Memorandum Of Association Constitution of Company.pptseri bangash
www.seribangash.com
A Memorandum of Association (MOA) is a legal document that outlines the fundamental principles and objectives upon which a company operates. It serves as the company's charter or constitution and defines the scope of its activities. Here's a detailed note on the MOA:
Contents of Memorandum of Association:
Name Clause: This clause states the name of the company, which should end with words like "Limited" or "Ltd." for a public limited company and "Private Limited" or "Pvt. Ltd." for a private limited company.
https://seribangash.com/article-of-association-is-legal-doc-of-company/
Registered Office Clause: It specifies the location where the company's registered office is situated. This office is where all official communications and notices are sent.
Objective Clause: This clause delineates the main objectives for which the company is formed. It's important to define these objectives clearly, as the company cannot undertake activities beyond those mentioned in this clause.
www.seribangash.com
Liability Clause: It outlines the extent of liability of the company's members. In the case of companies limited by shares, the liability of members is limited to the amount unpaid on their shares. For companies limited by guarantee, members' liability is limited to the amount they undertake to contribute if the company is wound up.
https://seribangash.com/promotors-is-person-conceived-formation-company/
Capital Clause: This clause specifies the authorized capital of the company, i.e., the maximum amount of share capital the company is authorized to issue. It also mentions the division of this capital into shares and their respective nominal value.
Association Clause: It simply states that the subscribers wish to form a company and agree to become members of it, in accordance with the terms of the MOA.
Importance of Memorandum of Association:
Legal Requirement: The MOA is a legal requirement for the formation of a company. It must be filed with the Registrar of Companies during the incorporation process.
Constitutional Document: It serves as the company's constitutional document, defining its scope, powers, and limitations.
Protection of Members: It protects the interests of the company's members by clearly defining the objectives and limiting their liability.
External Communication: It provides clarity to external parties, such as investors, creditors, and regulatory authorities, regarding the company's objectives and powers.
https://seribangash.com/difference-public-and-private-company-law/
Binding Authority: The company and its members are bound by the provisions of the MOA. Any action taken beyond its scope may be considered ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the company and therefore void.
Amendment of MOA:
While the MOA lays down the company's fundamental principles, it is not entirely immutable. It can be amended, but only under specific circumstances and in compliance with legal procedures. Amendments typically require shareholder

of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions

At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

medical equipment, health
insurance, and most importantly,
hospitals. A country like India has its
competitive advantage in its huge
section of well-trained and
practicing medical professionals.
This has made India very cost-
competitive when compared to
other Asian and Western countries.
The availability of hospitals and their
emergence is also playing a major
role in the growth of the healthcare
industry in India. According to an
independent report, the hospital
space in India is expected to grow
CAGR of 16 to 17% to around Rs. 8.6
trillion by (Financial Year) FY22 from
Rs. 4 trillion in FY17. This data
suggests that the hospitals in India
are showing a valued growth rate
with respect to the overall
expansion of the medical and
healthcare industry of the country.

10. The Indian Healthcare space
has seen tremendous
growth over the years. The
dynamics of the medical industry
has affected each and every patient
or a person seeking healthcare at an
economical level. There have been
times when the treatment and cures
of a particular condition have been
discovered, but the implementation
of it is very expensive and time-
consuming. Whereas, some
conditions have been so normalized
that, their treatment is provided
free of cost.
Now, how to balance these two
extremities has been a tough
question to answer. There are very
few options available that can
mediate between these two
extreme situations and provide
optimum solutions with respect to
it. Some medical organizations and
healthcare services providers are
diving deep into this situation and
striving to come up with solutions
that are feasible for everyone.
One such healthcare facility is
VishwaRaj Hospital, dedicated to
providing quality and affordable
healthcare treatments in Pune. It
initiated providing services in 2016
as a 300-bed hospital. Now, it is
recognized amongst the top
emerging tertiary care hospitals.
From the past three years, the goal
of the hospital has been to offer
‘exceptional care to every patient
every day.’ With an aim to create the
best healthcare experience
possible, the hospital uses
advanced medical technology,
comfortable stay options, and a
wide-spread network of
ambulances, etc. “We have a team of
experienced yet compassionate
doctors that are committed to
healing a wide array of health
problems and help you live a
healthier tomorrow,” says Dr. Aditi
Karad, Executive Director of
VishwaRaj Hospital.
Visionary Leadership
With a dedicated allied health
professionals team and 24×7 back
up senior consultants, Dr. Aditi
spearheads VishwaRaj Hospital
which is providing the best services
11. for the most critical departments.
She works with the intent of
delivering qualitative and affordable
medical facilities to the masses. Her
dream to enter in the medical field
with sheer dedication and
commitment towards this noble
cause has evidently led to the rise
of VishwaRaj Hospital.
She believes that there is a huge
gap in the country, in terms of
people’s demand for quality
healthcare and accessible
availability of such facilities. “If a
healthcare solution is not affordable
to all then it is not a solution at all,”
explains Dr. Aditi.
Dr. Aditi is an MBBS, but she has
also completed her MA in Hospital
Management from the University of
Leeds. Her proficiency in hospital
management and adept leadership
qualities has made VishwaRaj stand
top amongst its competition. Its
soaring success is due to her
meticulous attention to each
process. She has truly become an
epitome of women empowerment
by successfully running such a huge
multi-speciality hospital.
Dynamics of VishwaRaj Hospital
The ground reality of the current
state of India’s healthcare sector is
that it requires thorough facilitation
of affordable healthcare services. A
lot of people have to even sell their
houses to avail appropriate
healthcare in India, which is very
disheartening to see. This
particularly has driven Dr. Aditi and
the team at VishwaRaj to work
towards the cause inherently.
The hospital, under her guidance,
continuously works to achieve the

13. optimum operational efficiency of
the facility. It includes availing
certain packages that prove helpful
to patients with long-term benefits.
Every process or SOPs are set in
such a way that, all the activities
carried out by the team of
VishwaRaj contribute towards
pocket-friendly healthcare for the
patients.
Especially, the cardiology
department of the hospital has
become one of the prime focuses in
the venue. It is providing packages
for the treatment of heart-related
issues in a specific approach. The
cost to the hospital is calculated per
treatment when it comes to
cardiology services which result to
be very feasible for the patients.
Amongst many facets, VishwaRaj
Hospital is focused on building its
medical tourism department in
order to provide quality medical
treatments and services to guests
from outside the country in an
affordable manner.
Medical tourism is moving at a fast
pace in India. Every Hospital is
trying to grasp its vast market share
and have a piece of the pie just to
increase its credibility and financial
position by putting efforts into
acquiring patients from abroad. The
availability of good medical
infrastructure and well-qualified
doctors makes India a suitable
Medical hub for people coming
from different countries in the
hopes of efficient and economical
healthcare services. Hence,
VishwaRaj is also making consistent
efforts to facilitate excellent
services in this domain as well.
The Point of Distinction
The trends in the Indian medical
sector keep changing rapidly and
the most important array that is
grabbing the attention is the
daycare procedures. According to
Dr. Aditi, the number of patients
coming to the hospital and leaving
after getting the treatment, it all
comes under the daycare
procedures.
While improving the procedures,
reducing the stay time of patients is
what Vishwaraj is putting its efforts
into. Initially, when the hospital was
launched, the services Vishwaraj
provided were more of secondary
and a little bit tertiary in nature.
Now, after three years, the hospital
has moved on to facilitate all kinds
of tertiary level medical services
with its fully functional resources
(other than transplant services).
Though in 2020, the hospital is
planning to bring-in the liver
transplant services for its patients
which is a big plus for the medical
facility. The diversified focus of the
hospital will be on healthcare

improvement.
In healthcare services, the centre of
excellence for VishwaRaj remains
Cardiac Sciences, Neuro Sciences,
Critical Care, Mother and Child Care,
Renal and Urology,
Gastroenterology and Joint
Replacement. Apart from doing
cardiac transplant, the hospital is
equipped to perform all kinds of
surgeries under its domain with all
its dynamic resources. All of these
services are upgraded from the last
year which has proved to be an
advantageous change for
VishwaRaj.
In academics, the hospital is
facilitating DNB and CPS courses.
Dr. Aditi believes, “We can never
grow without academics.” 8 months
ago Vishwaraj was recognized by
the NABH as well. Through its CSR
activities, VishwaRaj instils a great
amount of time and resources in
building up the strata of society
which is under-privileged.
If there is a girl child born in the
family, the hospital provides a 50%
concession on the total bill amount
of the services charged for that
particular family. It is just one of the
social initiatives that the hospital
carries out as it operates as a
charitable trust. VishwaRaj Hospital
is making a difference in a lot of
lives and is on its way to bring in
more happiness for its patients
from every section of society by
constantly enabling affordable
healthcare.

18. In this era of the busy lifestyle and no time for taking
care of themselves, people are facing numerous health
issues. When people don’t focus on their health,
inevitably they are exposed to diseases and most common
of them are heart-related. High cholesterol and an increase
in blood pressure is the result of an unhealthy lifestyle and
unbalanced eating habits. Inherently people then require to
opt for medical facilities that are quite expensive and
sometimes put a heavy toll on the body while undergoing
heavy treatments.
To contemplate the same, there are a few healthcare
facilities that are enabling therapies and treatments that are
natural and less strenuous on the body. One such healthcare
facility is Madhavbaug. Headquartered in Thane
Maharashtra, it was established in 2006. Its tagline,
“Whatever it takes” signifies the dedication that the team of
Madhavbaug puts in to help cater to the needs of the
patients that come to the hospital. The hospital employs
around 1000 people who work tirelessly to ensure that the
services provided to the patients remain uncompromised.
Here is the story of Madhavbaug in the words of Dr. Rohit
Madhav Sane, Founder & CEO of the esteemed
healthcare facility in an exclusive interview with Insights
Success:
IS - Brief us about the journey of your healthcare facility–
origin, inception, early issues, and success stories.
Dr. Rohit - Madhavbaug was started with a mission to
tackle the growing epidemic of heart disease in India by
providing a nonsurgical and safe solution. Madhavbaug
opened its first Hospital at Khopoli in 2006. The hospital
did very well, there was a large demand for growing
patients which the Hospital alone could not meet, and also
Khopoli was a bit inconvenient to travel for a lot of
patients. Keeping in mind the growing needs of patients, I
decided to make the therapy more accessible and opened
Madhavbaug’s first 5 clinics. Today Madhavbaug has over
200+ clinics across 7 states in India
IS – Enlighten us about your journey as a professional
spearheading Madhavbaug along with your contribution
to the medical and healthcare space.
Dr. Rohit – I founded Madhavbaug in 2006 and have
successfully established it as a dependable option for
treating heart ailments with its unique approach of using
non-invasive, multidisciplinary and pioneering therapies. I
have been carrying out its operations as the CEO ever since.

cardiac disease.
IS - Kindly talk about the multi-

services?
Dr. Rohit - Madhavbaug’s Apex

use cutting-edge technology to
recommend specialized diets,
physiotherapy, and lifestyle
modifications to patients in order to
minimize the risk of heart disease.
The main focus is on controlling
the risk factors of heart disease and

Shuddhikaran has helped over 10 lakh+ patients reverse
chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease,
hypertension and obesity
IS - What kind of challenges has the hospital faced
industry-wise?
Dr. Rohit - High competition has been the biggest
challenge that most hospitals are facing in urban areas.
However, the smaller markets are still relatively untapped.
We have a strong network in both the urban as well as rural
markets and looking at expanding in both the markets.
IS - How have technological advancements and
innovation in the medical and healthcare industry affected
your methods of delivering services?
Dr. Rohit - Yes, our belief is that technology will be the
biggest differentiator in the coming future. We are a tech-
first company, and use the best systems across delivery as
well as management/operations. Healthcare delivery is
currently at an inflection point where newer applications
that are coming in are making the whole delivery process
much smoother and transparent.
IS - How is your facility contributing to affordable
healthcare in India?
Dr. Rohit - Our SHS treatment is easily accessible and
affordable. In fact, our treatments go beyond affordability
where we actually save medical expenses for our patients.
We have helped lakhs of patients avoid surgeries such as
bypass and angioplasty when it comes to diabetes and
hypertension, we have helped our patients get rid of
medicines that they were consuming on a regular basis with
an improved quality of life.
IS - Name a few awards and accolades received by the
facility since its inception.
Dr. Rohit – Our services have received accolades by noted
luminaries such as Mr. Nitin Gadkari, and Anna Hazare Ji
among others. Among many accolades globally as well as
in India, Madhavbaug has received awards such as:

Dr. Indeevar V Mishra, the Chief Proprietor of the Bhala Netra Eye
Hospital has completed Diplomat of National Board(DNB) from the
prestigious and world-renowned Sankara eye hospital, Tamil Nadu.
He has served as Medical officer in the Aravind Eye Hospital, Tamil
Nadu where he underwent a training in art of Advanced
Phacoemulsification. He has also worked as Anterior & Medical
Retina Consultant at Agarwal Eye Hospital, and has spent several
months in Africa serving the downtrodden.
Later, he joined as a glaucoma trainee in one of the oldest eye
hospitals of India, MM Joshi eye hospital, Karnataka. Later, he held
other administrative responsibilities in the hospital including principal
of the College of Optometry, and a junior in-charge of the
community eye health in the hospital.
Dr. Indeevar has a long medical career. He is well-experienced
performing thousands of eye surgeries of Cornea, Glaucoma,
Cataract, Refractive, and Oculoplasty. He potentially and vigilantly
performs difficult and complicated Cataract and anterior segment
surgeries.
He has received numerous accolades and has presented various

Glancing Back at The Journey
The idea to serve the patients in the metro
city like Mumbai striked Dr Indeevar V
Mishra while he was practicing as a trainee
in the prestigious Aravind eye hospital.
Post founding the hospital, the early days
were demanding. Since, the hospital was
built on the fundamental principle, ‘low
cost high volume’ approach, the
consultation charges and the surgical costs
were unable to lessen its financial burden..
But as the time passed by, and as the
patients realized that Bhala Netra provides
world class facilities at affordable rates, the
revenue started to pour in as large number
of patients started opting the services been
provided at the hospital. Since then Bhala
Netra has never let down the patients in
providing affordable and effective surgeries
that can potentially cure the eye diseases
and light the darkness.

Tending to grow strong along the way,
the team was struggling to materialize
their potential in the initial years.
Arranging funds for securing the
premises in the big city like Mumbai
was the hardest challenge. In the initial
days, Dr.Indeevar invested much of his
time to overcome the financial
constraints and served his best in all
the possible ways he can to establish
the infrastructure.
Ultimately, facing these challenges
individually and collectively, a
moderately large hospital with expert
surgeons and convincing ability to treat
the patients was set up on 2 of

To this day, the hospital has catered

generations residing in the area. The world’s worst
industrial disaster dubbed the ‘Bhopal Gas Tragedy’ saw
huge quantities of Methylisocynite (MIC) gas leaking from
the Union Carbide’s Pesticides plant, killing and maiming
thousands in the area. But the tragedy didn’t stop there with
the worst yet to come. Those who survived now stood at
high risks of cancer which meant that not just them, but also
the following generations, had a fight ahead to put on with.
Cancer treatment was very nascent in those days and people
had to travel to metros, especially Delhi and Mumbai now
and then. The expensive treatment combined with the
frequent travel expenditure burnt a hole in the pockets of
many families. The grim situation also saw many affected
people accepting death as their fate rather than going
around for treatment. This provoked some respected senior

To keep up with the technological
advancements, it installed a Cobalt
machine for Radiotherapy in 1994,
later on, added Linear Accelerator –
IMRT and then Halcyon IGRT for
Radiotherapy and Gamma Camera for
Nuclear Medicine. The Hospital also
believes that development in
technological advancement and
innovation has helped in the cure of
cancer patients, prolonging life,
improving the quality of life of
patients. In other words, it is a boon for
patients. Earlier patients were suffering
from the disease and gradually melting
down from the complication of the
disease. But now there’s hope and
therapy to deal with it. Technology is
certainly helping the hospital progress
towards its mission to enhance the
lives of cancer patients by providing
comprehensive and quality treatment
and care with kindness, integrity, and
compassion.
Countering Challenges and
Spreading Awareness
JNCH, since inception, has been taking
long strides towards establishing itself
as a premier name in Cancer
Treatment. But the journey has not
been a rosy one. The hospital is a
non-profitable institute and serving the
low socio-economic group. The
diagnostic and therapeutic medicine
and equipment are very costly and it
has to provide the latest technology
treatment to its patients. So financial
constraint is the main cause of concern,
another constraint is the availability of
trained manpower and exodus of
manpower who leave after getting
the experience.
But challenges don’t stop the hospital
in serving the population with
compassion. The hospital has been
developed for the poor community
who cannot go to metros and corporate
hospitals. Villagers, BPL people, Govt.
employees, PSU workers, Army
people, Gas Victims, Ayushman Bharat
patients are its main beneficiaries. The
hospital also regularly conducts cancer
awareness programs, Tobacco
cessation and cancer detection camps
in nearby Cities, Industries, Schools,
Colleges, Offices, etc. To its credit,
there are several awards and accolades.

They should also obtain a letter from
their medical consultant at home
giving details of any relevant medical
history. These precautions are helpful
for the patient if follow-up is needed
after return home.
Why Do People Seek Treatment
Abroad?
Several factors influence people’s
decision to seek medical care overseas.
Most people travel for medical care as
the treatment is cheaper in another
country. Immigrants staying in the
United States return to their home
country for health care. Many a time,
people travel abroad for a particular
treatment procedure or therapy that is
not available in the United States like
termination of pregnancy, stem cell
therapy or specific fertility procedures.
Popular procedures that people
undergo medical tourism trips are:
• Cosmetic Surgery
• Dentistry
• IVF and Surrogacy
• Stem Cell Therapy, and
• Heart Surgery
Increasing demand for overseas
treatment in several parts of the world
is due to several factors like:
• Worsening of the global
environment
• The appearance of previously
unknown diseases and illnesses
• Unreliability of doctors in local
medical centers
The other reasons for patients choosing
to pursue overseas treatment include:
• Financial incapability: Patients
who seek medical treatment abroad
spend usually cannot afford to pay
for the same treatment in their own
country. Apart from this, most
health insurance companies do not
cover the costs of the specific
procedure that also prompt patients
to seek overseas treatment.
• Long waitlist: Certain medical
procedures have a very long waitlist
for the patient in her own country.
This prompts her to seek overseas
treatment to be treated in time and
avoid delay in medical attendance.
• Unavailability: Unavailability of
certain medical procedures in the
country where the patient currently
lives also prompts the patient to
seek treatment overseas.
• Holiday Abroad: The best
incentive to choose medical care
abroad is the holiday that comes
with it and to avoid long waiting
lists to receive the treatment in their
own countries.
What Are The Risks Of Doing
Medical Treatment Abroad?
The specific risks of traveling abroad
for medical care depend on the
procedures performed and the country
being visited. The general issues have
been identified:
• Communication challenge/
barrier: Receiving medical care
and facility at a country where you
do not fluently speak the language
might increase misunderstandings
about your care.
• Poor Quality Treatment: There is
a possibility that your medication
may be counterfeit or of poor
quality in some under-developed
countries.
• Resistant Bacteria: Resistant
bacteria may be more common in
countries you have chosen to travel
for your medical care as antibiotic
resistance is a global problem
today.
• Flying to Home Soon After the
Surgery: Flying after surgery or
some particular treatment
procedures can increase the risk for
blood clots.
What You Can Do To Combat
These Risks?
• While planning to travel overseas
for medical care, always consult a
travel medicine provider before 4
to 6 weeks of the trip and vital risks
related to the procedure before and
after the procedure as you travel.
• Make sure that any current medical
conditions you have are well
controlled, and that your regular
health care provider knows about
your plans for travel and medical
care overseas.
• Check the health care provider’s
qualifications and facility
credentials as per the foreign
standards for health care providers
before you register for any
treatment.
• Make sure to have a written
agreement with the health care
provider defining the treatments,
supplies, and costs covered in the
trip.
• In case you are traveling to a
country where they do not speak
your language, think about the
means through which you will
communicate with the doctor and
other medical attendants.
• Carry copies of medical records
with you including prescriptions, a
list of all the medicines you take,
the laboratory reports and other
diagnostic studies related to the

may have. The list of medicines
should include the generic names,
brand name, dosage and
manufacturers’ details.
• Attend follow-up care with your
local health care provider before
you leave for medical tourism
abroad.
• Check whether the activities such
as sunbathing, drinking alcohol, or
swimming are permitted after
surgery or not.
• Get copies of all your medical
records from the health care
provider before you return home.
What Should You Consider In
Choosing the Destination Country
and the Right Clinic For You?
Choosing a Destination Country:
After deciding to pursue overseas
treatment, the first thing you have to do
is to choose a suitable hospital in a
suitable country. You need to decide on
a country that can meet your medical
needs before choosing a hospital.
Besides knowing the basics about the
country, your decision to finalize the
country should be based on the factors
listed below:
• Current Political Condition of the
Country: The most important thing
to consider a country is its safety.
Specific regions of a country can be
unsafe to enter for foreigners. Have
a thorough grasp of the country and
the city you are traveling to before
embarking on your journey. Also,
consider the current weather
conditions and prepare yourself
accordingly.
• Quality and Specialization:
Consider the specialization of the
country you are considering in
regards to common healthcare
standards and its reputation for a
particular field or procedures.
• Distance: You should consider the
distance of the destination country
when choosing a medical procedure
to be performed there. Make sure
that the country is close enough to
yours to avoid sitting on a plane for
too long. In many cases, it saves
you some money.
• Cost: We firmly believe in the fact
that healthcare quality should never
be compromised at any cost.
However, the cost of
accommodation, transportation, and
living should be considered before
traveling as these expenses vary
from country to country. It is wise
to choose a country that is
relatively less expensive and at the
same time does not decline in
comparison.
Choosing a Medical Center: Once
you have few countries in mind, the
next thing to do is to ‘choose a medical
center’. Your decision of hospital
should be based on the vital factors
listed below:
• Accreditation of the Hospital: The
hospital you are considering for
your treatment procedure should be
locally or internationally
recognized in the form of
accreditations by international
accreditation bodies.
• Cost of the Medical Procedure:
Cost of a particular medical
procedure usually varies between
different hospitals. Compare the
price range of different hospitals
while considering your medical
procedure to find out which one is
the most financially beneficial for
you, provided that you do not
compromise for the sake of cheaper
costs.
• Affiliation of the Medical Center:
Affiliation of the hospital indicates
its quality. Hence, confirm the
affiliation before actually finalizing
the medical center.
• Facility, Equipment, And
Technology of the Medical
Center: Make sure that the hospital
you are going to choose has all the
required facilities and technology
to accommodate your treatment.
Inquire about new methods of
treatment at the hospital, and
follow-up care for its patients
before making the final decision.
• Doctors, Surgeons, And Hospital
Staffs: Thoroughly check the
information of the doctors/surgeons
offering the treatment and make
sure that they are adequately
qualified, trained and licensed.
Check the previous experiences of
patients in performing the same
treatment procedure that you are
planning to have. Also, confirm if
the hospital staff and doctors/
surgeons can communicate with
you in a mutually understood
language.
• Safety Profile: While choosing a
hospital, thoroughly check for their
safety profile including Statistics,
Success rates, and previous
accidents (if any). Also, look for
reviews and feedbacks of patients
who have previously been to the
hospital for further reference.
So, the important thing is to research
and research! Research optimally and
experience great medical tourism!

He firmly believes that customizing healthcare solutions to
varying socio-economic, geographic and demographic
imperatives is the most appropriate way to handle
country’s health problems especially in the context of rural
India. He has been working with the missionary zeal to
educate rural masses on medical education by frequently
organizing camps to focus on issues like sanitation,
personal hygiene, periodic medical check-ups, nutrition,
safe drinking water, female healthcare, childcare, basic life
saving techniques, basic life support training and creation
of village level health committees. These steps have
resulted in strengthening the rural healthcare delivery
system, thus ameliorating the health standards of rural
masses.
EXEMPLIFYING LEADERSHIP
Selflessly Providing Healthcare
Some of the biggest challenges faced by the
hospital during the initial days were the handling
of trauma victims and medico-legal issues.
Equipping Trauma Care with vascular, neuro,
plastic and ortho surgeons round the clock was
also another big challenge the hospital faced.
But as time passed, the hospital successfully
implemented all the factors required. Soon, the
hospital gained the people’s trust as it started
providing medical care at an affordable rate.
Every specialty and subspecialty is attended with
consultants who fulfill a requisite. This practice
of privileging doctors according to their
expertise, knowledge and skill base was another
significant milestone in the quality of clinical
care provided.
Apart from providing excellent healthcare,
Yashoda Hospital gives great importance to its
employees. The management follows the
employee’s first attitude which helps the team to
stay strong and together. This, in turn, develops a
sense of ownership and commitment in the
different job roles they perform and work
together as one family.
As mentioned before, Dr. Arora has been
selflessly working towards providing medical
assistance to the rural population. He has
successfully held various medical camps. These
medical camps included specialists, paramedical
staff and necessary drug delivery staff to the
areas needed.
After the camp, it was followed up by
workshops where people were educated on the

46. Indian Healthcare
An industry on the Move and Some
Challenges it Faces
O
ver the last few decades
the Indian healthcare
industry has grown in
leaps and bounds from clinician’s
par excellence and multispecialty
surgeons who have featured on
international news channels for
performing complex surgeries to
innumerable medical facilities that
boast of having the most advanced
technologies and equipment, India
can be pitted against any medical
facility in any developed country.
While people from all over the
world flock to India for treatments,
surgeries, and procedures, many
Indians still find healthcare an
extremely expensive and
inaccessible affair.
As a doctor and a consultant who
has been involved in hospital
management for 19 years, I am
going to share some of the many
challenges that the Indian
healthcare industry needs to
overcome to become a beacon of
light and a refuge to the billion
plus population. For me the
biggest challenge that we face in
our Indian healthcare industry as
of today is in providing “Access to
Affordable Quality healthcare”.
Access to Healthcare
“Access” to healthcare is one
of the biggest challenges faced in
India. As per published statistics at
whatever site you look at for this
data, the numbers of doctors,
nurses and hospital beds required
per 1000 population is way below
the mark, and if we break it
down to rural Vs urban population
the statistics are even more
alarming. There is a higher
concentration of healthcare
facilities and services in urban
areas whereas a majority of the
population still lives in rural
areas which means they have little
or no access to healthcare and the
availability of emergency
healthcare is non- existent.
Affordable Healthcare
The second challenge that
most Indians face is the price
factor. How affordable is quality
healthcare in India and how
many people have medical
insurance? Research states that
only 20-25 % of people have
some form of health insurance
and once again the urban areas
outscore against the rural areas.
The new government policy
“National Health Protection
Scheme” which aims at providing
healthcare insurance to an
additional 41% of our population
has been implemented thus
ensuring that the people who do
not have health insurance and
cannot afford healthcare
will now have access to
healthcare. The numbers are
huge, the cost involved is
phenomenal. This scheme is a
giant step forward in the right
direction and a game changer
of magnanimous proportion.
Quality Healthcare
In the last decade the awareness
of quality healthcare and
accreditation programs like JCI,
NABH, NABL, have become
popular in India. While getting
accredited may be a milestone for
many hospitals the awareness on
quality has come at a cost. I have
repeatedly stressed throughout
my career that quality means
doing the right thing 24/7, 365
days of the year especially when
no one is looking.

48. Accreditation is a sort of validation
that hospitals are doing things
correctly. Sadly, accreditation has
taken precedence over quality and
now the focus is on getting
accredited and using that
accreditation symbol to attract
patients. More often hospitals go
all out to score well on the
accreditation survey. The data
recorded is not as per practice
observed but as per what would
look good on a survey. It is more of
a performance put forth for “those
five / three days” of accreditation
(depending on which accreditation
survey the hospital is undergoing).
My question to hospitals seeking
the accreditation symbol is, if the
accreditation symbol is just a
validation of the hospital
maintaining high standards in
quality and performance, why
would you want to even display or
flaunt that? Shouldn’t you be
pursuing quality and excellence
irrespective of accreditation
especially when it comes to
people’s lives? I have not seen
hotels displaying a symbol saying
dine here because food is prepared
hygienically or airlines saying fly
with me because we are accident
proof, yet healthcare organizations
proudly exhibit their accreditation
symbols on everything thing they
can. Shouldn’t hospital be safe all
the time. Accreditation has made
the hospital system more efficient
and made hospitals raise their
standards of quality but a good
hospital that cares for their patients
will offer quality healthcare
whether or not they are accredited
and these hospitals will always
have an overflow of patients.
Multidisciplinary Involvement and
Talent Drain
Paramedical associates like nurses,
pharmacists, dieticians,
physiotherapist and technicians play
an important role in delivering
holistic and complete care. These
healthcare professionals spend the
most amount of time with the
patient pre and post treatment. In
spite of their long hours of labor do
they get the recognition, respect and
credit for the work they do? Indian
nurses are sought out all over the
world which in itself is a testimony
of their clinical skill, dedication and
hard work. The question is why
hospitals in India are not able to
retain their nurses/ other
paramedical associates? Why do
these associates study here but
prefer to go out of the country to
work? Is it the poor remuneration as
healthcare is still viewed primarily
as a physician’s domain? This needs
to be addressed by the healthcare
industry to limit the number of
paramedical associates moving out
which will help in our goal of
providing accessible, affordable and
quality healthcare to one and all.
Once the healthcare industry in
India deals with these
challenges, it will not just grow
and glow on the global
platform, it will also ensure that
all Indians will be able to enjoy
the benefits of unlimited access
to affordable quality healthcare.
