High School Dropout
On average, 1.2 million students drop out of high school every year, this breaks down to 7,000
students giving up their education everyday. The community should make an effort to helps students
stay in school and promote racial equality. Promoting racial equality will help because studies show
racism leads to an increase in dropouts. Students dropout for numerous reasons and the average high
school dropout ends up less successful than a graduate. There are actions that can be taken to prevent
high school dropouts. The issue of high school dropouts continues to grow as dropout rates continue to
increase.
Some people argue that if a student wants to drop out, it is their personal choice. They choose to hurt
their educational life, therefore society as a whole should not waste their time and energy attempting
to help and prevent dropouts. Although sure enough, the people can not put an absolute end to high
school dropouts but they should help who they can not. Another reason it is important to help dropouts
is because high school dropouts do not only affect themselves, but they affect the rest of the country as
well (Williams 14). A specific region or areas drop out rates play a role on the area s overall
prosperity, for areas with lower dropout rates have less criminal activity (Oreopoulos). By putting in
effort to prevent students from dropping out an individual is helping his or her neighbours. It is also
said that high school dropouts cause a loss of national income and

Xerox Xerox was originally founded in 1906 as the Haloid Company, which later became Haloid
Xerox in 1958 and finally Xerox Corporation in 1961. Xerox currently has 136,000 employees in 160
countries (www.xerox.com/about xerox, 2011). With over 130,000 employees, human resources is
vitally important to the corporation. This paper will examine how human resource professionals can
ensure that top organizational leaders encourage managers and employees to follow laws and
guidelines. It will also discuss how hiring women and minorities improved Xerox s profitability. In
addition, the changes that Xerox made to become a more attractive employer for women and
minorities will be identified. Finally, there will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A compilation of these actions allowed Xerox to increase its profitability. An organization s best
advertisement is its employees. When one is proud of where they work and their company values, they
will share that information with family, friends and anyone who will listen about the great and diverse
organization they work for. This would peak the interest of others who would also like to bring their
skills and competencies to Xerox. Next, customers are more likely to purchase products and services
from people who look like them. So to have a diverse workforce would mean that people from all
walks of life and nationalities will patron your company. Lastly, Xerox was proactive in its attitudes
towards diversity and developed programs and initiatives to address it. By promoting an inclusive
environment they took steps to alleviate and/or avoid potential complaints and lawsuits related to
discrimination in the workplace. All of these action plans added value to the organization.

Parking Problems At The New Residence Halls
Parking on campus is a recurring problem throughout the years, but the most recent of these problems
has evolved into a catastrophe for and not so much for others. As the fall term came into place, more
and more parking was taken away for the new residence halls. Students regularly admit to hoping
other students would hurry and drop some of their classes, or that the students will go ahead and stop
coming to lectures so there is more parking available and less of a burden. However, the burden of
circling parking lots and the never ending loop of frustrating continues on for the fall term and more is
to come with the lack of parking the campus wishes to offer. The OU Daily has released statements in
articles concerning the matter. The new residence halls will also provide a parking garage or parking
lot in which has a capacity of 1200 1300 parking spots. This is a nice edition for the lack of parking,
but the new residence hall took the place of an old parking lot which held the capacity of 500 600
parking spots. Yes, the parking is nearly doubled, but what good will that doubled number do in
comparison to the number of students (approximately twenty two times the quantity of parking spaces
provided in said lot). The new residence halls may further establish a slightly more extensive parking
lot than previously seen on campus, but the couple hundred more spots available is minuscule in
comparison to the quantity of students and faculty members at the university. The amount

The Theme Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Anthem, by Ayn Rand, is a book that deals with topics of power, love, and individualism, and societal
and personal differences . The theme of anthem, that individuality must be protected, is widespread
and prominent, referenced throughout the book, from the viewpoint of the main character.
This will go over the character, the time, and the setting in the book, helping to show and understand
the theme because the author can convey plot points and themed information better through the
components of the book themselves, rather than outright stating it in the book.
The character helps understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our
society, because it shows what the emotional and physical links to the society in the book, as well as
the mental states and feelings influencing the text.
The main character is named Equality 7 252 . He described himself as 6 , and he had always been
more interested in the scientific attributes of nature, rather than the job at hand. He held little regard
for the rules of the society, as shown by his disregard to law. The laws say that none among men may
be alone, ever and at any time, for this is the great transgression and the root of all evil. But we have
broken many laws, (Rand )
This character helped understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our
society, since the character is , while struggling to maintain his own individuality. ...and we would
work for our brothers, gladly and willingly, ...What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to
obey?... (Rand). This quote helps support the theme in the novel by showing Equality s individuality
in different parts of the book. At the beginning, he denied his individuality and tried to blend in with
the conformist society, while at the end, he accepts and treasures his individuality. This relates to the
theme by showing that his individuality is treasured and valued by him.
The character and the setting work together to help find the theme in multiple ways. The characters
lives and works in the setting, while the setting and society helps influence the main character. The
setting shows where the character lives in the world, and how the culture in

Apology By Plato Analysis
Reading Reflection: Plato In one of Plato s works Apology , Socrates attempts to defend himself in
court of law where he is being prosecuted on corrupting the youth. While defending himself, Socrates
also defends his choice of receiving a death penalty, rather then testifying against his beliefs. Although
he makes some very strong and valid arguments, lots of readers would wonder why would such a wise
man choose death over his life. Socrates was a man that was on a mission is search of the truth about
wisdom. As a philosopher he would never settle for one simple answer, he would take every angel of
an argument therefore even a simple idea would be argued until his opponent would be frustrated
enough to quit. During his defense Socrates states, A man who really fights for justice must lead a
private, not a public, life if he is to survive for even a short time (Apology 36). Socrates is arguing that
due to politics corrupt nature, anybody that wants to fight for justice must stay out of the public eye.
To back up his claim, Socrates brings up an example from his past when he served as a member of the
Council, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even today, anybody that has ever been a part of a social group that makes decisions, political or not,
most likely ran into this issue. When Socrates states that a man who really fights for justice must
follow a private life, he implicates that people should make their own decision, based on their own
beliefs, not based on others. Don t just agree with others and make an assumption that they are correct.
Expand your horizons and think outside the box, think about yourself and what you think is right. If
you are positive that you are correct, do not be afraid to speak up and stand up for yourself. However,
at times others attempt to punch those who do not follow along with their agenda. Therefore, most of
the people just go along. Following others is not always the wisest

Poverty Influences Children s Early Brain Development
Poverty Influences Children s Early Brain Development
Children have been the topic of many research studies and debates throughout history. Scientists,
educators, social workers and teachers have debated the importance of nature and nurture in children s
development. Our ideas of children are shaped greatly by the portrayal of children through media.
Producers, journalists, and writers have the power to either portray children as passive or active agents
in their development of social, academic and life skills. The authors assumptions and personal beliefs
of children or childhood can be identified through the way they represent children in their writings. In
the article, Poverty Influences Children s Early Brain Development the author reports the effect that
poverty has on the development of infants and young children s brain size. Developing children are
portrayed as passive, relying on the guidance of parents, caretakers and the community, rather than
being seen as active agents who can utilize an innate ability to learn, and overcome any obstacles,
including poverty. The author focuses on the idea that children, while developing, are dependent on
stimulation from others: parents, relatives, caregivers and the environment to learn socio emotional
skills that impact their ability to learn in the future. The author s perspective of children as passive
beings can be inferred from his selection of quotes included in his article. For example, in the news

The Socratic Method In Euthyphro
The Socratic Method is a very famous method of questioning that is not very known, although it is
very important, even today. It inspires the respondent to dig deeply and think about the question with a
new mind and new freedom which is obtained by discarding the previously held beliefs. The Socratic
Method is valued because it allows people to live their lives in virtue. Living a virtuous life means to
be honest, respectful, courageous, forgiving, and kind. One who lives a virtuous life is able to live a
happy life. While reading The Euthyphro by Plato, I came across the use the Socratic Method. The
Socratic Method is useful in that it enables a person to live a virtuous life. The three parts to the
method are: the questioner claims to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

accurate definition of piety to prove to Socrates that it is right to prosecute his own father. Socrates
asks for a standard definition of piety, so he could figure out what was pious and what was not; a list
of examples does not really do that. Socrates than gives Euthyphro a chance to give a more honest, so
he is able to live in Virtue. The second definition is a step up from the first, giving an actual definition,
not just an example. Euthyphro then agreed with Socrates that it was a poor definition and thought of a

The Relationship Between Solicitors And Society
The relationship between solicitors and society is a unique one. If law is the system of rules which a
particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members , then solicitors
are the agents who operate in its vast framework, acting as a voice for the people. In this sense, it is
undeniable that the legal profession exists to serve society as well as the court. Because of the nature
of this relationship the conduct of solicitors is paramount in ensuring that public trust is maintained in
the services solicitors offer. This has resulted in the public expectation that solicitors conduct
themselves in an ethical manner. When describing conduct, there are many possible definitions of
ethics. In the oxford dictionary ethics is defined as Moral principles that govern a person s behaviour
or the conducting of an activity . Tracey Calvert (a regulatory compliance specialist and member of
the policy team which drafted the SRA handbook) defines ethics as Behaviour which defines the
characteristic between professional and employer . When applied in the context of law, these
definitions suggest that a set of values should shape the behaviour of solicitors, as well as their
relationships with their clients. This is supported by Professor Andrew Boon s definition of legal
ethics where he defines the term as The study of the relationship between morality and Law, the values
underpinning the legal system, and the regulation of the legal services

The Color White Analysis
The color white has many meanings ranging from innocence to light. For weddings, a white dress
means purity while a white piece of paper means a clean slate. All of the meanings seems far fetch to
the people who consider themselves indecent even if they want to change. In this play Willie fits into
this group of people. The blank paper appears several times in the dialogue which shows that it has
some significance to Willie. She evens compares the sky to to color of a clean piece of paper (1090).
Willie s life is no where near fitting for a thirteen year old, and she maybe rethinking her past while
talking to Tom about her time in school. She tells Tom about how Miss Preston would give Willie the

The doll is falling apart do to age or neglect (1083). Willie is telling Tom all of these wonderful stories
about her inherited beaux and Alva while holding the doll. Everything seems innocent, but there is a
hidden meaning behind the her doll. Williams describes Willie as childlike and laughing randomly
while resembling a doll with her makeup (1083). Willie tells Tom that she is worried about washing
the dolls hair because of the doll s compound fracture (1088). She says, I think that most of her brains
spilled out. She s been acting silly ever since. Saying an doing the most outrageous things (1088). The
doll s compound fracture and brains spilling out represents Willie after losing her parents and sister
while now being homeless. Spilling brains can make a person go crazy and so can losing all of their
family members like Willie. She evens refers herself as being peculiar to Tom in the beginning of their
conversation (1082). Since her parents are gone, Willie looks up to Alva instead. She learns to sleep
with men from her sister which is an outrageous thing to do for a thirteen year old. Although she is
talking to her doll in the dialogue, Willie is speaking of herself. The doll resembles Willie in some
ways. She still tries to convince Tom that her life can be extravagant, but the doll is showing

Mexican Themed Menu Of Chili
Chili s originated with wanting to become a place for people to hang out with good company over
some food and a drink or two. This restaurant is about creating a connection with family and friends
that integrate over the love of food. The first location was opened in Dallas, Texas in 1975. It was first
a post office before it became a little hangout place named Chili s. The company was founded by
Larry Lavine which is now taken over by Brinker Incorporated. Larry s idea of Chili s was going to be
a laidback place where people can have fun and hangout. He wanted a menu that was affordable to
people and wanted to create American food using a Texan Mexican themed menu. In 1983, Larry was
smart to sell the company to Brinker Incorporated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also a place where coaches bring their teams too after games, so you will see people in their
uniforms. They serve everyone and treat them like a family. There is a 99% chance that there is a Chili

it actually became one of my favorite restaurants. This can be considered ethnic in the sense of their
cuisine. The American food served with a Texan Mexican theme can be served from a burger to
chicken fajitas. They serve chips and salsa and also have fries with toppings as appetizers. There is no
going wrong when customer come in and want to have the best of both worlds. I actually went to Chili
s tonight with the SXU Women s Basketball team. All of the girls on the team made all their free
throws at practice and Coach uses a restaurant of a player s choice as an incentive to help reach the
goal of 100% in free throws that day. If someone were to ask the team where they eat the most, the
answer would be Chili s, Panera Bread, or Barraco s (which is Coach s favorite). The service was so
great I was impressed by the staff. I know when Coach makes reservations, they are here to impress
and please Coach and the team. He is a well respected man and I am sure every restaurant would be
happy to help accommodate our team. We love going to Chili s, many of the girls know the drill on
helping their staff and help times move by faster.

This Boy s Life Analysis
In the memoir This Boy s Life the readers are introduced to Jack, a troubled boy who struggles
through his adolescence. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile environments,
and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began to create a new life,
in his mind. This concept was shown throughout the whole memoir. For example, in this quotation,
And on the boy who lived in their letters, the splendid phantom who carried all my hopes, it seemed to
me I saw, at last , my own face. (214). Imagination was Jack main source of escape from what he truly
was. Jack pictured himself as one of the elite, a football star, and 4.0 student. While in reality he was

In our culture today we are taught to be yourself, and never lie. Which is why I surprised and intrigued
by this quote, and everything that related to it. I wanted to understand Jack s life, because I have never
experienced anything close to his life. Thus bringing me to how this quote related to the meaning as a
memoir as a whole. Imagination brought Jack into a wonderful life, yet it was fake. This allowing him
to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other people s outlooks on him. However,
Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger
never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this
shows that imagination never truly makes things better, but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was
learned that only working hard, and keeping out of trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was
expressed throughout the memoir to allow the readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s
life. Overall, the quotation helped me understand Jack s use of imagination, and even the true meaning
of the memoir as a

One of the first assignments we had in this class was to write a paper discussing our goals and
aspirations for the upcoming semester in this class. The three main goals I focused on in that first
paper were to make new friends and meet new people, to become more confident in everything I do,
and to learn to preform and use my voice when acting and/or speaking in front of others. I think with
the help of my professor as well as the help from my classmates, I achieved all of these goals I had
hoped to, along with accomplishing many other things I did not expect to. I believe this class helped
me in many ways.

The final goal I hoped to achieve this semester was to learn to preform and use my voice when acting
and/or speaking in front of others. Over the span of the semester we have learned many techniques in
this class that I think have really helped me when preforming not only in this class but also in my
other classes. I have learned to project my voice to the entire class and be confident when I present.
Usually when I present I have a problem with talking way to fast, this class has taught me how to
control this. I have learned to take a breath when I am starting to talk way to fast. Learning how to
become a good speaker and presenter will help me in my future classes as well as with my future
career.
Upon graduation I plan on becoming a nurse. My dream job is to work in the labor unit with
newborns. Although with this job I will not have to do many presentations, these goals I have worked
to achieve in this class will help me in my job in the future. The most important will be being
confident in everything I do. I will have to be confident in my knowledge of the subject and also with
how I present the information with the patients as well as with my coworkers. This is similar to this
class. I learned to be confident when

Change is a process that affects individuals and their environments. Some people choose to embrace
change, while others resist it. Macbeth ; the song The Times They Are A Changin and the episode of

how individuals and societies can embrace or resist change.

Techniques including metaphor and symbolism are used to display the notion of change and attitudes
towards it.
Dylan represents how change can be violent by expressing it as a flood. Floods are known to be
violent, dangerous and natural. The symbolism of the water is also important. In Literature water is
used to represent life, therefore inducing the notion that change is a part of life and inevitable.
Metaphorically change is a flood, waters...have grown...better start swimmin Or you ll sink like a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hyperaccumulators
The capacity for taking the metals depends on species to species and their surrounding environment
especially microclimate. However, hyperaccumulation of the species depends on three basic features
that distinguish hyperaccumulators from related non hyperaccumulators group. Basic hallmarks are;
[a] A rapid and significant root to shoot translocation of metals
[b] A potential capability of taking up heavy metals from the soil
[c] A much greater ability to detoxify and sequester huge amounts of heavy metals in the leaves If we
compare the root to shoot translocation of heavy metals in hyperaccumulator and non
hyperaccumulator then it is found that non hyperaccumulator retain the heavy metals in root cells
taken from the contaminated sites or sludges and then detoxifying them by chelation in the cytoplasm
and then storing them into vacuoles, while in hyperaccumulaors there are rapid and effective
translocation of heavy metals takes place. It is found that large quantity of organic molecules in small
quantity is present in hyperaccumulator roots that can operate as metal binding ligands. Free amino
acids play an important role in heavy metals hyperaccumulation in plants. Such amino acids are

Descartes Meditation 2 Analysis
Meditations One
The first Meditation concerns the things that can be called into doubt. Descartes explains the reasons
for why we should, and can doubt all things around us, including substance and all material things. He
also discusses the senses and their use of helping us to perceive and understand. He also talks about
perceptions and dreams, how there is no definite way to separate your dream experience from your
waking experience, therefore it is possible to be dreaming now and to not know it. He argues that the
images we form in dreams that can only by made up of parts of real experiences, which in the end can
be put together in different ways. Because of this, our perceptions of our own experiences can be

Meditations Six
Meditations six concerns the existence of material things and describes the separation of the mind and
the body. In this, he talks about how the soul is the separation of the mind from the body. Together,
they form one being, but separate, the soul can live on forever, it is immortal and can also form with
other bodies at different times.
Problem
A problem that I found initially was that in Meditations Six, Rene Descartes claims that when the
mind losses the power of imagination, they are still the same entity as before, nothing substantial or
required to survive that is lost. I believed this to be false because the power to imagine unlocks hidden
power, for your mind to bend, divide, move, and analyze substances that are not there. To envision
yourself subtracting two numbers in your head is just a phenomenon in itself. To say that using your
mind to separate and abstractly look at something is incredible. It allows you to prepare yourself for
life s challenges, to remember the past, and to dream about the future. Without that kind of power, our
essence would be completely changed. We would not have something that drives us

Essay About Co-Sleeping
The Truth About Co Sleeping
When it comes to Co Sleeping there are so many people that are against it but then there is a lot of
people that actually recommend co sleeping. Co sleeping is when a parent sleeps with their newborn
child in the same bed or fall asleep on a couch or rocking chair with their newborn in their arms. Many
say that co sleeping increases the chances of SIDS if the parents smoke, consume alcohol, take
prescription medicine, are heavy sleepers or if they allow the infant to sleepy on their tummy. There
are also many that say it can decrease the chances of SIDS because a mother is more sensitive while
asleep with the baby next to them, they can feel the baby breathing pattern, every move, and if a
problem arises the mother can attend to the infant faster than the baby being in a crib in another room.
It may also all depend on the parents; how they setup a safety sleeping arrangement for the newborn in
their bed by removing extra sheets, pillows, blankets, or buying a infant portable sleeper.
A study from American Academy of pediatrics have shown that co sleeping can increase the chance of
sudden infant death syndrome. The study was based off a child death report database, they divided the

things on the beds or have been doing things that may increase the chances of SIDS. Of course im not
saying that you have to sleep with your child in the same bed but I believe as a mother of three it is
safer to have a newborn in the same bed as you, even if it is in a portable infant sleeper, if you avoid

The Pros And Cons Of Homogenity
The Truth Untold...
God made all men equal . This is what we have been told by our wise elders since childhood. Even the
holy scriptures belonging to various religions teach the same. But history is a witness for every act and
deed which contradicted this moral which we have been learning, where majority of a kind cornered
the minorities and exploited them; first on the basis of gender, then color, followed by religion and
then by nationality and then by language and so forth. But this does not end here. Individuals have
been oppressed even on the basis of their orientation(sexuality) and gender identity, not just in the
recent times but far to longer than we can guess.

They don t want to spend years debating an issue. They want it homogenized, sanitized, and above all,

that deliberateness, it turns out, is their strength. They take time to think through complex problems
before they act. People, however, are different. People react first from the gut and then from the head.
And when such people are in power, policy becomes instinct rather than thought.
During the British raj of the 1860s, the colonizers introduced a law, now popularly known as IPC
section 377. This criminalized every sensual activity that was against the order of nature or in simple
words, did not lead to reproduction. This same law still prevails in the constitution, making the lives
of the rainbow people miserable, making them vulnerable to threats, hate crimes, physical abuse,
extortion and a lot more. The transgender community or the hijras are the people who are affected by
this the most. Where many customs demand blessings of the third gender, many people grunt when a
transgender crosses their way. This marginalized and economically backward section has faced untold
tortures. Due to unemployment, many of them sell themselves to earn their bread whereas the rest beg

Jerry Tello Analysis
The presentation that Jerry Tello gave was like none I ve been to before. It was very entertaining and
informational all at once. There were a few parts that really struck a cord for me, but I m going to
focus on one particular one because I understand and relate to it and I find it extremely irritated by
how more and more children don t know, agree with or understand what s wrong. He described how
one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his mother when she was asking his
to do something and he was spanked by his father for the first and only time in his life.

Your job is to provide, teach and support your children. More specifically, to teach them how to be
able to function in the world. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not just
you. If you re not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially important for
you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how discipline works into the
situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or children will do is try to pin you
guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and my siblings tried to do...it only worked
once). It s good to catch disrespectful behavior early if possible. If your child is rude or disrespectful,
it s not good to turn a blind eye. Giving consequences when children are younger will pay off in the
long run. It may sound old fashioned, but I find that it s very important to teach your child basic
manners like saying please , may I and thank you. If you think about it, when your child deals with
their teachers, others outside the household or even gets their first job these common manners will
really go a long way and using manners is also a form of empathy. It also teaches your children to
respect others and acknowledge their impact on other people. As a parent myself (though my child is

to me. Some young ladies say It means representing myself, my family, and my tribe to the best of my

eyes it is much more than representing my family, my tribe or even myself this title has a lot more
meaning if you really think about it. The title Miss Shoshone Bannock is a very respectable and

The Nature Of Thomas And St. Thomas Aquinas
Thomas was conceived in 1224 or 1225 in the château that his respectable and affluent family
possessed in Roccasecca, on the edges of Aquino, close to the popular nunnery of Montecassino,
where his folks sent him for his underlying training. He later moved to Naples, the capital of the
Kingdom of Sicily, where Frederick II had established a renowned college. There, the youthful
Thomas was acquainted with and was educated without the impediments in compelling somewhere
else the thoughts of the Greek logician Aristotle, whose extraordinary esteem he instantly saw. St.
Thomas Aquinas was the best medieval logician. He attempted to demonstrate the amicability
amongst confidence and reason, and amongst Christianity and logic.
Reason covers what we can know by understanding and rationale alone. From reason, we can realize
that there is a God and that there is just a single God; these facts about God are open to anybody by
experience and rationale alone, aside from any unique divine revelation. Confidence covers what we
can know by God s extraordinary disclosure to us By confidence, we can realize that God appeared on
the scene through Jesus Christ and that God is triune. These certainties about God can t be known by
reason alone. Confidence expands on reason. Since confidence and reason are both methods for
touching base at the truth and since all certainties are symphonious with each other confidence is
steady with reason. In the event that we comprehend confidence and

have the opportunity to choose various work schedules, such as coming in and leaving early (6am 2pm
or 7am 3pm) or by coming in and leaving late (9am 5pm or 10am 6pm). The advantages of a flexible
work schedule are countless for both the employer and the employee. Flexible work schedules provide
more flexibility for employees in both their personal and professional lives. This type of scheduling
allows employees to feel liberated with the freedom and control over their work life, thus reducing
levels of distress and strain ( Flextime, ). Other major advantages of a flexible work schedule include
increasing employee morale, minimizing tardiness, decreasing absenteeism and reducing company
turnover ( Flextime, ). Of course this type of scheduling has its disadvantages. Flexible work

will prove to be more difficult because people are working different schedules. Other disadvantages
include lack of supervision during some hours of work, unavailability of key people during certain
periods and the possibility of understaffing during critical periods ( Flextime, ). Telecommuting

Social Control through Works of Fiction
Vampire stories have universal themes that provide the backbone for every dark tale. The unholy
essence that any vampire story provides sets the stage for the message that the Church is the way of
life and will save you from creatures of evil. From in class readings, we can see all the major religious
themes of the classic vampire story. The common religious theme is the abscess of light is the absence
of holiness and is the path to eternal damnation. Darkness is the prime universal fear of humanity
mostly because we, as a species, are not nocturnal creatures; therefore, we have developed a fear of
the predator filled darkness of night. Using figurative descriptions of darkness as the enemy, the
Church preaches the way of the light. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cross burned into his flesh like a hot coal. He snatched back his hand but the burning metal clung.
He felt the heat of it coursing up his arm, and hurled it savagely across the room (Miller). This burning
sensation that the cross gives vampires is the Churches connection and reminder that someone or
something that does not follow the way of the cross will be burned eternally in Hell. Vampire
protection is the Church s way of creating fear that will ultimately lead to the fearful turning back to
the Church for protection and guidance. With the turn of sexual culture in the Victorian Era, Church
leaders needed to establish a way to regain a tight grip on society as a whole.
Comparable themes in vampire stories and Biblical stories are evident within the class readings. The
story of Shambleau by Catherine L. Moore begins with a mob on the hunt for a creature by the name
of Shambleau, only to be confronted by a man by the name of Northwest Smith who is opposed to
giving Shambleau up to the crowd. This confrontation of an angry crowd show striking resemblance

Animal Testing Is A Catastrophe
Animal testing is a catastrophe. Do you agree? Animals play a significant role in our existence, they
involve in food chain and help in the sustainability of bio diversity. Unfortunately they entered the
scientific field through the experiments of new drugs. The utilization of creatures in exploratory
investigations in the UK can be followed back at any rate similarly as the seventeenth Century with
Harvey s analyses on various creature species intending to show blood flow. Crosswise over Europe,
the utilization of creatures in experimental examination started to grow over the nineteenth Century, to
some degree upheld by the improvement of analgesics which had already made creature research
incomprehensible. In 1876, parliament passed the Cruelty to Animals Act, the principal enactment
went for directing creature tests. Over the late nineteenth and the twentieth hundreds of years, the
extension of restorative science implied that the quantities of creatures utilized as a part of
examination extended relentlessly, quickened by the Medicines Act, 1968, which gave a clearer
manual for the utilization of creatures in wellbeing testing in the wake of the Thalidomide catastrophe.
The quantity of creatures utilized rose to more than 5.5 million in 1970 after which indicate the
numbers started decrease quickly. This extensive development mirrored a developing therapeutic field;
creatures had impact in most medicinal advances of the twentieth century including

Compare Hinduism And Hinduism
Buddhism and Hinduism are two popular religions that were found in India. It is commonly thought
that Buddhism and Hinduism are very similar religions, some may even think they are the same. This
thought comes up for many reasons including their spiritual practices, place of origin, and the problem
they believe life has. To many, it would be a surprise to learn how different these two religions truly
are from one another regardless of how much they resemble each other. Hindus tend to see the world
in a you get what you give type of way. They believe that every action one makes will affect their
future in one way or another. Samsara is the continuous cycle of life, death, and reincarnation. If one
acts good, they will in turn get good karma, leading to a better next life. If one behaves badly on the
other hand, they will obtain bad karma which will lead to suffering in the next incarnation. Hindus
believe a person can be born in different varieties, in each variety ones soul or atman is kept but the
body in which they are in can change. The atman can form into a human or any other living creature
mainly depending on its karma. Each variety is another chance for their atman to attain good karma.
Hindus also believe in the caste system, each caste has its own duties, or dharma . One must fulfill
these duties and maintain good karma in order to work their way up the caste. The higher up in the
caste system they are the better quality of life a person has. A legend has

Persuasive Essay On Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is such a cool concept in technology. It s something that a lot of people are at the very
least intrigued by. Maybe not something that they think about or look up on a daily basis, but
something that they may keep an eye on. I mean Google has sold over 5 million Google cardboards
and has shipped over 10 million of them. For those that don t know what Google cardboard is, it s a
virtual reality platform that Google made ( a cardboard headset) that you put on your head that you
use in conjunction with your smart phone that can give you a virtual reality like experience. What you
do is download some compatible apps, put your smart into the Google cardboard. Put it on your head
and have some fun. I m very interested in virtual reality and what the future holds for it. Especially
being a person who loves to play video games. I haven t gotten a chance to get my hands on a
Playstation VR yet, but at some point I would love to try it out. Playstation VR for those that don t
know is Sony s virtual reality device that you use with a Playstion 4. Playstaion has over 100
compatible games with the Playstaion VR and that just amazes me because it just released back in
October of 2016.
Also there was an anime (a Japanese cartoon) that came out a few years back called sword art online
that peaked my interest in virtual reality. Sword art online is set in the near future and focuses on
various virtual reality MMORPG s (Massively Multiplayer Online Role playing games).

Pawn The King
The Pawn or the King?
A contradictory pair exists in the psyche of humanity. We somehow believe that we are both the
metaphorical center of the universe and involved in some greater plan over which we have no control
or no significant effect. The 1951 movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, directed by Robert Wise,
shows both of these ideas: the existence of a higher power in the form of a more intelligent alien race
and the self importance placed upon a people by themselves specifically a nation. The dichotomy
between humanity s egoism and its desire to shun responsibility prevents us from fully accepting one
or the other. Egoism is not a uniquely human characteristic. However, it is something humanity takes
to the next level. Primates and other hierarchal animals express the innate nature that is self interest.
For male lions, this self interest is the only thing that keeps them alive. Contrary to popular belief, it is
the female lion the lioness that forms the foundation of the pride. The lioness does the hunting, the
nurturing, and the defending of the pride. Male lions have slim chances of survival on their own, and
unlike the lioness, genetic (or familial) ties do not keep it in the pride. When ousted, they must fight
for, scavenge or even steal food. The final goal of the male lion is to become part of a pride, as their
escort, performing duties but also securing food for itself. A male lion will fight males in the pride for
their positions of security. Its individual

Categorizing Different Gaming Systems
History of Game Systems:
Gaming systems have come a long way since 1967 when the very first video gaming console, the
brown box, was introduced to the world. It was invented by Ralph H. Baer who is also known as The
Father of Video Games . It was created in such a way so that it could be hooked up to any kind of TV
set. Games available for the console were simple virtual games such as Ping Pong, volleyball,
handball, chase games, light gun game, etc. This one device started somewhat of a revolution and
brought new ideas to various companies and leads on to various adaptations and segues to make the
branded consoles appealing to the public
After the brown box, the following made an appearance: (1972) The Magnavox Odyssey made its
outbreak as the world s first home video gaming console.
(1975) Pong is referred to as the first commercially prosperous video game, which actually led to the
start of the video game industry. Due to the success of this game system, several companies began
making games that copied Pong s gameplay, and ended up releasing new types of games.
(1977) Atari 2600 (VCS) was the first successful console with interchangeable cartridges that also
included 128 bytes of system ram.
(1980) Released by Mattel in 1979, The Intellivision video game console began development in 1978,

Rico s Story Meaning
I decided to pick the song Rico s Story Part II because of the intense story line. The song tells a story
of a man named Rico who is going through a lot of hard times with people and his own individual life.
The song is broken up into three portions but the second version is my favorite. It is the uprising of the
song where everything begins to fall into place and events start to unfold. The point of the song is

Analytical Essay Bicycle Safety On Essex
Bicycle safety on Essex The following analytical essay will analyze and interpret issues that are
interesting, puzzling and controversial in the short story Bicycle Safety on Essex . The essay will
mainly deal with issues such as racism and racial prejudice, which are either interesting, puzzling and
controversial. First, there s the interesting issue with Cleve. According to Noah, the humiliating event
in Essex was not the first time Cleve was questioned by the authorities. This can be seen in the
following quote If you fucking assholes arrest him again one more time just because he s black and I
m not, I m going to kill myself! . This shows that Noah, at such a young age, knows that Cleve is
being detained and questioned by officers based only on his skin color, which in fact can be called
racial prejudice. Although it is unfortunate for Cleve and Noah, it is quite uncommon for a dreaded
black man to walk around with a small white boy and especially at night. ... Show more content on

The most puzzling part of the story is how the narrator ended up sitting in the back of a civilian police
car and his description of the two police officers. This can be seen in the following quote And I d
spent all night in this bogus taxi with about 850 pounds of white beef . In this quotation, the narrator
tells us that he has spent the whole night in a bogus taxi with two police officers which he describes as
white beef . This bursts his objective view throughout the story, therefore making him a subjective
narrator. A point which has not been mentioned yet is how the police had allowed a writer to ride with
undercover officers, which is very puzzling since the writer can interfere with the officer s

Essay Aboriginal Customary Laws and Australian...
Aboriginal Customary Laws and Australian Contemporary Laws
Aboriginal customary laws, before white settlement in 1788, were considered primitive by the British,
if considered at all. But Aboriginal laws and customs had lasted hundreds of years, based on traditions
such as kinship ties and rituals.
These laws were formed by ancestors, spirits, and Aboriginal beliefs, and were passed down the
generations by word of mouth instead of written down. Being over 500 tribes (each with it s own
clans) in Australia at one point, there were many variations to their guidelines, customised to each area
of the land. Although the laws varied throughout the ages, this way of life remained until white
settlement.
The roots of Australian laws are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children were taught how to be proper children until they were old enough to be told their adult
customs.
Australian laws have two forms, public and private law. Public law is an individual versus the
Australian government, for example, criminal law, constitutional law and environmental law. It
involves public bodies, public matters and is the concern of everybody in Australia. Private law
involves disputes between private citizens or entities, for example, contract law, family law and
probate laws.
Traditional Aboriginal marriages were very different to English marriages and Australian marital laws
today. Aboriginal girls were to be married when they reached puberty, and were married to much older
men, who could marry (and have numerous wives) once a certain age. This meant that sex at a young
age was acceptable.
Australian law states that no person can legally marry until the age of 18, or have sex until the age of
16, and it is socially unacceptable for people to have numerous partners. Australian law declares under
age sex as child abuse and a criminal offence.
All Aboriginals were involved in their customs and laws, with rules being imposed by the
communities. Each clan was tight knit and respected their ancestry and customs.
Punishments varied, depending on the severity of the crime committed. Types of punishment included
revenge, social ridicule, ostracism, insulting, spearing (aimed at the leg, but sometimes resulted in
death) and death by

The community should make an effort to helps students stay in school and promote racial equality. Promoting racial equality will help because studies show racism leads to an increase in dropouts. Students dropout for numerous reasons and the average high school dropout ends up less successful than a graduate. There are actions that can be taken to prevent high school dropouts. The issue of high school dropouts continues to grow as dropout rates continue to increase. Some people argue that if a student wants to drop out, it is their personal choice. They choose to hurt their educational life, therefore society as a whole should not waste their time and energy attempting to help and prevent dropouts. Although sure enough, the people can not put an absolute end to high school dropouts but they should help who they can not. Another reason it is important to help dropouts is because high school dropouts do not only affect themselves, but they affect the rest of the country as well (Williams 14). A specific region or areas drop out rates play a role on the area s overall prosperity, for areas with lower dropout rates have less criminal activity (Oreopoulos). By putting in effort to prevent students from dropping out an individual is helping his or her neighbours. It is also said that high school dropouts cause a loss of national income and ... • 4. Parking Problems At The New Residence Halls Parking on campus is a recurring problem throughout the years, but the most recent of these problems has evolved into a catastrophe for and not so much for others. As the fall term came into place, more and more parking was taken away for the new residence halls. Students regularly admit to hoping other students would hurry and drop some of their classes, or that the students will go ahead and stop coming to lectures so there is more parking available and less of a burden. However, the burden of circling parking lots and the never ending loop of frustrating continues on for the fall term and more is to come with the lack of parking the campus wishes to offer. The OU Daily has released statements in articles concerning the matter. The new residence halls will also provide a parking garage or parking lot in which has a capacity of 1200 1300 parking spots. This is a nice edition for the lack of parking, but the new residence hall took the place of an old parking lot which held the capacity of 500 600 parking spots. Yes, the parking is nearly doubled, but what good will that doubled number do in comparison to the number of students (approximately twenty two times the quantity of parking spaces provided in said lot). The new residence halls may further establish a slightly more extensive parking lot than previously seen on campus, but the couple hundred more spots available is minuscule in comparison to the quantity of students and faculty members at the university. • 5. The Theme Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand Anthem, by Ayn Rand, is a book that deals with topics of power, love, and individualism, and societal and personal differences . The theme of anthem, that individuality must be protected, is widespread and prominent, referenced throughout the book, from the viewpoint of the main character. This will go over the character, the time, and the setting in the book, helping to show and understand the theme because the author can convey plot points and themed information better through the components of the book themselves, rather than outright stating it in the book. The character helps understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our society, because it shows what the emotional and physical links to the society in the book, as well as the mental states and feelings influencing the text. The main character is named Equality 7 252 . He described himself as 6 , and he had always been more interested in the scientific attributes of nature, rather than the job at hand. He held little regard for the rules of the society, as shown by his disregard to law. The laws say that none among men may be alone, ever and at any time, for this is the great transgression and the root of all evil. But we have broken many laws, (Rand ) This character helped understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our society, since the character is , while struggling to maintain his own individuality. ...and we would work for our brothers, gladly and willingly, ...What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?... (Rand). This quote helps support the theme in the novel by showing Equality s individuality in different parts of the book. At the beginning, he denied his individuality and tried to blend in with the conformist society, while at the end, he accepts and treasures his individuality. This relates to the theme by showing that his individuality is treasured and valued by him. The character and the setting work together to help find the theme in multiple ways. The characters lives and works in the setting, while the setting and society helps influence the main character. The setting shows where the character lives in the world, and how the culture in ... While defending himself, Socrates also defends his choice of receiving a death penalty, rather then testifying against his beliefs. Although he makes some very strong and valid arguments, lots of readers would wonder why would such a wise man choose death over his life. Socrates was a man that was on a mission is search of the truth about wisdom. As a philosopher he would never settle for one simple answer, he would take every angel of an argument therefore even a simple idea would be argued until his opponent would be frustrated enough to quit. During his defense Socrates states, A man who really fights for justice must lead a private, not a public, life if he is to survive for even a short time (Apology 36). Poverty Influences Children s Early Brain Development Poverty Influences Children s Early Brain Development Children have been the topic of many research studies and debates throughout history. Scientists, educators, social workers and teachers have debated the importance of nature and nurture in children s development. Our ideas of children are shaped greatly by the portrayal of children through media. Producers, journalists, and writers have the power to either portray children as passive or active agents in their development of social, academic and life skills. The authors assumptions and personal beliefs of children or childhood can be identified through the way they represent children in their writings. In the article, Poverty Influences Children s Early Brain Development the author reports the effect that poverty has on the development of infants and young children s brain size. Developing children are portrayed as passive, relying on the guidance of parents, caretakers and the community, rather than being seen as active agents who can utilize an innate ability to learn, and overcome any obstacles, including poverty. The author focuses on the idea that children, while developing, are dependent on stimulation from others: parents, relatives, caregivers and the environment to learn socio emotional skills that impact their ability to learn in the future. The author s perspective of children as passive beings can be inferred from his selection of quotes included in his article. For example, in the news ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This has resulted in the public expectation that solicitors conduct themselves in an ethical manner. When describing conduct, there are many possible definitions of ethics. In the oxford dictionary ethics is defined as Moral principles that govern a person s behaviour or the conducting of an activity . Tracey Calvert (a regulatory compliance specialist and member of the policy team which drafted the SRA handbook) defines ethics as Behaviour which defines the characteristic between professional and employer . When applied in the context of law, these definitions suggest that a set of values should shape the behaviour of solicitors, as well as their relationships with their clients. This is supported by Professor Andrew Boon s definition of legal ethics where he defines the term as The study of the relationship between morality and Law, the values underpinning the legal system, and the regulation of the legal services ... This restaurant is about creating a connection with family and friends that integrate over the love of food. The first location was opened in Dallas, Texas in 1975. It was first a post office before it became a little hangout place named Chili s. The company was founded by Larry Lavine which is now taken over by Brinker Incorporated. Larry s idea of Chili s was going to be a laidback place where people can have fun and hangout. If someone were to ask the team where they eat the most, the answer would be Chili s, Panera Bread, or Barraco s (which is Coach s favorite). The service was so great I was impressed by the staff. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile environments, and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began to create a new life, in his mind. He went to the Hill school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this shows that imagination never truly makes things better, but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was learned that only working hard, and keeping out of trouble brings honest good fortune. Problem A problem that I found initially was that in Meditations Six, Rene Descartes claims that when the mind losses the power of imagination, they are still the same entity as before, nothing substantial or required to survive that is lost. I believed this to be false because the power to imagine unlocks hidden power, for your mind to bend, divide, move, and analyze substances that are not there. Many say that co sleeping increases the chances of SIDS if the parents smoke, consume alcohol, take prescription medicine, are heavy sleepers or if they allow the infant to sleepy on their tummy. There are also many that say it can decrease the chances of SIDS because a mother is more sensitive while asleep with the baby next to them, they can feel the baby breathing pattern, every move, and if a problem arises the mother can attend to the infant faster than the baby being in a crib in another room. It may also all depend on the parents; how they setup a safety sleeping arrangement for the newborn in their bed by removing extra sheets, pillows, blankets, or buying a infant portable sleeper. A study from American Academy of pediatrics have shown that co sleeping can increase the chance of sudden infant death syndrome. In 1876, parliament passed the Cruelty to Animals Act, the principal enactment went for directing creature tests. Over the late nineteenth and the twentieth hundreds of years, the extension of restorative science implied that the quantities of creatures utilized as a part of examination extended relentlessly, quickened by the Medicines Act, 1968, which gave a clearer manual for the utilization of creatures in wellbeing testing in the wake of the Thalidomide catastrophe. The quantity of creatures utilized rose to more than 5.5 million in 1970 after which indicate the numbers started decrease quickly. This extensive development mirrored a developing therapeutic field; creatures had impact in most medicinal advances of the twentieth century including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because there is little room for mechanical improvement in processing cattle due to their inconsistency in size and weight, companies are still reliant on physical labor to process the meat (Schlosser 239). This shows that the methods that are used today have not changed drastically from the methods that people had to use nearly half a century ago. Within the factories, most of the workforce consists of illegal immigrants, whom are unable to find jobs anywhere else. The documentary Food Inc. discusses this problem in a scene looking at working conditions in slaughterhouses. The documentary articulates that, being a meat packer in the 1950′s was like being an auto mechanic. It was considered to be a decent job with a decent wage, benefits, and a pension plan. Now, it is the most dangerous job and employs many immigrants. • 37. Pawn The King The Pawn or the King? A contradictory pair exists in the psyche of humanity. We somehow believe that we are both the metaphorical center of the universe and involved in some greater plan over which we have no control or no significant effect. The 1951 movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, directed by Robert Wise, shows both of these ideas: the existence of a higher power in the form of a more intelligent alien race and the self importance placed upon a people by themselves specifically a nation. The dichotomy between humanity s egoism and its desire to shun responsibility prevents us from fully accepting one or the other. Egoism is not a uniquely human characteristic. However, it is something humanity takes to the next level. Primates and other hierarchal animals express the innate nature that is self interest. For male lions, this self interest is the only thing that keeps them alive. Contrary to popular belief, it is the female lion the lioness that forms the foundation of the pride. The lioness does the hunting, the nurturing, and the defending of the pride. Male lions have slim chances of survival on their own, and unlike the lioness, genetic (or familial) ties do not keep it in the pride. When ousted, they must fight for, scavenge or even steal food. The final goal of the male lion is to become part of a pride, as their escort, performing duties but also securing food for itself. A male lion will fight males in the pride for their positions of security. Its individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analytical Essay Bicycle Safety On Essex Bicycle safety on Essex The following analytical essay will analyze and interpret issues that are interesting, puzzling and controversial in the short story Bicycle Safety on Essex . The essay will mainly deal with issues such as racism and racial prejudice, which are either interesting, puzzling and controversial. First, there s the interesting issue with Cleve. According to Noah, the humiliating event in Essex was not the first time Cleve was questioned by the authorities. This can be seen in the following quote If you fucking assholes arrest him again one more time just because he s black and I m not, I m going to kill myself! . This shows that Noah, at such a young age, knows that Cleve is being detained and questioned by officers based only on his skin color, which in fact can be called racial prejudice.
