the effect sharing those experiences can have on them.... • 7. Pretty In Pink Character Analysis 1.Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful are two films both written by John Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch. They depict themes similar to that of The Breakfast Club. Central themes such as class and popularity along with secondary themes of angst, love, self discovery, fitting in, and the need to connect with others are prevalent throughout both of these films. Pretty in Pinkis a prime example for the depiction of class and popularity. Its strong main characters, Andie and Blane, contrast in both of these categories and they develop into deeper story lines as the movie progresses. Class is a strong theme throughout the entire film and is presented in unforgettable scenes. Everyone is nervous walking into their first big high school house party, but the look on Andies face as her and Blane walk through the door is unforgettable. Clearly someone of a different social status, Andie, a true fashion icon, dresses how she desires but sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the upper class teens. No one can forget the iconic line, Nice pearls. This isn t a dinner party, honey , uttered at Andie in this scene. The clear and evident vulnerability of Andie shows just how uncomfortable she is in this setting along with the guiltiness of Blane for having brought her there. Class divides their two worlds and creates conflict throughout the film. A secondary theme that is very popular and might be controversial in the ending is love. Notable with John Hughesfilms are ... • 8. Universities Must Continue with the Race-sensitive... Newspaper headlines and public forums demand educational reform with growing frequency. Race sensitive admissions policies are often at the center of these debates. For example, according to the Los Angeles Times on March 21, 2001, the Los Angeles Community College district trustees are scheduled to vote for a resolution to support the University of California s move to reinstate affirmative actionin its admissionspolicies. This reinstatement has visible student support as seen in the March 15, 2001 rallies at the UC Regent s meeting in which over 1,000 supporters of affirmative action came out to voice their opinion. This activity closely follows two other perceived victories for affirmative action proponents when two recent court... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These types of arguments are a disservice to both sides. As tensions surrounding race sensitive admissions continue to grow, proponents of eliminating race based policies are gaining momentum. A conservative political climate, as seen in the mandates for race neutrality in California and Washington and a recent court decision (Hopwood v. State of Texas), which significantly limits the use of race as criteria for admissions in three states, fuel this charge. Although race sensitive admissions policies are still widely used, a vocal opposition has destabilized the foundation on which these practices are based (Tierney, 1997). Arguments against race sensitive admissions overlap and work in concert with each other. Four main charges encompass many of these seemingly disparate complaints into clear areas of discussion: (1) a moral argument which charges that society should be colorblind; (2) an economic charge that argues race based policies admit unqualified students, creating a financial burden for institutions; (3) a charge of social Darwinism which argues that race based policies do not allow for normal selection process; and (4) a political charge which questions whether policies effectively service society. • 11. The Incredibles Analysis The Incredibles(Bird, 2004), while more progressive in its message than previous Disney projects, fails to fully embrace progressive ideas in its characters or how they affect the story. The Incredibles when seen through its adherence to gender roles and inability to put real influence in its female characters removes possible story strength when given to a female audience when put in comparison with the story structure of Frozen(Buck Lee, 2013). In Frozen, the two most influential characters are women and sisters in contrast to the focus being put on the patriarch of the family. Some may look at The Incrediblesas equally as progressive as Frozen given the family dynamic changes to put a more equal weight of responsibility across genderlines, and allows the female characters to show strength while the male characters can show weakness. When compared to Frozen, The Incredibles does not fully embody progressive ideals. This is primarily due to the differing family dynamics in each film and the dependence on patriarchal characters for substantive plot development in The Incredibles. In comparing these two movies, one can clearly see that the ways these families interact is a symptom of the progressive nature of the film with Helen doing no evolution towards progressive ideals, and much development happening throughout the film in Frozen. After the superheroes are outcast, Helen turns to the life of a stay at home mom, this backtracks from her status as a powerful female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Theme Of Survival In Life Of Pi Survival is the key to any species continuing to exist, many of us manage to jeopardize our state of well being to sustain ourselves, resulting to violent motives and immoral urges. In the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel, character Pi Patel stranded at sea, accompanied by animals due to a ship sinking that serves as the main purpose of the book is a great representation of the hardships a person goes through in order to survive. By viewing through the perspectives of how all animals are dangerous by nature, the cruel acts men will do in order to live, and overlooking individual morals, Pi reveals that in a life or death situation, survival will always overshadow one s humanity. This close analysis of the theme of survival proves that it has a big role in our everyday lives, as when our life is being threatened, there are no limits an animal will go in order to survive. One of the first ways Pi proves how survival outweighs humanity is through his observation that all animals are dangerous by nature. For example, Pi s father addresses to never get comfortable around animals and says Life will defend itself no matter how small it is. Every animal is ferocious and dangerous (Martel 41). This is a pivotal moment for Pi, as even though some animals may seem harmless, they can instantly turn into a savage due to their genetically hard wired behaviours when feeling threatened. Moreover, Pi s father decided to prove a point as to how dangerous the animals can be by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It opens with a preface, and then goes into three past creeds that establish what a Christian is, then followed by the Ausburg Confession, Which is the literal written out beliefs of The Lutheran Church. Inside of the Ausburg confession, there are 28 articles, including a preface and a conclusion, though only the first 21 are actual chief articles of faith, the other 7 speak of abuses of power. Article 1 is about how the Lutheran church sees God as a whole, believing in the Triune God and reject other interpretations regarding the nature of God. Article 2 speaks of sin, how since the fall of Adam, all men (and women) are born into sin without the fear of God, without trust in God and with strong desires to please oneself, and that even now we are dead to sin, unless saved through being born again through babtism and the Holy Ghost. • 14. Teen Suicide In The Pact By Jodi Picoult The Pact by Jodi Picoult perfectly describes a typical high school romance. The story accurately creates a scene straight from a teen s mind. The book is based on two teens Emily and Chris, who are in love, a love so strong they are willing to die for, or rather with each other. Emily and Chris create a suicidepact together, but since only one of teens, (Emily) is actually suicidal, and when the gun only kills one, the question of suicide or murder, stirs in the air. One of the most controversial points among the friends and family of the now deceased Emily is that no one knew of Emily s suicidal intentions, mainly because she did not express the common symptoms of a depressed person. This book addresses the important struggles and issues teens commonly face in today s society, ie. suicide, depression, stress and growing up. The Pactmay seem like a devastatingly tragic story of two teens, but most do not realize how this is a reality for most of the today s young generation. The article Teen suicide by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Shows the heart aching facts and scary truths of teen suicide and depression. The article gets into the mental disorder and creates more depth and truth to what character Emily Gold might have been going through in the book. The only way that you can get patents is by providing exactly what your invention does, so you must be able to communicate clearly so you can receive a patent. The Society for Technical Communication (STC) offers this definition of technical writing: the process of gathering information from experts and presenting it to an audience in a clear, easily understandable form. • 18. Informative Essay On Badgers HOW AND WHY WI. BECAME THE BADGER STATE By:Carlos Sanchez Credit: EKK! Date: October 23rd, 2016 Badger intro Have you ever wondered how Wisconsin became the badger state and why most of our teams are named after our state animal.Well, the reason why we are known as the badger state is because back in Wisconsin s history, all the way back to the 1800 s, miners dug tunnels into hillsides as they searched for lead and then lived in the holes they made during the winter months to keep warm. This reminded people of badgers and that is how Wisconsin became known as the badger state. Badger Background The badger is 9 inch long from head to tail, 9 26 pound, black and white , member of the weasel family. Weasels are small, slender, carnivorous,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Badgers can readily dig rodents out of burrows but cannot run them down readily. Coyotes, on the other hand, can readily run rodents down while above ground, but cannot effectively dig them out of burrows. When badgers and coyotes hunt in the same area at the same time, they may increase the number of rodents available to the other. Coyotes take advantage of rodents attempting to escape from badgers attacking their burrows and it has been demonstrated that coyotes benefit from the association. Badgers and coyotes tolerate each other s presence and may even engage in play behavior. Importance of Badgers They are our state animal and are able to help balance the population of small animals. They also have some predators that can depend on them for a food source like golden eagles, cougars, and bobcats. The badgers are also able to provide good shelter for other animals after they move to a different location. CONCLUSION: Badgers spend 90 percent of their time deep underground so if you see a badger you should treasure seeing them since they rarely come out of their dens. But if you get close to one you should run cause they snarl, growl showing off their teeth ,and if threatened enough they can give off a musky smell like a skunk to defend themselves from ... Atwood may have chosen to incorporate Bhagat, an environmental activist, as a saint in her novel considering that The Gardeners had devoted this festival to the mysteries of plant reproduction, especially that of those wondrous trees, the angiosperms, with special emphasis upon the Drupes and the Pomaceous Fruits which matches with the work Bhagat has been undertaking to counter climate change(Atwood 276). • 21. Similarities Between The Poem And The Silver Thhread By... I found that my favorite poems from the class are about nature. Poems about nature related the most with me because I find them calming and relaxing. While The Silver Thread by Afaa Michael Weaver and Fall Song by Mary Oliver share similar themes and styles of writing, The Silver Thread is more connected to my life because of my past experiences and the more detailed imagery that it contains throughout the poem. Both poems share a theme involving the beauty of nature. The Silver Thread focuses on the scene of a stream, while Fall Song emphasizes the Fall season. The scene in The Silver Thread shows how nature blends with modern life and civilization when it says, the stream disappears under a bridge made by men so trucks can crawl back and forth over this road of dirt with its one row of grass. This image of a man made bridge over the naturally occurring stream shows a balance in the world between the world s now complicated aspects of life and the simplicity of nature which remains straightforward. I can appreciate the balance represented in this poem because I also try to balance the stresses of life with the beauty of nature. The elegance of nature, which would be hard to recreate. Nature s simplicity gives people a sense of calmness even in bad times. The Silver Thread connects with me better than Fall Song because it relates more to my life. Weaver s poem shows more modern aspects of life, such as the bridge over the water. Because he includes more modern aspects, it is much easier to establish a clear image from his description and imagery. My experiences in life have supplied me with many images matching the description of this stream and bridge. While I have also experienced the Fall season, I do not remember any specific scene from it. The Silver Thread also contains deeper meanings about life within it. It says, while up ahead a curve hides tomorrow from our crystal ball. This is a good metaphor for life, because people can never be sure what the future hides. Anything could be around the corner in life or the river. Fall Song also speaks about time when it says, unmattering back from the particular island of this summer, this Now, that now is nowhere except underfoot. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alfred Thayer Mahan The Influence Of Sea Power Upon History Alfred Thayer Mahan s seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660 1783, published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although he is a revered military theorist, Mahan was criticized for not being a systematic. For example, he failed to consider social and cultural conditions in the rise of sea power; the rise of the English middle class, American agrarian discontent, and the rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the term sea power, of which he claimed to have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea power do start to emerge. Firstly, the command of the sea through naval superiority and second, that combination of maritime commerce, overseas possessions, and privileged access to foreign markets that produces national wealth and greatness. Mahan also theorized that a naval fleet should never be divided and that victory at sea is only possible by fleet concentration, his most important principle in naval warfare. Brahms’ Brahms’ Brahms’ Third Third Third Brahms Brahms Brahms Third Third Third In his early days, Brahms was attracted to the traditional form of classical music specifically Beethoven and Haydn. When the original form of the symphony was created, many composers tried to follow and fit the same mold. In this third symphony from an older Brahms, we see that he fits this mold by having this symphony divided into a fast slow minuet fast. Just years before Brahms wrote his first symphony, he was declared as the heir to Beethoven. This obviously had pressure on Brahms at that point in his life, therefore he had to shift from a more traditional form of writing to making it original as shown in this third symphony even though he followed Beethoven and Haydn s traditional form. It s as if he had this heaviness of the past on his shoulders, yet we listen to his genuine response towards this feeling. Yes he followed this form, but we can see Brahms rhythmic display, motivic thinking, motivic saturation, and above all his musical wisdom. That being said, I m a firm believer that music comes from within a person and I really do believe that Brahms felt this way toward his music. What we listen to today, are movements that put together, have become masterpieces and models for many composers. Brahms third symphony is similar to Haydn s conception of the symphony which he shows in his Oxford creation. It starts with a fast allegro movement, followed by a slow andante movement, later has a scherzo, and finally an allegro ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But what happens if the accuser strongly believed the individual they are accusing really committed the sinful act? Briony Tallis, the main character of the novel Atonement by Ian McEwan, was exactly in this position when she was thirteen. She had witness a sexual tension between her sister, Cecilia, and their housemaid s son, Robbie through a series of events Briony misunderstood. McEwan then revealed that the narrator for part three is no one else but Briony. While some are shocked about it, others are well prepared about the big revelation at the end. She is scared just by the presence of Robbie, and the way Cecilia sarcastically laughs made her afraid questioning what she has done to her sister. McEwan displayed the difference in their relationship between now and then. Briony s confident character at the beginning is gone and she now seems more fragile and weak. Greek mythology has, throughout history, been the subject of much debate and interpretation. Conjuring up images of bloody battles and crumbling cities, its descriptions of the epic battle between good and evil still have remarkable relevance and continue to resonate with poignancy in our bleak, war torn society. The poem Leda and the Swan, written by William Butler Yeats, attempts to shed new light on what is arguably one of Ancient Greece s most controversial myths. In this essay I aim to study the poem in more depth, analysing what Yeats says and how he says it. Leda and the Swan is an interpretation of the Greek myth wherein Zeus, in the... One could go further and argue that the intentional eroticism of something so violent is somewhat sinister after all, a caress is supposed to be an act of affection and love, and is not normally associated with something spiteful and violent. A sense of the victim s entrapment and entanglement is created in the next line, in which Yeats describes the swan s wings as dark webs (the word dark is also used to portray the swan and its actions as sinister). This sense of entrapment is emphasised where the swan is said to have the nape of the victim s neck trapped in its bill . The contrast in texture between the words nape and caught emphasise the power of the action. Yet, despite the brutality of Zeus initial action, the softness of the word bill implies that it is forceful, yet not overpowering. The eroticism which occurred in the second line continues in the line He holds her helpless breast upon his breast . The softness of the words used, combined with the sexual connotations which they carry, lends the line an erotic tone, made sinister by the forceful nature of the animal s actions. The structure and the language both poems have very little similarities and many differences. One similarity is the consistency of their rhyme scheme. • 44. The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future immigrationto Europe(Glazer, 2010). In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010). Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe?
