The document summarizes how the author edited a movie trailer in Serif MoviePlus software. They cut unnecessary parts from dialogue scenes to shorten them. They slowed down a walking scene to build suspense. They sped up a running scene to make it clearer. Text, credits, and social media promotion clips were added. Text inserts between scenes were used to relate to surrounding clips and build tension with changing music.
2. As you can I started of with creating the Production logo I thought I using a different
method of showing the start. I looked up ways on how to create smoky animation on
Serif MoviePlus, but the software was unable to create such animation. So, I searched up
free smoky animation and downloaded it as a video format so that it can be inserted
onto Serif MoviePlus. I had to cut the length as it was quite long. I simply added in the
text to blur into the clip and then blur out after.
As you can see I edited the length
and how fast the pace of the
smoke should be.
3. Discussing with my teachers they said the length of the talking scene between the brother
and sister is way to long and it needs to be cut shorter. So, by clicking on the trim button a
smaller screen appears and I was able to cut the clip down to what was important. As you
can see the lighter part of the clip is what I wanted to use and the darker part is what I cut
off. This shows that the darker part is unnecessary.
4. In this part where the brother is walking alone on the bridge I had to slow down the pace
which was easily done through tool on the corner. I wanted to slow down the clip in
order to show suspense and create tension.
The blue part that is highlighted is the track of the music that was
added into the clip. As you can see there is overlap towards the
end is where the sister is typing on the laptop. So I had to turn
down the volume of the music.
5. As you can see there is a scene where the villain steals the brothers bag and runs off into
the dark so in the real clip he runs quite slow. So, I decided to speed up the pace of the clip
and this was done by clicking on the clip and using the tools on the right hand side.
It is not clear but you can see that the clip has been increased in brightness as it was
quite dark to see who was running and what had happened to the brother.
6. This the credit block that appears at the end of the trailer I screenshot the image and
inserted into Serif MoviePlus since it was the quickest method to do. Also, I was satisfied
with the way it looked as a whole. I had to increase the length of the clip to about 4
seconds as it allows the audience time to see who the cast were in the trailer. I had to
include the BFFC rating on the credit block so that the audience are aware of what ages
are allowed to watch the film.
7. This is the title clip where it appears with the background of the brother and the villain
walking at the back I thought of using this scene since it looks scary and creates tension
when the audience will be watching. I choose to use a simple font since the background
gives quite a big suspense. I had to increase the brightness since it was quite dark and I was
unable to see the two characters appearing on the clip. The first screenshot is the darker clip
and the second one is the one which was brightened up.
As you can see the colour of the title is
quite light so I had to increase the dark
shade and add in 3D glowing effect to
make it stand out.
8. This is text clip that took about 10 minutes to create I download the icons of social media
and made each icon to the similar size, and arranged them across the bottom. I added in a
hash tag to make it easier for the audience viewing to use the hash tag when talking about
the film. This is a form of promoting the film. The length of the clip is about 4 seconds
along which appears at the end of the trailer.
9. This is a text clip that appears between each scenes of the trailer in order to make it
suspenseful to the audience. I had to be careful on what each text had to show as it had to
relate to the clip that would either be shown before or after. In the trailer you will when few
text appears the music starts to build up and become louder which is benefit as it creates
tension. Each text clip is about 3 seconds long as it allows the audience to read it before
switching to the next scene.
