Nulook Bounce n Party located in Winterville, NC. The previous two weeks
consisted of me working and completing basic employee duties and procedures. I

John Kennedy was one of the most skillful orators among all the presidents of
United States of America. His speeches were always persuasive, motivating and
inspiring. One of his best speeches is Inaugural Address , which he addressed to

I think Gladwell s purpose for writing The Trouble with Geniuses, is to open our
minds to a topic that a lot of us have a major misconception about. Gladwell
presents his ideas with great examples throughout chapters 3 and 4 of the outliers.
His topic is about success and how it is obtained. He talks about a scientist by the
name of Turmin who did an experiment and selected a group of geniuses and watched
their progress and downfalls throughout their lives.
Turmin did not get the results he expected he thought they would be exceptionally
successful in winning the Nobel prize or coming up with major inventions. But that
was not the case, yes some of them did well but then again some of them did not. So
Gladwell brings this experiment to show us that our idea about the connection
between geniuses and success is incorrect, that they are not automatically going to be
successful because there are other factors that either help or prevent geniuses from
being successful.
In my opinion, Gladwell s target audience is all genders from the age group of teens
up till young adults. This book and these chapters specifically are great for those who
just about embrace the world. The book can give them guidance and encouragement
about being successful and how you have to work at things, that being a genius is not
enough and there are some things that are not genetic and you have to acquire them.

Comparison...
Ernest J. Gaines, the author of A Lesson Before Dying, and Harper Lee, the author
of To Kill A Mockingbird, seem to be identical in their literary work. Both novels
display racism and injustice poisons society because the innocent are destroyed
physically and mentally by the two cruelties. Gaines portrays a story of a young
coloured male, Jefferson, who seeks to become a man full of dignity before he dies
from electrocution. Lee shares a story of a young white woman who accuses a young
coloured male, Tom Robinson, of rape; Tom s lawyer, Atticus Finch, strongly defends
him, but later Tom dies innocent. Throughout both novels, A Lesson Before Dying
and To Kill A Mockingbird
, share the theme of racismand injustice. This is evident
through the similarities of characters, specifically Jefferson and Tom Robinson. Also,
the theme is found within person against society conflicts in both novels. And lastly,
the setting of the two books helps determine the theme of racism and injustice.
Firstly, Jefferson and Tom both suffer from prejudice. In A Lesson Before Dying,
the court wrongfully accuses Jefferson of stealing and murdering a white man.
And in To Kill A Mockingbird, the jury unfairly charges Tom for raping a white
woman. The legal system discriminates both innocent men because the legal
system finds the men guilty based on their poor judgments of the men s races. For
instance, Jefferson s defense argues, ... I ask you [the jury], I implore, look
carefully do you see a man sitting here? Look at the shape of this skull, this face as
flat as the palm of my hand look deeply into those eyes. Do you see a modicum of
intelligence? Do you see anyone here who could plan a murder, a robbery... can
plan anything? (Gaines 7). Despite Jefferson s humiliation from his defense, it is
apparent that he is innocent because he has no courage to commit a crime such as
the ones he is charged with. However, the jury is of twelve white men (Gaines 8)
and during the 1940s, the white society feels no sympathy to the coloured society.
Jefferson experiences unfairness from the court because he is a coloured man that

Dehumanization is thought to be done by bad men that appear in movies and in the
distant past. It seems as a figment of imagination that nobody must face anymore
because people are so obviously above being slowly changed into anything less than
human. Little do they know, that this little dream that seems so far is, in fact, right
on their doorsteps and has dug its way into their most intimate part of their lives, their
childhood. Education, a simple way to spend 17 years, is a machine that cranks out
people that have been so dehumanized that they don t even realize it happened. While
there are various aspects that help create the dehumanization, the largest tool is
grades. Placing numbers upon young children to assign them value, to have them
begin to assign their self value to them, to use them to show the amount of success,
all strip people of the human factor of curiosity. Why question when it won t be on
the test, quiz, exam, etc. is what all students quickly learn to not worry about as they
only need the high marks to be happy. Little do they know; a pass fail system could
show them how question to the world and how to genuinely learn. It would rely not
on the students memorizing facts, but truly understanding that while they ll never
understand the ever changing reality of their world, they can keep learning in their
attempt to.
Education was not made to teach children how to learn, no it was made to have the
students memorize facts and recite them back at a later date. This type of education
could be called narrative education . There is no conversation between the student
and teacher rather, it involves a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening
objects (the students) (240). The teacher just talks of the information they deem
important and the students don t question it. Instead, they quietly listen while
frantically trying to write down all they need in order to understand. However, by
making learning a flat experience words are emptied of their concreteness and
become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity (240). They lose their meaning
because there is no point to understanding them, when comprehension isn t needed to
