restroom to freshen up.
▪ If presented with a job application, do fill it out neatly, completely
and accurately.
▪ Wait till your turn !!
At Interview Room
12 * 12 * 12 Theory
▪ Interviewer will judge you first from 12 feet away
▪ Then they will judge you by 12 inches away
▪ Then they will judge you by the first 12 words coming out of your
mouth.
At Interview Room
▪ Offer a firm handshake, make eye contact, and have a friendly
expression when you are greeted by the interviewer.
▪ Do wait until you are offered a chair before sitting.
▪ Listen to be sure you understand your interviewer’s name and the
correct pronunciation.
▪ Maintain good eye contact during the interview.
▪ Sit still in your seat
At Interview Room
▪ Treat the interview seriously and show interest in the employer and
the opportunity presented and respond to questions in a positive
manner.
▪ Make sure you understand the employer’s next step in the hiring
process; know when and from whom you should expect to hear next.
▪ Don’t treat the interview casually, as if you are just shopping around
or doing the interview for practice. This is insulting to the
interviewer and the organization.
▪ Don’t give the impression you are only interested in salary.
At Interview Room
▪ Don’t act as though you would take any job or are desperate for
employment.
▪ Don’t take cell phone calls during an interview. Turn the cell phone
OFF – vibrations make noise
▪ Many interviewers will assess you based on:
– Appropriate eye contact and posture
– Correctly pronouncing his/her name
– If you talk easily or are overly formal and reserved
– If you seem enthusiastic and confident
Answering the Questions
▪ Respond to questions and back up your statements about yourself with
specific examples whenever possible.
▪ Ask for clarification if you don’t understand a question; and be thorough in
your responses while being concise in your wording.
▪ Use good grammar and good diction. Say “yes”, not “yeah.” Don’t fill
pauses with “um,” uh” or “ah”. Don’t punctuate sentences with “you know”,
“like”, “see” or “okay”.
▪ Answer the question and use professional experiences or descriptive
information to demonstrate how you would react or respond to a situation.
▪ Make sure answers have a definite flow. In the beginning state major
points you want to make; in the middle expand upon those points or ideas,
and in the end reinforce your key points and end on a positive note.
Answering the Questions
▪ Do make sure that your good points come across to the
interviewer in a factual sincere manner
▪ to enable the interviewer to understand what you are trying to
say; to determine your strengths for that particular job; and to
have sufficient information to make a good decision.
▪ Speak slowly and clearly. Don’t be afraid to pause for a moment to
collect your thoughts
▪ Listen and understand the interviewer’s questions before
responding thoroughly yet concisely
▪ Be honest- don’t try to cover up mistakes. Instead, focus on how
you learned from them.
Answering the Questions
▪ Do avoid controversial topics
▪ Don’t ever lie. Answer questions truthfully, frankly and succinctly
▪ Don’t answer questions with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Explain whenever
possible. Describe those things about yourself that showcase your
talents, skills and determination. Give examples
▪ Don’t inquire about salary, vacations, bonuses, retirement, or other
benefits until after you’ve received an offer
▪ Don’t bring up or discuss personal issues or family problems
Closing statements
▪ Courteously thank the interviewer(s) for the opportunity to
interview with the Company and ask for a business card.
▪ Extend a handshake and exhibit enthusiasm about the career
opportunity.
▪ Consider following up with a thank you note or e-mail of appreciation
to the interviewer(s) to further show your interest.
Interview Myths
▪ Myth: The candidate with
the best education, skills,
and experience will get the
job
▪ Reality Check: Employers hire
individuals for many different
reasons. Education, skills, and
experience are only a few of the
several hiring criteria. If
employers hired only on the basis
of education, skills, and
experience, they would not need
to interview candidates. Such
static information is available on
applications and resumes.
Employers interview because
they want to see how you look
and interact with them, how you
would handle various work
situations, and how well you fit
into the organization.
Interview Myths
▪ Myth: If the interviewer
asks if I have any negatives
or weaknesses, I should
indicate I have none
▪ Reality Check: You should
be honest. Everyone has
negatives. If you indicate you
have none, the interviewer
knows you are being less than
candid. But neither should you
blurt out your worst
negatives. Identify a
weakness and talk about how
you are working to overcome
it.
Interview Myths
▪ Myth: I’ll be at a
disadvantage because I’ll
be nervous
▪ Reality Check: If you
practice some stress
reduction techniques, such
as taking deep breaths and
focusing attention on the
questions, you should be
able to project confidence
in the interview. Keep in
mind, many interviewers
are under pressure to hire
the right candidate.
Interview Myths
▪ Myth: Because I am a
college student, I do not
have the ability to
negotiate a salary
▪ Reality Check: You can
prepare for salary
negotiations by researching
typical salary ranges prior to
your interview. Ask the
interviewer what would a
person with my qualifications
earn in this position, and let
the employer introduce a
number.
Interview Myths
▪ Myth: My major goal in the
interview is to get the job
▪ Reality Check: Your major
goal should be the same as
the interviewer’s – gain
useful information from
which you can determine if
this position and
organization are a good fit.
Interview Myths
▪ Myth: If I don’t have
English fluency , I will not
get the job
▪ Reality Check: English
fluency can surly gives you a
advantage but it is not the
only thing interviewers are
looking for. Knowledge and
presentation can also helps
you in getting the job.

What do you think you do be good at this
job?
▪ The best is to say general and say something like: A job where
I love to work, like the people, can contribute more to the
company
▪ A job which is challenging, a job which gives me opportunities
to prove knowledge and skills
