How did you use new media
technologies in the construction,
research, planning and evaluation
stages of your product?
Eddie Clayton
Introduction
• In preparation for my main task, I thoroughly
researched and planned, before constructing
my music video.
Research and Planning
• During the research of the main task which was to
create a music video, i frequently used YouTube to gain
knowledge of other videos, and to generate some ideas
for my own video. I analysed two relevant music videos
on YouTube, this helped me to outline the key
conventions of the genre i was portraying in my video,
Punk Rock. During the researching stages, i created a
presentation on audience research using the format of
Prezi, an online website that allowed me to create an
interactive presentation to display my work. This prezi
was based on my target audience that I would be
aiming my music video to.
Research and Planning
• I often blogged using VLE during the research
stages, this was very beneficial as i could
present all my work on one appropriate
format and track my own progress. I used
Photoshop to design how i wanted my poster
to look. I also used Photoshop when i made
my Digipak by adding writing, blurring out
objects and changing colours to connote the
appropriate mood that was representative of
the genre i was conveying.
Construction
• For the construction of my music video, i used DSLR video
cameras to obtain the footage. These cameras were
relatively easy to use, and had all the facilities i required.
Once i had this footage i uploaded it on to Imovie software,
which allowed me to edit all my clips and add transitions in
to my video. In addition Imovie also let me put the music
tracks i was using for my video on to the programme. I used
itunes to aquire the track i was using so i could play it on
Imovie. All the footage that i downloaded was put on to the
Imacs. The Imacs gave me all the necessary facilities i
needed to make the changes to my video. I also used cross
media convergence in the form of an IPAD when uploading
footage.
‘WE MEDIA’
• Once I had completed my music video, I uploaded it to
Youtube. This gave me the potential to market my
product to a mass audience. This then made me a
‘prosumer’ as I was uploading my own content to share
to the world. Dan Gilmour’s ‘We media’ theory relates
to the big global media conglomerates previously
having all the power to provide the content for
audiences. Since the birth of Web 2.0, platforms such
as Youtube now make it possible for media audiences
to produce their own content as well as consuming
other media content. This has definitely benefitted the
production and the distribution of my own music
video.
Evaluations
• When I write my evaluation questions I plan to
present them in different formats that will use
new media technology. I will use PowerPoint to
present two of my questions and the other two
questions will be presented directly to my blog.
Overall new media technology played a vital role
in the completion of my main task, as well as
benefiting me during the researching and
planning process, with the access to web 2.0
content. New media technology will also give me
a variety of ways in which to present my
evaluation questions.
