Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

- 2. How did I use technologies to create my product? Firstly got myself a digital camera and something I could use as a tripod, which in my case was a music stand. I then took all the pictures that I needed and saved them into my pictures on the computer and moved all the pictures around so that from the top to the bottom they were in order because I started at the end and mixed all the scenes up.

- 4. I then went on to PowerPoint and inserted a photo album and inserted all the pictures that I took, and it put them on separate slides. Firstly click on photo album and select all the pictures
- 5. Using slide share After I made the power point I signed up to slide share, this allows you to upload videos and power points up onto the internet and then you can link it into your blog. I filled in all my details into the boxes on my right and it was made in seconds.
- 6. Uploading slides onto slide share To upload a slide show first click upload Then select the slideshow you want to upload and let it upload.
- 7. Embedding into my blog If you click into embed above the video it will give you a link and all you need to do is copy and paste it into your blog and it will fetch the slide show straight up. Paste the link in here
