Doctors working in government hospitals threatened to go on strike from May 26 if their demands regarding salaries and allowances are not met. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association, representing 15,000 resident doctors, wrote to the Prime Minister urging revisions to recommendations that they say discriminate against doctors. The recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission reduced the non-practicing allowance from 25% to 20% contrary to doctors' demands to increase it to 40%. FORDA also demanded uniform pay scales, night shift allowances and a uniform central residency scheme for resident doctors across India.
