I gave this talk at Cluj Innovation Days 2016, "Cluj Innovation Days (CID) is annual event organized by Cluj IT Cluster aiming at consolidating the IT sector and creating new innovation based bridges among businesses, academia and the public sector" (http://clujinnovationdays.com/). This year, the themes of the conference were Digital Medicine and Digital Governance. My presentation had a few goals: offer an overview of digital health, point out why all stakeholders have a role to play and why interdisciplinary and cross sector collaborations are key ingredients. I could only hope it inspired and instigated involvement. I believe Central and Eastern Europe is on an innovation wave, as need, skills and opportunities start to come together. In turn, I was impressed and inspired by Cluj and its entrepreneurial vibe.

Something happened in Silicon Valley. Tech firms stopped just making software for industry to buy, and decided instead to use software to enter new markets. Companies such as Amazon, Uber, and Netflix have marched into mainstream industries, backed by data-driven learning machines. As Marc Andreessen famously said, software is eating the world. How do you keep on the winning side of this change? The secret is in how you view and exploit data.

Networked Medicine: Health, Personal Data and the Social WebLuminary Labs
Presentation made on June 24, 2010 at Social Media Brasil, Sao Paulo, by Sara Holoubek, CEO and founder of Luminary Labs.
Advertising and community is just the tip of the social web promise. The social web represents a database of connections, demos and behaviors. When mined, this data can be beneficial to both the users and for business.
In this specific case, we speak to concept of networked medicine, referencing the work of Nicholas Christakis, which observed the spread of obesity in a large social network. In short, social connections can have a greater influence in disease spread than genes do.
As a result, healthcare companies that spend billions studying the correlation between molecules now need to spend resources studying the connections between individuals, and the community at large.

Repurpose Your Career - 5 Steps to your Next Career PivotCareer Pivot
Whether you are a Baby Boomer, Gen Xer or Millennial retirement like your parents had is no longer a possibility for most. Everyone will have to go through career changes or Career Pivots. This webinar will focus on 5 Steps to a Career Pivot
Step 1
Know Thyself. Take time to understand your core needs like autonomy, creativity and your own definition of a good team. Use past jobs to point to what you love and hate. Many Baby Boomers and Gen Xers have morphed into versions of themselves in order to fit comfortably in corporate America so that they really don’t know themselves anymore. Spend time crafting an elevator pitch that explains who you really are and what you really want.
Everyone can learn a lot about themselves through assessments (Birkman, MBTI, Kolbe, DISC,..), moments of clarity (read my book) and career reflection
Step 2
Build your tribe. Who can you count on for help and support in this transition? Who is going to pick up your spirits when you slip and fall? Build a team around you and keep in touch with them.
Step 3
Act on facts, not assumptions. Often we think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence but when we get there we find out it’s Astroturf. You need to turn off assumptions and really research new opportunities.
Step 4
Learn how to network strategically. Using social media tools like LinkedIn and Twitter you can target individuals that you need to meet and develop relationships. When you network, do it strategically and share your new elevator pitch.
Step 5
Learn to ask for help. Yes, I am a guy. I do not like asking for directions. But you’re heading into new territory and no one succeeds at a career pivot without others’ help. Set aside your claims to status and your pride in order to reach for something new where you may now be the rookie. This is hard at first, but it gets easier.

Crowd Sourcing Information From Your Members
Wednesday, July 23 – 1:15pm-2:15pm
By tapping into the wisdom of your membership through crowdsourcing, you could have access to an almost unlimited supply of ideas for getting your association’s message across on your website. Not only that, but crowdsourcing could enable you to disseminate your messages to a larger number of current and potential members. Members who are involved in content have more ownership and are more likely to share that content with their own networks.
Ed Schipul will take the audience through the fundamentals of how to use crowdsourcing to give a boost to their organization’s website content. He’ll give practical tips on:
-How to recruit and maintain guest contributors, bloggers and photographers
-The best ways to collect stories from members and turn them into content
-How to use your people on video to tell your story (i.e. volunteers, board)
-Using social media to collect ideas/stories
-Maintaining an editorial calendar and accountability
Throughout the presentation, Schipul will provide plenty of real-word examples of how crowdsourcing works to use the wisdom of your membership to disseminate your message.
The audience will learn:
-How leveraging content from members, or “crowdsourcing,” can make their job easier.
-How crowdsourcing encourages members to share their association’s message.
-Best practices for recruiting and maintaining guest contributors, bloggers and photographers.
-Best practices for collecting stories from members and turning them into content.
-Best practices for featuring their members on video to tell your association’s story.
-How to use social media to collect ideas and stories.
-How to maintain an editorial calendar and accountability.

By 2016, VR was the definitive tech media darling, promising the ability to not just replicate an experience, but to convince people of the validity of alternate realities. Venture funding flowed, content studios proliferated, and hardware launch dates were eagerly anticipated. Fast forward to 2017 and the equipment is still bulky and expensive, UX issues like nausea persist, and key immersive elements like haptic feedback and social interaction are still primitive. While some experiences are transformative, others underwhelm; market reports vary wildly on future investment and revenue projections.

Women in Tech: How to Build A Human CompanyLuminary Labs
We often think about design in terms of product or service strategy, but what about the design of companies? In the words of Phin Barnes of First Round Capital: “Entrepreneurs are the designers of companies. Great startup CEOs recognize very early that their job is not to build a product, but to build a company — defined by mission, values, and culture.”
Recently, organizations large and small have radically rethought company design by embracing employee-favorable policies such as establishing livable wages, developing creative equity plans, offering paid parental leave policies, and even pulling out of an entire state in protest of discrimination. In addition to sending a strong signal that people come first, these organizations are also making an economic argument to investors that employee-friendly policies pay dividends in reduced turnover and improved business outcome.
In this talk, Sara Holoubek, CEO of Luminary Labs, shares the forces behind this sea change as well as practical examples from companies featured in The Human Company Playbook, including Plated, Etsy, Pinterest, and General Assembly.

But what about small companies, and what about startups? The playbook aims to answer just that.

In April 2015, Luminary Labs gathered convened Lab Session #2 to discuss The Human Company. Over the past 12 months, multiple corporations have radically rethought how they do business by establishing livable wages, developing creative equity plans, offering paid parental leave policies, and even pulling out of an entire state in protest of discrimination. In addition to sending a strong signal that people come first, these organizations are also making an economic argument to investors that employee-favorable policies pay dividends in reduced turnover and improved business outcome.

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.
The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system
It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder
Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen
A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ).
It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes
It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics
Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS
