IELTS
What is IELTS?
 IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System.
 It is a standardised English language test that is used to determine
proficiency for foreign speakers who want to live, work and study in an
English-speaking environment.
Why we need IELTS?
There are three reasons why you should take the IELTS:
 Work
If you’re hoping to pursue a career in an English speaking country, you first need to obtain a visa which
permits you to do so. One of the steps in obtaining a visa is providing evidence that you are proficient
in the English language.
 Study
Many English speaking universities require international students to take the IELTS as a condition of
their initial application and acceptance. If you’re looking to do an undergraduate or postgraduate
course that is taught in English, an IELTS can not only help you get on the course, but will also help you
to succeed within your studies.
 Immigration
If you would like to obtain citizenship in an English speaking country, many countries require good
English in order for you to obtain permanent residence.
Test Format
There are two types of IELTS exam :
1. Academic
IELTS Academic is for test takers wishing to study at undergraduate or
postgraduate levels, and for those seeking professional registration.
2. General Training
General Training is for test takers wishing to migrate to an English speaking
country (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK), and for those wishing to train or
study at below degree level.
The level of the Test
Sequence of the Test
 The Listening, Reading and Writing tests must be completed on the same day.
 The order in which these tests are taken may vary.
 There are no breaks between these three tests.
 The Speaking test may be taken up to seven days before or after the other
three tests
