This document outlines a 5-day lesson plan for a 10th grade honors English class on the history of the English language. On day 1, students will learn the basics of the origins of English and introduce themselves. On day 2, they will view and comment on a video of the Lord's Prayer in Old English and participate in a group project on early and late Old English. Day 3 involves discussing a podcast, excerpt from Canterbury Tales, and a web quest on Middle English. Day 4 focuses on the Great Vowel Shift, Modern English, Shakespeare, and recent dictionary additions. Finally, on day 5 students will demonstrate their knowledge through an art bot project using provided materials and technologies. Participation is required and students will be

Tenth grade honors English students will be able to define and categorize 90% of the main
events of English language history as covered in the class when asked to do an art bot project in
class at the end of the week.
3. State Objectives
Students are to be able to divide the history of the English language into four specific parts, old,
middle, early modern, and modern English.
They are to also know contributions made by various events, authors, individuals, documents,
and technology. All of which have impacted the way we speak.
They are to also utilize all forms of technology which have been taught in the instructor’s CI 350
class over the past semester.
By the end of the week, students are to have a 90% understanding of the material that has been
covered.
4. State Objectives cont.
Day1. Students will be demonstrate the ability to explain a brief history of the
English language and discuss the basics of these origins with the instructors
and fellow classmates as determined by a short quiz which they will be
assigned after viewing the video. Students will also know who is in their class
y introducing themselves to one another and the instructor.
Day 2. Students are to view a video of the Lord’s Prayer in Old English and
comment on it as it will be shared to the class Facebook and twitter pages.
Students will demonstrate the ability to tell the origins of Old English as
demonstrated in a group project in which they will be divided into two groups
of 10, one doing the early half of old English, the other the later half. For
homework they will comment and share their thoughts on a podcast shared
on the class Facebook and twitter pages.
Day 3. Students will discuss the podcast from last night and upon listening to
an excerpt from “The Canterbury Tales,” are to complete a web quest in Zunal
for the rest of the class. Upon the completion of it, they will demonstrate
knowledge of the Middle English period as shown in an essay that is to be
completed in conjunction with the assignment. For home work, they are to
do another web quest which will be handed out in the form of a word
document in which they are to define words and phrases coined by William
Shakespeare.
Day 4. Students are to define with clarity what the great vowel shift was,
when Modern English came about, the contributions of William Shakespeare,
and why the English language is still evolving and define a few words which
have been added to the dictionary in the past few years.
Day 5. Students are to demonstrate the knowledge they have obtained over
the past four class sessions and create an art bot project with the sue of the
hummingbird, arts and crafts, and a wikispaces and weebly for reference as
well as effectively use Gimp to create an image which will be plastered onto
the robot.

6. Utilize Media and Materials
Students will use the provided media and materials to complete the tasks for each day.
They are encouraged to work with one another and communicate with each other in and out of
class to grasp the material and gain information.
7. Require Learner Participation
Participation will count as ten percent of each students daily grade.
Failure to participate in the assignments will result in failure for the day.
All students must participate in assignments to pass.
8. Evaluate and Revise
All students will be evaluated daily based on the criteria set forth by the instructor.
Any students who have trouble grasping the material, I will address personally and see if they
should drop the class or are just having a hard time for whatever reason.
