This document provides an overview of the Internet of Things (IoT) and introduces DeviceHive as an open-source M2M communication framework for IoT projects. DeviceHive addresses common IoT project problems such as implementing device logic and communication infrastructure by providing libraries, server deployment options, and APIs. It also includes features for device, data, and user management. Examples of using DeviceHive include controlling Philips Hue lights with Google Glass and analyzing energy consumption data for a utility company. The document provides more information on DeviceHive's website and upcoming training events.

Praveen Nayak, Tech Lead at PathPartner Technology, presents the "Using Deep Learning for Video Event Detection on a Compute Budget" tutorial at the May 2019 Embedded Vision Summit.
Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have made tremendous strides in object detection and recognition in recent years. However, extending the CNN approach to understanding of video or volumetric data poses tough challenges, including trade-offs between representation quality and computational complexity, which is of particular concern on embedded platforms with tight computational budgets. This presentation explores the use of CNNs for video understanding.
Nayak reviews the evolution of deep representation learning methods involving spatio- temporal fusion from C3D to Conv-LSTMs for vision-based human activity detection. He proposes a decoupled alternative to this fusion, describing an approach that combines a low-complexity predictive temporal segment proposal model and a fine-grained (perhaps high- complexity) inference model. PathPartner Technology finds that this hybrid approach, in addition to reducing computational load with minimal loss of accuracy, enables effective solutions to these high complexity inference tasks.
Here we study the channel capacity of the signal from analog and digital communication signals. Also study data rates limit , Noisy-channel coding theorem, Shannon capacity theorem.

“A new data type called a “posit” is designed for direct drop-in replacement for IEEE Standard 754 floats. Unlike unum arithmetic, posits do not require interval-type mathematics or variable size operands, and they round if an answer is inexact, much the way floats do. However, they provide compelling advantages over floats, including simpler hardware implementation that scales from as few as two-bit operands to thousands of bits. For any bit width, they have a larger dynamic range, higher accuracy, better closure under arithmetic operations, and simpler exception-handling. For example, posits never overflow to infinity or underflow to zero, and there is no “Not-a-Number” (NaN) value. Posits should take up less space to implement in silicon than an IEEE float of the same size. With fewer gate delays per operation as well as lower silicon footprint, the posit operations per second (POPS) supported by a chip can be significantly higher than the FLOPs using similar hardware resources. GPU accelerators, in particular, could do more arithmetic per watt and per dollar yet deliver superior answer quality.”

Building a reliable and scalable IoT platform with MongoDB and HiveMQDominik Obermaier
Today’s Internet of Things (IoT) is enabling companies to blend together the physical and digital worlds, creating new business models and generating insights that increase productivity at once unimaginable levels. However, managing the ever growing volume of heterogeneous IoT data from disparate devices, systems and applications both on premise and in the cloud can be a challenging endeavour without a scalable and reliable IoT platform.
In this webinar, we will explore why and how companies are leveraging HiveMQ and MongoDB to build exactly that: a scalable and reliable IoT platform. Based upon a sample fleet management scenario, we will explain how telematics data can be routed via MQTT and efficiently stored to provide analytics and insights into the data.
Key Learnings
- Common challenges and pitfalls of IoT projects
- Required components for effectively handling data with an IoT platform
- HiveMQ for MQTT to enable bi-directional device communication over unstable networks
- MongoDB as the flexible and scalable modern data platform combining data from different sources and powering your applications
- Why MongoDB and HiveMQ is such a great combination

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
