2. Self Conscious Concept Of Self Consciousness
Self Conscious of the Self Consciousness within a Self Conscious

When introducing the concept of self consciousness, it can be very difficult for
individuals to understand that there are many forms of self consciousness. Many
already have a definition in mind as soon as they hear the word self consciousness. It
is made up of many concepts because it isn t just a cognitive state, rather, many
cognitive states. The mind processes many things as opposed to just knowing
things. Humans are capable of doing and desiring many things while self
evaluating and questioning oneself. Everyone is able to consider their own actions
and to think about themselves. When thinking, humans are able to consider ideas
and depictions regarding the self and others. Regarding oneself allows for
evaluating self worth in refinement to common social roles (Bermudez). A
common issue when defining self consciousness is being able to cover all of it s
multiple concepts and aspects. Many of these aspects are very simple while others
tend to go beyond and start to overlap each other. A common way of defining self
consciousness is to first define consciousness. With this, we are involving being
aware of all surroundings and perceiving the world in a certain way. It also involves
the sense of control, the idea that humans are able to control their conduct and mental
processes (Posner). Defining self consciousness though consciousness will only limit

3. Atomic Bomb On Hiroshima And Nagasaki
Imagine yourself walking down the familiar road of your hometown following
your daily routine. The sky is then consumed by the deafening sound of airplanes.
The people around you start to panic. You then start fleeing towards your family
and loved ones as realization hits you. However it is no use, your life had ended.
Thousands of people died instantly as an atomic bomb was dropped over Hiroshima
and Nagasaki, thousands more died because of the effect after. No weapon compares
to the magnitude of destruction an atomic bomb causes. In the history of the world,
atomic bombs have only been used twice. This was during World War II in Hiroshima
and Nagasaki, Japan. On June 1941, the Manhattan Projectwas commenced under the
care of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development. In the eyes of
formal President Truman, the war was bloody and violent and gone for way too
long. The war had already claimed many lives and it was time to put a stop to it.
Already in 1939, physicist of the United States were scared of the chance of
Germans studying nuclear fission. Albert Einstein then proposed the idea of this
military weapon to then president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Manhattan Project would
be the code name for this secretive project. In 1943, Harold C. Urey set a
cooperation deal with England and Canada, bringing even more scientist to work on
the new military weapon. By the end, the project grew to cost two billion dollars. On
July 16th of 1945, the first atomic bomb
4. The Influence Of Zionism On The Creation Of A Jewish
State
Zion
Since biblical times Jewish communities lived in Arab lands, in Persia, India, East
and North Africa and indeed in Palestine. However more modern times have seen
them as a nomadic people, living in various countries but never truly finding a land to
call there own. In the late 19th and early 20th century an idea began to gain solidarity
and momentum, that of Zionism. The idea of Zionism, to create a Jewish state, is
arguably one of modern society s most polarizing and influential movements. Zionism
has influenced political, religious, and social groups in a variety of ways that
culminated in the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine.(Cohen, week 10) The term
Zionism, as it is understood today, began to be used significantly by the political
activist Herzl. Herzl was driven to action following the event of the infamous anti
Semitic Dreyfus affair in which a Jewish/French officer was wrongly accused of
spying for Germany. This led Herzl to believe that anywhere the Jewswent they
would be unfairly persecuted. Herzl s solution, create an independent Jewish state.
To realize his goal Herzl began to look to political, religious, and social groups to
garner support for his cause. (Cohen, Week 10) The global political landscape is
fickle and has a habit of mutating and evolving in strange ways. The view of Zionist
movement was hardly unaffected by these rapid changes in political mindset and
agenda. Pre World War 1 era saw a primary anti sematic Europe, from Frances
5. Japanese Culture And Japanese Business
Culture is a major aspect of daily life, whether it is in personal life or business life.
The Japanese look for a community of unity and mutual trust when engaging in many
aspects of business, because they were taught from young children to manage
themselves harmoniously and cooperatively with others. Many of the Japanese are
very conservative in their culture and look for long term stability with trusted
partners in business.
Business men and women alike in Japan are well educated in doing business in the
U.S. and other countries and they try to accommodate accordingly. However, when
doing business in Japan, one should be equally prepared to respect and accommodate
themselves to the Japanese business customs, dining etiquette, meeting and greeting,
and gift giving aspects. Although some people think that Japanese culture hinders the
country s business by putting restrictions on what can and cannot be done while
doing business in Japan, the Japanese culture can open doors for many international
business partners with long term business in Japan because of the country s culture
background.
Management Issues in Japanese Business Culture In Japan, management styles differ
from those in many other countries. Many of the large corporations in Japan have
their own management styles that interacts with their business culture and sometimes
instructions from managers can seem too vague, which can cause confusion. Japan s
large companies ensure all their employees have excellent

The challenge relating to the custom procedures for the importation of water testing
was also due to the unclear of administrative procedures. The field investigator wanted
to import the water testing without paying import tax as the water tests were not
for profit. However, in order to be exempted from import tax, it requires a formal
signed agreement between a local origination and a foreign organisation indicating
that these tests are not for profit, the approvals at ministerial level on the formal
signed agreement. Because a formal signed agreement and a ministerial approval are
not available for the field research, the importation of the Coliplate tests is not
exempted from importation tax. The field investigator decided to pay tax to import
the water tests in time for the implementation of the field activities, and explore ways
to pursue tax claim later on. The local partner has helped the field investigator to
contact with Ministry of Finance for claiming the import tax return of the water tests.
However, it was replied that there is insufficient documents to prove that the field
investigator is eligible to claim import tax for the water tests.

SlaughterHouse Analyisi Written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. His book took close to
twenty three years to finish, due to a internal strife. His book was still in writing
during the times he went back to Europe to visit the old battlegrounds he had once
fought in. Vonnegut served the during World War 2 and was a American P.O.W.,
to the town of Dresden, where he and other captured American prisoners were
forced to do work. During the years he was captured he lived in an underground
made facility. During his stay, Allied Forces fire bombed Dresden, close to 100,000
people were killed. The times he was trapped in Dresden, and the friendly fire attack
and the obliteration of close to hundred thousand people left emotion scars. The visits

that sticks out is the idea that war is bad. Death of 135,000 people in Dresden and

8. Greek And The Modern Culture Of The Ancient Greek
Culture
There are a couple of ways in which a given cultural period has influenced the
modern world. In my opinion if you look at today compared to the Ancient Greece
time period looking back about 2500 years ago a lot of things they have created
and started evolved into great things for an example. Sports and the Olympics,
Architecture, and even the Greek arts. I personally feel like these subjects hit home
when we are talking about influential changes from the past to todays culture. You
actually might just be as surprised finding out some of this information just like me.
You might be surprised but although looking back about 2500 years ago they also
played sports just like we do to this day. As a matter of fact the Ancient Greeks were
the inventors of the Olympics believe it or not the Olympics has been around for that
long. Although it was a little different back then. The ancient Olympic Gameswere
initially a one day event until 684 BC, when they were extended to three days. In the
5th century B.C., the Games were extended again to cover five days. The ancient
Games included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and
equestrian events. (Olympic.org). They even often performed nude to demonstrate
the performance of the human body. (mindmeister.com) . The running contest
included the Stade race (200m foot race) , The Diaulos (two stades 400m foot race)
, Dolichos ( ranging between 7and 24 stades). The next event was the jumping
Athletes used stone or lead weights called halteres to increase the distance of a
jump. They held onto the weights until the end of their flight, and then jettisoned
them backwards. (Olympic.org). There s also boxing and wrestling which is still
like modern days boxing and wrestling. But with the both were way more brutal
boxers back then would sometimes even disfigure there own opponents. Wrestling
matches would not stop until there opponent admitting call for defeat. As you can
tell our modern day Olympics have grew but the start has come from the ancient
Greek. Who would have know ? That a couple of games would turn into something
as big as the Olympics that today brings the best from all around the world to
participate in these following events that

10. Of Male Characters In Much Ado About Nothing, Othello,
And...
As a playwright, William Shakespeare has formed male characters to be able to
justify radical acts of violence because they are specifically male. These behaviors
are often then reinforced by other characters by putting the blame of the male s
actions on another. Female characters in particular are a juxtaposition of the male
role of being reckless, by saying essentially that they are unable to do such things
because they are not men. Examples of these instances are in the plays Much Ado
About Nothing, Othello, and Macbeth.
A parallel scene to this is in Othello. Othello kills Desdemona because he believes
that she was unfaithful to him in scene five. Initially Othello was going to be
executed because it was unknown that he thought Desdemona was disloyal and it was
thought that Othello killed out of hatred. Lodovico talks to Othello, and learns that
Iago had tricked Othello into this. Lodovico does give Othello the consequence of
imprisonment, but this shows that he does not believe that Othello should suffer the
full repercussions of what he has done because he was tricked, and thought that
Desdemona was unfaithful. Even if one is deceived to believe such a thing had
happen, it does not justify killing another. With Lodovico s response, it is verified
that he believes that a natural reaction would be to do so.
The two women were faced with death because of infidelity. The reasoning behind
both actions taken by the male characters were because it is out of honor.
11. The Stages Of Alcoholism
Alcoholism is a term used to describe a disease that follows a destructive pattern of
alcohol usage that includes tolerance. Using more and more alcohol for a long
period of time describes the types of patterns of people who become addicted to
alcohol. They are formally known as alcoholics and it is typically when this person
will suffer from alcoholism. It is the illness that feeds off of the alcoholic, naturally
calling for the alcoholic to consume numerous drinks. It is appropriately considered a
disease rather than a weakness because it is a pattern that the individual creates and
will have withdrawal symptoms if they don t have more amounts. Alcoholics build up
a tolerance to achieve intoxication, which has the power to depress the central

improve their mood and possibly escape from problems in their lives. They aren t
able to limit or stop drinking and will eventually build their tolerance through the
first stages. The middle stage of Alcoholism is when the disease is marked by the
increasing need to drink. As a result, individuals will drink greater quantities and at
earlier times in the day till the night. In the middle stage, the alcoholic has no
control over drinking and the body begins to shift the way alcohol is processed

take over the individuals entire well being and body. This will result in violent
behavior, blackouts and other health related issues. This is because when drinking

A large percentage of current doctors are reaching the age of retirement and many

disadvantages of having any medical job that involves such high stakes, are the
pressures of professional liability. Many doctors are at risk of being sued for
malpractice during their medical careers. Medical liability can deter doctors away
from tending to high risk patients or even practicing at all. According to a study
conducted by the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 58% of OB
GYNs said they changed how they practiced due to the risk or fear of being sued.
Slightly more than one out of four OB GYNs (27%) decreased the number of high
risk patients, 24% increased the number of cesarean deliveries, 19% stopped

who are in high risk situations. No woman should have to worry about being denied
treatment by a doctor for fear of being potentially sued. When obstetricians

toll on the mental health and confidence of these trained medical professionals. This
13. Analysis Of The Film Dead Man Walking
Introduction The theoretical perspective I found most convincing when analyzing
the behavior of the main character, Mathew Poncelot, in the film, Dead Man
Walking, are the ideologies of sociologist Max Weber. He believed that rather than
only focusing on one s social actions, it is instead important to understand why
people do the things that they do (Long Crowell). Empathizing with individuals
and identifying their perspectives explains one s rationales behind each choice
and behavior (Long Crowell). By gaining an understanding of an individual s point
of view, we can make sense of their reality and how their perceptions affect their
role in our world (DuBose, 2015). Weber s theory supports that Poncelot s behaviors
can be explained by evaluating the rationale behind the factors that influenced and
affected the choices he made. His childhood experiences, family values, education
level, social class, and economic status were crucial factors when explaining why he
became the person he was. Furthermore, the combination of Poncelot s thoughts and
actions were based on the experiences and social interactions he encountered.
Throughout this analysis, I will reflect on the various theoretical perspectives
discussed this semester and what I have learned from each of these concepts. I will
address why I found Weber s theory most convincing and apply connections between
theories as they relate to understanding social problems and the values of daily social
work practices.

Identity Crisis When one is going through life, they will try to find who they are.
This can be influenced by people around them and what they do, but they will find

Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she begins to focus on her
larger community and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows that
knowing and accepting where one comes from is an important part of growing up
and determining one s identity. Esperanza gets stunted from growing because of
the people she s around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or
much older. This is shown by Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette
Our Good Day to describe people around her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but
kids around someone is only going to stop them from growing. Having someone
that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to be at in order to keep

15. New Methods Of Appetite Control
In recent years, a variety of new methods of appetite control have been marketed to
consumers, both in America and around the globe. There are a variety of different
methods, as well, ranging from pure diet and exercise to extreme options like the
roux en y gastric bypass, meant to prevent absorption of many nutrients by our
system. Recently, however, a breakthrough drug has been discovered that mimics
the effects of gastric bypass in the sense that it practically reduces the size of the
stomach without the risks and dangers of surgery and the potential for
complications from the gastric bypass procedure. This new drug has been found
effective in small research studies to work with the body to reduce the amount of
food eaten, rather than by limiting the absorption of food in the digestive tract.
With the successes that have been seen in preliminary research, a grant was given
to commission this study, which will examine on a far larger scale whether the
relationships that were found in preliminary research will stand up when the drug is
given to a much larger sample group. The methodology for this experiment is
relatively simple, although for the sake of thoroughness, does need to explain in
order to fully understand the scope of the proposed study. The first thing that needs
to be discussed is the selection of our participants. While it is possible to gather
information by randomly selecting people to participate in this study, the results need
to be as accurate as

Each author in his or her own way masterfully employs images in order to better
support their overall claims. Within her text, Workers Go Shopping, Milanesio
expertly employs multiple photos of Argentinians moving about their daily lives to
illustrate how the importation of western culture so greatly affected the emerging
middle, and working class consumers. This gives great backing to her thesis of how
the emerging working class so greatly affected the transformation of Argentina into a
modern 20th century nation. Photos of the Argentinian people enjoying modern
luxuries like dance halls and vacations to the beach, are accompanied by
advertisements from magazines and street billboards which further illuminate the
consumer culture which had engulfed the nation by mid century. Milanesio also
employs images to illustrate how the importation of western culture also propagated
gender roles for not only women, but men as well. Documents taken directly from
Argentinian media of the day can be seen encouraging women to aspire for beauty,
but also submissiveness. The propagation of the housewife myth, visible here in the
Argentinian media, was a very prevalent force in the society of the United States at
this time and can be assumed to have been heavily influenced by their neighbors to

mirrored by ones pointed to men which embedded ideals of masculinity and hard
work. These advertisements not only encouraged an overall image of what
Argentinian people should aspire to, but also expanded the consumer market, thereby
promoting consumerism. These photographs of Argentinians enjoying the newfound
luxuries of modernity and consumer society gives great backing to Milanesio s thesis

BRAM STOKER S DRACULA
Bram Stoker s gothic horror novel, Dracula, is a piece of literature that has
cultivated a genre of storytelling and writing. Stoker s novel, published in 1897,
follows the story of a party of friends united to end the tyranny of the vampire,
Count Dracula. Set in England and Transylvania in the late 1890 s, the novel has
been a popular discussion topic by both critics and lovers of the book. The novel,
with its use of different styles, was written to give multiple points of view. It was
Stoker s use of these aspects and more, that gave the novel true and timeless
Literary Merit. Literary Merit is defined by the quality of language and style,
timelessness, influences to era, ability to immerse the reader and the ability to

19. Willa Cather s Neighbour Rosicky
After reading Willa Cather s Neighbour Rosicky story, one can see that there are
puritan, transcendental, regionalism, naturalism and realism characteristics in the
story (1863). Cather was able to identify Rosicky s puritan characteristics when
describing his mental and physical toughness. The transcendental characteristic is
shown when Rosicky becomes a resident of New York, which becomes as natural
as walking the busy, noisy streets. In contrast, it can also be unnatural when the
streets are empty or when the nostalgia of the city wears off (Cather 1871). The
regionalism characteristics are illustrated throughout the story as it relates to the
specific places and people being impacted. Naturalism is discussed in the extreme
situations that Rosicky experiences throughout his life. In one perspective, the
story follows the motivational theory in psychology that argues that while people
aim to meet basic needs, they seek to meet successively higher needs in the form
of a pyramid (Maslow). The focus of this paper is on the realism characteristics
that Cather described distinctly as the poor, middle class and ordinary stages of
Rosicky s life. Rosicky was poor in many ways. He lost his mother as a young boy
and was forced to live with his grandparents in the country (Cather 1871). He
believed his life would get the better. When he was eighteen, he moved to London to
live with his cousin (Cather 1874). Fortune did not follow him to London, since his

paper I will explain when and why it happened. And also, how this battle influenced
and shaped the outcome of the Civil War.
Three months into the Civil War things were starting off pretty slow. There had only
been small battle and not much effort put in from either side. Neither the Confederate
Army nor the Union Army had put much training into their troops. And with
significant pressure from the North about lack of effort, Abraham Lincoln decided
that he had to do something to stay in the favor of the North, and to quickly bring
this war to a stop. The pressure was on for him, it was not in the plan for this war
to last long and many of the Union soldiers had 90 day contracts that were set to
expire soon. It very well may have been is last chance to strike before he lost his
great Army force. Lincoln s strategy was to stop Confederate forces near Manassas,
Virginia, deal a devastating blow, and quickly march on Richmond, the Confederate
capital and take over from there. With this plan came great risk, General Irvin
McDowell was worried that the union
22. The Philosopher King
If the choice is between a blind person and a sharp sighted one, isn t it clear which
one we ll need? (Plato 203). The image of the philosopher king was thoroughly
described in Plato s Republic, but the perfect ruler or philosopher king has
transformed throughout history and are influenced by historical events. First, the
description of a perfect ruler in an ideal society in Platos Republic will be the first
comparison and the basis of a philosopher king. Second, Marcus Aurelius, who was
described as the first philosopher king wrote Meditations and it expresses his own
thoughts and beliefs which can ultimately reflect his actions. Lastly, Notker s
account of Charlemagne can be used to examine a king who may not always be
recognized as a philosopher king, but Charlemagne is described as a great ruler who
valued learning and philosophy. These three examples are from different time
periods and so their perception and lifestyles are different in some aspects.
Likewise, all three accounts are from different viewpoints because the Republic is
not examining one specific person, but an ideal individual. Marcus Aurelius wrote
about himself and his beliefs and values are examined to determine philosopher king
characteristics. Lastly, Notker s writing is a secondary source and Notker did not
know Charlemagne personally. Therefore, Notker s account is praising a king who
he did not know, but Charlemagne is remembered as an ideal ruler and Notker lists
Charlemagne s accomplishments and
23. Analysis Of George Orwell s Orwell Essay
Born Erick Arthur Blair, Orwell disregarded his birth name and changed it to
George Orwell. After Orwell changed his name, he transitioned from a supporter of
the British imperial to a literary political rebel. Orwell lived in India in his younger
years, and later attended a preparatory boarding school in 1911 on the Sussex
Coast. Orwell did not come from a rich family but a hardworking family. His
mother was a French extraction in India and his father was a minor British official
in the Indian Civil Service. In preparatory school, Orwell was known to be a
brilliant, poor student, and was treated differently than the middle class students.
Growing up, he was shy and an ill tempered boy who told his stories through
autobiographical essays and satire stories. In 1922, Orwell won two scholarships
to England s leading schools, Winchester and Eton. He chose to attend Eton, and
once graduated, he decided to follow his family s hardworking tradition. Parallel to
his father, Orwell moved to Burma and became an Assistant District Superintendent
in the Indian Imperial Police. From boyhood, he always wanted to become a
writer, and with realization of the forced British Imperial Political System amongst
the Burmese people he felt ashamed of his position; therefore, Orwell expressed his
memories and reactions of imperial rule in his novel Burmese Days and
autobiographical essays, A Hanging and Shooting an Elephant, all classics of
metrical exposer. In 1927, Orwell decided not

Ever since the invention of film as a mass media medium, fantasy films has been
emerged and evolved with the technological influence from film industry and the
cultural influence from the society. Despite its variation throughout the years, the
continuing attraction of fantasy films is largely attributed to the fact that they
provide an expression of resistance to authority, and coincide with escapism at the
same time. Being an often overlooked genre, fantasyfilms at one time was believed
as nothing more than simply fun by the audience. But as we dive deeper into the
themes and historic backgrounds of certain fantasy films, we realize that there must
be an explanation for its widespread influence and popularity. For example, the MGM

The emergence of B class films, animated films and musicals evidenced that films
were trying to meet the aesthetic taste of the lower class people. Ironic and realistic
elements were also usually used to reflect the discomfiture of the whole society and
to express people s dissatisfaction. Ordinary people replaced those righteous knights
or people who with great power became the protagonists in the artworks, aesthetic
taste and mundane lifestyles were also considered as the main content of American
culture. Following the great success of Disney s fantasy Snow White and The Seven
Dwarfs made in 1937, The Wizard of Oz became an iconic part of American culture,
for it illustrated the need Americans felt for escape during the Great Depression,
(Moje). The more desperate people are, the more entertainment and leisure they want,
and they try to escape from despair. So it is reasonable that we are able to detect the
now familiar outlines of an image mediated, consumer society in the 1930s, despite
the painful national experience of scarcity and poverty. During the Great Depression,
the audience went to the theaters only for the entertaining elements in movies, and
they would never want to revisit their hardships again in theaters. They needed the
brutal joy and surrealist elements on the screens to give them confidence and hope.
This type of optimism with an escapist filter
25. Fire Detection Sprinkler
Design Solution
Design Approach: Fire management and prevention was very important when
designing this facility and there are a number of measures put in place. Through
examination, it was decided to use flame detectors located at strategic points
throughout the main barn and in the stalled part of the barn. As mentioned
previously, these detectors are more reliable as they sense the development of a fire
through electro magnetic radiation instead of sensing smoke. Since this facility is
going to be built in a location where water can freeze and is not going to be heated,
it is more applicable to utilize an electronically operated sprinkler system which, as
stated earlier, relies on a fire detection device to activate. The flame detection ... Show

The different detectors that could be used to determine if a fire has started all
have their drawbacks. Some of these devices could be prematurely activated if
there is dust and humidity which is common in agricultural facilities. This would
render the purpose of the detectors completely ineffective. Since the sprinkler
system is to be associated with the detection system, if the detectors are set off
accidentally, the sprinklers will also activate prematurely. Electro magnetic locks on
stall doors are the best option as they do not need people to come and open the
doors. This will enable the horses to leave the facility under their own power in the
event of a

The two decade period beginning in the late 1940s and concluding in the late 1960s
represented the height in popularity for the Hollywood musical. With every major
production proving to be box office gold, the level of critical approval was high
establishing the Hollywood musical as a genre. Born with the coming of sound, the
Hollywood movie musical derived from two sources: opera and operetta, brought over
by European emigres, and the American tradition of vaudeville, the inspiration behind
so many backstage musicals, the plots of which revolved around putting on a show.
The interesting alliance between dream and reality in the musical gave directors,

Warner Bros was seen as more economical and down to earth because they
contrasted the lives of hard working chorus girls living in cheap apartments with the
lavish productions of shows choreographed by Busby Berkeley in which they
appeared. Berkeley created the musical numbers purely in terms of the one mobile
camera, forming kaleidoscopic effects with high overhead shots from a mobile crane.
What distinguished the films that burst forth from MGM in the 1940s and 1950s,
mostly under the producer Arthur Freed, was the integration of musical numbers into
the film s narrative. In these features the best being directed by Charles Walters,
George Sidney, Vincente Minnelli, Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly song, dance, and
music no longer punctuated the plot but actually worked to advance it. In 1951,
Vincente Minnelli triumphed with An American in Paris, and it became emblematic of
the golden era of MGM musicals. An American in Paris traces the exploits of Jerry

wealthy heiress named Milo (Nina Foch). Impressed with his work, she offers to help
arrange an exhibition for him. Although he is filled with displeasure when he realizes

it is more dangerous, but it would have a lot more adventure awaiting. Ultimately,
Frost decides to travel on the road less taken as a sense of adventure. Sadly, as soon

Answer this question from the perspective of Britain, France, and the United States
and within the context of the early 1930s. How do you think each country would
react to the situation in Germany as described by Rumbold and Messersmith? Your
response should reflect the domestic context of each country in the early 1930s. The
U.K, France, and the U.S would have reacted similarly to the situation in Germany
during the 1930s given the situation at the time. The United States during the 1930s
suffered greatly due to the Great Depressioncaused by Black Tuesday, crash of the
stock market. There was mass unemployment and uncertainty. To make matter worse,
Herbert Hoover, the president at the time, did little to help the American public.
Hoover argued that market would fix itself and that the government should not

I guess the single predominant reason that I cared about starting a new company
was to try and develop a better way for people to work together . . . that s where the

The airline industry was viewed as a commodity business, but Burr saw a chance to
offer a better product to customers. (PE believed that customers, rather than
passengers, created a more appropriate mindset.) But taking advantage of
deregulation was not the only reason Burr wanted to start the company: greater,
perhaps, was his desire to build a better organization one that was both more
productive and more fun than what he considered to be typical in American business.
He was tired of the politics and the beat them and they ll do more management styles
he had seen all his professional life. He was tired of what he called the deadening
grind and lack of vision of T.I. s business style. He wanted to design a new kind of
airline, one that would provide both better and cheaper service, and be an exciting
and rewarding place to work. The focus of the company would be on people: hence
its name, People Express. From its inception, therefore, PE was seen as a chance
by Burr and his management team to experiment with and demonstrate a better way

Are tall buildings necessary for London to remain a competitive world city?
On February 10, 2004 mayor of London Ken Livingstone introduced the London
Plan, the first proactive strategy in over thirty years to deal specifically with the
planning and development of London. Since an increase in London s population by
800,000 is expected by the year 2020 , the mayor has suggested the construction of
high rise buildings as the method most likely to enable London to grow in a
controlled and steady manner and maintain its status as a world city. A key part of
the plan, the mayor s proposal for high density towers throughout the city, has
heightened the debate between urban planners and heritage groups as to whether the

Paul s cathedral . Claims such as these have held together London s existing
developmental plan, the Views Policy, which is for the large part unorganized and
reactive; the plan dictates where tall buildings should not be placed rather than where
they could best be placed, which has resulted in London s fragmented and uneven
skyline . Thus far, the plan has served these groups well and they have effectively
prevented the construction of tall buildings that could potentially obstruct views of
London landmarks.
In place of tall, high density towers, suggestions have been made by some heritage
groups for the construction of a greater number of smaller and more compact high
density buildings. Even though smaller buildings would help to preserve the views
of London s major landmarks, they would not be built in the best interest of the city.
Since there is a lack of available land in the city and low rise, high density complexes
require more land than tall, high density towers, the only way to construct these
developments would be to expand outward. An outward expansion would not only be
expensive, requiring a development of infrastructure in those areas strong enough to
support new businesses, but almost entirely impractical due to London s poor
transport system. Even though half a million London workers live in the suburbs and
depend on the radial rail system that links them to the center of the city, the system as
a whole is expensive, heavily congested and wasteful; it

What is 1080?
1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is a poisonous chemical. Used in many areas of New
Zealand, yet it causes a devastating amount of damage harms many areas of New
Zealand.
What is 1080 used for
1080 is a poison used to protect the threats to native animals and plants from
introduced species. The pest control poison is effective in killing these introduced
species which kill our native animals/plants especially rats, stoats and possums.
Mainly found in vegetation lands, it prevents pests from eating healthy crops and
native animals. However, 1080 is a hazard to children, dogs, and many other
animals. This potential hazard can spread to bodies of water and can be present in a
specific areas for an extravagant amount of time. This danger makes 1080 an
unethical choice for controlling pests.
Recently, in 2015, a nationwide scare was put on Fonterra Baby Formula. An
anonymous letter sent to major news corporations (residing in New Zealand)
threatened the safety of the baby formula. Included was baby formula laced with

The Killers by Ernest Hemingway
The Killers by Ernest Hemingway is a story based upon Hemingway s view of the
big city in the late 1920 s. During the era of prohibition whoever controlled the flow
of alcohol controlled the city. Unfortunately, the police were powerless against
man thirst for booze. The Mafia also expanded into the bookie field, and if
someone didn t pay up or double crossed the Mafia they were taken out. Hemingway
was unfamiliar with this city scene and we can see a very strong correlation between
him and one of his characters, Nick Adams. Nick was a newcomer to the city,
completely unfamiliar with the boldness of disregard for the law that was present.
The Theme that I feel Hemingway is trying to convey is how ... Show more content

The Theme of the story was more or less an actual event that could have taken
place in any one of the major cities in the late 1920 s. When Mobsters ruled and the
police where simply a slight annoyance. The two killers who entered the
lunchroom were most likely Mafia hit men. As they leave, with Al only partially
concealing the sawed off shotgun, they further flaunt their disdain for the law
(Geimer 1260). This Disdain for the law points to a more powerful organization
than a simple murder. Ole s response also points to a larger, higher power. His
response is much like that of the older waiter: he is resigned not to life but to
death. He repeatedly tells Nick Adams that there is nothing for him to do; he turns
his face to the wall (Taube 6). Ole s response also sheds light on the general attitude
of the 1920 s, which was to just mind your own business and leave everyone else
alone. Even the cook, Sam, told Nick You better not have anything
to do with it at all (Hemingway, 17). This sets the mobsters influence into
perspective, showing us that the general public was under control of an unwritten,
silent government. The reader was led to believe that the two killers, Max and Al,
were Mafia hit men. While Hemingway never says if they were or weren t, we can
see instances where they switched from one to another. After Max and Al enter the
diner they look at the menu to try and find something to eat so as not to look

The legalization of recreational and medical use of marijuana is still a controversial
social issue faced by the United States. Although marijuana was seen as a dangerous
drug back in the 1900 s, research has revealed the truth about marijuana, making the
drug less frightening towards Americans. Now in the year 2015, marijuana is
generally more accepted by Americans and many more see marijuana in a positive
manner. Although marijuana does have some negative side effects, the side effects
are not severe enough to justify a ban on the use of marijuana. In addition, due to the
extensive research released on marijuana, people can clearly see the benefits
legalizing marijuana would bring to the United States. Marijuana should be legal in
all fifty states because the benefits outweigh any disadvantages and due to the
benefits Colorado is receiving, it shows legalizing marijuana is an excellent choice.
One of the main uses of marijuana is for medical reasons. Marijuana contains a
chemical called THC, which according to the Medicinal Marijuana Association, it
makes marijuana beneficial to patients suffering from illnesses such as AIDS, cancer,
glaucoma, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries and many other serious,
debilitating, or terminal conditions. The properties in marijuana can greatly relieve
chronic pain associated with these illnesses (Listland). By legalizing marijuana for
medical purposes, patients who have suffered from severe chronic pain can have

Sophisticated entry requirements illustrate how cumbersome it is to participate and
earn some benefits. Furthermore, promotional campaigns seem to mention that fair
trade is naturally inequitable and any item that does not bear its trademark confirms
indecent trading. Conversely, it is unquestionably wrong since it fails to comprehend
that other trading relationships benefit consumers. Producers, workers, and farmers
more than fair trade and sometimes cost friendly compared to fair trade. Mutual
respect and upholding the interests of all the stakeholders creates and strengthens
long term conventional trading relationships.
The principal aim of fair trade involves changing the financial status of people in
economically disadvantaged areas by offering the best prices for their goods, giving
them credit facilities, and marketing their products. The initiative, despite all its
benefits, exploits the poor through corruption, many maintenance costs, complex
entrance requirements, and locks them out from experiencing critical alternatives and

the film that we have to trust him (Nolan) that he can lead us through, because much
of the time we are lost and disoriented. I, personally, did not feel that way. Of course,
a lot of credit has to be given to the cinematographer too. Wally Pfisterused subtle but
effective techniques to simplify a little the complex nature of the story. In order to
prove my point, let me give an example.
In order to help the audience to seamlessly identify the dream levels where the
different stages of the plan were takin g place, Pfister gave each level a particular
color tone. The first level, where the abduction takes place, has a fairly neutral tone to
it; everything looks normal. The second level, most of the action develops in the hotel

they penetrate the mountain fortress, has a cool tone to enhance its already sterile

A phone call. That s all it took to ruin what left of my day. One single, seemingly
meaningless phone call. I could have just ignored it, then it wouldn t have royally
damaged what was remained of my stupid, tedious, unhappy assignment. It was a
simple enough job, for the money at least. Put a neat crater into some business
officials face, let his brains leak out, call to confirm, get the cash and leave. Easy.
The stuck up prick went to the machines downstairs to get a pop at around 8:37 in
the morning, roughly five minutes after he arrived in his posh, professional office
probably with a gold or bronze name plate that showed he did none of the work but
took all the credit. This bloke worked for five minutes then had to get something...

phone from the shirt pocket, I tossed it on the concrete floor without looking, eyes

The Cosmetics Industry
Estee Lauder vs. Shiseido Cosmetics
E. Wang

BSAD 491
IntroductionThe cosmetics business is a billion dollar industry. Every year, women
are responsible for consuming millions of cosmetic products. The cosmetics
industry is so large because of several factors. The media is a huge contributor to
the intense pressure to look a certain way. The idea that sex sells is evident in
gossip magazines, movies, advertisements, music, and more subtly in the business
world. People first notice what race someone is, how beautiful or ugly they are and
what clothes they are wearing. Beauty is skin deep; however, first impressions are
usually what others use to base their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main purpose of cosmetics is unmistakable to make you prettier. Women wear
varying amounts of makeup depending on the occasion, the time of day, or just
personal preferences. Makeup can be broken down into categories. Skin makeup
consists of foundation, concealer, powder, and blusher. Eye makeup includes:
mascara, shadow, liner, and brow definer. Lip makeup is comprised of products
such as lipstick, lip gloss, and lip liner. The generation of Baby Boomers are
growing older and living longer. The struggle to stay young has created a demand
for a cosmetic product that slows down the hands of time. Many cosmetic companies
have developed products that promise to erase wrinkles, lift and firm skin on our
faces, and smooth out blotchiness created by age spots. Estee Lauder s Idealists Skin
Refinishing line promises to do all that. The products range from US$46 to US$85
(EsteeLauder.com 2005). These miracle serums and lotions have a price tag many
consumers in China still may not be able to afford. Skin treatment products are often
sold next to the cosmetics, but in reality are not cosmetics themselves. Skin treatment
products are created with the purpose to improve the natural condition of the skin
rather than purely the aesthetic. Cleansers, astringents, toners, acne medications,
sunscreen, and lotion all help the skin stay healthy and free from blemishes. In the
past, it used to be that consumers
44. The Nile River
Egypt is one of the earliest and longest lasting civilizations to have been established.
The land, in length, stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to Sudan. The nomads of
the time, or prehistoric Egyptians, were forced to move from northeast Africa when a
drought came. The early Egyptians abandoned the nomadic lifestyle when they left,
and decided to settle in the lower Nileriver valley where they adapted to a lifestyle
of farming. These settlers discovered the various uses of the Nile River, created a
form of government and society, a working life, and certain religious beliefs. The
Nile River was used for several more things than just water supply. Egyptwas a land
where rain seldom fell, so the Nile was the main resource for everything. The
essential use of it was agriculture. Water of the Nile flooded the land between the
hills on either side of the valley yearly which left behind a rich silt. The yearly
flood was so crucial that priests developed a way to measure the rise of the river to
forecast what type of year it would be. This time of the year was the inundation
season, and it began in July. Although the people were unable to work in the fields,
only the wealthy could spare time to relax; for most Egyptians it was a time to
accomplish other duties such as: ameliorate or replace the agricultural tools that had
been worn out, catch waterfowl or fish to feed their families, but numerous people
were called up to work on royal building projects or to help with the
45. History Of The American Western Frontier Through...
Unlike other historical books, this book offers a different angle on viewing the
history of the American western frontier through narratives, testimonies, and primary
documents that capture the true voices of the Native Americans. Spanning across the
1860s to the 1890s, Dee Brown tells the plight of the Native Americans after their
contact with the American settlers and the United Statesgovernment. The repetitive
stories of the Native American groups during the second half of the nineteenth
century the welcoming of white men, the attempt to assimilate or resist, and
eventually the displacement or slaughter of the aboriginals had been told
tendentiously by the very people who drove the Native Americans to the ground.
Most historical writings of the west were great myths tales of fur traders, mountain
men, steamboat pilots, missionaries, schoolmasters, and homesteaders . Described by
Christopher Columbus as decorous and praiseworthy, the aboriginal population has
been pacifistic and open armed ever since the first contact between the New and the
Old World. One can even say that they were naГЇve in the way they embraced the
first people that appeared on their shores in the seventeenth century.
The Native Americans had long inhabited the North America region before the white
men arrived. Each of these thousands of groups had established their diverse culture,
social structure and technology. Although the sheer diversity of these people was
astonishing to the

I m going to ask Johannes if we can see the apartment again before we fly home so

the kitchen. I can t believe it has granite counters and beautiful wooden cabinetry. It s
obvious that an American had a hand in designing the apartment. We must open a

There were several mom and pop butcher shops, clothing stores, banks, bakeries and
a few small shops selling specialty items from the area. It seemed that anything our
hearts desired or we required to set up our home was available in Marsciano. In an
industrial neighborhood closer to approaching the highway, I noticed a warehouse
that appeared to be a Second Hand store. I was so excited and asked Vince to stop
so I could investigate. The huge store was filled to the rafters with used furniture,
house hold items, mirrors, doors, wrought iron and decorative objects. I was looking
forward to hunting for treasures when it was time to move in!
I must admit that we were exhausted when we arrived at B B Garibaldi. It had been

Bright and early the next morning, we returned to Marsciano for our meeting with
Johannes. Vince drove to the Rosetti Coffee Bar as if he had driven there a million
times. Although the coffee bar was located next to a tire shop in the industrial
neighborhood, it was also across the street from a winery and the freshly brewed
coffee smelled divine, the warm cornetti and pastries looked temptingly delicious.
Johannes arrived just as we were getting out of the car. He greeted us enthusiastically
and ordered cappuccinos while I settled at a suitable table for us to conduct business

47. The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
What does the title, The Omnivore s Dilemma exactly mean? Human beings are
omnivores. Omnivore comes from the Latin words omne meaning all or everything
and vorare meaning to eat or devour. The author Michael Pollan wrote this book to
inform the readers that the food choice they make have major consequences. There
are two main reasons why the foodin the United States is unhealthy.
An unhealthy decision in our modern diet is that human beings are eating too many
corn products. Farmers started feeding animals corn and it has a negative impact in
todays society. Animals such as cows and goats can make a meal out of grass and
that allows the animal, especially the cows, to get protein and carbohydrate but
unfortunately, cows are being forced

On September 1, 2015 in Fox Lake, Illinois, Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz a
30 year police veteran (Antlfinger, 2015) of the Lake Fox Police Department was
shot and killed by three suspects. According to Deputy Chris Covelli of the Lake
County Sheriff s Department, Tuesday morning, around 7:50 a.m., the officer radioed
he was pursuing three suspects, after looking into their suspicious activity ( Manhunt
In Fox Lake After PoliceOfficer Shot And Killed , 2015). Lt. Gliniewicz had spotted
the three suspects on his way to work along a roadway with nothing around but open
fields and abandoned looking businesses (Antlfinger, 2015). Lt. Gliniewicz told
dispatchers the men ran into a swampy area, and he requested a second unit
50. Julie Language Analysis
Review 1: Text
A. Overall comprehension
It is viable to assess that 3;3 year old Julie s language comprehension is on target
from analyzing these video clips, as development is fairly predictable for typically
developing children. J. understands both yes/no and more advanced wh word
questions, which emerge between Late Stage II to Early Stage III (p. 184). Cathy
says to J., Do you know when your birthday is? J. responds, June 22nd. She also
doesn t hesitate in answering Chris when he asks, Besides strawberries, what other
kind of berries do you like? J. does have trouble with why questions, which are later
developing (Late Stage III to Early Stage IV). When asked, Why is the baby bird
sad? J. ignores the question. Linguistic comprehension ... Show more content on

During this time, fast mapping is used to quickly incorporate words into the child s
lexicon (perhaps bistro will become one of them), sometimes at a rate of nine new
words per day (p.185 186). J s content includes parts of speech such as: articles (the,
a), main verbs (fly, eat), nouns (chair, nest), proper nouns (Chris, Max), pronouns (he,
they), adjectives (sad), and prepositions (in, on). Some examples of J s more complex
vocabulary include: museum, restaurant, macaroni, strawberries, raspberries, and
lollipop. When recapping Where the Wild Things Are, J. begins to make an error of
not using an antecedent for the pronoun (he), but backtracks to clarify. She says, So
he... Max, then puts his wild things suit on and sailed away to where the wild things
are. After she s introduced Max and the wild things, she goes on to use the correct
subjective pronouns (he and they). J. correctly sorts out that the singular pronoun he
works for Max, but when referring to the wild things, the group pronoun they is
51. The Career Of An Electrical Engineer
TITLE: THE CAREER OF AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Thesis: Electrical engineers are an imperative component of society.
Purpose: To inform the audience about the career of an electrical engineer.
INTRODUCTION
I.What is an electrical engineer?
A.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an electrical engineer is defined as
someone that can design, develop, test and supervise the manufacturing of electrical
equipment (BLS).
B.This is the traditional definition of what an electrical engineer does and it stands
true to this day. However, this definition does not completely encapsulate the field of
electrical engineering. This is because the field of electrical engineering is so
unfathomably vast that it can be summarized better if we say: It ... Show more content

Harnessing the power of electricity is the reason behind most of the advances made
by mankind.
1.Innovations such as: the television, the radio and even the light bulb itself were all
created by scientists who were masters of electrical engineering. These crucial
inventions seem like relics of the past so we can now look at modern day
achievements of electrical engineering. The most innovative products today include
wearable computing devices, eye tracking technology, immersive technology and
virtual reality (Murray).
B.Even though electrical engineers have proved monumental to our successes in the
past and the present. The sheer potential that this field has in the future will allow
electrical engineers to change the landscape of the world as we know it.
1.The main web page of Electrical Engineering from the University of Canterbury
talks about just this subject. They state that their students are making the world a
better place. How? Helping the environment through improved energy efficiency,
electric vehicles, electricity transmission, distribution and generation. (University of
Canterbury). Furthermore, electrical engineers are conducting research about new
renewable energy e.g, solar, wind, hydro, tidal. (University of Canterbury) and how to
utilize them to their maximum efficiency. If these engineers are able to make these
methods cost effective, then they might literally change the landscape of the world.
II.What does it take to
