This document is a guide for teachers that provides an overview of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. It describes the different sections and formats of the IELTS Academic and General Training tests. Both tests assess English proficiency across four skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking. While the listening and speaking components are the same, the reading and writing sections differ between the two tests in terms of text types and task requirements to reflect appropriate levels of difficulty for academic versus general purposes. The guide aims to help teachers prepare students for IELTS and understand the scoring system.
