HBR Regal Carnation Hotel, Guam
The case revolves around the Regal Carnation Hotel, located in Guam. Partly narrated by Steve
McKenzie, he described his experience with the Regal Carnation Hotel. In his description of the
situation, the me too approach to hotel management led to poor service, false representation, and a
pricing plan that does not match the value of the hotel. The hotel industry in Guam has important
statistical information that will lead to an effective analysis.
Over a period of years, Guam has experienced a boost to its tourism industry. The year 1967 was
the beginning of that upward trend. that includes support from the United States. However, the
decline of the Japanese economy in the 1900 s and onward severely damaged the economy of
Guam. How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. McKenzie was immediately uncomfortable with the policy of the hotel. In his line of business,
he knew that a successful company would not follow this procedure, when booking a customer s
reservation.
Our second question was Did the Regal Carnation always misrepresent itself on the website and was
this intentional. Looking at the case, it states that the tourism industry was in its maturity state by
2007. During this time hotels were running elaborate campaigns to make their hotels and business
stand out. But with the declining pool of tourists, there was less profit to be made and as a result
less money to reinvest into the hotel. It is no surprise then; that given time and diminished
incentive to reinvest, that the website told a different story than reality. If the McKenzie s would
have researched a little more, followed up on their gut intuitions about the Regal Carnation, and
considered how it fits in with Guam s overall economy and history perhaps they would have
realized the fallacy of deciding upon value based solely on a website.
It is commonly believed that each product in business goes through what is called a product life
cycle. It can typically be divided into four distinctive categories. Simply put, Introduction, Growth,
Maturity and Decline are the four names that describe the different sections. Guam s tourism
industry is currently going through the Decline stage of the product life cycle.

Food has to be broken down by the body from things like broccoli and steak into pieces. The
nutrients that the body takes from these foods include amino acids from the proteins, fatty acids
and cholesterol from the fats, and simple sugars from the carbohydrates, as well as all the vitamins,
mineral, and other types of compounds. Digestive enzymes in the pancreas and the small intestine
break down the food into nutrients so that the body can absorb them. They are also located in the
saliva glands and the stomach; however, we are not going to focus on those.
Digestive Enzyme Deficiency
It is important to know that when a person has a digestive enzyme deficiency, it could mean that the
person has a disease that is preventing the production. Issues that are caused by the deficiency
include:
Pancreatic problems that include cystic fibrosis, acute or chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer.
It can also cause Crohn s disease.
Reasons for the Deficiency
Low grade inflammation located in the digestive tract can lead to the deficiency.
Aging can be a cause of the deficiency.
It can be caused by low stomach acid.
Chronic stress can also cause the deficiency due to the fight or flight response.
Signs of Deficiency
Gas after meals.
Bloating after meals.
Feelings of food sitting in the stomach.
Feeling full after just a few bites.

Culture Of The Philippines
Culture is the shared patterns of behaviors and interactions, cognitive constructs, and affective
understanding that is learned through a process of socialization. These shared patterns, identify the
members of a culture group while also distinguishing those of another group. Five major
characteristics of a Philippine culture include family, beliefs, customs, food, and language. In this
essay geography and military conflict history, weather analysis, and civil considerations will be
discussed. I will also cover how the terrain and infrastructure, communication, and past military
conflicts impacted their society. Population, agriculture, smuggling, and insurgency effected by the
weather. How areas, structures, capabilities, organizations, people and events affect the civilian
populace. Lastly about the society, social structure, culture, language, power and authority, and
interests of the Philippines. The geography and past conflicts of the Philippines have drastically
shaped the socio culture of the Philippines. Being an archipelagoof 7,107 islands, it has caught the
interests of the Spanish and Japanese. The Spanish American War of 1898 and the also during
World War II when the Japanese invaded the Philippines. With the number of islands the Philippines
have, the navies played a significant role in the invasions. The Philippine archipelago has more than
1,490 ports that serve to connect its major islands. The transport infrastructure includes 306 miles of

The Life You Save May Be Your Own Short Story Analysis
What brings you true joy? Is it family and friends, a religion, or some material item? In the short
story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor gives examples of what can
bring Tom Shiftlet joy and what he chooses instead. A tramp, Shiftlet, wanders to the Crater
house in search of a job. Mrs. Crater knows her farm needs a good fixing, so she allows Shiftlet
to sleep in the car and will feed him if he fixes things at the house. Mrs. Crater tries to pawn her
daughter, Lucynell, off on Shiftlet. Mrs Crater offers the car Mr. Shiftlet fixed, a place to live, and
$17.50 just to marry Lucynell. Shiftlet finally agrees and accepts the bribe. On their honeymoon,
Shiftlet leaves Lucynell at a diner and moves forward with his new car. A major theme that O
Connor repeated throughout her short storywas how many things can block your vision of what
truly matters in life. O Connor reflects in all of her writings that God, and his gifts, are the things
that can bring everlasting joy. She knows that there are always roadblocks in the way, though.
Throughout the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor uses
literary elements of symbolism, characterization, and naturalism to develop her theme of finding
what truly matters in life. Symbols within a story can help to represent greater meaning out of
one piece of work. Flannery develops symbolism through the car and through Shiftlet. Shiftlet is
compared to Christ the savior many times, but then later reveals himself to be more of an anti
Christ. O Connor describes Shiftlet as a wanderer who, swung both his whole and his short arm
slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross (O Connor
675). This is the first time that Flannery compares Shiftlet to JesusChrist by forming a cross. The
cross is very symbolic towards Jesus because that is how God shows his love to all mankind.
Shiftlet only has one arm, though, which shows that if he were to be compared to Jesus, he
would be a flawed Christ. Not only does the crooked cross symbolize a flawed Christ, but also
foreshadows that Shiftlet may tend to show a flaw or even deny God s compassion. The car that
Shiftlet voluntarily fixes is also a

Socio-American Critical Thinking
To start off this article, we are going to look over a group of different writings and writers in
different positions and fields of study. When talking about academic freedom people have trouble
finding the boundaries, which is not to say those boundaries are always pressed or necessarily
stretched. It can be a rocky path to decide how to express your ideas and thoughts, these days there
are so many guides, methods, styles and types of writing that it can even be confusing at times.
What does the liberty to express free thinking ideas, a person s rights of writing and speech, and the
pursuit of truth really mean? We can t all be in each other s heads, hearing the thoughts as the gears
grind them out, and everyone thinks differently so this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Covering some common subjects is becoming harder and harder in tenure because of the social
and economic nature of the topic. In many of these writings there has been examples of ways to
properly agree and disagree with something and avoid being confrontational and continue to be
professional.
How to fit design elements into a paper in the proper way is extremely important and is directly
linked to the best practices for writing a constructive paper, this ties in well with freedom of speech.
If an argument is not compiled and constructed properly, it will most likely be combated with
another greater argument and could possibly offend someone. At the university level problem
solving and thinking of ways to enhance solutions need to be derived out of useful ideas, the more
time people spend fighting about things.
Behavior due to policy change involving academic freedom causes conflict, also differing
regulations and policies cause question and creates thinking and expression that in most cases is
not ideal. The issue of academic freedom is multifaceted and is a very broad subject with many
sub topics, many writers, students or professors are unjustly treated because of an expression or
belief they have

Egg Came Before Chicken Research Paper
What came first the chicken or the egg? This has been a debated question for some time now.
Some say the chicken came first, some say the egg came first, and others have no idea. In our
opinion, the egg came before the chicken no matter how you look at it. Rather, you are
religious, or you believe in science, the egg came before the chicken. In this research paper Mike
and I will be explaining how we think the egg came before the chicken from a religious point of
view and a scientific point of view. First, we will be explaining how the egg came before the
chicken from a religious point of view. Genesis 1:24 said And God said, Let the earth bring forth
the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:
and it was so. This bible quote says how God created land animals, but it does not say they
magically appeared on earth. One way you can look at it is God created an egg and the egg hatch,
and there is your chicken. It is also a possibility that he created a proto chicken egg, or a non
chicken egg that hatched a non chicken,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am a spiritual person, and I believe in God. I also believe in science to a certain extent.I also
believe that he did put some mature animal on earth and allowed them to skip birth, but I do not
think this is the situation for the chicken. I believe God created a non chicken which eventually
gave birth to a chicken egg which hatched a chicken. I know that genetic mutation is possible, so
this is how I believe the chicken was born. Over time, due to genetic mutation a chicken was
hatched from a chicken egg. My explanation is biblical as well as scientific. I inputted
information from both point of views in my explanation because, I am a spiritual guy and I also
agree with science, and I believe that I expressed my answer in both ways the best that I could and
I do not see myself getting persuaded to change my

Theme Of Injustice In The Scottsboro Boys
True Injustice Prepared to see The Scottsboro Boys, I awaited in the view obstructed row H
behind a mountain of curly red hair. Between my challenged vision, in pair with a simple wooden
set which dragged into the theater, not much grabbed my attention. Oh, how wrong I would quickly
prove to be. Boom! Like a firecracker on the Fourth of July, people, shouts, and cheers exploded into
the room. My head swiveled in every direction, overwhelmed by the euphoric commotion that
flooded into the theatre. At that moment, I couldn t help but smile... a smile that would soon fade.
This time can we tell the truth? Right off the bat, the Scottsboro Boysset the tone. Nine African
American boys falsely accused of raping two white females on a train in Alabama during the 1930
s. It came as no surprise that truth and injustice were woven into the plot. Yet, the manifestation of
these corruptions develops through the incomparable resilience and integrity displayed by the
Scottsboro Boysin this production. Against all odds, they never wavered in their struggle for
freedom, exhibiting unmatched perseverance and aligning themselves with the truth. To start, one
of the many things that stood out to me was The Lady who was mysteriously present in every
scene. Without lines until the very end of the performance, it was like she was watching and
learning from the play simultaneously with audience. Initially, I couldn t pinpoint the importance of
her role in the production, yet along with

Religion In Chronicles Of Narnia By C. S. Lewis
ABSENCE OF A FANTASTICAL RELIGION IN THE BOOKS Since mentioning any already
existing present religious belief in her books Rowling would have created a greater controversy
she should have invented a new religion to appease both sides of critics. But she does not do so
which creates even more questions since before her many fantasy writers have either created an
altogether new world where new religious order prevail or have retained strong biblical allegory
such as C.S Lewis s Chronicles of Narnia where Aslan the great lion is a metaphor of the creator
of the universe or God. Creation of Narnia is shown in similar light to the creation of the universe,
along with that there is also a garden similar to the Garden of Eden where the little protagonist,

James And The Giant Peach Analysis
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl is a classic children s novel that intells the exciting
story of a young orphan boy named James. James lives a lonely and depressing life with his two
cruel and abusive aunts. His life is completely transformed as an old man approaches him in his
backyard and gives him magical green pebbles. After James accidentally drops these magical
pebbles into the ground, one of the peaches from the tree planted in his backyard begins to grow to
a massive scale. James then enters the peach and begins his journey with all the personified insects
that are already in the peach. This light hearted children s novelby Roald Dahlhas drastically
impacted my life in the most profound ways.
Roald Dahl was born on 13th of September 1916, in Llandaff, South Wales. Dahl attended
Llandaff Cathedral School as a young child, but due to his misbehavior and his mother s
husband s wishes he later transferred to St. Peter s, a British boarding school (A E Networks

Dj Kol Herc Hip Hop History
Like any style of music, hip hop has roots in other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many
different artists, but there s a case to be made that it came to life precisely on this day in 1973, at
a birthday party in the recreation room of an apartment building in the west Bronx, New York
City. The location of that birthplace was 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, and the man who presided over
that historic party was the birthday girl s brother, Clive Campbell better known to history as DJ
Kool Herc, founding father of hip hop.
When hip hop music first developed in the late 1970s, not many people knew about it. It was
created in the poorest districts of New York City by African American and Latino teenagers as
part of a hip hop scene that also produced breakdancing and graffiti art. Many of these young
people were unemployed, but some found work as DJs in discos where they learned deejaying
techniques like how to use two turntables and a DJ mixer to play records non stop. Sometimes
they d also deejay at free block parties in their neighbourhoods where they d play funk and disco
tracks non stop and ask a friend to act as their MC. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Apollo 13 Analysis
The movie that I have selected is Apollo 13 directed by Ron Howard. The movie was filmed in

Persuasive Essay On The Lottery
If you live in the United States of America then you know exactly what the Powerball is.
Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of
America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they
can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this
lotterygame is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where
you bought your ticket from. When a Powerballticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent
of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and
twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket.
The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball
money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on
things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets,
and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be
given to schools.
Initially, the state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of the
Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using that
money on things that we already have. They are using this money for local transportation, teacher

Therefore replacing barter with the exchange of money. Greece was a very high class civilization,
where the government was based on city states. Perhaps their greatest invention of all was the
form of government they came up with, which we still use today democracy. However these
Greek democracies are nothing like our democracy today. The probably most well known ruler
of Greece was Alexander the Great. He was the leader of Macedonia, the city state that took
control over Greece, and he eventually gained control over Greece as a whole. Alexander the
Great was probably the best leader of all time in Greece. He conquered new lands, but he was the
first person to adopt the new land s customs, instead of forcing his customs on the new territory.
This is why many of the civilizations he conquered actually were glad he took them over. He
also encouraged his soldiers to marry the women from the new territories to show cultural

Wireless Security And Vulnerability In The Wireless Network
Vulnerability in the Wireless Network

Abstract
Wi Fi can be found anywhere in this day in age, you can walk into almost any establishment and
you ll be sure to find their Wi Fi, accessible from anywhere within their spaces. Each data packet
being transmitted through the air, whether containing private, sensitive or insensitive information,
is available for an attacker to capture. To fight against this, there have been some standards that
have come out through the years to guard and protect data, such as WPA. All standards have been
created to replace the preceding one due to vulnerabilities found in the engineering of them. Still to
this day, not every standard is fully secure, attackers still find ... Show more content on

Although, there is one of the vulnerabilities that is pretty much impossible to guard against, DoS
like Molta points out, Other problems are looming, the most pernicious of which are DoS
(denial of service) attacks. While DoS is a fact of life on all networks, it s worse on wireless
networks because not only do you need to guard against attacks at Layer 2 and above, you re also
extremely vulnerable to physical layer attacks to the medium (Molta, 2002, p. 18). In this essay,
some vulnerabilities will be looked at that can affect Wi Fihome users as well as businesses that
implement wireless networks because both types of networks can be affected by the same types of
intrusion or disruption attacks. Even though this paper is about vulnerabilities, it is important to
point out that wi fi networks can still be operated safely with a high level of security in place.
Wireless networks are considered vulnerable when an incident occurs that exploits the capability to
perform the desired requirement of maintaining performance and concealment of data. Most
vulnerabilities happen because of the science behind a wireless network, the fact that it uses air as
a medium makes it harder to protects because the environment of air is not stable and when it

Bridge 1:
As a result of the verse having a bar added to the end, the first phrase of both bridges have 5 bars

start and the end of both bridges tonally are quite unstable. The bridge is an unusual 11 and a half

Myth Essay
How flip flops got their flop. There once was a goddess with a mystical power that made
everyone happy; as long as she was happy they were happy. That goddess name was Ella. Ella has
a twin brother named Evan. Evan has the power of mind control. Ella lived high in the sky on
clouds amongst the other god. Ella and the other gods got along very well especially when she
was in a good mood. After living in the clouds for a very long time all the gods got tired of doing
regular deeds for themselves. They decided to do something big to create something. They all
joined together in a big circle around the largest cloud and spun around three hundred and sixty five
times. As they all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fresh was the god of fire. After hearing what the serpent had suggested just to be on the safe side
Ella, agreed with this collaboration. Ella really didn t want to have Fresh involved because bad
things tend to happen when he is around. When Ella first heard of the words come out of the
serpents mouth she threw the shoe. While in the air the shoe did a flip and it hit a tree made a big
WHACK, and had a very loud FLOP. Ella liked that sound, she wanted to hear it again so she
threw shoe again. Finally Fresh came, to tighten the knots with fire. He rubbed his thumb and
middle finger together and a spark of fire appeared. As soon as the spark appeared he put the fire
on the knots and then snapped to make the fire go away. As soon as Ella saw the finished product
she was amazed. She tried the shoe on it had a strap like a v shape. She remembered when she
threw the shoe how it flipped and then made a loud FLOP. She named these shoes

Sociologist- Ervin Goffman
A) For many years, sociologists have been studying the importance of human interaction and how it
contributes to society. Sociologist like Erving Goffman and Harold Garfinkel, and Max Weber have
made great contributions to helping us understand how society is created through social interaction,
routines, organization and order. In my report, I will be demonstrating how society and social order
are maintained through social interaction, and relationships in a retail store named Urban planet .
Throughout my report I will be referring to sociologist to Erving Goffman. I will be observing how

the front stage. (Gidden, 1991) Saving face which is another term created by Erving Goffman is
used to describe when individuals feel embarrassed, and they try to maintain their orderliness by
acknowledging that you have done wrong. The next concept that will be applying to my
observation is cultural objects. The term cultural object is an object or symbol that has multiple
meanings; in society we negotiated around these objects for power purposes. The next term that I
will be focusing on in civil inattention which was created by Erving Goffman, is acknowledging a
human being that is in close proximity, without creating conversation with them and not invading
their personal space. Breeching civil inattention is the breaking of civil inattention. This is
interacting that you may or may not know. Breeching civil inattention commonly happens when
males approach female in public spaces which leads to the concept street remarks. The next
concepts that I will be talking about is public and personal distance. Public distance is beyond

Most of the interaction between Muffley and Turgidson, consists of Muffley
attempting to retrieve accurate and useful intelligence from Turgidson. Muffley becomes
increasingly vexed by Turgidson s evasive and overall unhelpful responses. Although
Muffley scolds Turgidson, this does not prevent him from criticizing the President in
front of all the other government officials. Turgidson s open subordination reveals a lack
of respect for the President. This suggests that Muffley s status as leader of the free world
is not enough to compensate for his emasculated nature. Turgidson s hyper masculinity
provides him with the confidence needed to deliberate disobey Muffley; even going so

Radiotelephony History
Today we refer to our phones as cellphones or mobile phones. However, that was not the case
when they first came about. The term radiotelephony was used to describe what we now call our
cell phones. Early radiotelephony, early dating back to the 1940 s, services was available for a
very small amount of people. The very first mobile phones were better known as radiotelephones
and were first used in the early part of the last century. Radiotelephones were originally used for
ship to shore or ship to ship communications. Inventor and entrepreneur Guglielmo Marconi, is

He is also credited with being the first person to make a call from a handheld cell phone. Mr.
Cooper s invention was later improved and marketed by Motorola. The handheld cellphone was
called the DynaTAC 8000x. The phone weighed over two pounds, had 35 minutes of talk time,
with eight hours of standby. It also had a recharging cycle of ten hours. The DynaTAC 8000x is
known to everyone as the original brick phone. The phone could only store up to 30 numbers
and retailed for about $4,000. Even though the first cellphone had been developed and patented,
no city wide commercial analogue cellular service had been established. In May of 1973, the
Baharain Telephone Company is assumed to have established the first city wide commercial
analogue cellular system. This cellular system only had two working cells and was restricted to
twenty channels. The cellular system was supporting 250 subscribers in spite of its small system.
Not falling far behind was Japan who was next in line. Japan followed with the operator Nippon
Telephone and Telegraph. With this they presented the first generation cellular service into Tokyo
in 1979. In 1981, just shortly after Japan, cellular service became available in Northern Europe.
The Nordic Mobile Telephone Service went into act across the Nordic countries of northeastern
Europe. Those Nordic countries include: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and a few related

The two different worlds the factory and the academy
David Lodge presents the two main characters namely Vic Wilcox ,not actually a religious man and
Robyn Penrose the opposite, a bright woman , a lecturer and a feminist. The two realize that they
complete themselves and they end up being in a relationship.
The novel is a contemporary novel . The author presents Robyn as a woman not that clever that
she thinks she is. She is not as smart as she want to be and that is why she is unable to feel or to
understand what true love means . That is why she had an affair with Charles.

I can t imagine a world without justice, but the utilitarian principle fails to supports the need for a

Ignorance Is Bliss in Flannery O Connor s Good Country...
Flannery O Connor s Good Country People has a steady demonstration of irony, much of it based
on the title of the story. Ignorance is also a major issue in the work, both Ms. Freeman and Ms.
Hopewell exhibit this clearly. However ironically, Hulga exhibits this with her knowledge. She
takes pride in her own intellect and in her knowledge of existentialism. Hulga s existentialist ideas
come crashing down because of her naГЇvetГ© and lack of dependence on others. Hulga believes
she is self sustained however she realizes when the bible salesman steals her leg that this isn t so.
Hulga s lack of dependence on others may be the cause of her emotional downfall when she realizes

This biblical allusion to the way Jesus washed away the shame and sin of his followers
demonstrates the way Hulga views Manley s innocence in contrast to her all knowing capabilities.
The irony is that Hulga s assumptions about Manley again demonstrate her own ingenuousness.
When Hulga is left in the barn without her leg, the reader knows that a different Hulga will
emerge. O Connor indirectly specifies that the theft of her leg and the betrayal by Manly leaves her
totally dependant on the grace of God. Ironically this makes Manly the lashing force of grace upon
which Hulga is now dependant.
O Connor shocks Hulga out of her state of satisfaction by bringing her into an awareness of her
meagerness in the eyes of God. This happens in a way that is emotionally cruel to her. Since the
beginning of the story and throughout, Hulga shuts herself off from a spiritual union with God. She
thinks she possesses everything she needs to be a functionally whole person; however the reader
can see that this isn t so through her incident with Manly and how heavily she becomes dependant
on someone else. In effect, Hulga s situation can be expressed as an argument between religions
ironically, since Hulga does not believe in God. Protestantism holds that a person ultimately
determines his or her own faith and beliefs and that salvation from God comes entirely from a
personal connection with him and Catholicism states that salvation comes through a

Attachment Theory Essay
Chris Livoti3/5/13
IB Psychology Mrs. Urso John Bowlby is the pioneer of the attachment theory and worked with
children who had been separated from their parents during World War 2. He observed that many
of these children developed emotional problems, and he made the connection that the emotional
problems stemmed from the separation from the mother. Bowlby was born in London to an
upper class family, and would rarely see, and interact with his mother. At the young age of seven
he was sent off to boarding school, which was very common for boys of his social status. He would
later go on to say I wouldn t send a dog away to boarding school at age seven. These circumstances

Finally was mild deprivation which could result in minor problems for the child, but no serious
complications. Bowlby s main theory which he is most well known for is his Attachment Theory.
Bowlby believed that for a strong attachment to be formed there must be proximity maintenance
(the desire to be near the people we are attached to), a safe haven(returning to the attachment figure
for comfort and safety in the face of a fear or threat), a secure base(the attachment figure acts as a
base of security from which the child can explore the surrounding environment),and separation
distress (anxiety that occurs in the absence of the attachment figure). The main points of his
attachment theory were that a child has an innate need to attach to one main attachment
figure(monotropy). Another main point in his theory was that he believed a child should receive
the continuous care of the single most important attachment figure for the first two years of life.
Bowlby used the term maternal deprivation to refer to the failure to develop an attachment, and to
refer to the separation or loss of a mother. To support his hypothesis that the relationship between the
infant and mother in the first five years was crucial to socialization, and the disruption of this
relationship can lead to emotional difficulties, antisocial behavior, and delinquency, he studied forty
four juvenile delinquents in a child guidance clinic. The study was called the forty four thieves

Jewish people in America is unique because Jewish American are known as belonging to the

A Report On The Los Penasquitos Trail
In late October our class explored the Los Penasquitos Trail in Sorrento Valley and collected
samples of the area s vegetation, water sources and soil. We hiked early in the morning on a dry,
dirt trail surrounded by drought resistant landscaping. The soil samples for this experiment were
collected from the descending end of a hill leading down to the Wagon Creek Bridge. It was our
assumption that this area would have more microorganisms because of the increased foot traffic.
The purpose of this report is to discuss the bacteriawe discovered in our soil sample. The samples
were kept in plastic tubes with a closed lid until we were ready for analysis. One gram of the soil
was measured out from the tube and mixed with 20ml of deionized water. A serial dilution was
prepared consisting of five glass test tubes filled with 9ml of culture broth. Afterwards, 1ml of the
soil was piped from the center of the sample and placed into the first tube of the serial dilution. We
lightly capped each tube and incubated the sample under a ventilation hood at room temperature
(~24ВєC) for 48 hours. After the incubation period the samples were mixed well will a vortex. We
then piped 1ml of the first dilution into the second dilution and mixed thoroughly with the vortex.
This process was repeated with remainder of the dilutions.. Streak plates were prepared in petri

Margaret Cavendish Called The Blazing World Summary
The Superiority Complex of Mankind Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a New World,
Called The Blazing World, is a 17th century work of prose fiction that represents a satirical,
utopian kingdom within a different world ( Margaret Cavendish, The Duchess of Newcastle. ). A
young woman from Earth enters this new world, meeting a society composed of various species of
talking animals; these hybrid animals from The Blazing World illustrate the readers understanding
of the relationship between humans and nature. In representing hybrid creatures as figures of

pulling them together in her fictional story through a common interest of science and arts it

as equally exceptional to humans in some respects is explored in The Well ordered Universe:
The Philosophy of Margaret Cavendish, she comments that animals may display greater
knowledge in certain areas compared to humans, despite the assumption by most natural
philosophers that cognitively speaking, man doth excel all other animals (Hayden, 108). In
Cavendish s Philosophy, she writes, For what man knows, whether fish do not know more of the
nature of water, and ebbing and flowing, and the saltness of the sea? Or whether birds do not
know more of the nature and degrees of air, or the cause of tempests? Or whether worms do not

Sick Days Policy Analysis
Superior s current policy of seven vacation days and five sick days a year for the employees is

Roe V Wade Essay
In 1973, the Supreme Court legalized abortion in the Roe v. Wade case. The law of abortion is
important because it has to do with the decision of choosing to end the life of an unborn child. It
allows women to decide whether or not they are prepared to carry a child inside of them over the
course of nine months. Over time there has been a lot of debate on whether or not a woman
should be allowed to make this decision, and on certain restrictions that should be applied to these
cases. In the past decades there have been many court cases and laws that have either supported

reading this article because I had previously never contemplated how differently sports were
televised in the past, why sports broadcastingis the way it is today, and who was largely responsible
for this dramatic change. Roone Arledge was born in Queens, New York City on July 8th, 1931
and grew up in the suburbs of Long Island where he excelled in both academics and sports. This
led him to eventually enroll at the prestigious Colombia University, where he had aspirations of
becoming a professional writer while working as editor for the student newspaper (Marc). His
interest in journalism and television production prompted him

Solomon Asch Conformity Experiment
The Solomon Asch s Conformity Study is an experiment where a standard line is shown to an
audience along with three other lines: one will be longer, one will be shorter, one will be the
exact same line as the standard. The goal is to identify which is the same line A, B, or C and the
answer was always obvious. The task is simple, but a person will be the only real participant in
the room while the seven others are confederates who were pretending to be participants and who
were trying to use social pressure to get the participant to conform with the majority group. For
example, if the real answer was A, the confederates would try to throw off the real participant by
saying the answer is B. With the majority saying B is the correct answer, the real participant would
agree with them, even knowing the answer is wrong because everyone else didn t say A.
The experiment was tested on 50 male students from Swarthmore College, and on average, about
32% of the participants conformed to the incorrect answer with the majority. ... Show more content

In the control group, with no pressure to conform to confederates, less than 1% of participants
gave the wrong answer. (McLeod, S. A. 2008). An interview was later given, and everyone said
they felt like they gave the correct answer for all, fearing they would be the outsider even though
they know they gave the wrong answers. This revealed the power of a group where the odd one
out would give in and agree with the majority in order to fit in. However, this destroys a person s
judgement. Asch s response to the results was that The tendency to conformity in our society is so
strong that reasonably intelligent and well meaning young people are willing to call white black.
This is a matter of concern. It raises questions about our ways of education and about the values that
guide our conduct. (Solomon Asch conformity

Fresh Off The Boat Analysis
Fresh off the boat was created by Nahnatchka Khan. It is a comedy series starring Ranall Park,
Constance Wu, and Hidson Yang. This show is the first Asian American family Television show.
There are a total of 30 episodes which is 2 seasons. The show was a huge hit that it got
nominated as Young Artist Award and won. In the first episode Fresh off the boat we were
introduced to a Chinese family that moves to suburban Orlando. It centers on the father who is
obsessed with all things American, a mother who is bewildered by a white culture and a hip hop
loving son (Eddie). In the beginning we get a glimpse of how the family feels about moving to
Orlando. The mother is completely against it and the children are worried about fitting in. The
father on the other hand is excited about opening his American Restaurant; that is the reason they
moved in the first place. In the few days the family moved,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The mother had to fit in with the white women in her neighborhood and had to be engaged with
their daily routines. Eddie had problems of his own; the kids at his school did not understand
why Eddie ate a nasty lunch and that caused Eddie to beg his mom to buy him American food so
he can take it to lunch. The only one in the family who did not have troubles was the younger
son who found a girlfriend on his first day at school. The show is something new I have not
seen. It makes me realize of how different an American culture is to other foreigners. We are
custom to this culture we do not see how other people have to struggle. The first episode in my
opinion felt discrimination towards the Chinese family, because of how they had to change the
way they lived just to fit in. Sometimes we are not aware of how other people that just moved to
America have to go through and we expect them to already learn, and change their way just so we
can be pleased. Overall the show was funny and

Types of Attacks
Web browsers were at first intended for recovering and showing data assets on the internet in

The Drug Approval Process Essay
The drug approval process is a complicated labyrinth that sometimes seems impossible to navigate.
There are guidelines, protocols, procedures and standards that each person in the process are
expected to follow. This includes the doctors, principle investigators, researchers, pharmaceutical
companies, the regulatory bodies and yes, the patients. The patients are by far the most important
aspect of a clinical trialand obtaining drug approval. Without the willing volunteers in clinical trials
there would not be treatments and cures for many diseases today. There are a lot of factors that go
into getting a new medication to the open market, including many phases of clinical research. The
roles of the FDA, various research laboratories and the pharmaceutical companies all play a pivotal
role in the time that it takes to obtain drug approval. There are many obstacles associated with each
step including funding and how that impacts the consumer costs.
Our country began with no limitations on goods and quickly progressed to enforcing accurate
labeling and mandatory testing. This has advanced to enforcing challenging scientific standards,
which tend to be somewhat controversial today. The years between 1938 and 1951 are pegged

December 9th , GM of Reds publicly announced he will take over contract of Griffey, bring him
home as he completed a month of negotiations with the Seattle Mariners GM just to bring Griffey
on the team and trade a few other players from Cincinnati Reds to Seattle Mariners. For the contract
negotiation communication is the link that was used to negotiate the issue/argument whether it is
face to face offer , on the telephone or in writing. The type of negotiation in the case was not just
between two people. Each offer involved several members from both parties, the Seattle Mariners
and Cincinnati Reds.
Offer 1 : Pat Gillick asked for Reese and then trade Griffey to Bowden to Reds team offer was
denied.
Offer 2 : Mariners president and COO , Armstrong asked Goldberg to trade Griffey for NY Mets.
Griffey did not agree and turned down the offer. This is because the agreement is not being

Reaction Paper On Lupus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (more commonly known as lupus) is an autoimmune disease that
affects more women than men, usually between ages 15 to 45. The cause is often unknown,
although in some individuals, the condition may be drug induced. The symptoms may differ from
patient to patient, but commonly include a butterfly rash on the face, ulcerations on the mouth,
nose, and vagina, loss of hair, thick scarring, changes in skin pigmentation, hives, welts, and color
changes in the fingertips as a response to changes in temperature and stress (Raynaud s
phenomena). As the disease progresses, it begins to involve other systems of the body such as the
kidneys, heart, lungs and joints. Symptoms include severe fatigue, fever, dyspnea, swollen glands,...

However, it is best to let your doctor know about symptoms you think are coming from your
drugs. Lupus is often associated with weight gain due to inactivity and medications, so it is
important to eat wisely to achieve a healthy weight. On the other hand, some people experience
poor appetite and weight loss, which can result from the illness or from medications. Consult
your doctor, nurse or registered dietitian who can help evaluate your diet and suggest a suitable
program to help you manage your weight. People who are battling lupus have higher risk of
complications such as heart disease, so it is important to consume a heart healthy as part of
your treatment plan. Your doctor may find you have certain risk factors for heart disease such as
high cholesterol or high blood pressure. You may be advised to take a low fat diet and do exercises
regularly. Your doctor may also recommend a low sodium diet to reduce high blood pressure.
Studies show that omega 3 fatty acids from fish oils or fish may improve risk factors for heart
disease such as high blood pressure and high triglycerides. Foods that are rich in omega 3 fatty
acids include: sardines

My Most Memorable Moment
Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points
against an opponent, to me, it s simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment
happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ).
I and some of my fencingclass entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which
took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the
gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The
tournament took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections
for multiple matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows
of seats on both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second
floor where you could get a bird s eye view of the whole gym.
I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable.
My most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the
experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was
completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone s father. Still, he seems rather confident
and has the tough look of an ex military guy, so I m appropriately intimidated. The First touch was
a parry riposte or a stalemate with two hits on both sides leaving the round up to

The Rise Of Asymmetric Warfare
Question: Analyze the rise of asymmetric warfare. Provide illustrations and assess how it has
reshaped behaviors and outcomes.
The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to an irregular
conflict that is distinct by the relative dissimilarity between opponents in battle. The asymmetry is
derived from the character of warfare and dictated by the difference in relational power amid
warring sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and
resources, goals and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents
in almost all conflicts has varied in many tactical, strategic and operational levels.
A popular perception of today claims that there has been a relatively recent rise in asymmetric
warfare, or conventional irregular warfare that has transformed war from a customary and
symmetric exercise into an irregular, avant garde, asymmetric experience. This perception is
inherently at the foundation of the question in which this essay attempts to respond. In contrast
with this perspective, the main argument of this essay is that asymmetric warfare, although
definitely a characteristic of the times is not a new genus of warfare that has risen in the twentieth
century as a distinct revolution in military affairs. Furthermore, asymmetric warfare cannot be used
as a description to describe deviation from Western norms in this case conflict. Rather, asymmetric
warfare

Criminal Justice Programs In The 1980 s
The United States Criminal Justice System and its policies have subtly changed during the past
century however, there is one policy implemented in the late 1960 s and more intensely enforced in
the 1980 s that many think to be unconstitutional. The police history within the realm of the
American Judicial system has been filled with a need to adapt and reform to new challenges when
it comes to preventing crime. If we think about the 1980s, cops were allowed to stop someone
based on reasonable suspicion and beyond a reasonable doubt, and this is still allowed today under
justification. This is part of their job. PoliceOfficers have the ultimate power to prevent crimes,
through arrests, use of physical force, enforcing the laws, and to stop

  • 2. HBR Regal Carnation Hotel, Guam The case revolves around the Regal Carnation Hotel, located in Guam. Partly narrated by Steve McKenzie, he described his experience with the Regal Carnation Hotel. In his description of the situation, the me too approach to hotel management led to poor service, false representation, and a pricing plan that does not match the value of the hotel. The hotel industry in Guam has important statistical information that will lead to an effective analysis. Over a period of years, Guam has experienced a boost to its tourism industry. The year 1967 was the beginning of that upward trend. that includes support from the United States. However, the decline of the Japanese economy in the 1900 s and onward severely damaged the economy of Guam. How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. McKenzie was immediately uncomfortable with the policy of the hotel. In his line of business, he knew that a successful company would not follow this procedure, when booking a customer s reservation. Our second question was Did the Regal Carnation always misrepresent itself on the website and was this intentional. Looking at the case, it states that the tourism industry was in its maturity state by 2007. During this time hotels were running elaborate campaigns to make their hotels and business stand out. But with the declining pool of tourists, there was less profit to be made and as a result less money to reinvest into the hotel. It is no surprise then; that given time and diminished incentive to reinvest, that the website told a different story than reality. If the McKenzie s would have researched a little more, followed up on their gut intuitions about the Regal Carnation, and considered how it fits in with Guam s overall economy and history perhaps they would have realized the fallacy of deciding upon value based solely on a website. It is commonly believed that each product in business goes through what is called a product life cycle. It can typically be divided into four distinctive categories. Simply put, Introduction, Growth, Maturity and Decline are the four names that describe the different sections. Guam s tourism industry is currently going through the Decline stage of the product life cycle. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Food has to be broken down by the body from things like broccoli and steak into pieces. The nutrients that the body takes from these foods include amino acids from the proteins, fatty acids and cholesterol from the fats, and simple sugars from the carbohydrates, as well as all the vitamins, mineral, and other types of compounds. Digestive enzymes in the pancreas and the small intestine break down the food into nutrients so that the body can absorb them. They are also located in the saliva glands and the stomach; however, we are not going to focus on those. Digestive Enzyme Deficiency It is important to know that when a person has a digestive enzyme deficiency, it could mean that the person has a disease that is preventing the production. Issues that are caused by the deficiency include: Pancreatic problems that include cystic fibrosis, acute or chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer. It can also cause Crohn s disease. • 6. The Life You Save May Be Your Own Short Story Analysis What brings you true joy? Is it family and friends, a religion, or some material item? In the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor gives examples of what can bring Tom Shiftlet joy and what he chooses instead. A tramp, Shiftlet, wanders to the Crater house in search of a job. Mrs. Crater knows her farm needs a good fixing, so she allows Shiftlet to sleep in the car and will feed him if he fixes things at the house. Mrs. Crater tries to pawn her daughter, Lucynell, off on Shiftlet. Mrs Crater offers the car Mr. Shiftlet fixed, a place to live, and $17.50 just to marry Lucynell. Shiftlet finally agrees and accepts the bribe. On their honeymoon, Shiftlet leaves Lucynell at a diner and moves forward with his new car. A major theme that O Connor repeated throughout her short storywas how many things can block your vision of what truly matters in life. O Connor reflects in all of her writings that God, and his gifts, are the things that can bring everlasting joy. She knows that there are always roadblocks in the way, though. Throughout the short story, The Life You Save May Be Your Own, Flannery O Connor uses literary elements of symbolism, characterization, and naturalism to develop her theme of finding what truly matters in life. Symbols within a story can help to represent greater meaning out of one piece of work. Flannery develops symbolism through the car and through Shiftlet. Shiftlet is compared to Christ the savior many times, but then later reveals himself to be more of an anti Christ. O Connor describes Shiftlet as a wanderer who, swung both his whole and his short arm slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross (O Connor 675). This is the first time that Flannery compares Shiftlet to JesusChrist by forming a cross. The cross is very symbolic towards Jesus because that is how God shows his love to all mankind. Shiftlet only has one arm, though, which shows that if he were to be compared to Jesus, he would be a flawed Christ. Not only does the crooked cross symbolize a flawed Christ, but also foreshadows that Shiftlet may tend to show a flaw or even deny God s compassion. The car that Shiftlet voluntarily fixes is also a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Socio-American Critical Thinking To start off this article, we are going to look over a group of different writings and writers in different positions and fields of study. When talking about academic freedom people have trouble finding the boundaries, which is not to say those boundaries are always pressed or necessarily stretched. It can be a rocky path to decide how to express your ideas and thoughts, these days there are so many guides, methods, styles and types of writing that it can even be confusing at times. What does the liberty to express free thinking ideas, a person s rights of writing and speech, and the pursuit of truth really mean? Covering some common subjects is becoming harder and harder in tenure because of the social and economic nature of the topic. In many of these writings there has been examples of ways to properly agree and disagree with something and avoid being confrontational and continue to be professional. How to fit design elements into a paper in the proper way is extremely important and is directly linked to the best practices for writing a constructive paper, this ties in well with freedom of speech. If an argument is not compiled and constructed properly, it will most likely be combated with another greater argument and could possibly offend someone. At the university level problem solving and thinking of ways to enhance solutions need to be derived out of useful ideas, the more time people spend fighting about things. Behavior due to policy change involving academic freedom causes conflict, also differing regulations and policies cause question and creates thinking and expression that in most cases is not ideal. • 8. Egg Came Before Chicken Research Paper What came first the chicken or the egg? This has been a debated question for some time now. Some say the chicken came first, some say the egg came first, and others have no idea. In our opinion, the egg came before the chicken no matter how you look at it. Rather, you are religious, or you believe in science, the egg came before the chicken. In this research paper Mike and I will be explaining how we think the egg came before the chicken from a religious point of view and a scientific point of view. First, we will be explaining how the egg came before the chicken from a religious point of view. Genesis 1:24 said And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. This bible quote says how God created land animals, but it does not say they magically appeared on earth. One way you can look at it is God created an egg and the egg hatch, and there is your chicken. It is also a possibility that he created a proto chicken egg, or a non chicken egg that hatched a non chicken,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe God created a non chicken which eventually gave birth to a chicken egg which hatched a chicken. I know that genetic mutation is possible, so this is how I believe the chicken was born. Over time, due to genetic mutation a chicken was hatched from a chicken egg. My explanation is biblical as well as scientific. I inputted information from both point of views in my explanation because, I am a spiritual guy and I also agree with science, and I believe that I expressed my answer in both ways the best that I could and I do not see myself getting persuaded to change my ... Between my challenged vision, in pair with a simple wooden set which dragged into the theater, not much grabbed my attention. Oh, how wrong I would quickly prove to be. Boom! Like a firecracker on the Fourth of July, people, shouts, and cheers exploded into the room. My head swiveled in every direction, overwhelmed by the euphoric commotion that flooded into the theatre. At that moment, I couldn t help but smile... a smile that would soon fade. This time can we tell the truth? Right off the bat, the Scottsboro Boysset the tone. Nine African American boys falsely accused of raping two white females on a train in Alabama during the 1930 s. It came as no surprise that truth and injustice were woven into the plot. Yet, the manifestation of these corruptions develops through the incomparable resilience and integrity displayed by the Scottsboro Boysin this production. Against all odds, they never wavered in their struggle for freedom, exhibiting unmatched perseverance and aligning themselves with the truth. To start, one of the many things that stood out to me was The Lady who was mysteriously present in every scene. Without lines until the very end of the performance, it was like she was watching and learning from the play simultaneously with audience. • 12. Dj Kol Herc Hip Hop History Like any style of music, hip hop has roots in other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many different artists, but there s a case to be made that it came to life precisely on this day in 1973, at a birthday party in the recreation room of an apartment building in the west Bronx, New York City. The location of that birthplace was 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, and the man who presided over that historic party was the birthday girl s brother, Clive Campbell better known to history as DJ Kool Herc, founding father of hip hop. When hip hop music first developed in the late 1970s, not many people knew about it. It was created in the poorest districts of New York City by African American and Latino teenagers as part of a hip hop scene that also produced breakdancing and graffiti art. Many of these young people were unemployed, but some found work as DJs in discos where they learned deejaying techniques like how to use two turntables and a DJ mixer to play records non stop. The movie was filmed in 1995 and the lead roles were played by Tom Hanks as Jim Lovell, Bill Paxton as Fred Haise, Kevin Bacon as Jack Swigert, Gary Sinise as Kevin Mattingly, and Ed Harris as Gene Kranz. Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this lotterygame is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where you bought your ticket from. When a Powerballticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket. The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets, and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be given to schools. The probably most well known ruler of Greece was Alexander the Great. He was the leader of Macedonia, the city state that took control over Greece, and he eventually gained control over Greece as a whole. Alexander the Great was probably the best leader of all time in Greece. Wireless Security And Vulnerability In The Wireless Network Vulnerability in the Wireless Network Rafael Reccy Seminole State College Abstract Wi Fi can be found anywhere in this day in age, you can walk into almost any establishment and you ll be sure to find their Wi Fi, accessible from anywhere within their spaces. Each data packet being transmitted through the air, whether containing private, sensitive or insensitive information, is available for an attacker to capture. To fight against this, there have been some standards that have come out through the years to guard and protect data, such as WPA. Wireless networks are considered vulnerable when an incident occurs that exploits the capability to perform the desired requirement of maintaining performance and concealment of data. Most vulnerabilities happen because of the science behind a wireless network, the fact that it uses air as a medium makes it harder to protects because the environment of air is not stable and when it comes to delivering sacred information you must be on ... O Connor indirectly specifies that the theft of her leg and the betrayal by Manly leaves her totally dependant on the grace of God. Bowlby believed that for a strong attachment to be formed there must be proximity maintenance (the desire to be near the people we are attached to), a safe haven(returning to the attachment figure for comfort and safety in the face of a fear or threat), a secure base(the attachment figure acts as a base of security from which the child can explore the surrounding environment),and separation distress (anxiety that occurs in the absence of the attachment figure). The main points of his attachment theory were that a child has an innate need to attach to one main attachment figure(monotropy). Another main point in his theory was that he believed a child should receive the continuous care of the single most important attachment figure for the first two years of life. Bowlby used the term maternal deprivation to refer to the failure to develop an attachment, and to refer to the separation or loss of a mother. To support his hypothesis that the relationship between the infant and mother in the first five years was crucial to socialization, and the disruption of this relationship can lead to emotional difficulties, antisocial behavior, and delinquency, he studied forty four juvenile delinquents in a child guidance clinic. On May 17, 1954, Chief Justice Warren read the decision of the unanimous Court: quot;We come then to the question presented: Does segregation of children in public schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other quot;tangible quot; factors may be equal, deprive the children of the minority group of equal educational opportunities? We believe that it does...We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of separate but equal has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. Therefore, we hold that the plaintiffs and others similarly situated for whom the actions have been brought are, by reason of the segregation complained of, deprived of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment (Schwartz, 198). The Supreme Court struck down the quot;separate but equal quot; doctrine of Plessy for public education, ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of schools across America (Cray, 1 2) . Besides his work in the courtroom, Warren headed the commission that investigated the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He retired in 1969 and died on July 9, 1974, ... Sick Days Policy Analysis Superior s current policy of seven vacation days and five sick days a year for the employees is not ideal for emergencies and for an unscheduled occurrence that may require the employee to take a day off. The policy, as written right now, does not give Joan Jackson enough time to properly staff the areas when an employee calls the morning of shift and states he/ she cannot make it to work today. Right now, employees are using sick days to whatever his/ her need is that day, which is more than likely not in regards to the employee being sick. However, there will still be some days that the employees cannot request off in advance, but this policy would allow the employee a certain time period to tell the employer they cannot make it to work on a given day. By offering this type of time off structure, it will help the employer more time to plan and prepare for the staff shortage in a more efficient manner. Also, paid time off helps the employer and employee not have to differentiate what is acceptable and applicable to a holiday and sick day and it will help motivate the employees to not use a sick day unless he/ she is actually sick (Hulett, 2007). The law of abortion is important because it has to do with the decision of choosing to end the life of an unborn child. It allows women to decide whether or not they are prepared to carry a child inside of them over the course of nine months. Over time there has been a lot of debate on whether or not a woman should be allowed to make this decision, and on certain restrictions that should be applied to these cases. In the past decades there have been many court cases and laws that have either supported pro life groups or challenged them. Roe v. This quote by Arledge is an example of his talent and know how for developing new ideas that not only provide a quality viewing experience, but also appeal to a mass audience. His ideas were revolutionary, and changed the way sports were watched and the entire televisionindustry forever. I initially chose to write my paper on Roone Arledge because I have been an avid watcher of televised sports for a long time, but I had never heard of Arledge until reading the article The Impact of Roone Arledge on Televised Sports by Randy Roberts and James Olsen in our required reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article because I had previously never contemplated how differently sports were televised in the past, why sports broadcastingis the way it is today, and who was largely responsible for this dramatic change. Roone Arledge was born in Queens, New York City on July 8th, 1931 and grew up in the suburbs of Long Island where he excelled in both academics and sports. This led him to eventually enroll at the prestigious Colombia University, where he had aspirations of becoming a professional writer while working as editor for the student newspaper (Marc). Solomon Asch Conformity Experiment The Solomon Asch s Conformity Study is an experiment where a standard line is shown to an audience along with three other lines: one will be longer, one will be shorter, one will be the exact same line as the standard. The goal is to identify which is the same line A, B, or C and the answer was always obvious. The task is simple, but a person will be the only real participant in the room while the seven others are confederates who were pretending to be participants and who were trying to use social pressure to get the participant to conform with the majority group. For example, if the real answer was A, the confederates would try to throw off the real participant by saying the answer is B. With the majority saying B is the correct answer, the real participant would agree with them, even knowing the answer is wrong because everyone else didn t say A. The experiment was tested on 50 male students from Swarthmore College, and on average, about 32% of the participants conformed to the incorrect answer with the majority. ... This revealed the power of a group where the odd one out would give in and agree with the majority in order to fit in. However, this destroys a person s judgement. Asch s response to the results was that The tendency to conformity in our society is so strong that reasonably intelligent and well meaning young people are willing to call white black. This show is the first Asian American family Television show. There are a total of 30 episodes which is 2 seasons. The show was a huge hit that it got nominated as Young Artist Award and won. In the first episode Fresh off the boat we were introduced to a Chinese family that moves to suburban Orlando. It centers on the father who is obsessed with all things American, a mother who is bewildered by a white culture and a hip hop loving son (Eddie). In the beginning we get a glimpse of how the family feels about moving to Orlando. The mother is completely against it and the children are worried about fitting in. My Most Memorable Moment Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points against an opponent, to me, it s simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ). I and some of my fencingclass entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The tournament took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections for multiple matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows of seats on both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second floor where you could get a bird s eye view of the whole gym. I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable. My most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone s father. Still, he seems rather confident and has the tough look of an ex military guy, so I m appropriately intimidated. • 51. The Rise Of Asymmetric Warfare Question: Analyze the rise of asymmetric warfare. Provide illustrations and assess how it has reshaped behaviors and outcomes. The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to an irregular conflict that is distinct by the relative dissimilarity between opponents in battle. The asymmetry is derived from the character of warfare and dictated by the difference in relational power amid warring sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and resources, goals and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents in almost all conflicts has varied in many tactical, strategic and operational levels. A popular perception of today claims that there has been a relatively recent rise in asymmetric warfare, or conventional irregular warfare that has transformed war from a customary and symmetric exercise into an irregular, avant garde, asymmetric experience. This perception is inherently at the foundation of the question in which this essay attempts to respond. In contrast with this perspective, the main argument of this essay is that asymmetric warfare, although definitely a characteristic of the times is not a new genus of warfare that has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct revolution in military affairs. Furthermore, asymmetric warfare cannot be used as a description to describe deviation from Western norms in this case conflict. Rather, asymmetric warfare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
