What is GreenBuilding?
 GreenBuildings are also Knowas “ Green Costruction or Sustainable Buildings”.
 GreenBuildings refer to application of process that are “Environmentally Responsible and Resource Efficient
throughout the Lifespan of Building from “Planning ofbuilding toDemolition of buiding”
 TheGreen Building practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility,
durability, and comfort
 Taipei 101, the tallest and largest green building in world since 2011 situated in Taipei the capital city of Taiwan
Why Build Green ?
IMPACTS OF BUILDINGS ON ENVIRONMENT AND
RESOURCES
40 % of Primary Energy Use
72% of Electricity Consumption
39% CO2 Emmision
13.6% Portable Water Consumption
Green Buildings Can Reduce
How to Construct Green Buildings ?
• Methods for construction of green buildings
• Materials used for construction of green buildings
Methods of Green Building
construction
• Prefabrication materials in controlled environment.
• Construction waste management.
• Managing site for Improved Environment
• Lean Manufacturing to Reduce Energy.
• Material Section
Materials Used for construction
• Unfired clay bricks
• Rammed Earth
• Bamboo
• Recycled Plastic
• Ashcrete
• Straw Bales and many more
What arethe rating systems?
• LEED (US)
• BREEAM (UK)
• CASBEE (Japan)
• DGNB (Germany)
• Green Star (Australia)
• IGBC/LEED (India)
We are Going to Know about LEED and IGBC Rating Systems
 LEED
(Leadershipin Energy andEnvironmentalDesign)
• Created by the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC)
in 1998
• Nationally recognized standard for Green Building
• Adapted for other countries
• Canada
• Australia
• Hong Kong

 IGBC
Indian Green Buildings Council
• The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)
was formed by the Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII) in 2001.
• The council is based out of the CII Green
Business Centre, Hyderabad which is India’s
1st Platinum rated green building .
• The vision of the council is to enable
‘Sustainable built environment for all.
• IGBC is the country's premier body for green
building certification and allied services.
• Ratings are taken as LEED Ratings
• 15,000 MWh of Energy per million sq ft. per annum
• 45,000 KL of Water per million sq ft. per annum
• Installation of 30 MW of Renewable Energy in IGBC certified projects
• Reduced CO2 emissions by 12,000 tons per million sq ft. per annum
• Diverted 500 Tons of construction waste from landfill per million sq ft.
• 4,400+ projects registered with IGBC from various parts of India and
abroad, amounting to a total footprint of 4.72 billion sq. ft.
