Types of glaciers
• Continental
• Ice caps
• Highland glaciers
Examples of a Medial Moraine, End Moraine, and Terminal
Moraines.
Erosional Landforms
Cirque/Corrie
Glacial Trough or U-Shaped Valley
Hanging Valley
Arete
Horn
Fjord
Cirque/Corrie: Steep-sided hollow at the head of a valley formed by glacial erosion
Cirque Lake
Glacial Trough: Relatively straight, flat-bottomed, deeper, and steep-sided valley formed by
glacial erosion
Hanging Valley: Tributary valley that is higher than the main valley
Arete: Narrow ridge of rock which separates two valleys
Horn: Two or more glaciers erode the sides of a mountain peak
Fjord: Long, narrow sea inlet with steep sides, created by a glacial erosion
Depositional Landforms
Outwash Plain
Esker
Kame Terraces
Drumlin
Moraine
Lateral Moraine
Medial Moraine
Terminal Moraine
Ground Moraine
Outwash Plain: Formed of glacial sediments deposited by meltwater
Esker: Long, winding ridge of unsorted sand and gravel
Kame Terraces: Broken ridges or unsorted depositions
Drumlin: Elongated hill in the shape of an inverted spoon
Moraine: Unconsolidated glacial debris
