Social ProblemsSocial Problems
A social problem is, by definition, an issue that
relates to society's perception of a person's
personal lives.
Different cultures have different perceptions and
what may be "normal" behavior in one society may
be a significant social issue in another society.
Social issues are distinguished from economic
issues.
The broad nature of solving a social problem lends
itself to many geographical challenges. In order to
simplify our search, we chose to focus on observing
urbanistic trends and issues in the Richmond City
location.

Based on a combination of research and
observation in the Richmond City location,
we chose 3 key social problems to expand
on. They were:
Learning Labor
Technology Overload

Our Social Problem is:
Technology Overload
Research and
Observation
The average young adult spends an hour and 15
minutes on their smartphones. The main reason-
-boredom. The consumers we spoke to knew
that their phones and the internet limited
interpersonal interaction. The consumption of
social media is based on fear. No one wants to
feel left out. The act of trying to stay current
leaves young people out of the party.
Causes:
Technology
Overload

What is Technology
Overload
We have defined technology overload as the
inability to be torn away from technology and
interact with others in a social, humanly
engaged atmosphere. Engagement with real
people starts with the off button.
