Experiment was carried out by adding 1% and 2% of waste cotton cloth coated with bitumen to improve its strength characteristics.

Jute and hollow conjugated polyester fiber (HCP)-reinforced nonwoven composites were designed by Box and Behnken model approach. This document summarizes a study on the properties of silty soil. The study found that the shrinkage limit of silty soil can be higher than the plastic limit when the silt content reaches 70% due to poorer particle packing. As silt content increases from 30% to 80%, shrinkage limit increases while plastic limit and undrained shear strength decrease due to loss of plasticity. The compressive stress of the soil also decreases with increasing silt content. The study aims to understand how silt content affects the plasticity properties and strength of silty soils.
INVESTIGATION ON WEAR RESISTANCE BEHAVIOR OF SIC FILLED HYBRID COMPOSITES
Polymer composites and hybrid polymer composites are replacing many of the monolithic materials and alloys due to their higher strength to weight ratio, while apparently exhibiting excellent strength to corrosion and wear resistance. Investigation was carried out through experimental study on Silicon Carbide (SiC) filled, different combination of hybrid composites to determine the ‘two body’ abrasive wear behavior. Freshly fabricated Glass-Jute-Epoxy, Glass –Sisal-Epoxy and Glass-Rubber-Epoxy composites with different weight percentage of silicon carbide filler was subjected to two body abrasive wear test under normal room temperature in dry condition on pin-on-disc equipment using 300 grit SiC sand papers. Abrasive paper was stuck on to the rotating disc and test specimen was attached to the flat surface of the pin. The effect of filler content on the (0%,5%,10% ) was studied for 20N load for different sliding distance (25m,50m,75m,100m). The results reveal that the material with increases in filler content is prone to higher wear resistance. The polymer composites with 10% SiC showed least wear loss in all the combination under consideration and lowest wear loss was achieved in glass rubber epoxy and10% SiC combination.

A state of extreme landfill areas redevelopment program in many parts of the country has cause to bring the use of recycled aggregate. The low quality of recycled aggregate has limited its use to low grade applications such as roadwork sub base and pavements, while its adoption for higher grade concrete is rare because of the lower compressive strength and higher variability in mechanical performance of recycled aggregate. A new concrete mixing method, that is the two stage mixing approach TSMA , was publically recommends to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete RAC by splitting the mixing process into two stages. The variation of compressive strength by experimental analysis involving the new mixing method with the two stage mixing approach by proportioning ingredients with the percentage of recycled coarse aggregates RCA , fly ash and rice husk ash. Based on experiments and results, improves strength to RAC were achieved with TSMA. This can be regarded as to the porous nature of RA and the mixing process that fills up some of its pores and cracks, resulting in a denser aggregate and concrete. strength of bituminous mix. Indirect tensile strength has
been used as the measure of the strength of bituminous mix,
subsequently, the statistical relationship has been proposed
between the overall angles of repose of the aggregates used
in the bituminous mix to its indirect tensile strength.

IRJET- Structural Investigation of High Strength Concrete by Partial Re
This document discusses a study on the structural behavior of high-strength concrete with partial replacement of sand and aggregate with crumb rubber. Various tests were conducted on fresh and hardened concrete mixes containing 0%, 8%, 16%, and 24% crumb rubber replacements by volume to analyze properties like compressive strength, density, water absorption, and abrasion resistance. The results showed that compressive strength and density increased initially with rubber replacement, while water absorption decreased initially and then increased with higher replacement levels. Abrasion resistance also increased with higher rubber replacement. It is recommended to use crumb rubber concrete for non-structural applications like floors, partitions, and blocks to help address the waste tire issue.

Establishing relationship between cbr with different soil properties
Abstract
In the flexible pavements sub-grade is considered to be an ideal layer to resist wheel load and its CBR value is considered as the strength measuring parameter. Conducting CBR test is an expensive and time consuming test, moreover it is very difficult to mould the sample at a desired in-situ density in the laboratory. Further, if the available soil is of poor quality, suitable additives are mixed with soil and resulting strength of soil is assessed by CBR value which is cumbersome. To overcome these problems, the other methods such as regression based models (simple & multiple) are used in this study. The soil properties like liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity index, optimum moisture content, maximum dry density and percentage fineness of the soil (passing 75micron sieve) are determined for the soil collected from different areas of Bagalkot district and the models are developed for correlating soaked CBR value.

This document presents the results of a laboratory study on stabilizing black cotton soil (BC), an expansive soil, using fly ash columns with and without encasement in non-woven geotextile. Preliminary and CBR tests were conducted on 8 different BC soil sample configurations: 1) untreated BC soil, 2) BC soil with fly ash columns, 3) BC soil with fly ash columns and lime, and 4) BC soil with fly ash columns, lime and geotextile encasement. The CBR tests showed that load bearing capacity increased the most in soaked conditions when lime and geotextile were added due to reduced pore pressure and increased drainage. This document presents a study that evaluated the correlation between soaked California Bearing Ratio (CBRSoaked) and Undrained Shear Strength (Su) for artificially prepared soils with varying Plasticity Index. Soil samples were prepared with varying percentages of red powder, clay powder, and sand powder to change the Plasticity Index. Testing included Atterberg limits, compaction, CBR testing, and direct shear testing. The results showed a polynomial correlation between CBRSoaked and Su. The correlation was validated with a variation of less than 1.5% for test samples. The study concluded a non-linear correlation was obtained between CBRSoaked and Su for soils with varying Plasticity Index.

Jute and hollow conjugated polyester fiber (HCP)-reinforced nonwoven composites were designed by Box and Behnken model approach. Its thermal properties such as thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, thermal transmittance, and thermal diffusivity were evaluated. From the test results of response surface method (RSM), the weight of composite material maintained as 3280 g/m2 with the proportion of jute/HCP fiber in the ratio of 50/50%, 60/40%, and 70/30% played a significant role in insulation and mechanical properties. Various needling density maintained on the
composite material such as 300, 150, and 75 punches/cm2 contributes to the role of significant impacts on the research process. The optimum of 150 needling density with the proportion of 50/50 Jute and HCP fiber was
selected to produce four kinds of composite structures. Its thermal,
sound, electrical insulation values and limiting oxygen values were analyzed and suggested for building environments
IRJET - Facts and Relevance of Silty Soil
This document summarizes a study on the properties of silty soil. The study found that the shrinkage limit of silty soil can be higher than the plastic limit when the silt content reaches 70% due to poorer particle packing. As silt content increases from 30% to 80%, shrinkage limit increases while plastic limit and undrained shear strength decrease due to loss of plasticity. The compressive stress of the soil also decreases with increasing silt content. The study aims to understand how silt content affects the plasticity properties and strength of silty soils.
INVESTIGATION ON WEAR RESISTANCE BEHAVIOR OF SIC FILLED HYBRID COMPOSITES
Polymer composites and hybrid polymer composites are replacing many of the monolithic materials and alloys due to their higher strength to weight ratio, while apparently exhibiting excellent strength to corrosion and wear resistance. Investigation was carried out through experimental study on Silicon Carbide (SiC) filled, different combination of hybrid composites to determine the ‘two body’ abrasive wear behavior. Freshly fabricated Glass-Jute-Epoxy, Glass –Sisal-Epoxy and Glass-Rubber-Epoxy composites with different weight percentage of silicon carbide filler was subjected to two body abrasive wear test under normal room temperature in dry condition on pin-on-disc equipment using 300 grit SiC sand papers. Abrasive paper was stuck on to the rotating disc and test specimen was attached to the flat surface of the pin. The effect of filler content on the (0%,5%,10% ) was studied for 20N load for different sliding distance (25m,50m,75m,100m). The results reveal that the material with increases in filler content is prone to higher wear resistance. The polymer composites with 10% SiC showed least wear loss in all the combination under consideration and lowest wear loss was achieved in glass rubber epoxy and10% SiC combination.

A state of extreme landfill areas redevelopment program in many parts of the country has cause to bring the use of recycled aggregate. The low quality of recycled aggregate has limited its use to low grade applications such as roadwork sub base and pavements, while its adoption for higher grade concrete is rare because of the lower compressive strength and higher variability in mechanical performance of recycled aggregate. A new concrete mixing method, that is the two stage mixing approach TSMA , was publically recommends to improve the quality of recycled aggregate concrete RAC by splitting the mixing process into two stages. The variation of compressive strength by experimental analysis involving the new mixing method with the two stage mixing approach by proportioning ingredients with the percentage of recycled coarse aggregates RCA , fly ash and rice husk ash. Based on experiments and results, improves strength to RAC were achieved with TSMA. This can be regarded as to the porous nature of RA and the mixing process that fills up some of its pores and cracks, resulting in a denser aggregate and concrete. between the overall angles of repose of the aggregates used
in the bituminous mix to its indirect tensile strength.

IRJET- Structural Investigation of High Strength Concrete by Partial Re
This document discusses a study on the structural behavior of high-strength concrete with partial replacement of sand and aggregate with crumb rubber. Various tests were conducted on fresh and hardened concrete mixes containing 0%, 8%, 16%, and 24% crumb rubber replacements by volume to analyze properties like compressive strength, density, water absorption, and abrasion resistance. The results showed that compressive strength and density increased initially with rubber replacement, while water absorption decreased initially and then increased with higher replacement levels. Abrasion resistance also increased with higher rubber replacement. It is recommended to use crumb rubber concrete for non-structural applications like floors, partitions, and blocks to help address the waste tire issue.

Establishing relationship between cbr with different soil properties
Abstract
In the flexible pavements sub-grade is considered to be an ideal layer to resist wheel load and its CBR value is considered as the strength measuring parameter. Conducting CBR test is an expensive and time consuming test, moreover it is very difficult to mould the sample at a desired in-situ density in the laboratory. Further, if the available soil is of poor quality, suitable additives are mixed with soil and resulting strength of soil is assessed by CBR value which is cumbersome. To overcome these problems, the other methods such as regression based models (simple & multiple) are used in this study. The soil properties like liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity index, optimum moisture content, maximum dry density and percentage fineness of the soil (passing 75micron sieve) are determined for the soil collected from different areas of Bagalkot district and the models are developed for correlating soaked CBR value.

Preliminary and CBR tests were conducted on 8 different BC soil sample configurations: 1) untreated BC soil, 2) BC soil with fly ash columns, 3) BC soil with fly ash columns and lime, and 4) BC soil with fly ash columns, lime and geotextile encasement. The CBR tests showed that load bearing capacity increased the most in soaked conditions when lime and geotextile were added due to reduced pore pressure and increased drainage. This document presents a study that evaluated the correlation between soaked California Bearing Ratio (CBRSoaked) and Undrained Shear Strength (Su) for artificially prepared soils with varying Plasticity Index. Soil samples were prepared with varying percentages of red powder, clay powder, and sand powder to change the Plasticity Index. Testing included Atterberg limits, compaction, CBR testing, and direct shear testing. The results showed a polynomial correlation between CBRSoaked and Su. The correlation was validated with a variation of less than 1.5% for test samples. The study concluded a non-linear correlation was obtained between CBRSoaked and Su for soils with varying Plasticity Index.

Abstract Soft subgrade soil poses challenge for construction of pavements. These soft subgrade soils have a tendency to absorb high moisture content and exhibit high compressibility. Under loads. Because of which the life of pavement constructed over these is highly suffered. Among notable properties plasticity index is a reliable property as listed in literature for identifying these soft soil and nature of compressibility. Soil stabilization is one of the techniques listed in literature for improving these soft soils. Often the stabilization suffers due to high cost particularly improving deep deposits of soft soil and time consuming. . Providing stiff layer with gravelly soil can solve the problem to majority extent. These gravelly layer of soils bear the load and distribute through arch action, to, minimize the stresses to soft soil. .However the efficiency of these gravely layer depends on their relative thickness and prevention from mixing with soft subsoil. This paper discusses the efficacy of overlying aggregate to improve CBR values of soft subgrade in the presence of separator geotextile. The thickness of aggregate is varied and expressed by Hr (a fraction to soil thickness given as Ha/Hs.). Laboratory CBR tests are conducted on four subgrade types with varying in plasticity & fines content overlying with gravelly aggregate with Hr varied from 0, to 0.5 in increments of 0.1.It is observed that PI, Hr and fines content effect CBR. The influence is more pronounced with Plasticity and percent fines. Also the increase (%) is marginal for samples with high Hr. Fundamental properties of soils like specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit and optimum moisture content were determined on unreinforced soils; California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test and Unconfined Compression (UCC) Strength test were also conducted on unreinforced and reinforced soils. The optimum quantity of jute geo textile was arrived based on the results from CBR test, other parameters such as modulus of elasticity and failure stress were ascertained from the results of UCC test. Using the optimum geo textile content, the thickness of pavement required over the three types of sub grade soils with and without reinforcement was determined based on the guidelines specified in IRC 37-2001. A comparative analysis was carried out to identify the economy in the material due to the effect of reinforcing the soils with jute geo textile. Subsequently cost benefit analysis of reinforced and unreinforced pavement was also done to ascertain the economic viability of fibre material. From the result analysis it was observed there is a significant material save of about 25% per every km of pavement
IRJET- Study on Concrete Replaced with Crushed Concrete Fine Aggregate
This document studies the use of crushed concrete as a replacement for natural fine aggregate in concrete. Four mixes of M20 grade concrete were tested with fine aggregate replaced at 0% (control), 25%, 50%, and 100% with crushed concrete aggregate. Specimens were tested for compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength at ages of 1, 7, and 28 days. Test results found that early compressive strength was lower for mixes with replacement aggregate but 7-day and 28-day strengths increased compared to the control in some mixes. Mixes with 50% and 100% replacement showed increases in split tensile strength at 7 days. Flexural strength increased at 1 and 7 days for mixes with replacement aggregate
Benefit analysis of subgrade and surface improvements in flexible pavements 2
This document discusses analyzing the benefits of improving subgrade soil and surface layers in flexible pavements. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine optimal additives for subgrade stabilization and crumb rubber content for surface modification. A software program called FPAVE was used to evaluate pavement thickness for different combinations of conventional, stabilized, and modified layers. Analysis found that combinations with both subgrade and surface improvements had lower strains and required less thickness, resulting in a 50% cost benefit compared to conventional flexible pavements.
Soil Stabilization Using Waste Materials in Sri Lanka
The uses of automobiles are increasing day by day because of that the waste of tyres increases in Sri Lanka. Safer disposal of rubber tyre waste has become a challenging job in Sri Lanka. As a result of the improper way of disposal, there is a great damage to eco system like air pollution and aesthetic pollution. So that use of their basic properties in engineering applications are become prominent. This investigation has focused on the CBR of soil reinforced with randomly mixed shredded rubber tyre chips and the results will be compared with unreinforced samples. The optimal percentage value of shredded rubber tyre content in soil will be determined using the Standard proctor compaction test and CBR test. This document discusses a study on the influence of adding waste polypropylene fibers on the resilient modulus of clay soil. Several tests were conducted including specific gravity, liquid limit, grain size distribution, standard proctor, and cyclic CBR tests on soil samples with different percentages of polypropylene fibers added by weight. The results showed that the resilient modulus increased with the addition of fibers up to an optimum of 0.4% fibers by weight, above which the resilient modulus started to decrease. It was concluded that reinforcing clay soil with polypropylene fibers has a positive influence on improving the resilient modulus of the soil.

This document summarizes a study on the use of polyethylene fiber and waste tire fibers as reinforcement in concrete for pavement applications. Tests were conducted on concrete mixes with 1.5% polyethylene and tire fibers by volume. Results showed an increase in 28-day compressive strength of up to 18% and increases in flexural strength and shear strength of up to 39% and 32% respectively. There were also reductions in deflection of up to 22% and 36% for flexural and shear tests. The study concluded that polyethylene and tire fibers can be efficiently used as reinforcement in concrete and provide gains in strength properties while enabling waste materials to be reused.

Application of Geosynthetics in Pavement Design

Huge quantity of Cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash are generating as a waste product in agriculture sector in India and many other developing countries every year. In lack of proper wakefulness and technology expansion, great portion of these by products remain unutilized causing severe disposal and environmental troubles. The main goal of this thesis is to examine the performance of M40 grade concrete with a mix ratio as per M40 grade and a water cement ratio of 0.425 Additionally, it aims to determine the compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of concrete cement when cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash are used in place of cement. With various percentage like 10, 20, and 30 etc. of cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash well as with combined replacement of Cotton stalk ash and rice husk ash. and results that the workability of concrete was found to be reduced on enhance the Cotton stalk ash CSA , rice husk ash RHA by difference percentages. The Maximum increase in 53.67 N mm2 of compressive strength is obtained after the period 28 days with cotton stalk ash substituting 10 of the cement CSA . The maximum increase in flexural strength over the period of 28 days was 5.98 N mm2, with cotton stalk ash substituting 10 of the cement CSA . When 10 of the cement is replaced with cotton stalk ash, the significant increase in split tensile strength for 28 days is 4.23N mm2 CSA By substituting cotton stalk ash, rice husk ash for 20, 10 of the cement, the compressive strength as per this investigations for 28 days is observed 49.47 N mm2 CSA, RHA is not achieved highest value but achieve the target mean strength. The greatest results are achieved when cotton stalk ash are utilized, although at different percentages. Application of Jute Fiber in the Improvement of Subgrade Characteristics
For the development of any country, a satisfactory
mode of transport and communication is indispensable. This
can be achieved through a transportation system, which is
economically viable. Economy in road network can be achieved
through economical pavement design. The entire load coming
over the infrastructure is ultimately transmitted to the
subgrade. Load carrying and dispersion capacity of subgrade
soil play a vital role in civil engineering. In case of highway a
weak subgrade results in greater thickness of pavement layer,
so that the stresses on the subgrade are inconsonant with
their load carrying capacity. Empirically flexible pavements
are designed on the basis of CBR value of the subgrade and
traffic on the proposed road. As per IRC recommendation
increase in CBR value from 2.0% to 5.0% reduces the thickness
requirement by 35% for 1.0 msa of traffic. Therefore
improvement in subgrade has always been an area of concern
to highway and geotechnical engineers. In the present study
a series of Proctor Compaction tests and California Bearing
Ratio tests have been carried out on soil mixed with jute fiber.
Jute fibers of different diameters (2 to 8mm) and lengths (0.5
to 2.0 mm) are mixed in the subgrade in different percentage
(0.2 to 1.0%) to find out the optimal quantity. Proctor and
CBR test results are presented in the paper.

IRJET- Role of Compaction Energy on Dry density and CBR
This document presents the results of a study that investigated the effect of compaction energy on the dry density, optimum moisture content, and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of soil collected from Thiruporur district in Chennai, India. Index tests were conducted to classify the soil as silty clay. Modified proctor compaction tests were performed at 5 different compaction energies and showed that maximum dry density increased and optimum moisture content decreased with increasing compaction energy. CBR tests, both soaked and unsoaked, showed that CBR values increased with decreasing optimum moisture content.
