Does your church have a communications strategy? Or are you just pursuing communication tactics? In other words, do you feel like you are communicating without a singular purpose?
Church communicators are given are hard task. They are asked to share messages with a large audience while operating under a small budget, and often this is done in a part-time or volunteer capacity. To top it all off, technology changes so fast that as soon as you figure out a tool, it changes.
Wouldn't it be great if you could focus on what's really important, regardless of the specific message or platform?

Developing a Successful Social Strategy for Meetings and Events
Presenter: Gerrit Heijkoop, How Can I Be Social (HCIBS), Amsterdam, Netherlands
Brought to you by: Meeting Professionals International (MPI)
Room: Bellini 2003, Level 2
Recent studies show that as many as 75% of meeting planners use social media in their profession. However, nearly half of these planners indicate they don’t have formal processes and procedures for incorporating social media into their meetings and events in simple and meaningful ways. In this interactive session, participants will explore how to create activities before, during and after a meeting or event that attendees and audience members would be eager to share via social media.
Learner outcomes:
1. Identify issues for consideration before spending money on the use of social media at a meeting or event.
2. Understand the importance of tapping into a “second degree network” of participants and how to do so at a live event.
3. Learn best practices in the use of social media and what not to do when incorporating social media into a meeting or event.

Now that your Facebook Business Page is set up, the next question is, who would you like to connect with, and how do you build an audience?
There is no point in having an amazing Facebook Page if no one knows about it. Without an audience, you have no one to share posts with or to have conversations with.
To start building your audience, look first to your current customers or clients and supporters of your business to Like your Page. Your existing clients and supporters are the people most likely to read your posts, most likely to Share your posts and most likely to engage with your Page.

7. Start In Your Local Area
Build a Facebook page for your church.
Don’t take shortcuts (visuals and content)
Allow the congregation to help spread the message.
Have a budget for a targeted Facebook ad campaign
to broaden your reach throughout the area.
Post to your Facebook page regularly. Assign a
manager or a church member to this position. This keeps
your presence known.
16. It’s Not Just In The Advertisement!
Consistency is needed to ensure that you have the
best social media engagement for your Facebook
page.
17.
18. Testing Begins!
What every post needs:
1: Good description that shares what
The essence of your post is about.
2. A call to action inside the
Description.
3. A Great Image!!
19. Let’s Talk about Imagery
Most people can go broke buying
stock images for their social media
posts.
There are some stock photos that
you can grab for free.
Pexels.com is the best I have
found.
Once you have your image,
you’re not done.
Make sure you’re editing your
image correctly.
Canva.com has social specific
templates that you can use to
help you out.
30. Remind your congregation of
upcoming events.
Telling stories about your
community and what the church
has done.
Develop themes from popular
events the church does and
share with other churches to
give them ideas.
Fundraising
Archive worship songs.
31. Live church updates. If they can’t
come to church, use a hashtag
they can follow every church
service. When they go to the
hashtag, they can follow the
conversation. It can also be used
as a bible study technique.
example: #Jesusrocks.
Prayer Requests Search: Use a
specific hashtag for the members
of your church or anyone else to
use when they need you to pray.
Tweet everything with pictures.
32. Use Google Hangouts to
livestream your services
(YouTube integration)
Build a notification circle on
Google+ to direct message your
inner circle with
announcements.
Search engine rankings through
Google+.
Set up your Google Local and
be seen when someone
searches for a church in your
area.
33. Ideas For Social Integration
Get It Out There!
Put your social accounts on flyers,
church pamphlets, etc.
Encourage people to follow the
conversation at church.
Do a Personal church hashtag that
makes it fun for the members to
keep up with current events going
on.
Do a social competition. Whoever
gets the most retweets, likes, shares,
etc. Wins “X” prize from the church.
You can control what you want
them to say here on social.
Do a TweetChat to localize visibility.
34. And Every Time You See This….
Something awesome is
about to happen
