1) Ciklum Biowave Lab develops hardware reference architectures for prototyping IoT and biomedical solutions. This includes a hardware reference platform for measuring and recording various sensor data.
2) One project developed an implantable system to restore blinking in patients with facial nerve paralysis using algorithms to detect blinking and a video analysis system.
3) Another project created a functional prototype for a portable vital signs monitor to measure ECG and blood oxygen levels for a children's cardiology center.
7. 7
• Record data from variety of sensors (accelerometer,
gyroscope, ECG, EMG etc.)
• High quality of recorded signals
• Possibility to analyze and store data on the board
• Possibility to add functionality through external modules
Hardware reference platform
8. 8
• System will restore blinking activity in the damaged part of the face
where facial nerves are not able to force blinking
• Biowave Labs implemented Algorithms for data preprocessing and
analysis, and method for blinking detection, as well as software
development
• Development of video analysis algorithms for automated
quantification of eye closure
• In July, 2015 the “Implantable Bioelectrical System for Restoration of
Blinking” was awarded with the Politzer Prize and Gold Medal for
Basic Science Research in Otology at the 1st World Congress of
Otology in Japan

• Infrastructure for control and information exchange between Smart Home devices,
• Setting up unified environment for devices based on Apple HomeKit and other
vendors,
• Framework for devices access and living scenarios implementation in HomeKit,
OpenHAB and based on Google Brillo,
• Using of custom and standard applications and design of compatible devices

Controlling smart home devices using voice
Amazon Echo is a hands-free speaker you control
with your voice. Echo connects to the Alexa Voice
Service to play music, provide information, news,
sports scores, weather, and more-instantly. Its
ready-to-use technology but still quite raw all you
need to do is to write a custom skill to do any
action you want, e.g. you are saying: “Alexa, ask
lamp switcher to set lamp color to green!”
15. 15
Pedestrian Tracking
The smart IP camera with pedestrian tracking
technology could be used within shopping malls
for traffic counting, crowd monitoring and
business intelligence with the back-end servers
being freed up to perform data mining and data
collection. The technology could sooner or later
become integrated into consumer video
monitoring solutions.
16. 16
Face Recognition
Convolutional neural networks applied for the face
recognition purposes could be used for door smart
locks and security systems.
Face recognition technique combining with e.g.
fingerprint scanner could increase security level and
permissions given.

The problem
Cardiovascular disease is the leading global cause of death,
accounting for 17.3 million deaths per year, a number that is
expected to grow to more than 23.6 million by 2030.

U.S. Cardiac Arrest: Statistics
•SCA is the most frequent (#1) killer of adults in the
U.S.
•Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) causes 350,000
deaths per year (approximately one every 1.7
minutes). Source: American Heart Association
(AHA)
•47% of sudden cardiac deaths occur outside a
hospital.
22. 22
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
•Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can
increase the chance of surviving SCA by 70%.
•More than 60% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests have
shockable rhythm that can be treated with an AED.
•For every minute that passes without CPR and
defibrillation, however, the chances of survival
decrease by 7–10%.
