Peekay s Camouflage In The Great Gatsby
Peekay s camouflage is a symbol of growth that diminishes as he begins to grow and accept
himself. When he starts at the boarding school, Peekay s camouflage grows very extreme. He is
learning that the more he stands out, the more harm will come to him. After he returns to the
school, Peekay realizes he has forgotten an essential rule to surviving. The holidays had blunted
my sense of survival: adapt, blend, become part of the landscape, develop a camouflage, be a
rock or a leaf or a stick insect, try in every way to be an Afrikaner (Courtenay 23). This quote puts
the reader in Peekay s shoes and helps them realize how much he yearns to be like the other boys.
During his time at boarding school, things may be looking pretty poor for Peekay,

Life of Peru s Indigenous People Essay
Throughout the history of Latin American countries, like Peru there has been dramatic change in
the overall way of life. These changes are largely due to external influences on the international
level such as the Spanish conquest of Andean territories. However no matter whether the process of
change was political, economic, social or cultural, they all have similarities and are interconnected.
These different types of change are closely intertwined and influence one another while linking the
local level of life with foreign (on an (inter)national level) events and forces. Also along with these
changes, some aspects of indigenous life remain stable and continue throughout these external
influences. In this essay I will discuss continuity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result the Peruvian indigenous people set up multiple ecological zones along these mountain
sides (slopes) to increase the efficiency of their production. This technique known as verticality let
the people diversify their subsistence strategies and become more self sufficing. This division of
production zones were setup into four distinct production zones. Some of these zones were used
for animal domestication and tuber production while others were used for the production of certain
crops (maize, potatoes, tropical fruits, coca ) that grew best at their zones climatic conditions.
These indigenous people would then travel to different zones throughout the day to manage and
exploit these lands. However the distances between these four zones were extreme in some
measures. Therefore in order to increase traveling efficiency, these people would settle in the
middle of these ecological zones to give each production division adequate attention. Another
important feature of the Incan indigenous agricultural system was water. In order to conserve
water and structure it s usage most efficiently, the people followed the value of equity. They saw
water as a form of common property that belongs to everyone. As a result they handled water
management by abiding to the two specific principles of uniformity and proportionality. The people
controlled and developed the land so that everyone received water with the same frequency.
Therefore if everyone irrigated their

Ambiguity In The Turn Of The Screw
Within The Turn of the Screw, Henry James uses clothing as a means of class division. He pairs
the outward appearance with other aspects such as colors and diction to give a distinctive air to the
characters within the novel. Through the description of clothing or the lack thereof, James is able
to convey specific things about the characters through their degree of conformity to societal rules.
Throughout history, fashion has been the biggest indicator of social and economic status. While
the sumptuary laws of the Elizabethan era that determined the color and style people of
different ranks were allowed to wear ended around 200 years prior to the time the novel was
written, society has always imparted a strict set of rules for its given era on propriety. There s
always an emphasis on dress no matter what age, the rules just fluctuate from era to era. Therefore,
given societies set rules that it upheld, it was frowned upon for someone of a different ... Show more

As well as the use and emphasis of color pertaining to Miss Jessel and for instance Flora with her
hair of gold and frock of blue, (James 32). The fact that James does not specify what shade of
blue she s wearing lends to the ambiguity of her character. Blue is a juxtaposing shade, which
represents a multitude of things such as calmness or depression. Lighter shades of blue are
usually associated with the lower class servants since the plant used to dye was commonly found.
Art in the middle ages the Virgin Mary was almost always depicted in a darker navy blue
symbolizing innocence and trustworthiness. This color is adopted today by militaries and police to
convey a sense of trust. Yet, blue is a color not found a lot in nature, suggesting a deceptive quality
to Flora that is furthered by her actions within the

The movie hurt locker written by Mark Boal and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It displays the
war in middle east vividly. The story began when the bomb tech team leader Sergeant Thompson

Bachelor Of Kinesiology Program Analysis
Good morning members of the University of Toronto admissions board. I would just like to
begin by thanking you all for allowing me to stand here in front of you today as you listen to my
application for a spot in your Bachelor of Kinesiology Program. After a long pursuit of trying to
find the right program, I came across yours and once I read the program description I knew right
away that this was the program for me. Not only do I think that this program is the perfect fit for
me, I also believe that I am the most deserving candidate. But why you may ask? What separates
me from the rest? Three reasons why I would make a deserving candidate for your Bachelor of
Kinesiology Program include the following: I possess a superlative work ethic, I have a passion to
learn about the human body, along with my remarkable interpersonal skills.

From an early age I have been fascinated by the workings of life. The human body is a
remarkable machine, the way bones break, muscles tear, and how when injuries like that happen
your body instantly starts to repair itself. My passion for the human body continues to grow
each day, and when I find out new information on it I can t help but become infatuated. For
instance, I remember my mom used to get these really bad leg cramps, she explained it as a
sharp, excruciating pain that made her unable to even stand, and I would always help her by
massaging the area. It got to the point where every time she got a cramp she would call out for
me to help her because I always made the pain go away. Our body is something that we have with
us forever and to me, learning about our body s physiological and biomechanical responses to
exercise is something that intrigues me. Your Kinesiology program focuses a lot on these topics,
and I think that this course would be extremely beneficial to

Essay On Ed s Tall Tales
Humankind fought numerous wars in the twentieth century. In the United States, none affected the
everyday lives of those left at home to the extent that the Second World War did. The government
rationed essential war material, such as rubber, gasoline, and numerous food items. Teens, disabled,
middle aged, and elderly, male and female, kept farms productive and factories turning out
munitions at an unprecedented level. Although people endured hardships, they also found
opportunities for adventure and financial gain. For countless people, the war changed the direction
of their lives.1 Their stories are diverse. Ed s Tall Tales
In the 1960s, during my junior high and high school years, I frequently earned money by
working for our next door neighbors, Ed and Alice Larson. In the winter, I shoveled the snow
from their sidewalks and occasionally, when the snow accumulated from multiple storms, I
cleared the snow off their roof. In the summer, I received seventy five cents each time I mowed
their grass. Since Ed provided both the lawn mower and fuel, I discounted my usual one dollar
charge for a lawn of their size.
After moving out of my childhood home, I seldom interacted with Ed and Alice. However, while
visiting my parents in the mid 1970s, Ed and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

rules and format. Explore other articles and links in this section to learn more about APA format.
Uniform style helps us scan articles quickly for key points and findings. Rules of style in scientific
writing encourage full disclosure of essential information and allow us to dispense with minor
distractions.
Style helps us: * express the key elements of quantitative results, * choose the graphic form that
will best suit our analyses, * report critical details of our research protocol, and * Describe
individuals with accuracy and respect.
When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation
for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. Those elements are codified in the rules we
follow for clear communication, allowing us to focus our intellectual energy on the substance of
our research (Foreword, Public Manual of American Psychological Association 6th ed., p. xiii).
An author writing for a publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid
inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three
different manuscripts might use sub test, subtest, and Subtest in one issue of a journal or book.

Essay on Important Elements Of A Campaign Strategy
Important Elements of a Campaign Strategy
Campaigning for any type of elected office requires a sharp eye for detail in regard to what
voters are looking for in a candidate. A campaign strategy should be comprehensive in its efforts
to reach as many voters as possible. Yet, without a solid base of ideas from which to expand
upon, the message being conveyed can easily be lost or taken out of context. In order for a
campaign manager to avoid this blunder from occurring and maximize the candidate s chances of
victory, he or she must pay attention to a few basic campaigning elements before attempting to
stretch the campaign to its maximum visibility. First, the campaign manager must identify the

Still, it is vital for a candidate at any level to develop a grasp of the different groups that will
decide his or her fate. As stated earlier, this dimension of the campaign process is primarily dealt
with before the campaign commences. Once completed, the popular definition of the word
campaign takes form.
Conveying a message to the voters in the form of speeches, advertisement, and public appearances
is the primary objective of a political campaign. This lets the public know what any given
candidate can offer them if elected to office. The simplest manner in which to convey whatever
message is to incorporate it into a campaign theme. quot;It is a serious mistake to assume that
voters are paying close attention to your election, or any election quot; (Shea 1996,
148). The fact is that most voters do not go out of their way to make the right voting choice. All
a voter wants is a quick and simple reason to vote for a candidate. If every voter researched the
possible candidates before each election, campaigning would be obsolete. The political campaign
serves as a vehicle to inform voters. The best and most effective way for a candidate to do this is
with a campaign theme. A campaign theme should be general in nature.
It should be an idea that a large group can grab hold of. If the theme selected is too precise, it
portrays the candidate as narrow minded. Simply put, the broader a theme is, the more voters it
attracts (Shea 1996,

Aladdin a Disney Fairytale
A long, long time ago, in the year of 1992, a very famous Disney Fairytale hit the big screen.
Aladdin is about a young orphan on a fascinating journey to becoming a heroic man. The
majority of people are unaware of the qualifications of a real hero. Many people think the only
way to achieve heroism is by dying for something or someone you love. There are heroes
everywhere you look, Disney movies, fairytales, cartoons, books etc. A hero doesn t have to
possess unusual superpowers like, immortality, time traveling, invisibility, mind control or
superhuman strength. In fact, some super heroes possess nothing more than, love, generosity,
kindness, cheer and trust. Sometimes all you need to be a hero is abandonment at birth, a friend
and a will to survive. This is exactly why I chose the Disney character of Aladdin. This charming
story, made famous by Disney takes place in the Middle East. The trials and tribulations of Aladdin
include moments of love, adventure, trickery, and deceit. Aladdin embarks in this journey
unintentionally but proves to have endured a comprehensive maturation of character while
achieving valuable insight about who is truly is and what he stands for by the time he completes his
adventure. When following the journey of a hero you will usually find something on the lines of an
unusual birth, or something unique about the hero s childhood. Aladdin was born to his father,
Cassim and his mother, who is unnamed in the film. Cassim left Aladdin and his mother

eight short years I ago I was asked if I was ready for the experience of a lifetime, by my parents. I
said yes. It was only the summer before fifth grade that I went on a journey which was attending
overnight camp at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Before I arrived, I was happy as can be. But,
when I arrived at the most meaningful place in the world, 2618 Upper Woods Road, Lakewood

Surprisingly, out of the four weeks of being a wreck I ended up loving Ramah, and made the

Because of this sacrifice he sees his violin as his main identity; he is a violinist, and he must

the violin leaves him bereft of any time or desire to spend time with his wife and children, unless
it involves the violin, which ultimately causes them to reject him too. When Tian s own dream

but he especially hated his own. (55); this immense self hatred, and lack of an identity outside of
the violin, causes him to viciously force Ruth to become a violinist. Despite her lack of interest
and the fact that she cries during every practice, Tian does not care as he sees promise in her. He

As I was reading the Marriage unit assignments, I found I had a hard time relating to the readings
as I am Asexual Aromatic and cannot relate to the relationships or many of the circumstances the
authors wrote about. However, one story that really stood out which I could semi relate to, was
Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros. The main character CleГіfilas s story has many
similarities to my mother s. While the story doesn t directly relate to me, the parallel events of
CleГіfilas s and my mother s stories have affected my life in one way or another. Similarly to
CleГіfilas, my mother experienced domestic violence, isolation from friends and family, as well as a

John Winthrop s Sermon, On The Model Of Christian Charity...
The call of John Winthrop for the Massachusetts Bay colony to be a City on a Hill literally meant
for the members of the colony to be a spiritual example and guide for others, but also implies the
ontological statement of exceptionalism through capital gain. In this paper, the reader will discover
the connection between John Winthrop and mercantilism, which is a branch of capitalism that
focuses on merchants trading using the government to help regulate the expansion of capital. In
addition, the content of this paper will extrapolate on the pragmatic implications of this economic
system and its effects on the people involved. John Winthrop s sermon, On the Model of Christian
Charity, establishes a pre capitalist ideology through the presupposition of Winthrop s personal
/political beliefs, Puritanthought, and the manifestation of these thoughts actualized in the
marginalization of Native Americans. Firstly, John Winthrop earned the reputation of a
compassionate and just judge over a decade of service, but he came to realize that it would be
impossible to reach fame and fortune in England without substituting his Puritan values. In 1629,
stockholders came together and elected John Winthrop as lead of the company, which existed due
to the vast amount of opposition that the Anglican Church received from the Puritan community.
John Winthrop believed that his fellow Englishmen should join him in his idea that the company

The Role Of Criminal Dilemmas In The Criminal Justice System
Crime has never been new to society. As time passes, more crimes are being made making this
world be filled with unlawful acts. The role of the criminal justice system is to keep everything
fair and safe by regulating the procedures of the law to satisfy the victims and remove the
criminals from society. In this world, there is always a need of protection, a shield to make the
people feel safe in their environment. Dilemmas in the system become apparent from concerns
connecting to the morals of a human being. These morals are embedded into the character of the

Research Paper On Perampanel
Introduction Perampanel (FycompaВ®) is a new antiepileptic drug used as a secondary therapy
in adolescents and adults who suffer from partial onset seizures. Perampanel was identified via a
focused discovery program at Eisai Research Laboratories in London and Ibaraki Prefecture,
Japan (Satlin, Kramer Laurenza, 2013). It is a selective, non competitive antagonist drug and is
the first in this new class of antiepileptic drug known as a amino 3 hydroxy 5 methyl 4
isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) type glutamate receptor antagonist on post synaptic neurons;
thereby selectively preventing the transmission of seizures by blocking the effects of
glutamate(Perucca, French and Bialer, 2007). Glutamate affects how electrical activity is spread
in the brain and it is believed perampanel helps to reduce seizures by blocking this electrical spread
to the brain (Plosker, 2012). This is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
AMPA receptors are localized at a postsynaptic level and under normal condition transduce
responses to glutamate, released before the junction across which a nerve impulse passes from an
axon terminal to a neuron, muscle cell, orgland cell. In the brain, AMPA receptors are the most
represented ionotropic glutamate receptors and mediate excitatory neurotransmission.
Hypersensitivity and overexpression of AMPA receptors in human epileptic hippocampal and
neocortical tissue has been reported and an excessive glutamate release has been observed during
seizure activity. (Zaccara et al., 2013) studies Suggest that reducing the overstimulation of AMPA
receptors via AMPA receptor antagonism can have an anticonvulsant effect and inhibit seizure
generation and spread. In addition to their anticonvulsant effects, AMPA receptor antagonists could
play an important neuroprotective role by preventing neuronal death and could elicit an anti
epileptogenic effect (Franco et al.,

The First System Of Law Enforcement
When the first settlers came over from England, they didn t have a clue on how to survive or
make their way in a new environment. To ensure their survival, they tried to use the information
that they had learned in England to help them start their way, such as scavenging for food,
collecting wood to build a shelter, and finding places to get fresh water. Over the decades,
Americans and early settlers have copied English ways of living before changing them to fit their
needs today, such as, spelling by removing the u from words like color, driving on the other side
of the road and finding our own food style that doesn t consist of tea and scones.
When the early, New England settlers came to America, they tried to set up their own ways of life
that differed from the mother country of England. For example, in 1631, the first system of law
enforcement was established. It was modeled after the British police structure, which incorporated
the watch, constables, and sheriffs in a community based police organization. While colonists
started settling into the New World, local ordinances had allowed for constables to be appointed.
The townspeople of each town created an unpaid watch made up of six watchmen, one constable,
and several volunteers who patrolled at night. This is what is written down in the National Law
Enforcement Museum for the origin of the police, but in actuality, the police system was shaped
and originated by slave patrols and night watches.

Learning Environment in Clinical Practice
Clinical practice in hospital plays an important part of learning environment for nursing curriculum.
Mc Cabe (1985) thinks that clinical learning experience provides students for knowledge and
socializing in professional education. Furthermore, the professional socialization of nursing
students occurs largely in the practice setting (Windsor 1987.Lee French 1997).

Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Literary Analysis
In literature, the concepts of alienation and separation are employed to depict the necessity of
personal interaction and social mingling for all humans. In his Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka
attempts to unearth the plausible dangers of social rejection via Gregor s metamorphosis into a
monstrous vermin, which in turn eventually leads to his alienation from not only his family, but also
his past life. Furthermore, to depict the notion of alienation to his audience Kafka utilizes his
vivid development of Gregor s workaholic attitude, Gregor s transformation in to a massive bug,
and the primary emotion of guilt, which Gregor inadvertently faces due to his belief of sacrificing
his life for the betterment of his family. Therefore, Kafka exploits Gregor s alienation to depict his
underlying theme of the novel humans heavy dependence on society not only leads to the loss of
their individuality, but also leads to the loss of their humanity. Prior to Gregor s transformation, he
seemed quite unhappy, concerning his life, as he was alienated by the expectations that were
weighed down on him by the society particularly his family. Consequently, in order to fulfill his
duty he alienates himself from his family by spending a significant amount of time travelling, and

Stradbroke Island Case Study
Stradbroke Island s sandmining industry grew from modest beginnings where as early as 1948
hand mining using shovels and trucks on the beach was established. Over numerous decades this
soon developed into present days use of large scale dredging. The establishment of aerial ropeways
to transport minerals for processing to Dunwich began in 1956 where the commencement of dredge
miningwas initiated. Only a decade later, the concentrations of the rich black mineralbeing mined
were exhausted to the point that the miners moved their operations to the fore dunes. Whilst the
mining only caused minimal disruption to the environment, as the industry began to expand in the
1970s so did the impact on North Stradbroke s ecosystem. Sand mining company Consolidated
Rutile Limited (CRL) instigated dredge mining on Stradbroke s high dunes in 1979, this radically

Summary Of Amos, Amos And Haggai
Summary of Amos and Haggai In the book of Amos, Amos is a shepherd and takes care of fig
trees (Amos 1:1, 7:14). He was not a prophet nor did he come from a family of prophets (Amos
7:14). Amos lived in the region of Tokoa, not far from the city of Jerusalem (Amos 1:1). God sent
Amos away primarily to the nation of Israel, this is where he would deliver his prophecy against
the northern kingdom of Israeland surrounding nations, thus leading to resistance from the Israelites
(Amos 7:12). During this time Uzziah was king of Judah from 781 to 740 B.C. and Jeroboam II
reigned in Israel from 783 to 743 B.C. (American BibleSociety). God spoke of the judgment on
Syria, Philistia, Edom, Ammon, Moab, Judah, and Israel for countless crimes (Amos 1:3 15, 2:1
16). Those in Judah, like Amos, were considered country bumpkins by the sophisticated people of
Israel (Smith). Amos contemptible to his audience (Smith). The prophet Amos main message was
that the Israelites had forgotten God s past punishments for unfaithfulness and selfishness.
There was a time of great prosperity between the countries of Israel and Judah and both countries
had reached new political and military heights (Amos: Introduction). The northern kingdom of
Israel had a reason to be feeling pleased with themselves from the money made off the trade routes
that passed through their territory, thus adding to their growing wealth, the weather was ideal for

How Did Structural Functionalism Contribute To The...
Structural functionalists view the family as a unit that meets the need of its members. When the
family functions well, it contributes to the stability of society. Marriage is viewed as a mutually
satisfying arrangement between 2 members of the opposite gender. Traditional gender roles are
carried out with the man being the financial and status provider in a family, and the woman
performing household duties, providing emotional and sexual support, and raising the children.
Structural functionalists feel that these traditional roles make for a strong family unit, in which the
children grow up to become well functioning members of society.
Rapid social change does not win favor in the structural functionalist theory. Trends such as single
parent households, divorce, and most certainly same sex couples are seen as major contributors to
the breakdown of the family. Of course, the functionalist perspective does not take into account the

continuance of social inequality. Because the family, in most societies, is patriarchal, it is viewed
as contributing to the inequality between the sexes. Having definite gender roles sets up the
comparison of work done by the husband (often valued higher because it brings in the salary)
versus work done by the wife in the home. Conflict theorists further believe that [the family unit]
works toward the continuance of social inequality within a society by maintaining and reinforcing
the status quo by maintaining wealth and privilege within the unit. In this way, members are able

Karl Marx s Views on Religion
Karl Marx has greatly influenced the creation of the modern world and was one of the first
revolutionary communist. Through his literary works and philosophies he helped to inspire many
20th century communist regimes including the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and North Korea. Marx
s ideas did not end at communism; his religious ideology also helped shape and mold the 20th
century world. Karl Marxwas born in 1818 in Trier, Germany and died in 1883. He was a
philosopher who turned to economics and politics in his mid 20 s. His family was Jewish but
they converted to Christianity so that Marx s father might pursue his career as a lawyer. Marx

In the preface to his doctoral dissertation, Marx adopted as his motto the words of the Greek hero
Prometheus who defied the gods to bring fire to humanity: I hate all gods, with addition that they
do not recognize man s self consciousness as the highest divinity (Marx).
Third, religion is hypocritical. Although it might profess valuable principles, it sides with the
oppressors. Jesus advocated helping the poor, but the Christian church merged with the oppressive
Roman state, taking part in the enslavement of people for centuries. In the Middle Ages the
Catholic Church preached about heaven, but acquired as much property and power as possible.
Martin Luther preached the ability of each individual to interpret the Bible, but sided with
aristocratic rulers and against peasants who fought against economic and social oppression.
According to Marx, this new form of Christianity, Protestantism, was a production of new
economic forces as early capitalism developed. New economic realities required a new religious
superstructure by which it could be justified and defended. In addition to critiquing religion, Karl
Marx wrote about the basic ideologies and principles on socialism and communism. In The
Communist Manifesto, Marx discusses the problems facing society and how the government is
responsible for this. According to Marx, the East Indian and Chinese markets, the colonization of

This device is the setting in which this whole story takes place in. The setting so important to
the theme because of the time period at which it, the narrative, takes place in. The 1800s women

Persuasive Essay On Foster Care
60 percent of kids who age out of foster care are dead, homeless, or in jail within a year. There
needs to be more focus on the foster care system and child homelessness. Children should not be
living on the streets, they need a home and a loving family so that they can grow up and live a
stable, independent life.
Unfortunately, there will always be kids who get abused and neglected, and there will always be
people who live in poverty, but this issue can be improved. First, we need more educational
training for foster parents, as well as educating the public about the foster care system. There needs
to be more funding for foster care so that children have an opportunity to have an education, and
foster parents have the right resources for their foster children. That is where this charity comes in,
The Alliance for Children s Rights.

The Gold Of The Bronze Style
In China, bronze was often employed with ritual vessels, and this can be best seen with a
comparison between an eleventh century B.C.E. you vessel and a fourth century hu vessel that
were standard in this time period. These pieces were in high demand during this period from
feudal dignitaries starting during the Shang period. They served the purpose of holding wine for
ritual ceremonies. The hu especially acted as a vessel for diluting wine with water. While the hu
vessel was popular in the Eastern Zhou territory, the you vessel was most frequently used during

This was common during this period, as they represented as zoomorphic masks, where humans
are made to look like animals. Around the birds, the artist designed geometric images to fill in
the space. In order to separate the images in the background of the you, the artist incorporates
bands. This creates a symmetrical layout of the different images around the vessel, as they
repeat. The animal motifs outside of the background also repeat symmetrically, as you circle the

the you vessel. The pictorial representations also follow a band structure. Although the majority of
the bands are filled with geometric designs, one band repeats second from the top and second
from the bottom and it features birds. These birds are less naturalistic than ones featured in the

of some bronze vessels of the late Zhou period. Often it is less pictorially handled, as on vessels

What I mean by that is that in a round table there are going to be some students who are not facing
the same direction. These students should have the same amount of opportunity to view the
teaching and the instruction as any of the other students. The second step for creating a student
centered mint is teaching. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math.
It is important that teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are
answering the questions their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the
book teaching students entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of
mathematics because they are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification,
finding or creating examples, generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts,
representing ideas in differВ ent ways, and articulating connections or relationships between the
given topic and other ideas. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 6). Method of
teaching is very important when teaching mathematics to children. With facilitative methods, the
teacher might use investigations and inquiry, cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that
are more open‐ended. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 10). This is

The application of pragmatics in literary analysis dates back to the 1970s. Although previous

  • 2. Peekay s Camouflage In The Great Gatsby Peekay s camouflage is a symbol of growth that diminishes as he begins to grow and accept himself. When he starts at the boarding school, Peekay s camouflage grows very extreme. He is learning that the more he stands out, the more harm will come to him. After he returns to the school, Peekay realizes he has forgotten an essential rule to surviving. The holidays had blunted my sense of survival: adapt, blend, become part of the landscape, develop a camouflage, be a rock or a leaf or a stick insect, try in every way to be an Afrikaner (Courtenay 23). This quote puts the reader in Peekay s shoes and helps them realize how much he yearns to be like the other boys. During his time at boarding school, things may be looking pretty poor for Peekay, ... • 3. Life of Peru s Indigenous People Essay Throughout the history of Latin American countries, like Peru there has been dramatic change in the overall way of life. These changes are largely due to external influences on the international level such as the Spanish conquest of Andean territories. However no matter whether the process of change was political, economic, social or cultural, they all have similarities and are interconnected. These different types of change are closely intertwined and influence one another while linking the local level of life with foreign (on an (inter)national level) events and forces. Also along with these changes, some aspects of indigenous life remain stable and continue throughout these external influences. In this essay I will discuss continuity... As a result the Peruvian indigenous people set up multiple ecological zones along these mountain sides (slopes) to increase the efficiency of their production. This technique known as verticality let the people diversify their subsistence strategies and become more self sufficing. This division of production zones were setup into four distinct production zones. Some of these zones were used for animal domestication and tuber production while others were used for the production of certain crops (maize, potatoes, tropical fruits, coca ) that grew best at their zones climatic conditions. These indigenous people would then travel to different zones throughout the day to manage and exploit these lands. However the distances between these four zones were extreme in some measures. Therefore in order to increase traveling efficiency, these people would settle in the middle of these ecological zones to give each production division adequate attention. Another important feature of the Incan indigenous agricultural system was water. In order to conserve water and structure it s usage most efficiently, the people followed the value of equity. They saw water as a form of common property that belongs to everyone. As a result they handled water management by abiding to the two specific principles of uniformity and proportionality. The people controlled and developed the land so that everyone received water with the same frequency. Therefore if everyone irrigated their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ambiguity In The Turn Of The Screw Within The Turn of the Screw, Henry James uses clothing as a means of class division. He pairs the outward appearance with other aspects such as colors and diction to give a distinctive air to the characters within the novel. Through the description of clothing or the lack thereof, James is able to convey specific things about the characters through their degree of conformity to societal rules. Throughout history, fashion has been the biggest indicator of social and economic status. While the sumptuary laws of the Elizabethan era that determined the color and style people of different ranks were allowed to wear ended around 200 years prior to the time the novel was written, society has always imparted a strict set of rules for its given era on propriety. There s always an emphasis on dress no matter what age, the rules just fluctuate from era to era. As well as the use and emphasis of color pertaining to Miss Jessel and for instance Flora with her hair of gold and frock of blue, (James 32). The fact that James does not specify what shade of blue she s wearing lends to the ambiguity of her character. Blue is a juxtaposing shade, which represents a multitude of things such as calmness or depression. Lighter shades of blue are usually associated with the lower class servants since the plant used to dye was commonly found. Art in the middle ages the Virgin Mary was almost always depicted in a darker navy blue symbolizing innocence and trustworthiness. For instance, I remember my mom used to get these really bad leg cramps, she explained it as a sharp, excruciating pain that made her unable to even stand, and I would always help her by massaging the area. It got to the point where every time she got a cramp she would call out for me to help her because I always made the pain go away. • 10. Essay On Ed s Tall Tales Humankind fought numerous wars in the twentieth century. In the United States, none affected the everyday lives of those left at home to the extent that the Second World War did. The government rationed essential war material, such as rubber, gasoline, and numerous food items. Teens, disabled, middle aged, and elderly, male and female, kept farms productive and factories turning out munitions at an unprecedented level. Although people endured hardships, they also found opportunities for adventure and financial gain. For countless people, the war changed the direction of their lives.1 Their stories are diverse. Ed s Tall Tales In the 1960s, during my junior high and high school years, I frequently earned money by working for our next door neighbors, Ed and Alice Larson. In the winter, I shoveled the snow from their sidewalks and occasionally, when the snow accumulated from multiple storms, I cleared the snow off their roof. In the summer, I received seventy five cents each time I mowed their grass. Since Ed provided both the lawn mower and fuel, I discounted my usual one dollar charge for a lawn of their size. After moving out of my childhood home, I seldom interacted with Ed and Alice. However, while visiting my parents in the mid 1970s, Ed and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essay on Important Elements Of A Campaign Strategy Important Elements of a Campaign Strategy Campaigning for any type of elected office requires a sharp eye for detail in regard to what voters are looking for in a candidate. A campaign strategy should be comprehensive in its efforts to reach as many voters as possible. Yet, without a solid base of ideas from which to expand upon, the message being conveyed can easily be lost or taken out of context. In order for a campaign manager to avoid this blunder from occurring and maximize the candidate s chances of victory, he or she must pay attention to a few basic campaigning elements before attempting to stretch the campaign to its maximum visibility. Still, it is vital for a candidate at any level to develop a grasp of the different groups that will decide his or her fate. As stated earlier, this dimension of the campaign process is primarily dealt with before the campaign commences. Once completed, the popular definition of the word campaign takes form. Conveying a message to the voters in the form of speeches, advertisement, and public appearances is the primary objective of a political campaign. This lets the public know what any given candidate can offer them if elected to office. The simplest manner in which to convey whatever message is to incorporate it into a campaign theme. quot;It is a serious mistake to assume that voters are paying close attention to your election, or any election quot; (Shea 1996, 148). The fact is that most voters do not go out of their way to make the right voting choice. All a voter wants is a quick and simple reason to vote for a candidate. If every voter researched the possible candidates before each election, campaigning would be obsolete. The political campaign serves as a vehicle to inform voters. The best and most effective way for a candidate to do this is with a campaign theme. A campaign theme should be general in nature. It should be an idea that a large group can grab hold of. If the theme selected is too precise, it portrays the candidate as narrow minded. Simply put, the broader a theme is, the more voters it attracts (Shea 1996, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Aladdin a Disney Fairytale A long, long time ago, in the year of 1992, a very famous Disney Fairytale hit the big screen. Aladdin is about a young orphan on a fascinating journey to becoming a heroic man. The majority of people are unaware of the qualifications of a real hero. Many people think the only way to achieve heroism is by dying for something or someone you love. There are heroes everywhere you look, Disney movies, fairytales, cartoons, books etc. A hero doesn t have to possess unusual superpowers like, immortality, time traveling, invisibility, mind control or superhuman strength. In fact, some super heroes possess nothing more than, love, generosity, kindness, cheer and trust. Sometimes all you need to be a hero is abandonment at birth, a friend and a will to survive. This is exactly why I chose the Disney character of Aladdin. This charming story, made famous by Disney takes place in the Middle East. The trials and tribulations of Aladdin include moments of love, adventure, trickery, and deceit. Aladdin embarks in this journey unintentionally but proves to have endured a comprehensive maturation of character while achieving valuable insight about who is truly is and what he stands for by the time he completes his adventure. The call of John Winthrop for the Massachusetts Bay colony to be a City on a Hill literally meant for the members of the colony to be a spiritual example and guide for others, but also implies the ontological statement of exceptionalism through capital gain. In this paper, the reader will discover the connection between John Winthrop and mercantilism, which is a branch of capitalism that focuses on merchants trading using the government to help regulate the expansion of capital. The role of the criminal justice system is to keep everything fair and safe by regulating the procedures of the law to satisfy the victims and remove the criminals from society. In this world, there is always a need of protection, a shield to make the people feel safe in their environment. Dilemmas in the system become apparent from concerns connecting to the morals of a human being. These morals are embedded into the character of the criminal; in spite of the victims being affected by the wrongs of the delinquent, the relatives of the delinquent could suffer acutely causing tremendous damage not only to society, but to the family of the delinquent as well. The wrongs and rights behavior of the lawbreaker are studied by the thoughts, intentions, and reactions. To ensure their survival, they tried to use the information that they had learned in England to help them start their way, such as scavenging for food, collecting wood to build a shelter, and finding places to get fresh water. Over the decades, Americans and early settlers have copied English ways of living before changing them to fit their needs today, such as, spelling by removing the u from words like color, driving on the other side of the road and finding our own food style that doesn t consist of tea and scones. When the early, New England settlers came to America, they tried to set up their own ways of life that differed from the mother country of England. For example, in 1631, the first system of law enforcement was established. It was modeled after the British police structure, which incorporated the watch, constables, and sheriffs in a community based police organization. While colonists started settling into the New World, local ordinances had allowed for constables to be appointed. The townspeople of each town created an unpaid watch made up of six watchmen, one constable, and several volunteers who patrolled at night. Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Literary Analysis In literature, the concepts of alienation and separation are employed to depict the necessity of personal interaction and social mingling for all humans. In his Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka attempts to unearth the plausible dangers of social rejection via Gregor s metamorphosis into a monstrous vermin, which in turn eventually leads to his alienation from not only his family, but also his past life. Furthermore, to depict the notion of alienation to his audience Kafka utilizes his vivid development of Gregor s workaholic attitude, Gregor s transformation in to a massive bug, and the primary emotion of guilt, which Gregor inadvertently faces due to his belief of sacrificing his life for the betterment of his family. Therefore, Kafka exploits Gregor s alienation to depict his underlying theme of the novel humans heavy dependence on society not only leads to the loss of their individuality, but also leads to the loss of their humanity. When the family functions well, it contributes to the stability of society. Marriage is viewed as a mutually satisfying arrangement between 2 members of the opposite gender. Traditional gender roles are carried out with the man being the financial and status provider in a family, and the woman performing household duties, providing emotional and sexual support, and raising the children. Structural functionalists feel that these traditional roles make for a strong family unit, in which the children grow up to become well functioning members of society. Rapid social change does not win favor in the structural functionalist theory. Trends such as single parent households, divorce, and most certainly same sex couples are seen as major contributors to the breakdown of the family. Martin Luther preached the ability of each individual to interpret the Bible, but sided with aristocratic rulers and against peasants who fought against economic and social oppression. According to Marx, this new form of Christianity, Protestantism, was a production of new economic forces as early capitalism developed. The animal motifs outside of the background also repeat symmetrically, as you circle the you. While the hu vessel was made around seven centuries later, it features similar decorations as the you vessel. The pictorial representations also follow a band structure. Although the majority of the bands are filled with geometric designs, one band repeats second from the top and second from the bottom and it features birds. These birds are less naturalistic than ones featured in the you vessel, but they serve a stylistic purpose. At this time, the hunt is also a characteristic subject of some bronze vessels of the late Zhou period. Often it is less pictorially handled, as on vessels with panels of rather geometric, static hunting scenes in low relief silhouette. Here the hunt is represented with the birds depicted in the bands. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math. It is important that teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are answering the questions their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the book teaching students entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of mathematics because they are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification, finding or creating examples, generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts, representing ideas in differВ ent ways, and articulating connections or relationships between the given topic and other ideas. With facilitative methods, the teacher might use investigations and inquiry, cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that are more open‐ended.
