The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon where gases like water vapor and carbon dioxide trap heat in the atmosphere, warming the planet. The main greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (56% of the effect) from burning fossil fuels, methane (18%) from animal agriculture and natural gas production, and nitrous oxide (6%) from coal-burning power plants. If greenhouse gas emissions continue unchecked, the consequences of climate change will be severe, so individuals and governments must take action to transition to renewable energy, adopt sustainable practices, and reduce pollution.
