Content
What I plan on teaching with this lesson plan is for my students to understand the place value of
numbers. How I will be doing this is by giving my students beans that will help my students
understand the place value of numbers. First, I need to find out what my students already know,
understand and what they are able to do. Once I find that out I can put them in groups depending
on what they know. Seeing that everyone learn differently, I need to find out how my students
learn and if they have trouble with math. How I would go about doing this is sending around a

survey, which my students can answer. Another thing I need to find out is if any of my students
have trouble with sensory issues, if so then I will need to use something besides beans. Seeing
most children know some what about money, I could use dimes. Another way, I could teach this
lesson plan is by playing games, such as Guess my Number, in this game, I would pick a number
from the hundred chart, the students would ask me questions trying to guess what number it is. I
will cross off the number off my chart and see how many guess it takes them. Once they guess
the right number, the students will have to show me how to right out the number. One group can
play this game the other group could use the beans or the money. These two ways of learning
this lesson can help both groups, the guessing the number game, would be fun for the students
and they will still be learning. The other way I could teach this lesson is by given another group
a hundred chart picture this would be a good activity for the students that are having a hard time
understanding place value. The chart would be a 10 x 10 grid and I will give this group this grid
and crayons. I will have the students color certain number boxes such as 501 or 351 or 15
(Manitoba Education, n. d.).
Process
Seeing that some of the students do not understand place value, I will have the group start off
with the materials I will give them such as: place value work mat, spinner template, dried beans,
craft sticks, glue, paper clips and pencils. This group I will explain that each bean is a “one” so
ten beans together is a “ten”. This group will count out ten beans for each stick, then the.
Unit Plan
This unit plan outlines a four-lesson unit for 11th grade students focused on helping them plan for life after high school. Lesson one involves a "Walk the Line" activity to help students identify career interests based on their skills and interests. Lesson two includes an online career exploration game to research careers of interest. Lesson three uses an online tool to help students identify college majors related to their career interests. The final lesson has students research colleges that offer programs for their chosen careers. Each lesson involves instruction, activities, assessment, and closure to help students develop a plan for their post-secondary goals.

- 2. Introduction to Connect Four as a Lesson - When looking on SMART Exchange, I was able to find many different resources that appeal to me as a future educator. There are many interesting activities like digital Jeopardy as well as digital board games. - I felt as though Connect Four was an interactive way to keep my students engaged while allowing them to work as a team to answer questions on current content and compete for prizes. - I feel as though Connect Four on the SMART Board would be a great way to review current lesson information as well as prepare them to work on teams in the future.
- 3. The Content Within the Lesson - What is nice about this Connect Four lesson outline is that it can be used for any subject. As a Special Education teacher, I will be working with students on every core subject. - A way that I would adapt this lesson is my incorporating questions about Geometry when reviewing for a math test or at the end of a unit.
- 4. My Adapted Lesson Plan - I would divide my class into two groups, red and black. We would flip a coin to see which team would go first. - Next, I would have the starting team pick a number and answer the question behind the number about Geometry. They would work as a team to figure out the answer and, if they were correct, they would be able to place one of their pieces wherever they would like on the board. - This would alternate between each team until there was a chosen winner.
- 5. My Adapted Lesson Plan Cont. - I would have students write down the questions that they did not know the answers to and, instead of giving them the answers right away, I would have them work within their groups after the game and take home the questions to figure out the answers. - This method will allow my students to work to find out what they do not know as well as work to review for the test or end of unit project. - It is important to use digital resources to keep my students engaged and having fun while reviewing or learning new material.
