Marks and education have become very important for youth today due to norms of smaller family sizes and greater emphasis on education. However, the high cut-offs required for college admission, often 99% or higher, mean that hard work is not always rewarded and students lose confidence. While education is important, it should not be the only factor that determines one's future; qualities like character and personality are also important. The overemphasis on marks has created an unhealthy competitive environment that has led some students to lose hope. There needs to be a balance between the importance placed on education and marks.
