The Effects on Children Who Have Been Raised in a Single Parent Household
Introduction
Single parent house hold s can have many different social, mental, and emotional
effects on the children who are raised in this kind of household. The effects of
children raised by a single parent in the household, whether it is the mother or the
father, are often negative effects. These negative effects include facing Economic
Hardship, lack of support from family, and other emotional and social distress. Stress
is a common factor of these kind of effects. Stress can affect a child and make it
hard for them to succeed in various situations that are crucial to their future. I will be
looking at research and exploring more into the effects of being raised by a single
parent.
For this paper I will be reviewing three scholarly sources on this topic; a research
strategy finding a Website, study: The Effects of a Single Parent Home on a child s
behavior by Marine Kunz published on April 15, 2015, a piece for a magazine titled
Parent Child by Lawrence Kutner, and a scholarly article journal, Negotiating
Relationships in single mother household: Perspectives of Children and Mothers by
Elizabeth Nixon, Shelia Greene and Diane M Hogan published on February of 2012.
Through my research, I will explore more upon what are the effects and the struggles
for growing children; as well as, the different effects of having only a mother or a
father present in the household. Website
3. Marine Debris
Issue Analysis: Marine Debris In an article written by Adam Vaughn for The
Guardian, the issue of marine debris is briefly addressed while a solution to the
issue is analyzed. Marine debris can be commonly known as plastics in the ocean,
and Vaughn s article analyzes biodegradable plastics. While this essay will not
analyze biodegradable plastics, solutions to the issue are an important part of creating
a picture of the issue at hand. Marine debris, or plasticin the ocean, is an issue in
consequence to its negative environmental impact. It is not common for this negative
environmental impact to be argued against. It is more common for this negative
environmental impact to be ignored for the sake of human convenience. In one

More importantly both articles also focus on highlighting consumer awareness and
alternatives to plastics. Specifically, both McGlade and the authors of the academic
article use context to encourage consumers to think about plastic, it s necessity, and
it s consequence. Another specific point is that both articles use examples of how
plastic impacts marine life. The article written by Vaughn uses the example of
jellyfish and how plastics allow them to broaden their range in the ocean and affect
the food chain of other marine life. The academic article uses the example of
marine life ingesting marine debris causing death within different species. Both of
these examples can serve as evidence to marine debris interfering with the
biodiversity of the ocean. As jellyfish disrupt the food chain the cycle of disrupted
food source will continue down the chain as the issue worsens. As marine life ingests
plastics and die off marine food chains are affected even further. To sum up, both
articles use examples that analyze the issue of marine debris, and both articles turn to
the need for change that can solve the problem. Whether the change be technologies
that have real biodegradability or alternate human behaviour all the writers understand
the steps that need to be

6. Machiavelli s The Prince Is Call A Classic
Machiavelli The Prince is call a classic. In today s contemporary society I believe
that some of Machiavelli advice would be relevant. His first piece of advice was
teaching us how having knowledge in the military is an important quality that a
prince can achieve. Second a person should be a true friend and a true enemy.
Thirdly Machiavelli says do not be generous with your money, you ll just have to
tax harder and you ll lose the support of your citizens. Fourthly in order for a prince
to keep his power he must avoid the hatred of his people. Lastly most of our traits
that we learn come from human nature and we should use these traits to the best of
our ability. Machiavelli wrote a manual on how to rule and govern during the
Italian Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance has taken place several years ago, in
today s contemporary society the world is different now. Machiavelli believed it
was better to feared than love. Machiavelli never supported cruelty and violence
although, he did believe that sometimes being cruel and violent would be good for
the republic. His social advice is very useful in today s society. Machiavelli
believed that you should stay true yourself and always keep in mind that
everybody isn t always going to do the right thing. Machiavelli states that how one
lives are so far distant from how one ought to live. (chapter1) In today s society we
do have some people who follow laws and do the right thing and on the other hand
you have others who break

I love whenever President Trump says something about Mexicans in any of his
speeches. Taken from Fear and Latino Stereotypes on the Campaign Trail on Media
Education Foundation, one such amazing quote is from Trump s presidential
announcement speech, in which he states that Mexico is sending people that have
lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems [to] us. They re bringing
drugs, They re bringing crime. They re rapists. I feel like I fall short of these views
Trump has on Mexicans, but also as a Mexican Americanin general. Apparently, the
correct way to view any Mexican man is to go by the fact that we are criminals.

to the general public thinking that there are over 50 million illegal immigrants,
Torregrosa explains that the United States actually has an estimated 10 million
illegal Mexican/Central American immigrants from a 2012 study. The depiction

War in Somalia; was it a win for The USA?
The United States has been challenging on deciding how deep it wants to engage in
controversial global peacemaking conflicts and whether or not U.S. troops lives
should be put in danger for the so called peacekeeping affairs . Events in Somalia
between 1992 and 1994 threw that argument into sharp relief.
Somalia reached its independence in 1960, a country which had been ruled under
Italian government control as a United Nations trust territory, and Somaliland, which
had been a British juridical protectorate. The United States began to initiate close
diplomatic alliance with the newly formed country. In 1969, the Somalian army led a

Mogadishu in January 1991. No powerful central government replaced the
overthrown administration, and the United States embassy terminated its operation in
Somalia that same year, although the two countries kept diplomatic relations. The
country fell into chaos, and a humanitarian crisis was clearly at sight.
Operation Provide Comfort commencing in August 1992, led by the U.S. was
launched to provide humanitarian supports to the suffering people of Somalia.
Heavy gunfights among the warlords delayed the delivery of aid to those in need,
so the United Nations called for strict action. In December 1992, Operation Restore

troops in Somalia soil to assist with famine relief as part of the United Nations; the

11. The Road Not Taken Essay
The Road Not Taken , written by Robert Frost, is an intriguing poem in which the
speaker finds himself caught in a fork in the road upon needing to choose between
two roads. When comparing the two paths, the speaker decides on taking the road
that is less traveled by and subsequently voices why he chose that road and the
outcome. Robert Frost is an American poet and author. He was born on March 26,
1874, in San Francisco, and is well known for writing poems, The Road Not Taken

He conveys his uncertainty of which path he should take, and compares the two
roads in order to convince himself which one he should take. Up until this point, his
tone is neither optimistic nor pessimistic and does not imply whether his choice was
a good one or a bad one. However, reading the last stanza, you understand that the
speaker s tone has changed to a more satisfied one. He is pleased with the road he
took, as it has made all the difference. From a different perspective, upon reading
the fourth stanza, you can understand that the speaker has changed to a morose,
and possibly regretful tone, and in the first line, the speaker states that he shall be
telling this with a sigh. This shows that the speaker is convinced he regrets his
choice. At the start of the poem when the speaker mentions yellow wood , the color
yellow sets you into a warm, kind mood. Then, throughout the first two stanzas the
speaker is trying to pick which road to take. This makes the readers want to know
which path he is taking and why. This puts the readers in a mood of anticipatory, or

It would be early on Saturday morning in which I roll out of bed to prepare for my
internship at Dr. Henkel s place, Horsham Dental Elements. Dr. Henkel acquired the
dental center in 1990 after moving the suburbs in Horsham. Many patients would
come to this dental clinic, sitting in the waiting lounge as they wait for their name to
be announced. Each patient would be directed to the assigned room from the dental
specialist (Dr. Henkel Interview).
During the procedures for dental hygiene the dental hygienist would often comment
on the patient and their overall health of their teeth. Gums look much less swollen. I
barely see any plaque? Other times they remark, Are you flossing more regularly?
Once the polishing and cleaning was complete the dental hygienist would then
mention Wait here, he will be here in just a moment.
Who was coming? It was the inspector, Dr. Henkel. The man was as round as a
globe. He would dress in his usual green collared shirt, as he waddled down the
hallway with his thudding gait. Immediately, once entering the room, he would greet
his patients with his warm welcoming smile. In addition, he would sit in his swivel

Darcy s character illustrates themes of both pride and prejudice. Mr. Darcy takes

prideful ways. During the first ball of the novel, he refuses to dance with any of
the women and acts coldly and withdrawn towards anyone who attempts to talk

pride makes him extremely conceited, driving his thirst for the accumulation of
wealth and social affluence. Darcy also exhibits prejudicial behavior, inflicting
emotional pain on Elizabeth by expressing negative opinions of her physical
attributes and forming opinions about others solely based on their social
standings. Because of this, he looks down on the Bennet family, deeming them
inferior and lower class country folk. This becomes apparent during his proposal
to Elizabeth when he states that he should not love her, because of her
background. This type of prejudice is a mixture of the dislike of certain groups of
people and forming adverse judgements before the acquisition of insight into a
person s character. Like Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy also eventually overcomes both his
pride and his prejudice as he falls in love with

During the last decade, the automotive industry and many environmental agencies,

Friends of the Earth, an international environmental activist organization that uses

For example, according to the EPA, the nitrous oxide released froman SUV traps 270
times more heat per molecule in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide(1). When nitrous
oxide increases in the atmosphere, more heat is trapped in the atmosphere and
unnecessarily contributes to the earth s natural greenhouse effect.
While standards have been developed to curb these emissions since 1970, it wasn t
until 1993 that standards were placed on evaporative emissions for light duty trucks
as well as tailpipe emissions. Evaporative emissions were suspected as being equally
responsible for contributing to the increased amount of hydrocarbons and oxides of
nitrogen in the atmosphere. According to an article in Atmospheric Environment:
Evaporative emissions are divided into five types: Diurnal, which are the emissions
when the vehicle is at rest which occur due to ambient temperature changes over a
typical 24 h period; Hot soak, which is driven by residual engine heat once a
warmed up engine is parked and the engine is shut off; Running loss, which occur
when the vehicle is being driven; Resting loss, which is the constant at rest

resulting from refueling(ВІ).
Better technology has been developed to test levels of evaporative emissions since
1993. Now the test uses a method known as the

High school is commonly referred to as hell by it s residents. The reason why is
that the social setting is complex and anything told, whether it being the truth or
not, is spread around like a wildfire on dry grass. Easy A is a comedic movie about
a seventeen year old girl named Olive Pendergast, who is in high school. Olive lies
to her best friend about losing her virginity and the rumour spreads around the
school. Soon after she also lies about having sex with guys and gets paid to do so
causing others to assume she is a prostitute. In anger, she marks her clothes with
the letter A meaning adultery. She lies for the sake of others comfort throughout
the film until finally, someone tries to make her lies a reality. In the end, she tells
everyone the truth and finally understands to keep her sex life away from her
social life. Through the movie, Easy A, we will be looking through the character,
Olive Penderghast, and her relationships with adults, what she is capable of, and
her self regulation. In the movie, Easy A, there are two types of adults who are
connected to Olive in either a positive manner or a negative one.. The first and
better type of adult dealt with in this film is a selfless adult who is shown through
the parents of Olive Pendergast. The second type of adult shown is a selfish adult,
who is portrayed ironically by the guidance counselor of Olive, Mrs. Griffith.

18. War, Fruits Vs. Vegetables
We are at war, fruits vs. vegetables. We have been fighting for centuries now, blood
and gore could be smelled anywhere you go, countless bodies and corpses. The
Vegetables were fighting for equal rights, they didn t want to be their servants

Fruits. My grandfather fought on V Day, he was a brave avocado soldier the Vegetable
Army ever had. The was the day everything was going to change for the vegetables
but it didn t change as much as my father thought it would. Plus the reason we were
fighting for is stupid.
Today is September 14, 2013. I didn t understand why vegetables and fruits were in
constant fighting. Vegetables say that they re healthier for the Creator, but Fruits
say they re sweeter for the Creator. Well long story short, the Creator doesn t know
we are talking and living food. We call him the creator because he created the
Fruits and Vegetables. Vegetables are the poorest part of our society, our society is
what our creator calls Farm or Greenhouse . Anyways, I am part of the Vegetables.
The Fruits don t respect us and think less of us, they think they are better than us
because the creator always picks them first for the Stage . Nobody really knows
what happens in the Stage , no one has come back from the Stage to tell the story.
We just consider it as an honor to be selected for the Stage, but seems were
vegetables we are almost never picked. The Fruits still let us

Advocating for Meriwether Lewis as the Face of the $10 Bill Introduction I
believe that the Meriwether Lewis is one of the most qualified candidates for
being on the $10 bill. Meriwether Lewis is most widely known for his part in
leading the Corps of Discovery on their expedition across the land of the recently
acquisitioned Louisiana Purchase. The expedition took place between May of
1804 to September of 1806 and spanned from St. Louis, Missouri to Fort Clatsop in
present day Oregon. During this period Lewis, the Corps, and his former
commanding officer and friend William Clark set out to observe and map the
Western lands. Along the way, Lewis and his companions discovered many new
species of wildlife and plants. Many of these species are represented by sketches in
the logs both Lewis and Clark kept. After returning from their expedition, Lewis
became the governor of the Louisiana territory and was given a generous slice of
land in the new region. In 1809, he attempted suicide while on the road to
Washington D.C. While Lewis was unsuccessful in his attempts to kill himself, he
later succeeded in shooting himself at an Inn. He eventually succumbed and was
buried just outside the Inn. A memorial now lies where his body was laid to rest.
Throughout the next sections, I will provide a more detailed description of Lewis s
life and exploits, along with his lasting significance both at the time and at present
day. Early Life Meriwether Lewis was born in Ivy, Virginia during the

because of some poor decision making. The new marriage put a strain on my
relationship with my mother. I had to learn to adapt to having a father figure

After being kicked out and living with my aunt for a couple of weeks, I came back

Chapter 2 explains in detail the factors that could lead a person to do one of the
most unbelievable things a person could do: to admit guilt for a crime that he/she

criminals confess, however, the techniques used by them, such as bluff, excessively

25. Is Superman A Hero
A hero or heroism can always be defined vibrantly and always related to helpful and
beneficial deeds. Throughout the history, we had known numerous historical and
fictional heroes that inspired us in acting good things for the sake of others. One of
the most famous fictional heroes of all times was Superman. He was known for his
heroic acts to save the universe particularly the Earth and America. Superman is the
great American hero[1]. Although Superman is just among the known American
heroes, he is indeed the most popular one especially for kids and kids alike. We are
a nation rich with legendary figures [1]. But since Superman is just a hero given
life from the vast imagination of its author, we can t consider him as a real hero
living among us. We can only compare some of his characteristics in order to identify
the unknown heroes in this world. He is the male, heroic match for the... Show more

Superman doesn t have to be seen as an angel to be appreciated, but in the absence
of a tradition of national religious iconography, he can serve as a safe, nonsectarian
focus for essentially religious sentiments, particularly among the young [1].
Irregardless of religion, a real life hero can be born even from countries where
pagan beliefs are commonly practice. Being a hero has nothing to do with one s
religion, although religion can make us more aware with the real meaning of
sacrifice. Churches also consider their own heroes; those people who gave their life
for the sake of proclaiming the gospel and their religion. Superman is like nothing
so much as an American boy s fantasy of a messiah [1]. Heroic deeds can be related
or not to religion. He protects the weak and defends truth and justice and all the other
moral virtues inherent in the Jude Christian tradition, remaining ever vigilant and
ever chaste

in Charleston, South Carolina to Charles Frazier Just Jr. and Mary Matthews Just,
who gave birth to a stillborn child and both a boy and a girl before Just was born,
making Just the youngest of three children. Sadly, however, both of his older

specific areas of science that would include the role of environmental factors in

concentrated sea water, ultraviolet irradiation, temperature, hydration or dehydration
on embryo development. He observed the wave of negativity that sweeps over the
egg cell at the onset of fertilization envelope separation, preventing fertilization by
more than one spermatozoon and correctly reasoned that it was this wave, not the

27. The Consequences Of Youth Violence In High School
Youth Violence
One in twelve teenagers in High school are harmed or threatened with a weapon
each year (Teen violence statistics). Youth Violence may not seem like a big
problem, but we are from a small town where most get along. Your small town of
David city doesn t catch the big action like larger cities do. Schools within a bigger
city see a fight on a normal basis, that s normal to them, not realizing that shouldn t be
an everyday thing. The bullying and fighting in them schools is ignored because there
are so many students attending that view the violence as a minor thing.
Youth violence can come in many forms such as bullying, fighting, or even worse
robbery, or assault. Youth violence can be a very big problem but people are not
realizing how big it really is. Young adults can be a victim, an offender, or a
witness. The victim can be harmed in many ways, they could be physically harmed
or mentally. The victim could even lose their life, all because someone wanted to
hurt them. The victim could take their own life because they were repeatedly harmed
physically or mentally. There are so many ways youth violence can take place, youth
violence has gone unseen for too long
People do not realize how far a child that is being bullied will go to seek revenge on
the bully. In 1999 a shooting happened at Columbine High School, two students
walked in to the school with weapons they killed and injured many people before
they took their own lives. This happened because those two kids were bullied and
they felt that they should get revenge (Biscontini 14 15). This is an example of how
big of a deal youth violence is, and how far a child who is bullied will take it.
Youth violence goes back to the 1980s the United States noticed that the levels of
violence among the youth had risen a lot. Homicide is one of the leading causes
of death for people aged ten to twenty four. Youth violence all starts back to when the
child was young. A child is a bully once was a bully. When a kid is physically or
mentally bullied they can become unstable and seek revenge. They will go as far as
killing people or injuring them badly. If everyone was to help stop violence among
the young. Less and less kids will be involved in school
28. Psychodynamic Approach Case Studies
There are useful observations based on understanding of Adaptive Leadership,
Psychodynamic Approach, and Team Leadership as they apply to the leadership of
Friendship Baptist Church. The theoretical study of the application of these theories
offer some informative data sets.
Applying Adaptive Leadership to the Case Study
Adaptive learning involves the awareness of the organization dynamic and the
member needs as well. The leadership dynamic involves the assessment of needs and
the best ways to meet those needs within organization. Adaptive Leadership provides
the understanding, skills, and support that we need to do two things well: distinguish
what s essential from what s expendable and innovate in ways that dovetail with those
essentials. In the case of Friendship Baptist Church, the leadership of the organization
has become stagnant and ineffective. There has never been an in depth assessment of
the needs of the church and the ways leadership might meet them. The church has

The psychodynamic approach places emphasis on leaders obtaining insight into their
personality characteristics and understanding the response of subordinates, based on
their personalities. Leaders should also encourage work group members to gain
insight into their own personalities so that they could understand their reactions to
the leader and each other. Important concepts in psychodynamic approach to
leadership include e.g. the family of origin, individuation, dependence and
independence, regression and the shadow self. These concepts come from
psychoanalysis and psychiatry and can sometimes be abstruse and not easily
understood. That is the reason that there has been attempts to make psychodynamic
theory more

prices for synthetic fabrics . Sheep meat and milk are the earliest staple proteins

don t pay much attention to the teacher s lesson and are disturbed by all the

36. Solar Cell Advantages And Disadvantages
F.Hybrid solar cells
Hybrid solar cells are the combination of two different compunds, where amorphous
silicon cells combine with nano crystalline cells or with materials such as
CIGS.These form the Hetrostructure between amorphous Si:H layer and C:Si wafer.
Its efficiency is found to be around 21%.
G.PREFERENCE OF CRYSTALLINE OVER AMORPHOUS
Crystalline is more preferred since amorphous silicon cells suffers from the various
inherent defects in the lattice. The doping of amorphous Si:H which increases the
concentration which further causes reduce in life of the cells. Therefore, the stability
of crystalline silicon is more as compared to amorphous silicon cells. If the
amorphous silicon cells are projected in continuous light then they undergo light
dependent degradation due to which its efficiency reduces. On the commercial basis
its efficiency is found to be 10%.

The next few years would go well for Schindler and his factory for they turned a

that his factory became known as a haven throughout the Jewish community.
However, things began to go sour for Schindler, when the Germans ordered the

affectionate toward his Jewish workers that he refused to hire Poles, and instead

It does not appear that the failures related to the current issues around heroin abuse

39. The Price Of The Penny
The Penny is essentially a vital part of our money system. There has been many
speculation about whether or not the United States should abolish the penny from
being minted any longer. Although the penny has been a part of the American
culture since 1787, it has such a small value, it will always be a part of American
history. So as the years go on we should realize that the penny is everything to the
United States. The penny should not be eliminated from the money system due to the
fact that it is a part of the American culture and has earned its respect over the years.
In America, there is still a debate if the penny should be eliminated. If it was to be
eliminated it would still be used, but in a minimal way. In Canada, the Canadian
penny was eliminated due to cost, time, and the country believed it was a waste of
money, inflation reduced its purchasing power by 95% since it was first minted
domestically in 1908: back then the cent could buy goods of the cost of $0.20, today
in other words. (The Economist). Once a small coin can no longer be used to buy
individual items at that price, but it is only used to make change, it becomes more
trouble than it is worth. Canadian pennies cost 1.6 Canadian cents to manufacture,
and the government expected to save $11 million a year by eliminating them (The
Economist). But that sum equivalent to 0.0006% of GDP is small change. Canadians
feel that eliminating pennies is that their feeble purchasing power means dealing with
coins,
40. Nietzsche and Edwards Essay
Friedrich Nietzsche unquestionably serves as a model for the single best pundit of
religion. At the flip side of this range, Jonathan Edwards develops as his archrival
regarding religious talk. Nietzsche contends that Christianity s stance to all that is
exotic is that grounded in danger, out to manageable all that rests on nature, or is
characteristic, much the same as Nietzsche s position on the planet and his
perspectives. Considering this current, Edwards perspectives on Christianity ought to
be seen in setting focused at the individuals who concur with his thought, that G d is
incredible and past the limit of human reason.
Edwards reaffirms for his group of onlookers G d s Spiritual and Divine Light. This
light conferred to the spirit by G d, is of an alternate nature from any that is
acquired by common means. Edwards spells out that his sermon was not planned to
address the men who accept singularly in life s common condition and the
annoyance of G d. Otherworldly light is likewise something that can t be seen by
eye, just by due fear of those things that are taught in the expressions of G d. It is at
this crossroads that Nietzsche wholeheartedly concurs, confirming that the Kingdom
of Heaven is a state of the heart and is not something that radiates from death or
comes upon the earth .
Be that as it may, Nietzsche exposes Edward s concept of sin, asserting it as an
invention used to conjure fear in the devotees of Christianity and to mean decision
force to

course, how do we know that there is that thing called air out there if we do not feel
its presence? What Durkheim was interested to show, indeed, was that those
elements of reality that he came to call social facts(2) were out there, regardless of
whether the individuals felt their presence or not. Actually, the individuals are almost
never aware of the compelling presence of those social facts, which they have a
tendency to take for granted. Sometimes, however, social facts appear unmistakably

The object of Weber s study of history has been the tracing of the process of
rationalization of human life. His model of social change entails a multidimensional
triumph of reason, which slowly came to pervade every area of social life in the
Occident and which has led to the disenchantment of the World, the fall from grace of
magic, tradition, charisma, and affectivity in the legitimation of authority and
wisdom. Social change, thus, was at the core of the foundation of sociology as a
discipline. The preoccupation with social change, moreover, prompted the early
sociologists to conceive of developmental schemes to account for the transformation
of society. We should bear in mind that the impressive advances of biology during the
19th Century, coupled with the impact of Charles Darwin s theory of evolution, must
have paved the way for the conception of society as an entity that goes through a
succession of developmental stages. For a while, the developmental approach to the
study of social change was circumscribed to the analysis of the Western European
nations in which sociology was founded namely, Germany, France, and England.
Later on, however, development studies also came to mean the contrasting analyses of
