ICT can have both positive and negative impacts on education. Positively, it provides increased access to information, new ways of learning through interactive multimedia and virtual reality, and new job opportunities. However, it can also result in job loss through automation and offshoring. Additionally, excessive use of ICT risks reduced personal interaction and physical activity, which can negatively impact health. Video conferencing allows for communication between multiple locations simultaneously, while distance education and e-learning expand access to educational resources. ICT also enables impossible experiments to be performed virtually and allows for individualized learning and online exams.

 Although action research reveals that ICTs can empower
teachers and learners, provide a learning environment that helps
address different learning styles, and foster the development of
‘21st century skills’, current peer reviewed studies to support
these beliefs are still limited.
 Much of the literature dates from 2005 or earlier, which is a
number of generations in ‘technology years’. At that time, data
was often obtained by testing students’ computer skills, or by
measuring changes in their achievement after using specific
computer-assisted learning applications. Due to the short ‘shelf
life’ of studies related to the impact of ICT on student
achievement and engagement, this analysis examines mainly
studies published in the last five years

4. POSITIVE IMPACTS OF ICT
 Access to information: Possibly the greatest effect of ICT on individuals is
the huge increase in access to information and services that has
accompanied the growth of the Internet. Some of the positive aspects of
this increased access are better, and often cheaper, communications,
such as VoIP phone and Instant Messaging. In addition, the use of ICT to
access information has brought new opportunities for leisure and
entertainment, the facility to make contacts and form relationships with
people around the world, and the ability to obtain goods and services from
a wider range of suppliers.Improved access to education, e.g. distance
learning and on-line tutorials. New ways of learning, e.g. interactive multi-
media and virtual reality. New job opportunities, e.g. flexible and mobile
working, virtual offices and jobs in the communications industry.New tools,
new opportunities: The second big effect of ICT is that it gives access to
new tools that did not previously exist. A lot of these are tied into the
access to information mentioned above, but there are many examples of
stand-alone ICT systems as well

5. NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF ICT
 Job loss: One of the largest negative effects of ICT can be the loss of a person’s job.
This has both economic consequences, loss of income, and social consequences,
loss of status and self esteem.Job losses may occur for several reasons,
including:Manual operations being replaced by automation. e.g. robots replacing
people on an assembly line.Jobexport. e.g. Data processing work being sent to other
countries where operating costs are lower.Multiple workers being replaced by a
smaller number who are able to do the same amount of work. e.g. A worker on a
supermarket checkout can serve more customers per hour if a bar-code scanner
linked to a computerized till is used to detect goods instead of the worker having to
enter the item and price manuallyReduced personal interaction: Being able to work
from home is usually regarded as being a positive effect of using ICT, but there can
be negative aspects as well. Most people need some form of social interaction in
their daily lives and if they do not get the chance to meet and talk with other people
they may feel isolated and unhappy.Reduced physical activity: A third negative effect
of ICT is that users may adopt a more sedentary lifestyle. This can lead to health
problems such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. Many countries have
workplace regulations to prevent problems such as repetitive strain injury or
eyestrain, but lack of physical exercise is rarely addressed as a specific health
hazard.

 Videoconferencing (VC) is the conduct of a videoconference (also known
as a video conference or video teleconference) by a set of
telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to
communicate by simultaneous two-way video and audio transmissions. It
has also been called 'visual collaboration' and is a type of groupware.
Videoconferencing differs from videophone calls in that it's designed to
serve a conference or multiple locations rather than individuals.[1] It is an
intermediate form of video telephony, first used commercially in Germany
during the late-1930s and later in the United States during the early 1970s
as part of AT&T's development of Picture phone technology. With the
introduction of relatively low cost, high capacity broadband
telecommunication services in the late 1990s, coupled with powerful
computing processors and video compression techniques,
videoconferencing has made significant inroads in business, education,
medicine and media.
