Horror Movie Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of horror movies might seem like a daunting task initially. The
genre itself is vast and multifaceted, encompassing a wide range of subgenres, themes, and
cinematic techniques. As a writer, delving into the realm of horror movies requires a careful
balance between analysis and personal interpretation.
Firstly, one must navigate the extensive history of horror cinema, spanning from classic black-
and-white films to modern psychological thrillers. Understanding the evolution of the genre is
crucial for contextualizing the significance of certain movies and the impact they have had on
both cinema and society.
Moreover, the psychological aspects of horror movies add another layer of complexity.
Analyzing the ways in which filmmakers manipulate fear, suspense, and tension requires a keen
eye for detail and a deep understanding of the human psyche. Unraveling the motives behind the
creation of iconic monsters or the use of specific settings demands a meticulous examination of
narrative choices and visual elements.
The cultural and societal implications of horror movies also play a significant role in
constructing a comprehensive essay. Exploring how these films reflect or challenge societal fears,
taboos, and anxieties involves research into cultural contexts and historical moments that
influenced the creation of certain horror subgenres.
Furthermore, articulating personal insights and opinions about individual horror movies adds a
subjective touch to the essay. However, striking a balance between objective analysis and
personal interpretation can be challenging, as opinions about what makes a horror movie
effective can vary widely.
In conclusion, writing an essay on horror movies requires a deep dive into the genre's history, a
nuanced understanding of cinematic techniques, a grasp of psychological elements, and an
exploration of cultural and societal influences. The challenge lies in weaving these aspects
together into a cohesive and engaging narrative that not only informs the reader but also sparks a
deeper appreciation for the horror genre.
If you find yourself overwhelmed by the complexity of this task, or if you simply need
assistance with academic writing, a variety of resources are available. Platforms like

Essay On The Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies
Throughout the novel, Lord Of The Flies, by William Golding, there are multiple
objects through the novel that have a large impact on the group of boys. Some
objects or materials are brought into the book that might help them in a specific way,
or even influence the killing of some boys, but none of them had been an influence
for as long as the conchshell was. Objects came and went throughout the novel, but
the conch really stuck to the boys on the island, influencing them from beginning to
end in physical and mental ways. Overall, the conch shell is hands down one of the
most important of not, then the most important object that is brought into the novel,
and brought up throughout the novel. In the beginning of the novel, the conch is
considered a significant part of it, because of the ways that it helps the boys. The
two boys that found the conch in the beginning of the novel were Ralph and Piggy,
who had just gotten off of the crashed plane on the deserted island. Ralph and Piggy
then spotted it after talking for a little while sitting in the mud in a lagoon. When
they finally got it out of the lagoon, they exchanged comments about it, with both of
them passing it back and forth to each other. Piggy was holding when he made the
comment, a conch; ever so expensive. I bet if you wanted to buy one, you d have to
pay pounds and pounds and pounds.... (Golding 16). He made this comment, because
he and Ralph both valued it as a very important item to them, that they would end
Does General Haig Deserve to Be Remembered The Butcher
of...
Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig (19 June 1861 29 January 1928) was a senior
commander in the First World War (WWI), and perhaps one of the most notable
figures in British Military history. Although he served as the commander of the
British Expeditionary Force (BEF) from 1915 to the end of the war which was one
of the greatest victories in Britain s militaryhistory the involvement during the Battle
of the Somme, lead him to become one of the most criticized Commanders in the
WWI. The Battle of the Somme is the battle with one of the highest casualties in
Britain military history, alongside with the highest single casualties in the whole
history of British military.
General Haig was the commander of the BEF in the battle.

I m very bitter; always have been and always will be and everybody else that knew
him. He lived almost 50 kilometers behind the line and that s about as near as he
got. I don t think he knew what a trench was like. And they made him an Earl and
gave him ВЈ100,000. I know what I d have given him. The source has clearly
showed how Haig treats his soldiers stay 50 kilometers away the front line and
giving commands when he is feeling good.
Alongside Fred, David Lloyd George, British Prime Minister during the First World
War, writing in his War Memoirs (1935) had mentioned that Haig was a second rate
Commander in unparalleled and unforeseen circumstances... He was not endowed
with any of the elements of imagination and vision ... And he certainly had none of
that personal magnetism which has enabled great leaders of men to inspire
multitudes with courage, faith and a spirit of sacrifice ... He was incapable of
planning vast campaigns on the scale demanded on so immense a battlefield.
Incapable and the lack of kindness to his soldiers make him unavoidable to suit the
battle of the Somme . Idealism perished on the Somme. A.J.P.Taylor, a socialist
historian, writing in a specialist history book, The First World War, (1963), had also
claimed that: The enthusiastic volunteers were enthusiastic no longer. They had lost

The Effect Of Communication On The Satisfaction Of A...
Why take another look at communication again? because most studies that have
been done, do the same thing over and over. They use self reports that are coded
themselves or that the research will have the participants code, tons of different
questionnaires that take time for the participants to do, and it is really not relevant
for the new generations. With the studies that have been done, almost half of all
first marriage still end in divorce. It looks like the system that we use to study and
try to help curb this just isn t working, because of the measures that are used it just
speak to the generation anymore. This study is different, it will use a video game as
the measure to study the effects of communication on the satisfaction in a
relationship. The video game doesn t take much time, and time is very important to
this generation that is always on the go. It is also a lot more relevant for this
generation of couples as well. This study will also be looking at specifically
communication in a stressful situation, which the studies have not covered before.
This is important because every couple as arguments and by studying this hopefully it
will curb the amount of arguments in the relationship and help lower the first
marriage divorce rates. There was a study done just recently that looked at whether
communication predicted satisfaction or satisfaction predicted communication? The
study didn t really find whether one predicted the other.(Lavner, et al, 2016, p. 1 15)
BTK Killer Criminological Concepts
The purpose of this essay project, is to summarize a serial killer, and identify three
criminological concepts from the course, that I believe led the person to engage in
criminal activity. The serial killer that I have selected for this essay project is ,
Dennis Rader, better known as the BTK Killer . The concepts that can be related to
why Rader committed this crimes are Hedonistic serial Killer, and Motivated by
terror.
Dennis Rader, or the BTK Killer , first committed his murder in 1974 when he killed
the Otero family in their home. He strangled all four of them , and when he was
done he took several souvenirs and even left semen on the scene, because he derived
sexual pleasure from the killing. Later , Rader, committed another crime,
Commentary On The Novel Missing
I chose this novel because it looked interesting. I thought it looked interesting
because the horse with the girl on the cover and the name of the novel, Missing it
was very compelling. I have always been interested in novel s that evolve animals,
and when I saw the horse I thought it might be a good novel. I have also read some of
the authors other novel s and I thought they were very interesting too.
The information I needed to know before reading the novel was the main character,
the background knowledge of her life and where everything was going on. The
main character is a teenager name Thea. Thea doesn t have many friends because
her and her dad are always moving. The novel takes place in a small town in the
Cariboo.

saying yes right away he thinks about it first. He eventually said, Yes. , and got the

neighbours is a classmate of Theas and they start becoming friends. One night
Thea goes into the barn to go check it out and memories of her Mom come back
from when the last time she was in a horse barn. Ever since then she and her Dad
have never been around horses. There are no horses in the barn but, when she
looks in to the corral she notices a big black horse with white down it s face. The
next day she asks Tully about the horse he says The horse was here when he
bought the place . The old owners bought it and the horse wouldn t let any one
touch it so when they left they left the horse here too. The horse is not very
friendly and he thinks it was abused. She doesn t tell her Dad about it because,
Thea is scared what he will say. Ever since her Mom died from a horse accident he
doesn t like talking about horses. Now, Thea is trying to build trust with the horse
before telling her Dad.
Thea is telling the story, it is in first person point of view. The setting of the novel
is in Canada. The setting is important because it is based in the real world not in a
fantasy world. Some problems that are happening is that Thea trying to make friends
and trying to build trust the horse abused horse. The novel has held my interest
because the author makes me want to know what will happen and where everything
will lead to the
Alternate Nostril Breathing Exercise Analysis
There will be 6 different breathing exercises that have different levels of difficulties
and when the exercise works best. 1.) Equal Breathing : begin by inhaling for a
count of 4 and exhaling to a count of 4. All with the nose which provides a natural
resistance to the breath. This calms the nervous system and reduces stress for the
body by providing balance.
Works best: Anytime and anywhere. It is especially effective before bed if one is
having trouble sleeping. It is similar of counting sheep and takes your mind off of
distracting thoughts.
Level of difficulty: Beginner 2.)Abdominal Breathing Technique: Place one hand on
your chest and one hand on your stomach. Take a deep breath in through the nose to
ensure the diaphragm expands with enough air to stretch the lungs. The goal is to
take around 6 to 10 deep breaths per minute for 10 minutes each day. This experience
will allow your heart rate and blood pressure to decrease. ... Show more content on

This can help one who is in a stressed state of mind to control their breath and calm
them down.
Level of difficulty: Beginner 3.) Alternate Nostril Breathing : This exercise is to bring
calm and balance by connecting the left and right sides of the brain. First start by
being in a comfortable upright pose then hold the right nostril with your right thumb
and inhale deeply with your left through the left nostril. At the end of the inhalation,
close the left nostril with your ring finger on your left hand then exhale with your
right nostril. Continue the process by inhaling through the right nostril and closing it
off with your right thumb then exhale with your left nostril.
Works best: Whenever you need to focus. It reenergizes and awakes you like a cup of

Foot Locker Traces Its Origins
Foot Locker traces its origins back to the year 1879, after Frank Woolworth opened
his first store, Woolworth s Great Five Cent Store in Utica New York. He was a
New York native who was the son of American Civil war captain, John Hubbell
Woolworth and his wife, Fanny Mcbrier ( Biography of Frank Winfield Woolworth
2005). The couple married in 1851 and one year later, Frank Winfield Woolworth
was born. His childhood was filled with memories of hard work and scarcity. Mr.
Woolworth would work long hours on his father s farm and would barely have
enough money to scrape buy. This became evident when he took a trip to
Watertown, NY to buy a 50 cent scarf for his mother and was ridiculed by
shopkeepers for trying to buy with change. The trip also allowed the young man to
come across another store where he was able to buy a similar scarf for 5 cents and
a wide variety of other cheap goods. On top of that, the staff were much more
courteous as they provided a satisfying attitude for all customers, regardless of
social background. Such quality service prompted Mr. Woolworth to open his first
store in 1879 that would mirror such quality to the public. His business model
worked as he was able to incorporate his company in 1904 to become the famed F.W
Woolworth Co. . Almost 50 years later, the company would surpass the one billion
dollar value mark. After that, Woolworth and Co. would acquire the G.R Kinney
Corporation in 1965, the corporation that started Footlocker nine years

Medea s Role Of Women In Ancient Greece
Amongst Euripides most famous plays, Medea went against the audience s
expectations at his time. Indeed, the main character of the play is Medea, a strong
independent female who neglected moral and . She was therefore in all ways
different to how women were perceived in Ancient Greece. This essay will explore
how Euripidescontroversial characters demonstrate that his views were ahead of his
time.
Ancient Greek society was ahead of its time politically speaking. Indeed they
iniciated the concept of democracy. Of course, this democracy did not include
everyone in Greece; male citizens dominated society and had full legal status. They
were divided in three classes depending on wealth. Females on the other hand had
few rights, they were obliged to stay at home and bear children. Once married to a
man chosen by their father, women were under the authority of their husband.
Divorce were tolerated under three conditions : Repudation by the husband, he did

Roles Involved In Fireworks
The Role of Black powder in Fireworks
Fireworks are a device containing gunpowder and other combustible chemicals.
Fireworks cause spectacular effects and explosions when ignited. They are most
commonly used for display on in celebrations (William Collins Sons Co, N/D).
Fireworks are spectacular as they produce amazing bursts of colour that form a
variety of shapes. 2 main reactions occur in fireworks to produce their magnificent
display. Stars are used to create the colours in fireworks after their explosion
(Dingley, 2015). Black powder is used for the propulsion of the aerial shell into the
air. The Black powder also causes the bursting of the aerial shell causing the stars to
be released (Antonis, 2010).

Meaning the element gains electrons during the reaction. This occurs with the nitrogen
in the potassium nitrate (reactant) and the Nitrogen (product). The oxidation number
of nitrogen in the potassium nitrate is positive 5 and the oxidation number of the
nitrogen is 0. Therefore during the reaction the nitrogen has gained 5 electrons.
Therefore this classifies as a reduction reaction.
The potassium nitrate in this reaction is a spectator ion as it does not react or change
form. This is due to the potassium always being in a compound meaning it never
changes charge.
Fireworks utilize an array of chemical reactions and different chemical compounds to
produce a spectacular display of light and sound. These chemical reactions include
redox reactions, combination reactions and displacement reactions. All of these
chemical reactions equally take part in the production of the light and sound of the
The Cause Of Tornadoes In The United States
A tornado is a violent windstorm that cause destruction of buildings, houses, cars,
roads, and many more important things. Tornadoes happen mostly between the rocky
mountains and appalachian mountains which is why they are also known as tornado
alley. They have the most tornadoes each year in the U.S. Just because tornadoes
occur most in tornadoalley that does not mean there aren t tornadoes anywhere else.
As a matter of fact no place is safe, tornadoes can happen anywhere in America. The
cause of Tornadoes are hot temperatures, cold temperatures, and humidity all coming
together. The warm air rises, but at the same time the two fronts are meeting, the
cold air barricades the warm air beneath it. The warm air is trapped below
Toyota Culture
Human Resource Development in Toyota Culture
The article first appeared in the International Journal of Human Resource
Development Management. It addresses the role of HR in a lean enterprise, explores
a major crisis of trust at Toyota s plant in Georgetown, Ky., and how it responded by
reorganizing the HR function.

Introduction
From the founding of Toyoda Loom Works in the 1920s to the creation of Toyota
Motor Co. in the 1940s, its leaders believed that the key to success was investment in
its people (Liker, 2004).

This example reveals that Toyota is far from perfect and experiences serious
problems and gives insights into how Toyota responds to problems by getting to the
root cause. The paper concludes with a discussion of some of the cultural issues that
affect the ability to create a Toyota like HR system in America.
What is the Role of HR in a Lean Enterprise?
The concept of lean production was first introduced in The Machine that Changed the
World (Womack et al., 1991) to refer to a new way of looking at the manufacturing
enterprise. It was distinguished from mass production by its single minded focus on
eliminating waste in all aspects of the enterprise.
An enterprise exists to add value to customers through a series of activities that
transform inputs into outputs and anything other than the minimum needed to
perform that value added function is waste.
Toyota was the original model for lean and the concept of just in time epitomized the
focus on waste elimination only make exactly what is needed, in the amount needed,
when it is needed.
In fact the just in time principle is one aspect of a broader philosophy represented by
the Toyota production system. In TPS, the just in time concept is one pillar and the
other is to build in quality at every step of the process, not allowing defects to
propagate through the value stream. The
The Reasons Of Louis XVI, A Reign Of Terror
In the years from 1789 to 1799, many agree that they French revolution was a reign of
terror. During this time, the monarchy in France had undergone major change and
finally was overthrown by the unhappy French citizens. There were many reasons for
this action of overthrowing the government, some of which being high taxes, which
only the third estate had to pay, the lack of participation that king Louis and Marie
Antoinettehad shown whilst in power towards ruling the country. Louis XV may
have left France in a bad economic and social state and therefore the problems may

manner. Their last child died quickly after her birth and the two boys died during

luxury lifestyle with all the gardens and performances that they had arranged for
themselves at the palace. The interior of the palace was finished off with gold trim
everywhere whilst there were people who lived on the streets. All there hobbies
were funded by the high raised taxes that had to be paid by the third estate. Soon
this created hatred amongst the French citizens towards the king and queens
because they were living on the streets without fresh food and no money. Soon the
French citizens stormed the palace of Versailles and imprisoned the royal family at

Furthermore, aggregate planning affects NCO s production schedule in much of the
same way because the aggregate plan defines the product production and duration.
There are various costs factors associated with carrying inventory. Chase, Jacobs, and
Aquilano (2003) stated that such costs include storage facilities, handling, insurance,
pilferage, breakage, obsolescence, depreciation, taxes, and the opportunity cost of
capital (pg. 546). Furthermore, in NCO s case, they have an issue with carrying
excessive inventory on products that do not get immediately sold; consequently, they
have an issue with alleviating the excess inventory. However, high holding costs tend
to favor low inventory levels and frequent replenishment.
NCO should make a few changes to improve their current supply chain troubles. They
should examine how NCO s marketing department derives their forecasting numbers,
and they should try to run a more effective Just in Time (JIT) manufacturing process.
First, NCO s marketing section should adopt a combination of the Time series
analysis and Qualitative, Grass roots forecasting techniques. If they use historical data
along with current market trend inputs from NCO s sales force, they will be able to
prepare a more accurate forecast. Second, NCO should redesign their current
manufacturing processes and utilize JIT manufacturing principles. Introducing these
new processes should help NCO to produce the correct
Martin Luther King Principles Essay
Principles prompt activity, impel motion, direct choices. A principled person
always has a place to stand, knows where he or she is coming from and likely to
end up. Principles always lead the person who possesses them somewhere, for
some purpose, to do something (Byron). Principles serve as the foundation for a
system or belief. To most people, it makes sense that a religion would have a set of
principle beliefs; much less often, however, are the principles of an individual
acknowledged
Martin Luther King Jr. was a prime example of an individual whose strong
principle foundation gave him the means to stand up for his beliefs. Within King s
writing, Letter from Birmingham Jail, he makes a blanket claim of his stance by
stating, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Injustice anywhere is a
threat to justice everywhere. Simply put, King stands for justice. His principle
belief that every person no matter their race deserve equal access to means propels
him to take action. He realized that there were consequences for his belief
particularly jail. Despite knowing this was where he would undoubtedly end up, he
stood behind his belief that humans of all races deserved to feel dignified and
accepted in society, as well as have equal opportunities for voice and action
(involvement in various outlets).
Having discussed King s general set of principle beliefs, one can now compare them

Dark Matter Of Love. Masha had a very difficult time adjusting with her new
family because she couldn t understand them and the family felt overwhelmed with
3 adopted children from Russia and you could tell by the way the parents acted.
But, overtime she and the other two adoptees learned to love, care ad be happy
with their family. Which goes to show that once you adjust and take things at a
slow and steady pace that everything turns out for the best. I also believe this goes
in hand with Stryker s central argument that if new parents had the same way of
thinking like the Diaz s, that maybe they wouldn t reach the point of distress and
turn to the evergreen model. Stryker s main point is that there are different ways to
get help for your child, and that you don t need to basically torture them for them to

Timothy The Apostle
Timothy was a young disciple of the apostle Paul. He was a man of God and a pastor
of the
church of Ephesus. He was a Galation who s family lived in Lystra, his mother and
grandmother were faithful Jewish women who taught him the faith. What is so
admirable
about Timothy was that he probably saw Paul being beaten and stoned in the streets
countless times, but it didn t stop Timothy from pursuing a discipleship with the great
Apostle. His journey was rough, filled with travel and hard work. He learned so much
knowledge about taking care of the church with Paul who taught him everything he
knew
and was a great example to him his entire life. Paul looked at Timothy not only as a
very
trustworthy friend, but also as a spiritual son. He guided Timothy, showing him how

Timothy took care of Paul more than
once while he was in prison or in a different city preaching the Gospel. He earned a
trustworthy position and also a place in God word as one of the great men we have as
an

in the
bible we see the main person, but we fail to see his trusted friends and companions
who
served them so well and are just as important in the process as the main person in the
story.
Timothy is one of those people in the story of Paul. If it wasn t for Timothy, Paul

Powerful Enlightened Depots
Enlightened despotism is defined as a form of government in the 18th century in
which absolute monarchs pursued legal, social, and educational reforms inspired by
the Enlightenment (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). The magnitude of the
philosophy movement known as the Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western
society. The philosophers believed that in order to improve society they had to
enlighten the monarchs. The views of the Enlightenment did to find their way inside
the palaces of Europe s leaders; however, the monarchs retained their great power of
absolute rule. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great
of Prussia, Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. These leaders all
attempted to bring their respective countries into a new age. The basis of enlightened
despotismwas the idea of improving the lives of a country s citizens. This concept of
leadership during this time was ultimately a good idea, but it was not successfully
exercised to its fullest extent. From a young age, Frederick the Great took a great
liking to culture and literature. He was especially infatuated with the language and
lifestyle of the French. The French philosopher Voltairewas a friend to Frederick and
had a great influence on his Enlightenment ideals. He initially hid his love of the
Enlightenment during his reign, but later he began to realize how the philosophies of
the movement could actually advance and fortify his state. He
The Bite Of The Mango
While reading The Bite of the Mango, there are many traumatic events Mariatu
experiences. Even these events are extremely devastating, heartbreaking, and life
changing, Mariatu learns to seek the positives in her situations to make her life
more joyful. The first traumatic event that Mariatu experienced was her little
brother Santigie dying when Mariatu was 6 years old. Over the past years, Mariatu
has formed a strong bond with him through playing and talking. When he died, in
order to cope with her loss, she imagined that Santigie could be a spirit watching
over her. I was walking one day, I thought I could hear his voice calling me. I
turned to look, but there was no one there. This happened several times over the
next year. (Kamara 19), mariatu proclaims. These occurrences made Mariatu think
that Santigie was truly a spirit looking over her. Mariatu contemplating this
assumably helped her cope with her issues by thinking that Santigie is in a better
place now, looking over her shoulder. An additional traumatic event occured when
Mariatu gets attacked by the rebels in her home village. She experiences many
people she knows getting not only murdered, but also tortured mentally and
physically. In order to get through what is happening to her, she relies on god;
Please let me die quickly. Let it be over quickly, too. Don t let the rebels cut my body
piece by piece. (Kamara 35). Although Mariatu wasn t trying to live, she tried to deal
with her fear by praying to god
The Buddha From Gandhara And Theotokos Of Vladimir
After looking at all the themes listed, the theme of Picturing the Divine: Gods,
Goddesses, Prophets, Buddhas, and Saints caught my eyes. Out of this theme, I
picked two incredible works of art, Meditating Buddha and Vladimir Virgin. When
you first look and read the title of the theme I choose, it may cross your mind that my
theme has something to do with religion. Meditating Buddha from Gandhara and
Theotokos of Vladimirmay come from different cultural traditions; however they both
share the same general theme of picturing the divines.
The Meditating Buddha or Seated Buddha from Gandhara is an early statue of
Buddha from Gandhara, Pakistan. This work of art is from the Culture of Buddhism
and was made around the 2nd or 3rd century. Buddhism still exists today and is one
of the leading religions in the world, which explains why the statue is still well
known to this day and why it is still represented over and over again throughout
history. The statue is now located in Room 33, British Museum in London.
On the other hand, Vladimir Virgin is a medieval Byzantine iconof the Virgin and
Child. Virgin Mary is seen as the holy protector of Russia. Like I said earlier, it is
one of the most respected Orthodox icons and an early example of iconography of
the Eleusa type. The icon is displayed in a gallery called Tretyakov Gallery in
Moscow. The icon was believed to be painted in Constantinople sometime around the
11th and 12th century. The theme I picked is associated with
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Going To The Movie
Theatre
The lights begin to dim until you can barely see what is around you. The smell of
butter is in the air as you recline your seat back till you are nearly vertical with the
floor. Then a bright light shines in front of you, so massive it is impossible to miss.
It is finally starting. The movie is finally starting. There is a significant reason why
people occasionally go to the movie theatre to watch a movie rather than just watch
the movie at home. Going to the theatre means tons of popcorn, extra comfy seats, a
dark and loud room, and a giant screen. Going to the movies is a whole experience
in itself. Have you ever had a bad experience at the movie theatre though? One
where your shoes begin to squeak because you step in someone s spilt slushy or as
you sit in your chair you hear the crunch of the previous person s left over popcorn
underneath you. Not only does this situation make you frustrated and irritated, it
also distracts you from the movie you went to the theatre to see. If you have a bad
time at the movie theatre, you may not even remember the movie you went to see
because you are distracted by all the things around you. In this case, going to the
movie theatre actually takes away from the movie itself. Going to the movie theatre
should let you become totally engrossed in the movie and even enhance the movie
itself. When one goes to a movie theatre it needs to be clean. The floors should be
clean and dry not wet and sticky. The seats should be spotless with no sign
We Wear The Mask Personification
In the poem We Wear the Mask, author Paul Laurence Dunbar uses figurative
language in many instances. Personification, one of the figures of speech most used
by Dunbar, can be seen continuously throughout his poem. For instance, in the first
line of the first stanza, Dunbar uses personification when he writes We wear the mask
that grins and lies because the mask is portraying human like qualities. The mask
represents how the subjects of the poem, African Americans, display a physical image
that completely differs from what they really feel mentally and emotionally. Despite
the misery and despair that they underwent during the time in which this poem was
written, which was in the late 1800 s, African Americans demonstrated an image of
nothing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same number of syllables are used in a grand majority of his lines, which
maintain a steady rhythm all throughout the piece in this case, it s 8 syllables per
line. Dunbar, by using a clear tone of both anger and sadness in his poem, makes it
notable that he is also an African American who has to hide his emotions behind
the mask . Apart from the tone he uses, Dunbar also uses the pronoun we which
automatically informs the reader that he s included in the group of people he s
writing about. He makes his rage at having to hide his true emotions well known in
the beginning of the poem, as well as his despair at the end of the poem when he
states that the world will dream while continuing to wear the mask . In other words,
he says that they will remain hopeful while continuing to hide their sadness behind a
fake smile. Dunbar s overall statement in We Wear the Mask is that these African
Americans, including himself, not once revealed all of the sadness, anger, and agony
they went through; they simply smiled and faked their happiness while they were
anguished and hurting inside, probably to avoid provoking conflict with Caucasian
groups of people. The purpose of this title was to inform the reader of the
exasperating struggle African Americans had to endure during this period of time due
to race inequality, all in a total of three stanzas and 15
Women In WWII
During WWII, the role of Canadian women in the labour force greatly amended the
rise of women, in terms of their struggle to achieve equal status with men in society.
The position of women in Canada had always been placed limitations on in order for
them to fit with the female stereotypes of the time. When WWII came around, things
began to change, and those changes caused differences in the lives of women. In
Canada, many women took on nontraditional military positions, dared social
stereotypes and turned down traditional roles after the war. This effectively
demonstrates how the participation of Canadian women in WWII was one of many
crucial steps towards the start of genderequality in Canada.

Primarily, women participated as an important role in WWII, and even after the
war they continued to remain in the work force to achieve equal status with men in
society. By 1950, the overall rate of women s participation in the workforce had
risen to 32%, a net gain of 16% from 1940 1950. During WWI, women were mainly
working in factories, while the men were at war. But, when war ended, women
were forced to return the work to men again, since they were not considered as
persons, therefore they had no say in society. However, after WWII, women
refused to return to traditional roles like doing household chores. This can be
shown from the steady increase of women in the workforce after WWII. It triggered
gender equality, since women were treated similar to men, in terms that this time
women were not forced to return their work and had the right to continue working.
Additionally, women refused to return to traditional roles, since many wars
occurred after the WWII and they still wanted to remain playing a nontraditional
role in the military. Susan Beharriell, who served in the Canadian air force,
remembers being told she couldn t fly in a high performance jet aircraft because my
female parts would be damaged. It was quite a thrill breaking the sound barrier at

Business to Business (Industrial) Markets * Business to business markets consist of
companies that buy products or services to use in their own businesses or in making
other products. Institutional Markets * Institutional markets include a wide variety
of profit and nonprofit organizations such as hospitals, government agencies, and
schools that provide goods and services for the benefit of the society. Reseller
Market * The reseller market includes what we often call middlemen. Resellers
include wholesalers, retailers, and distributors who buy finished or semi finished
products and resell them for a profit. Approaching the Market * Planners need to
develop a strategy for approaching the market. Because consumers in a market are
seldom uniform, markets must decide whether to treat the market as homogeneous
(that is, as a single, large unit) or as heterogeneous (a market composed of separate,
smaller groups known as segment). Undifferentiation versus Segmentation
Approaches * When planners treat the market as homogeneous, they ignore
differences in the market and rely on one marketing strategy that will appeal to as
many people as possible. This market approach is known as an undifferentiated or
market aggregation strategy. * Few
The Americas And Afro Eurasia
In the late 1500 s the start of The Colombian Exchange and the settling of
Europeans in the Americas sparked a chain reaction of events that would forever
change the way we tell the history of that time. It also just may have altered the way
we advanced as a species and interacted with one another from that point on. There
were many changes that took place in everyday life in both the Americasand Afro
Eurasia because of the events of this time period. Some of them more obvious than
others, but all were important in their own respect.
Advances in technology included farming techniques, written alphabet, weapon
and firearm capabilities, and building techniques took place. Religion was also
brought from Afro Eurasia into the Americas for the first time. There was also a
huge exchange of plant life, which both sides were impacted by. Naturally this
included crops grown for food. This had a large impact on the availability of
certain products in both Afro Eurasia and the Americas. It also changed some of
the cuisine, having an affect on popular foods and just simply what was available
in certain areas. Not only was it plant life having a profound effect on the foods
people ate, but also animals. There were a large number of animals that were new
to both sides of the Exchange. Some of these animals could be raised on a ranch for
their meat like, pigs, cattle, chickens, sheep, and goats. Others to be ridden for
transportation, work or just as companions like horses and dogs.
The Main Causes of Global Warming
Global warming is the rise of temperature of the Earth. The main cause of global
warming is the greenhouse effect. The way humans behave is the reason that
greenhouse gas trap more heat. Automobiles are the main cause of the greenhouse
gases to to trap the heat. Global warming doesn t completely mean a constant rise in
temperature, it is mainly a change in temperature.in patterns.
The two major greenhouse gases include methane and carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide
and methane normally come from Earth s atmosphere. The greenhouse gases are
enhanced because of our human activity. The greenhouse gases are known as
synthetic chemicals.

Global warming heats the ocean temperature and deteriorates the reefs leaving fish
without homes. The reason the heat affects the reefs is because it bleaches them.
The heating of the ocean can also give the reefs several different types of diseases.
The diseases are bad because the reefs support entire ecosystems. The reefs are
capable of absorbing carbon dioxide which makes them sick and kills them
eventually. The ice caps are melting due to global warming, which means water
levels rise. When water levels rise it is harder for reefs to get the sunlight they need
to survive.
Global warming is causing our main deserts to dry up even more. It is causing all
of the the water in the desert to evaporate constantly. Some areas out there where it
is still wet will receive long dry weather until precipitation occurs. Water levels are
expected to drop nearly 30% in the next few years. Warm air in the tropics is heating
up which means there will be more tropical thunderstorms, this will give the deserts
and other dry places not in the tropic region a longer and tougher drought.
Global warming can mean getting warmer, and when it gets warmer the water
evaporates into the air which gives hurricanes more water and stronger winds to
work with. Future hurricanes are expected to be more similar to the strong ones in
the past. For example the tornados will be more like Katrina and Irene. The
hurricanes will be a serious problem for people living

These authors simulate probabilities of default and default costs on zero down
payment loans and then compare the results with conventional underwriting
standards. They estimate that, if low income borrowers are enticed by zero down
payment requirements and if no adjustment for the higher default rates is made,
the cost of the implicit subsidy would amount from $74,000 to $87,000 per million
dollars of lending. Quercia et al. (1995) show that a lower loan to value (LTV)
ratio at the time of origination (i.e., higher down payment) leads to lower default
rates for rural, low income borrowers. These authors focus on the 1981 Farmers
Home Administration Section 502 program and show that, while
contemporaneous equity value in rural low income mortgage loans is not
associated with default, crisis events are. Van Order et al. (2000) find, however,
that the default behavior of both low income and average income groups is
responsive to negative contemporaneous equity, while default rates and default
losses are higher for low income borrowers. Moreover, the influence on credit risk
of individual and neighborhood income is small for LTV less than 80 percent, but it
ranges from 15 up to 50 basis points for very high LTV ratios. Enticing low income
mortgage borrowers with lower down payment requirements thus Increases the risk of

Hamlets Oedipus Complex Essays
Various works of literature contain characters who embody the elements of the classic
Oedipus Complex, that of a son with an undue and unhealthy attachment to his
mother. D.H Lawrence amp;#8217;s Sons and Lovers, along with other early
modernist works, shows how a son amp;#8217;s bond to his mother can lead to that
character amp;#8217;s major downfall. Even earlier than works of the late 19th
Centurydoes the Oedipus Complex appear, in this case, William Shakespeare

Steve Harmon Character Analysis
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION INVOLVEMENT Steve Harmon Steve Harmon is
a 16 year old black man who is being convicted of felony murder and participating
in a holdup at a drugstore. Steve grew up in a bad neighborhood and on multiple
occasions admired the tough thug guys and even wanted to be like King (pg 96).
His flashbacks show us that Steve did talk to King, Johnny and Cruz about a
planned holdup, (pg 50) though in court he outright lies and says that he never
talked to either one of them about anything important enough to remember (pg
226). When in prison, Steve is terrified of the other guys and guards (pg 96) and
gives us the impression that he is innocent and doesn t belong there. Steve wants to
make himself different than the other guys in his mind and the mind of the jury,
but he goes through hard times where he sees himself as just another criminal (pg
129.) He proves to be a pretty good kid in his film class with Mr. Sawicki (pg 234)
and loves his little brother, Jerry (pg 58). Steve sees himself as a good person,
though he admits that he has made mistakes. Steve s biggest struggle throughout the
novel is against his moral, as he tries to figure out if he really he is a monster like
Petrocelli called him. Filmmaking becomes his way of coping with the environment
while on trial. Through his screenplay his can separate himself from his inner and
outer fears and make sense of his experience. Filmmaking allows Steve to look at
things from an outside perspective. Kathy
The Treatment Of Bibi Haldar By Jhumpa Lahiri
This excerpt from The Treatment of Bibi Haldar by Jhumpa Lahiri has multiple
themes, but one that really stands out above others is the effects of ignorance. One
would disagree with my choice of theme, but one must not be so rash with their
disagreement, first you must look at the writing techniques and the choiceof words
that Lahiri uses in the excerpt. The ignorancein which I talk about circulates around
Bibi s family. If Lahiri describes her events in chronological order, which I believe
she does, then we can see that in the first paragraph, the family first expresses their
ignorance of this poor girl s illness when they contact priests, religion, etc. in order to
heal their daughter instead of official medical specialists. In the following paragraph,
the author informs us of the many specialists in the medical field that the family had
contacted in regards to Bibi s ailment. None of... Show more content on

MRI Vs Ultrasound
An ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, more commonly known as an MRI,
are two common ways doctors obtain pictures of what is happening in one s body. An
ultrasound uses soundwaves to penetrate human flesh. As these waves encounter
things of varying density in the body, the waves are reflected back differently. Due to
these waves reflections, the ultrasoundmachine can formulate an image in real time,
and physicians can interpret these pictures to give diagnoses (No Author, 2008). On
the contrary, an MRI uses a powerful magnet to align atoms in the body. These atoms
create their own rotating magentic field which a scanner can identify and create a
picture from (Lewis, 2014). Although an MRI gets higher quality images and scans
through bone and air, an ultrasound is ultimately better and more commonly used
because it is cheaper and more accessible.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the ultrasound s use of sound waves to create its images, it cannot scan
through air or bone because the waves cannot be reflected back; therefore, no
image can be created when scanning air or bone. On the other hand, since an MRI
uses a magnet to pull hydrogen atoms from water to create a new magnetic field, it
can take high quality pictures of air and bone. For example, an MRI can take a
fantastic picture of the lungs, while an ultrasound cannot scan the lungs because they
are huge air pockets with nothing to bounce sound waves back to the ultrasound
machine. MRIs are also better for taking pictures of parts of the body obscured by
the bowel (Rubin, 2016). Furthermore, while the MRI procedure takes longer due to
the magnet s rearranging magnetic fields, the picture is much better than an
ultrasound s live feed. For these reasons, an MRI has benefits over an ultrasound as
seen in the clearer images and the scanning through bone and
Legend Of Orpheus Comparison
Throughout Opera s long history, the myth of Orpheus has been one of the genre s
most recognized stories. Many operas have been based on the Greek legend of
Orpheus. The legend of Orpheus tells a story of the demigod musician whose
songs conquer Hades itself with their beauty. The use of music in the Greek legend
serves the same purpose, as music does in operas, to show the power of music, and
how it can change emotions, and how intertwined music and love is. This tale of
love, a love so strong it can overcome death, shows how true passion can bring
music to life. The Operas show that music is able to soften any heart and overcome
any obstacle.

When Benedetto Handel advised Gluck that his works had not pleased the public
he traveled to Paris where he was very much influenced by the operas of Jean
Philippe Rameau. From 1755 to 1761 he was in Vienna, where he began reforming
opera along the more dramatic lines suggested in Marcello s Teatro alla moda. Gluck
composed his piece Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762.
In the legend, Orpheus is considered the greatest musician to have ever lived. He
was the son of the God Apollo, the god of the son, music, truth and prophecy.
According to the story, Orpheus wife Euridice was unfortunately bitten by a snake
and killed while trying to escape from Aristaeus, a Shepard, who was overcome by
her beauty and was pursuing her through the woods. When Orpheus learned of
Euridice s death he was grief stricken and sang, he sang a tune so beautiful it
deeply touched everything, living and not living, in all the world and the heavens
above. He descended into Hades, and when he played his song, even managed to
melt Hades cold heart. He was told that he told take Euridice, but only on one
condition, he could not look upon her until they were out of the underworld. As
foreshadowed, Orpheus could not resist looking back before they had fully escaped
the underworld, and he lost her forever along with meeting his own death soon after.
Both operas replace the tragedy of the original myth with something more suiting and
cheerful. In L Orfeo, the opera ends with Orpheus being
Health Systems Thinking
Systems thinking (ST), a subset of to complexity theory (CT), is a potentially
transformational way to view and approach health. It draws on many academic
traditions to describe the processes, actors, and dynamics that shape systems like the
health system(1). It is more than simply considering the bigger picture. Approaching
a problem from a ST perspective involves examining interrelationships, considering
all perspectives, and understanding the role of boundaries (Williams and van t Hof
2014:8).
A system consists of interacting, connected parts that operate towards a purpose;
changing one connection necessarily affects other parts of the system. A complex
adaptive system (CAS) is a type of system that consists of interacting, nonlinear ...

Case studies are of value to illustrate the range of applications of systems thinking

Millennials And Boomers
Each generation grows into what they are to become based almost entirely on their
environment, and the Millennials and Boomers are no different. They watch and
learn from the effects of that environment, good or bad, and how it impacted their
lives and the lives of their families, then they form their views and opinions from
there. But what is it that makes the Millennials and the Boomers handle their
financials so differently? Not to mention the drastic differences in their saving habits.
The Saving Habits of Millennials
Millennials have grown up in hard financial times as they ve watched their parents
and grandparents struggle to pay the bills leaving little money left over to put aside
for college, let alone retirement. Therefore, Millennials have developed different
saving habits than previous generations.
Millennials realize the importance of saving for retirement, because unlike previous
generations, the threat of not having social security to rely on is very real to them.
They have experienced first hand the ramifications of bad spending habits and have
witnessed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The latter of which are currently still working, but will soon be retiring. The older
boomers, those currently 60 plus, started saving for retirement around the age of 37
and have a median savings of $50,000, according to Time.com. However, their
younger counterparts, currently age 55 59, started their retirement savings around
age 31 and have a median savings of $150,000, which means they might be able to
retire earlier than older Boomers who say they will work beyond their retirement age.
However, because Millennials have started saving for retirement at a much younger
age and because they are more proactive when it comes to effectively managing their
spending habits, they might very well be the generation that can actually choose to
retire at or before their official retirement age. Unfortunately, only time will
Knowing Why Airplanes Crash Is Important Essay
There are technologies being discussed to improve crash location technologies.
They are improvements to the ULB battery life, an additional low frequency ULB.
Another technology is ADS B which monitors aircraft position. Crash deployable
flight recorders are also being considered as well as streaming flight data via a
satellite. Let s us take a closer look at each technology. There are several
improvements to ULB technology in progress. ULB Battery Life is in the process
of being extended from 30 days to 90 days. There will be an additional ULB
attached to the fuselage which will broadcast at a lower frequency which increases
the range the beacon can be heard. In light of the MH370 tragedy and the lingering

The US Military has had crash Deployable Flight Recorders (DFR) for over twenty
years with 110 crashes and 110 successful deployments. In addition to crash data
the device incorporates an ELT which broadcasts the aircraft serial number
(Werfelman, Thinking outside the black box). Streaming data is another
technology that has been popularly suggested for use in Locating and accessing
FDR information. After all if we can stream movies in high definition why can t
we do the same with the FDR data? In light of the AF447 tragedy there has been a
tremendous amount of research into aircraft streaming fight data if the aircraft
detects a potential crash condition. On September 3, 2010 a UPS 747 400
successfully uplinked flight using a streaming data before a fatal catastrophic crash
due to a cargo fire (Werfelman, Narowing the search). This data was streamed live
in real time to the UPS command center in Lexington, KY. UPS was aware the flight
had inflight fire before the plane had crash and was aware of when, where and why
the flight terminated (BEA). However there are several concerns about this
technology. Pilots are very resistant to
Women In Combat Arguments
So many questions linger when it comes to women being able to be in combat. Are
they strong enough? Are women capable of dragging a man s body out of gun fire?
In my opinion, this is a well debated topic in the military world. I believe that
women should not be allowed in combat because most are not physically capable,
emotionally capable, and not experienced enough. I don t think women are nearly as
strong as men. In my high school gym class, men met higher physical education
standards than women. If I was in the military, I would not expect a womanto be able
to carry my body out of gun fire. In the weight room, I ve seen women who are not
capable of carrying a thirty pound dumbbell. I don t believe women the emotional
capacity to be in
Gitlow V Taylork Case Summary
Facts of the Case In 1951 Eugene Dennis along with 10 other members of the
American communist party were arrested and charged under the Smith Act with
teaching and supporting the overthrowing of the government. This was the third of a
series of major cases pertaining to the freedom of speech in concern with speech with
communist ideals supporting the overthrow of the government. In 1925 s Gitlow V
NewYork, Gitlow is charged under the criminal anarchy act due to his communist
publications, and in 1927 s Whitney V California, Whitney is charged under the
criminal syndicalism act for helping establish the communist labor party of America.

When observing the freedom of speech it should be noted that not all speech has the
same value on a scale. Lewd and obscene speech are not as thoroughly protected and
claimed by constitutional immunity as seen in Chaplinsky V State of New York. The
prohibition of speech which may advocate the overthrowing of the government can
be just as dangerous as outlawing speech which criticizes serious defects in our
government but does support the overthrowing of the government. Those who have
serious concerns for government reform may stay quiet in fear of criticism and
inadvertently be losing their first amendment freedoms. The court does not bear the
responsibility of deciding how to manage the clash of interest, and instead respect
congress decision that the avocation of overthrowing the government is speech that

Analysis Of 71 Shot, 12 Killed At Aurora Movie Theater
The articles A Quiet Man who Authorities say Harbored a Deadly Plan and 71
Shot, 12 Killed at Aurora Movie Theatre accomplish the goal of having short
paragraphs and strong verbs. However they fail to accomplish short sentences for
example, in the article 71 Shot, 12 Killed at Aurora Movie Theatre the first
paragraph is only one sentence that has a total of 45 words. This is all one
sentence, and one paragraph. The articles do not stay concise however because the
information is repeated over and over again multiple times throughout the article.
The two articles do remain objective however. The stories are filled with facts and
no opinions as well as no biased words or phrases. The articles stay on topic of
informing the reader about the events of the night and give quotes from both victims,
old family friends of the perpetrator, and family members to the perpetrator.... Show

centered more to informing the public of the immediate events and what is
currently going on at the Aurora Movie Theatre. The article still does not have all
the information and missing key parts of the story. In the second article A Quiet

towards the events that took place at the home of James Holmes and includes more
accurate information of what took place on July 20, 2012. Instead of focusing on
the victims and using quotes from victims like what the author does in 71 Shot, 12
Killed at Aurora Movie Theatre, this article focuses on quotes from family members
of James Holmes as well as old neighbors and high school

Horror Movie Essay.pdf

  • 1. Horror Movie Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of horror movies might seem like a daunting task initially. The genre itself is vast and multifaceted, encompassing a wide range of subgenres, themes, and cinematic techniques. As a writer, delving into the realm of horror movies requires a careful balance between analysis and personal interpretation. Firstly, one must navigate the extensive history of horror cinema, spanning from classic black- and-white films to modern psychological thrillers. Understanding the evolution of the genre is crucial for contextualizing the significance of certain movies and the impact they have had on both cinema and society. Moreover, the psychological aspects of horror movies add another layer of complexity. Analyzing the ways in which filmmakers manipulate fear, suspense, and tension requires a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the human psyche. Unraveling the motives behind the creation of iconic monsters or the use of specific settings demands a meticulous examination of narrative choices and visual elements. The cultural and societal implications of horror movies also play a significant role in constructing a comprehensive essay. Exploring how these films reflect or challenge societal fears, taboos, and anxieties involves research into cultural contexts and historical moments that influenced the creation of certain horror subgenres. Furthermore, articulating personal insights and opinions about individual horror movies adds a subjective touch to the essay. However, striking a balance between objective analysis and personal interpretation can be challenging, as opinions about what makes a horror movie effective can vary widely. In conclusion, writing an essay on horror movies requires a deep dive into the genre's history, a nuanced understanding of cinematic techniques, a grasp of psychological elements, and an exploration of cultural and societal influences. The challenge lies in weaving these aspects together into a cohesive and engaging narrative that not only informs the reader but also sparks a deeper appreciation for the horror genre. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the complexity of this task, or if you simply need assistance with academic writing, a variety of resources are available. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer the possibility to order essays and other academic content, providing support for those who seek additional help in navigating the intricacies of essay writing. • 2. Essay On The Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies Throughout the novel, Lord Of The Flies, by William Golding, there are multiple objects through the novel that have a large impact on the group of boys. Some objects or materials are brought into the book that might help them in a specific way, or even influence the killing of some boys, but none of them had been an influence for as long as the conchshell was. Objects came and went throughout the novel, but the conch really stuck to the boys on the island, influencing them from beginning to end in physical and mental ways. Overall, the conch shell is hands down one of the most important of not, then the most important object that is brought into the novel, and brought up throughout the novel. In the beginning of the novel, the conch is considered a significant part of it, because of the ways that it helps the boys. The two boys that found the conch in the beginning of the novel were Ralph and Piggy, who had just gotten off of the crashed plane on the deserted island. Ralph and Piggy then spotted it after talking for a little while sitting in the mud in a lagoon. When they finally got it out of the lagoon, they exchanged comments about it, with both of them passing it back and forth to each other. Piggy was holding when he made the comment, a conch; ever so expensive. I bet if you wanted to buy one, you d have to pay pounds and pounds and pounds.... (Golding 16). He made this comment, because he and Ralph both valued it as a very important item to them, that they would end

Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig (19 June 1861 29 January 1928) was a senior commander in the First World War (WWI), and perhaps one of the most notable figures in British Military history. • 4. The Effect Of Communication On The Satisfaction Of A... Why take another look at communication again? because most studies that have been done, do the same thing over and over. They use self reports that are coded themselves or that the research will have the participants code, tons of different questionnaires that take time for the participants to do, and it is really not relevant for the new generations. With the studies that have been done, almost half of all first marriage still end in divorce. It looks like the system that we use to study and try to help curb this just isn t working, because of the measures that are used it just speak to the generation anymore. This study is different, it will use a video game as the measure to study the effects of communication on the satisfaction in a relationship. The video game doesn t take much time, and time is very important to this generation that is always on the go. It is also a lot more relevant for this generation of couples as well. This study will also be looking at specifically communication in a stressful situation, which the studies have not covered before. This is important because every couple as arguments and by studying this hopefully it will curb the amount of arguments in the relationship and help lower the first marriage divorce rates. There was a study done just recently that looked at whether communication predicted satisfaction or satisfaction predicted communication? The study didn t really find whether one predicted the other.(Lavner, et al, 2016, p. 1 15)

The serial killer that I have selected for this essay project is , Dennis Rader, better known as the BTK Killer . The concepts that can be related to why Rader committed this crimes are Hedonistic serial Killer, and Motivated by terror. Dennis Rader, or the BTK Killer , first committed his murder in 1974 when he killed the Otero family in their home. He strangled all four of them , and when he was done he took several souvenirs and even left semen on the scene, because he derived sexual pleasure from the killing. I thought it looked interesting because the horse with the girl on the cover and the name of the novel, Missing it was very compelling. I have always been interested in novel s that evolve animals, and when I saw the horse I thought it might be a good novel. I have also read some of the authors other novel s and I thought they were very interesting too. The information I needed to know before reading the novel was the main character, the background knowledge of her life and where everything was going on. The main character is a teenager name Thea. Now, Thea is trying to build trust with the horse before telling her Dad. Thea is telling the story, it is in first person point of view. The setting of the novel is in Canada. He was a New York native who was the son of American Civil war captain, John Hubbell Woolworth and his wife, Fanny Mcbrier ( Biography of Frank Winfield Woolworth 2005). The couple married in 1851 and one year later, Frank Winfield Woolworth was born. His childhood was filled with memories of hard work and scarcity. Mr. Woolworth would work long hours on his father s farm and would barely have enough money to scrape buy. This became evident when he took a trip to Watertown, NY to buy a 50 cent scarf for his mother and was ridiculed by shopkeepers for trying to buy with change. The trip also allowed the young man to come across another store where he was able to buy a similar scarf for 5 cents and a wide variety of other cheap goods. On top of that, the staff were much more courteous as they provided a satisfying attitude for all customers, regardless of social background. Such quality service prompted Mr. Woolworth to open his first store in 1879 that would mirror such quality to the public. His business model worked as he was able to incorporate his company in 1904 to become the famed F.W Woolworth Co. . Almost 50 years later, the company would surpass the one billion dollar value mark. After that, Woolworth and Co. would acquire the G.R Kinney Corporation in 1965, the corporation that started Footlocker nine years

The concept of lean production was first introduced in The Machine that Changed the World (Womack et al., 1991) to refer to a new way of looking at the manufacturing enterprise. It was distinguished from mass production by its single minded focus on eliminating waste in all aspects of the enterprise. An enterprise exists to add value to customers through a series of activities that transform inputs into outputs and anything other than the minimum needed to perform that value added function is waste. Toyota was the original model for lean and the concept of just in time epitomized the focus on waste elimination only make exactly what is needed, in the amount needed, when it is needed. In fact the just in time principle is one aspect of a broader philosophy represented by the Toyota production system. In TPS, the just in time concept is one pillar and the other is to build in quality at every step of the process, not allowing defects to propagate through the value stream. The

The magnitude of the philosophy movement known as the Enlightenment sent ripples throughout Western society. The philosophers believed that in order to improve society they had to enlighten the monarchs. Among these enlightened despots of the age were Frederick the Great of Prussia, Catherine the Great of Russia, and Joseph II of Austria. Personification, one of the figures of speech most used by Dunbar, can be seen continuously throughout his poem. For instance, in the first line of the first stanza, Dunbar uses personification when he writes We wear the mask that grins and lies because the mask is portraying human like qualities. The mask represents how the subjects of the poem, African Americans, display a physical image that completely differs from what they really feel mentally and emotionally. Apart from the tone he uses, Dunbar also uses the pronoun we which automatically informs the reader that he s included in the group of people he s writing about. He makes his rage at having to hide his true emotions well known in the beginning of the poem, as well as his despair at the end of the poem when he states that the world will dream while continuing to wear the mask . In other words, he says that they will remain hopeful while continuing to hide their sadness behind a fake smile. Dunbar s overall statement in We Wear the Mask is that these African Americans, including himself, not once revealed all of the sadness, anger, and agony they went through; they simply smiled and faked their happiness while they were anguished and hurting inside, probably to avoid provoking conflict with Caucasian groups of people. The purpose of this title was to inform the reader of the exasperating struggle African Americans had to endure during this period of time due to race inequality, all in a total of three stanzas and 15

Institutional Markets * Institutional markets include a wide variety of profit and nonprofit organizations such as hospitals, government agencies, and schools that provide goods and services for the benefit of the society. Reseller Market * The reseller market includes what we often call middlemen. Resellers include wholesalers, retailers, and distributors who buy finished or semi finished products and resell them for a profit. Approaching the Market * Planners need to develop a strategy for approaching the market. Because consumers in a market are seldom uniform, markets must decide whether to treat the market as homogeneous (that is, as a single, large unit) or as heterogeneous (a market composed of separate, smaller groups known as segment). Undifferentiation versus Segmentation Approaches * When planners treat the market as homogeneous, they ignore differences in the market and rely on one marketing strategy that will appeal to as many people as possible. This market approach is known as an undifferentiated or market aggregation strategy. * Few

The Americas And Afro Eurasia In the late 1500 s the start of The Colombian Exchange and the settling of Europeans in the Americas sparked a chain reaction of events that would forever change the way we tell the history of that time. It also just may have altered the way we advanced as a species and interacted with one another from that point on. There were many changes that took place in everyday life in both the Americasand Afro Eurasia because of the events of this time period. Some of them more obvious than others, but all were important in their own respect. Advances in technology included farming techniques, written alphabet, weapon and firearm capabilities, and building techniques took place. Religion was also brought from Afro Eurasia into the Americas for the first time. There was also a huge exchange of plant life, which both sides were impacted by. Naturally this included crops grown for food. This had a large impact on the availability of certain products in both Afro Eurasia and the Americas. It also changed some of the cuisine, having an affect on popular foods and just simply what was available in certain areas. Not only was it plant life having a profound effect on the foods people ate, but also animals. There were a large number of animals that were new to both sides of the Exchange. Some of these animals could be raised on a ranch for their meat like, pigs, cattle, chickens, sheep, and goats. Others to be ridden for transportation, work or just as companions like horses and dogs.

Global warming doesn t completely mean a constant rise in temperature, it is mainly a change in temperature.in patterns. The two major greenhouse gases include methane and carbon dioxide. Global warming heats the ocean temperature and deteriorates the reefs leaving fish without homes. The reason the heat affects the reefs is because it bleaches them. The heating of the ocean can also give the reefs several different types of diseases. The diseases are bad because the reefs support entire ecosystems. The reefs are capable of absorbing carbon dioxide which makes them sick and kills them eventually. The ice caps are melting due to global warming, which means water levels rise. When water levels rise it is harder for reefs to get the sunlight they need to survive. Global warming is causing our main deserts to dry up even more. It is causing all of the the water in the desert to evaporate constantly. Some areas out there where it is still wet will receive long dry weather until precipitation occurs. Water levels are expected to drop nearly 30% in the next few years. Warm air in the tropics is heating up which means there will be more tropical thunderstorms, this will give the deserts and other dry places not in the tropic region a longer and tougher drought. Global warming can mean getting warmer, and when it gets warmer the water evaporates into the air which gives hurricanes more water and stronger winds to work with. Future hurricanes are expected to be more similar to the strong ones in the past. For example the tornados will be more like Katrina and Irene. The hurricanes will be a serious problem for people living

These authors simulate probabilities of default and default costs on zero down payment loans and then compare the results with conventional underwriting standards. They estimate that, if low income borrowers are enticed by zero down payment requirements and if no adjustment for the higher default rates is made, the cost of the implicit subsidy would amount from $74,000 to $87,000 per million dollars of lending. Quercia et al. (1995) show that a lower loan to value (LTV) ratio at the time of origination (i.e., higher down payment) leads to lower default rates for rural, low income borrowers. These authors focus on the 1981 Farmers Home Administration Section 502 program and show that, while contemporaneous equity value in rural low income mortgage loans is not associated with default, crisis events are. Van Order et al. (2000) find, however, that the default behavior of both low income and average income groups is responsive to negative contemporaneous equity, while default rates and default losses are higher for low income borrowers. Moreover, the influence on credit risk of individual and neighborhood income is small for LTV less than 80 percent, but it ranges from 15 up to 50 basis points for very high LTV ratios. Enticing low income mortgage borrowers with lower down payment requirements thus Increases the risk of default. The Treatment Of Bibi Haldar By Jhumpa Lahiri This excerpt from The Treatment of Bibi Haldar by Jhumpa Lahiri has multiple themes, but one that really stands out above others is the effects of ignorance. One would disagree with my choice of theme, but one must not be so rash with their disagreement, first you must look at the writing techniques and the choiceof words that Lahiri uses in the excerpt. The ignorancein which I talk about circulates around Bibi s family. If Lahiri describes her events in chronological order, which I believe she does, then we can see that in the first paragraph, the family first expresses their ignorance of this poor girl s illness when they contact priests, religion, etc. in order to heal their daughter instead of official medical specialists. In the following paragraph, the author informs us of the many specialists in the medical field that the family had contacted in regards to Bibi s ailment. None of... • 37. MRI Vs Ultrasound An ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, more commonly known as an MRI, are two common ways doctors obtain pictures of what is happening in one s body. An ultrasound uses soundwaves to penetrate human flesh. As these waves encounter things of varying density in the body, the waves are reflected back differently. Due to these waves reflections, the ultrasoundmachine can formulate an image in real time, and physicians can interpret these pictures to give diagnoses (No Author, 2008). On the contrary, an MRI uses a powerful magnet to align atoms in the body. These atoms create their own rotating magentic field which a scanner can identify and create a picture from (Lewis, 2014). Although an MRI gets higher quality images and scans through bone and air, an ultrasound is ultimately better and more commonly used because it is cheaper and more accessible.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the ultrasound s use of sound waves to create its images, it cannot scan through air or bone because the waves cannot be reflected back; therefore, no image can be created when scanning air or bone. On the other hand, since an MRI uses a magnet to pull hydrogen atoms from water to create a new magnetic field, it can take high quality pictures of air and bone. For example, an MRI can take a fantastic picture of the lungs, while an ultrasound cannot scan the lungs because they are huge air pockets with nothing to bounce sound waves back to the ultrasound machine. MRIs are also better for taking pictures of parts of the body obscured by the bowel (Rubin, 2016). Furthermore, while the MRI procedure takes longer due to the magnet s rearranging magnetic fields, the picture is much better than an ultrasound s live feed. For these reasons, an MRI has benefits over an ultrasound as seen in the clearer images and the scanning through bone and

In the legend, Orpheus is considered the greatest musician to have ever lived. He was the son of the God Apollo, the god of the son, music, truth and prophecy.
