Length Investigation

 Aim:
 To investigate the relationship between total finger length
 and arm length.

 Hypothesis:
 I predict that all the fingers put together will be longer then
 the arm.

 Materials:
    1 measuring tape (150 cm)
    Scrap paper
    1 clipboard
    Pencil
    Eraser
    Pencil-sharpener
    19 people

             Method:

1. Draw a simple but neat and specific table, on the scrap piece of
   paper.
2. Make 7 vertical and 19 horizontal columns.
3. Call someone and ask them if you can measure them.
4. Measure their thumb, index, middle, ring and pinky finger.
5. Record measurement in the graph.
6. Measure the arm length, starting from the end of the shoulder, tothe
   tip of the middle finger.
7. Record your results in the table.

        Conclusion:
        My hypothesis was incorrect.All the fingers put together
        were shorter than the arm length. On average, the arm
        length was 27.cm longer than total finger length.

         Discussion:
It was easy to take measurements because most people
were kind and helped us but it was sometimes hard
because some people didnotwant to be measured.
It would be better if we measured more than 20 people,
because this would give us a more trustworthy result.
We should also think about measuring people of
different ages to see if the results are similar or
different. Next time, I would like to investigate the
relationship between head circumference and arm
length.

On average, the arm length was 27.cm longer than total finger length. Discussion:
  • 3. It was easy to take measurements because most people were kind and helped us but it was sometimes hard because some people didnotwant to be measured. It would be better if we measured more than 20 people, because this would give us a more trustworthy result. We should also think about measuring people of different ages to see if the results are similar or different. Next time, I would like to investigate the relationship between head circumference and arm length.
