2. WHAT IS GREEN HOUSE
EFFECT
The greenhouse effect is the process by which radiation
from a planet's atmosphere warms the planet's surface to a
temperature above what it would be without this
atmosphere.
a warming of Earth's surface and troposphere(the lowest
layer of the atmosphere) caused by the presence of water
vapour, carbon dioxide ,methane, and certain other gases
in the air.
3.
4. By their percentage contribution to the
greenhouse effect on Earth the four major
gases are
GREENHOUS GASES
•water vapor, ~50% (~75% including clouds)
•carbon dioxide, 9–26%
•methane, 4–9%
•ozone, 3–7%
5. Greenhouse gas, any gas that has the property of
absorbing infrared radiation (net heat energy) emitted
from Earth's surface and reradiating it back to Earth's
surface, thus contributing to the greenhouse effect.
Carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapour are the
most important greenhouse gases. (To a lesser extent,
surface-level ozone, nitrous oxides, and fluorinated
gases also trap infrared radiation.)
6. Climate change is caused by both natural factors
and human activities.
Natural processes include changes in the Earth's
orbit of the sun which causes changes in the sun's
intensity, plate tectonics changing the position and
size of the continents and volcanic activity
changing carbon emissions
CAUSES OF GREENHOUSE EFFECT
7. These human activities include the burning of fossil
fuels such as coal, oil, gas and peat in factories, the
carbon emissions from car exhausts, methane and
nitrous oxide emissions from agriculture and the change
of how land is being used for example deforestation and
urbunisatioN
Burning fossil fuels produces huge quantities
of carbon dioxide (CO2,) which is a
greenhouse gas.
8. 1.Emissions like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and
other greenhouses gases will remain in the
atmosphere for many years, making it impossible to
eliminate global warming for several decades.
2. According to the IPCC 2007 report, sea levels will
rise by 7-23 inches by the end of this century due to
global warming.
FACTS ABOUT GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
9. 3. The last two decades of the 20th century have
been hottest in the past 400 years, according to
climate studies.
4. The Arctic is one of the worst places to be
affected by global warming.
5. The Montana Glacier National Park has only25
glaciers instead of 150 that were there in the year
1910.
