The Pros And Cons Of The NFL As A NFL
Professional football is known to dominate all other American sports. Prime time football is an
essential part of American culture. Each year anticipation for the start of the new season builds
as dedicated fans eagerly await for game time. People can t help but love the high energy and
intensity each game provides. Once a favorite team is picked, fans follow the season in hopes
that their team makes big at the Super Bowl. Whether going to experience a game in person or
being able to watch it on T.V the love people have for football is evident. The National Football
Leagues popularity draws in the largest amount of fans who fill stadiums to full capacity and even
more viewers who watch the broadcasts. The NFL is a huge market that many consider displaying
monopoly power. I believe that the NFL is indeed a monopoly due to the lack of competition
/substitutes at that level, the high barriers to entry, and their economies of scale.
Since the formation of the NFL, numerous football leagues have attempted to compete for control
over the professional football market. The National Football League has successfully been able to
eliminate their rivals from the market. In 1926, the American Football League (1st AFL) merged
called it quits after not making enough profits. In 1937, the American Football League (2nd AFL)
stopped its league after having reached limited audiences. In 1942, the American Football
League (3rd AFL) permanently discontinued their league due to the toll of World War II. In
1947, the World Football League (WFL) ceased to exist because of being in a smaller market and
not having enough money. In 1949, the All American Football Conference (AAFC) became
incapable of maintaining its league as a result of the direct competition it faced from the NFL.
During this time period, professional football had a relatively small market. The minimal number
of attendees, as well as financial problems, caused the AAFC to merge with the NFL. The All
American Football Conference willingly handed over the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco
49ers, and the Indianapolis Colts (formerly the Baltimore Colts) to the National Football League. In
1970, the All American Football League (final AFL) and the National

Tata Steel Tata Steel is the largest steel producer in India. The main project described is the
development of a model for adjusting the mix of products to compensate for different levels of
power shortages at various times in the day. Prior to describing this project, the presenters show
how they used a productmix model to improve profitability, comparing its results to those of their
previous strategy of maximizing output. The electricity shortage model built on this one with the
added element of incorporating the fixed costs associated with the adjustments necessary to
compensate for a lack of power. The value in this tape is at several levels. The users of the model
make the point that they were skeptical that anyone in management science could tell metallurgists
how to improve their operation of a steel plant.

The Latest Major Dota 2 Tournament On Mainstream...
The latest major Dota 2 tournament was met with a huge reception and the largest prize pool in
e sports history to date. For the developers Valve, the tournament was a huge success and another
stepping stone in e sports rapid rise towards mainstream popularity and acceptance. However
Valve also made another and no less profound statement of intent with the tournament that marks
them as a distinctive force in the e sports and wider gaming industry and that is one of
emphasising the generative power of play. This statement of intent became clear after a
controversial incident occurred with the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere who employed a
strategy that many considered to be a bug , glitch or exploit , or at least, certainly to an outsiders
view. The strategy in question was the now infamous fountain hook Pudge / Chen combination
that utilises a unique ability of the two champions (Pudges Meat Hook and Chens Test of Faith )
to create an effectively unstoppable move that pulls an enemy hero into the certain death of the
base fountain if executed correctly. The if word is key here. This was an extremely hard
combination to successfully employ that not only relies on a perfection of team unity in
combining moves, but also on a huge level of individual skill on the part of Natus Vincere s
Dendi in landing the initial Meat Hook from Pudge. However for the average spectator, many of
whom were from a League of Legendsbackground (1), it looked like an (albeit fun) exploit

The Complexity of Mother and Daughter Relationships in Amy Tan s Joy Luck Club
Since the beginning of time the mother and daughter relationship has been complex. The book The
Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan is a great example of the mother and daughter relationship. In the book
Amy Tan writes about four women who migrate to America from China. All of the women were in
search of a better life since the lives they had in China were not what they wanted for themselves.
Even though all of the women did not know each other until they met in America, they all share the
same horrible memories of their past. The book mainly focuses on the expectations, hopes, and

and had a lot in common with Suyuan; My idea was to have a gathering of four women, one for
each corner of my mah jong table. (Tan 10). The club gave the women chance to talk, share food
and try to forget what was going on around them, while playing mah jong which is a card game.
After a while Suyuan was forced to run for her life and ended up abandoning her two girls for fear

Santa Anita Park Thoroughbred Racing Fans Essay
To thoroughbred horse racing fans, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia is the place to go this winter.
The Park offers live horse racing in the backdrop of the magnificent San Gabriel Mountains.
Except for occasional tourists, horse racing fans are not there for the scenery but to bet and win
on horse races. Thoroughbred racing fans also called handicappers are using race programs and
tip sheets to analyze and bet on horse races. To the handicappers, winning a bet on a horse race is
like smoking marijuana. There is the euphoria of watching the horses run in the oval track. When
the horses run toward the finish line, the fans roar urging their favorite horse to edge ahead and
win. After a race, fans with winning tickets are showing exhilaration by... Show more content on

These peer groups can be heard debating on their choices of horses to win. On some groups, one
member within the group is in charge of placing bets on a race. On one occasion, I have seen a
multi generational group in which the women were giving money to the elderly man, who I
assume was their father, to bet on the coming race. Finally, these racing fans come out in clusters
of groups to the outside in front of the racing track to watch and cheer for their favorite horses.
On President s Day at 2 pm, the grandstand terrace was half filled with fans of at least two
thousand. To increase the chance of winning, thoroughbred racing fans use handicapping guides
to select horses to wager on a race. Handicapping guides are race programs, tip sheets, and
newspaper style racing forms that ranked horses. At close inspection, one particular racing guide,
The Daily Racing Form , contains data such as a horse past performances, jockeys, owners, and
trainers. On two occasions, I observed that most fans have at least one of these racing guides.
Furthermore, I had seen several sections inside the grandstand that are like a cafeteria occupied by
handicappers but instead of food, handicapping guides lay on the table. In this scenario, the fans
look like researchers in a library. In addition to these handicapping sections, there are sections that
are like a stock exchange where handicappers are standing, facing, and

Reflecting Before My In-Depth Writing Course
Before taking this course in depth writing and research was a task I didn t have to perform often.
As a result, I never thought about the writing process or the details I put into a paper. E.L.
Doctorow said Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader not the fact it is raining,
but the feeling of being rained upon. Reflecting before my technical writingcourse I would have
looked at this quote as just another quote on the internet. Based off some of the lessons I ve

The Journey Essay
The Journey is the first chapter in the book called Survival in Auschwitz, written by Primo Levi;
which originally appeared in English under the title If This Is a Man in 1958. This first chapter
brings you through Levi s journey from Turin, Italy to the work camp, Auschwitz, while detailing
the routine of blatant inhumanity. The chapter begins as Levi states the fact that he was captured
by the Fascist Militia when he was 24, only after being forced to flee into the mountains because
of his segregated life filled with racial laws. The night he was captured, three fascist militia
companies broke into their refuge and took him as a suspect person. While being interrogated, Levi

held the roll call. When completed, the officer asked the question `How Many? The corporal replied
that there were 650 pieces, and that everything was in order. From there, the humans, who had just
been referred to as `pieces were loaded onto busses and brought to a waiting train, this is where they

without anger. Waiting for them were twelve goods wagons, the notorious transport trains, which
would never return. Men, women, and children were herded inside and pressed together like
merchandise; packed in for a journey with an undeclared destination. Next, everyone was packed in,
the doors were shut, but the train didn t begin to move until the evening. When the trains began to

meant nothing to them, but as long as they knew they were going somewhere, that was all that

Examples Of Self Centeredness In The Great Gatsby
Self Centeredness in Gatsby
Fitzgerald provides many themes in his book The Great Gatsby one of the main themes is how
being self centered can easily overpower self morals. This theme is described in every character
except Nick through what they are engaged in. The motif of self centeredness is frequently
portrayed in Gatsby and gives an added comparison to Fitzgerald s theme of self centeredness. The
first example of self centeredness in Gatsby is Jay Gatsby himself, by giving the reader a concrete
example of being self centered. She never...except me. (Fitzgerald 130)
This shows how Gatsby is self centered by consistently pressuring Daisy into being with him
knowing Daisy has a family and life after he left for the war. There is much more

Senate Reform Case Study
Challenges in reforming Canada s Senate and the Supreme Court
In terms of reforming Parliament s upper chamber, the task is faced with several challenges. The
Canadian constitution makes it difficult to make certain reforms to the Senate as the powers,
selection and qualifications of senators, and the length of their terms are all defined in the
Constitution Act of 1867 (Pare, 2009, p. 1). Thus, a constitutional amendment is needed to make any
significant reform to the Senate. Also, according to section 44 of the Constitution Act of 1982,
Parliament can amend the Constitution without the provinces. (Barnes et al., 2011, p. 1). In fact,
section 44 allows Parliament to unilaterally amend the constitution in matters relating to the Senate,

The British North America Act of 1867 contained a subsection which described how the Parliament
of Canada would be created. In fact, section 17 states that there shall be One Parliament for Canada,
consisting of the Queen, an Upper House styled the Senate and the House of Commons (BNA Act,
1867, IV.17). In other words, Parliament s three institutions are required to pass laws and without
the Senate, bills cannot become law (Library of Parliament, 2002, p. 11). Thus, a constitutional
amendment is required to change how Parliament operates and how the legislative process works.
More importantly, as part of the legislative process and since Parliament itself must agree to abolish
the Senate along with the ten provinces, Senators will have to agree to abolish the institution in
which they work to represent their regions. Also, smaller provinces must be taken into account as
these provinces, such as the Maritimes, would not agree to abolish the Senate as they are
overrepresented in the chamber can maintain sufficient representation for their interests and
concerns. Therefore, abolishing the Senate is a task which requires negotiations with the provinces
and is a process that is not worth undertaking in terms of time and

Theme Of Companionship In Frankenstein
It is an innate characteristic of the human psyche to search for belonging, whether with another
individual or perhaps a community of people. Once this sense of companionship has been
achieved, one tends to conform one s self in order to adhere to the goals and standards that said
person or persons follow. This will eventually create a lasting impact on the individual for better or
for worse. In Mary Shelley s Gothic novel Frankenstein, the creature comes into the world with a
pure heart and mind, almost exactly like that of a newborn infant. As he experiences his
environment and accumulates knowledge of it, he starts to abandon his primal instincts to pursue a
dark venture towards validation from mankind and eventually revenge towards them.It is an innate

How Did Religion Lead To The Rise Of The American Revolution
The foremost denominations within America before the country s independence were
Congregationalists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Quakers, Methodist and Baptists. These are referred
to as the orthodox denominations. Roman Catholics were in a small community in Maryland as
well has Catholic Indian missions. However, the Congregationalists, Anglicans, Quakers and
Presbyterians were the raining sects in America. During the Revolution, including the
Confederation years, church attendance dramatically dropped. The Enlightenment consisted of
multiple philosophers that were able to convince Americans that thinking on one s own was enough
for truth and reason. The philosophers stated how the Bible was a book of contradictions; with its
wisdom, in addition to mythology and irrational nonsense. After the revolution, the Anglican
Church took another hit with decline in membership. Most of their ministers had been Loyalist to

Human Factors Of Walmart
Walmart: The Human Factor
The employees welfare in Walmart is poor. According to the two employees interviewed, Walmart
has been forcing its employees to work through meals without extra pay. Employees are also
forced to work long hours without extra pay. This has contributed to regular employees strikes due
to their unpaid overtime dues and low wages (Mitchell, 2015). Another human behavior facing
Walmart is lack of appropriate measures to ensure employees safety. The employees interviewed
indicated they are locked in stores during evening hours, and any attempt to use emergency exits is
punishable. This is a sign of poor management of employees and may lead to low motivation as they
feel less valued by their employer. The leaders in the firm indicate that the lock in policy is meant
to prevent employees from stealing goods from the firm. This shows that the relationship between
the administrators and the employees is poor. This may explain why customers complain of poor
customer service in the stores.
The other human behavior problem in Walmart is poor employees training. The employees
indicated that they are not exposed to the necessary training before they are employed in Walmart.
This leads to difficulty in carrying out their duties leading to poor customer service. There is also a
problem in the way the organization rewards its employees. It is only managers and the senior
officials in the organization who enjoy performance incentives. Junior employees are not given

Child Labour In China
How would you feel if your child was forced to work every day just for your family s survival?
Child labour is work that exploits children mentally and physically, as well as keeping them away
from school. The International Labor Organization estimates that 215 million children between the
ages of 5 and 17 currently work under conditions that are considered illegal, hazardous or
extremely exploitative. China is one of the main culprits. A recent study by the China Labour
Bulletin in 2000, indicated that there were approximately 11,575,000 children at work between the
ages of 10 to 14 in China. This violates many articles from the Convention of Rights of The Child.
For example, article 32 states that, You have the right to protection from work that harms you,
and is bad for your health and prevents you from receiving an education. If you work, you have
the right to be safe and paid fairly. (The Convention of Rights of The Child, В§ 32, 1990). Child
labour in China is a major problem that needs to be resolved. This essay will examine how child
labour affects many misfortunate children, whilst demonstrating how child labour is still an
uprising trend, one that needs to be changed. Showcasing why it s so important to actively change
our worldview on the exploitation of child labour, for the greater good of future generations.
Undeniably, there are many reasons why child labour occurs. The most common reason why is
because of the lack of money in povertystricken areas or

Juvenile Crime Is The Number One Priority
INTRODUCTION Juvenile Crime has been increasing as society progress. Finding possible
solutions to help at risk youth is the number one priority. In society today, federal laws preventing
violence crimes are becoming more detailed and protected. However, it does not seem to stop
criminals from committing illegal acts, especially for at risk children in the city of Chicago.
According to ABCNews, Chicago s Murder rate is four time higher than New York City
(Rosenzweig). Juvenile gang activities are without a doubt, a reality, and is increasing
uncontrollably in the city of Chicago, IL. Even though there is no universal definition for gang , the
National Institute of Justice, defined it as an association with three or more non adult individuals
who identify themselves as group that projects intimidation, with a purpose of engaging in activities
deem as a criminal act by society (NIJ). In order to prevent at risk children from committing juvenile
act, gang prevention programs must be supported throughout the nation, especially in Chicago at
the federal level. The following report will analyzed current programs in United States, then
determined whether the programs are contributing to society, and providing additional alternative.

Violence In The Road
violence. The road in which The Man and The Boy travel on is chock full of danger, so one
could not expect to survive without seeing or performing any acts of violence, for example as
mentioned before there is danger almost everywhere, including in the cannibals that The Man and
The Boy are trying to hide from. However, perhaps the violencethat we see in The Road is more
justifiable than the violence and warfare that occurs in A Farewell to Arms as in this novel
people have to fight and kill in order to survive in the world they live in, instead of just killing in
aid of the war. The theme of violence in The Road is apparent when The Man is searching a
trailer for supplies, and McCarthy writes: He wafted away the smoke and looked down into the
trailer. The small fire burning in the floor seemed a long way down. He shielded the glare of it
with his hand and when he did he could see almost to the rear of the box. Human bodies.

ecosystems (Babbitt 2007). However , currently, both the public and the political culture rely
heavily on natural resource science for answers the many phenomena that exist in water resource
policy. Traditional laws such as the Clean Water Act sets precedent regarding the nature of
pollutants and navigable water flows. The South Florida Water Management District decision to
dump these phosphorus pollutants into the Okeechobee River without the proper permission, is an
example of existing laws impacting state activities when it comes to water management. The
Everglades restoration project, which established to clean up ecosystems and waterways for both
current and future generations, has encountered many difficulties stemming from either damage
that has been done to the environment was in a fact a result of mother nature, or a result from the
activities pursued by mankind. The case involving the South Florida Water Management District

Holden Caulfield s Mental Condition in The Catcher in the...
Where do the ducks go during the Winter when the water is frozen? In The Catcher in the Rye by
J.D. Salinger, the character, Holden Caulfield, has an underlying mental condition. He failed out of
four schools; he saw his friend commit suicide; and his younger brother died of cancer. These life
changing experiences paved the way for Holden s insecure and unstable life. By his narration,
Holden hints at his disorder throughout the book without fully explaining his condition. Holden s
many insecurities, his teetering on the edge of childhood and adulthood, and his irrational ideas

Holden s date with Sally Hayes exhibited his difficulty at cooperating with others. At first he
gives us a dire impression of Sally, I wasn t too crazy about her, but I d known her for years. (p.
105) Later, he wants to marry Sally and says he is in love with her. The biggest mystery of all
when it comes to women is with Jane Gallagher. Constantly mentioning Jane, Holden recalls
playing checkers with her before he got sent to boarding school. When his roommate, Stradlater,
has a date with Jane, Holden asks him a peculiar question, Did you ask her if she still keeps all
her kings in the back row? (p. 42) Holden, jealous of Stradlater s date with Jane, longs to see Jane
but never has the courage to call her. Interactions with other people especially women perplex and
overwhelm Holden. He therefore resorts to isolation, illustrating a characteristic of his mental
state. In the course of the story, Holden is suspended between adulthood and childhood. Several of
his actions and words show evidence of his confusion between adults and children. Admitting to
his immaturity, Holden says, I was sixteen then, and I m seventeen now, and sometimes I act like I

The Relations I Have With Siblings Essay
Writing Project One Rough Draft The Relations I have with my siblings are the most important
in my life for many reasons. My family includes my mom five siblings and I. Being the oldest
child comes with great responsibilities and lots of expectations. When I was eleven I wished I
was the youngest because I knew my younger brothers had the type of life I wanted. No chores
just love and laughter with some video games thrown in. I always held my feelings in and just
kept them to myself, I did not want to be a burden to mom. Looking back, I am truly happy my
wish to be the youngest never came true. I am happy my life turned out to be like coal that
turned into a diamond only; from time and the heavy pressure of exceptions and responsibility s.
I Knew I was loved as a child, but I had so much responsibility that at times I would quietly resent
my mom for placing such a heavy burden on my tiny shoulders. When all I wanted was to be
like other children, without a care in the world, playing in a playground with the beautiful sun
shining down on us as our childhood minds captured these moments to enjoy again as adults
reminiscing about it as if it was an old video or picture. I remember keeping my resent locked
down and just being a good mommy s helper. All my sadness fears and things I found to be a
challenge would be kept in my heart. I would find my validation from helping other and putting
myself on the back burner because I felt like I would be too selfish if I just did not

The Purchase Of Louisiana Posed Essay

The Purchase of Louisiana posed several important moral dilemmas for American President Thomas
Jefferson; among these were the means of achieving Republican government states rights and strict
constructionism which he relented. Constructionist and a strong supporter of states rights and,
therefore, the action of purchasing Louisiana presented a moral dilemma, he was either to stick to
his principle or compromise and save the Republican government. President Jefferson believed
following the principles of constructionism and the rights of the constitution, therefore acquiring
Louisiana land made him unable to decide whether to uphold the principles compromise (Balleck).
Indeed as Jefferson attempted to help Napoleon in Santo Domingo, he quickly scrambled to
concoct a smart strategy along the Mississippi. Napoleon in Louisiana would not look good for
United States interests on Louisianan and Jefferson perceived that such a prospect may compel
him into making a quite feared alliance with Britain. Favoring clash with France to accord with
Britain, Jefferson got ready for the possibility of war. But he found two million dollars was

The Danger Of Factions By James Madison
The Danger of Factions James Madison warned, among several cautions, about factions,
specifically a tyranny of the majority, when writing under the alias as PUBLIUS in The
Federalist Papers. According to Madison in Federalist 10, a faction is a group of citizens, either
a majority or minority, who group together by a common purpose or goal (2013, pg. 628). He
argued that when governments are ruled by factions, ...the public good is disregarded... , and
rulings of the government are made by an overbearing majority, instead of by the ...rules of
justice and the rights of the minor party... (Madison 2013, pg. 628). However, in the two hundred
plus years of different opinions on how government should run and political polarization, factions,
in some fashion, have become a reality within the U.S. political system through the means of
political parties. The two major U.S. political parties are the Democrats and the Republicans, and
they are in a constant battle over who will control Congress and influence the policy making
process. According to Madison, men are naturally driven to form factions due to differing opinions
about spiritual beliefs, government, as well as other reasons (Madison 2013, pg. 628). He stated
that factions have become ..inflamed... with mutual animosity, and... much more disposed to vex
and oppress each other than to co operate for their common good (Madison 2013, pg. 628). While
looking at current political conditions, Madison s theory may be just as

Slaughter gleans more evidence for her argument based on a succession of real life experiences
than Dorment who bases his argument more on series of interviews, quotes, and song lyrics. In
Slaughter s article, I sensed the emotional tug of war she had within herself to make the decision
she ultimately made. Slaughter quotes Matalin stating she uses similar language to tell the
many people leaving the State Department: I finally asked myself, Who needs me more? and that
s when I realized, it s somebody else s turn to do this job. I m indispensable to my kids, but I m
not indispensable to the White House. (92). Slaughter bases her story on the actual life
experiences she lived and breathed. Dorment s article was more of a defensive response trying
to justify why men have more stress in their lives than women and to counter the issues
Slaughter found important. Slaughter made her point by including her feelings of living the
dream when Dorment made his point based primarily on his collection of others views regarding
the subject and then suggests feelings don t play a role. The validation of one s feelings is the
language of therapy, which is to say that it is how we talk now. This is not to denigrate the
language of the feelings; it is only to say that to use one s feelings as evidence of an injury is no
way to advance a serious cause. And to imply that one has been made to feel any way at all well,
no grown man has ever won that argument before. (22). His only real life experience is trying to
help his wife with the laundry and then not folding the clothes to her liking, and then being upset
because he did not meet her standards. I don t believe there ever will be a time when we can have
it all . Life doesn t guarantee us that. Society is ever changing and the balance to create equality

argument conveys that unless the oil industry and the consumer take an alternative route to
dangerous oil drilling more such calamities are destined to occur (Klare 1). Klare is very vocal in
criticizing of the BP executives concerning the Deepwater Horizon disaster. He proceeds to state the

already impoverished and are being used by the government unfairly. Klare in one hand has his
audience feeling poorly for the Nigerian workers and in the other suggests, do to the pipeline

Puritan Beliefs In John Winthrop s A City Set On A Hill
A City set on a Hill is a phrase that became popularized in the American politics, and it emanates
from the parable of Salt and Light in the New Testament. In Matthew 5:14, Jesus tells the crowd
that was listening to him, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden
(New King James Version). John Winthrop, an English Puritanlawyer, had a vision for Boston that
it would be A City Set on a Hill. This is a vision that has over the years been replicated by the
United Statesof America as it has strived to set an example on the world stage as a beacon of
freedom and hope for the entire world. The phrase a city set on a hill refers to a society that others
people will look up to (Morgan 76). By using this phrase, Winthrop describes the MassachusettsBay
colony, which he supposed would turn out to be an outstanding example of Puritan faultlessness.
Although this phrase has a religious undertone, it can be used to describe the aspects that the
United States ought to emulate.
A Model of Christian Charity is a sermon that was delivered by John Winthrop in 1630 while he
was on board of the ship Arbella which was sailing to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This
sermon is best known for its application of the phrase City upon a Hill regarding the founding of
the United States, and later used in the description of American exceptionalism (Morgan 112). A

The Women s Rights Movement
With the advancement of suffrage to equal pay, over the last century, women s rights have
progressed immensely. Through historic marches and demonstrations across the United States,
women protested for their equal place in politics and social progress. Despite the fear mongering
components used in achieving these rights, women s rights are still thoroughly debated within
society today. Over the last century, incredible and unreachable goals have been fulfilled for
women, such as the right to vote and a sense of equal state in the Free World, and can only improve
in the years to come. July 13, 1848 marked the beginning of a movement that would shape the

is just a testimony to their character and emotional strength. Tradition plays a huge role in the
characters lives that live on the reservation. Thomas portrays his respect towards traditional
Spokane culture by participating in Spokane storytelling. He is always trying to convince Victor to
join in on the storytelling, dancing, and ceremonies, but Victor seems uninterested. Compared to
Thomas, Victor seems to be quite removed at the beginning of the book. Victor actively makes fun

Airport Security
In this essay, I will attempt to argue that TSA serves as a mechanism for the government to frame
the nature of the debate on privacy, in a way that is beneficial to them. To do this I will first argue
that airport security and the TSA are objectively ineffective and merely creates the illusion of
privacy. Despite not actually protecting us, the system of airplane security, conditions individuals in
the general public to be willing to make sacrifices in privacy for a perceived greater good in
community safety. This viewpoint of individuals sacrificing a little privacy for the well being of
society is the essentially the same nothing to hide argument that the governmentuses to justify mass

This is problematic because it is frighteningly easy to make mistakes, and nearly impossible to
catch a suspect. In fact, some security experts suspect that the TSA has never once caught a
terrorist at a checkpoint. A natural byproduct of a one checkpoint system is massive lines. It is
widely accepted both in the intelligence community and popular culture that terrorists seek out
crowds because they can inflict the most damage. This is disturbingly ironic; as in an attempt to
prevent us against terrorism, the TSA conveniently packs hundreds of travels together in cramped
security lines, creating a clear terrorist target. Therefore, technically terrorists don t even need to
get through security in order to make an attack. All of these structural flaws in the American
airplane security system or TSA, point to the conclusion, that the massive TSA system merely
creates the appearance of protection. In the last paragraph, I have attempted to show how the TSA
creates a guise of protection while doing very little to prevent terrorism. However, despite doing
very little to protect us, the TSA profoundly impacts the parameters for how the debate around how
privacy is defined. In fact, the government uses systems like the TSA to control the narrative around

King Alexander The Great
A son of Philip II of Macedonia and the princess of Epirus Olympias, Alexander the Great ruled
from 336 to 323 B.C.E., and during these 13 years of leadership, he conquered a territory bigger

right after his death. Alexander, considering himself a god like figure, was an inspiration for later
conquerors such as Hannibal, Caesar, and Napoleon.
Early life While Alexander lived in his palace in Pela, his father was fighting off the power of

and titled, King Leopold s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa.
Hochschild talked extensively about the greed for money and slavery resulting in the genocide of

The Portuguese travelers were amazed by its size and recorded their thoughts in a diary stating,
this noble river had determined to try its strengths in pitched battle with the ocean itself. In more
serious parts of his argument, Hochschild used the European sources to prove his thesis. For
example, on page 166, the author quoted a Catholic priest who recorded the calamities that King
Leopold s men did in his name in Africa. The priest related the story of how a state official
named LГ©on FiГ©vez terrorized African villagers by killing a few men (severing the head or
cutting the hands of Africans) to make an example out of them. FiГ©vez s terror was so
impressive that even a Force Publique officer quoted him saying My goal is ultimately
humanitarian. I killed a hundred people...but that allowed five hundred others to live.
Hochschild heavily relied on European sources to prove his point for both simple and serious
matters. The priest described how All the blacks saw this man as the Devil of the Equator.
However, this is according to the priest s own perspective. This is how he perceived Africans to
feel about FiГ©vez. In other words, it is the priest s perception. There is no way of knowing for
sure how Africans truly felt because their voice is silence. Nevertheless, Hochschild made a safe
assumption as the terror the sources described can only provoke intimidation and the fact that
Belgium became

As the interview went on Charlamagne elaborated more saying Cause your young and have an
old face, like drake says I m really too young to be looking this old (Starbury 10 16). Eventually,
Mama couldn t take Charlamagne s verbal assault any longer. And broke down in tears, as she
reflected on her mother who passed away at the beginning of her career (Starbury 20 23). This
interview has given a negative perception of Charlamagne because he was the one who made her
cry. And even today people talk about the interview and make jokes about it. The first picture
comes from a YouTube video clip from the Tv show Guy Code posted on April 2nd 2015. The
video clip was of Charlamagne alongside his friend/Comedian Lil Duval answering questions
and it is a visual of Charlamagne s personality. When Lil Duval and Charlamagne are together on

Personal Integrity Analysis
The development of a personal statement As I consider the diverse elements within character
education, I believe integrity is the central principle sustains my professional, civic, and personal
relationships. Integrity is shown within these fellowships just mentioned when my words and
actions agree with my valuesystem. For example if I say I will pick you up every Sunday morning
up at eight o clock and I show up five minutes before eight every Sunday morning for over a year,
this particular relationship in my life is fortified with the truth and trust founded in integrity.
Integrity powerful to me as it is synonymous with strength, durability in addition to wholeness,

Describe A Model Of Bravery, Selflessness, Courage, And...
When describing a model of bravery, selflessness, courage, and sensibility Shun Fujimoto is an
excellent specimen. Shun participated in the 1976 Olympics hosted by Montreal, Canada. Helping
lead his fellow Japanese Olympians to a fourth dynasty, win and beating the opposition Russia.
During the floor competition, while tumbling Shun had broken his right knee. Perseverance willed
Shun to continue with not the slightest mention of pain or restriction in his movements. Performing
a featured twist from an eight foot high set of rings only to land on his broken knee with only a
mere flinch depicting his distress. Making this one of the most courageous acts in Olympic history.
The motivation shown by Shun can be explained with help from his... Show more content on

When this is Americanized a quote from President John F. Kennedy comes to mind Ask not what
your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country . Shun gained the love and
support from both his teammates and his country for enduring unimaginable amounts of pain to see
others succeed. By placing his teammates before his own well being and priorities Shun shows
interdependent self construal. The interdependent self construal is based on belonging to a group or
fitting in. The Asian culture is very centered around an interdependent self construal. Being family
orient is a large expectation many in the Asian culture believe, based upon religion that one must
achieve the happiness of certain Gods and will, in turn, live their life to gain that happiness and
respect. Maintaining social connections and keeping harmony and peace is a core value in the
Japanese culture. This being a valid reasoning for Shun s ability to withstand such brutalizing pain
to achieve his goal of helping carry his teammates to victory. The interdependent self construal is a
means of valuing other opinions higher than that of your own. The respect gained from family and
friends is of higher importance to the self than that of the inner thoughts. These relationships are
dependent on the reflection of the self in terms of how one defines succeeding and bring harmony
to others. When examining if independent and interdependent self construal are both operatives in

Lead Goose Research Paper
As each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird following. By in a V formation, the
whole flock adds 71 percent greater flying range than if one bird flew alone. Teamwork is always
better than being in something alone, as shown in the quote. Working with a team may expand
your ideas, things may work more efficiently, and educate yourself with new skills. Geese stand
by each other when they are wounded or sick, if that were the case with people, we d create a
stronger bond. Teamwork is an essential task that you ll use throughout your life. According to
the video, When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation another goose flies at
the point position. This is showing that they are taking turns with their leadership which goes
along the lines of expanding ideas. Each person is different and giving the option to be a leader will

Factor In Job Offers For Ex-Convicts By Paul Von Zielbauer
In Race a Factor in Job Offers for Ex Convicts Paul Von Zielbauer, a writer for The New York
Times, illustrates an example of conflict theory. Conflict theory states that society is in always in
conflict because people are always in competition for limited resources such as money or job
opportunities. Although Karl Marxoriginated conflicttheory, sociologists Max Weber and Georg
Simmel subsequently expanded upon it. Weber added that different groups were affected in society
differently based on traits like race and gender and that reactions to these inequalities were
moderated by differences in social class. Georg Simmel, alternatively, thought conflict varied
depending on the emotional involvement of the parties.

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of The NFL As A NFL Professional football is known to dominate all other American sports. Prime time football is an essential part of American culture. Each year anticipation for the start of the new season builds as dedicated fans eagerly await for game time. People can t help but love the high energy and intensity each game provides. Once a favorite team is picked, fans follow the season in hopes that their team makes big at the Super Bowl. Whether going to experience a game in person or being able to watch it on T.V the love people have for football is evident. The National Football Leagues popularity draws in the largest amount of fans who fill stadiums to full capacity and even more viewers who watch the broadcasts. The NFL is a huge market that many consider displaying monopoly power. I believe that the NFL is indeed a monopoly due to the lack of competition /substitutes at that level, the high barriers to entry, and their economies of scale. Since the formation of the NFL, numerous football leagues have attempted to compete for control over the professional football market. The National Football League has successfully been able to eliminate their rivals from the market. In 1926, the American Football League (1st AFL) merged called it quits after not making enough profits. In 1937, the American Football League (2nd AFL) stopped its league after having reached limited audiences. In 1942, the American Football League (3rd AFL) permanently discontinued their league due to the toll of World War II. In 1947, the World Football League (WFL) ceased to exist because of being in a smaller market and not having enough money. In 1949, the All American Football Conference (AAFC) became incapable of maintaining its league as a result of the direct competition it faced from the NFL. During this time period, professional football had a relatively small market. The minimal number of attendees, as well as financial problems, caused the AAFC to merge with the NFL. The All American Football Conference willingly handed over the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Indianapolis Colts (formerly the Baltimore Colts) to the National Football League. The main project described is the development of a model for adjusting the mix of products to compensate for different levels of power shortages at various times in the day. Prior to describing this project, the presenters show how they used a productmix model to improve profitability, comparing its results to those of their previous strategy of maximizing output. The electricity shortage model built on this one with the added element of incorporating the fixed costs associated with the adjustments necessary to compensate for a lack of power. The value in this tape is at several levels. The users of the model make the point that they were skeptical that anyone in management science could tell metallurgists how to improve their operation of a steel plant. Juiy August 1996 79 LEV

For the developers Valve, the tournament was a huge success and another stepping stone in e sports rapid rise towards mainstream popularity and acceptance. However Valve also made another and no less profound statement of intent with the tournament that marks them as a distinctive force in the e sports and wider gaming industry and that is one of emphasising the generative power of play. This statement of intent became clear after a controversial incident occurred with the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere who employed a strategy that many considered to be a bug , glitch or exploit , or at least, certainly to an outsiders view. The strategy in question was the now infamous fountain hook Pudge / Chen combination that utilises a unique ability of the two champions (Pudges Meat Hook and Chens Test of Faith ) to create an effectively unstoppable move that pulls an enemy hero into the certain death of the base fountain if executed correctly. The if word is key here. This was an extremely hard combination to successfully employ that not only relies on a perfection of team unity in combining moves, but also on a huge level of individual skill on the part of Natus Vincere s Dendi in landing the initial Meat Hook from Pudge. However for the average spectator, many of whom were from a League of Legendsbackground (1), it looked like an (albeit fun) exploit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally, these racing fans come out in clusters of groups to the outside in front of the racing track to watch and cheer for their favorite horses. On President s Day at 2 pm, the grandstand terrace was half filled with fans of at least two thousand. To increase the chance of winning, thoroughbred racing fans use handicapping guides to select horses to wager on a race. Handicapping guides are race programs, tip sheets, and newspaper style racing forms that ranked horses. At close inspection, one particular racing guide, The Daily Racing Form , contains data such as a horse past performances, jockeys, owners, and trainers. On two occasions, I observed that most fans have at least one of these racing guides. • 13. Senate Reform Case Study Challenges in reforming Canada s Senate and the Supreme Court In terms of reforming Parliament s upper chamber, the task is faced with several challenges. The Canadian constitution makes it difficult to make certain reforms to the Senate as the powers, selection and qualifications of senators, and the length of their terms are all defined in the Constitution Act of 1867 (Pare, 2009, p. 1). Thus, a constitutional amendment is needed to make any significant reform to the Senate. Also, according to section 44 of the Constitution Act of 1982, Parliament can amend the Constitution without the provinces. (Barnes et al., 2011, p. 1). The British North America Act of 1867 contained a subsection which described how the Parliament of Canada would be created. In fact, section 17 states that there shall be One Parliament for Canada, consisting of the Queen, an Upper House styled the Senate and the House of Commons (BNA Act, 1867, IV.17). In other words, Parliament s three institutions are required to pass laws and without the Senate, bills cannot become law (Library of Parliament, 2002, p. 11). Thus, a constitutional amendment is required to change how Parliament operates and how the legislative process works. More importantly, as part of the legislative process and since Parliament itself must agree to abolish the Senate along with the ten provinces, Senators will have to agree to abolish the institution in which they work to represent their regions. Also, smaller provinces must be taken into account as these provinces, such as the Maritimes, would not agree to abolish the Senate as they are overrepresented in the chamber can maintain sufficient representation for their interests and concerns. Therefore, abolishing the Senate is a task which requires negotiations with the provinces and is a process that is not worth undertaking in terms of time and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Human Factors Of Walmart Walmart: The Human Factor The employees welfare in Walmart is poor. According to the two employees interviewed, Walmart has been forcing its employees to work through meals without extra pay. Employees are also forced to work long hours without extra pay. This has contributed to regular employees strikes due to their unpaid overtime dues and low wages (Mitchell, 2015). Another human behavior facing Walmart is lack of appropriate measures to ensure employees safety. The employees interviewed indicated they are locked in stores during evening hours, and any attempt to use emergency exits is punishable. This is a sign of poor management of employees and may lead to low motivation as they feel less valued by their employer. The leaders in the firm indicate that the lock in policy is meant to prevent employees from stealing goods from the firm. This shows that the relationship between the administrators and the employees is poor. This may explain why customers complain of poor customer service in the stores. The other human behavior problem in Walmart is poor employees training. The employees indicated that they are not exposed to the necessary training before they are employed in Walmart. This leads to difficulty in carrying out their duties leading to poor customer service. There is also a problem in the way the organization rewards its employees. Child labour is work that exploits children mentally and physically, as well as keeping them away from school. The International Labor Organization estimates that 215 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 currently work under conditions that are considered illegal, hazardous or extremely exploitative. China is one of the main culprits. A recent study by the China Labour Bulletin in 2000, indicated that there were approximately 11,575,000 children at work between the ages of 10 to 14 in China. This violates many articles from the Convention of Rights of The Child. However, perhaps the violencethat we see in The Road is more justifiable than the violence and warfare that occurs in A Farewell to Arms as in this novel people have to fight and kill in order to survive in the world they live in, instead of just killing in aid of the war. The theme of violence in The Road is apparent when The Man is searching a trailer for supplies, and McCarthy writes: He wafted away the smoke and looked down into the trailer. The small fire burning in the floor seemed a long way down. He shielded the glare of it with his hand and when he did he could see almost to the rear of the box. Human bodies. Sprawled in every attitude. Dried and shrunken in their rotted clothes. The small wad of burning paper drew down to a wisp of flame and then died out leaving a faint pattern for just a moment in the incandescence like the shape of a flower, a molten rose. When all I wanted was to be like other children, without a care in the world, playing in a playground with the beautiful sun shining down on us as our childhood minds captured these moments to enjoy again as adults reminiscing about it as if it was an old video or picture. I remember keeping my resent locked down and just being a good mommy s helper. All my sadness fears and things I found to be a challenge would be kept in my heart. • 30. The Danger Of Factions By James Madison The Danger of Factions James Madison warned, among several cautions, about factions, specifically a tyranny of the majority, when writing under the alias as PUBLIUS in The Federalist Papers. According to Madison in Federalist 10, a faction is a group of citizens, either a majority or minority, who group together by a common purpose or goal (2013, pg. 628). He argued that when governments are ruled by factions, ...the public good is disregarded... , and rulings of the government are made by an overbearing majority, instead of by the ...rules of justice and the rights of the minor party... (Madison 2013, pg. 628). However, in the two hundred plus years of different opinions on how government should run and political polarization, factions, in some fashion, have become a reality within the U.S. political system through the means of political parties. The two major U.S. political parties are the Democrats and the Republicans, and they are in a constant battle over who will control Congress and influence the policy making process. According to Madison, men are naturally driven to form factions due to differing opinions about spiritual beliefs, government, as well as other reasons (Madison 2013, pg. 628). He stated that factions have become ..inflamed... with mutual animosity, and... much more disposed to vex and oppress each other than to co operate for their common good (Madison 2013, pg. 628). Slaughter quotes Matalin stating she uses similar language to tell the many people leaving the State Department: I finally asked myself, Who needs me more? and that s when I realized, it s somebody else s turn to do this job. I m indispensable to my kids, but I m not indispensable to the White House. (92). Slaughter bases her story on the actual life experiences she lived and breathed. Dorment s article was more of a defensive response trying to justify why men have more stress in their lives than women and to counter the issues Slaughter found important. Slaughter made her point by including her feelings of living the dream when Dorment made his point based primarily on his collection of others views regarding the subject and then suggests feelings don t play a role. The validation of one s feelings is the language of therapy, which is to say that it is how we talk now. This is not to denigrate the language of the feelings; it is only to say that to use one s feelings as evidence of an injury is no way to advance a serious cause. And to imply that one has been made to feel any way at all well, no grown man has ever won that argument before. (22). The priest related the story of how a state official named LГ©on FiГ©vez terrorized African villagers by killing a few men (severing the head or cutting the hands of Africans) to make an example out of them. FiГ©vez s terror was so impressive that even a Force Publique officer quoted him saying My goal is ultimately humanitarian. I killed a hundred people...but that allowed five hundred others to live. Hochschild heavily relied on European sources to prove his point for both simple and serious matters. The priest described how All the blacks saw this man as the Devil of the Equator. However, this is according to the priest s own perspective. This is how he perceived Africans to feel about FiГ©vez. In other words, it is the priest s perception. There is no way of knowing for sure how Africans truly felt because their voice is silence. Nevertheless, Hochschild made a safe assumption as the terror the sources described can only provoke intimidation and the fact that Belgium became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
