advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to

these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different

land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and

What is the Role of Quantity Surveyor?
A quantity surveyor has its origin from the 17th and 18th centuries in different parts of
its world. Quantity works are regarded as “measures” with the skill of measuring the
quantities before the construction work begins and preparing the bill of quantities for
the work. The role of the quantity surveyor program is developed to the next level in the
current construction industry. There is a lot of myth about quantity surveyor jobs. Their
job is limited to only preparing the bill and taking measurements of quantities; they are
required to be experts in mathematics. There is a tremendous amount of

In a questionnaire survey conducted by QS graduates, the skills required for the quantity

the feedback rate is 20%. The skills that are required are classified into three categories:
Technical, Soft, and Software Skills.
Technical Skills: It includes the knowledge and application related to pre-contract and
post-contract management.
Software Skills: It can be inferred from a survey that some software tools are
compulsory to learn and it is essential for foundation, some tools required for
intermediate level with exposure from application view and others are needed advanced
level of understanding. It can understand that the QS would undoubtedly require the
best skills in MS excel to provide the best performance.
Soft Skill: Soft skills needed for the quantity surveyor program are also collected
through a questionnaire survey, and it was found that the following are mainly required
for them to succeed.
• Critical thinking to work on different possible situations and results to factor them into
projects.

• Patience to consider things with accuracy and detail.
• Time management skills required as the quantity surveyor task are mostly time-
consuming.
• Leadership quality and professional ethics.

clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
