Global warming is caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trapping heat in the atmosphere. This is raising the average temperature of the earth. Effects of global warming worldwide include melting ice, more extreme weather like floods and storms, and rising sea levels. In Greece specifically, higher temperatures are increasing wildfire risk, hurting agricultural production by making the ground dry, reducing tourism in the summer due to extreme heat, and exacerbating heart problems that kill older people. Proposed solutions include transitioning to renewable energy, reducing personal carbon footprints, favoring green transportation, and curbing deforestation emissions.
