Hazard communication involves communicating chemical hazards to employees through labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and training. Key aspects of hazard communication include identifying chemical hazards using labels on containers and MSDS sheets, which provide information on safe handling, health effects, and emergency procedures. It is everyone's responsibility to safely handle chemicals and understand this hazard information.

The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is designed to improve health and safety protection for workers who handle chemicals. Although the deadline for training employees was December 1, 2013, many businesses have not adequately prepared their employees to understand the new labels.

Welcome to the online WHMIS training for SickKids Foundation. Your task is to go through the presentation and learn a bit more about the WHMIS program and the Health and Safety legislation that is important to know. Once you've gone through the presentation, there is a brief quiz to ensure that you've gained the knowledge you need through this training exercise. If you have any questions/concerns, please contact the HR department.
OSHA Hazard Communication and Global Harmonization System (GHS)Elena Fracassa
This training explains the recent changes to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, including compliance with the Global Harmonization System of hazard identification, container labeling, and Safety Data Sheets.
Many work situations routinely rely upon chemicals to get the work done. But just as important as the safe handling of these chemicals, is their safe storage. If not stored properly, chemicals can cause a fire, explosion or personal injury. In order to prevent workplace chemical-related accidents, facilities must follow common sense and real safe storage procedures.

Every employee has the right to know what chemicals and hazards they work with every day. This training provides workers and supervisors and management with a basic understanding of OSHA's Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) requirements for every workplace: a written HAZCOM program, training, inventory, material safety data sheets, and labels.
Chemical Safety Guidelines with hazard and risk controlsDecentN
This course briefly covers chemical hazard and risk associated with appropriate safety controls. This presentation also cover chemical labeling and classification as per GHS system.
2. Hazard Communication
• Hazard communication involves the
communication of hazards about chemicals to
employees.
• Hazard communication is also known as the
“Right to Know”
• It is the responsibility of everyone to handle
chemical safely, understand chemical labels and
understand the Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS)
3. Your “Right to Know”
1. MSDS
2. Labeling
3. Written policy
4. Chemical inventory
5. Training and safety awareness
4. MSDS
The information includes:
- Chemical name
- Emergency and first aid procedure
- Safe handling
- Health and physical hazards
- Date of preparation of MSDS
- Control measures
- PEL or the Permissible Exposure Limit
6. LABELING
The label must have the following:
- The chemical name
- Hazards of the chemical
- Manufacturer’s name and address
Unlabeled containers should never be used.
You should never remove a label from a container.
