Mozart s Requiem At The Seattle Symphony
Every time I hear about famous composers, like Bach or Mozart, the names themselves put me to
sleep quicker than any anesthesia ever could. So, it was no surprise that I absolutely dreaded the idea
of seeing a piece written by any of these composers. I attended Mozart s requiem at the Seattle
symphony, I grunted at the idea of paying $38 for something I wasn t even interested in. How dare
they charge an absurd amount for something that was written before time itself? I took my seat and
looked out at the sea of older retired couples and couldn t believe this would be my fate someday.
Ludovic Morlot was conducting for the evening, I have never heard the name in my life and only
learned of it from the magazine I was handed before taking my seat. Morlot is French born musician,
and currently the music director for the Seattle symphony.
Morlot started off playing the violin, but in 1994, attended the Royal Academy of Music to become a
conductor. He first started playing for the Seattle Symphony in 2009, and would later go on to sign a
six year contract with the Seattle symphony. As the lights dimmed, the musicians took their places and
began playing. At the same time I sank into my seat and put my phone on the dim setting and began
my quest to find something interesting on Facebook. The first piece consisted of only string
instruments, and only about twenty musicians playing. The tone of the music started off slow and
gentle. As they kept playing, I quickly found it harder and

The Big Five Personality Traits Essay
The personality trait that I chose is one of the big five personality traits known as Extraversion.
Extraversion is a trait, within the factor called plasticity, which relates to individuals who are social
and outgoing. More specifically, they like a lot of various stimulation, it comes of no surprise that
these individuals seek out people, activities and noisy places. These individuals can seek excitement;
they are impulsive, risk taking, argumentative and unreliable, while also upbeat, optimistic, warm,
assertive, and like to be active. As well, extroverts tend to be viewed as more attractive and popular
than introverts are, and can be seen attending more parties and drinking in excess. The individual that
I will address is, Hank Moody, the main character on the T.V. show Californiacation. Hank approaches
life in a satirical manner, making everything into his own little joke, making life seem less serious.
Hank is seen as a popular, enthusiastic, assertive, dominant and attractive woman admirer, having a
way with his words, which is related to his career as a writer. His charming and warm approach also
makes him successful with so many women. Hank constantly seeks out attention and stimulating
situations, whether it be fights, or making his presence known in a room. He becomes victim to mate
poaching at parties, and when things finally look good for him and his ex, he gets swept up by other
women and loses the momentum he builds. In the show, Hank is always friending new

Descriptive Essay About Soccer
More Than Just a Sport Soccer. When most people think about an outdoor adventure , this is probably
not the type of sport that pops up in their heads. It is a worldwide sport which requires practitioners
with strong psyche and well trained bodies. Furthermore, a positive attitude, endurance, and fighting
spirit are important characters to show if you want to survive within the world of soccer. This is not
only about a sport; it is about a lifestyle. It is not only about kicking a ball from one side of a field to
another, it is about creating a bond between people. My career as a soccer player started when I was
six years old. It would be a lie to say that it was love at first sight the truth is that I understood nothing
at all about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would not say that soccer would solve the world s problems, but it would definitely bring more
happiness to our planet. In year 2006, I traveled to Italy with my family, and at one of the hotels where
we were staying, they coordinated a soccer tournament. My father (who is a real soccer freak and
currently reading a book about soccer strategies), and I decided to join the competition. We got sorted
into the same team and other hotel guest got amazed by how well we played the sport. At that point,
neither of us knew a single word in Italian, but we both had a great time and we got to meet a group of
new friends. When first coming to college, I did not know anyone. I am born and raised in Sweden, so
moving to Florida was extremely nerve racking. I was not only thousands of miles away from home,
but it was also a six hour time difference between me and all of my friends at home. Yet one thing I
knew even before my plane landed at Orlando International Airport, I was going to play for the club
soccer team. Entering the field was like entering a safety zone from the rest of my freshman college
experience it was like coming home. This is how I met my first friends, and how I later became
involved within other clubs and organizations on campus. Furthermore, I realized that this outdoor
sport has given me knowledge and wisdom that I can use within other areas in life. My cooperation
skills have always been good. I

Summary Of The Poem By Li Young Lee
Sadness is the feeling of down or unhappy in response to grief. The Poem To S.M., a Young African
Painter, on Seeing His Works by Phillis Wheatley, is about how a young painter sees himself as he
paints and what he feels. The poem A Story by Li Young Lee, is about a boy who asks his father to tell
him a story but the father cannot remember any. The tone for both of these poems is sadness. I will be
talking about the poetic devices in both of these poems, for example, both of these poems have
enjambment, figurative language, and tone. The first one that is going to be talked about is
Enjambment. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond to the end of a
line, couplet, or stanza. In To S.M. an example of this

Perceptions Of Literacy Policies And Procedures
The quantative study examined teachers perceptions of literacy policies and procedures, and if
professional developments were made available and beneficial to teachers. The methodology used was
survey research. The authors kept an unbiased tone throughout the article, and used methods such as
sampling, a focus group, measurement and scaling, and statistical analysis. Based on the information
provided in the article, I concluded this is an objectivism epistemology.
They stated that their measurement instrument was reliable, since the test retest (T1 T2) correlated the
coefficient of stability was 0.92. This is an excellent correlation produced by the pilot group of 100 K
6 teachers who completed the survey. I must note according to the authors there was a 4 mo. span
between T1 and T2, this short amount of time between the tests could explain the exceptional results.
The study itself contained around 400 participants and they used the same survey for both the pilot
group and study participants.
There was no hypothesis, and I m not sure if I would call this a literature review, I would have gone
more in depth with the multiple annotations used. At least providing some results from previous
studies. They provided a sufficient amount of statements. Thus, the authors do provide adequate
background knowledge of policies and information regarding the 21st century literacy initiative, and
the support required to insure teachers have the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively

Through The Looking Glass of Art Essay
What makes us human is the ability to recognize the good in other people and in turn recognize the
good in ourselves. There is a saying that whatever you think about another person is just a reflection
of what you think about yourself; it is like looking into a mirror. Paintings can act like mirrors as well;
we can gaze into a painting and see the good of the subject being portrayed and in turn we can identify
the same attributes within ourselves allowing us to relate to the subject matter. Both Rembrandt and
Vermeer were able to capture intersubjectivity in their paintings. In The Return of the Prodigal Son
(Fig. 1) and Aristotle (Fig. 2) by Rembrandt and The Milk Maid (Fig. 3) and Woman Weighing Pearls
(Fig. 4) by Vermeer there is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The capacity to forgive one another is one way we are able to see the humanity in others. The second
painting of Rembrandt s that produces a deep connection between the image and the viewer is
Aristotle (Fig. 2); this painting shows us Aristotle in contemplation looking discontent. According to
Mariet Westermann, Rembrandt is suggesting, Aristotle is torn by the competing demands of spiritual
matters, embodied in the bust of Homer, and secular ones, signified by the medal with the portrait of
Alexander the Great, which dangles from the gold chain (Westermann, p. 244). Humans have been
torn emotionally between two different paths in life since we gained the ability to rationalize. The idea
of being able to make choices comes into play when considering free will, having free will is the
ability to choose ones own destiny. What better picture to look at than Rembrandts Aristotle (Fig. 2)
when contemplating ethical theories. At some time or another we have been confronted with moral
dilemmas, in the face of those quandary s we must choose the path that will lead us to our highest and
best good. These decisions are not always easy ones to make and sometimes we make the wrong
choices, but in the end they will teach us valuable lessons. One of Vermeer s works that people can see
the humanity in is the Milkmaid (Fig. 3); she is taking great pride and care in her work. The maid is
carefully pouring the milk into a bowl trying not to spill a drop.

Supply Chain Power Tool T3
Power Tool Proposal Task 3 In order to operate at maximum profit levels, a business must have lower
operational costs than the competition. The means to satisfying lower operational costs is Supply
Chain Management. Supply Chain Management is a cross industry wide philosophy to improve
operational efficiency by integrating activities of obtaining goods and services to create a product.
When implementing a supply chain strategy, consideration must be given to the approach given to
suppliers, metrics to measure success of the plan, risk and risk mitigation. In this paper we will discuss
the best supply chain management strategy for a newly formed company called Tyson Tools. The
organization plans to manufacture electric drills, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, these types of suppliers may not be willing to deliver to work cells if Tyson is to
implement JIT and Lean Operations strategies which will have a negative impact on work in process
and long term unit costs. As a result, this strategy is not recommended. Another Supply Chain
Management strategy is backward integration. Backward integration would consist of Tyson Tools
purchasing its suppliers to reduce delivery timing and cost reduction of purchased items. This type of
strategy requires the purchasing company to have large amounts of capital and an existing talent pool
with core competencies to manage a supply company. This type of strategy can be difficult to manage
and more difficult to reverse leading to financial ruin. In comparison, the alternative method of long
term partnering takes away the risk of the buyer having to be the specialist of the product from
beginning to end.
Discuss Metrics that could be used to measure performance of the supply chain.
Supply chain metrics can be used to align processes of all firms within the long term partnership
supply chain and create a competitive advantage of lower costs. Supply chain metrics are typically
used to determine how the company is preforming and how much capital investment is tied to
inventory in comparison to

The Deterrent Effect
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be
too eager to deal out death in judgement. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring). The killing of
someone for a crime has been around for many years. As far back as Ancient Law of China and the
Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon, the death penalty has been established as a punishment for
crimes. One of the top argument in 1970 s, was general deterrence (Radelet Borg 44). In addition
around 1955 1975 people favored by a small 5% then by 1975 1995 it rose to 78% favored and 18%
opposed (Goo). As you can see general deterrence had a great effect and that s why a rose to 78%
supported the death penalty between 1975 1995. This argument suggest ... Show more content on

The argument is a popular among politicians and the public in response to the escalating fear of
violence. They believe that with the death penalty gives a great strength to police officers because
potential offenders fear capital punishment which de escalates violence. Another factor many believe
is that criminals will be more compliant to cooperate because they will try to get a lesser punishment
which in turns makes the death penalty deter further crimes that could be committed. Many believe
that since the death penalty deters crime, it is a great tool for law enforcement as a

The Power Of Life In Robert Hughes s The Weary Blues
Nevertheless, Hughes through his literary works embraced the spirit of the Afro American community
through his attempts to capture everyday life. Using his poetic works, he could give a platform to the
powerless and provide the marginalized people a voice, along with his willingness to depict the
realities of life by popularising the blue theme genre. One of his earliest poetic works The Weary
Blues captures the inner tensions of the Harlem experience during this period, by portraying a sadness
within the oppressed black community, although beginning to find relief through the power of music.
Hugh s had adopted a jazz styled form of rhythm within his poems as he drew inspiration from the
Harlem streets and black music. Johnston and Farrell praised Hugh s innovations in evolving the
idioms of blues and jazz into poetic verse and reinvigorating the genre all together. Music had now
functioned as an expressive medium within this movement as the Afro American communities were
beginning to redefine themselves and the music created a common bond amongst them. This
recognition had ventured beyond the realms of the Afro American community as it encapsulated the
attention of all sections of mainstream society. Hughes recognized the power of music in uniting the
different races, but called for this cultural respect to go far beyond simple interracial meetings during
the night. Davies explores Hughes admiration for the region of Harlem as it became a new world filled
with energy and excitement comparing it to a never land of Jazzonia . However, Harlem s exuberance
was restricted to the night life, as during the rise of dawn it fell back in upon itself exhibiting the bland
and bleak nature of area, full of its tensions within social and economic problems. Hugh s offers an
insight into this characterisation of Harlem, describing the phenomenon of the Renaissance as When
Negro was in Vogue , drawing attention to the importance of night live entertainment for the majority
of Afro Americans as means of gaining agency over their lives. Hence, Hughes through his writing
explored how the development and growth of nightlife had played a profound role in the shaping of
the Harlem experience, where this music and dance gave

difficult to locate and prosecute those involved. The incidents of ransomware are expected to increase

for fun and for competition. The Nile was a good source to fish from and became very helpful. The

Evaluation Of The Elementary School
This lesson was taught November 12, 2015 at Rosa Taylor Elementary School in Miss. Baggott s fifth
grade class. That week the students went to see Miller Middle School November 10th and were out of
school for Veteran s Day on November 11th. This week in math the students were learning about
polygons and their characteristics. Triangles have a first and last name describing the sides and types
of angles. There are different types of quadrilaterals and other polygons with five for more signs. For
the summative assessment given to the students by the cooperative teacher, the students had to identify
the shapes by their name, number of sides, number of angles, and (for triangles) their first and last
names. My lesson was titled review stations where the class was broken up into groups of three or
four. There were six stations that included: polygon collage, the shape game, foldable focus group,
triangle board game, tangrams, and computer games provided by the teacher. Each station had a red
folder that consisted of everything the student needed for that particular station. The folder had written
directions either on the sheet of paper or on the folder itself. For the mini lesson, we collectively wrote
a chart in their interactive journals for notes. The chart consisted of five columns, including: prefix,

about number of sides and number of angles a particular polygon had. Each

1984 Analysis Essay
History and 1984
War is peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is strength. In George Orwell s 1984, a light is shining on
the concept of a negative utopia, or dystopia caused by totalitarianism. Totalitarianism is, a form of
government in which political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of
life and any opposing political and/or cultural expressions are suppressed. Having lived in a time of
totalitarianism regime, Orwell had a firsthand account of its horrific lengths and negative affects.
Within 1984, Orwell derives aspects of the actual government of his time to create, The Party , Big

Stalin use this concept in the 30 s for the same reason as the party; to make the people believe the
government was legitimate. Another aspect of Orwell s prophetic novel is the thought of technology.
During the time that Orwell wrote 1984, the radio was more comment than the television and
computers had not even been considered. Nonetheless, Orwell found a way to include these things in
his story. The tele screen could be related to the modern TV. Also, in the book, the control of
machinery and sources of information are controlled by computers. Orwell uses technology in this
book to
show that these things that were made to help man, can lead to the corruptness and downfall of
society, much like what is being seen today. Living in a world that continues to make advancements
technologically and politically, a book written more than 50 years ago still warns the world of what
could happen if government becomes too forceful. Because of George Orwell s strong hatred for
totalitarianism and its life dictating qualities, readers can get a taste of the perfect dystopia . Though
the people of today have been warned and are afraid of an all controlling government, they continue to
allow the concept of 1984 to become more and more real. If people continue to just watch their
governments make decisions and not ask questions, they will fall victim to its power. If a man not of
this time understands the terror of totalitarianism, everyone should

Family Virtues Virtues are usually taught through the eyes of the wise, also known as the elder. In the

virtues of the Lakota tribe and those of my family are more similar then I had anticipated, although we

In The Lakota Way, Koskalaka meets the deer woman and remembers what his grandmother had told
him and out of respect he declines her tempting offer to go with her. Just like Koskalaka respects his

the Lakota tribe, the grandmother said that when the Deer Woman takes them into her lodge she has
sex with them but, when they wake the deer woman is no longer there leaving the man forgetful of his
family and in search of the Deer Woman. Unlike the Lakotas, my family has gone out and seen their
own type of deer woman wether it be with drugs, sex, or lies, but never have they forgotten about the
rest of us. My family has learned to embrace one another when they have fallen into temptation, where
the Lakotas would cast them out. My relatives have gone through many hardships and difficult
situations but the morals have set into our heads like Koskalaka s grandmother set into his head. The
many men whom the Deer Woman lured into her lodge lost complete contact with their families and
thus themselves. They left their family s worried about where they could be and what could be

opinion in much value, which might be the reason for Hero s reluctance to offer her opinion in front of
men. Beatrice championing this view of female choice, not Hero, only further serves to distinguish the
positions of the two women in relation to male power. On first view, Hero is the obedient female
character, while Beatrice is the abrasive character. However, this position is challenged by Hero s
firmness in dealing with other women my cousin is a fool, and so are you . Indeed, both men and
women have much more different patterns of behaviour when outside each other s company. Hero is
covert, silent and publicly unassertive in front of men, because she doesn t believe that she will be
listened to. Beatrice is the only female character who Shakespeare presents as unconstrained by this
restriction. However, the only male character that seems to listen to her is Benedict, which only
magnifies the uniqueness of the two characters, both as a couple and as individuals, in that Beatrice is
not tamed by male power, and Benedict acknowledges female wisdom.

Flq Manifesto
The FLQ manifesto is a political manifesto that sought to promote Quebecoi independence and the
rejection of Liberal party policy, which focused primarily on big business and private investment.
Released in what was one of Canada s most politically turbulent period, the document provides key
insights into the FLQ organization demands and to the broader discussion taking place in Quebec
society. The document was produced by the front de liberation du Quebec, a left wing organization
that advocated for separatist policies beginning in the early 1960 s. Politically energized in the inner
city college campuses, the organization resorted to public bombings designed not to hurt but to instill
fear into society. They pushed a narrative of Francophile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The document alleges that the Liberal victory clearly demonstrates that what we call democracy in
Quebec has always been, and still is, a democracy of the rich . Many Francophones viewed the victory
of the Liberal party as the workings of an entrenched elite, which isolated the majority French
speaking population. The manifestos reference to the most recent election, only a year prior to the
events of the October Crisis provide insights into the broader populations feeling at this time.

The Notebook Essay example
The Notebook is a phenomenal film with incredible performances and many heartfelt moments from
beginning to end. It is a love story that many of us fantasize of living someday. The story unfolds in
recent times at a Nursing home with the introduction of an elderly lady (Gena Rowlands) who is being
visited by an old man, known as Duke (James Garner), who also resides in the nursing home, and he s
there to read her a story. He begins to read about a young girl named Allie (Rachel McAdams) who
was visiting a cousin one summer in the late 1940s. Allie was a beautiful teenage girl who eventually
caught the eye of Noah (Ryan Gosling), her cousin s boyfriend s best friend. Initially, she showed no
interest in Noah, considering the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film?s setting was in present and past scenarios, which made it very interesting. As the old man
Duke read the story, in a past plot, and the story began to climax, he would be interrupted by someone
in the nursing staff, bringing them back to the present. This lineup of events leads to a sense of
curiosity as I began to wonder what these two plots have in relation. This curiosity will soon be
fulfilled as the story develops, and the two plots start to intertwine. The director of this film did a
fantastic job in combining these two plots, and giving the audience just enough time to figure out their
relation. He didn?t give it away too soon, or so late that the story got boring or confusing. He also
made very good use of underscoring (background music with no apparent source) in a previous scene
where Allie and Noah where dancing alone in the middle on nowhere, to the sounds of Billie Holiday.
This particular shot was a three minute continuous shot taken with a camera on a 300ft dolly track.
The actors and actresses in this film did a remarkable job in playing their roles. The language and
wardrobe fit the perfect description of a 40?s teenager. Now, this is what I call a love story. Based on
the novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook is most definitely the way a love story should be. This
story doesn?t just say happily ever after at the end, it actually takes you there. Works Cited The
Notebook. Directed by Nick Cassavetes.

Who Is Hieronymus Bosch The Arrest Of Christ

December 7, 2015
The Arrest of Christ Hieronymus Bosch was one of the most fascinating and puzzling artists in history
a unique artistic personality who nonetheless typifies the Renaissance era in the emergence of
distinctive personal styles , in the words of Fred S. Kleiner (257). The painting I chose do my term
paper on is titled, The Arrest of Christ. Painted in the year 1515, by the artist Hieronymous Bosch, in
oil and tempera on a panel. It currently hangs in the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. The
Arrest of Christ painting depicts Christ s peace transcending his circumstances and the balance
between good and evil. In the first part of this paper I will give a formal analysis of the painting ...

my thesis of Christ expressing peace and tranquility and providing the differences between his figure
and the others surrounding him. I also provided academic quotes to support my thesis. This painting is
important to humanity because it gives us insight into what was important to Bosch and the people
living in Netherland at the time. Religion greatly influenced the artist whereas in this day and age,

Why We Need Heroes in Movies
Thomas Fuselier
Why do we need heroes?
Professor James Winters
While they may be very different from one another almost every movie must have some type of hero.
Screen writers and movie directors must constantly develop these different types of heroes to please
the many different attitudes and opinions of movie goers. Movie enthusiast all have different reasons
for liking the movie heroes they do and it is up to the screen writers, actors, and directors to
successfully please the movies target audience. Numerous studies have tried to reveal just exactly
what people consider a hero to be. In a study discussed in the course packet the results show that terms

In real life the underdog is hardly ever victorious so movie writers create these underdog heroes to
fulfill the audiences desire to see the underdog actually win once and a while. Movies that show the
underdog as triumphant give real people hope that even though one may be up against a much more
powerful foe, it is possible to come out on top. Superheroes first became extremely popular within the
pages of comic books so it was only natural that film makers adopted the idea of superheroes into
movies as well. People flock to superhero movies to satisfy their need for fantasy. Superhero movies
frequently depict an average Joe who is somehow given amazing super human powers that real men
and women have been fantasizing about for years. When thinking about movies that follow this
sequence of events, the first movie that comes to my mind is Spider Man. The movie starts out by
showing the main character as a weak and nerdy high school student, but a field trip to a research lab
changed his life forever. He is bitten by a spider that gives him super human powers that he uses to
fight crime and injustice. Viewers are enticed by movies like Spiderman because they wish that they
could actually obtain these super human powers too. While many people would like these powers to
have the ability to better society, many would also enjoy the powers for more cynical uses. Many
people can relate to the feeling of being weak and helpless, so seeing heroes like Spiderman in the

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are
some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying
the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by
discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are
different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key
similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two
philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses
the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what
questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and
how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the
differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile
substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soul is
in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared
to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception.

Role of Women in Islam Past and Present

My selected topic is: Role of Women in Islam Past and Present
In this paper I will argue that the position of women in Islam according to the Qur an and Hadiths
(tradition) of the Prophet differs vastly from Islam in practice, currentely. It is not the Islamic
ideologies that determine the position of women in the Islamic societies; it is rather the pre Islamic
patriarchal ideologies existing in a particular society, combined with the lack of education and
ignorance, which construct the Muslim women s position. In the early days of Islam, women enjoyed
more freedom than many Muslim women today. Women were protected by laws concerning such
areas as inheritance, divorce, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women can do work like men, but they do not have to do it to earn a living. They are allowed and
encouraged to take the duties of marriage and motherhood seriously and are provided with the means
to stay at home and do it properly. The majority of people try to blame the problem on religion
however the real problem is cause by tribal customs. Religion does not play a big part on the status of
women but it is tribal customs that play the big role in the status of women. Women s views were
listened to, respected, and usually supported, by the Prophet* as we have seen. Women have
sometimes headed Islamic provinces, like Arwa bint Ahmad, who served as governor of Yemen under
the Fatimid Khalifahs in the late fifth and early sixth century. Women are also entitled to respect as
mothers: Allah says in the Qur an (31:14): And we have enjoined on man (to be good to his parents: in
travail upon travail did his mother bear him... According to The Prophet* Paradise lies at the feet of
mothers ...and in another hadith the Prophet* told a man that his mother above all other people, even
his father, was worthy of his highest respect and compassion.Hadiths are the sayings of Prophet
Mohammad (May Peace Be Upon Him).

automatically have the right to all his property if he dies intestate. Both are still regarded as individual

The Death Ratio And Crash
Maybe you re afraid of snakes being on your plane? Nah, Im just kidding. Do you know what causes
plane crashes? Small things such as birds, wind, and weather can take a 430 ton airplane to the
ground, yet statistics actually show that air travel is the safest way to travel. In the following research
paper the reader will learn how plane crashes happen and how they can be prevented. The death ratio
and crash ratio both have descended over the following 20 years. There are thousands of car fatalities
each year, along with deaths. You have a one in one million chance to crash while being present on an
plane. Statistics? Or in other words facts. These are the things that we lean on in life. If something has
good credibility or statistics, then its the way to go. Plane crashes can frighten you even if you re not
on board. In fact, we live in an era where plane travel is the safest and quickest way to travel. Just last
year, 2014 had the lowest amount of plane deaths. The Year 1972 had the highest crash ratio. Planes
have advanced since then and now are more efficient and safer. In 2014 there were only 761 plane
fatalities.Statistics show that six percent of plane crashes were weather related during the 2000 s.
Another twenty percent of plane crashes statistics says that crashes during the 1970 s were mechanical
issues. Also, 34 percent of plane crashes were pilot errors during the 2000 s. In 1950, three percent of
plane fatalities were sabotaged. Believe it or not , plane

New York s Fresh Kills Landfill
The city that never sleeps also happens to be a city that has an enormous garbage problem that it needs
to solve. Whether this problem it be due to a mismanagement of resources from the beginning or
stemming from the throw away culture of today, New York is in a situation where its trash is piling up
and it s pawning it off on others to discard of it. New York City, like most cities across the United
Sates utilizes landfills to dispose of their waste. Fresh Kills Landfill opened in 1948 and was only
intended to be a temporary landfill used for 20 years, however by 1955 it became the largest landfill in
the world as it was turned into New York s primary dumping ground for the second half of the 20th
century. At the peak of operation Fresh Kills was receiving twenty barges carry 650 tons of waste each
and every day. In March of 2001 Fresh Kills reached capacity and with the urging of the United States
Environmental Protection Agency and local residents it was shut down. That left a big question for the
Department of Sanitation as to what to do with New York City and its surrounding boroughs trash?

to transfer stations where the waste is then sorted and transported to another solid waste management
facility for further processing, treatment, transfer or disposal. This process is again handled using
highly polluting diesel fueled trucks that ship it to landfills and waste to energy incinerators in other
states. The long term plan introduced is to reduce costs drastically increasing recycling which in turn
will reduce waste and to build a waterfront transfer system in order to be less dependent upon the
highly polluting diesel trucks and use barges hauling containers to ship garbage and also trains to
transfer the waste. (Transfer

Self Actualization In Hamlet
According to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, basic necessities, such as food, water, and shelter must be
obtained before beginning the process of self actualization. Self actualization is a hard concept to
explain, especially if one has not experienced it. Throughout his life, the intelligent reader must
distinguish what self actualization is, as well as how to actively engage in it. This involves asking
oneself questions, such as Who am I? or Why am I here? , and not responding with a rehearsed
interview answer that everyone has prepared at some point in their life. The process of self
actualization involves thinking about what happens, if anything, after death. Is there an afterlife, or are

In the beginning of the story, Meursault is unnerved by his mother s death and quickly moves along in
his life. In fact, Meursault seems unemotional during most of the book. The existentialist part of
Meursault finds it difficult to know what love is. For example, when Marie asks if Meursault loves
her, he replies that [love] didn t mean anything but that [he] didn t [think] so (Camus 35). This lends
itself to the question of what love actually is. Is love spending time with people you care about, or is it
a myth that society has taught us to believe in? Meursault would argue the latter as his relationships
with both his mother and Marie don t involve much emotion. Another instance in which Meursault
exhibits existentialist behavior is when he shoots the Arab on the beach. What drives Meursault to
shoot is not the Arab drawing his knife, but rather the intense sun and the sweat running down his
face. During the days after the shooting, Monsieur Meursault doesn t understand why he needs an
attorney. It is easy for him to understand; he commits a murder, and he is ready to face the
consequences for his actions. There s a lot of meaning hidden in the novel s title. Part of the
existentialist attitude is the idea of alienation, and Meursault is essentially a stranger to the world
around him. He never truly has a solid relationship, whether it be with his family, his

Introduce And Critique Neo Realism
Introduce and critique Neo Realism
Realism came about in post 1930s with the failure of the peace through law approach . The failure of
the League of Nations meant there was a decline in the Liberalist International relations theory. Key
Liberalist thinkers such as Jackson and Sorensen described liberalism as being optimistic about human
nature, that people were capable of moral progress and also liberalist treat states as individual units.
The failure of state and human cooperation that led to World War One and Two had deeply
undermined the liberalist theory, this led to the importance of the Realist theory who question the
optimism of human nature. Realist are often pessimistic on human nature, (Jackson and Sorensen,
2007) argued life is constantly at risk, and nobody can be confident about his or her security and
survival for any reasonable length of time... Key Realist thinker Thomas Hobbes also argued that the
world consists of self interested individuals and that life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short .
Realism is more useful than liberalism today as we see mass conflict and a lack of trust between
humans and states, such as the Islamic State preforming barbaric acts against its own civilians, or the
September attacks 2001 which supports the Realist theory that life is constantly at risk . In this essay,
Neo Realism will be discussed. Key thinker of Neo Realism has been Kenneth Waltz. His aim was to
try and explain why wars are caused in a more systematic

Reflection On Issues And Ethics
Issues and Ethics: Reflection Paper Assignment
Fareeha Ikram
Ethical Dilemma:
1. You are working with a man who has a history of suicide attempts and has been hospitalized on
more than one occasion. He tells you that he has found it very hard to get help in the past, because
whenever he tells a counselor he is feeling suicidal they immediately call for help and he is
hospitalized. He tells you that at those times he really just needs someone to talk to and wishes he
could find a counselor he could confide in when he is feeling suicidal who would not call an
ambulance and seek psychiatric help for him. He is a very high risk for suicide given his past attempts
and frequent thoughts that include a detailed plan. He tells you that he wants to tell you something but
is worried about how you will react. He wonders if he can tell you and if you can promise that you
will just help him and not involve emergency services, if you cannot make that promise he will not tell
you.
Part A
1. Step One: Identify the problem
The presenting problem is that as the counselor to a man with a history of suicide attempts and
hospitalization, I m in a situation where he has asked me to promise to not report any information he
confides in me to emergency services.
The major participant in this situation is the man as his life and safety are at risk, given his troubling
history, and as the counselor, it is my responsibility to help and support him. Therefore, I must use this
8 step ethical decision making model to decide the best course of action to solve this ethical dilemma.
2. Step Two: Identify the potential issues involved
The issues involved are ethical and legal. First of all, choosing to remain quite in this situation can be
a form of enabling, but it will respect the client s promise. But, if I were to report this to emergency
services, I would be violating the client s confidentiality and his trust. This is a moral and ethical
issue. This issue is also legal in nature because while counselors must maintain confidentiality, as per
certain provincial and territorial laws, there is a duty to protect/warn/inform in case of imminent
danger to the client, even when it is inflicted by one s own self.

The Effect Of Groucho s Short Story Of Casablanca
The effect of Groucho s short history of Casablanca is to create a humour but yet also sarcasm
scenario. The letter says, It seems that in 1471, Ferdinand Balboa Warner, your great great grandfather
... had stumbled on the shores of Africa and, raising his aplentock, which he later turned in for a
hundred shares of common, named it Casablanca (Groucho). Groucho finds it ridiculous that the
Warner Brothers thinks they own the city name Casablanca. He makes up a how supposedly the
Warner Brothers were given the right to own the name not because they made a movie using the title
Casablanca.
4) It would really not be difficult to distinguish Ingrid Bergman and Harpo Marx. In Footnote 4 and 5
it says, The beautiful female star of Casablanca ... Harpo was Groucho s brother and part of the Marx
Brothers; he wore a red, curly haired wig (Footnote 4 and 5). This comes to show that it would not
difficult to distinguish a female from a male a red curly haired wig. Unless one is blind then one may
have some trouble. However, it is not the case in this situation. Groucho is trying to make an excuse to
contradict the Warner Brothers.
5) Marx offers so many examples of Brothers to create a sense of humor but also contradict the legal
name accusation of the Warner Brothers. Groucho says, What about Warner Brother ? Do you own
that too ... Professionally, we were brothers before you were (Marx). This comes to show that Groucho
wanted to make the Warner Brothers realize they also may

Summary Of The Snake In Book Two Of The Aeneids
At first, it seems odd to compare a snake to a fire. One lives among us, but the other is never actually
living. However, taking a different perspective, a person might notice that the two hiss, creep, and
have wavering tongues. Virgil makes use of this comparison extensively throughout Book Two of The
Aeneid. The brutality of the attackers, their deception, and the fires which complete their task are
repeatedly linked to the action of the snake. The snake attacks from hiding, as did the Greeks from the
womb of the Trojan horse. Subsequently, brutality as an attribute of the snake is imposed on the
scholar s consciousness in Book Two of The Aeneid through the account of the destiny of Laocoon
and his two sons. Hence, the snake is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They re real, and they re dangerous. Nonetheless, if you look deeper, you ll see that they are
something more. They prophesize the downfall of Troy as a whole. The snakes come from Tenedos,
which is also where the Greeks are supposedly hiding. And, obviously, they take out a man who
otherwise would ve prevented the Trojan horse from invading into Trojan territory.
Over the calm deep straits of Tenedos swim
Twin, giant serpents, rearing in coils, breasting the seaswell...
First each serpent seizes one of his small young sons,
Constricting, twisting around him, sinks its fangs in
The tortured limbs, and gorges. Next Laocoon rushing to the rescue, clutching his sword
They trap him, bind him in huge muscular whorls,
Their scaly backs lashing around his midriff twice
And twice around his throat their heads, their flaring necks mounting over their victim writhing still...
his horrible screaming fills the skies... (262 282)
This horrifying image carries all the power of the destruction of Troy. These lines foretell not only the
presence of the Greek formation (the fact that they arrived from Tenedos), but the assault (the
murders), the Trojan defense, the murder of Polites and Priam (the son first and the father last), and
the fires which rise above blazing Troy (their flaring necks and the screams that fill the skies). They
display the destruction of Troy as the life of the snake.

Youth Rebelliion In The 1950s Essay
History Essay By Ben Roberson
During the 1950 s there was significant social change taking place in America. Young people were
dissatisfied with certain conservative aspects of society and their conduct reflected this. They
embraced the rock and roll culture, the new style of music and also the new styles of dancing and
dress that were associated with it shocked the older more conservative people. Young people were also
quick to protest against the controversial issues of the 1950 s. Civil Rights, the Vietnam War and
general politics provided fuel for an already blazing fire. Mass production meant cheaper motorcycles
and cars, providing the young people with freedom that was previously not with in their reach. A

Around this time young people began to break away from their parents. Prior to this each generation
had grown up treating their parents with the utmost respect and modelling their behaviour and views
on their parents. This change was made easier by the freedom brought about by access to a car, which
lead to increased independence. After the war there was huge economic growth in America, this
coupled with mass production of automobiles made transport relatively cheap most families were able
to afford a car. The children of these families were often allowed to take out the family car, granting
them more freedom to go out with friends and more privacy for couples. This new show of
independence was also evident in the young people s reaction to social issues that were taking place.
Many of the young war veterans returning from the Second World War and the Korean War found it
very hard to fit back into society. Many of these veterans got heavily into both drug taking and social
protest. However it wasn t only the youth returning from war who were dissatisfied with the
governments reaction to a number of issues that young people felt very passionate about, namely civil
rights and the onset of the Vietnam War. Inspired by the successes of some of the more prominent
black leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King, idealists were encouraged to believe that a

  • 2. Mozart s Requiem At The Seattle Symphony Every time I hear about famous composers, like Bach or Mozart, the names themselves put me to sleep quicker than any anesthesia ever could. So, it was no surprise that I absolutely dreaded the idea of seeing a piece written by any of these composers. I attended Mozart s requiem at the Seattle symphony, I grunted at the idea of paying $38 for something I wasn t even interested in. How dare they charge an absurd amount for something that was written before time itself? I took my seat and looked out at the sea of older retired couples and couldn t believe this would be my fate someday. Ludovic Morlot was conducting for the evening, I have never heard the name in my life and only learned of it from the magazine I was handed before taking my seat. Morlot is French born musician, and currently the music director for the Seattle symphony. Morlot started off playing the violin, but in 1994, attended the Royal Academy of Music to become a conductor. He first started playing for the Seattle Symphony in 2009, and would later go on to sign a six year contract with the Seattle symphony. As the lights dimmed, the musicians took their places and began playing. At the same time I sank into my seat and put my phone on the dim setting and began my quest to find something interesting on Facebook. The first piece consisted of only string instruments, and only about twenty musicians playing. The tone of the music started off slow and gentle. As they kept playing, I quickly found it harder and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Big Five Personality Traits Essay The personality trait that I chose is one of the big five personality traits known as Extraversion. Extraversion is a trait, within the factor called plasticity, which relates to individuals who are social and outgoing. More specifically, they like a lot of various stimulation, it comes of no surprise that these individuals seek out people, activities and noisy places. These individuals can seek excitement; they are impulsive, risk taking, argumentative and unreliable, while also upbeat, optimistic, warm, assertive, and like to be active. As well, extroverts tend to be viewed as more attractive and popular than introverts are, and can be seen attending more parties and drinking in excess. The individual that I will address is, Hank Moody, the main character on the T.V. show Californiacation. Hank approaches life in a satirical manner, making everything into his own little joke, making life seem less serious. Hank is seen as a popular, enthusiastic, assertive, dominant and attractive woman admirer, having a way with his words, which is related to his career as a writer. His charming and warm approach also makes him successful with so many women. Hank constantly seeks out attention and stimulating situations, whether it be fights, or making his presence known in a room. He becomes victim to mate poaching at parties, and when things finally look good for him and his ex, he gets swept up by other women and loses the momentum he builds. In the show, Hank is always friending new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descriptive Essay About Soccer More Than Just a Sport Soccer. When most people think about an outdoor adventure , this is probably not the type of sport that pops up in their heads. It is a worldwide sport which requires practitioners with strong psyche and well trained bodies. Furthermore, a positive attitude, endurance, and fighting spirit are important characters to show if you want to survive within the world of soccer. This is not only about a sport; it is about a lifestyle. It is not only about kicking a ball from one side of a field to another, it is about creating a bond between people. My career as a soccer player started when I was six years old. It would be a lie to say that it was love at first sight the truth is that I understood nothing at all about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would not say that soccer would solve the world s problems, but it would definitely bring more happiness to our planet. In year 2006, I traveled to Italy with my family, and at one of the hotels where we were staying, they coordinated a soccer tournament. My father (who is a real soccer freak and currently reading a book about soccer strategies), and I decided to join the competition. We got sorted into the same team and other hotel guest got amazed by how well we played the sport. At that point, neither of us knew a single word in Italian, but we both had a great time and we got to meet a group of new friends. When first coming to college, I did not know anyone. I am born and raised in Sweden, so moving to Florida was extremely nerve racking. I was not only thousands of miles away from home, but it was also a six hour time difference between me and all of my friends at home. Yet one thing I knew even before my plane landed at Orlando International Airport, I was going to play for the club soccer team. Entering the field was like entering a safety zone from the rest of my freshman college experience it was like coming home. This is how I met my first friends, and how I later became involved within other clubs and organizations on campus. Furthermore, I realized that this outdoor sport has given me knowledge and wisdom that I can use within other areas in life. My cooperation skills have always been good. I ... • 5. Summary Of The Poem By Li Young Lee Sadness is the feeling of down or unhappy in response to grief. The Poem To S.M., a Young African Painter, on Seeing His Works by Phillis Wheatley, is about how a young painter sees himself as he paints and what he feels. The poem A Story by Li Young Lee, is about a boy who asks his father to tell him a story but the father cannot remember any. The tone for both of these poems is sadness. I will be talking about the poetic devices in both of these poems, for example, both of these poems have enjambment, figurative language, and tone. The first one that is going to be talked about is Enjambment. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond to the end of a line, couplet, or stanza. In To S.M. an example of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Perceptions Of Literacy Policies And Procedures The quantative study examined teachers perceptions of literacy policies and procedures, and if professional developments were made available and beneficial to teachers. The methodology used was survey research. The authors kept an unbiased tone throughout the article, and used methods such as sampling, a focus group, measurement and scaling, and statistical analysis. Based on the information provided in the article, I concluded this is an objectivism epistemology. They stated that their measurement instrument was reliable, since the test retest (T1 T2) correlated the coefficient of stability was 0.92. This is an excellent correlation produced by the pilot group of 100 K 6 teachers who completed the survey. I must note according to the authors there was a 4 mo. span between T1 and T2, this short amount of time between the tests could explain the exceptional results. The study itself contained around 400 participants and they used the same survey for both the pilot group and study participants. There was no hypothesis, and I m not sure if I would call this a literature review, I would have gone more in depth with the multiple annotations used. At least providing some results from previous studies. They provided a sufficient amount of statements. Thus, the authors do provide adequate background knowledge of policies and information regarding the 21st century literacy initiative, and the support required to insure teachers have the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively ... A Summary Of Snowboarding More people are hurt snowboarding than any other outdoor activity, accounting for a quarter of emergency room visits, according to the first national study to estimate recreational injuries. Trailing snowboarding are sledding and hiking, researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report in the journal Wilderness and Environmental Medicine. The most common problems were broken bones and sprains, accounting for half of all cases. We want people to participate in outdoor recreational activities. • 8. Through The Looking Glass of Art Essay What makes us human is the ability to recognize the good in other people and in turn recognize the good in ourselves. There is a saying that whatever you think about another person is just a reflection of what you think about yourself; it is like looking into a mirror. Paintings can act like mirrors as well; we can gaze into a painting and see the good of the subject being portrayed and in turn we can identify the same attributes within ourselves allowing us to relate to the subject matter. Both Rembrandt and Vermeer were able to capture intersubjectivity in their paintings. The second painting of Rembrandt s that produces a deep connection between the image and the viewer is Aristotle (Fig. 2); this painting shows us Aristotle in contemplation looking discontent. According to Mariet Westermann, Rembrandt is suggesting, Aristotle is torn by the competing demands of spiritual matters, embodied in the bust of Homer, and secular ones, signified by the medal with the portrait of Alexander the Great, which dangles from the gold chain (Westermann, p. 244). Humans have been torn emotionally between two different paths in life since we gained the ability to rationalize. The idea of being able to make choices comes into play when considering free will, having free will is the ability to choose ones own destiny. What better picture to look at than Rembrandts Aristotle (Fig. 2) when contemplating ethical theories. At some time or another we have been confronted with moral dilemmas, in the face of those quandary s we must choose the path that will lead us to our highest and best good. These decisions are not always easy ones to make and sometimes we make the wrong choices, but in the end they will teach us valuable lessons. Backward integration would consist of Tyson Tools purchasing its suppliers to reduce delivery timing and cost reduction of purchased items. This type of strategy requires the purchasing company to have large amounts of capital and an existing talent pool with core competencies to manage a supply company. This type of strategy can be difficult to manage and more difficult to reverse leading to financial ruin. • 11. The Power Of Life In Robert Hughes s The Weary Blues Nevertheless, Hughes through his literary works embraced the spirit of the Afro American community through his attempts to capture everyday life. Using his poetic works, he could give a platform to the powerless and provide the marginalized people a voice, along with his willingness to depict the realities of life by popularising the blue theme genre. One of his earliest poetic works The Weary Blues captures the inner tensions of the Harlem experience during this period, by portraying a sadness within the oppressed black community, although beginning to find relief through the power of music. Hugh s had adopted a jazz styled form of rhythm within his poems as he drew inspiration from the Harlem streets and black music. Johnston and Farrell praised Hugh s innovations in evolving the idioms of blues and jazz into poetic verse and reinvigorating the genre all together. Music had now functioned as an expressive medium within this movement as the Afro American communities were beginning to redefine themselves and the music created a common bond amongst them. This recognition had ventured beyond the realms of the Afro American community as it encapsulated the attention of all sections of mainstream society. Hughes recognized the power of music in uniting the different races, but called for this cultural respect to go far beyond simple interracial meetings during the night. Davies explores Hughes admiration for the region of Harlem as it became a new world filled with energy and excitement comparing it to a never land of Jazzonia . However, Harlem s exuberance was restricted to the night life, as during the rise of dawn it fell back in upon itself exhibiting the bland and bleak nature of area, full of its tensions within social and economic problems. Hugh s offers an insight into this characterisation of Harlem, describing the phenomenon of the Renaissance as When Negro was in Vogue , drawing attention to the importance of night live entertainment for the majority of Afro Americans as means of gaining agency over their lives. Hence, Hughes through his writing explored how the development and growth of nightlife had played a profound role in the shaping of the Harlem experience, where this music and dance gave ... Having lived in a time of totalitarianism regime, Orwell had a firsthand account of its horrific lengths and negative affects. Nonetheless, Orwell found a way to include these things in his story. The tele screen could be related to the modern TV. Also, in the book, the control of machinery and sources of information are controlled by computers. Orwell uses technology in this book to show that these things that were made to help man, can lead to the corruptness and downfall of society, much like what is being seen today. Living in a world that continues to make advancements technologically and politically, a book written more than 50 years ago still warns the world of what could happen if government becomes too forceful. Though the people of today have been warned and are afraid of an all controlling government, they continue to allow the concept of 1984 to become more and more real. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soul is in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception. • 30. Role of Women in Islam Past and Present Mariam Abrar, GEND 341, Paula Humfrey, May 25, 2006. My selected topic is: Role of Women in Islam Past and Present In this paper I will argue that the position of women in Islam according to the Qur an and Hadiths (tradition) of the Prophet differs vastly from Islam in practice, currentely. It is not the Islamic ideologies that determine the position of women in the Islamic societies; it is rather the pre Islamic patriarchal ideologies existing in a particular society, combined with the lack of education and ignorance, which construct the Muslim women s position. In the early days of Islam, women enjoyed more freedom than many Muslim women today. Women were protected by laws concerning such areas as inheritance, divorce, and ... They are allowed and encouraged to take the duties of marriage and motherhood seriously and are provided with the means to stay at home and do it properly. The majority of people try to blame the problem on religion however the real problem is cause by tribal customs. Religion does not play a big part on the status of women but it is tribal customs that play the big role in the status of women. Women s views were listened to, respected, and usually supported, by the Prophet* as we have seen. Women have sometimes headed Islamic provinces, like Arwa bint Ahmad, who served as governor of Yemen under the Fatimid Khalifahs in the late fifth and early sixth century. Women are also entitled to respect as mothers: Allah says in the Qur an (31:14): And we have enjoined on man (to be good to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him... According to The Prophet* Paradise lies at the feet of mothers ...and in another hadith the Prophet* told a man that his mother above all other people, even his father, was worthy of his highest respect and compassion.Hadiths are the sayings of Prophet Mohammad (May Peace Be Upon Him). Whether this problem it be due to a mismanagement of resources from the beginning or stemming from the throw away culture of today, New York is in a situation where its trash is piling up and it s pawning it off on others to discard of it. New York City, like most cities across the United Sates utilizes landfills to dispose of their waste. Fresh Kills Landfill opened in 1948 and was only intended to be a temporary landfill used for 20 years, however by 1955 it became the largest landfill in the world as it was turned into New York s primary dumping ground for the second half of the 20th century. At the peak of operation Fresh Kills was receiving twenty barges carry 650 tons of waste each and every day. In March of 2001 Fresh Kills reached capacity and with the urging of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and local residents it was shut down. That left a big question for the Department of Sanitation as to what to do with New York City and its surrounding boroughs trash? (Fresh Kills Park Alliance) ... Today, garbage is collected with highly polluting diesel fueled trucks and then that garbage is brought to transfer stations where the waste is then sorted and transported to another solid waste management facility for further processing, treatment, transfer or disposal. This process is again handled using highly polluting diesel fueled trucks that ship it to landfills and waste to energy incinerators in other states. The long term plan introduced is to reduce costs drastically increasing recycling which in turn will reduce waste and to build a waterfront transfer system in order to be less dependent upon the highly polluting diesel trucks and use barges hauling containers to ship garbage and also trains to transfer the waste. • 33. Self Actualization In Hamlet According to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, basic necessities, such as food, water, and shelter must be obtained before beginning the process of self actualization. Self actualization is a hard concept to explain, especially if one has not experienced it. Throughout his life, the intelligent reader must distinguish what self actualization is, as well as how to actively engage in it. This involves asking oneself questions, such as Who am I? or Why am I here? , and not responding with a rehearsed interview answer that everyone has prepared at some point in their life. The process of self actualization involves thinking about what happens, if anything, after death. Is there an afterlife, or are we simply put on earth for 60, 70, 80 years, ... In fact, Meursault seems unemotional during most of the book. The existentialist part of Meursault finds it difficult to know what love is. For example, when Marie asks if Meursault loves her, he replies that [love] didn t mean anything but that [he] didn t [think] so (Camus 35). This lends itself to the question of what love actually is. Is love spending time with people you care about, or is it a myth that society has taught us to believe in? Meursault would argue the latter as his relationships with both his mother and Marie don t involve much emotion. Another instance in which Meursault exhibits existentialist behavior is when he shoots the Arab on the beach. What drives Meursault to shoot is not the Arab drawing his knife, but rather the intense sun and the sweat running down his face. During the days after the shooting, Monsieur Meursault doesn t understand why he needs an attorney. It is easy for him to understand; he commits a murder, and he is ready to face the consequences for his actions. There s a lot of meaning hidden in the novel s title. Part of the existentialist attitude is the idea of alienation, and Meursault is essentially a stranger to the world around him. • 34. Introduce And Critique Neo Realism Introduce and critique Neo Realism Realism came about in post 1930s with the failure of the peace through law approach . The failure of the League of Nations meant there was a decline in the Liberalist International relations theory. Key Liberalist thinkers such as Jackson and Sorensen described liberalism as being optimistic about human nature, that people were capable of moral progress and also liberalist treat states as individual units. The failure of state and human cooperation that led to World War One and Two had deeply undermined the liberalist theory, this led to the importance of the Realist theory who question the optimism of human nature. Realist are often pessimistic on human nature, (Jackson and Sorensen, 2007) argued life is constantly at risk, and nobody can be confident about his or her security and survival for any reasonable length of time... Key Realist thinker Thomas Hobbes also argued that the world consists of self interested individuals and that life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short . Realism is more useful than liberalism today as we see mass conflict and a lack of trust between humans and states, such as the Islamic State preforming barbaric acts against its own civilians, or the September attacks 2001 which supports the Realist theory that life is constantly at risk . In this essay, Neo Realism will be discussed. Key thinker of Neo Realism has been Kenneth Waltz. His aim was to try and explain why wars are caused in a more systematic ... • 36. Reflection On Issues And Ethics Issues and Ethics: Reflection Paper Assignment Fareeha Ikram Ethical Dilemma: 1. You are working with a man who has a history of suicide attempts and has been hospitalized on more than one occasion. He tells you that he has found it very hard to get help in the past, because whenever he tells a counselor he is feeling suicidal they immediately call for help and he is hospitalized. He tells you that at those times he really just needs someone to talk to and wishes he could find a counselor he could confide in when he is feeling suicidal who would not call an ambulance and seek psychiatric help for him. He is a very high risk for suicide given his past attempts and frequent thoughts that include a detailed plan. He tells you that he wants to tell you something but is worried about how you will react. He wonders if he can tell you and if you can promise that you will just help him and not involve emergency services, if you cannot make that promise he will not tell you. Part A 1. Step One: Identify the problem The presenting problem is that as the counselor to a man with a history of suicide attempts and hospitalization, I m in a situation where he has asked me to promise to not report any information he confides in me to emergency services. The major participant in this situation is the man as his life and safety are at risk, given his troubling history, and as the counselor, it is my responsibility to help and support him. Therefore, I must use this 8 step ethical decision making model to decide the best course of action to solve this ethical dilemma. 2. Step Two: Identify the potential issues involved The issues involved are ethical and legal. First of all, choosing to remain quite in this situation can be a form of enabling, but it will respect the client s promise. But, if I were to report this to emergency services, I would be violating the client s confidentiality and his trust. This is a moral and ethical issue. This issue is also legal in nature because while counselors must maintain confidentiality, as per certain provincial and territorial laws, there is a duty to protect/warn/inform in case of imminent danger to the client, even when it is inflicted by one s own self. One can also

  • 38. The Effect Of Groucho s Short Story Of Casablanca The effect of Groucho s short history of Casablanca is to create a humour but yet also sarcasm scenario. The letter says, It seems that in 1471, Ferdinand Balboa Warner, your great great grandfather ... had stumbled on the shores of Africa and, raising his aplentock, which he later turned in for a hundred shares of common, named it Casablanca (Groucho). Groucho finds it ridiculous that the Warner Brothers thinks they own the city name Casablanca. He makes up a how supposedly the Warner Brothers were given the right to own the name not because they made a movie using the title Casablanca. 4) It would really not be difficult to distinguish Ingrid Bergman and Harpo Marx. In Footnote 4 and 5 it says, The beautiful female star of Casablanca ... Harpo was Groucho s brother and part of the Marx Brothers; he wore a red, curly haired wig (Footnote 4 and 5). This comes to show that it would not difficult to distinguish a female from a male a red curly haired wig. Unless one is blind then one may have some trouble. However, it is not the case in this situation. Groucho is trying to make an excuse to contradict the Warner Brothers. 5) Marx offers so many examples of Brothers to create a sense of humor but also contradict the legal name accusation of the Warner Brothers. Groucho says, What about Warner Brother ? Do you own that too ... Professionally, we were brothers before you were (Marx). This comes to show that Groucho wanted to make the Warner Brothers realize they also may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Summary Of The Snake In Book Two Of The Aeneids At first, it seems odd to compare a snake to a fire. One lives among us, but the other is never actually living. However, taking a different perspective, a person might notice that the two hiss, creep, and have wavering tongues. Virgil makes use of this comparison extensively throughout Book Two of The Aeneid. The brutality of the attackers, their deception, and the fires which complete their task are repeatedly linked to the action of the snake. The snake attacks from hiding, as did the Greeks from the womb of the Trojan horse. Subsequently, brutality as an attribute of the snake is imposed on the scholar s consciousness in Book Two of The Aeneid through the account of the destiny of Laocoon and his two sons. • 40. Youth Rebelliion In The 1950s Essay History Essay By Ben Roberson During the 1950 s there was significant social change taking place in America. Young people were dissatisfied with certain conservative aspects of society and their conduct reflected this. They embraced the rock and roll culture, the new style of music and also the new styles of dancing and dress that were associated with it shocked the older more conservative people. Young people were also quick to protest against the controversial issues of the 1950 s. Civil Rights, the Vietnam War and general politics provided fuel for an already blazing fire. Prior to this each generation had grown up treating their parents with the utmost respect and modelling their behaviour and views on their parents. This change was made easier by the freedom brought about by access to a car, which lead to increased independence. After the war there was huge economic growth in America, this coupled with mass production of automobiles made transport relatively cheap most families were able to afford a car. The children of these families were often allowed to take out the family car, granting them more freedom to go out with friends and more privacy for couples. This new show of independence was also evident in the young people s reaction to social issues that were taking place. Many of the young war veterans returning from the Second World War and the Korean War found it very hard to fit back into society. Many of these veterans got heavily into both drug taking and social protest. However it wasn t only the youth returning from war who were dissatisfied with the governments reaction to a number of issues that young people felt very passionate about, namely civil rights and the onset of the Vietnam War.
