SMART Board

      EDP 279
Target Area
 This lesson would target students that are in
  Kindergarten. About ages 5-7.

 The content area that is being taught will be math along
  with matching.

 The students will have to correctly match the amount of
objects with a specific number given.

 Sometimes the number is written out, the numeral is
given, and/or the students have to count the number of
  objects presented.
URL
 http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=464c1e
  ac-445c-4660-a8df-b6529f92905e
 This link will be adapted to fit the needs of my students
as well as making it more appropriate for my
  classroom.
 There is a picture that represents a Christmas tree and
I would eliminate this because I would not want to
offend anyone of different cultures and beliefs.
 I would change the Christmas tree into a pyramid so
the students can still participate in the same activity, but
  it would be less offensive.
Overview
 I would use this resource of counting to be very
  interactive with the students.

 This activity would benefit the students that learn
kinesthetically. They would be able to go up to the
board and physically move the correct number to the
correct location on the SMART Board.

 This activity would also help the visual learners. These
students would be able to see exactly how the numbers
correspond with each other and why they belong
  together.
Overview Continued
 Using the SMART Board would help enhance fine motor
skills since the students have to physically drag and drop the
  object to its correct location.
 Students would be interacting socially with other classmates
when counting together and stating if the answer was
correct or not. This would encourage the development of
  social interaction.
 I would use the different exercises first as a learning tool. I
would demonstrate what needed to be done and then have
the students follow along while helping me out.
Overview Continued
 Next, I would prompt the students on what to do and
assisting them when they needed help. I would also get the
class involved by having them count along with me when/if a
  student was stuck.
 Then, I would have the students do the activity together in
groups. They would have to lean on each other for
assistance and work through the different activities together.
 Finally, I would have the students work on the different
activities individually to see if they understand the concept of
counting. Other times, I could put them into teams and have
them play a game, but the students would have to solve the
  problem on their own.
Universal Design
 This activity on the SMART Board would support
universal design because I would adapt the different
learning activities to the different kinds of learners in
the classroom. I would make sure that I got everyone
involved and everyone would have a turn using the
  SMART Board.

 The students would be engaged by being up and out of
their seats. I would use different examples for different
students. Throughout the activity, counting is
represented in different fashions, which would cater to
different ideas that express the same meaning to all of
  the students.
