This lesson plan teaches 1st through 4th grade students how to tell time using a Smart Board. The teacher will display a clock on the Smart Board and link different educational activities and games to each hour. Students will volunteer to select hours on the clock to access the corresponding activities. The teacher will begin with just hours and then progress to including minutes as well. The goals are for students to understand how clocks work and be able to tell time down to the minute. The lesson incorporates Universal Design principles by including goal setting, multiple means of presentation to engage different learners, and giving students choice in selecting times for peers.

Telling Time
Introduction
Everyone wants to know how to tell time correctly, and since everyone wants to be punctual also for example when going for an important appointment or when going for a morning lesson, it is essential therefore, that we learn how to tell time. This project is based on the WebQuest and it aims at helping the learner to grasp the basics in their process of learning how to tell time (Schwarz et.al.; 2015). If you do not know how to tell time you can find yourself in a situation where you wake up at 1 a.m and start preparing for school instead of waking up at 7 a.m! Isn’t that bad?
Task
By the end of this three day lesson you should have the basic knowledge of how to tell time on the clock. First, you will learn a song that is called ‘Hip Hop Around the Clock’. On the next day you will sing the song with your partner then the whole class will sing the song as the teacher moves the hour and the minute hands on the clock. This song will guide you in the following learning process (Sheahan et.al.; 2015). You will then watch a video about time with your partner and then practice what you have learnt on a WebQuest worksheet.
On the last day, you should be able to make a clock on your own using paper, fasteners, markers and a pair of scissors. You should now be able to move the hands of your clock to the positions stated by your teacher (Turk et.al.; 2018). The Measurement and Geometry 1.0 – 1.4 and Number Sense 1.0 are the California standards that should be met for the lessons and the tools used.
Conclusion
The learner has been equipped with the knowledge of telling time, congratulations! We will now want to apply this knowledge in real life situations. The teacher can choose an outdoor activity that involves the measurement of time and reading time on a clock. These are the first steps into becoming proficient in telling time.
This lesson equips the learner with important skills that will be applied throughout their lives. The learner should now be able to relate time with events. They can look at the position of sun and tell whether the time is a.m., which means before midday or p.m. that is after midday. Also, the learner can apply this knowledge by looking at the length of the shadows of the trees. Longest shadows occur in the morning and in the evening. This will help the learner to relate time with events.

This lesson should be done in a step to step manner in order for the learners to integrate and retain most of the knowledge (Siegler et.al.; 2014). Main skills targeted are observation, comprehension and retention .

The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Target Learners

I am creating my own lesson plan so I will not be
linking any lesson from the Smart Exchange website
3. Overview of Utilizing Resources
In my activity on the Smart Board I would be
trying to teach my students how to tell time. I
would utilize my Smart Board to have a fun
and interactive lesson that keeps my students
engaged and eager to learn more. I would
adapt my lesson at a basic level, since I am
teaching younger kids. I would include a
picture of a hand clock, and I would have
links to different activities and games
corresponding with each hour of the clock. I
would use my knowledge of safe and
reputable sources to pick out the websites I’d
link to the activities. They would be helpful
and informative to my class.
4. Overview cont.
I would begin the lesson by explaining what the hands
on the clock represent, which direction they rotate in,
and how the clock functions. This would give the
students background knowledge of how a clock works
before the lesson begins. Then, I would set goals for the
class, outlining what I hope for them to achieve in this
lesson. The overall goal would be to have a basic
understanding of the way that a clock works and how
to tell the time down to the minute. I would then ask
for volunteers to come up to the Smart Board and select
a certain hour that I have selected (ex. 3:00). Once the
student clicks on the 3 on the clock they will be
redirected to an activity about time from a different
website. This will give the students an incentive to focus
and choose the correct answer. Eventually, I will
progress to adding in minutes along with the hour and
the students will repeat the same process.
5. Relation to Universal Design
This lesson relates to Universal Design because I
include goal setting into my lesson plan. This helps
to give a more productive outlook on the lesson. It
will give the students specific points to work on so
they do not become overwhelmed and are able to
focus on the goals. I would provide multiple means
of presentation throughout the lesson. This is what
the different time activities would be include (ex.
Matching, counting, drawing, etc.) The reason for
doing this is so this lesson does not exclude
different types of learners. It is supposed to include
and engage everyone. There would be points in the
lesson where I allow the students to choose what
time they want their peers to find so that they have
the power of choice and feel more confident, in
control and independent in their skills.
