Take care of hundred containers and not go crazyHonza Horák
Imagine you have four different databases, five popular languages, and six other interesting technologies, that you want to put into container image, make them nicely run in OpenShift, and support for few years. However, you soon realize that you want to support not only one version of the particular technology, and the images are not based on one distribution only. Then you easily find yourself developing and maintaining hundred of container images or more.
Something similar happened to us and I admit we did not know all the tricks from the first minute. Come and hear what issues we met during the way, so you do not repeat them as well. We will cover upstream/downstream design, de-duplication of the sources from more perspectives, automation based on Jenkins, and of course testing.

Help! I inherited a Drupal Site! - DrupalCamp Atlanta 2016Paul McKibben
You have found yourself newly-responsible for administering and updating a Drupal site created by somebody else, and you’re struggling. Maybe you’re new to Drupal and you’ve been thrown into the fire. Or maybe you’re experienced with Drupal but the site creator used an unfamiliar approach. Or even worse, perhaps the site was not built according to best practices, and you need to dig deep to figure out how it works and keep it updated. Whatever your situation, this presentation has something for you.
Presenting adhocr (abbreviation for Ad-hoc copy and run) as a simple, but powerful UNIX administrator tool. If you like to retrieve data or execute commands on lots of systems simultaneously then this tool is your friend. There is no need to exchange your ssh keys as the power behind adhocr is the expect tool (language). For example, it is plain easy to use adhocr to distribute your public ssh key to all your systems. The real power of adhocr is the central point of logging, which is perfect for \'grep\'ing into stuff you\'re looking for.
You also have the ability to execute commands via the \'sudo su -\' way, which is a blessing in environments where root is not permitted to login directly.
You can even use it monitoring your systems thanks to the powerful error catching.

Devoops: DoJ Annual Cybersecurity Training Symposium Edition 2015Chris Gates
In a rare mash-up, DevOps is increasingly blending the work of both application and network security professionals. In a quest to move faster, organizations can end up creating security vulnerabilities using the tools and products meant to protect them. Both Chris Gates (carnal0wnage) and Ken Johnson (cktricky) will share their collaborative research into the technology driving DevOps as well as share their stories of what happens when these tools are used insecurely as well as when the tools are just insecure.
Technologies discussed will encompass AWS Technology, Chef, Puppet, Hudson/Jenkins, Vagrant, Kickstart and much, much more. Everything from common misconfigurations to remote code execution will be presented. This is research to bring awareness to those responsible for securing a DevOps environment.
This Slide was presented as an introduction to Linux . Students with little experience in free operating systems were encouraged to take up Linux based operating systems.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This slides describes the basic concepts of ICT, basics of Email, Emerging Technology and Digital Initiatives in Education. This presentations aligns with the UGC Paper I syllabus.
2. Development Environment
● All development should traffic over the SSH
o SSH remotely logs you into a remote server securely
(providing a secure shell)
● A remote server provides HTTP service
o Drupal sites have been installed on this server
o Each team is bound to a single Linux system
account
3. Team Management
● Team accounts can be reached using fully-qualified
domain names
o team1.library.lafayette.edu
● The user for each team is mapped to the
team number
o openhacker1 for team 1
o openhackerN for team N
4. Team Management
● Team Access
o The systems administrator (me) requires RSA2 keys
from each team member
o These are the very same keys used on the compute
cluster within Computer Science
5. Team Management
● Team Access
o Generating RSA2 Keys
Should you require an RSA2 key, one can be
generated
https://help.github.com/articles/generating-ssh-keys/#
step-2-generate-a-new-ssh-key
6. Modifying the Site
● File directory structure
o The Drupal site itself consists of Modules, Themes,
and Libraries
Modules
● /var/www/drupal/sites/all/modules
Themes
● /var/www/drupal/sites/all/themes
Libraries
● /var/www/drupal/sites/all/libraries
7. Resolving Bugs
● Issues exist for the following Modules
o islandora_dss_solr_facet_pages
● Issues exist for the site Theme
o bootstrap_dss_digital
● Issues exist for the following Libraries
o openseadragon
o pdf.js
8. Resolving Bugs
● Selecting an Issue
o https://github.com/LafayetteCollegeLibraries/islandora_dss_solr_facet_pages/issues
o https://github.com/LafayetteCollegeLibraries/openseadragon/issues
o https://github.com/LafayetteCollegeLibraries/pdf.js/issues
o https://github.com/LafayetteCollegeLibraries/bootstrap_dss_digital/issues
● Repositories have been forked
o Hence, each team need only work on the local
repository
9. Essential Git Operations
● git add file1 file2...fileN
o The modified files are prepared for the commit
● git commit -m ’Description of changes’
o A message is bound to the modified set of files
● git push origin stable
o The modified files are pushed to the remote
repository’s “stable” branch
10. Resolving Bugs
● Pull Requests
o Once a bug has been resolved, issue a “Pull Request”
o e. g. https://github.com/open-hack-night-team-1/pdf.js/pulls
● Testing and Merging
o Should the resolution be tested successfully, the
code can be merged into the source code base
