2. Peaceful And Nonviolent Resistance
While peaceful and nonviolent approaches are effective when it comes to changing
social attitudes and initiating social revolutions, these approaches do not always
guarantee peaceful change. The methods of peaceful resistance articulated by Ghandi
and MLK, only work within the context of democratic states with some form of
established civil society. Nonviolent resistancein authoritarian dictatorships, on the
other hand, does not guarantee change for the oppressed population, as this
population is entirely at the mercy of the established order which typically views
any opposition as a threat to their power and survival. Long term institutionalized
oppression requires escalation from the dominant authority before nonviolent
resistance can become viable option. Within democratic societies, violent
resistance can often be directly linked to some form of state sanctioned violence.
However, in these cases, non violent resistance offers a much better alternative
because the state is more responsive to peaceful tactics. When established regime s
chose violence as a response to non violent resistance, we see an escalation of
violence. This is best exemplified by Syria s peaceful Arab Spring protests, which
quickly escalated into a bloody civil war because of the Assad regime s decision to
violently crackdown on peaceful protests. King writes that privileged groups rarely
give up their privileges without strong resistance. But when oppressed people rise up
against oppression there

Corals don t grow very well near river openings or costal areas with too much,
because corals need salt water to survive. What do corals need to survive? #61623;
Sunlight: Corals need to grow in shallow water where sunlight can reach them.
Since corals depend on the zooxanthellae (algae) that grow inside of them and this
algae needs sunlight to survive, corals too need sunlight to survive. Therefore,
corals rarely develop deeper than 50 meters (165 feet). #61623; Clear Water: Corals
need clear water to survive and don t thrive well when the water is opaque. Sediment
and plankton can cloud the water which decreases the amount of sunlight that
reaches the zooxanthellae. #61623; Temperature: Reef building corals require warm
water conditions to survive. Different corals living in different regions can withstand
different temperature fluctuations. However, corals generally live in water
temperatures ranging from 20 to 32 degrees Celsius (68 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit).
#61623; Clean Water: Corals are sensitive to pollution and sediments. Sediments can
settle on coral, blocking out sunlight and smothering coral polyps. Pollution from
sewage and fertilizers increases nutrient levels in the water, harming corals. When
there are too many nutrients in the water, the ecological balance of the coral
community is altered. #61623; Saltwater: Corals need saltwater to survive and
require a certain balance in the ratio of salt to water. This is

BRIEF REVIEW OF THE TOPIC According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (2009), Childhood Obesity is defined as a Body Mass Index at or
above 95th percentile for both male and female children in the United States.
Approximately 9 million children are struggling with Obesity (Gootman, J.A.,
McGinnis, M., Kraak, V.I., 2006). The rate at which children are being diagnosed
with obesity has more than doubled over a span of 25 years form 7% to 18% for
children ranging in age from 6 11 years (Ogden CL, Carroll MD, Kit BK, Flegal
KM., 2014). Furthermore, the National Center for Health Statistics reported the
percentage of obese adolescents aged 12 19 years more that tripled within the same
time span from 5% to nearly 21%. The National Institutes of Health, National Heart,
Lung, and Blood Institute, through collaborative efforts defined overweight as
having an excess in body weight, along with a specified height, for a particular
combination of mass from fat, muscle, bone and water.LITERATURE REVIEW

evidence through various studies that obesity is an epidemic. Having experience in
dealing with community projects to address obesity, the conclusion is made that
enhanced policy is needed to implement effective approaches that aid in the reduction
of obesity in adulthood by targeting younger populations. State and government

5. Julius Caesar s Influence On The Roman Empire
Miguel H.
The Roman Empire is considered one of the most powerful empire in history. It
influenced many cultures and societies. The Roman army was feared throughout
Europe because it was vast in size. Even though it had many problems throughout its
reign, it had lasted for over five hundred years The Roman Empire demonstrated the
strength needed to rule so many other countries and cities, setting the foundation for
other governments (modeling for other countries?) . The Roman ruler Julius Caesar
was often regarded as the first emperor of rome but that s not true, Julius Caesar was
actually a dictator over the roman territory. It was because of his many campaigns
throughout Europe and him helping the roman government, that they considered ...

Most of the emperors were assassinated by there own people and some didn t even
rule from at least 5 years. This caused distrust on each other and the people of
Rome started to have less faith in them. In Constantinople, after troubles reaching
back to 790, the empress Irene had her son Constantine VI blinded and deposed in
797 and took his place, the first woman to rule the empire in her own right
(Barraclough 4). The Roman economy had suffered inflation once they stopped
conquering new lands and so the coins became less value. Since the value of coins
decreased it was harder to pay soldiers to defend against the borders. When
Diocletian established the tetrarchy and later retired the rulers of the land turned on
each other. This period, also known as the Imperial Crisis, was characterized by civil
war, as various military leaders fought for control of the empire (Mark 3). The
empire was reaching its

Written Final Spring 2016 Elena Drefs We see risk taking being defined as
exposure to the chance or injury of loss; a hazard of dangerous chance. But what if
there was another way of redefining risk taking? What must one overcome to be
able to define their own accomplishments and or failure as taking risks in their
lives? In the collection of unit 5 of the Close Reader by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

Literature doesn t necessarily have to fit it into the reader s life, novels like
Fahrenheit 451 or 1984 lack major connections to teenage life, but are still taught
in school, a book should teach a lesson or give food for thought, this book does.
The Lord of the Flies is a novel that has become a mainstay in high school literature
for decades, some detractors of this book believe that, since it has nothing to do
with high school teens, its main audience, it should be removed from public
schools. However, the Lord of the Flies acts as a social experiment, allowing for
discussion of the way rules control our interactions in society. In addition to this, the
book shouldn t be removed from school since it also teaches how young people are...

On the other hand, those with darker intentions like Roger, will act and follow
through on their darkest desires once there s nothing there to stop them. This holds
true to how teens interact with laws in society, like deciding to listen to a rule or
not, a rule being an obstacle in the way of someone s plans, or a law that is viewed as
the best for society.
The book should be maintained as a standard in the classroom because it discusses the
topics of innocence, bystanderism, and vulnerability. Out of ignorance, in the pouring
rain and lightning, The clan of boys savagely beat Simon to death. They had
thought he was the mythical beast on the island. Many excuses were made, but
one to point out is Piggy s, That s right we was on the outside, we never seen
nothing (Golding 158) he exclaimed, after the topic of Simon s death arose.
Bystanding while bad things happen to others is a common theme, a belief that if
you ignore it, it ll go away, like how the boys decide if they deny they were at the
scene of Simon s death, it ll make feel slightly less responsible for it, although they
were all part of it. They try to deny their loss of innocence, and make them

10. Direct Instruction Models And Lecture Instruction Model
This paper explores published articles that report on results from research conducted
on direct instruction model and lecture instruction model. The articles, however, vary
in their definitions and uses. Lindsey (2014) suggest that Direct Instruction works,
providing rapid gains, gains that persist, gains that increase self esteem because
children have real skills they can be proud of. Lindseys statement, merely hits the
surface of Direct Instruction since it is best for learningspecific concepts and/or skills.
When delivering direct instruction the instructor must have sound knowledge and
skill that is logically organized and it is ideal that the learners already poses the
prerequisite knowledge for this instruction to be most successful. This paper
examines Peterson, Schwerdt and Wuppermann (2011) research in relation to three
other research articles to suggest that both direct and lectureinstruction models should
be studied in order to determine different approaches with the two and which works
better for the learners. Other articles look at this instruction model differently and,
therefore, offer different results. Direct instruction was first developed by Siegfried
Englemann and Wesley C. Becker. Few studies have been conducted on teaching
styles, two of the instruction models that are used today is direct instruction and
lecture instruction models. Schwerdt and Wuppermann (2011) suggest that few
rigorous studies look inside the classroom to see what kinds of

ask, it s important to understand the difference between them.
Ads go far beyond those little boxes filled with words and pictures that pop up when
someone conducts a Google search. When it comes to Google AdWords, there are
two main types of ad campaigns the search network, and the display network.
Though, it is also possible to select a combination of search and display network
ads. Additionally, there are some specifically focused campaigns that use shopping,
video and apps to draw and keep customers. Here are some of the most widely used
and successful ad campaign types.
The Search Network The way this type of advertising campaign works is that you
link AdWords to keywords and phrases. When someone searches for these linked
key words or phrases, your ad will show up. The ads that appear are relevant to the
person s search. The person searching looks up what they want under a category
heading through Google much like they used to do with a phone directory or
Yellow Pages. For instance, if you are searching for a dentist, related ads for
dentists will conveniently appear. The Search Network type of ad campaign targets
the search partners so that your ads display not only in a Google search but also in
other Google partners, like

It was there that Jane saw a sight she would never forget. The poor swarmed around
the peddlers offering every penny they had for the left over food. The peddlers were
selling food that was moldy, bruised, and dirty, but the people did not care, many of
them sat right there and ate it anyway. Jane wondered if there was anyone around to
help these people. While in Europe Jane studied the German, Italian, and French
languages.
While Jane was in Germany, she saw women carrying large beer canisters on their
backs across snowy walkways. The beer was steamy hot and would splash onto the
women s faces and hands. Many of the women had scars on them from the burns.
Jane could hardly contain herself, ran to the brewery, and yelled at the owner. The
owner did not care, and told Jane to mind her own business. After several years in
Europe, Germany, and Spain, Jane decided it was time to do the dream of her
childhood. She would return to Chicago and open a large home in an impoverished
part of town. At last, her dream would become a reality.
In September 1889, Jane and two of her friends fixed up an old house on Halsted
Street. Gardens and oak trees once owned by a Charles Hull had surrounded the old
home. Now the home was surrounded by some of the worst slums in Chicago. Jane
considered all who lived around her new neighbors and wanted nothing more than to
help each of them. From the beginning Jane invited women over for tea,

the school took immediate interest in him but did not expel or suspend him.
While he was building his rocket, like many others, he did not achieve his goal

and finish his rocket. Goddard created the first liquid fueled rocket, applied past
knowledge to new situations, he tried again and again and applied past
information, and illuminated the world by inspiring them. Robert H. Goddard
created the first liquid powered rocket that actually flew. Many people had tried
before him and had failed so that is why it was such a gigantic thing. On march 16,

Violence is defined as the use of excessive physical force, which causes or has
obvious potential to cause harm or destruction to an individual. Violence in sports
comes in many forms, and divides into social and cultural factors related to the sport
ethic, gender ideology, the dynamics of social class and race, and the tactics used in
sports. Violence in sportshas gone too far because sports violence has become so
severe in sports, that players are injured each years. However, in sports some
violence has become entertaining for the fans and fans would begin their own
violence around with other fans that support opposing teams to win. The violence in
sports can cause severe casualties from collisions to concussions that may result in
long term mental or physical damage.
There are many casualties of violence and collisions/concussions in professional
sports. The first common type of violence is body contact. The brutal body contact
includes physical practices common in certain sports and accepted by athletes as part
of sport participation. Examples of brutal body contacts in sports are collisions, hits,

17. The Most Common Form Of Dementia
The second most common form of dementia is vascular dementia, which happens
when there is a blockage in the blood vessels that is in the vast system of the
arteries that feeds the brain. Vascular dementia is known to affect the thinking
process and older people are generally more prone to developing this disorder.
Vascular Dementia, also known as multi infarct dementia, occurs when cells in the
brain are deprived of oxygen. Mini strokes, also known as silent strokes, are the cause
of partial blockage of the bloodvessels. The people that suffer from strokes have a
30% chance of getting dementia within three months of their stroke (Kumral and
Özgören, 2017).
The vascular system oversees the blood vessels and provides the brain with oxygen.

Which older people are more prone to blockage of these arteries
Correspondingly, there are two pathways that transports blood to the brain called
internal carotid artery and vertebral artery. The internal carotid artery has three layers
call the tunica adventitia, tunica media, and tunica intima. Tunica intima is made up
of smooth muscle cells and elastin. The basilar artery forms and it branches out to
the posterior cerebral arteries. The posterior cerebral arteries form the internal
carotid arteries and when they connect they make cerebral arterial circle ( circle of
willis). The middle cerebral arteries branch out two separate arteries called the
anterior cerebral arteries. Each of these arteries are the force that direct the blood
flow to the brain. There are three tiny vascular systems that work together to
profuse the deep brain. Which are the pial, subependymal, and lenticulostriate
arteries. The small area of white matter that depends on blood flow is called the
subcortical shed water area. The subcortical is more prone than other areas of the
brain to have ischemia. The leading cause of ischemia is the fibrin builds up and
this cause a narrowing of the lumen. Which does not allow the flow of red blood
cells and deprives the white matter of tissue of oxygen. The tissue then losses density
and produces white matter lesions. The neurons become demyelinated which leads to
loss of cognitive ability.
Furthermore, the symptoms displayed by vascular dementia will

has always exercised an important role in the Russian economy. The contemporary

Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in the Great

Most entrepreneurs purchase the protection. Then the new company pays unofficial
taxes to crime groups. This guarantees that nearly all new businesses will have an
affiliation with the mafia. Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately
twenty percent of the profit (105). This is a major form of taxation on top of what the
government already commands leading many companies to tax evasion or concealing
their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the authorities might be able
to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish more than
adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and
rival gangs. They ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are
visited by another organization, they must only summon their own mafia group. The
two gangs will settle the matter themselves (Gustatson 105). This security is an asset
that the State seemingly fails to provide. The Russian Mafia has more men and

Feminist Witches

Feminism is defined as the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of
the sexes. Eavan Boland and Anne sexton share more than just their love of poetry,
they both incorporated female struggles and feminist ideas into their poetry. In a
close reading of the poems Her Kind, by Anne Sexton and Anorexic, by Eavan
Boland, the themes and the overall feel and struggles of the characters in both poems
are very similar; they both use historical and biblical references that demean women
and they both use strong female stereotypes that are going through personal struggles.

With the help of imagery, this poem tells the story of a woman beaten down,
victimized, and rejected by society. In the last stanza Sexton writes where your
flames still bite my thigh (18) and my ribs crack where your wheels wind , these
are powerful pictures that exemplify a woman being accused of being a witch,
being tortured like in the sixteenth century when this was deemed acceptable. She
uses this comparison to express to just what extent society has beaten down this
woman and just how much pain is inflicted. This poem is of a woman who is
struggling to stand up for herself alone, for her freedom and liberty and is viewed
by others as a rebel and as a negative addition to the public. Society shuns her,
discriminates her and in a metaphorical way torture to the point where she realises
that she will in fact die trying. A woman like that is not afraid to die (20) states
that this misunderstood woman, misunderstood because woman s freedom is
actually a positive thing but in a dominant male society is viewed as bad, is ready
to die for her cause. She will die a martyr as long as she does not give up what she
believes in and in this poem it is woman s freedom and independence. Anne sexton
delivers this message even more powerfully with the rhyme scheme and the stresses
on strong words.
In Eavan Boland s Anorexic , the character is also a struggling woman, although she

Thus, for example, a balance sheet should represent faithfully the transactions and
other events that result in assets, liabilities and equity of the entity at the reporting
date which meet the recognition criteria.
Most financial information is subject to some risk of being less than a faithful
representation of that which it purports to portray. This is not due to bias, but rather
to inherent difficulties either in identifying the transactions and other events to be
measured or in devising and applying measurement and presentation techniques that
can convey messages that correspond with those transactions and events. In certain
cases, the measurement of the financial effects of items could be so uncertain that
entities generally would not recognise them in the financial statements; for example,
although most entities generate goodwill internally over time, it is usually difficult to
identify or measure that goodwill reliably. In other cases, however, it may be relevant
to recognise items and to disclose the risk of error surrounding their recognition and
measurement.
Substance over form
If information is to represent faithfully the transactions and other events that it
purports to represent, it is necessary that they are accounted for and presented in

The Message in Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing
In an attempt to enlighten audiences with a powerful message about the cancer that
hate and violence can bring to a society; writer, director, Spike Lee brings Do the
Right Thing to the screen. Fusing a powerful story with creative film making, Lee
gives us an insider s look at life on a blistering summer day in Brooklyn.
To create an atmosphere that both looks and almost literally feels like possibly the
hottest day of the year, Lee uses orange and yellow filters throughout the film.
Objects, as well as people seem to glisten in the light. Even scenes shot indoors have
beams of light coming through windows and doors. The use of lighting is only one
technique Lee uses to create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is accomplished with different camera angles as well as the movement of the
camera. For example, in many scenes as the camera follows the action it is shaky
rather than sturdy, as if you as a viewer are walking around and seeing the action
through your own eyes. One may also notice that an escalated level of action or
conversation on the screen is mirrored by the pace of the film from frame to frame. In
essence, a heated argument would involve a quick paced transition of shots, going
from a close up of one character to another at a rapid pace in tune with the argument.
At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to a wide variety of characters.
Mayor, an older gentleman with a drinking problem, portrays neutrality in the film
that is in sharp contrast to the racism and discrimination that is harbored in most of
the cast. Throughout the story, Lee has a way of making this hatred between
characters seem ridiculous to the point where it becomes humorous. Perhaps as a
way to make the audience look at hate as a joke, and to see it that way in their own
lives. However, slowly we begin to see that the hate towards others is stemming from
frustrations within their own lives, and is taken out on others in increasingly more
harmful ways. In the end, we see this escalating hate lead to violence and in turn to
destruction for everybody.

22. Compare And Contrast Mavericks And Chris Mccandless
The life paths of Chris McCandless from Into The Wild and Jay Moriarity from
Chasing Mavericks are interested to compare. When comparing the two, it is
intriguing to investigate their similarities with family issues, their similarities with
their need for adventure, and their differences on how they shaped and motivate
themselves to get to their dream adventure because these investigations reveal that
they both have a lot of courage and nobility. Both McCandless and Moriarity show
their nobility in their need for adventure, but they both are a little crazy for wanting

dangerous for any person to ride. Both McCandless and Moriarity both have family

McCandless would go to different places to get certain things out of his adventure.
Every place had a purpose to him. Whether it was meeting people and making
friends or traveling to Bullhead city to work at McDonald s to get money.
Eventually he would get to the point in his journey of going into Alaska.
McCandless would leave with just his car, money, ten pound bag of rice, a book
about local plants, and a used gun. As McCandless stated I m fine with what I got.
His original intention was to live off of what Alaska s wilderness would provide him.
He ended up losing his car in a flood and money he had he lit on fire because he

chasing a dream of surfing Maverick. He would always go watch the waves and
one day he got taken out by one and Frosty would be surfing and would save his

age with Frosty and when he found out about Maverick he knew he had to surf it.
He would go straight to frosty in between going to school, working at a pizza place
and learning the ways of the waves. He would work himself and study the different

23. Influences In Edgar Allen Poe s Work
Edgar Allen Poe and his poems have influenced many people and writers. People
from all ages can read Poe s work. Poe s work are used in schools from elementary,
high school, and colleges. Personally I have started reading Poe s work in seventh
grade. The first time I have read him I was confused and when the teacher
explained his work, it all clicked right into my head. Poems like The Raven and
Annabel Lee are very dark and gloomy and his personality is dark and he is gloomy.
Poe has a mysterious appearance. Poe has influenced many readers and he was very
famous in his life.

entered the US military at West Point (Mark 8). When Poe was at West Point, he
wouldn t take the necessary financial support, which led him getting expelled in
order to find a job. Soon after getting expelled, Poe left West Point for New York.
Poe got his first job as an editor for the Southern Literary Messenger in 1836. A
year later Poe got married to Virginia Clemm when she was thirteen and Poe was
twenty seven. In 1839, Poe worked as an editor at Burton s Gentleman s Magazine.
He shortly left to try and start his own magazine. Virginia ruptured a blood vessel
and her health fell down in 1842 (Mark 9). When Poe released the The Raven , it
got him extremely famous which led to him getting good money. The year of 1847
was a very hard time for Poe because Virginia died that year. On September 27th, Poe
took a steamer to Baltimore on his way to New York. Poe was apparently found
senseless and drunk in a parking lot. He was taken to a hospital where he died a
few days later. Edgar Allen Poe died when he was 40 on October 7th (Mark 10).
Poe was a very successful man. He earned his nickname Father of the Detective

24. Physics Of Physics And Engineering Mechanics
By the time I reached senior high school, I knew I wanted to study mechanical
engineering, but I hadn t decided on a focus. Then, near the end of my junior year,
I attended a family function at my aunt and uncles house. A number of my siblings
and cousins had piled onto their trampoline, and eventually a bracket in the
underside of the trampoline failed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but my uncle, who
worked for Elliot Group, mentioned that a simple finite element model should have
been able to identify the design deficiency. At the time, I didn t even know what
finite element analysis was, so I did some research when I got home. What I found
was a field that exactly suited my interests in applied mathematics and engineering
mechanics. Since then, I have taken every opportunity possible to expand my
knowledge of computational mechanics, and I hope to further that effort at the
University of Illinois. My academic experience began freshman year of college,
when I took a course on computational methods in engineering. As it was an honors
course, the curriculum was extremely aggressive. We covered basic programming in
both C++ and MATLAB, a number of numerical methods, and how to write strong
technical papers. Since then, I have taken more advanced courses, but this one had
the greatest effect on me because it impressed upon me the vast potential of
computation methods. Many of the problems that are difficult to solve analytically
could now be solved in the blink of an eye,
25. The Bureaucratic System Of Public Administration
Introduction How Kristin Died is a prime example of one of the many issues inherent
within the bureaucratic system and the misfortunes that can stem from it. This case
forever changed the lives of those involved and unfortunately resulted in the death of
Kristin Lardner, a 21 year old college student, at the hands of Michael Cartier, her
estranged boyfriend. It is important to public administration because public
administration contains many issues of hierarchy and redundancy. Public
administration also has the power to mold the environments where it is present in
many ways. This case is strongly related to organizational theory, the relationship
organizations have with the environment and how individuals behave within. When
presented, the information within the case surrounding the details of Kristin s death
proves that had the bureaucracies involved taken the necessary preventative
measures, this tragedy may not have occurred. The main individuals of this case
include: Kristin Lardner, Michael Cartier, Tom Case and Rose Ryan. Although others
were involved, these individuals had the most influence within the case. Although
Lardner was originally from Washington, DC, this event takes place in Boston,
Massachusetts, where she attends college in the early 1990 s. History Cartier
showed signs of trouble very early on. As a child it is stated that he would light
matches behind a gas stove, and even mutilated his pet rabbit. Due to these acts,

27. Orson Welles Use Of Montages In The Film Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane by Orson Welles is a story that was made for excellence. However,
since it was about William Randolph Hearst, it did not do too well. Many movies
didn t want to play the film because they were scared of Hearst and his power.
Although, many could not see the movie it still became one of the greatest films ever
made through its uncommon angles, montages, and lighting. One of the most famous
scenes in filmis the beginning where Charles Foster Kanedies after saying rosebud.
What makes this scene so great was the camera angle. The snow globe that Kane
drops after his death created an angle never before seen. This angle allowed for the
intensity of the scene to increase as it emphasizes the nurse running in the room and
the broken globe to show Kane s world as comes crashing down on him. Another
interesting camera angle is when Kane is being taken away from his mother where
both her and Kane are visible and in full focus. Along with this angle it also has a
smooth transition from the angle of the mother and sliding through the window to
allow for the new scene. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first montage seen is the March of Time Newsreel. This reel is very important
as it tells us that Charles Foster Kane dies and gives us a backstory on his ridiculous
life. Another important montage in the story was after Kane got married to his first
wife, Emily Kane. This montage shows him and his new wife happy at the table.
Going through many weeks and months this montage shows the transition Kane and
his wife has just through the being at the dinner table. At first, they are lovey dovey
sitting close to each other, then Emily starts talking about how he is always at work
which leads to them sitting away from each other by the end of the montage reading
opposite newspapers. The montage are really important but the lighting allows the

29. How Did Edwin Herbert Land Contribute To Photography
EDWIN HERBERT LAND
The word photography has been derived from two Greek words: photo, for light
and graph, for drawing [1]. Some people considers photography as an art while
some considers it as a science. Today, photography is the largest growing hobby in
the world. The person who created a revolution in the field of photography by making
it an instant process is none other than the great scientist Edwin Herbert Land. He
contributed to his achievements by inventing the Polaroid camera. This essay will
outline the life of Edwin Herbert Land, his inventions, things which inspired him for
such invention, how he ended up successfully, how this invention changed the lives
of people, and the rise and fall of such discovery.

By December 1948, this instant camera was available for sale to the public. Land
and his team expected that people wouldn t go for it. They would have enough left
in stock but everything went wrong and all camera units were sold on the first day
itself. Land continued to work on improving the camera for several years. In 1963, he
got success in the development of instant color photos through the use of Polacolor
film.
The invention of Polaroid camera changed the lives of people in various ways.
Before its discovery, people used to spend money on a camera that used to deliver
the photo which was a print of the negative and even doesn t give the picture
instantly. Polaroid camera allowed people to wait for a short period of time for their
pictures to be developed. After instant photography, color photography was
discovered soon with which people could have instant color
30. Jane Atwood Bird Imagery Essay
Bronte frequently employs bird imagery in this novel, using it to show us the
deeper emotional thoughts and desires of Jane. From the beginning of the novel,
Jane has a fascination with birds from reading Thomas Bewick s History of British
Birds (which is an actual book). At Gateshead Hall, where Jane is lonely and
abused, she escapes from the Reeds family by retreating to a window seat with
Bewick s History of British Birds. One drawing in the novelthat catches Jane s eye is
the one with the solitary rocks and promontories that the seafowl inhabited (9).
Similar to the drawing, Jane is the only one who inhabits the solitary window seat
to find refuge from the Reeds, and it is here that she dwells in a world all her own,
wishing to be like the birdthat can soar in the sky freely. Through the image of the
seafowl, the reader is able to see the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on, through the use of a hungry robin at Lowood, Bronte shows us Jane s
want of nourishment and her lack thereof, due to the other kids bullying and
stealing her food. She says, My vacant attention soon found a livelier attraction in
the spectacle of a little hungry robin, which came and chirruped on the twigs of the
leafless cherry tree (51). The little hungry robin also grounds Jane s desire to fly
free with reality, sending the message that even birds must come and face their
problems. The secondary role of bird imagery is to create a dichotomy between the
nature of Rochester and Jane, using what Bewick wrote about the brids, to
characterize them. Jane is a compassionate, strong willed individual who is willing to
serve others: A new servitude! There
31. Sustainable Design Versus Aesthetic Design
Design is that area of human experience, where skill and knowledge is concerned
with man s ability to mould the environment according to his material and spiritual
needs. It is used to analyse and identify problems to find an appropriate solution.
Designers have created all kind of functional designs to help improve people s lives.
They were interested in the nature of beauty, art, and taste and with the creation and
appreciation of beauty. Although there are examples of pre historic art, they are rare
and the guidelines that they followed are not so clear, Thus the aesthetic doctrines
that guided their production and interpretation one mostly unknown. However,
recently designer notice what happing to the world such as global worming... Show

However, these cultural aesthetic merits have been undermined by very restricted pro
environmental guidelines (Donald et al, 2008) such as, The Design Accord. As a
result, modern architecture has lost the engagement with the local cultural identity
and the sense of creativity has been reduced (Donald et al, 2008). Where
experimenting and exploiting the plant resources will result in a better world than
trying to protect the environment (Donald et al, 2008). A good architecture does not
need any ethical diminution and responsibility regarding the environment and just
design for the design sake (Donald et al, 2008).
What they both fails to consider is that the aesthetic value and the environment value,
if they are used together it will benefit the design. Good design should have the
flexibility, creativity and responsible design approaches and methods, and also good
communication (Wolf 2010). According to Meyer (2008) the aesthetic value could
increase the functionality of a particular the design. He also states that In designing
urban eras parks consider as aesthetic value, but it also has an important effect on the
environment in two ways: they are environment cleaning machines and shady groves
of trees reducing temperatures, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
32. United States Census Bureau Population Projection
According to the December 2012 United States Census Bureau Population Projection,
the nation will continue its trend of consistent diversification. By 2024, the non
Hispanic white population will show a decrease in numbers. Minorities including
Hispanics, African Americans and Asians will double, and other groups will increase
by at least half. Eventually, non Hispanic whites will not be seen as a majority, but as
an equally represented group among its ethnic counterparts (U.S. Bureau, 2014). This
projection can not be transposed to the country s nursing population. Non Hispanic
white nurses often vastly outnumber other groups (Bessent, 2009, p6). The nursing
workforce needs to actively and continually diversify its professionals to provide
competent care for the nation s ever changing population. The first step to gaining an
equally represented nursing workforce is to ensure all races receive an opportunity
to advance their education and become registered nurses. Many cultural beliefs are
obstacles for minorities. Families believe that a woman s place is just within the
household or that college is not an option for their children (Wros, Doutrich, and
Ruiz, 2009). The nursing industry must advertise vigilantly to both the children and
their families that culture should not hold anyone back from achieving their goals,
and a nursing career is a good goal to want to achieve. When asked what could be
done to increase the amount of minority nursing students, Yvette
33. Examples Of Tragedy In Annabel Lee
Love and Tragedy: Annabel Lee In Edgar Allen Poe s final poem Annabel Lee, the
narrator tells a story of his love for a maiden named Annabel Lee. The two live
happily together in a kingdom by the sea until the angels become jealous of their
love and send a cold chill that kills Annabel Lee and devastates the narrator.
Throughout the first half of the poem, the narrator s tone is jovial when reflecting on
the lovehe shared with Annabel Leebut becomes more somber and dark when
describing the present. Through the use of imagery and symbolism, Poe effectively
illustrates powerful themes of love and tragedy present in the relationship between
the narrator and Annabel Lee. Throughout Annabel Lee, Poe uses various types of
imagery to express... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most noteworthy example of this is the character Annabel Lee herself. Aside
from Poe detailing how young and beautiful she is, little else is know about her.
Since she does not speak and no description of her is provided in the poem, the
image of Annabel Lee is left entirely up to the reader. Since she is the reason for the
poem and the only thing the narrator thinks and talks about, the character of
Annabel Lee also acts as symbol of pure, unimaginable beauty and love. With how
high the narrator regards her and how far he is willing to go stay with her, she is
almost elevated to a symbol of beauty and love that is unattainable and too good to
be true. Another notable symbol found throughout the poem is the sea. In Annabel
Lee, the sea is presented as being vast and cold, serving as an accurate reflection of
the emptiness and despair felt by the narrator after losing Annabel. Starting from line
31 onward, the image of the sea progressively becomes more intense and ominous. In
this line, the sea is flowing with demons that threaten to sever the relationship
between the narrator and Annabel Lee a stark shift from the mythical, storybook
image of the sea with the kingdom presented in the second line of the
34. Realism In The Lumiere Brothers
Realism is the artistic attempt to recreate life as it is in the context of an artistic
medium. It began as a revolt against the conventions of the classic view of art in the
late 1800s in America and Europe in the form of an artistic movement (McConnel, R.
1997). There are many themes involved with realismthat shall be discussed. These
include accuracy and independence.
Realists attempt to portray the illusion that their film world has not been manipulated
and is almost like a mirror to the real world. Their techniques are different to those
of any other film. They try to make the film seem as real and as close to normal life
as possible by using natural lighting instead of special lighting equipment, they also
mostly use hand held cameras and employ non professional actors to really uphold
this realistic image.
The Lumiere Brothers were the pioneers of realism through films as they ... Show

The depiction of subjects is always absolutely accurate to reinforce the portrayal of
real life and is void of any unnecessary artistic embellishment (Vaux, R. 2014). A
technique that is used is filming done on locations rather than sets to properly
portray the feel of real life. Events are not euphemized or hyperbolized to become a
distortion or opinion of the truth. Unpleasant images, words and events are portrayed
in full with no hidden facts, as well as plain images, words or events.
A realist film that shows great accuracy is the war film All Quiet on the Western
Front. The storyline incorporates just enough action to inform viewers that it is a
war movie and at the same time it also embodies many other aspects such as the
politics, emotions and hype involved with the war (Ronald, R. 2013). This gives the
viewer a more accurate view as all aspects of the war are covered. Throughout the
film we see that real locations have been chosen to enhance the realistic vision and
accuracy of the film.
35. Designing A More Productive Manner During
Construction...
In order to perform any task in a more productive manner during construction,
equipment must be used. Depending on the scope of work and the size of the job
more than one piece of machinery may be used; the model, size, and people
operating the equipment will differ too. The equipment, personnel, area, and project
factors may be different for every job but they all share a common factor, risk. This
factor aids contractors to determine the type of equipment to choose and the supplier
to provide the equipment for the project as well.
Choosing the right equipment for the project is a major risk the contractor must be
able to handle. They must analysis and completely understand the project; such as
understanding the type of soil to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each specific area in construction uses various types of equipment, every piece of
equipment has a different purpose. The contractor must determine for each project
and the scope of work assign what equipment to use, and whether to buy or rent the
equipment. For example, if a contractor specializes in concrete work and it is a job
that they perform regularly, it would benefit them owning the necessary
equipment; such as mixer and pump. This allows them to have the availability of
the equipment when it is required. However they are responsible for all the
maintenance on the equipment and inspecting it frequently, in order to keep it
operating properly (pg90). If these services are not performed regularly the
contractor risk the equipment being damaged or not performing to the norm. They
also must be aware of the operating cost and depreciation value of the vehicle; in
order to receive funds from some of the equipments retained market value (pg 92) .
Now in a job that requires a special type of equipment, one not familiar with the
contractor, renting may be the best option. In renting the risk factor is also there, the
supplier may not have the equipment available for the time being requested or may
be too far of a distance from the job site.
Thus location of the project site also has some effects to the project, it can determine
the delivery and mobilization risk factors. Not only can location affect the time of the
availability of the equipment, but as well the
36. Solubility Lab Report
This lab experiment aims at using different techniques of dissolving and extraction
to test the rates of solubility of different substances that have both similar and
dissimilar substances. Each experiment was based on the idea of like substances
dissolving each other, which means that polar substances can be dissolved in polar
substances, and non polar substances can be dissolved in non polar substances [1].
To add, each experiment required that both dissimilar and similar substances are
mixed in order to develop layers resulting from the immiscibility (inability of
substances to mix) which will ultimately enable similar substances to be extracted.

Therefore, they cannot dissolve in polar substances like water. [1] This is the
guideline followed by the non polar hydrocarbon biphenyl. Similarly, the like
dissolves like concept explains biphenyl s ability to dissolve in hexane. Ethanol s
insolubility is caused by sp2 hybridization of orbitals of biphenyl which generate
more polarity than the sp3 hybridized orbitals of carbon. [1] Hydrogen bonds with
methanol and water can be formed from the malonic acid compound which follows
the second and sixth guideline. [1] Malonic acid s insolubility with hexane can be
accounted for by their opposing polarities. An oxygen atom, which is
electronegative, is contained in benzophenone thus making its molecules polar. This
explains benzophenone s insolubility with polar methanol. Benzophenone did not
dissolve in water, but it dissolved in hexane because it has 2 non polar aromatic
groups that total up to more than 6 atoms of carbon having an oxygen atom
(Guideline 5). [1] In Part B of the experiment, 1 butanol and 1 octanol were dissolved
in hexane but did not in water. Methanol did not dissolve in hexane, but it did in
water. Although 1 butanol and 1 octanol have an electronegative oxygen atom which
allows polarity, a larger part of their molecules have hydrocarbon bonds that follow
the fourth guideline. However, 1 butanol prevents Guideline 5 that states that

Under the protection of Major League Baseball s ( MLB ) longtime antitrust
exemption, Minor League Baseball ( MiLB ) has continuously redefined and
reshaped itself according to Baseball s overall needs. But while MLB salaries have
increased dramatically since the MLB reserve clause was broken in 1975, the
salaries of minor league players have not followed suit. On February 7, 2014, a
group of minor league players led by former minor leaguer Aaron Senne filed a class
action complaint against MLB and three MLB clubs alleging violations of minimum
wage and hour laws. According to the complaint, most minor leaguer earn between

Once a player is placed on a club s 40 man roster, he is entitled to the minimum
salary prescribed in the Basic Agreement, which for 2014 is $500,000 for MLB
service and $81,500 for MiLB service. Historically, while the average minor league
salary has risen by just 75 percent since 1976, the average MLB salary has risen by
approximately 2,000 percent thanks in part to union representation and open
markets. Regardless of the legality of the claims raised in Senne, MLB has an
ethical responsibility to change the current system to ensure that minor league
players are not living in poverty by fairly compensating them for their hard work,
both financially and with other intrinsic compensation. A proactive approach that
balances the interests of players and the financial needs of clubs can solve these
issues while retaining the development structure that clubs rely on. First and most
simply, MLB should increase monthly salaries for minor league players. Having
players paid below the poverty line is embarrassing for an organization that
produces over $8 billion in revenue per year. To answer this concern, MLB clubs
can take advantage of the colossal jumps in television revenue to increase salaries.
MLB can also help, perhaps using some of the $750 million added per season by
their new national media contracts. By multiplying the current figures by 2.5 (see
Figure 2), a structure is created that gives all

Louis and Clark were sent out to explore the new land, to see what it was like out
in the unexplored land. The Corps of Discovery left in May 1804 and didn t come
back until September 1806. Within those two years Louis, Clark and their men, had
encountered with Native Americans. This is a really important deal because the
natives had helped Louis and Clark on their journey. Sacajawea helped them with
paths, directions, and interacting with other Indians. If Louis and Clark never had
encounters with the natives than they would have never found their way back
home. If they didn t return home on one would know if it was safe land to live on,
or bad land to live on. Ever since they explored the land that Jefferson bought, more
people went out and explored, there were fur trapper s mountain men and many
different types of people that had went out and explored after Louis and Clark
returned. So the point on why it was a turning point, is because they made
interactions with the Native Americans, and the natives helped explore the new

from injuries. They do this because they know the struggle and sacrifice that it takes
to recover from injuries like that. They are a non profit organization so they are just
doing this out of the kindness in their hearts. Semper Fi Foundation provides financial
support to all injured members of all branches and their families, donating to them is
beneficial because with that moneythey provide direct financial assistance for
soldiers in long hospitalization and rehabilitation, also provides travel and lodging
expenses, and childcare and out of pocket expenses.... Show more content on

She then with a group of other military spouse would go around to hospitals and held
welcome home activities. They then started to arrange travel for family members who
could not afford air travel (Semper Fi Foundation). They started this organization
back in spring of 2003 to mainly pay for soldiers rehabilitation of PTSD who could
not afford it. I know the struggle a man can face from PTSD. My great grandpa had
faced it and had struggled a lot with it because he never got proper treatment from it.
Later around 60 it had gotten to much and he had committed suicide. This has
affected my family s life and we support this organization so much. This organization
have also done a lot more for these
41. The Pros And Cons Of Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action is a principle that addresses reality; discrimination has put people
in cycles of oppression and poverty from which they are discouraged from ever
ascending. As such, it is a principle that calls for us to find ways to support them
despite circumstances like backgrounds of inadequate education. Plenty of findings
support the notion of historical oppression, including those on early education. The
National Commission on Teaching and America s Future found that new teachers
hired without meeting certification standards (25 percent of all new teachers) are
usually assigned to teach the most disadvantaged students in low income and high
minority schools (Linda Darling Hammond). This self feeding loop is one of many

The American psyche provokes feelings of superiority in Americans, possibly being
responsible for the negative thoughts and feelings regarding minorities, influencing
an American to feel that they are better than a person from a minority. Affirmative
action policies undermine racist intuitions entrenched in the American psyche
intuitions that stop people from acknowledging the full humanity of black people
(Why we all need...). Affirmative action is one of the public policies that can
directly counter racial stereotypes. This is because if there are more chances to view
black people not as the subservient less than human things but rather intelligent,
equally human people, this would reduce the common negative associations with
black people. Any person that views black people as having full humanity is one
person too much in this time and age. The transformation from seeing black people
as being historically discriminated against to capable humans would slowly peel
away the old stereotypes and eventually break them if affirmative action was used
everywhere. Historically racist institutions, such as certain colleges, continue to
conform to the time tested formula and, in the process, inadvertently also continues
to promote a culture where black people are viewed as below humans. When some
think of black people now, they think of crime, irrationality, lack of intelligence,
violence, and perhaps the infamous American character of Jim Crow. While
affirmative action could not guarantee the breaking of some these stereotypes due to
what affirmative action is, it would fix most of them if allowed to exist on college
campuses. The American psyche has been in full effect since the start of the nation,
promoting these ideas and influencing the
42. The Elwha River ( Duda )
Introduction: The Elwha river is located on the Olympic Peninsula of the Pacific
Northwest in Washington State. It travels 72 kilometers from the Olympic range
in the Olympic National Park to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Before human
disturbance this watershed was considered one of the most productive ecosystems
in Washington State and all of the Pacific Northwest (Duda). In the early 1900 s
two dams were built in this watershed on the Elwha river forming two lakes. The
Elwha hydroelectric dam at river kilometer (rKm) 7.9 (Figure 1.) was finished in
1913 and formed the Aldwell lake. 14 years later when electricity demands were
greatly increased the Glines dam (Figure 2.) was built further upstream at river
kilometer (rKm) 21.6 which then formed Mills lake. (NPS, Dam Construction)
Figure 1Figure 2. Studies before the dam removal have shown that 83% of the
Olympic National Park has been untouched and is still considered a pristine
wildlife habitat which is good news. This means that if the lower end from the
dams and below can restored then the Elwha River ecosystem theoretically will
recover as well. Of the lower 5 miles that was left available for fish spawning, not
very much of it was usable. The dams cause a baseline shift in the lower river by
changing the composition of the river bed from fine sediment to larger stones and
boulders which is not prime spawning habitat for fish. The negative effects of the
dams, both indirect and direct,
43. Pozdnyshev s Self-Knowledge And The Limitations Of
Narrative
Pozdnyshev wife s life altered after bearing children beginning to develop
independent hobbies, such as playing the piano, which sparks Pozdnyshev s
jealousy. Before taking up her hobbies, she brings a notion to her husband that in
the world, the only thing worthy of attention [is] love (Tolstoy 42). She feels that
she lacks love in her marriage, which results her to devote herself passionately to
the piano, which had formerly stood forgotten in the corner (Tolstoy 42) to make
up for lost love. Afterwards, their arguments became more intense, and Pozdnyshev
becomes polluted by jealousy (Tolstoy 42) once his wife s attention is no longer on
him, knowing that he is losing control of the mastery of the gaze. According to
Jeanette Bicknell, the author of the scholarly article Self Knowledge and the
Limitations of Narrative, she views Pozdnyshev s ignorance of his own emotional
states and unhappy marriage could stem from a lack of self knowledge (Bicknell
409). He expresses his fear of losing the mastery of the gaze through anger,
stemming not from unhealthy attitudes toward sexuality, but from his frustration at
his inability to control his own desire, and at his inability of controlling his wife s
body (Bicknell 409). By getting angry with her for taking up hobbies, he doesn t see
her as a human being, but an object that always needs to be managed by him through
the mastery of the gaze. Without being able to control her, he loses grasp of the gaze,
which results in
44. The Persecution Of Jews From Death And Labor Camps
There was no choice. Schindler said these words, reflecting on his moral decision
to save over 1000 Jews from death and labor camps. He knew there was a right
way, and also a wrong way, morally, and that he had no other option. For other
industrialists in Schindler s position, it wasn t as easy a choice. During the Third
Reich, German industrialists had a moral decision to make: whether to cooperate
with the Nazis and profit from the persecution of Jews, or to resist and risk their
lives and fortune. The Nazis created laws in order to persecute Jews, which
contributed to the industrialists decisions. In 1939, Jews were made to wear
identifying stars, and they were forced to live together in isolated ghettos. In the
next few years, more laws were passed inflicting pain and cruelty upon Jews. Then,
the Nazis moved beyond persecution, and threatened Jewish people s jobs and
economic stability. First, Jews had to register their property, and then, their
privately owned businesses were sold to non Jewish German industrialists at a
very low price. When their companies were sold, all of their managers and employees
were kicked out. Later, once Jews were forced to work in non Jewish Germans
factories, a rule was passed in the spring of 1940, declaring that the wages of all the
Jewish workers went directly to the SS, instead of the actual workers. Soon after,
everyone except for work essential Jews had to leave the city, causing every Jew to
desperately try to find
45. Bertie s Use Of Film Techniques In Oedipus The King
One of the best examples where film techniques were used by the director which
helped shape the audience s reaction to Bertie s character is the final sequence of
events that took place in the film. The film techniques that were so skilfully
integrated by the director in this sequence, which primarily shaped the audience s
reaction to Bertie were the lighting, camera shots and dialogue. These events are the
key to understanding if Lionel Logue really did help Bertie overcome his speech
impediment. The sequence begins with the King receiving a speech which details
how the world s nations are at war once again. Upon looking at it he utters four
simple, but important words to Major Hartley, Get Logue here immediately . As
Bertie delivers this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lionel then enters Buckingham palace, where the audience see gasmasks hanging
on the entrance wall. This just emphasises that, everyone is aware that the Nazis
are declaring war on the world. Then Lionel and Bertie rehearse the speech
together. Throughout the rehearsal, Bertie uses the techniques that Lionel has
taught him. For example when Bertie gets stuck at some points, he starts to sing
the speech in familiar tunes such as Camptown Races. Bertie is about to pause
while saying This message is spoken with the same depth of feeling and instead he
says This message is... then he sings the following in the tune of Camptown Races
Spoken with the same depth of feeling Doo dah day. To the audience, the way that
Bertie practises his speech is quite strange and humorous because as an audience,
one wouldn t expect someone like a king to sing while practising a speech of such
importance. Then he speaks a bit more and fills his pauses with swear words such
as S**t, f*** and bug**r. This again changes the audience s opinion of the king as
no one would expect a king to swear while practising such a grave
46. The Expansion Of Islamic Rule
In Europe during 1250 1350, the major technological advancement, firearms, was
significant in influencing Europe s rulers. Although created between the mid 13th
and 14th century, firearms, such as cannons and muskets, weren t fully developed
to be efficient and reliable in warfare until the mid 1400 s. Due to an increase in
firearms, rulers began to create centralized, fiscal military states to finance their
strategic shift to firearm bearing infantries (542,). Rulers also began to implement
imperialism, extending a country s power and influence through military force,
which had been a dormant policy for decades. The reason for reverting was a result
of developing commonwealths between the competing realms, consisting of the
religious civilizations of Islam and Christianity. The people who led the expansion
of Islamic rule, first over the Eastern Orthodox Christians and eventually over the
Western, the Ottomans, frequently attempted to raise immense amounts of currency
in silver and gold purely for the sake of obtains firepower in the hopes of world
ruling. But as Abu Lughod would reason, that was a long shot to begin with. Low
on money, the Ottoman Sultans compensated their military commanders with
parcels of conquered land, also known as land grants. Property used in land grants,
typically farmed by local villagers, generated rental income for officers of their
regimes. However, once the Ottoman rulers had gained control over more cities and
progressed over long
47. The Influence Of The Great Lakes
The Great Lakes are surrounded by the northern United states, and southern Canada.
Both countries own the Great Lakes except for Michigan which is only owned by
United States. The Great Lakes include Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario. The
Great Lakes are connected together by rivers. The Great Lakes are also connected to
the Atlantic Ocean with the St. Lawrence River.
During the 1970s the Great Lakes were polluted by many things. For example, oils,
factory s waste, mercury, and fertilizer. The water was filled with so much pollution
that it didn t even look like water. The water was filled with so much mercury and
other toxic chemicals that it would dangers for the fish to live, and for the birds to
eat the fish. The Cuyahoga River
48. Media and Technology Representation
The movie Where Do We Go Now? by Nadine Labaki had won lots of awards in the
Cannes Film Festival (Fares 2). The movie was thought provoking and simply
beautiful. The movie was about war torn villages wherein Christians and Muslims
are having personal conflicts and are plaguing the whole village at large. The
conflict had mixed effect in the whole habitants of the village and the women on
the movie are trying to keep off men from each other s throat. The movie was all
about the coexistence of Lebanese Muslim and Christians living in one
community. The issue was felt by everyone as it was overtly done. The movie had
shown the struggles face by the people in their diverse community. The village was
very quiet and far from the noises of the outside world. With only one bridge that
connects the place to the outside world, the whole village was very much ancient
and considered as very rudimentary. Because it was offset from the outside world,
media and technology was slow and almost non effective. Television reception was
very weak and signal was very poor. The movie had started with young children
seeking for a broadcast signal because the town folks have already settled to watch
the night shows. However, since the signal reception was bad, the people felt very
uncomfortable with the television. The whole community had been divided into
Christians and Muslim and their churches are just a house apart. Because of the set
up, there are times that people are not happy living with

Flea Market Observation
Long Beach Outdoor Antique and Collectable Market
Another man s trash is another man s treasure. This is exactly what goes down at
the Long Beach Outdoor Antique and Collectable Market at Veterans Stadium. I had
the pleasure of visiting this event last week. Let me tell you, this experience was one
for the books. Being a rookie towards the flea market/ swap meet experience I had no
idea what to expect. Doing a little research, I stumbled upon a definition that gave me
a little foundation of what I was getting myself into. By definition, flea markets are
regularly recurring event involving the participation of several vendors of used
merchandise, collectibles, discounted new merchandise but not ... Show more content

There are sales clerks to help you and the mall is rather organized. At a flea market,
prices can be bent and there is almost no rhyme or reason to the order or variety of
merchandise. If someone were to visit the flea market numerous times throughout the
year, I feel like they would have the coolest items in their possession...ever! It s the
perfect fun and inexpensive to spend a lazy or productive weekend!
The value of this event, coming from a new comer, I would say is pretty
remarkable. On any given weekend, you can find several leisure goers flooding
flea markets to either find great deals or just enjoy the atmosphere. Everyone to
anyone comes out for these events, and you know never know what someone is
going to want or need in their lives. Everything and everyone has a purpose and
that d what s amazing. Not going to lie, I bought a couple leisurely items myself for
safe keeping and to remember my first experience at a flea
50. Understanding A Problem And Defining The Real Problem
Understanding a problem and defining the real problem is a skill that can be applied
to many facets of life. In the workplace it is common place to have management not
understand their employees and in turn create a negative work environment. For
example, a labor crew may have years of combined experience, but it is
understandable that an inexperienced educated person might be placed in a
managementrole above the laborers. Without truly understandingthe environmentthe
laborers deal with, the inexperienced manager might see labor practices that are not
fully understood and find fault with those practices despite the years of experience
that went into the particular practice. (Modic, 1988) presents five tenets management
can use to better manage people. The relationship between management and
employee was studied to determine these five tenets and how they can resolve the
root of work evil.
The first tenet of people management according to (Modic, 1988) is, Focus on
performance, not personality. Modic goes on to explain, This provides a dialog that
can address performance improvement. (p. 1). The second tenet ties into the first
tenet of focusing on performance by providing a way to measure the performance.
Modic says, Provide a base line against which to measure later results, a key element
in the change process. (p. 1). The first two tenets are being used to focus on a
measureable component of an employee s performance rather than intangibles such
as personality. By
51. How Did Hannibal Dominate The Roman Army
Hannibal Barca was a man bred for war. His ability to command a battlefield was
unmatched during his day. During the Second Punic War, Hannibal led the
Carthaginian army against the Roman Republic. He would march through Italy
destroying the Roman legions battle after battle. His victories at Trebia and
Trasimene were just preludes to the massacre that he would conduct in Southern
Italy, at the Battle of Cannae. Rome had the best military of its time. They troops
were drafted each year and any land owning citizen could be picked. Every man
was trained in the art of war, to be ruthless and efficient on the battlefield. They were
trained with pilum and gladus to kill their enemies. They fought in what is known
has a Maniple Legion. Maniples were the small formations that made up the bigger
battle lines. These smaller organizations trained together and became a coherent part
of the Roman lines. The Roman camps were laid out so that the Maniples camped in
the same order that they line for battle. And this powerhouse of a military had to main

Hannibal s Balearic slingers with light spearmen advanced and enticed the Romans
with volleys of stones. The Romans quickly advanced and closed with the enemy.
While the Romans advanced they first met the Carthaginian center led by Hannibal.
The Gauls and Spanish put up a fight then started backing away. This lured the
Romans to focus directly on the center. While the Carthaginian center was
collapsing, their cavalry was gaining ground. Hasdrubal, Hannibal s brother, was
leading the cavalry on the Carthaginian left. He led his force to obliterate the
Roman cavalry on the Roman right wing by the river. This freed him up to sweep
behind the cavalry on the Roman left and help the Numidian cavalry to dispatch the
remaining Roman cavalry. In one fell swoop, Hasdrubal had knocked out all of the
Roman cavalry. The Roman army no longer had protection on their
52. Review Of The Lord Of The Rings
The incredible complexity of Gollum is evident to anyone who watches the Lord of
the Rings trilogy. Although he is a CGI character, he offers great emotional depth.
There is never any doubt that he is just as real and important as the movies non CGI
characters. Clearly, animators painstakingly created Gollumto achieve this realism;
however, what audiences are less aware of, myself included, is the extremes that
Andy Serkis, the actor behind Gollum, went to in order to create him. Now, Serkis is
well known as an actor who can achieve incredible physical transformations. Roles
including Gollum in the Lord of the Ringsand Hobbitmovies, King Kong in King
Kong, and the ape Caesar in the Planet of the Apes movies have made Serkis a
household... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They look up on screen and see me in those roles (cite NPR) To achieve his
masterful physical transformation into Gollum, Serkis started with the character s
voice. Serkis states that he wanted to find the construction in [Gollum s] throat, the
source of his pain (cite Guardian). He viewed Gollum s voice as intrinsically linked
to his physicality, with Gollum s body being controlled by the ring and then his
voice and the gollum sounds he makes being an involuntary manifestation.
Accidently, Serkis used his own pet cat to create Gollum s distinctive voice. He
noticed how when his cat threw up a furball, it was like the whole body writhes
from the tip of the neck to the tip of the tail and convulses. And you see this ripple
goes down its spine (cite NPR). Although Serkis started with Gollum s voice, the
character s voice and his physicality were always linked. This technique is
reminiscent with our own experiments with animal masks in class. While working on
our character pieces, we picked an animal that matched that character and then
experienced the character as that animal. This method proves to be incredibly
helpful because it allows the actor to uncover a hidden side of the character that
animal nature we all have but suppress as civilized members of society. Watching

53. Unintended Or Unplanned Pregnancies Are A Major
Health...
Unintentional or unplanned pregnancies are a major health concern associated with
increased risks of detrimental behaviors, abortions and negative social and birth
outcomes (Feldman, 2012). While the rates of pregnancy and childbirth among
adolescents under the age of 20 in the United States have been falling since 1990 it
is not expected to disappear entirely and remains a national problem (Moeller, 2007).
Pregnancyin adolescence have been associated with a variety of poor maternal and
infant outcomes. Health risks to teens and their infants include low birth weight, risk
of prematurity, developmental delays, and poor prenatal weight gain. The antenatal
and postpartum social risks include depression, substance abuse, homelessness, child
maltreatment, reliance on public assistance, lack of education, and domestic abuse
(Bensussen Walls Saewyc, 2001).
Adolescence is a time of major cognitive, social, and physical changes. Parenthood
is not a normal age related tasks for adolescents (Bensussen Walls Saewyc, 2001).
The age related tasks of adolescence are focused more on identity growth. Many
teens are not well equipped for the realities of parenthood, usually have little to no
knowledge about child development and parenting, and often romanticize the idea of
having a baby all while in the midst of gaining independence from their own parents
(Strunk, 2008). Simultaneously these girls are not physically prepared for pregnancy
and childbirth often lacking the necessary
