The recent announcement by Ringling Brothers and Barnum &
Bailey that the nation’s top circus would discontinue the use of
elephants in its circuses by 2018 has brought joy to some and
disappointment to others. It has also renewed an old ethical
debate about the use of animals in circuses, a tradition that has
been around for more than 200 years (Davis, 2015).
This paper will present a logical argument on one side of that debate, consider objections from the
other side, and ultimately defend the position that the use of these highly intelligent beings in the
circus is wrong.

A model argumentative essay
- Marine mammals should not be kept in captivity as their life in small tanks and pools bears little resemblance to life in the wild seas. Captivity often results in health problems, stress, and early death for marine mammals.
- Arguments are made that captivity causes health issues for marine mammals due to poor water quality, lack of space, and boredom. It also disrupts natural breeding and parenting behaviors.
- While some benefits of research and education are claimed from captivity, it is argued that the unnatural conditions cannot provide the same learnings as studying animals in their natural habitats. On balance, marine mammals' right to their natural environment outweighs other considerations.
Bibliography Of An Argumentative Essay About Zoos
Zoos have both positive and negative impacts on animals and society. Positively, zoos educate the public about wildlife and conservation, and many endangered species have been saved from extinction through zoo breeding programs. However, keeping wild animals in captivity can deprive them of freedom and natural behaviors. While zoos aim to care for animals, some question if enclosures can meet all of their complex needs. There is ongoing debate around the ethical issues of animal captivity for entertainment and public education.
