The Great Migration from the rural South to urban cities in the North led to increased urbanization and the growth of cities with new skyscrapers. This caused the mass migration of African Americans from the South seeking job opportunities in the North, resulting in the formation of ghettos. During this time, there was also a rise in African American awareness, power, and culture as seen through the Harlem Renaissance movement in music, art, poetry, and writers like Langston Hughes.
