2. Dr. Ronnie s Presentation On Abortion And Its Current
Laws
Dr. Ronnie gave an excellent presentation this past week on abortion and its current
laws. We were able to discuss quite a few abortion laws prior to 1952, as well as take
a look at some more recent laws. In 2015, Pennsylvania created a bill entitled HB
1948 which reduced the time frame that a woman could have an abortionfrom 24
weeks to 20 weeks. Although it didn t make it past the state senate, it was
considered several times. Dr. Ronnie brought up several controversial legislative
questions, one of them being, Does a woman have to be on her deathbed or likely to
die to get a legal abortion? Although the 1967 therapeutic abortion act, signed by
Ronald Reagan, said that abortions were only legal if a woman had been made
pregnant through

Acetic acid and Vinegars
By Deepshikha Shah
Research Question:
To what extent does the strength and amount of acetic acid differ in two different
types of vinegars?
INTRODUCTION:
During my internship at the Darjeeling zoo over the summer, I observed that vinegar
was used in treating infections, cleaning and as well as healing the ruminant
digestive systems of animals, and so, it interested me how the acidity varied in
different types of vinegar. Vinegar is also used in commercial and pharmaceutical
companies. Different types of vinegar can be used for a range of different purposes
such as cleaning, reducing calcium deficiencies, treating sunburns, preparing pickles
and other preserves, etc. To do this, however,... Show more content on

of moles = molarity x volume
The acetic acid content of a vinegar may be determined by titrating a vinegar sample
with a solution of sodium hydroxide of known molar concentration (molarity).
Acid + Base Salt + Water
CH3COOH (aq) + NaOH (aq) CH3COONa (aq) + H20 (l)
At the end point in titration, stoichiometry between both the solutions lie in a 1 : 1
ratio.
Calculating the molarity of acetic acid in vinegar:

5. Analysis and Action for a Community s Health Essay
Community: Riverdale Riverdale is an upscale community in the Northwestern
corner of the Bronx bordered by the Hudson River, Broadway, the Bronx
/Westchester county line and the Harlem River. It is accessible by the BX buses 7,
9, 10, 20, the 1 the 9 train, the Bee Line 1,2 3 and the Metro North Railroad. It is
also accessible by the Henry Hudson Parkway. Riverdale is apart of Community
District 8 and the 10471 zip code, which includes Kingsbridge, Marble Hill and
Spuyten Duyvil This community is composed of many hills and slopes, which can be
a potential danger during the winter months. In most areas, the pavement is relatively
smooth but some sidewalks have chunks of uneven and unsteady rocks. There are

Because of the temporary nature of construction work, it is safe to assume that it
would not disturb the entire community. Economically, Riverdale seems to be an
affluent community. The assets to the neighborhood would be the private schools,
colleges, banks and various religious centers. As for liabilities, none was present on
our tour of the neighborhood. There aren t much large chain stores like K Mart or
Old Navy in Riverdale and the only ones we saw were CVS and Eckerd. There aren
t any fast food chain restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, etc.
The shopping area is composed of ice cream parlors, art galleries, wine stores, pet
shops, flower shops, Korean stores for your Caribbean products, jewelry stores,
pizza shops, pharmacies, gift shops, etc. We saw just 2 laundromats in the area. It
can be assumed that residents here do their own laundry at their homes. We also
saw a few dry cleaners on the main road. For recreation, Riverdale residents don t
have much of a variety of activities. Nearby Riverdale is Van Courtlandt Park.
Located here is a Riverdale Equestrian Centre where people can go horseback
riding. There are parks in the area such as Spuyten Duyvil Playground and Riverdale
Playground but in general, there are no recreational centers. Similar to recreational
centers, there wasn t a large number of clubs or associations. The only thing that
would count as a club was a fitness center for women. The dominant religion
6. We Are Dancing In The Club Analysis
This essay We are Dancing in the Club, Not on the Berlin Wall by Damani James
Partridge, explores the fetishization of Black males in Germany after the fall of the
Berlin Wall. Partridge examines the phenomenon of White German women desiring
Black men through the settings of nightclubs in Berlin. She justifies this phenomenon
to be the result of the rejection of Germany s racist history through her
acknowledgement of the realities of patriarchy, Nazi genocide and German guilt,
African Americanmilitary occupation, and the success of African American popular
culture have led to a situation in which white German women openly desire black
men. (Partridge, 680) Though they were once regarded to be like a forbidden fruit,
the end of WWII allowed women to openly and actively pursue them. (Partridge, 664)
However, this new relationship between White German women and Black men, was
not just a unilateral beneficiary. One used the other for sexual desire, while... Show

Selby, we are introduced to the struggles between secularism and culture. Selby
explores the effects of French secularism on the freedom of religion of Muslim
women by examining the relationship between gender, race, and freedom. The idea of
feminine sexuality in relation to freedom has resulted in the decision by France
and Canada to consider women wearing the hijab and niqab in public to be
unacceptable. While Western ideas of female sexuality are described in one way, the
veils and covering of Muslim women designate the beliefs of their culture. Selby
challenges the argument made by the French politicians to be racist and sexist
excuses. This article was very insightful as Selby eloquently brings attention to the
reality that female sexuality is defined differently across the world, so we should be
more open minded and respectful of other cultures and their
7. Irony In Susan Glaspell s Trifles
The short story Trifles, by Susan Glaspell is a mystery murder story that takes
place in a time where men are superior to woman and that women s rights has not
been recognized, and how women were considered their husbands property. The
irony associated with the title Trifles can be explained in many ways. There are
events that cause the women to unite and hide the evidence from the men. Mrs.
Glaspell is sending out a message to her female readers. To begin with, the title
Trifles is ironic because Trifles explores far more than minor matters as it attempts to
show the serious consequences of dismissing the feelings and troubles of individuals.
It is the seemingly minor issues and that trifles expose the psychological effects that
Mrs. Wright s life had on her and the outcome is anything... Show more content on

And instead, the men look upstairs in the bedroom and outside in the barn for clues.
The title Trifles is a form of verbal irony by both being an understatement or sarcasm
and that the very important roles and work these women play in their home. As Hale
says sarcastically in the play, Well, women are used to worrying over trifles. Also is
that if Hale, the Attorney, and the Sheriff would have understood women s work, then
the dead canary and the condition of the stitching, if they might have found enough
clues and a motive then they would have been able to convict Mrs. Wright, but
because the women had realize that Mrs. Wright s victimization by her husband and
the sexist attitudes of their own husbands, they decide to keep quiet and protect Mrs.
Wright from going to a prison because they themselves have gone through the same
thing as Mrs. Wright and having been living in a domestic prison for so long.
Additionally, there are many events that transpired to cause the women in the play to
suppress the evidence in the play. The men all throughout the story tease and ridicule
the women about the small

Through the trajectory of my life, there have been many experiences that have
contributed to my drive to pursue a legal education and seek social justice. From
my family, to my volunteer activities, to my present employment; every single thing
I have taken part in over the last 21 years has played a role in my desire to study and
practice law.
Last December, I received the most definitive phone call of my university career. I
was selected amongst a high number of applicants to be the Head of the Social
Science Orientation Program. I had committed countless hours to this program, my
team, our charity initiatives, and my first year mentees. I was now responsible for
selecting, training, and leading 90 volunteers through the execution of a successful
orientation week, and first year, for 1,700 incoming students. Beyond my designated
role of implementing programming and managing a $20,000 budget, I had two
crucial obligations within this position. First, I was to build a team with strong
leadership skills, to ensure that the incoming class would receive adequate ... Show

My goal is to use my education and critical thinking skills to find solutions and light
in dark situations. I want to pair my commitment to justice and my compassion for
others with a law degree in order to have the chance to improve the quality of life of
those in need and help them to regain hope. The University of Ottawa Faculty of
Law can provide me with that chance. Ottawa s Law school shares my passion for
leadership and community engagement, as made evident through the variety of hands
on experiences available through legal clinics that work closely with the law school.
At Ottawa, I can achieve an exceptional education and continue my active
involvement on campus and within the community. The opportunity to real world

9. Analysis Of The Oppositonal Gaze By Bell Hooks
[1] In bell hooks childhood and upbringing as a woman of color in a society that is
dominated by patriarchy, it was hard for her to find images of herself in the media.
In her essay The Oppositonal Gaze: Black Female Spectators , she details how
black women do not see themselves properly represented in media due to a white
patriarchal society. Rather than showing the full scope of black women and their
diverse qualities and characteristics, they are generalized and forced to fit one
particular stereotype. With this image repeated time and time again, it is solidified in
the minds of the masses and this results in the underrepresented minority having a
lowered status upon viewing such media (hooks 118). This status forces them to look

As history is written by the victors, those in power decide what is included in
history and what is left out, either intentional or simply out of negligence. Upon
viewing Walker s work, it becomes evident that the skepticism that hooks argues is
needed to create a truth from the distortions of film is also necessary when
analyzing written history. The sketch is the embodiment of the very skepticism that
defines the oppositional gaze. As hooks questions the way in which black women
are presented in a single light, Walker s gaze is interrogative of the praise bestowed
unto individuals who are favored by those who decide what is included in written
history. She dismantles idealistic representations of those deemed heroes. Her search
for truth may appear to be ill mannered, but her cause is noble enough to justify these
means of expression.
[3] To understand how Walker applies the oppositional gaze hooks describes, we
must first see how her work creates a look that opposes the traditionally accepted
representation. Her piece places a great importance on the actions of viewing and
looking. The image itself appears to be occurring within a fisheye lens, a type of
visual distortion that is commonly used to achieve a wider scope and array of angles
of view, allowing for a variety of perspectives to be analyzed. One of importance is
the gaze of the black woman
10. Indi Similarities And Differences And Contrast India And...
Our task for this term is to compare and contrast Australia and an Asian country. This
report will highlight the similarities and differences between my chosen country India
and Australia.
Location And Population
India is located at coordinates of 20.5937В° N, 78.9629В° E and is 3.287 million
kmВІ in landmass. This is fairly small compared to Australia with 7.692 million
kmВІ in landmass. Australia is located at coordinates of 25.2744В° S, 133.7751В°E.
Further more even though Australia is bigger it still has a smaller people per kmВІ
rate. At 3 people per kmВІ this is miniature compared to India with gigantic rate of
382 people kmВІ.there is also huge difference in population as Australia has
21,508,000 and India with a enormous population of 1,326,572,000 the difference
between these populations are 1,305,064,000.
Flags
The flag of a country is always unique and represents the countries values. India s
flag has the colours green, white and orange going horizontal in this order. In the
middle of the white is something called the Ashoka Chakra it is a 24 spoke wheel
that represents the 33 inscriptions on the pillars of Ashoka. As well as boulders and
cave walls the emperor had built. In contrast Australia s flag is also very unique as
it has the Southern Cross and the union jack. The union jack was adopted from
English flag. The union jack is the British flag. The union jack is on the flag because
Australia is still ruled by British Empire. The colours of the Australian flag
11. Pierre Elliot Trudeau s War Measures Act
Just watch me are the defiant words uttered by Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot
Trudeau in response to the Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ), a Marxist group
captaining Quebec independence through indiscriminate political violence. His words
are not those of an iron fisted strongman, despite how strong and undetailed his
comments were at the time, but those of a calculated and well versed leader, whose
decisions came at the behest of prominent Quebecpoliticians. The FLQ instilled a
decade of social violence in the streets of Quebec by systemically championing the
struggles of French minorities who perceived unjust treatment in everyday life. Their
qualms quickly evolved from protest to a Marxist movement, which incorporated

LaPorte was later killed in the first assassination since Thomas d Arcy McGee and
Cross s life was traded for immunity for some FLQ members. These actions set off
the only implementation of the act in non wartime eras, reinforcing the limits of
justice and political process. LaPorte was not an enemy of the group, rather a
Quebec minister of labour. Upon his death, it was stated, LaPorte was killed and
left in the drunk of an abandoned car. In addition to the murder of LaPorte, the
FLQ s actions were responsible for the deaths of seven people (Gurr, Ross, 1989).
The murder of an elected diplomat, in execution style displayed the absolute,
unwavering need for Trudeau to rule with absolute power. The FLQ had grown
powerful enough to kill elected politicians and Trudeau needed to send a military
message that there would not be a violation of Canadian ideals. The military stance
was an effective message and provided necessary backup to police forces to deal
with the threat of selective assassination. This response was as moral as it was
military, and enforced confidence in both Canada s military, but also Trudeau. His
actions could dismantle and scatter the youth of the FLQ, and brought
12. How Does Chopin Present The Women In The Story Of An
Hour
Although Chopin wrote the piece The Story of an Hour during a time of patriarchal
societies set in the 1800 s, she explores the inner female mind through the use of her
feminine lens. During the story, the author walks through the events of Louise
Mallard. A family friend informs her of the death of her husband. The majority of the
story focuses on the complex emotions Louise feels throughout the hour. The story
ends with the arrival of Brently Mallard and the sudden death of Louise. By showing
the reader the true thoughts of opinion, Chopin utilizes, shows, connects the activities
of one womanto those of all women in similar situations.
In this piece, Chopin addresses women through the power of men in relationships.
In 1894, women held no power over their lives and relationship; they relied heavily
on the men in their lives to provide for the family. The death of Brently Mallard
introduced Louise to the freedom. Because he no longer is in control of the
household, she will now be able to experience life on her terms and live for herself.
She enforces this through her statement, there would no powerful will bending hers

Louise. The window serves as a vantage point not only to the outside world but also

though the physical traits around her have not changed. Chopin specifically
describes the setting outside as particularly delightful to emphasize the pleasant life

reinforced by the repetition of the word open which shows the new opportunities she

Whereas it is argued that burnout is one major factor that diminishes an
academician s performance; developing resilience skills may counter the process
and is thus very crucial (Toker, 2011). When things seem to be going in the wrong
direction, working towards a resilient state is the best response. Resilient adults are
able to maintain positive relationships, solve problems skilfully, stay inspired, and
derive some sense of meaning from challenges (Ee Chang, 2010). According to
Benders and Jackson (2012), teachers who are equipped with resilience are the ones
with an optimistic outlook towards the overall education system as well as teaching.

Despite these stressful life experiences, many individuals manage to endure and
overcome the temporary upheaval of these traumatic events remarkably well, with
no apparent disruption in their ability to function at work or in close relationships.
This situation is referred to as resilience , which is one s capacity to maintain a
pattern of low distress and adequate functioning following stressful experiences
(Bonanno, Moskowitz, Papa, Folkman, 2005). Individuals found to exhibit
psychological resilience, are thought to possess a number of specific personal
attributes that contribute to their ability to approach difficult situations in a way
that adds to their resilient nature and to which serves to continually expand their
personal and psychological strength (Akgemci, Demirsel, Kara, 2013). Tugade and
Fredrickson (2004) proposed that what may set people with high levels of
psychological resilience apart from those with low levels of psychological resilience
is a capacity to learn from the setbacks of life and to utilize that knowledge as a
means of coping more effectively in the

16. Causes Of The California Gold Rush
In history whenever there is an event that can benefit or change the course of
someone s life for the better, people try to come and join the cause. This is what
happened in the California and Colorado Gold Rush. The Colorado and California
Gold Rush during the 1800s brought thousands of people to the west in search of
gold. Although many people tried to strike it rich, the Native Americans suffered
disruption to their lands. The gold rushhelped keep the fire sparked between the
Native Americans and the colonizers. While the gold rush did help bring the east
and west together and boost the economy. The first gold rush that happened in the
United States was in California. This was in 1849 when a man named James
Marshall found gold while he was building a sawmill on his property. After this
speck of gold was found the word spread around California. Once the word was
through California and other people started finding gold the news got to the 11th
U.S. president, James Polk. James then sparked the gold rush by announcing that
gold was being found in California without a problem, You ll find it anywhere you
dig down there. . One year earlier Mexico gave up the California territory at the end
the of the Mexican American War. The sudden change of land ownership caused
conflict between the Mexican Americans and the Californians.
Fast forward 10 years to the start of the Colorado Gold Rush in 1859. In Colorado
there were many rumors that gold was being found in the Rocky

Soon after being selected as an Aviation Department Head, the old saying of do
your boss job better than they do it began playing like a record in my mind. A
solid, steadfast and genuine command philosophy is key to a successful tour in
one of the most sought after positions of military leadership. In order to effectively
do my boss job and excel with my piece of the puzzle as a squadron leader, I began
to ponder what my command philosophy would encompass. What do I value in a
Commanding Officer? What pillars do I live by that represent who I am or who I
want to be? Furthermore, will these pillars provide the necessary foundation for my
Sailors to rely upon when faced with difficult decisions, mission driven or otherwise,
in the absence of leadership? To assist me in developing a philosophy of my own, I
requested the guidance of one of my former Commanding Officers and mentors. My
admiration for what he has accomplished as a leader and aviator is undeniably great.
Thus, the topic of most challenging command decision made it easy for me to
pinpoint an interviewee. Analyzing his thoughts and actions, who he sought
assistance from and how he handled the situation overall shed light on what I would
do if I were in the same position. Following a summary of the interview, I will
compare his actions to my own thoughts at this current stage in my career while using
my own command philosophy as a guide. Learning from the triumphs and failures of
the past has proven

Developing a Health Advocacy Campaign
Living a long, thriving and healthy life is a vision many Americans strive to make
into a reality. Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS epidemic has deprived many people of
this dream. HIV/AIDS is one of the worlds most serious and the deadliest diseases
and a $30.4 billion drain on healthcare cost in the United States, and of this figures
57% is appropriated for routine care, 10% for housing and social support assistance,
9% for research and 22% for global assistance to address the epidemic (The Henry J.
Kaiser Foundation, 2016). According to Small Kerr, (2011), HIV/AIDS research has
had a long and peculiar history in evidence based advances related to disease
management, education, and antiretroviral medication. With all the advances to
increase HIV/AIDS awareness, access to care, fear of stigma and lack of
confidentiality act as reasoning for treatment and testing refusal. The purpose of this
paper is to discuss the possible course of public policy mandate reporting and
incorporating responses to legal and ethical dilemmas through effective advocacy
programs and supportive lobbyists.

Bringing Joy to People in Poverty Giving back to those who are less fortunate is
something that should be obliged as being an individual who is a part of the

does not have the money to get them these things. When people go to a clothes
closet, it s because that they are in need of clothes and can t afford it. When

Additionally, being given something can make individuals feel like a worthy part of
the community. Indeed, I hope to gain by completing this project is that the
gratification of assisting individuals such as children to bring joy into their lives with
donations. Furthermore, I hope to gain by completing this project is that to
implement ways to get involved and help the community. The issue we have chosen
to address with the service project is that many innocent people are living in poverty
and it isn t right to live that way due to their low income, which leads to decreasing
the individual s happiness and reduce their ability to thrive and succeed. By this
issue, there are people affected because many families can t supply the right items or
supplies for themselves due to low income. According to the United States Census
Bureau, in 2014, about 46.7 million people are suffering from this issue alone in the
United States. The number of people living in poverty is slightly rising each year.
Yet, organizations such as the Family GivingTree and the Milpitas Food Pantry exist
to address the issue we picked. The plan we had created as a group has four parts to
it. First, we needed to contact the organization about where to deliver the donations,
since the Family Giving Tree had a warehouse and a office located at different places
and we weren t sure where to deliver the donations. We

The two of them also represent something else. They represent all the good and bad
that you can inherit from your ancestors. It s true, you may get their wealth and
assets, but if you are unlucky, you are almost certain to get their debts as well.
Poor Hephzibah represents the unlucky inheritor. She lost her wealth and fallen to
a working class state. Her situation is the perfect symbol for economic change. She
was once an aristocrat, as she refers to herself as a woman instead of a lady, who is
forced to work in a store in her own house because of her loss of wealth. She begins
to feel hatred for the wealthy because of this, for what good end, in the wisdom of
providence, does that women live. Must the whole world toil, that the palms of
her hands may be kept white and delicate? (Hawthorne 55). This is ironic because
Hephzibah was once wealthy herself, But I was born a lady, and have always lived
one no matter in what narrowness of means, always a lady. (Hawthorne 45). To feel
bitterness for the person, who she used to be, shows how far Hephzibah has fallen
and how important money is. Luckily, money didn t affect her morality completely as
she immediately regrets her thinking. Of course, this wouldn t be the only time that
Hephzibah s morality would be
22. The Battle Of Saratog The Major Turning Point Of The...
The Battle of Saratoga is considered to be the major turning point of the American
Revolution. This battle proved to the world that the fledgling American army was
an effective fighting force capable of defeating the highly trained British forces in a
major conflict. As a result of this successful battle, the European powers, primarily
France, took interest in the insurrection of the Americans and began to support
them. In the British Campaign of 1777, Lord George Germain and Major General
Burgoyne planned a comprehensive advance of three columns to meet in Albany,
New York. Burgoyne would lead the main column, which moved southward along
the Hudson River. A second column under General Barry St. Leger would serve as a
diversionary attack, moving eastward from Canada along the Mohawk River.
General William Howe would direct the third element of the attack. According to the
plan, Howe would direct General Henry Clinton to move northward along the
Hudson River and link up with Burgoyne in Albany. The goal of this plan was to
isolate and destroy the Continental forces of New England, effectively splitting the
Colonies along the Hudson River and ending the American Revolution. Initially, the
British plan appeared to be working. Burgoyne s army continually pushed back the
Americans southward along the Hudson River with only minor casualties. Burgoyne
s invasion force comprised of 9,000 men, including 4,200 British regulars, 4,000
German mercenaries, 400 Indian warriors, and

24. Zombies In Vampires And Zombies
Vampires and zombies are popular characters for Halloween party costumes. Both
ghastly creatures taken from urban myths have one thing common that is real. It is
rabies, an infectious disease spread through the bite of an infected animal such as the
dog.
Inside Science reported that the mystery behind how the tiny virus exerts its influence
has been revealed. Researchers found that a fragment of one of the proteins of the
virus can change animal behavior.
Altering animal behavior
The fragment of the virus protein blocks vital chemical messengers in the brain. It
was enough to stop the pumping of the digestive tracts of worms and make rodents
run frantically around their cages. When rabies infects dogs, the animal becomes bold
and highly aggressive.
It will attack people and other creatures that will flee. The rabies infected animal loses
the ability to swallow, causing its mouth to overflow with infectious saliva. When an
infected dog bites a person, the virus will die without infecting anyone. But the
human bite victim often behaves in disturbing and extreme ways. Thiravat
Hemenachudha, a rabies researcher and neurologist at the Neuroscience Centre for
Research and Development, said the bite victims often scream and overreact to any
stimuli, both light and sound. The patient must be injected with up to 480 milligrams
of intravenous valium daily. It is 96 times the dose which sends people to doze right
away.
Patients injected with valium will sleep immediately. It is an

27. Symbols and Symbolism in The Great Gatsby Essay
Symbolism in The Great Gatsby
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby has more relevance in today s society than it did when
it was written. With the recent societal trend that emphasizes lack of morals and
material wealth over a meaningful existence, Fitzgerald s message really hits home.
Which is more important money or love? Social status or being true to oneself?
Fitzgerald uses metaphor and symbols to great effect in order to illustrate what can
happen when the pursuit of happiness becomes warped (by American ideals) into the
pursuit of money.
One of the major symbols in the novel is the color green. Green represents the hopes
and dreams of people striving to accomplish the American dream of wealth and glory.

The valley of ashes represents the byproduct of a nation obsessed with money. It is
filled with the gray industrial ashes of the factories that helped to catapult dreamers
to the top of the world. It also symbolizes the lower class. The people living in the
towns nearby are described as gray and solemn. They are washed up because they
were unable to accomplish their goals and fulfill the American dream. Wilson, for
example, is described as someone with an ashen, dust veiled suit and pale hair. The
ash heap is described as a place where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills. As
those ashes pile up, they bury the hopes of people seeking the American dream.
The towns of East and West Egg are also symbolic. The people of East Egg
represent those who already have wealth from inheritance. The people of West Egg
represent those people who have gained their wealth through hard work and
business. Gatsby has lots of money but he will always be subtly incompatible with
the affluent society of East Egg. East Egg also represents old money and the east
coast, whereas West Egg represents new money and the west coast. Throughout the
novel, characters openly rebuke the west. For example, early in the novel Nick says,
Oh, I ll stay in the East, don t you worry.
The weather is another symbol that is used primarily for the purpose of setting the
general mood of the book. Moments of death

Propaganda is the specialty of influencing others to your side of the story as the
right way of thinking. The propaganda forms used in today s society end up treating
people as a means rather an end. Basically, it looks at people today, as being
incapable of making wise choices and researching out the matter fully. Propagandais
unavoidable and it is all over in places such as social media, newspapers, television
and advertisements. In addition, the feelings that individuals have toward the
activities that are taking place constantly change contingent upon their own
perspective. However, being inundated with influential thoughts of outside sources on

My goal is to have my reader have a better understanding of how propaganda is
used and the ability to identify it. I also want to allow my reader to become
informed on how it can affect presidential elections and governmental actions that
affect people in the USA. In doing some research, I have come across how there are
different techniques that are used for accomplishing the desired goal of those that
use it. According to Jo Anne Gill s Propaganda Techniques, she has described it as, a
propaganda technique is an improper appeal to emotion used for the purpose of
swaying the opinions of an audience. She goes on to list six different types which
include 1) Bandwagon: getting people to follow the same pattern as everyone else.
2) Snob appeal: appealing to those who should perform a certain way in order to feel
a sense of luxuriousness. 3) Vague, undefined terms: which are oftentimes
meaningless words used to challenge opinions. 4) Loaded words: words used with
emotion such as name calling. 5) Transfer: association patterns between both positive
and negative elements. 6) Unreliable testimonial: People who are unqualified in

suddenly, she heard her mom call out her name. Oh no, Julianna whimpered. Mom

then ran to meet her mother. At that moment, a butterfly landed on Hugo s nose.
The fluttering wings made Hugo sneeze loudly. What was that? Mom wondered as

32. Magnet Schools Case Study
Public schools need to be competitive and imaginative when marketing their
campuses so they are viewed by the community as safe and with stronger academic
programs. It is imperative to improve the quality of teaching and learning in
schools because people like to be part of a successful system. The push to market
traditional districts and regular schools is stronger than it s been before, said Rich
Bagin, the executive director of the National School Public Relations Association in
Rockville, Md. We have principals coming to us and saying we have a great school
here, but everybody seems to be leaning toward what s new (Samuels, 2012). The
new can redefined as public education and can be achieved through marketing by

Magnet schools remain part of the public school system and operate under the same
administration and school board (Chen, 2015). Magnet schools have a specialized
curricular focus such as science, technology, engineering, and math. It also focuses
on the arts and educational or career paths. Magnet schools are schools of choice
and students are enrolled based on their interest. Funding for magnet schools differ
from public schools because they receive additional funding for their students
covering supplies, teachers, and educational programs. Magnet schools give parents
an option of sending their child to a school with a specialized focus. The fact that
magnet schools offer families a choice with regard to their child s education is seen
as a primary advantage as well. This increased competition, supporters argue, actually
benefits children in all schools, magnet or otherwise, because public schools seek to
improve their academic programs in order to keep students in their schools (Chen,

they clean of off any surface that it grows on. With RCS you will not need any

Foucault describes modality as the act of controlling how bodies move, the process
they perform, and how they enact them through which disciplines works. I partially
agree with Foucault because yes! There are some movements, body performance
like dancing, playing musical instruments, etc. that can be controlled, but there are
some other common actions like when we are sad, we are crying, then that
sympathy part of our nature comes into play, and its almost impossible to control
our emotions and the body actions at that time. We all know that body is the subject
of attention. Now, however, the body is not subject to torture but to forces of
discipline and control. It is very weird that we treat our body like a machine. We tend

But when it comes to the doctor, I agree that they can really know some simple

36. A Domestic Dilemma Character Analysis
Carson McCullers usage of literary elements, including setting, character, and conflict,
contributes to the overall development of the theme of patience that is present
throughout the book. Martin Meadows, the protagonist in the story, is portrayed as a
hardworking and persevering man with a great amount of love for his family; the story
recounts a day when Martin arrives home from work to a mentally absent wife who
is supposed to be taking care of the children. McCullers grants Martin Meadows the
gift of patience in order to cope with the conflict and his drunk wife. Without the
usage of these details and elements, the ideas presented in the story would not have
been as powerful. A Domestic Dilemma is a storythat is remembered and the purpose
is made clear through McCullers usage of setting, description of characterand
development of conflict. The changing setting helps articulate a message of patience
and perseverance, especially when describing how the setting affects the characters of
Martin and Emily. Both Martin and Emily find themselves going through a similar
adjustment, but they have different ways of coping with the change. Martin has to
relocate his family due to changing circumstances in his job, and he doesn t realize
until after his company transfers him to New York that his wife is suffering. Emily
then turns to alcohol to cope with her discomfort; this leads to issues within the walls
of Martin s home and therefore brings out Martin s attributes of

I.Introduction Living with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is one of the
hardest challenges I have ever faced. Having been diagnosed at the age of seven, it
is the most prevalent thing in my life. ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed
psychological disorder in the United States (Hughes). It is a persistent disorder,
often prevalent through adolescence and adulthood. Most individuals diagnosed
are between the ages of seven and nine, although there have been numerous cases
where individuals have been diagnosed in their later years. Case studies show that
males are four times more likely to be diagnosed/affected with ADHD, and lately,
studies have shown an unexplained increase in the number of diagnoses made in
children. It has been recognized that in the past, people have scoffed at the
diagnosis of ADHD, and even disregarding and bashing the disorder, calling it
things like, a real medical hoax (Citation). These individuals, however, are severely
misguided, seeing as though ADHD is a real disorder, and it affects millions of
people worldwide in present day. There have been neurological studies studying and
showing that ADHD is, in fact, neurologically related, and it is most likely caused by
chemical imbalances in individual s brains (Citation). One greatly debated question
in the world of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is, Can an individual that was
diagnosed with ADHD eventually outgrow it? One side of this argument states that
an individual that has been

Pepe, the nineteen year old protagonist in John Steinbeck s short story Flight ,

changes, mostly mentally and less physically, when he learns about his impending
trip into Monterey from Mama. Later, Pepe drastically changes physically, yet little
mentally, upon his return from Monterey. Lastly during his journey into the
mountains, Pepe changes significantly both physically and mentally. The idea of
manhood plays an important part in this story since its role is central to Pepe s
development. The oldest manin the family, Pepe does not take his position seriously,
but rather he acts childish and maintains a materialistic view of the world. Before his
adventure, Mama gives the first description of Pepe when she calls him so lazy that

Speaking of mental change, Pepe s idea of what a man does and acts noticeably
changes along his adventures. Similar to his original mental attitude, which
focused solely on material possessions, he first believes that a man is defined by
his possessions, his hat, handkerchief, horse and least of all actions. Then, on his
return from Monterey he tells Mama that the man said name to me [Pepe] that I
[Pepe] could not allow (135). Pepe s reasoning is that he is a man now, and so he
must protect his manhood violently when it is insulted. The last change in his
definition of manhood occurs just before Pepe dies, when he physically stands up
and faces his death boldly and bravely. Commonly, people today associate manhood
with violence, strength, and possessions, just like Pepe does. This is not a true
representation of adulthood. As an adult, it is responsibility, sacrifice, and maturity
that differentiate a man from a boy. It is not how a person appears or acts, but rather
their reasoning and drive that define

Your flight 305, it departs in 30 minutes, the old man informed me. I shuffled away
to the waiting area and sat in one of the rough, dry seats. The lack of entertainment
killed me I shut my eyes and listen to the bustling footsteps, and conversations all
around. The smell of late breakfast and old suitcases. All the smells were alien yet
strangely calming. Now boarding flight 305, A womanannounced over the speakers.
I slowly slumped up from my chair checking my phone, Wednesday, April 19. I made
my way to the entrance of the plane where they checked my tickets and let me
through. Soon I found my seat next to a man who looked around 25, he was a
slightly taller man. We talked for a bit and I introduced myself and he introduced
himself, his name was Ethan. I soon got bored of the view from the window. The
warm stuffy air in the plane filled my lungs as I drifted to sleep. I woke up with a
bang, people looked confused and some concerned. The pilots announced they were
having small technical difficulties. Another loud bang came from somewhere on the
left side of the plane. People started asking questions and looking around. The flight
attendants told everyone to remain calm and assured them it was ok. A slight
whistling noise hummed throughout the plane. All the sudden the air rushed out of
the plane, loud sounds of the plane ripping in half were followed by nothing but
blackness.

Two more tallies.
Two more days and my anxiousness has become a rope around my neck, tightening

Fine. It s not like I care about your safety.

What about me? Thorn s hoarse voice echoes from the hall.

45. Comparison Between The Bacchae and The Medea
In Euripides The Bacchae and in the Medea, there are significant binary oppositions
in both plays. Binary opposition is the two opposite terms, such as good versus bad.
Binary opposition is used to present both sides of a contrast (Marvin, 1). In The
Bacchae and the Medea, Euripides used binary opposition to highlight the central
themes. The significant binary oppositions that are used are men versus women,
foreigner versus citizen, and god versus man. The contrast between men versus
women is an important opposition in both plays. The women in the Greek society
have no control of their life; the men are in control (Barlow 159). In The Bacchae
Dionysusunderminded the Greek society point view on women and empowers... Show

The binary opposition of man versus woman starts off strong, but Euripides switches
the roles in both plays. In The Bacchae the woman worship Dionysus. Pentheus
disguises himself as a woman, and goes off to view the women in the mountains,
which is Dionysus plan the whole time. Pentheus dresses up as a woman and
admits to wanting to see the women up at the mountains, and this goes against
Pentheus anger at the beginning of the play (Bacchae 813 814). In the end of the
play the women overpower Pentheus and destroy him to pieces (Bacchae 1125
1140). This is an example of the women being controlling of their own actions and
being stronger than the men. In Medea the stereotype of the man and the woman
switch. Medea is no longer going to sit around and let every man walk all over her;
she states in her speech that she will take revenge on everybody that caused her
misery (Medea 364 409). Barlow emphasizes on the reversal of the stereotype,
stating that Medea, is a woman, moreover, who simply refuses to any longer to
accept at any rate Greek female stereotypes unless to use them with calculation to
gain her own immediate ends (158). Medea reversing the stereotype is the reversal of
man controlling the woman, and this shows that woman as well have the power to
control their own life. Euripides also highlights how

Yellowstone volcano is very active volcanic system which requires much
observation. The geysers, mudd pots, hotsprings and steam vents are all examples
of the heat from molten rock of a volcano. For many years the Yellowstone volcano
could not be located. There is not obvious signs of a volcano, but scientists looked
for other clues. Rhyolite is present in a location that has pinetress and many
mosquitoes can be found due to the lakes that have formed. Rhyolite is a very
violent eruption, due to the high silica content, it flows slowly, like honey, and tends
to pile up and form lava
47. Who Brought The Mind And Body Problem To Light
When considering this question, the essay will discuss what the mind and body
problem is and also who brought the mind and body problem to light. This will be
done by looking at various philosophers beliefs and how the debate of this problem
has changed over time, due to psychologists coming to light in the modern world.
This essay will also cover three main areas of belief, these being dualismwhich states
the mindand the body (brain) work separately from one another, materialism that
states that nothing else exists except from matter so therefore the mind and the body
(brain) work together and aren t separate and finally functionalism which begins to
state that mind and body
(brain) work in a more complex way to the other areas of belief, comparing humans to
operational computers.
The mind and body problem is a conundrum that argues the explanation of how
mental processes work alongside physical states, taking on board that the body is
physical matter and the mind is not states Gunther (1998). The history of the mind
and body debate conceptualised with Plato who brought to light the question of
mental states and physical states. Plato (as cited in Brysbaert and Rastle, 2013)
explains that the mind and body are two separate entities. Plato (as cited in Brysbaert
and Rastle,2013) explains his belief that the soul exists before, and survives the body

Catholic Church and considers traditions of

Each language provides a worldview or the reality of the world for the people who
speak it. It carries the consciousness of people using it and ideologies employed to
explain how lives should be lived. George Orwell s 1984 is a dystopian novel which
explores the world if individualism were nonexistent and wars and violence were the
norm. These characteristics of a totally imperfect world were mainly illustrated
through violence and the regulation of the Newspeaklanguage.

However, this was not the only purpose of the language. It was made to make all

of citizens by the Party.
Winston Smith, the protagonist of the novel, embodies the assumptions of Orwell
about man s nature rational, individual and has a constant desire to define reality.
Orwell concerns himself not only with the failure of communication but also with
tyranny using the language. The novel explores the effect of totalitarianism on
individual human consciousness through the experiences of Winston and his desire
to have the freedom to have the freedom to say that two plus two is equal to four.
Like Marx, Winston thinks of language as a medium of human consciousness. In he
novel, it was shown that he thinks of Newspeak as something that strips humanity of

49. Undocumented Immigrants Should Not Be A Citizen Of
The...
Who deserves to be a citizen of the United States (U.S.)? The founders of The United
States of America believed people who immigrated and spent years building lives in
this country deserved citizenship. They were also keenly aware that making new
immigrants wait for citizenship while denying them the very rights that Americans
had just fought to claim for themselves would be detrimental to our relatively new
and fragile country. Today, it s a question President Barack Obama
and Congress have
been trying to answer. As the President and lawmakers, alike, negotiate the contours
of an immigrationreform bill, they should keep in mind that the granting of legal
status to undocumented immigrants would be a boon for the United Stateseconomy.
Moreover, allowing undocumented immigrants to become U.S. citizens would be
equally beneficial to America. Legal status and citizenship enable undocumented
immigrants to produce and earn significantly more than they do when they are on the
economic sidelines. The resulting productivity and wage gains ripple through the
economy because immigrants are not just workers, but they are also consumers and
taxpayers. Once illegal immigrants are granted citizenship, the newly welcomed
citizens can begin to spend their increased earnings on goods and services that will
stimulate demand in the United States economy, which will, ultimately, help create
jobs and expand the economy as well.
Currently, illegal immigration is a growing concern in the United
50. Renaissance The Biggest Exaggeration Of History Essay
The Renaissance: The Biggest Exaggeration of History The Renaissance is
considered a time where everyone was inspired to create art and learn, but most
people in Europe were totally unaware of the Renaissance (Green). This so called
important history event was exaggerated to great renounds. Usually, key historical
events are known when they happening. People who have experienced historical
events knew that 9/11, the Holocaust, etc. were going to be a major part of history
because the event was life changing. But, in the Renaissancemost people were not
even aware that art and learning had become a huge fad. Also, the art from the
Renaissance is said to be inspired by early Greek and Roman art forms, but the art
was not inspired. It is evident that art was flat out copied from the ancient Greeks and
Romans. Additionally, everyday commoners that made up the majority of the
populations did not have the opportunity to be a part of the Renaissance. The
Renaissance was experienced by only the richest of the rich. When it comes down to

events are very important while it is happening. The Renaissance did not alter
commoner s everyday lives. The importance of art was not a monumental concern.
Historians have embellished what occurred during the Renaissance to make it seem
as if it were a time where people were rejoicing about art and learning, but, truthfully,
citizens did not even notice a slight change of their daily

Hermaphrodites and Society
Individuals are given the gift of life when they are born into this world. Many
agree that everyone is blessed and should not take their lives for granted. To be
truly alive, individuals must be overjoyed and pursue happiness. However, others
would describe their lives as a joke. To be precise, many would be ashamed of who
they are. A very strong example of an ashamed soul would be Calliope, the main
protagonist of Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. In the story, Eugenides tells the tale
of Callie, who is supposedly a monster because she is a hermaphrodite. Being a
hermaphrodite indicates that someone has the sex organs associated with both

tone of the story is serious. Callie acknowledges that her mother was crying in the

statements convey that Callie s parents are also disappointed and ashamed of what
their daughter has become. Callie understands that her mother sheds tears thinking
what she has done to deserve a defected daughter. Callie s parents are so ashamed
and overwhelmed that they took Callie to New York to try and heal in secret
instead of in the open. Callie s parents do not want others to see what has happened
to her out of concern for their daughter s social life as a normal individual. The
thoughts and emotions expressed give readers pity towards Callie and her
condition. Callie muses that she longed to be held, caressed, which was impossible.
Callie wishes to be comforted and surrounded by others that loved and understood
her. Unfortunately, Callie views herself so much like a monster rather than an
individual that she is too far long to be comforted by anyone. Readers infer that

sweeper named Equality 7 2521 that discovers individualism in a collectivist society
where individualism is strongly discouraged. Throughout the novel, Anthem conveys
themes of governmental monopoly and the loss of individual identity. A theme
explored by Anthem is the loss of individual identity and the struggle to find his

55. Pre Lab Report Essay
2. How did the results compare to the pre lab predictions?
The pre lab prediction for the white vinegar solution was that there would be a
decrease in mass and a decrease in the circumference of the egg, therefore, there
would be an increase in volume because the white vinegar solution is hypertonic to
the egg.
The results contradicted the pre lab prediction as evidenced in the results with a 20%
change in the volume of the white vinegar. Instead, there was an inflow of water into
the egg which increased the mass and the circumference. This was an outcome of the
membrane attempting to reach an equilibrium with its internal and external
environment employing osmosis.
The pre lab prediction for the distilled water was that there would be an increase in

increase in volume because the white vinegar solution is hypotonic to the egg.

6.What is special about the cell membrane that allows only certain materials to pass
through?
What is special about the cell membrane is that it is selectively permeable. A
selectively permeable membrane is when certain molecules or ions pass through or
exit the membrane. This is important for the process of osmosis to work. It allows
substances and the cell to reach equilibrium between each other. Without osmosis,
our bodies would be unable to replace water that is lost from processes like
sweating. This would lead to dehydration and cells shriveling up and dying. The
process of osmosis and the selectively permeable membrane help our bodies replenish
water and
