You have adopted one small piece of a very large IoT pie, even if you haven't adopted the name yet. IoT may sound like a business buzzword, but in reality, it’s a real technological revolution that will impact everything we do. It's the next IT Tsunami of new possibility that is destined to change the face of technology, as we know it. IoT is the interconnectivity between things using wireless communication technology (each with their own unique identifiers) to connect objects, locations, animals, or people to the Internet, thus allowing for the direct transmission of and seamless sharing of data. IoT represents a massive wave of technical innovation. Highly valuable companies will be built and new ecosystems will emerge from bridging the offline world with the online into one gigantic new network. Our limited understanding of the possibilities hinders our ability to see future applications for any new technology. Mainstream adoption of desktop computers and the Internet didn’t take hold until they became affordable and usable. When that occurred, fantastic and creative new innovation ensued. We are on the cusp of that tipping point with the Internet of Things. IoT matters because it will create new industries, new companies, new jobs, and new economic growth. It will transform existing segments of our economy: retail, farming, industrial, logistics, cities, and the environment. It will turn your smartphone into the command center for the both digital and physical objects in your life. You will live and work smarter, not harder – and what we are seeing now is only the tip of the iceberg.

A look at clouds and big data trends and history. While Big Data arrived first on the scene -looking at google file system, hadoop, dynamo- Cloud was first in the hyper cycle. Google trends show this clearly. Amazon AWS however has already deployed analytics services on the their cloud while open source IaaS solutions are still struggling to deliver a EC2 clone. Cloud and Big data has three common points: 1-use an EC2 clone and a S3 clone (riakCS, glusterfs etc) to build a cloud 2-Use a big data solutions as a backend to your cloud to provide EBS or large scale image catalogue 3-deploy big data solutions on your cloud with tools like apache whirr, pallet, and newer devops tool chains with vagrant and co.

"Machine learning algorithms require significant amounts of training data which has been centralized on one machine or in a datacenter so far. For numerous applications, such need of collecting data can be extremely privacy-invasive. Recent advancements in AI research approach this issue by a new paradigm of training AI models, i.e., Federated Learning. In federated learning, edge devices (phones, computers, cars etc.) collaboratively learn a shared AI model while keeping all the training data on device, decoupling the ability to do machine learning from the need to store the data in the cloud. From personal data perspective, this paradigm enables a way of training a model on the device without directly inspecting users’ data on a server. This talk will pinpoint several examples of AI applications benefiting from federated learning and the likely future of privacy-aware systems."
