Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Tuesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the alleged refusal by five
private hospitals to admit a seven-yearold boy suffering from dengue, which led to his death,
following which his parents committed suicide. Officials said Sisodia has asked the divisional
commissioner of Delhi to depute the local sub-divisional magistrate to conduct the probe and
submit the report to the government within seven days.
The director-general of health services has sent show-cause notices to five private hospitals of
south Delhi-Moolchand Hospital, Max Hospital-Saket, Akash Arogya Mandir in Malviya Nagar, Saket
City Hospital and Irene Hospital in Kalkaji--under the provisions of the Delhi Nursing Homes
Registration Act, 1953.
According to Sisodia's order, it needs to be ascertained when there were specific instructions issued
to all hospitals--whether government or private--that patients suffering from dengue should not be
denied admission in hospitals citing lack of beds, then why and how the treatment was denied.
The inquiry will also cover the responsibility of hospitals, particularly those concerned with
admissions and treatment. Health minister Satyendar Jain told the private facilities that if they
increase the bed strength, the government is ready to relax rules about the ratio of beds in a
particular area till November 15.
