Powerhouse Gym Marketing Plan
3.5 Marketing Mix Strategies
3.5.1 Product Strategy
Powerhouse Gym product strategy should be to attract and retain business. The main goal should be to
promote a positive atmosphere and unforgettable experience that helps their clients lead a healthy
lifestyle. By offering exceptional product coupled with pleasing experience to promote repeat
business. By separating its experience from other gyms will give Powerhouse Gym the edge from
their competitors. One of the ways to separate themselves would be product offerings such as

3.5.2 Price Strategy
a. PG s Pricing Objective – Maximum market share
b. Demand –Generate enough membership to cover the $110K expenses (at least).
c. Costs – Operating Expenses of $110,000 per month
d. Competition price and offerings analysis – For month to month membership pricing, price ranges
between $29.95 (LA Fitness) to $49.95 (Lifetime Fitness) with differing enrollment rates. PG s no
money down rate of $39.95 is lower than all current competitors except LA Fitness. PG s $32.95 / $75
enrollment is lower than all except LA Fitness, which has higher enrollment fee of $99, and PG s
$26.95 / $125 enrollment is the lowest monthly rate. For membership contract plans, PG s one year
prepaid rate equates to $32.95 per month, which is lower than both Bally s ($39.95) and Curves
($39.95), and does not have the high enrollment fees associated.
e. Pricing Method – Going rate pricing
f. Final Price – Maintain price at current level since it is priced competitively with the month to
month competitors and lower than the contract competitors, while having little to no enrollment fees
while offering extra services free of charge, like child care and towel service.
3.5.3 Promotion Strategy
a. Promotion Strategy – Micro marketing to penetrate target market within 5 mile

Landfill In The Film Wasteland, By Vik Muniz
The movie Wasteland takes us on a journey to a landfill located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The
Brazilian artist, Vik Muniz, uses his skills to construct pieces of art from recyclable materials and
expresses a strong message through his portraits. Let us explore the lives of those wonderful people
who were touched by the beauty of trash. A movie exploring through a landfill may not seem
interesting, but once Vik makes his appearance, things get a lot more fascinating. Vik for instance, is
an unusual artist who makes some of his art from garbage and in his film he has a vision to change the
lives of the pickers in Brazil. He travels to Brazil from New York and meets several people who work
in the landfill. Throughout his journey he receives insight on what it s like to work in a landfill and
how it has affected the lives of these people. Of the 2 years of being there, he takes pictures of a
landfill, and several of the pickers, and composes many large portraits made of recyclables. As a
result, he takes a trip to London where one of his garbage portraits are getting auctioned off. He
dotates all of the money to the pickers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, if you look closely at his portraits displayed in the movie, then you can see he uses lines to form
the creases in the clothing, shape for the bodies and body parts, and spots of color for the background.
He also uses value through out the portrait to make the figure stand out, and texture in the hair and
around them to give the portrait a life like feel. To make it even better, he uses the principles of
emphasis, which would be the figure because when you first look at the portrait, the first thing that
catches your eye is the figure. Although many elements played a huge part in the making of these
creations, one principle also played a huge

Tilikum s The Killer Whale
The story of Tilikum,The Killer Whale is truly a gut wrenching tale of how being put in an undesirable
place can truly change the core of your being. Unlike how many people perceive killer whales,Tilikum
was a gentle giant. He was born just right of the cost of British Columbia and was part of a loving
community of other killer whales. Tilikum was an eccentric, playful, and docile baby whale. He would
swim for days with his pack, playing around with the other baby whales and cuddling up with his
parents whom he loved so much. All of that changed the day he was taken away from his pack by a
group of ruthless humans. The morning after Tilikum s capture, he found himself in a glass box, no
larger than the size of two killer whales. He looked for

Water Purification
Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemicals, biological contaminants,
suspended solids and gases from contaminated water. The goal is to produce water fit for a specific
purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (drinking water), but water purification may
also be designed for a variety of other purposes, including meeting the requirements of medical,
pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. In general the methods used include physical
processes such as filtration, sedimentation, and distillation, biological processes such as slow sand
filters or biologically active carbon, chemical processes such asflocculation and chlorination and the
use of electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such water may emerge as springs, artesian springs, or may be extracted from boreholes or wells.
Deep ground water is generally of very high bacteriological quality (i.e., pathogenic bacteria or the
pathogenic protozoa are typically absent), but the water may be rich in dissolved solids,
especiallycarbonates and sulfates of calcium and magnesium. Depending on the strata through which
the water has flowed, other ions may also be present including chloride, and bicarbonate. There may
be a requirement to reduce the iron or manganese content of this water to make it acceptable for
drinking, cooking, and laundry use. Primary disinfection may also be required. Where groundwater
recharge is practised (a process in which river water is injected into an aquifer to store the water in
times of plenty so that it is available in times of drought), the groundwater may require additional
treatment depending on applicable state and federal regulations. 2. Upland lakes and reservoirs:
Typically located in the headwaters of river systems, upland reservoirs are usually sited above any
human habitation and may be surrounded by a protective zone to restrict the opportunities for
contamination. Bacteria and pathogen levels are usually low, but some bacteria, protozoa or algae will
be present. Where uplands are forested or peaty, humic acids can colour the

The Reflection Of Teamwork In The Nursing Team
I always knew that teamwork makes the most difficult work easier. Working in a team has always
been a great experience for me. I like the fact that the nursing program makes us work in a team. I
have been working in a different team in my several other classes such as Microbiology, Anatomy and
English including HPR. I have been enjoying working as a team with my different classmates.
Learning has been a fun as a team. With regard to the nursing course, HPR is one of the subjects in
which I have been assigned with my other four classmates to work for the team project presentation.
My other four classmates named Brittani C., Ashely, Brittani M., and Mich worked together for a
group presentation of the nosocomial disease. The main objective of our group is to create awareness
regarding one of the nosocomial disease called MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).
The learning experience with a group was effective in a way that the tasks were divided among four of
us. The task was divided in a way that each one of us was responsible for the research of required
information. Research was divided into statistic, case study, sign and symptoms, risk factors and
prevention measures. All five of us picked one topic to research. My role in the team was to find the
supporting information regarding symptoms. Nevertheless, we worked in a team to find all the
required information needed to support our presentation. Working on a team and contributing as a
valuable member of the team is very important for the success of the team. We worked as a strong
team in the lead of Mich who provided us a clear division of task and maintained strong
communication within the team member. As a valuable member of the team, I also helped my team by
collecting required information about MRSA, making posters for the presentation and participating in
every meeting. I also made sure that information regarding meetings and agenda to be discussed was
well understood by the group. I completed my role by participating in group discussion regarding our
presentation topic, required information on a topic and preparing the presentation material. However,
the success of our team is the result of our teamwork and collaboration. Teamwork

The Political Interest Of Madagascar
Madagascar has always been of great political interest to many countries and governments. It seems a
suitable island that is out of the way, but it is in the centre of everything at the same time. People are
very unsuspecting of it, and it was the same in World War 2 as well...
The Germans and the rest of the Axis had very good reasons for wanting to control Madagascar. The
first is that they were going to use this remote island as a place to deport some of the remaining 10,000
Jewish refugees still in France that had not been able to find a home in South Africa or Brazil. The
French were not the only ones suffering though; the Polish and the Germans really need to get the
Jews out as well. However like many of the other Nazi ideologies, it was not a new one. A lot of
British, Polish and Dutch anti Semites had been considering the idea to move the Jews there since as
early as 1878.
Luckily for Nazis, Madagascar was under the control and within the empire of Vichy France (the part
of France that had surrendered to Hitler), and according to the surrender terms, France had to let the
Germans into Madagascar as well. It was going to be easy. Not only would it get rid of the Jews, but it
would also help the Axis financially as the Jews were currently surviving on charity. In May 1936,
there was a new French administration voted in, and there was serious talk of the Jews being moved
there, and they even went as far as to investigate the island to check if it was liable for that

Tuck Everlasting Motifs
Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three continuous
motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif because of the
several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the
development of theme in Tuck Everlasting by using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies.
First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the following reasons included in
Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a pass me by look, the road knows where to go, and the Tucks look
the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best
motif used in the book.
Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death
because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time
is: Everything s a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the bugs, and
the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. But never the same ones. Always coming in new,
always growing and changing, and always moving on. That s the way it s supposed to be. That s the
way it is. Angus Tuck is talking about the wheel of life. That time moves on. People are growing and
changing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this rowboat now, it s stuck. If we didn t move it ourself, it would stay here forever, trying to get

wheel no more. That s when the motif Fantasy comes in. The Tuck s are immortal now. People can t
actually be immortal. They can t be dropped off of the wheel of life. By introducing the analogies of
the water cycle: wheel of life ::rowboat:Tucks, she makes a point of saying that the Tucks are going to
stay living forever, making the motif fantasy become more of a supportive

Youth over Age
Introduction Jim Fogle has worked in the technical sector for more than 30 years. He has held various
positions within the same company throughout his career. During this time, he has witnessed the
introduction of new technologies while countless others have gone obsolete. Although Fogle possesses
several years of proven industry experience, his career path does not reflect his performance or skills.
In fact, Fogle s career has tended to move on a downward slope. Originally a member of the
Engineering department, Fogle has found himself serving within progressively lesser roles. Twenty
years ago, Fogle served as an area support manager and coordinated technical service and support
over the Southeast region. Fifteen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions
has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary,
stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially
due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards
developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology
rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the
facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies
such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to
maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher
of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young
image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to
shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these
descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). A 2001
survey illustrates the disparity in both staffing and average salaries for IT professionals. This survey
consisted of 3,629 total respondents, of which 40

Essay on Mutual Mistake
Abstract Mutual Mistake of fact is when both parties of a contract make an assumption of fact when
contract is formed and signed. The mistake must significantly change what you have to do under the
contract, almost to the point where it s an entirely different agreement. Although, if you knew there
was a strong chance or probability of mistake at the time the contract was signed, you may have
assumed the risk of that mistake. You therefore cannot use the mutual mistake defense. Not all cases
of Mutual Mistake are strong enough to void a contract. Contract Law: Mistake of Fact In the given
case: Josh Hartly was interested in purchasing a new car and visits his local auto dealer. In the course
of his negotiations, he tells the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(LaMance, 2011) It is absolutely agreeable that in these types of situations that a contract be deemed
void from a mutual mistake of fact. If, for example, someone was contacted to dig a whole in someone
s backyard but after the contract had been signed both parties had found out that under a thin layer of
dirt was solid rock, a mutual mistake of fact could make the contract void since neither party knew of
the rock under the surface. If a mutual mistake defense was not possible then the person contracted to
dig the whole would have to dig the whole under any circumstance and run the risk of destroying their
equipment and/or having to spend more money for equipment capable of doing the job. In the case of
John Harlty neither party acted unethically. Though one could argue that the salesperson should of
known that the manufacturer was to stop production on cars with either a 3.2 liter and 3.9 liter V6
engine and begin production on a new model with a 3.5 liter engine before trying to sell a
discontinued car to a customer. This would make it a unilateral mistake of fact because the salesperson
had a reason to know of the mistake and it was his fault that led to the mistake (Emanuel, 2011). But,
on the other hand, buying a new car is a pretty big deal and the potential customer should have done
their own research and found out that a certain model of car was to be changed in

copper. Copper is one of the first metals ever to be handled by human hands and till this day is still

scene the protagonist receives a gift from Mr. Thatcher wishing him a merry
Christmas. And cuts directly to a happy new year, some ten years later.
Suggesting conveniently, the lack of a meaningful childhood. This editing
technique carries the viewer quickly through time, to the beginning of Charles
idealism. The films plot is separated into flashbacks of the important people in
Kane s life. Each flashback is in sequence with the events of his life. The
nature of each flashback is consistent with the narrators opinion. The first
flashback is that of Mr. Thatcher s. He was the only person involved in Charles
pre adult life. Although not greatly involved, his presence is purely in the
area of financial aspects. Bernstein s flashback focuses on a very positive and
successful part of Kane s life. Which is concordant to Bernstein s idolization
of Charles. Jed Leiland s flashback is centered on Kane s downfall, and so on.
Throughout these recollections we slowly gather evidence with which to judge

clear perception of the character s inner conflicts. The first occurrence
Charles selfish pride is depicted in a group of cuts with his new wife Emily.

University Of Florida s Online Program
University of Florida s Online Program The University of Florida s (UoF) realization that brick and
mortar schools no longer serve as the only means to attaining a higher education established an
institutional paradigm shift (Kuhn, 2012) on education delivery. The university s evolution of an
online education developed alongside the growth of technology (Blocher, DeMontes, Willis, Tucker,
2002) and the needs of the community (University of Florida, Distance Learning, 2016). For the UoF,
online programs began transforming as early as 1947 when challenged to adapt during world events
such as the need to deliver GED home study courses to nearly 6,000 immigrants (University of
Florida, History, 2016). In years that followed, an increasingly competitive environment (Volery Lord,
2000) led to the video taping of lectures in 1991 and to the online courses and Massive Open Online
Courses (MOOCs) that initiated in 2013. In its early development MOOCs were housed under the
Coursera website since it provided an opportunity to test online courses (Coursera.com, 2016; College
Factual, 2016). Today, the UoF houses both MOOCs and online programs within the Division of
Continuing Education (DCE), which the university established in 2009 and dedicated full time faculty
to it due to the steady growth of online education (University of Florida, Distance and Continuing

The Statue Of The Goddess Sekhmet Analysis
Mistress of peace and of the war cry. Lady of heaven, queen of the gods Great Mut. Creator. Protector.
Lady of joy. Cobra of dread. The vigilant mistress of Karnak. Mighty ruler in her Theban temple. She
whose spirit exists because her temple endures. She whose temple and city will exist for millions of
years 1. This writing comes from a hymn on a stela praising Mut. This stela praising one of the
prominent goddesses of Egypt shows the great praise and proclamations given to their religious
figures. Another such example of Egypt s adoration for their gods is in the statue of Sekhmet, one of
the many other statues found at the Temple of Mut. The statue stands as another representation of not
only Egypt s growing religious movements, but of the growing artistic movements in sculpting as well
and the appreciation the higher powers of Egyptians had on their gods and religion.
The Statue of the Goddess Sekhmet is currently held at the Royal Ontario Museum in the Ancient
Egypt exhibit with the inventory number, 2007. 68. 1. The statue depicts a woman with the head of a
lion, the goddess Sekhmet herself, sitting on a throne and has a broken off muzzle due to age. The
figure sits rigidly on top of a throne, a common depiction of some of the important gods of Egypt.
Originally the statue had held an ankh but had broken off due to age. It was sculpted out of black
granite and stands at 184 centimetres.
The statue was built during the New Kingdom specifically the 18th dynasty

Decision Making Decision Analysis
In chapter 12, the book offered 7 strategies to improve decision making efforts. These strategies were
broken in to two separate groups, the first three are broad sweeping changes, and the last four are
techniques to improve decisions we are making. Managers are measured on the decisions that they are
making. A good manager will know what it takes to make sound, and reasonable decisions. Decisions
define who we are, and they can have profound effects on others, so we must choose wisely when it
comes to the final result. The first strategy, using decision analysis tools, states that we must rely on
procedures to make decisions. A good example of this would be buying a car, we must weigh the
financial obligations with the need for the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the process of using one or more lessons learned to debias our thought process. Tough
decisions can be made when we are faced with similar problems that have a similar outcome.
Focusing on one problem by itself can lead to us only focusing on one aspect of a decision, and
nothing else. Again, this is a trap, and the more we see, the more we can make informed decisions.
Strategy five is take an outsiders view. This states that an outsiders view tends to be less biased and
more generalized, therefore the decisions are somewhat easier. A good example is when we assume
that we can do something better than the last person, only to be surprised that we cannot. Strategy six
is understand bias in others. It is a fact that as leaders we must work with others that make decisions.
We must analyze past decisions, and try to find better ways to do things in the workplace. Leveraging
things like comparisons, estimation, and prediction can all help make more sound decisions. Strategy
seven is make wiser and more ethical decisions. A simple example of this is when a company forces a
manager to look at capabilities over a stereotype, therefore eliminating any bias toward a specific
person or persons. This can lead to better performing staff, and more work

Internalized Oppression And Violence Against Hagar By...
Liberationist, feminist, and womanist theologies aims and goals are not simply to understand biblical
texts and traditions in light of their historical contexts, but to highlight the structures of power that
marginalize and suppress subjects; they also emphasize the effects of these structures on the lives of
the dominated persons. Brazilian Paulo Freire asserts that the oppressed are manifestations of
dehumanization and internalizes their oppression. Consequently, they are divided in and among

Is Cyberbullying as Pervasive and as Dangerous as Physical...
Making nick names by classmates, posting secret photos online by colleagues, or even being slandered

cyberbullying experiences because it occurs more frequently than before. More specifically,
cyberbullying is the use of the Internet, cell phones, or other electronic communication devices to
spread harmful or embarrassing information in the form of text, photos or videos about another
person. Cyberbullying is worse than physical bullying because of its serious consequences, and the
person who suffers the cyberbullying would be hurt mentally by harmful messages, which is more
difficult to cure than physical injury.

Tom s family was devastated by the cyberbullying because they were clueless about the anonymous

to spread and form a vicious circle.
More importantly, cyberbullying has deeper influence than physical bullying because it may involve
in a wide range of audiences within short time period and give high pressure to victims
psychologically. For the traditional physical bullying, it refers to the physical altercations or perhaps
verbal abuse from others, so victims of traditional physical bullying might feel safe at home, which
can be limited the bullying in the place. Even though someone is injured due to physical bullying, the
wound is curable, and won t leave a trace. However, the cyberbullying is a kind of bullying popping
up in cyber space, so the victims can be attacked from anywhere at any time through the network
(Yalda, Psychology in Action), so the victim would leave an incurable shadow. In 2006, an American

researchers made further analysis with 7200 U.S. 6 10th grade students and shows that that The cyber

Alternate Possibilities And Moral Responsibility By Harry...
Alternate Possibilities and Moral Responsibility talks about the principle of alternate possibilities. The
principle of alternate possibilities states that someone is morally responsible if they could have chosen
to do otherwise. People who believe in free will are very supportive of the principle Free will is the
power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate; the ability to act at one s own discretion.
The principle of alternate possibilities, moral responsibility, and free will are all involved in this paper

other Jones and his name was Black. Black is a lurker who watches what Jones 4 does, but Jones 4 is
totally unaware that anyone is watching him. If Jones 4 decided to do what he was going to do then
Black will stay away without making any threats, but if Jones 4 decides to not do what he is going to
do then Black will reveal himself to threaten and force Jones 4 into doing what he had decided not to
do. If Jones 4 decided to do what he was going to do without Black having to intervene in anyway
then that makes Jones 4 morally responsible for since he had chosen to do it himself. If Jones 4 had
decided to not do what he was going to do and Black intervened by threatening and forcing Jones 4
into doing something he initially decided he didn t want to do, that would make Black morally
responsible. In the case of Jones 4, he never really had a choice on whether or not he could or could
not do what he was going to do. Either way he was going to have to do what he was going to do. Jones
4 situation proves the principle of alternate possibilities wrong in the fact that Jones 4 never had a
choice so someone can be morally responsible even without having a choice in the matter, which
Jones 4 never knew he did not have. Harry Frankfurt then presents a revision of the principle of
alternate possibilities. The new principle says that someone is morally responsible for their action if
they did it only because they could not have done otherwise. This revision on the principle of alternate
possibilities made it work for each of the different Jones

The Benefits Of Study Hall
Mark, you won t get anywhere without studying , His mother use to tell him when he use to waist all

As Mark was very satisfied with his results, many other students also express to their parents how
helpful was Study Hall in Cushing Academy.
The same what Study Hall keeps students in their desks from 8:00pm to 10:00 pm, it s a great method
of improving a student s responsibility. When someone is into a routine of doing something every day
at the same time, he gets use to it and sometimes keeps that routine forever. One of the reasons study
hall is done in Cushing is to provide discipline and responsibility to a student in order to study by your
own in College in a near future. It will also make a student keep at least two hours a day to review and
study for college. Keeping time for your studies is a great sign of responsibility. In many aspects,
Study Hall contributes to a great future by providing responsibility and discipline in a student s
studies.
As a great preparation for college, Study Hall is known by helping students to improve their study
skills in a great amount. One of the biggest worries of Mark was that he wouldn t be prepared to do
homework by himself in college, but he was mistaken. Study Hall made him conscious of grades. He
thought of the good colleges he could get in if he had good grades, and the respect and admiration he
could get of teachers and friends. But the problem was how to manage his time to do all of his
homework? But there was Study Hall. A great

Drug Trade In Colombia
In 1970 s, the Colombian poor farmers began planting Marijuana in purpose of an alternative to legal
crops to survive producing. In the 1970 s the Colombian organized crime had been accelerated when
criminal groups tried to cash in on the obsession for cocaine in the United States by importing coca
leaf from Bolivia and Peru into cocaine hydrochloride (HCL) then trafficking it to the United States.
(InSight Crime, n.d.). During the time of Pablo Escobar in 1980 s the first major cocaine cartels
emerged in Medellin cartel and Cali cartel in southwest. (PBS.org, n.d.).

To address the problem, the administration of President Clinton released a National Interest Waiver
that will prevent Colombia from attaining a failing grade. Despite having no chance of averting the
illegal drug trade, Colombia was continued to be given U.S aid in order to prevent increase of trade
(Sweeney, 1995). On the same year, the United States started to implement judgment (PBS.org, n.d.)
on counter narcotics of 29 of the biggest drug producing and drug trade countries. Through that, it was
identified that America is one of the biggest consumer of drugs and Colombia has ranked third in the
consumption per capita in the world. Sweeney mentioned that this might lead to economic reforms
and manipulate the region s weak political and judicial institutions because every state in America has
a severe drug crisis and the drug cartels are influenced by Latin American. Congress should ask for an
explanation on the policy implemented because the United States continue to provide aid to stop
illegal drug trade and support Colombia s economic progress despite no actions initiated by their own
government to address the problem (Sweeney,

Flat Stanley Character Analysis
Flat Stanley
 Have you ever wished that you could wake up one day and have a completely different look? If so,
you may wish you were Stanley Lambchop, an ordinary boy who wakes up one morning looking very
different he is only half an inch thick! Because of a falling bulletin board (which made Stanley flat),
Stanley gets to experience all sorts of fun adventures. Does living a flat life suit Stanley, though? You
will have to read this classic, funny book to find out!
 Flat Stanley would be targeted to my lowest readers. It is quite a preposterous notion to wake up
flat, and the humor will keep my students engaged. While Stanley does have some fun adventures
being flat, at the end of the day, he does not really want to be different. This ... Show more content on

He has been homeschooled all his life, but this year, he is entering a private school down the street
from his New York City apartment. His struggles that year, along with his sister s journey and that of a
few other characters, are chronicled through this book that teaches so much about what it means to be
human and how hard it is to be different and accept others, looking beyond the surface to see the
person underneath.
 I have heard nothing but good things about Wonder, and I would ideally do it as a read aloud. (The
Report Card is pretty short.) It teaches so much about acceptance and looking past the surface to see
the person underneath, and that is what I want my students to do. I have yet to read Wonder, but I
cannot wait until I do. However, I have no doubt that it is an incredible novel to use in the classroom
to help students learn about people who are different.

Pros And Cons Of Government Surveillance
The issue between government surveillance and individual rights has been around for a while now.
Government surveillance is a topic that makes most people feel uncomfortable because the idea of
having someone seeing your every move is disturbing. All though many say that it is for our own
safety it still has several negative outcomes. For example, our personal privacy would be completely
lost, the purchasing of programs and software to see everything would be expensive, and people
would not feel safe due to the fact that they would not know who exactly is seeing their personal
information and what they could do with it.

our fourth amendment. We should not be watched over or looked into without a search warrant this
opposes to our individual rights. In 2001, George W. Bush passed the Patriot Act. This act allowed the
government to interfere with normal American citizens computers or phones without a search warrant.
Those type of searches would occur if a person was accused of being terrorist or being a part of
terrorist actions. Later on in 2015 president Barack Obama got discarded this act because he knew it
was unfair and not right. In 2007 Obama said, I will provide our intelligence and law enforcement
agencies with the tools they need to track and take out the terrorists without undermining our
Constitution and our freedom. That means no more illegal wiretapping of American citizens. No more
national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime. No more tracking citizens
who do nothing more than protest a misguided war. No more ignoring the law when it is inconvenient

Basic Nursing Care in Pressure Sore Prevention Essay
Introduction For many hundreds of years, pressure sores have been recognized clinically. Throughout
this time different pedagogies have been explicated to prevent patients from developing pressure sores
(R. J. G. Halfens M. Eggink 1995). What is more, less is known about the effectiveness of these
methods. On account of this observation the author opted to recapitulate the fundamental care of
preventing pressure sores among high risk individuals in a nursing home setting. Search Strategies

Patients get a pressure ulcer for a legion of rationalities. According to Alene Burke of Nursing
Assistant Education, some of the elements why people get them which she cited from Nettina, S.
(2009), are old age, deficient mobility, lack of moisture, and insufficient diet. Moreover, factors like
neurological and other physical problems, friction and shearing, bed and chairs with wrinkled linens
or hard objects and pressure ulcers in the past may similarly predispose pressure ulcer. This
observations implies that in nursing care pressure ulcers are prospected as negligence, however it is
arrogated that pressure ulcers are avoidable on the condition that prime level of care is continuously
rendered to patients and residents. (Burke 2010). Working in a healthcare domain means providing the
most effective and beneficial care for the incompetent patients. Particularly, to those who needs
intimate nursing assistance such as dressing, bathing, eating, toileting and skin care activities (
Wurster 2007).This is especially true if the person is mentally, emotionally, and physically dependent
like the clients in nursing homes. Nurses, health care assistants or support workers and other health
care providers ought to educate themselves for improving quality of care and exceeding specific
benchmarks in regards to pressure sores ( Wurster 2007). All the same the basic

Kant and Equality
KANT AND EQUALITY Some readers of this essay will have become impatient by now; because
they believe that the problem that perplexes me has been definitively solved by Immanuel Kant. It is
certainly true that Kant held strong opinions on this matter. In an often quoted passage, he reports a
personal conversion from elitism: I am myself a researcher by inclination. I feel the whole thirst for
knowledge and the eager unrest to move further on into it, also satisfaction with each acquisition.
There was a time when I thought this alone could constitute the honor of humanity and despised the
know nothing rabble. Rousseau set me straight. This delusory superiority vanishes, I learn to honor

Individuals who equally have the capacity to set an end may well differ in the quality of their end
setting performances. Some are able to set ends more reasonably than others. But these differences in
performance do not gainsay the fundamental equal capacity. It is just that having a high or low level of
associated capacities enables or impedes successful performance. So the fact that individuals differ in
their abilities to do arithmetic and more complex mathematical operations that affect their ability to
make rational choices should have no tendency to obscure the more basic and morally status
conferring equality in the capacity of each person to make choices. In response: First of all, if several
of these no degree capacities were relevant to moral status, one must possess all to be at the top status,
and some individuals possess more and others fewer of the relevant capacities, a problem of hierarchy,
though perhaps a manageable one, would emerge anew. More important, I doubt there is a plausible
no degree capacity that can do the work this argument assigns to it. Take the capacity to set ends and
make choices. Consider a being that has little brain power, but over the course of its life can set just a
few ends and make just a few choices based on considering two or three simple alternatives. It sets
one end (lunch, now) per decade three times over the course of its life. If there is

How Did Doyle Write The Hound Of The Baskervilles
Arthur Conan Doyle s Beliefs that Impact his Writing Arthur Conan Doyle believed in the paranormal
realms. That belief has helped inspire The Hound of the Baskervilles. In 1901, Doyle went on a
vacation with his friend, Fletcher Robinson, who first told him about the legend of the hound from
Dartmoor, Devonshire (Major 862). In the same year Doyle wrote The Hound of the Baskervilles,
which he called a real creeper based on the legend (Major 862). Sherlock Holmes was put in as an
afterthought, possibly because of the pressure Doyle felt from fans for Doyle s killing Holmes (Major
862). The Hound in The Hound of the Baskervilles is portrayed as a frightening being, who kills
because of the Baskerville family curse. Although hellhounds ... Show more content on

Essay on Homelessness
Homelessness is a serious problem in our society. Every night in our nation thousands of people are on
the streets. This type of behavior is considered deviant because it does not reflect the norms and values
of our society. In many cases the homeless people in our country are treated as total outcasts. Many of
these people have severe mental disorders. Some are victims of an economy that has failed them. One
may ask how such harsh situations exist in such an advanced society. With all the money and
programs created to help people it seems ridiculous that this behavior exists. In a society where people
have so much how is it possible that there are still people that have so little. The homeless are humans,
no different than anyone else. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These things are taken for granted by the people who have them. These seem as necessities for most
adults, but even more so for children. Children that do not have homes grow up at risk for diseases
that are not a threat to the general part of the nation. Illnesses such as whooping cough or tuberculosis
that seem so rare in society are commonly found in homeless shelters. These children have not been
given their vaccines over the years and therefore are not allowed to attend school. The homeless
children that do attend school are sometimes as far behind as two grade levels. Many of the children
are very hungry and tired which makes it almost impossible for them to concentrate. Other children
are embarrassed to go to school because the other children know their situation and ridicule them.
Sometimes a teacher might even keep away from a child that they believe to be dirty or may be sick.
Most of these children are. They do not smell good because they do not take baths. They grow up
being outcasts (Connolly, 2000). The National Health Care for the Homeless project showed that
children up to twelve years of age that are homeless, are twice as likely to come down with an ear or
upper respiratory infection. They are three times as likely to have a gastrointestinal problem and four
times as likely to have a skin problem and ten times more likely to have bad teeth. For children
thirteen to nineteen there

Questions On Criminal Procedure Code
4.12 Section 433 Criminal Procedure Code Power to commute sentence
Referring, to pardon it means to forgive a person of his offence. The word pardon has been defined as
an act of grace, advancing from the power assigned with the execution of the law, which excuses the
individual on whom it is conferred upon, from the punishment the law imposes for a crime he has
committed. It affects both the punishment proposed for the offence and the guilt of the offender.
In other words, grant of pardon wipes off the guilt of accused and brings him to the original position
of innocence as if he had never committed the offence for which he was charged. Under Indian law,
the President of India and the Governors of States have been given the power to grant pardons,
reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence. The law
governing grant of pardon is contained in Articles 72 and 161 of the Constitution.
4.12(1) Granting of pardon may be of two kinds.
Absolute
Absolute pardon may mark out the guilt itself. It does not lead to an acquittal unless the Court directs.
The accused is discharged permanently without demanding any condition to be fulfilled.
Conditional
In conditional pardon, the offender is let off subject to certain conditions. The violation of these
conditions will lead to renewal of his sentence and he shall be exposed to the unexhausted portion of
his punishment.

Thoughts and Ideas on Saphire s quot;Push quot; Essay
The book entitled Push , written by Sapphire, is one of the most shocking books that I have ever read.
The story revolves around the life of one Precious Jones. Her life is scarred with rape, molestation,
pregnancy, poverty, the HIV virus, illiteracy, and countless other instances which could be classified
as unfortunate. My initial reaction to this novel was that I couldn t believe that all of these bad things
can happen to one person. It seemed that as the text progressed, we found out more troubling details of
Precious life. At the begging in it was tough to fully comprehend what was being said, as Precious
writing included allot of misspelled words, unnecessary words, repetitiveness, and often times words
used in an incorrect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another factor in her perseverance was her friend from the alternative school by the name of
Jermaine. Precious was inspred by Jermaine in many ways. Jermaine was a good friend and also was
one of the best writers in the Each One, Teach One classes.
Also, when thinking about the determination of Precious, I remember a small detail that changed from
the beginning of the novel. Early on in the story, Precious says Reeboks, white! Better than Nikes?
No, next shits I get be Nikes!. Towards the end of the novel Precious then says I look up from my
shoes, Nikes; girls got they hand up.. Now I know, that something as small as a pair of shoes shouldn t
really be important in a story full of all of many achievements, however, I feel that these statements
were really important. Its was something that was significant of Precious coming up through the
world, even if her circumstances were far more sever than many other human beings.
Another theme that I noticed throughout the book, was the idea of people being brainwashed by their
society. This idea will also be present in the readings for next week as I will be reading The Shawl. In
that book, the people being brainwashed are the citizens of nazi Germany, while in this present novel,
the people being brainwashed are the people of Harlem, a ghetto in New York. The people of the

brought many changes to Europe, the economy was greatly boosted by of all the new explorations.
The flourishing economy helped to inspire new developments in art and literature. And from that

Michaelango painted the Sistine Chapel, which is located in the Vatican in Rome. The Sistine Chapel

With the arts the artists began to think on their own and those movements began to spread. It was not
just what the church said anymore that was right. Humanism, one of the new beliefs which was
formed during the Renaissance, said that people should read the works of the greats and focus on
writing, and the arts. Humanists believed that they were equal with the ancient Greek and Roman
writers and philosophers. Petrarch was the original humanist, and a writer who wrote many letters to
the people of ancient Rome. In those letters he spoke as if he was an equal with them. Another of the
new beliefs was scholasticism, which was the opposite of humanism. Scholastics thought that people
should spend more time the sciences, they also wanted the church and science to be brought together

questioned.
Some of the new scientific discoveries consisted of theories which went against the churches beliefs.

  • 3. Landfill In The Film Wasteland, By Vik Muniz The movie Wasteland takes us on a journey to a landfill located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian artist, Vik Muniz, uses his skills to construct pieces of art from recyclable materials and expresses a strong message through his portraits. Let us explore the lives of those wonderful people who were touched by the beauty of trash. A movie exploring through a landfill may not seem interesting, but once Vik makes his appearance, things get a lot more fascinating. Vik for instance, is an unusual artist who makes some of his art from garbage and in his film he has a vision to change the lives of the pickers in Brazil. He travels to Brazil from New York and meets several people who work in the landfill. Throughout his journey he receives insight on what it s like to work in a landfill and how it has affected the lives of these people. Of the 2 years of being there, he takes pictures of a landfill, and several of the pickers, and composes many large portraits made of recyclables. As a result, he takes a trip to London where one of his garbage portraits are getting auctioned off. He dotates all of the money to the pickers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To make it even better, he uses the principles of emphasis, which would be the figure because when you first look at the portrait, the first thing that catches your eye is the figure. Unlike how many people perceive killer whales,Tilikum was a gentle giant. He was born just right of the cost of British Columbia and was part of a loving community of other killer whales. Tilikum was an eccentric, playful, and docile baby whale. He would swim for days with his pack, playing around with the other baby whales and cuddling up with his parents whom he loved so much. All of that changed the day he was taken away from his pack by a group of ruthless humans. The goal is to produce water fit for a specific purpose. Most water is purified for human consumption (drinking water), but water purification may also be designed for a variety of other purposes, including meeting the requirements of medical, pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. In general the methods used include physical processes such as filtration, sedimentation, and distillation, biological processes such as slow sand filters or biologically active carbon, chemical processes such asflocculation and chlorination and the use of electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet ... Deep ground water is generally of very high bacteriological quality (i.e., pathogenic bacteria or the pathogenic protozoa are typically absent), but the water may be rich in dissolved solids, especiallycarbonates and sulfates of calcium and magnesium. Depending on the strata through which the water has flowed, other ions may also be present including chloride, and bicarbonate. There may be a requirement to reduce the iron or manganese content of this water to make it acceptable for drinking, cooking, and laundry use. Primary disinfection may also be required. Where groundwater recharge is practised (a process in which river water is injected into an aquifer to store the water in times of plenty so that it is available in times of drought), the groundwater may require additional treatment depending on applicable state and federal regulations. 2. • 6. The Reflection Of Teamwork In The Nursing Team I always knew that teamwork makes the most difficult work easier. Working in a team has always been a great experience for me. I like the fact that the nursing program makes us work in a team. I have been working in a different team in my several other classes such as Microbiology, Anatomy and English including HPR. I have been enjoying working as a team with my different classmates. Learning has been a fun as a team. With regard to the nursing course, HPR is one of the subjects in which I have been assigned with my other four classmates to work for the team project presentation. My other four classmates named Brittani C., Ashely, Brittani M., and Mich worked together for a group presentation of the nosocomial disease. The main objective of our group is to create awareness regarding one of the nosocomial disease called MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). The learning experience with a group was effective in a way that the tasks were divided among four of us. The task was divided in a way that each one of us was responsible for the research of required information. Research was divided into statistic, case study, sign and symptoms, risk factors and prevention measures. All five of us picked one topic to research. My role in the team was to find the supporting information regarding symptoms. Nevertheless, we worked in a team to find all the required information needed to support our presentation. Working on a team and contributing as a valuable member of the team is very important for the success of the team. We worked as a strong team in the lead of Mich who provided us a clear division of task and maintained strong communication within the team member. As a valuable member of the team, I also helped my team by collecting required information about MRSA, making posters for the presentation and participating in every meeting. I also made sure that information regarding meetings and agenda to be discussed was well understood by the group. I completed my role by participating in group discussion regarding our presentation topic, required information on a topic and preparing the presentation material. However, the success of our team is the result of our teamwork and collaboration. Teamwork ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Political Interest Of Madagascar Madagascar has always been of great political interest to many countries and governments. It seems a suitable island that is out of the way, but it is in the centre of everything at the same time. People are very unsuspecting of it, and it was the same in World War 2 as well... The Germans and the rest of the Axis had very good reasons for wanting to control Madagascar. The first is that they were going to use this remote island as a place to deport some of the remaining 10,000 Jewish refugees still in France that had not been able to find a home in South Africa or Brazil. The French were not the only ones suffering though; the Polish and the Germans really need to get the Jews out as well. However like many of the other Nazi ideologies, it was not a new one. A lot of British, Polish and Dutch anti Semites had been considering the idea to move the Jews there since as early as 1878. Luckily for Nazis, Madagascar was under the control and within the empire of Vichy France (the part of France that had surrendered to Hitler), and according to the surrender terms, France had to let the Germans into Madagascar as well. It was going to be easy. Not only would it get rid of the Jews, but it would also help the Axis financially as the Jews were currently surviving on charity. In May 1936, there was a new French administration voted in, and there was serious talk of the Jews being moved there, and they even went as far as to investigate the island to check if it was liable for that ... • 8. Tuck Everlasting Motifs Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three continuous motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif because of the several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the development of theme in Tuck Everlasting by using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies. First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the following reasons included in Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a pass me by look, the road knows where to go, and the Tucks look the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best motif used in the book. Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time is: Everything s a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. But never the same ones. Always coming in new, always growing and changing, and always moving on. That s the way it s supposed to be. That s the way it is. Angus Tuck is talking about the wheel of life. That time moves on. People are growing and changing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this rowboat now, it s stuck. That s when the motif Fantasy comes in. The Tuck s are immortal now. People can t actually be immortal. They can t be dropped off of the wheel of life. During this time, he has witnessed the introduction of new technologies while countless others have gone obsolete. Although Fogle possesses several years of proven industry experience, his career path does not reflect his performance or skills. In fact, Fogle s career has tended to move on a downward slope. Originally a member of the Engineering department, Fogle has found himself serving within progressively lesser roles. Twenty years ago, Fogle served as an area support manager and coordinated technical service and support over the Southeast region. Fifteen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary, stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). A 2001 survey illustrates the disparity in both staffing and average salaries for IT professionals. This survey consisted of 3,629 total respondents, of which 40 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay on Mutual Mistake Abstract Mutual Mistake of fact is when both parties of a contract make an assumption of fact when contract is formed and signed. The mistake must significantly change what you have to do under the contract, almost to the point where it s an entirely different agreement. Although, if you knew there was a strong chance or probability of mistake at the time the contract was signed, you may have assumed the risk of that mistake. You therefore cannot use the mutual mistake defense. Not all cases of Mutual Mistake are strong enough to void a contract. Contract Law: Mistake of Fact In the given case: Josh Hartly was interested in purchasing a new car and visits his local auto dealer. In the course of his negotiations, he tells the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (LaMance, 2011) It is absolutely agreeable that in these types of situations that a contract be deemed void from a mutual mistake of fact. If, for example, someone was contacted to dig a whole in someone s backyard but after the contract had been signed both parties had found out that under a thin layer of dirt was solid rock, a mutual mistake of fact could make the contract void since neither party knew of the rock under the surface. If a mutual mistake defense was not possible then the person contracted to dig the whole would have to dig the whole under any circumstance and run the risk of destroying their equipment and/or having to spend more money for equipment capable of doing the job. In the case of John Harlty neither party acted unethically. Though one could argue that the salesperson should of known that the manufacturer was to stop production on cars with either a 3.2 liter and 3.9 liter V6 engine and begin production on a new model with a 3.5 liter engine before trying to sell a discontinued car to a customer. This would make it a unilateral mistake of fact because the salesperson had a reason to know of the mistake and it was his fault that led to the mistake (Emanuel, 2011). University Of Florida s Online Program University of Florida s Online Program The University of Florida s (UoF) realization that brick and mortar schools no longer serve as the only means to attaining a higher education established an institutional paradigm shift (Kuhn, 2012) on education delivery. The university s evolution of an online education developed alongside the growth of technology (Blocher, DeMontes, Willis, Tucker, 2002) and the needs of the community (University of Florida, Distance Learning, 2016). For the UoF, online programs began transforming as early as 1947 when challenged to adapt during world events such as the need to deliver GED home study courses to nearly 6,000 immigrants (University of Florida, History, 2016). In years that followed, an increasingly competitive environment (Volery Lord, 2000) led to the video taping of lectures in 1991 and to the online courses and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that initiated in 2013. In its early development MOOCs were housed under the Coursera website since it provided an opportunity to test online courses (Coursera.com, 2016; College Factual, 2016). Today, the UoF houses both MOOCs and online programs within the Division of Continuing Education (DCE), which the university established in 2009 and dedicated full time faculty to it due to the steady growth of online education (University of Florida, Distance and Continuing Education, 2016). This writing comes from a hymn on a stela praising Mut. This stela praising one of the prominent goddesses of Egypt shows the great praise and proclamations given to their religious figures. Another such example of Egypt s adoration for their gods is in the statue of Sekhmet, one of the many other statues found at the Temple of Mut. The statue stands as another representation of not only Egypt s growing religious movements, but of the growing artistic movements in sculpting as well and the appreciation the higher powers of Egyptians had on their gods and religion. The Statue of the Goddess Sekhmet is currently held at the Royal Ontario Museum in the Ancient Egypt exhibit with the inventory number, 2007. 68. 1. The statue depicts a woman with the head of a lion, the goddess Sekhmet herself, sitting on a throne and has a broken off muzzle due to age. • 16. Decision Making Decision Analysis In chapter 12, the book offered 7 strategies to improve decision making efforts. These strategies were broken in to two separate groups, the first three are broad sweeping changes, and the last four are techniques to improve decisions we are making. Managers are measured on the decisions that they are making. A good manager will know what it takes to make sound, and reasonable decisions. Decisions define who we are, and they can have profound effects on others, so we must choose wisely when it comes to the final result. The first strategy, using decision analysis tools, states that we must rely on procedures to make decisions. This is the process of using one or more lessons learned to debias our thought process. Tough decisions can be made when we are faced with similar problems that have a similar outcome. Focusing on one problem by itself can lead to us only focusing on one aspect of a decision, and nothing else. Again, this is a trap, and the more we see, the more we can make informed decisions. Strategy five is take an outsiders view. This states that an outsiders view tends to be less biased and more generalized, therefore the decisions are somewhat easier. A good example is when we assume that we can do something better than the last person, only to be surprised that we cannot. Strategy six is understand bias in others. It is a fact that as leaders we must work with others that make decisions. We must analyze past decisions, and try to find better ways to do things in the workplace. Leveraging things like comparisons, estimation, and prediction can all help make more sound decisions. Strategy seven is make wiser and more ethical decisions. A simple example of this is when a company forces a manager to look at capabilities over a stereotype, therefore eliminating any bias toward a specific person or persons. So the fact that individuals differ in their abilities to do arithmetic and more complex mathematical operations that affect their ability to make rational choices should have no tendency to obscure the more basic and morally status conferring equality in the capacity of each person to make choices. In response: First of all, if several of these no degree capacities were relevant to moral status, one must possess all to be at the top status, and some individuals possess more and others fewer of the relevant capacities, a problem of hierarchy, though perhaps a manageable one, would emerge anew. The word pardon has been defined as an act of grace, advancing from the power assigned with the execution of the law, which excuses the individual on whom it is conferred upon, from the punishment the law imposes for a crime he has committed. It affects both the punishment proposed for the offence and the guilt of the offender. In other words, grant of pardon wipes off the guilt of accused and brings him to the original position of innocence as if he had never committed the offence for which he was charged. Under Indian law, the President of India and the Governors of States have been given the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence. The law governing grant of pardon is contained in Articles 72 and 161 of the Constitution. 4.12(1) Granting of pardon may be of two kinds. Absolute Absolute pardon may mark out the guilt itself. It does not lead to an acquittal unless the Court directs. The accused is discharged permanently without demanding any condition to be fulfilled. Conditional In conditional pardon, the offender is let off subject to certain conditions. The violation of these conditions will lead to renewal of his sentence and he shall be exposed to the unexhausted portion of his punishment. 4.12(2) Jurisprudence of Granting pardon The philosophy ... • 32. Thoughts and Ideas on Saphire s quot;Push quot; Essay The book entitled Push , written by Sapphire, is one of the most shocking books that I have ever read. The story revolves around the life of one Precious Jones. Her life is scarred with rape, molestation, pregnancy, poverty, the HIV virus, illiteracy, and countless other instances which could be classified as unfortunate. My initial reaction to this novel was that I couldn t believe that all of these bad things can happen to one person. It seemed that as the text progressed, we found out more troubling details of Precious life. At the begging in it was tough to fully comprehend what was being said, as Precious writing included allot of misspelled words, unnecessary words, repetitiveness, and often times words used in an incorrect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another factor in her perseverance was her friend from the alternative school by the name of Jermaine. Precious was inspred by Jermaine in many ways. Jermaine was a good friend and also was one of the best writers in the Each One, Teach One classes. Also, when thinking about the determination of Precious, I remember a small detail that changed from the beginning of the novel. Early on in the story, Precious says Reeboks, white! Better than Nikes? No, next shits I get be Nikes!. Towards the end of the novel Precious then says I look up from my shoes, Nikes; girls got they hand up.. Now I know, that something as small as a pair of shoes shouldn t really be important in a story full of all of many achievements, however, I feel that these statements were really important. Its was something that was significant of Precious coming up through the world, even if her circumstances were far more sever than many other human beings. Another theme that I noticed throughout the book, was the idea of people being brainwashed by their society. This idea will also be present in the readings for next week as I will be reading The Shawl. In that book, the people being brainwashed are the citizens of nazi Germany, while in this present novel, the people being brainwashed are the people of Harlem, a ghetto in New York. The people of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
