1. Peter Pan Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Peter Pan" may seem deceptively simple at first glance,
given the widespread familiarity with the beloved character. However, delving into the nuances
of J.M. Barrie's timeless creation reveals a tapestry of complexities that can make the writing
process more challenging than anticipated.
To begin with, one must navigate through the layers of Peter Pan's character, exploring his
eternal youth, mischievous nature, and the underlying themes of escapism and the refusal to
grow up. Unraveling the intricate relationships with characters like Wendy, Tinker Bell, and
Captain Hook requires a keen understanding of the psychological and symbolic dimensions that
Barrie weaves into his narrative.
Moreover, analyzing the cultural impact of "Peter Pan" adds another dimension to the essay.
From stage adaptations to film interpretations, the story has undergone numerous
transformations over the years, each leaving its unique imprint on the collective consciousness.
Discussing these adaptations demands a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of
storytelling mediums and their influence on the narrative.
The contextual backdrop of the Edwardian era, during which Barrie penned the tale, introduces
historical and social elements that shape the narrative. Addressing these aspects requires
meticulous research and a nuanced exploration of the cultural milieu in which the author was
immersed.
The complexity is further heightened when considering the critical perspectives that exist
regarding "Peter Pan." Analyzing various literary critiques, psychological interpretations, and
even feminist readings of the text adds layers of depth to the essay, requiring a thorough
examination of divergent viewpoints.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Peter Pan" demands more than a surface-level exploration of
the character and the narrative. It entails an in-depth analysis of literary, cultural, historical, and
critical dimensions that contribute to the richness of the subject. As one navigates through this
multifaceted journey, the challenge lies not just in presenting information but in weaving a
cohesive narrative that captures the essence of "Peter Pan" in all its intricacies.

The results of an investigation disclosed that the McDuffie s death may have been
caused by police instead of an accident. After being indicted and found not guilty by
an all white jury, riots broke out in black neighborhoods, especially Liberty City
resulting in arson and looting that left 18 persons dead and more than 300 injured.
This catastrophe forced the Miami Police
Department to reexamine and revise their use of force policies and procedures
(CQ Researcher, p. 645). The Jeffrey L. Dahmer Case characterize a situation when
the police fail to properly handle a call of a suspicous nature. Dahmer was charged
with murdering at least 15 young males. On May 27, 1993, two Milwaukee citizens
reported a naked young male in the middle of the street bleeding and unable to stand.
The boy name was Konerak Sinthasomphone, a 14 year of laotain boy.
Dahmer was able to persuade the officer that the boy was a live in lover. The boy
was later slain by Dahmer in his apartment after the officers left the scene. A storm
of portest came from the minority and homosexual communities accused the officers
of displaying racial prejudice. The officers were also criticized for dismissing the
incident as a boyfriend boyfriend thing (CQ Researcher, p.

One of the most celebrated cases in recent times was the beating of a black motorist
by several white police officers in Los Angeles. It stirred nationwide concern about
police brutality. On March 3, 1991, Rodney Glen
3. Andy Warhol s Influence on the Art World Essay
When you go to an art show do you understand the symbolic interpretation of the
pieces? Don t feel bad, most people don t. What s so upsetting about that is that you
really miss out on the experience. When I think about interpretation of art I think of
Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol s use of iconography changed not only the art world but
the people who came into contact with his art. Once you understand his life and art,
you will understand his art as a symbolic representation. Andy Warhol(Andrew
Warhola) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1928. His parents were
Julia and Ondrej Warhola and was the youngest of three boys. Warhol became ill
with St. Vitus disease when he was younger, which is a complication of scarlet fever.

His early paintings had an unconventional, unique, and unfinished look about them.
The images were known to everyone in everyday life. I was looking at a bunch of
Warhol s paintings and I was confused. I was just staring at them and I m thinking
why don t you look like a Warhol? Then I realize that these paintings are from when
he was younger. This was before he defined his aesthetic. I believe this was his
discovering phase then he goes into his silk screening phase. Andy Warhol used
current icons from the world for his work. One of the famous icons was the
Campbell s soup can. In 1962 Warhol displayed his Campbell s soup piece, one
canvas for each 32 types of Campbell s soup. In 1960, Warhol began producing his
first canvases, which he based on comic strip subjects. In 1961, he started using
the method of silk screening. Silk screening starts with a stencil drawing then
transferred with glue onto silk. Warhol s first silkscreen was Campbell s Soup
cans. Campbell s Soup was an icon in the 1960s that gave you a sense of comfort.
In spite of that, Warhol s Soup Can paintings were to provoke concern about value.
At first glance it may seem like a joke but it s actually a sophisticated and thought
provoking artistic statement. In the 1960s Andy Warhol made a sculpture that was
extension of what Warhol had done with the Campbell s Soup Cans, Brillo Boxes.
The Brillo Boxes were made out of wood but made to look accurately like the boxes

4. The Red Badge Of Courage Essay
Henry Fleming s character changed several times throughout The Red Badge of
Courage. These changes showed how Henry became a man and how he gained the
confidence and courage required to be a soldier. In Chapter 1, Henry is completely
engaged in his own thoughts. He daydreams about his farm, his home, and the
conversation he had with his mother. This shows that, at the beginning of the novel,
Henry is excited and has unrealistic ideas of glory. He is a dreamer. He doesn t think
of death, especially not the possibility of his own death. In Chapter 2, Henry starts to
connect with the other soldiers in his regiment. He listens to the soldiers talking the
enemyand the coming battle. As he listens to these stories, Henry doesn t know if
they are all true and because he doesn t know if they are true and whether or not to
believe them, he starts to become afraid. He keeps his feelings to himself,
separating himself from the others. In Chapters 3 and 4, Henry s fears and doubts
are increased by rumors from soldiers. At this point in the novel, he has seen battles
but has not been part of one yet. Henry s fear of not knowing what will happen
grows because he has not seen the enemy. His fear of the unknown is greater than the
idea of having to face the problem head on.
The first major character change that Henry made was in chapter 5. It is the first day
of the first battle for Henry and the other soldiers. As he forgets his doubt and fears
about how he performs, he stands tall and

Why Should We Save the Dolphins? Final Draft
By: Emily Chang

Subject: English
Teacher: Mr. Kris(Smith)
Imagine you are a dolphin swimming happily in the ocean with the other dolphins.
Suddenly, you hear something terrible, and that makes you feel extremely
uncomfortable. You swim towards somewhere safe to get away from that terrible
sound. However, when you get in, you realize it is a trap! You have been caught!
You might be sent to an aquarium or killed to be made into sushi. This unfortunate
fate is not a dream, but it is a sad reality for hundreds of thousands of innocent
dolphins. They are endangered of becoming extinct and their main predators are us,
humans. Our society needs to do something to preserve and protect our precious
dolphins. Dolphins should be saved because they are an endangered species, it is cruel
to kill such intelligent animals and they are not even safe to eat.
Dolphins: An Endangered Species There are many kinds of dolphins in the world.
The most common one that we see in theme parks, aquariums and movies is the
Bottlenose Dolphin. Fortunately for us, this is one of the few species of dolphins that
are not yet endangered. However, there are many other different species of dolphins
that are endangered. For example, the Baiji Dolphins, Chilean ... Show more content

because we could have and should have prevented this. If we do not save the
dolphins, the path to extinct might be quicker. Therefore, we must help save the

The Chinese Communist Party took control of the government in 1949, after
defeating the Nationalist party and its un communist policies, laws, and views.
During this time period WWII was also going on bringing with it new ideas and
technologies that changed China for better or worse. With this change the peasant
class experienced a major shift in rights, power, and influence. The Chinese
Communist Party and the peasant class between circa 1925 and circa 1950 had a
relationship that greatly benefited both sides, the Chinese Communist Party
empowered the peasants and advocated for social and economic equality which
strengthened the anti japanese viewpoint and instilled a sense of nationalism. The

7. Suicidal Death And Losses In Hamlet
William Shakespeare wrote Hamlet in 1599 and still, the Modern English play is
extremely relevant to the 21st century s society today. Hamlet proves relevance
while trying to get revenge on his uncle Claudius for killing his father. Shakespeare
expresses many different signs of characteristics that life includes while growing to
be an adult. The play shows many examples of suicidal death/losses, deceptive
people, and the grieving process.
Suicidal death and losses are seen throughout the entire play of Hamlet. Every
character throughout Hamlet experiences death and loss. Hamlet questioned death
many times, but at the same time, he knew he could not kill himself due to his
religious beliefs. Hamlet, to be or not to be is the question. (Act ... Show more content

Hamlet shows his melancholy throughout the whole play. This really starts to
show through Hamlet when he loses his father, and his mother runs off with
Claudius and he takes the throne. Act 1 Scene 2 shows the starting of when
Horatio introduces the ghost of Hamlet s father to Hamlet. While, Hamlet is
stunned to this news he decides to go ahead and address the ghost. He finds out
that his uncle Claudius killed his father by pouring poison down his ear while he
was sleeping.. The ghost tells Hamlet to get revenge. When Hamlet contemplates
to get revenge on his uncle or not grief plays a huge role. Hamlet questions if he
kills the killer will that actually make him feel better. He struggles with this also
because at this point in the play his faith has taken a tole of his mind. Faith is
versing the ghost of his father considering Hamlet is revealing his affinity of his
fathers death by the telling of Horatio, He was a man. Take him for all in all. I
shall not look upon his like again (Shakespeare 186 187) Horatio has a huge effect
on Hamlet s mind with this statement which says that a father like King Hamlet is
irreplaceable. Grief is relevant every single day and will always be a thing forever
and ever to come among the human race. Grief is seen in the classroom, at home, at
social events, in everyday life. The amazing thing about Hamlet is that the play
describes grief in the same way
8. Pros And Cons Of The Null Hypothesis
The Null Hypothesis is the thought that all vertebrates (with the exception of
humans) are of equal intelligence (Pearce, 2008). The Null Hypothesis was
proposed by Macphail (1982) and has since been widely debated; we will break these
debates into six categories for further examination.
Associative Learning
Associative learning is the capability of animals to learn associations between two
stimuli or a behavior and a stimuli. Associations can be made via classical
conditioning or operant conditioning. One of the biggest arguments against the Null
Hypothesis is that the experiments done have been confined to a species but not
done in a cross species design. This could mean that while one species may learn
an association through classical conditioning it may not be able to learn it through
operant conditioning or vice versa. As far as studies to date show, all vertebrae
species are capable of forming associations however further research is needed to
prove if all vertebrae species possess the same processes in forming associations.
Memory
There is evidence of memory differences across species. Some species have shown
that their short term memory surpasses that of other species but there is no clear
evidence if is it a result of different processing mechanisms of memory. There is
evidence that evolution may play a role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imitation was used to demonstrate that only some vertebrae species have
demonstrated the ability to imitate an action to achieve a goal. We cannot be sure
that the species that have not demonstrated the ability to imitate are not able to
however as there are many reasons that could sway their performance. The animal
may not find the reward to be worth the action or it could be form an experimental
design flaw. Regardless future research will need to be done to further assess the
ability of all vertebrae species ability of social
9. Two Common Reader
With both writings it s appropriate to consider their time period, especially to
recognize the large separation between the works. In 1932, Woolf released The
Second Common Reader, which comprises of twenty six essays relating various
literary topics. Our particular interest deals with the essay titled, How Should One
Read a Book? , a section about exactly what the title states. Throughout the section,
Woolf provides her opinion regarding how readers should read while still
acknowledging how people will read in any way they desired. However, her main
point deals with readers perception and interpretation of a work based on an
understanding they should develop with the author. Instead of reading a work with
no consideration, a reader reads with a writer s mindset. As a literary writer, Woolf
understands the difficulties that plague an author when writinga novel. In the essay,
she suggests comprehending what a novelist does rely on the reader writing rather
than reading, which introduces an interesting relationship between reader and author
(Woolf, 259). This suggestion revolves around empathy and placing one s position
into another one s shoes. Even without the obvious connection to the literary object s
identity, it represents a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basically, she expresses she understands how readers, especially casual readers,
will judge on a basic level this is bad; that is good type of mentality (Woolf, 268).
Even if our judgments flow against the major consensus, it s still how we perceive
our enjoyment in a book; our taste represents a large part of our experience with
reading. No matter how opposed an author is to judgement and comparisons, it s an
inevitable side effect that follows people who create works. Then, at the end, she
concludes by saying how reading calls for... imagination, insight and judgement

10. Hybridity in Ezekiel Mphahlele s Down Second Avenue
Hybridity in Ezekiel Mphahlele s Down Second Avenue
The criticism that Mphahlele s awareness of his being a hybrid person imparts an
inability to his being able to write his story himself is a criticism contrived out of
literal derivations of the Greek components of the word autobiography . The textual
landscape of Down Second Avenue includes many varied and detailed arenas, the
rural setting and its many dimensions, the city and its many dimensions. In the sense
that autobiography is part of the genre of biography in the postclassical European
tradition, that being the life accounts of saints and princes, the criticism is perhaps
true to some extent. However, in the aspect of the autobiography being a search for

Mphahlele relates his well justified fear of the Gaza church, where in one instance
the priest tries to saw off an invalid child s legs after a failed prayer healing attempt.
He constantly juxtaposes the positions of the various churches on issues such as the
government s education policy. He compares those aspects of each he reveres as
well as those he disparages. The church is a universal phenomenon in the psyche and
day to day experience of the writer throughout his childhood and early adulthood. He
sees how the various churches are both a help and hindrance
. His church based education of early and late childhood and his position of
employment as teacher are accrued through church institutions. However, he loathes
the church for the disparateness of people around him including his grandmother:
The teaching that broke down a good deal of the individualism of the eastern
Transvaal Africans. In this aspect Mphahlele reveals clearly both the hybridity as well
as the symmetry between the various churches in his experience.
An important dichotomy is Mphahlele s determined vocation as academic and
teacher and his employment as messenger boy, journalist. He is fired as messenger
boy under the familiar South African axiom, being cheeky. He relates how possessing
an academic qualification is in fact a hindrance to obtaining basic employment. His
11. The Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt
Egyptians
Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the
mouth of the river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The
Egypt we re familiar with begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his
command, the South conquered the Northern lands unifying the two nations into
what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two kingdoms were greatly
different, they did have one enormous element in common, the Nile River. Each
spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and
replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom
vitally depended on this natural rhythm.
When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the
field would need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of
work, a previously monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group
of 33 dynasties over 3 periods. On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their
Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt was one, strong, unified land ruled by
a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally.
Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an
endless flow that life and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all
surviving remnants from the Old Kingdom period are the grand tombs and burial
sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong impression that death haunted the
Egyptians.

Rage deals with a girl from a low socioeconomic background that gets sexually
assaulted by the town s golden boy. Branded a liar and bullied relentlessly, Summers

Young adult literature provides an excellent bridge to discovering these ideas and
finds a deeper understanding of social relations. As Hazel Rochman notes, good
books allows the readers to see people as individuals in all their complexity. Good
books unsettle us and make us ask questions about what we thought was certain,
(Rochman, 1993 ). Rochman also recommends teaching books to young adults that
move beyond political correctness, stereotypes, and happy endings. Rather, students
should be educated on social issues and social justice. Teaching social justice is to
communicate a sense of agency, that people working together might, invent a project
of remediation, palliation, and repair, (Ayers, et

Russia and her many states , was dissolved. From it would be formed the
Commonwealth of Independent States. While the name of the new Russia would

slightly negative state. Relations did not become better or worse for the first few
years of the CIS s existence. The end of the decade would bring conflict into play

Residents of Poland were rightfully concerned seeing as the base could be a target
for potential attacks. This could endanger the public and therefore the citizens did
not entertain positive reactions to this idea. Russia, on the other hand, saw this as a
major threat to its country s safety, for this base s missiles could easily reach Russia.
Relations already were not smooth between Russia and NATO in general. The United
States replied to these comments by stating that these missiles are meant to protect
against a rogue state that might become a threat to Europe s safety. Russia would
not comply easily and threatened multiple times through several officials that
military force would be used against this base in the event that it was built. When
the US and Poland came to an agreement then, Russia, surprisingly, did not respond
directly with military. It did however drastically increase its defenses on its borders
and openly criticized the US and Poland decision. At the end of Bush s term in
2008 it could be seen that his Foreign Policy towards Russia was to not show any
weakness to an equally as strong and assertive Vladimir Putin. While this strategy
was effective it would leave a huge strain on the future of Russia and the US s
relationship. After Bush left and Barack Obama took office, things would appear to

We have learnt a lot during this project and liked the improvement in our testing
skills and deep concept related to these kinds of projects.
Our project is Library Management System . Library Management System is a light
weight and easy to use library information management software product for
Windows.
This report describes the implementation of a library management system. The
Entity Relationship model is used to design a database that will store and organize
the library s data. I have created the database using MySQL and added it with some
sample data. The system can keep track of Librarians, Borrower s, books and the
relationships between them. Using Core JAVA, and JDBC, I have created a graphical
user interface that allows librarians to access the system.

19. Religion Has Been A Major Force In The History Of The
United
Religion has been a major force in the history of the United States and in settling
the colonies of America in many ways. Religion was definitely one of the major
reasons for the founding of the colonies. The early colonists wanted the freedom to
worship God as they had seen as proper, and they were promised this freedom of
worship. Most of these colonies were deeply rooted in their religious beliefs. Religion
was a powerful influence on the social and political life of the colonial times in the
New World. Typically, in the colonies, the church was a large building in the middle
of a town and was used for town meetings and community gatherings in addition to
worship. During this time, a church was the first building to go up, and the... Show

The Quakers and Puritans moved from their homes in Europe and England because
of the unfairness in their religious beliefs. They sought to reform the Anglican
religious practice, which was to purify the church and later became known as the
Puritans (Wood). They demanded for the removal of all Roman Catholic rituals and
wanted to simplify religion to its basics (Shi, 42). The Puritans landed in American
where new colonies were created. The Puritans did not accept those that believed
differently than they did. They left England because they refused to worship in
Anglican churches. The Puritans refused the Quakers and any others citizenship who
believed in a different form of worship. The Quakers had also refused to support the
Church of England and were under the leadership of William Penn. The Quakers
stamped their values on the government of Pennsylvania. Other Puritans that were not
as radical in their religious views later formed settlements along the Massachusetts
Bay (Wood).
The Pilgrims main reason in coming to America was that they were searching for the
freedom to worship. The Pilgrims, defined as a person who journeys to a place for
religious reasons, were also known as Separatists. The Separatists were with the
Pilgrims who traveled across the Atlantic and settled the first permanent English
settlement, Plymouth Colony in New England. The Separatists required that each
congregation rule itself and not be controlled by a bureaucracy
20. Catherine The Great Impact
Over the period of 67 years, Catherine the Great a former Empress of Russia in the
1700 s used various methods in order to implement foreign policy unto her nation and
the nations around her. Her accomplishments in foreign policy not only caused
drastic changes in her own country for her own people, but also in surrounding
countries and their people. The most impressive and life altering achievement of
Catherine the Great, was the way in which she intelligently and manipulatively went
about her way in seizing control over one third of Poland.
Catherine II first began her rule in the year 1762, with the help and advocacy of
multiple allies, some of which included the supportive countries of; Austria, England,
and France. (Erikson 187) The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

problems with the Turks had finally ceased, for her envoys had informed her of the
fact that both sides had declared peace. Catherine II was finally able to focus not
only on the welfare of her country, but also on expanding its borders even more
than had been done so before. (Erikson 312) Meanwhile, amongst the totality of
European politics as a result of the help from the Empress and her advisors, Russia
was about to play a large and meaningful role in the new order. It was prime time
for Russia to advance herself territorially, therefore, a second annexation of Poland
was quickly ensured. (The first annexation of Poland occurred in 1772, courtesy of
Germany, in an attempt to prevent Austria from going to war against Prussia). In
order to swiftly and smoothly start absorbing the land of Poland, Catherine II
joined Frederick II, as well as the Austrian co ruler Joseph II, in dividing roughly
one third of the vast kingdom between themselves. Russia was able to collect lands
upon lands, and over a million and a half new subjects. After winning miles of land,
Russia seemed almost invincible, especially in comparison to Poland, who was

Orphan Trains Orphan trains is a documentary about children in New York, being
sent on trains to other parts of the country, in order to find families and be taken care
of. There are stories from, adults that actually rode on these trains when they were
children. The Orphan Trains was started by a man named Charles Loring Bracein
1854. Brace, had traveled to New York in the early 1850 s, and was horrified at the
conditions of all the children he saw on the street. Brace felt that it was a duty to
help these children out, and decided that the only way to help these children was to
get them away from their surroundings, and send them away to be raised in nice,
Christian homes around the country. So, in 1853, Brace founded the Children s...

Being homeless was also an exclusion. These are two exclusions that keep the
children in, Orphan Trains , from being full citizens. Even though the children are not
full citizens, they are not totally severed from mainstream society, so they actually
have second class citizenship. The founding of the Children s Aid Society was to
help the children live a better life. People believed that, these children had a right to
be taken care of and that it was their responsibility, to ensure that these children got
put into homes. So, the children had second class citizenship that is, having marginal
connections to mainstream institution, rights, and responsibilities. Even though they
were just children, they had duties. They were expected to live with a new family
and learn the work ethic that was taught to them, as well as behave in the way that
children are supposed to in society. They had the right to a certain standard of
civilization. Meaning, they deserved to live in good homes, with families that could
teach them good moral values and duties needed to become citizens in society, when
they grew up. Orphan Train children had a social citizenship. They had the right to
live life according to societies standards. They had a minimum of economic welfare
and security, with being sent to new homes where they wouldn t be homeless and

Oklahoma Moves Drugs
Millions of cars drive in and out of Oklahoma every day. Families, couples, friends, or
just a single person. What we don t know is what is inside of the vehicles. People
don t realize that we have highways going all directions which are I 44, I 40, and I

pounds of Marijuana, Cocaine, PCP, painkillers, Heroin, and Meth are being

there are 128 prescriptions written for painkillers for every one hundred

Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, and Benzos have been made illegal. So now, the
government has grouped them with Cocaine, Meth, PCP, and Heroin. All the

23. All Quiet On The Western Front, German World War I
World War I differed from previous wars in the essence that technological
sophistication of weaponry such as artillery, poison gas and machine guns created a
vehement war with a massive number of casualties. In the novel All Quiet on the
Western Front, German World War I veteran Erich Maria Remarque delineates the
experiences that German soldiers face on the restless front, and the toll that the
physical conditions and the mental stress take on the deterioration of the youth of
each soldierbattling on the terrain. Remarque s warnovelstrays away from the
romantic and glorifying thought of war in order to emphasize the hardships war
forced upon the men who fought for their country. The weapons that are in the
hands of the men on the front lines become their livelihood, and the terrain of the
battle are the only things separating a common man and a man marked by the scars
of war. At some point, war no longer becomes a fight between enemies from two
different countries, it becomes a battle between one s self and the urge to resist
barbaric and animalistic acts when in dire situations. A wide variety of new
advanced and manufactured weapons altered the way soldiers regarded battle and
the land where they would engage. Life on the front forced German soldiers to come
face to face with petrifying weapons that can critically injured, or even kill, one
within a matter of seconds. Words such as mines, gas, tanks, machine guns, hand
grenades, bombardment, barrage and curtain fire

All she wanted was his approval and recognition, but as time progressed she no longer
valued his values the same way. Throughout the text Leah, who sees with the eyes of
an intelligent, flexible learner, presents historical and cultural details...integrates all
types of knowledge into her narratives (Austenfeld). For example Leah embraced
African culture while her father never condoned it. Leah Price s pivotal moment
follows at the church s vote. While the congregation votes on tata Jesus The
Preacher stands up and spits wounding words in all directions. As her father
insultes the native s culture she no longer considers her father to be a holy man.
Even though she was raised around his teachings she no longer considers him to be
of pure intentions. Since Nathan is arrogant, inflexible, and passionately committed
he never attempted to learn the society s needs he just wanted to create Christian
clones for his own selfish salvation. In the end she finally states, If I had a prayer
left in me, it was that this red faced man [Nathaniel] shaking with rage would never
lay a hand on me again officially ending her glorious thoughts towards her father

The war on drugs have been a critical issue that has repeatedly held a great debate
topic. It was in the 1906 when the first act against drug was put into effect with the
Pure Food and Drug Act which required all over the counter medication to have label
of its ingredients. Under President Nixon the first executive branch office to
coordinate drugpolicy was formed and the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention
and Control Act was put into place. Two years following that the Drug
Enforcement Agency (DEA) was formed. The funding for the war on drugs had
greatly increased over the decades and has reached the record of an annual budget
of $17.8 billion which occurred in 1998. Much of the budget is used to intervene
drug flow on the U.S. border and for interdiction according to Cooper s 1993 War
on Drugs article. Some people agree that having more man power at the U.S.
border will help eliminate the U.S. drug problem while others argue that even
though having more people working the border increases drug seizures there are
still drugs continuing to enter the United States. These may be the very people that
believe in using the budget to provide more educational programs to the younger
generation and having prevention programs will help those that may have become a

Gap Year Is The Right Choice
People these days should take the gap year because it lets them have the time to find
out the person that they want to be in life. Today most students are taking the path
of having a gap year because they are very stressed throughout high school and just
need a break from school for a little while. Some students have no motivation or clue
what they want to do in college so by having this gap year it gives them the time to
explore and find out what interest them. This will give them a better idea of what
they want to major in and eventually have a job in as well. Some would say that
going to college right after high school could make life a lot less problematic;
however, students should choose to take a gap year to have the most favorable
outcomes after high school.
The students who take a gap year may never attend college, but some of the
colleges recommend to the students that they should take a gap year. A lot of
parents are worried if their child decides they are going to take a gap year that they
will find the time off really fun and they will find other interest and they never want
to attend college. In today s society more of the colleges across the United States are
actually saying to the students that they should take a gap year so they can become
more mature and ready for their college experience. Now in the 21st century, the U.S.
colleges and universities accept gap years, they encourage them. Many of the country

29. Job Reflection Essay
In this chapter, Job refutes his friend, but he also praises God and acknowledges his
power through this refutation. Even through the tension between himself and his
friends is increasing, he does not curse God or turn away from him. However, Job
still acknowledges his suffering. My pastor often talks about how there is a
distinction between pain and sin. However, he also explains that our actions in pain
can sometimes be sinful. Job models how one can experience immense anguish, but
avoid sinning against God. Job also alludes to the concept of inherent human
depravity when he states, How can mere mortals prove their innocence before God
(Job 9:2). Even though Job believed his sufferingwas not the result of sin against
God, he remained humble before God.
Job 10
In this chapter Job continues to describe his anguish. One verse in this chapter
describes a concept that many Christians, including myself, struggle with. Job
states, Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while
you smile on the plans of the wicked (Job 10:3). The concept behind this verse is
likely the greatest argument against Christianity. Many people struggle with why a
good God would let terrible things happen. I have started to understand that God
does not promise things will always work out the way we want them to, or in a
way that is fair: God promises that he will be with us. While it is hard to overlook
earthly suffering, the hope God offers in eternity for those who

Heavily involved in the production and distribution of marijuana, cocaine and
opium, the Sinaloa Cartel is also operates prostitution rings and deals in human

35. Bishop And Roethke On The Contradictions Of Perception
Date
Overwhelming Sensuousness: Bishop and Roethke on the Contradictions of
Perception My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke and The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop
depict the seemingly disparate subjects of a rough, playful dance between a drunken
father and his son and a fish just pulled from the sea. Different in this way, the poems
share an intense desire to render the ambiguity of subjective experience. More
specifically, they show how embracing this ambiguity produces rich, potentially
ecstatic modes of perception. While My Papa s Waltz centers on the subjective
oscillation between what John McKenna calls love and fright; excitement and
concern, The Fish probes the dichotomy between life and death, the human and the
inhuman (38). Roethke s speaker seems to remain caught within the binary aspects
of his sensory perception, struck by its contradictory richness, but Bishop offers a
glimpse of how the oscillation gives way to epiphany, to what C.K. Doreski calls a
leap from perception to wisdom (112). By directing readers attention to the
importance of engaging subjective experience in a way that does not smooth over its
contradictory elements, both poems are able to powerfully render the heightened
modes of being that can emerge from an immersion in the sensuality of daily
existence. I will demonstrate this claim via a close examination of the poems
imagery, diction, tone, and autobiographical contexts. In order to approach the poems

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni is considered to be one of the

when he was still living. Michelangelo created art work with blends of, psychology,
physical realism and passion which was a breath of fresh art. This help him be

Methods
Our primary means of research was the internet. We found most of our sources by
exploring the many professional actuarial groups, and looking through their
collections of articles and periodicals. We found that our best sources were from
professional organizations such as the Society of Actuaries, and the Casualty
Actuarial Society, both publish periodicals with reliable articles from accredited
actuaries. This method of searching through articles put out by professional
organizations was most effective for us because all of the articles were written by
fully qualified actuaries who have first hand experience working through the ethical
conflicts that we describe in our report. All our articles are first reviewed by the
professional organization that publishes them, to ensure that they contain accurate,
and relevant information, which allowed us to keep all our conclusions professional
and our arguments strong. We also used several court documents containing actuarial
testimonies about policy rates, and proper returns on investments. These documents
were very useful, as all the information was very accurate given the legal process

The status of health in Nigeria can be seen through indicators such as the incidence
of disease. The leading cause of death in Nigeria is Malaria, a disease that has been
completely eradicated in most countries (Center for Disease Control, 2013).
Treatment and test kits for malaria can be extremely expensive. However, a simple
vaccination can help to prevent the illness thus resulting in fewer deaths. Another
prominent disease seen in Nigeria is HIV. Nigeria has the second largest number
of cases of HIV in the world (United States Agency for International Development,
2017). Nigeria has developed a prevention plan to help provide therapy as soon as
possible however, HIV results in the death of many individuals as there is no cure.
The list of diseases which place burden on the health status of Nigeria is endless.
Ultimately, changes need to be made in order to prevent transmission, allow for early
detection, and eradicate diseases.
Health Priorities in terms of MDGs In theory, the MDGs were designed with the

40. Historical Influences In To Kill A Mockingbird
When reading books, readers will occasionally find that some books will have
historical influences in them. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
there are three different historical influences. Lee used real life historical events in
her book To Kill A Mockingbird to help make her story more Inspirational. The
three different historical influences that Lee used were mob mentality, Jim Crow
laws, and the Scottsboro trial. The first historical influence in Lee s book is the Jim
Crow laws. Jim Crow are the rules set upon black peopleto take their rights away.
White folk thought that they needed Jim Crow because they wanted to remain
superior. White folk also believed that they were the chosen ones. A few examples
of Jim Crow are that black people could never say that a white person was lying,
even if they were. Black people had separate, hospitals, ect. If there was any sexual
interactions between a black and a white person it was illegal. These are just a few
of the unfair laws, but if they broke one of these laws the punishments were
unimaginable. The whites believed that violence must be used to keep the whites
superior, and the blacks were arrested for crimes they didn t do. If a black person
disobeyed one of the Jim Crow laws they would risk their jobs, homes, and their
lives. One of the worst punishments when a black person would disobey one of the
laws were Lynchings. Lynchings were public murders that were sadistic and hosted
by mobs(Pilgrim). The
41. Analysis Of Dostoevsky And Kierkegaard s The Grand...
What does it mean to have faith? This is not a question of, do you believe in the
teachings of your religion, but what is a true believer. Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard
are two philosophers that extensively delved with great contemplation and
introspection of what it means to be a Christian. Both of these philosophers took a
critical microscope to the typical Christian teachings of how to be a good Christian.
What both of these philosophers eventually deduced is that the traditional teachings
of Christianity remove the person from from ever truly finding the meaning behind
their faith; thus separating the devoted from the divine. For both Dostoevsky and
Kierkegaard, to be a Christian is more than going through the motions of what the
church leaders tell you, but to find out for oneself why they ultimately believe. To
convey his notions, Ivan, the main character of Dostoevsky s story, creates the
character the Grand Inquisitor. The Grand Inquisitor is symbolic of the catholic
church and the control they hold over the followers of Catholicism. In this story, the
Grand Inquisitor is faced with Jesus Christ, whom has come back to earth for the
second coming. In on particular instance, The Inquisitor challenges Christ by saying,
Didst Thou forget that man prefers peace, and even death, to freedom of choice in
the knowledge of good and evil? Nothing is more seductive for man than his
freedom of conscience, but nothing is a greater cause of suffering (Dostoevsky, pg

42. Graduate School Admission Essay
As I am nearing the end of my undergraduate journey, I find that I am being asked
more frequently as to what my plans are after graduation. When I respond that I am
applying to graduate school and I am really excited about continuing my education,
I often receive the same reaction: a look of utter confusion and the question Why?
The answer is simple: I love learning. I think that knowledge gives one more power
than possessing riches, fame, or an army ever could. To quote the Doctor in my
favorite TV show, Doctor Who, he says You want weapons? We re in a library!
Books! The best weapons in the world! This room s the greatest arsenal we could
have arm yourselves! This quote illustrates exactly how I feel about possessing
knowledge. There isn t a problem in this world that a little bit of erudition can t

My mother raised my two siblings and me with the principle to serve others first;
thus it is not a coincidence that my siblings and I are all interested careers in the
justice field. My older brother Ryan served 6 years in the Marines and now he is in
the Air Force. My twin sister Kori is exploring a career as a police officer. I am
interested criminology. As I reflect upon my life, I have discovered that this is a
subject I have always been extremely interested in. For as long as I can remember, I
have always been watching other people. I study their actions, their facial
expressions, I wonder what they re thinking about, and what drives them to make
certain decisions. I was introduced to the idea of criminology in high school and I was
immediately drawn in. I know now that I have always been interested in criminology;
however, as a person that enjoys multi tasking, working on projects, evaluating
information and implementing various processes to arrive at a solution, I now want
to expand my knowledge beyond the undergraduate level. I believe my ambitions can

43. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Books consist of more than just paper, books act as warning to society. Books put
actions into perspective, then they show the consequences of those actions. Books
continue to make people reevaluate their decisions, make a person feel, and books
relate to real life. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury the society remains
dysfunctional and on the brink of collapsing; suicide rates remain at an all time high,
murders happen every day, information stays censored, the educationsystem remains
flawed. Now, all of these things can also describe another society, America. The
fictional society in Fahrenheit 451and America have many things in common, only
proving further, that America remains on a downward spiral. First, modern American
society relates to the society in Fahrenheit 451 through education. In Fahrenheit 451
schools have the kids sit in a classroom and learn from a TV. When Clarisse a
seventeen year old girl who lives next to the protagonist, asks questions about the
school work, the other kids call her peculiar. While talking with Montag, the main
character in the book, Montag asks about school, Clarisse tells him I m antisocial,
they say. I don t mix. (26) she only wants to comprehend the topic better, and the
other teens ridicule her. In both America and in Fahrenheit 451 the education system
remains faulty and unsuccessful. Education in America prevails horrible,
approximately 70 percent of eighth grade students read below the standard expected
from them. Other

utilizes the advantages it possesses to insulate itself against the changing
marketplace due to it s diverse streams of revenue. The role of the music publisher
has evolved over the years, for many music companies, it has become nothing more
than a banking operation, and for some, this is at the cost of innovation and passion.

The PRS is a UK company, and it represents over a million foreign music copyright
owners via its affiliation with other collection societies overseas. When you join
with the PRS, there is a small joining fee (of which, is constantly changing) and
you basically assign your performing rights to the PRS. There is a small criteria to
fulfill in order to join the PRS and that is that you have your music either being
broadcast on the radio/TV, or it is being performed live. The music publisher will
be responsible for registering your (and now, their) material with the PRS (and
collection societies all around the world this may just require the songwriter to fill
in a form and file it with the society, and sometimes it requires a recording and a
written copy of the music and lyrics aka. lead sheet ). Step 2 involves the publisher
finding uses for the songwriter s music. The most typical way (if the writer is not
an artist) is to find an artist to perform, record and release the song, this works
significantly well if a high rolling artist expresses an interest it could be life

45. I Went Go See Is Silly No More By Christian Gilliam
The title of the play I went to go see is Silly No More by Christian Gilliam. The
production was held at Bob Duncan Center on the seventh of October at two o
clock. Silly No More is about a mother who is trying to get her family together for
her birthday party. Her family members haven t spoken to each other in years and
their lives are full of sin, dysfunction, past hurts and pains. Upon a journey to both
physical and spiritual in hopes of restoring her familywith the healing power of Jesus
Christ. She finally gains her family trust and love. My overall impression of Silly
No More that it had a great plot and that it was well written, but he had a few minor
issues. My first thought was that this play seems as if his inspiration came from his
own personal life and that this is his first play. That him and his own family had
taken a similar spiritual journey. The theme of Silly No More is Comedy, Spiritual
/Religious, and Drama/Suspense. The comedy was not really emphasized on the play
as I had hope, the only thing that was funny was the Aunt Margaret and her pun lines.
Drama/Suspense was implied in a stronger way than the Comedy. For example, when
the grandmother found out that her grandchild was using drugs because of her
mother had done it in front of her. Finally, the last theme is Religious/Spiritual, this
theme was throughout this whole play, before and after. They had prayer before and
after, a lot of gospel songs and Jesus Christ showed through each scene.
46. Beowulf Relationships Essay
Throughout the epic, Beowulf, time plays a role of foreshadowing the limitation of
power and relationships. In the beginning, Beowulf s men are portrayed to be loyal
to Beowulf, and so is his power. However, the ending of the story reveals Beowulf to
be weakened with his mentality and physicality. The men retreated once they
confronted with the Dragon, which implies the imperfection within things that
humanity perceives to last for eternity. The men surely perceive their lives to be more
precious than Beowulfs loyalty, which is an indication of humanity s phobia of death
as life is not an eternal thing.

The armor is also an indication of the luxurious living style that a civilization
established within the story, which contradicts with the notion of natural wealth
when the Green Knight arrives. The golden pentangle with the overlapping lines
on Sir Gawain s scarlet shield represents the eternal knightly virtues, which
includes friendship, generosity, courtesy, chastity, and piety. These five significant
virtues of Sir Gawain are challenged and tested by the Green Knight in order to
perceive that the Camelot citizens mere boastful words can be proven by actions.
Sir Gawain, an adherence of the chivalry codes, must abide by these substantial
virtues in order to become an idealistic knight. Later on in the story, Sir Gawain is
introduced with a green girdle, which is portrayed to possess magical properties that
can keep a human being from harm. This item is noteworthy, because it is the
turning point of a change for Sir Gawain s virtue and morality. It provokes a sense of
selfishness within Sir Gawain, which makes him deviate from the chivalry codes. The
green girdle also represents humanity s potential to

affects how media handles social claims (149). The chapter also brings ups how
social media can play a part in claimsmaking (153). Lastly, the chapter brings up
how the media impacts us (155). Best talks about how the news has become the way

This paper examines the role of persuasion within the Reid and PEACE model
techniques of interrogation and how race and stereotype threats influence these
interrogation styles. False confession is also defined and discussed. A variety of race
and cultures are included, focusing primarily on African American and Caucasian
individuals. Police interrogationcan be persuasive in many ways and effects the
potential suspect physiologically and psychologically. Considering the discussed
effects of police interrogation, the PEACE model technique seems to be the most
persuasive technique of police interrogation. The PEACE model technique is
preferred more among police and among the different studies.

murdering his older sister in their childhood home. Crow was interrogated for ten
hours when he eventually admitted to a crime he did not commit. Through his
interrogation, Crow showed signs of distress. When Crow would say that he had a
feeling he killed his sister the interrogator went along with what Crow said and tried
to get an even greater confession out of him by being coercive and confrontational.
As the interrogation progressed Crow s level of distress became greater. Crow was
going back and forth between whether he murdered his sister or not. At

feelings and choices, as well as the reasons for the choices. The reader is allowed to
closely observe Sammy s observations and first impressions of the three girls who

understand this short story, one must first recognize the social climate of the era, the
age of the main character, and the temptation this individual faces. Sammy is a
product of his generation. In the 1960s the social climate was changing. The new

This seems almost ridiculous as far as today s standards, where in the grocery
store, people wear garments that vary from business suits to skimpy pajamas and
bedroom slippers wandering the produce section. One has to wonder what Sammy
would do if he worked in a grocery store today! The other side of the culture of the
time is the rebellious attitude that Sammy has toward his boss. So I say I quit to
Lengel quick enough for them to hear, hoping they ll stop and watch me, their
unsuspected hero (81). He quits because the manager has embarrassed the girls. He
throws caution to the wind and walks away from his job, but remembering his
manners, politely leaves his bow tie and apron behind. He wants to throw off all his
responsibilities and follow these girls wherever they are going, and instead of
listening to the good reasoning of his manager, he does as he pleases. Some of this
rebellious attitude can certainly be chalked up to age. Sammy is a teenage boy
who is confronted with three nearly unclothed girls on a hot day in the summer.
Instead of being outside having fun, he s stuck inside working at a menial job.
These girls are a carrot dangling on a stick, just out of his reach. He decides to take
matters into his own hands and cut the string holding the carrot, even though the girls
are gone by the time he gets outside. It is characteristic of teenagers to do as they
50. Atheism Essay
Atheism
People in our society today who have the atheist point of view on religion, which is
the belief that there is no god, are going against the so called norms of society, and
therefor are seen as deviant. Deviance is just an idea. Society determines what is
deviant by the ideas they hold of what should be the norm. Atheism is seen as a
negative deviance, or below the norm. They have a status that is placed on them in
society. It doesn t necessarily mean that they believe in evil, although that is how it
is sometimes viewed from people in society who have a specific religion or faith.

But as god beliefs have grown more absurd because of increasing knowledge, some
have felt compelled to point out difficulties with these beliefs. And, as religion has
grown more tyrannical, atheists have seen the need to organize in defense of
freedom. Atheism has a long and colorful history, but that history has been largely
hidden from the public s view due to religious suppression. It is therefore, with great
effort, that modern atheists are re discovering their heritage. Some early Greek
philosophers were among the first to write down atheistic ideas. Great thinkers such
as Heraclitus, Democritus, Protagorus, and Lucretius expressed views that questioned
the existence of gods. Atheism gained a permanent foothold in western culture during
the Renaissance and through the Enlightenment. But atheism truly began to thrive
around the beginning of the 20th century in what is called the Freethought
movement. Current trends indicate that the popularity of atheism should continue to
increase into the next century.
Sir Thomas Huxley coined the term agnostic in 1869. Popularly the word agnostic is
felt to mean that the nature of god cannot be known but that there is a god. Therefore
the agnostic is accepted in the community and he is accepted by the church, unlike
those labeled or known as atheists . Agnosticism is very closely related to the
religious doctrine that the ways of god are incomprehensible, that human reason is
deceptive and that man requires a

Of...
Physical punishment has been around for decades. However, many falsely believe
that the use of this parenting style has slowly faded away. Unfortunately, it has
become more common and ranges from minor to severe depending on the parent.
This method of correction has been passed down through generations and the history
of it is a major contribution to the problem. Just because it happens does not mean it
is acceptable. The desired results are rarely achieved and the children are negatively
impacted for the rest of their lives. Corporal punishmentneeds to be eliminated as a
means of behavior modification due to its ineffectiveness and cruelty. In relation to

According to Smith, physical discipline among children was proven to cause
aggression, damage to social relationships, poorer academic achievement, weak
parent child relationships, and development of internal problems such as anxiety or
depression (n.d., para 1.). The negative long term effects that physical punishment
produces are not worth the short period of time that a child complies. If more parents
were informed on the damages that follow corporal punishment, this means of
guidance and instruction could possibly decrease ensuring a higher quality of life for
children in the future. With this in mind, a child who withstands physical punishment
has a likelihood of growing up to be emotionally unstable. Undergoing this type of
treatment reaches the child to the core and begins to deteriorate their ability to
function as an independent member of society. Physical punishment that is
considered child abuse can lead to low self esteem, brain damage, attention disorders
and substance abuse, states the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
(Case, 2014, para.5). Whether the inflictions are severe enough to cross the line of
abuse or not, any form of this misconduct must be eliminated to spare the child of
obstacles they will face in the future due to the emotional deficiency. Cognitively
speaking, children who experience physical punishment have a reduced ability to
